SMALLVILLE Actress Serinda Swan Joins Marvel's INHUMANS as Medusa

0

Marvel’s upcoming series Inhumans has just cast one of its lead actresses. Smallville alum Serinda Swan will take on the role of Medusa, the Queen of the Inhumans and wife of Black Bolt (Anson Mount) in the series. If for some reason you don't recognize her, Swan caught the eyes of fanboys everywhere when she played Zatanna in Smallville.

The character is described as being Black Bolt’s most trusted advisor, "a fiercely resilient warrior who has the ability to move and control her hair the way most people use their hands and fingers."

Marvel TV head and executive producer Jeph Loeb had this to say in a statement to EW:

"Serinda empowers Medusa’s regal glory and still maintains a relatability that synced perfectly with the character. She is nothing short of wonderful."

Showrunner Scott Buck added:

"Serinda Swan brings a regal elegance, as well as a sense of great inner strength and fierce determination, to the role of Medusa. I couldn’t be happier to have her as our Queen of Attilan."

Marvel’s Inhumans follows a race of superhumans with diverse and unique powers and explores the never-before-told epic adventure of Black Bolt and the Royal Family.

Feature director Roel Reine (Death Race 2, The Marine 2, The Lost Tribe, The Scorpion King 3) is set to helm the first two episodes of the series, which will be shot in IMAX and premiere in IMAX theaters on Labor Day weekend. The series will then start its eight-episode run on ABC on Tuesday, September 26th, 2017. All eight episodes are expected to run on the network over consecutive Tuesdays, which means that the finale will air on Tuesday, November 14th, 2017.

Watch: The Sounds of HARRY POTTER Remix Will Give You Something to Groove to Today

Prolific remixer Eclectic Method is back with a brand new video. This one is called "Sounds of Harry Potter," and it combines some of the film franchise's most unconventional noises (locks turning, wands tapping, Dobby hitting his head against a wall, etc) into a song. It's not exactly something you'll be humming later in the day, but it certainly has a propulsive beat and it'll have you nodding your head along with it if you're in the mood to groove a little bit.

Check Out the Creepy First Trailer for German Netflix Series DARK

Netflix has released the first trailer for its German-produced series Dark, and it looks super good. The series has been described as a supernatural family drama, although I'm not so sure you want the kids watching this — check out the description:

A missing child sets four families on a frantic hunt for answers. Their search for a culprit unearths a small town’s sins and secrets.

It's not often that I decide to commit to a series where English is not spoken, but I'm for sure going to be watching this show when it premieres in the winter! Check out the first trailer (via Coming Soon) and let me know if you'll be doing the same.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Contains Disney's First-Ever Gay Character: Josh Gad's LeFou

0
0

It's 2017, and while I wish we were at a point in our society in which a gay character in a Disney movie wasn't a big deal, we're not there yet. So it is an actual news story that Josh Gad's comic sidekick character LeFou from the studio's Beauty and the Beast remake will be the first LGBTQ character in a Disney movie. Director Bill Condon revealed the information in an interview with Attitude:

“LeFou is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston. He’s confused about what he wants. It’s somebody who’s just realising that he has these feelings. And Josh makes something really subtle and delicious out of it. And that’s what has its payoff at the end, which I don’t want to give away. But it is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie.”

Part of the reason for LeFou's sexuality is to pay tribute to the late Howard Ashman, the lyricist of the original film who died from AIDS shortly before the movie hit theaters.

This is a nice step in the right direction for Disney, a notoriously conservative studio that seems to be slowly becoming more diverse and inclusive in its major blockbuster films. Pretty soon this kind of character choice won't make headlines, it'll just be a regular thing that happens all the time — as it should be. But until then, we can give props to the studio for finally doing something that probably should have been done a long time ago.

Beauty and the Beast hits theaters on March 17, 2017.

Seann William Scott is getting absolutely brutalized in this new red band trailer for Goon: Last Of The Enforcers. The sequel to the cult hit Goon is out March 17th, and this sequel looks like it could be better than the first! Take a look at the trailer and continue reading below.

If you've never seen the original movie you definitely should as it will give you a new appreciation for Scott as an actor, and hockey as a sport. Can't wait to see the sequel!

Bill Paxton Is Terrifying in This Intense Trailer for the Thriller MEAN DREAMS

"If you make me chase you, it's gonna get mean."

The first trailer has been released for an upcoming thriller called Mean Dreams, and it stars the late Bill Paxton in what looks to be a crazy role that is kind of terrifying. Paxton is in full on villain mode in this film and he plays the kind of guy you don't want to mess with. It looks like he gives another great performance.

Paxton plays an abusive father and a corrupt cop in the thriller that follows his daughter Casey as she falls in love with a boy named Jonas and is desperate to escape her father and the broken home she grew up in. It doesn't help that Jonas stole a bag full of money from Casey's dad. The teens' journey together gets insanely intense and violent.

MEAN DREAMS follows courageous local farm boy Jonas (Josh Wiggins) and the new girl next door, Casey (Sophie Nélisse), as they embark on a journey that will change their lives forever. As young love blossoms between the two fifteen-year-olds, Jonas also discovers that Casey’s abusive home life has reached a new level of danger, and Jonas takes the lead in their escape by stealing a bag full of drug money from Casey’s corrupt father, local cop Wayne Caraway (Bill Paxton). With the stolen cash as their only means to a better life, Casey flees with Jonas and together, under relentless pursuit from her father, they learn the hard truth of what it will take in order to survive. In the end, Casey and Jonas are forced to make a life-altering choice from which there will be no turning back.

