Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is one of the biggest movie stars in the world right now, but some of you may not remember that the former wrestler got his start in Hollywood by appearing in a supporting role in The Mummy Returns. The studio enjoyed his performance so much that they decided to create a spin-off called The Scorpion King (fun fact: they're somehow still making Scorpion King movies), and now Johnson has sat down for his YouTube channel to "react" to his first leading man role.

Man Attempts To Make McDonald's Szechuan Sauce For RICK AND MORTY

I've had to write Szechuan more times this week than I can count. It's all thanks to Rick And Morty, who with their Season 3 sneak preview mentioned the sauce that was once part of the McDonald's lineup during a promotion for Mulan. While the fast food giant has indicated they're interested in bringing the sauce back, it's not quick enough for the world of the internet and we need stuff now! Luckily, guys like Andrew Rea were quick to make a video so that you can make the sauce at home.

Full disclosure, he doesn't know what the sauce tastes like...but neither do I so how do we know what we're missing?

Man At Arms Constructs Ned Stark's Blade "Ice" From GAME OF THRONES

We're still months away from the Season 7 premiere of Game Of Thrones, but that doesn't mean you should be any less excited! I'm still riding the hype train, and videos like this only help me shovel more coal in the engine! Man At Arms constructs Ned Stark's blade "Ice" straight from the series, and it looks pretty damn good! It's not Valyrian steel, mind you, but he etches enough in it to give you impression this bad boy can cut through anything! Check out how it was made, and how effective it is against a zombie head below.

ARCHER Cast Makes Fake Trading Cards in Rapid-Fire Q&A Session

The gloriously ridiculous spy series Archer moves from FX over to its sister network FXX and debuts a brand new season tomorrow, and I can't wait to hang out with its over-the-top cast of characters again. Wired individually spoke with the cast members, and in a rapid-fire Q&A session, gathered information from them to fill out the stats you might see on a trading card. Their answers are pretty funny, but largely this is just an excuse to write about the return of Archer and a rare opportunity to actually see these voice actors talking about their characters instead of just hearing their voices come out of their animated counterparts.

I'm excited to announce that we have a new ongoing project series that we're launching called Tyrants of Cosplay in association with Drewbles. You can watch out announcement video above.

We are huge fans of cosplay here at GeekTyrant and we've always supported the cosplay community. I've been wanting to do our own cosplay highlight series that is different from what everyone else is doing. There are a ton of people that make extremely cool cosplay music videos that we enjoy posting on the site all the time.

Each of the videos in our series will focus on individual cosplayers. We'll conduct brief interview's with each of the talented and creative individuals that we come across at the conventions that we attend and, of course, we'll also include some shots showing off their awesome costumes.

Tyrants of Cosplay will launch tomorrow on April 5th and we will be posting one video on the site a week highlighting a different cosplayer. The first collection of videos, which is basically our first season, will include cosplay from WonderCon 2017.

This is just our little way of showing support to the cosplay community. Make sure to subscribe to our YouTube page here.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to Adapt Robert Kirkman's Comic INVINCIBLE as a Film

Invincible is a great comic. It is not a huge DC or Marvel powerhouse but it's a cult classic with real heart. It tells the tale of a teenager who's father is the most powerful superhero in the world and how he eventually also comes across realizing his power. What's fun about this comic, is that while still having fun and being funny, it also shows a slightly more realistic view of superhero life. Not in an overly dramatic way, but rather in a sarcastic satirical way.

So to hear that it is becoming a film is very exciting for me, and to hear that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will be writing, directing, and producing the film is... well... it's good! I think if anyone were to make this movie, it would need to be people who understand comedy and conventions of satire. Let's try to forget about the Green Hornet film, which Rogen and Goldberg wrote. I think they've learned a lot since then and they've been doing a great job with Preacher.

The film is set up at Universal Studios who has proven they are pretty good at making comic book adaptions. Look no further than Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Then again, that had an all-star cast and one of my personal favorite directors of all time, Edgar Wright.

Robert Kirkman, who also is behind The Walking Dead comic, will also be involved in the production, so there is plenty of good involved. As more news on casting and production is revealed, we will report on it here.

Michael Keaton in Talks to Reunite with Tim Burton For DUMBO

It looks like Tom Hanks has passed on the villainous role in Tim Burton's live-action adaptation of Disney's Dumbo because now Michael Keaton is in negotiations to take on the role! If he's cast, this would be the first film project that Burton and Keaton will have worked on together since 1992's Batman Returns. I'm excited that these guys will be working together again!

Colin Ferrell is also currently in talks to join the film, which also stars Eva Green and Danny DeVito. This film is gathering together quite the impressive cast.

DeVito will take on the role of a character named Medici, a man who "runs a smaller circus that gets acquired by the evil big top circus villain Vandemere." It seems like Keaton will be taking on the role of Vandemere.

