Stephen King Shares the First Movie Poster For THE DARK TOWER1

Stephen King has released the first poster for the upcoming feature film adaptation of The Dark Tower. I've been waiting for this film for years and I'm happy and excited that we are finally getting a movie! I hope it ends up being great and I hope that the filmmakers involved get to realize their full vision for the film adaptation, which will include a total of three films and two TV series. I imagine it all hinges on if this first film does well or not.

The poster came with the following caption from King, "Pilgrim, there are other worlds than these. Come with us on the adventure." I love the poster design as it features the image of the tower in the upside down New York City, which isn't really New York City. If you're familiar with the books, you know this is Lud, which is a post-apocalyptic city in Mid-World that is similar to NYC. You have Roland and Jake at the bottom of the poster and you've got the Man in Black walking upside down on the top.

We've already seen a few photos from the film featuring Idris Elba as The Gunslinger, Roland Deschain, and Tom Taylor as Jake Chambers and Matthew McConaughey as The Man in Black. There was even a trailer that leaked online but was never officially released. I loved what I saw in the trailer, and I imagine we will see an officially released trailer soon.

The Dark Tower series tells the story of Roland Deschain, Mid-World’s last gunslinger, who is traveling southeast across Mid-World’s post-apocalyptic landscape, searching for the powerful but elusive magical edifice known as The Dark Tower. Located in the fey region of End-World, amid a sea of singing red roses, the Dark Tower is the nexus point of the time-space continuum.  It is the heart of all worlds, but it is also under threat. Someone, or something, is using the evil technology of the Great Old Ones to destroy it.

The film is being directed by Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair) and has a supporting cast that includes Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road) as Tirana; Fran Kranz (The Cabin in the Woods) as Pimli, the right hand man of Randall Flagg; Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen); Katheryn Winnick (Vikings) and Claudia Kiim (Avengers: Age of Ultron).

The Dark Tower hits theaters this summer on July 28. To catch up on all of our Dark Tower news, click here.

Joe Manganiello Isn't Sure Anymore If He's Playing Deathstroke in THE BATMAN

Up until Matt Reeves was brought in to direct The Batman, Joe Manganiello was very confident that he was going to play Deathstroke in the film. Now that confidence is waning, and he's not really sure if he's in the movie anymore.

Manganiello was recently a guest on Pittsburgh Today Live. While he was on the show they brought up Deathstroke being one of his next roles, and in his reply, he shrugged his shoulders and said, "Maybe... we'll see."

Last week, there was a report that Reeves would be writing The Batman script from scratch, so it makes sense that Manganiello isn't sure if he's still in the movie or not. I was kinda looking forward to seeing Manganiello play Deathstroke, but it'll be interesting to see how this whole film production plays out and what it will end up being.

The New MATRIX Movie Is Rumored to Focus on a Young Morpheus

$

As you all know by now, Warner Bros. is planning to enter The Matrix again. It was first reported as being a reboot, and then writer Zak Penn jumped in and clarified that it wouldn’t be a reboot, and likened what they were planning to the Animatrix anthology.

Judging from what Penn said, this next Matrix film will be set in the already existing universe that the Wachowskis built with the first trilogy. This next film could tell any kind of story in this universe, with any number of characters, at any point in time.

A new rumor has surfaced from Birth Movies Death that offers some possible information on what the movie will be about. According to them, this could very well be a film that centers around a young Morpheus. They say that Warner Bros. has been interested in this concept for a long time.

The site claims that this news comes from two independent sources and those sources say that the studio has “established a writer's room (a sure-fire sign that WB is gunning for multiple films/franchises), and our further understanding is that this Morpheus idea is one of several being kicked around.”

Morpheus was the original mentor and teacher of Neo in The Matrix, and he was awesomely played by Lawrence Fishburne. Michael B. Jordan would obviously be the one to take on the role of the young Morpheus since he’s the only actor who has been named to be attached to the project so far.

It would actually be pretty cool to see a Morpheus origin story. I always liked Morpheus and thought he was an interesting character. If this new Matrix movie is really about him as a young man, that’s something I actually wouldn’t mind seeing.