Green will play one of the three main adult roles in the story. She will be part of a family "who develops a friendship with the lovable elephant after seeing him at the circus." The name of her character is Colette, and she's described as "a French trapeze artist who works for Vandemere."

The story for the film has been described as “a unique family story that parallels Dumbo’s journey." I'm looking forward to seeing what Burton's vision of this classic story will be and I'm excited to see how his visual style will be incorporated into it.

Ehren Kruger (Tron: Legacy) wrote the script for Dumbo and I'm curious to see how it all comes together.

Marvel's NEW WARRIORS Series With SQUIRREL GIRL Gets a Series Order at Freeform

You know the superhero movement is reaching overload when Freeform gets involved. We're getting news from Uproxx this morning that the network has signed off on a series based on Marvel's New Warriors that will put Squirrel Girl at the head of the team. No other characters have been announced for the series but lineups have included some lesser known heroes like Nova and the Scarlet Spider. Here's a description that was previously released:

Described as the junior version of The Avengers, the New Warriors are a superhero squad made up of teenagers, one of whom would include Doreen Green (aka Squirrel Girl). For the record, SG can do more than just communicate with the world’s vast squirrel population; she also possesses super-speed and strength.

The network has ordered ten 30-minute episodes which is slated to debut 2018 and here are some additional details from the press release:

Marvel’s New Warriors is about six young people with powers living and working together. With powers and abilities on the opposite end of the spectrum of The Avengers, the New Warriors want to make a difference in the world… Even if the world isn’t ready. Not quite super, not yet heroes, Marvel’s New Warriors is about that time in your life when you first enter adulthood and feel like you can do everything and nothing at once — except in this world, bad guys can be as terrifying as bad dates.
The series will feature fan-favorite Squirrel Girl (Doreen Green) as a totally empowering fan girl—tough, optimistic and a natural leader. Doreen is confident and has the powers of a squirrel… She’s acrobatic, can fight and talk to other squirrels. Her most important trait is that she has faith in people and teaches them to believe in themselves. Additional cast to be announced.

When talking about the series, Marvel’s Head of Television and Executive Producer Jeph Loeb said:

“’Marvel’s New Warriors’ have always been fan favorites and now particularly with the addition of Squirrel Girl, they are Marvel Television favorites as well. After the amazing experience we’ve had with Freeform on ‘Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger’ we can’t think of a better place for our young heroes.”

Freeform is also the network behind Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger which is currently in development.

I'm eager to find out more about this. How do you feel about this series?

First Footage Revealed For DC's New Animated Film BATMAN AND HARLEY QUINN in Featurette

It was recently announced that Kevin Conroy (Batman: The Animated Series) and Melissa Rauch (Big Bang Theory) would be voicing the characters Batman and Harley Quinn in DC Animation's upcoming new film Batman and Harley Quinn. They will be joined by Loren Lester (Batman the Animated Series), who is taking on the role of Nightwing and Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds) as Poison Ivy.

Now we have a new 9-minute  featurette for the film that gives us a behind-the-scenes look featuring interviews with the cast and crew, including Bruce Timm. It also offers us our first look at some of the footage from the movie and it looks like it could be a fun movie.

It gives us a few bit of information regarding the story. The film tells an original story featuring the reluctant team-up of Batman, Nightwing and Harley Quinn as they try and stop a global catastrophe caused by Poison Ivy and Jason Woodrue, a.k.a. the Plant-Master. When talking about the film with Empire, Lester says it captures the essence of Batman: The Animated Series:

"So many fans have asked when there will be another Batman: The Animated Series, and this film really captures that sensibility and essence that people loved about the original series. That makes perfect sense when you know Bruce Timm was at the helm of both. The difference is we're not restricted by the networks for this film, so we can take the story and characters in more mature areas, and explore more about them as three-dimensional human beings with human feelings and human desires that we often couldn’t explore in the series."

The animated DC films have kinda been disappointing lately, so I really hope that Batman and Harley Quinn gives us a great animated film worth watching.

New Trailer for the Ridley Scott Produced UFO Thriller PHOENIX FORGOTTEN

A new trailer has surfaced for the upcoming UFO "found footage" thriller Phoenix Forgotten. The film is being produced by Ridley Scott, which is interesting because I never thought I'd see him get involved with a "found footage" film like this. There's obviously something he saw in the movie that attracted him to it, though.

The film is based on the true-life events that occurred on March 13th, 1997 when several mysterious lights appeared over Phoenix, Arizona. The event is known as "The Phoenix Lights," and it's one of the most famous and massive UFO sightings in history.

The movie basically looks like The Blair Witch Project but with students on the hunt for UFOs instead of an evil witch.

Phoenix Forgotten tells the story of three teens who went into the desert shortly after the incident, hoping to document the strange events occurring in their town. They disappeared that night, and were never seen again.  Now, on the twentieth anniversary of their disappearance, unseen footage has finally been discovered, chronicling the final hours of their fateful expedition. For the first time ever, the truth will be revealed...

Phoenix Forgotten was directed by Justin Barber and stars Florence Hartigan, Chelsea Lopez, Justin Matthews, and Luke Spencer RobertsPhoenix Forgotten arrives in theaters on April 21, 2017.

The Photograph at The End of Stanley Kubrick's THE SHINING Explained by Screenwriter

We recently shared some interesting information regarding Stanely Kubrick's The Shining in which we learned some of the original alternate endings that were explored by the director and his creative team.

The other versions of the ending included Wendy killing Jack, Jack killing Danny, and even one in which Dick Hallorann was one of the real villains of the story. One thing it was all leading up to, though, was the photograph on the wall in which we see Jack Nicholson's Jack Torrance hosting a New Years Eve party.

Screenwriter Diane Johnson said that the "photograph was always in the ending." So what is the explanation of the photo and why Jack is in it? She explains:

"There is an explanation for the photo, though it’s a bit strange and paradoxical because it’s both real and unreal — the idea that Jack was always at the hotel in some earlier incarnation. Jack had somehow been the creature of the hotel through reincarnation. At the same time, we’re meant to experience it “in the now.” There’s no way of resolving that, it’s meant to be magical."

There are a lot of things in the film that don't really make sense and they raise questions, but all of those unexplainable things are answered in the excuse that the film tells a supernatural story with magical elements. Screenwriter Jan Harlan tells EW:

"The tennis ball is the same thing as the photograph — it’s unexplainable. It makes Ullman now another ghost element. Was he the ghost from the very beginning? The film is complex enough because nothing is explained. That non-explaining is what was bad for the film initially. It was not a huge success. Now everybody thinks it’s the best horror film ever or whatever. But when it came out the audience expected a horror film with a resolution, with an explanation. Who is the baddie? What was going on? And they were disappointed — many of them, anyway. The fact they were left puzzled was exactly what Stanley Kubrick wanted... But Stanley was actually very sad that he misread the audience, that he trusted the audience to live with puzzles and no answers, and that they didn’t like it."

A lot of these questions and concerns were brought up by crew members during the production of the film, and when they would ask Kubrick to explain he would basically just tell them it's "a ghost film." Harlan explains:

"Very often crew members asked him, 'Can you explain that to me?' And he said, 'I never explain anything, I don’t understand it myself. It’s a ghost film!' You can’t imagine how much fuss was made over the big golden ballroom and the big lobby and huge windows that could never have fit into the hotel [based on the] establishing shot from outside. Any child can see that. And Stanley’s explanation was, 'It’s a ghost film! Forget it!' … It’s not a movie with a serious message. I know many people think its impossible that Kubrick did a film which didn’t have serious messages and an enormous amount of [theories have been] invented. While he was alive all that was relatively quiet. After his death, these [theories] came out which were funny, and partly insulting. The most insulting one is the idea that The Shining is a film about the Holocaust. That’s outrageous. That’s an insult to Kubrick, that he would deal with the most serious crime in human history in such a light way, and also an insult to victims of the Holocaust. The other ideas are much more harmless, where continuity mistakes are attributed with deep meaning."

Kubrick obviously had a method of madness when he was making The Shining and it worked. The Shining is considered one of the greatest psychological horror films ever made. I love the supernatural aspect of the film along with all the puzzles that don't have answers. That's what makes the film so fun to watch!

Jeffrey Dean Morgan Joins Dwayne Johnson in RAMPAGE

The Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan is the latest cast member to jump on board Dwayne Johnson's feature film adaptation of the classic video game Rampage

Morgan is said to play a character named Agent Russell, "who works for a covert government division called OGA and rolls with serious swagger and attitude." This seems like a character he can have fun with. Morgan is oozing with swagger and attitude. He'll obviously be leaving his barbed wire-encrusted-baseball bat behind for this movie, but I'd seriously love to see him use it to beat the hell out of the giant monsters that the movie will center around!

Brad Peyton (San Andreas) is directing the film, which will center on three people who are transformed into giant monsters that include a gorilla, a wolf, and a Godzilla-like lizard. Together they will wreak havoc on North American cities and landmarks. Only one man can stop them, and that man is an animal-loving hero played by Johnson.

Dean Morgan joins the previously announced cast that includes Malin Akerman, Naomie Harris, Joe Manganiello, Marley Shelton, Jake Lacy, P.J. Byrne, Jack Quaid, Matt Gerald, and Breanne Hill.

Netflix Explains Its New Thumbs Up Rating System In Short Video

In case you didn't know, Netflix is doing away with the star system on its platform and replacing it with a more simple "thumbs up" system. This new system simplifies things between what you like and don't like when it comes to the shows you watch. While I have yet to see it in action, I'm all for the change. The star rating system never really helped me much in curating my content even though I would constantly rate a lot of titles. Hopefully this new system does more to bring the shows I care about to my television. Check out a brief video on the service below.