I imagine this film would tell the story of how Morpheus was awoken from his simulated reality of the Matrix, and how he came to learn about his destiny of finding "The One.” What do you all think about the possibility of this new Matrix film focusing on Morpheus?

THE SHALLOWS Director Jaume Collet-Serra Could Direct SUICIDE SQUAD 2 If Mel Gibson Passes

As of right now, the offer is still out to Mel Gibson to direct Suicide Squad 2. He still hasn't made a decision on whether he's going to direct it or not. If Gibson decides not to do it, Warner Bros. reportedly has another director in mind to take it on. That director is Jaume Collet-Serra.

Collet-Serra is the director who brought us films such as Orphan, Unknown, Non-Stop, and most recently, The Shallows, which was my favorite movie of his. The news comes from Jeff Sneider of Mashable on a recent episode of his Meet the Movie Press podcast, and this is what he had to say about the director:

"He delivers hits on a mid-sized budget. He can make a lot out of a little... He's a slick director. He's a diverse hire."

I think that Collet-Serra would make a fun and entertaining film that is comparable to the first movie. But I don't think it will be any better than that. If they want a great Suicide Squad sequel, though, they've got to get Gibson on board.

What do you all think about the possibility of Collect-Serra taking on Suicide Squad 2?

Flash and Supergirl Sing About Being Super Friends in Clip From the Musical Crossover Episode

A new clip has been released from the upcoming musical crossover of The Flash and Supergirl. The episode is called "Duet," and in this clip, we get to see the two heroes literally singing about the power of super friendship. It actually pretty damn charming. Here are some of the lyrics:

"When life is getting me down
And the world seems like it’s gonna end...ship
"There’s at least one power
That we both still have
And that’s the power of...friendship!"

We know that Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist have musical talent because we've seen them display it before on the series Glee. I was a little leery about this whole musical crossover thing when it was first announced, but it actually looks like it might be fun.

Barry (Grant Gustin) and team are surprised when Mon-El (guest star Chris Wood) and Hank Henshaw (guest star David Harewood) arrive on their Earth carrying a comatose Supergirl (guest star Melissa Benoist) who was whammied by the Music Meister (guest star Darren Criss). Unable to wake her up, they turn to Team Flash to save her. However, the Music Meister surprises The Flash and puts him in a similar coma, one that Team Flash can’t cure. Kara and Barry wake up without their powers in an alternate reality where life is like a musical and the only way to escape is by following the script, complete with singing and dancing, to the end.

Check out the clip from "Duet" below and let us know what you think. The episode airs this Tuessday.

Cable's Casting for DEADPOOL 2 Will Be Announced Soon and More Obscure Characters Are Joining the Party

Director David Leitch is getting ready to start shooting Deadpool 2 this summer. There's still a good amount of prep work that needs to be done, but one big thing that needs to happen before production starts is they need to cast Cable! According to writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, that casting is going to be announced soon. When talking to ComicBook.com, they said:

“An announcement will be coming very soon. We’re gonna go into production in the next couple of months and cast announcements will be coming fast and furious.”

Reese went on to talk about their hunt for the right actor to take on the character and explain what they are looking for, saying:

"I think intimidating, scary, a great foil opposite the lunacy. Someone with a great deadpan thing where they can react to someone who's being crazy. Someone who also has a spark of a sense of humor. This person has to be funny because they're buddying up with Ryan [Reynolds] and Deadpool so they just themselves to be funny but in a more serious way, if that makes sense. Physically imposing and able to emote. There's real drama and real stakes. It's a tough one."

Wernick went on to explain that they need to cast somebody "who can carry a franchise moving forward." As you know, Cable has a huge role to play in X-Force as well, and that's another film that Fox is moving forward with. Wernick said:

"They've got X-Force coming up. Cable is head of the X-Force so it's someone who can also command a movie franchise. It's a tall task and we have been on the hunt for a very long time. I think once it's announced, as we get closer, people are gonna go crazy for it."

One of the most recent names we've heard that was up for the role of Cable was Stranger Things actor David Harbour. Fans seem to like the idea of him taking on the role, but we'll just have to wait and see who they ultimate end up casting. Atlanta star Zazie Beetz was just cast in the role of Domino, and it seems like these characters will be joined by some more obscure mutant characters.

In a separate interview with LRM, Reese and Wernick revealed that they have included a new villain and some allies for Deadpool to play with in the sequel. They explained:

“Yeah, Cable and Domino grabbed the headlines on Deadpool. But there are definitely some more obscure characters that people know or that real diehards know that will be in there just by virtue of we need a new villain, and we need some new good guys to complement [Deadpool], but it is growing. Of course, it will be all about the lunacy that is Deadpool himself.”

They don't say who these characters are, but it will be interesting to see what other mutant characters they've brought into this next chapter of Deadpool's movie life.

Who are some other obscure mutant characters that you'd like to see in Deadpool 2?

Marvel's IRON FIST: All the Easter Eggs, References, and Defenders Connections

I'm still in the middle of watching Marvel's Iron Fist series on Netflix, but so far I'm enjoying it! I seem to be enjoying it more than a lot of other people. There are so many people giving this show crap, but I'm not jumping on that bandwagon! I've had a blast watching the show up to this point. I am fan of the characters and I think it's up to par with the rest of the Marvel Netflix series. I know many of you won't agree with me, and that's ok. I'm just enjoying the ride.

If you've already blasted through the series, I've got a video here from Mr. Sunday Movies that points out and breaks down all of the Easter eggs, references, cameos linked to The Defenders, the MCU, The Avengers and a whole lot more.

If you haven't watched Iron Fist yet, I suggest you skip this because it does contain spoilers. If you've been watching Iron Fist, what have you thought about it so far?

Ever since news came out about a new version of The Matrix, the internet has been up in arms. But that's largely because we don't know many of the specifics about the project yet, so it's still more of an idea than a tangible thing. Using footage from other movies (including Lucy, Edge of Tomorrow, and John Wick), editor Alex Luthor has created a fan-made trailer that makes the idea tangible and shows the potential of what a new film in this universe could look like.

We're officially less than one month away from season three of Fargo, Noah Hawley's excellent FX drama inspired by the films of the Coen Brothers. This is one of my absolute favorite shows on television, and the new season's cast — Carrie Coon, Michael Stuhlbarg, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, David Thewlis, and Ewan McGregor — is briefly introduced in this new promo video from the network.

Fargo returns to FX on April 19, and I'm counting down the days.

Ben Affleck's Batman Was The Reason Hans Zimmer Gave Up Scoring Superhero Movies

$

0

About a year ago, after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice came out, composer Hans Zimmer announced that he was retiring from scoring superhero films. In a new interview with Inverse, he clarifies exactly why he made that decision, and it has to do with Ben Affleck's portrayal of Batman.

It just did my brain in to have written Christian Bale as Batman, and suddenly it’s Ben Affleck [in Batman v Superman]. And it felt like I was betraying everything Christian had done. So there’s a certain amount of loyalty attached to those movies, as well.
"I spent months trying to come up with something for Ben. The Batman that I know and the one I learned is the one that Christian did, and Ben plays it differently. And I can’t quite shake that off. For me, the Christian Bale character was always completely unresolved. It was always about that moment at the beginning of the first movie, where he sees his parents getting killed. It was basically arrested development. The Ben character is more middle-aged; he seems to be grumpy as hell, but I didn’t feel the pain that I felt in Christian’s performance. And it was that pain that made me interested."

So it seems like Zimmer had a case of Bat-whiplash and couldn't quite wrap his head around a different version of the character. I mean, after spending twelve years creating the aural landscape of one Batman, having to suddenly deal with a new one seems like a reasonable thing to get hung up about. But there was a hint of good news elsewhere in the interview: it seems as if Zimmer isn't 100% done with superhero movies after all. He's just waiting for the right opportunity:

"Ron Howard actually said something very smart to me. He said, 'Don’t say you will never do a superhero movie again. Wait for somebody to turn up with an amazing script for a superhero movie.' And I suppose that’s what I’m saying: 'Can I please have the amazing script?'"

Hear that, Hollywood? He's waiting...all you have to do is give him the goods.

The POWER RANGERS Film will Feature the First Openly Gay Superhero

$

I'm sure you've noticed by now that Hollywood seems to have a new trend of taking characters from original popular properties and reimagining them as gay characters when they reboot or remake these properties.

This happened with Sulu in Star Trek Beyond, it recently happened with LeFou in Beauty and the Beast, and now it's just been announced that one of the Power Rangers will the upcoming film will be gay. This will be the first big superhero movie to feature an LGBT hero.

I imagine some people might consider the reveal of this character a spoiler, so I'm throwing up a spoiler warning just in case. Then we'll get into the meat of the story.

The big reveal comes in the second act of the Power Rangers movie in which the team learns that the Yellow Ranger Trini (Becky G) "is coming to terms with her sexual orientation, with one character assuming she's having 'boyfriend problems,' and soon realizing that perhaps she's actually having 'girlfriend problems.'"

It's explained that this is a very small moment in the film, but according to director Dean Israelite, it's a pivotal moment for the entire story. In an interview with THR, he explains:

"For Trini, really she's questioning a lot about who she is. She hasn't fully figured it out yet. I think what's great about that scene and what that scene propels for the rest of the movie is, 'That's OK.' The movie is saying, 'That's OK,' and all of the kids have to own who they are and find their tribe."

David Yost, the actor who played the original Blue Ranger, praised the decision:

"They really stepped up to the plate. I think so many people in the LGBTQI community are going to be excited to see that representation.”

For those of you who don't know, Yost is gay and ended up leaving the Power Rangers series in the '90s after facing harassment over his sexual orientation.

I know a lot of people have their own opinions on how they feel about these kinds of changes, but this is definitely a movement in Hollywood that is going to keep pressing forward as a way to share messages about tolerance.

New Photo of Kurt Russell as Ego in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 and More

Another image has surfaced of Kurt Russell in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. He plays Ego the Living Planet, who also happens to be Star-Lord's dad. Director James Gunn previously explained that he worked out a very elaborate story with Ego the Living Planet and that he plays a very important part of the Marvel cosmic universe. He also recently revealed some of the powers of Ego, saying;

"Ego is a living planet who is able to manifest himself in different ways. He’s been alone for millions of years and he’s learned how to control the molecules around him in such a way as to create avatars of themselves, such as Kurt Russell. I think Ego was a very lonely character out there by himself and went off in search of love and perhaps found it in Quill’s mother."

The photo was revealed in a recent issue of Empire Magazine, and you can check out a couple other new photos that were released featuring Yondu, Rocket, Star-Lord, Drax, Nebula, and Gamora. When talking to Empire about the visual effects to bring Ego the Living Planet to life, he proudly revealed:

“We have over a trillion polygons on Ego’s planet. It’s the biggest visual effect of all time. There’s nothing even close to it. Which is cool.”

I can't wait to see that in all its glory!

Robert Downey Jr. Is Set to Play Doctor Dolittle in THE VOYAGE OF DOCTOR DOLITTLE

$

Universal Pictures is developing a new Doctor Dolittle movie and this time the character will be played by Robert Downey Jr. I won't lie, this is some surprising casting. This doesn't seem like the kind of movie Downey would be a part of, but I guess I'm wrong!

The movie is called The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle, and it's based on the classic character created in the 1920s that has the special ability to talk to animals. The character was previously portrayed by Rex Harrington in the late '60s and Eddie Murphy in the late '90s.

It was also announced that the film would be written and directed by Stephen Gaghan, who most recently directed Matthew McConaughey in the film Gold. He also wrote and directed Syriana and won an Academy Award for the screenplay he wrote for Traffic. This doesn't seem like a film he'd be a part of either, but I guess I'm wrong... again.

I've never been a fan of the Doctor Dolittle character, but with these two incredibly talented individuals getting involved, they must feel that they have a great film project to work on. There are no details on the story, but it will obviously center on Doctor Dolittle embarking on a journey, and along the way, he'll be talking to animals and saving them.