There's no release date set for the film, but it's one that I'll definitely be checking out!

Watch a Beastly Invitation in New BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Clip

0

Because the movie opens in two weeks, we are getting new Beauty and the Beast clips pretty much every day, and I assume this will continue until someone cuts them all together in chronological order and we have 45 minutes of the movie. Not that I am complaining. I am on the record as being all in for this one no matter what. It’s my favorite Disney movie remade with a bunch of uber-attractive people. I am showing up for this movie.

Today’s brief clip sees the Beast attempting to invite Belle to dinner while his household staff gives him tips on how to be more appealing and less, well, beastly, but to no avail. Poor Beast. And poor household staff, who are stuck in their cursed state because their boss was an asshole. Could you imagine if every jerk you ever worked for was placed under a curse that also covered all of their employees and their employees’ children? It seems a little unfair, Madame Disguised Enchantress.

But that is a digression. Watch the clip, and join me in waiting with bated breath for March 17 to roll around so we can finally see Emma Watson as the Beauty, Dan Stevens as the Beast, and Luke Evans, Kevin Kline, Ewan McGregor, Sir Ian McKellan, Emma Thompson, and Josh Gad as their assorted friends/employees/loved ones/nemeses. Catch up on all the news, clips, and trailers here.

Adventure Filled New PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 Trailer Features a Young Jack Sparrow

adventurous-new-pirates-of-the-caribbean-5-trailer-features-a-young-jack-sparrow

We've got an exciting and adventure filled new trailer for you to watch today for Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales! This latest trailer gives us our best look at the film and its story yet. It also starts off with a young, CG version of Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) screwing over Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem). This past between the two characters is what sets this whole story into motion.

It's really weird seeing a young-looking Depp on the big screen again. The action in the film looks great, and it also looks like it comes complete with a solid story. The reason that I'm actually kinda excited for this movie is the fact that it was directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, whose adventure film Kon-Tiki is a favorite film of mine.

Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales sails into theaters May 26.

Trailer for the Ridley Scott Produced UFO Found Footage Thriller PHOENIX FORGOTTEN

Justin Barber

On March 13th, 1997, several mysterious lights appeared over Phoenix, Arizona. The event is known as "The Phoenix Lights," and it's one of the most famous and massive UFO sightings in history. This event serves as the inspiration for the found footage movie Phoenix Forgotten, and today we have a teaser trailer for you to watch.

Ridley Scott is producing the film through his Scott Free production, and it involves the producers behind films such as The Martian, 300, and The Maze Runner, so it's got some pretty heavy Hollywood hitters behind it. It just looks like another found footage type film to me, but who knows, maybe there's something more to it than what we're seeing in this teaser.

Phoenix Forgotten tells the story of three teens who went into the desert shortly after the incident, hoping to document the strange events occurring in their town. They disappeared that night, and were never seen again.  Now, on the twentieth anniversary of their disappearance, unseen footage has finally been discovered, chronicling the final hours of their fateful expedition. For the first time ever, the truth will be revealed...

Phoenix Forgotten was directed by Justin Barber and stars Florence Hartigan, Chelsea Lopez, Justin Matthews, and Luke Spencer Roberts

Marvel's AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and AVENGERS 4 Are Rumored to Have a $1 Billion Budget!

marvels-avengers-infinity-war-and-avengers-4-is-rumored-to-have-a-1-billion-budget2

Marvel and Disney are sparing no expense on their next two Avengers films. According to Atlanta Business Chronicle, Avengers: Infinity War and the untitled fourth Avengers film will have a combined budget of $1 billion! If this news is true, this would make these films the most expensive movies ever made!

The $1 billion number comes from Pinewood Atlanta Studios co-owner Dan Cathy, who says, "We now have on the lot down there now the largest film production ever with a $1 billion budget." He's clearly referencing the upcoming Avengers films, which are set to be released in 2018 and 2019.

To put this into perspective, The highest budget for a single film goes to the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides with $378 million. As for film franchises, The Hobbit trilogy holds the record of $745 million, which was spread across the three films.

These movies are going to to be huge and epic, so it's not surprising that Disney would spend this kind of cash to make them happen. Disney is expecting them to do well at the box office, and I imagine they're hoping that these film pull off Avatar level box office numbers. I guess there's a chance that could happen. After all, these next two Avengers films are what Marvel has been working toward since the very beginning.

I have no doubt that directors Joe and Anthony Russo and their team are going to give fans something awesomely spectacular with these films, and I can't wait to see what it is!

Teresa Palmer is Thrust Into a Nightmarish Situation in the Trailer for BERLIN SYNDROME

0
0

If you're a fan of Teresa Palmer (Lights Out, Hacksaw Ridge, Warm Bodies), you're not going to want to miss Berlin Syndrome because she gives her best performance yet. I had a chance to see the movie at Sundance, and I thought it was a solidly made thriller. This is also a really great trailer that perfectly captures what this movie is.

While holidaying in Berlin, Australian photojournalist, Clare meets Andi, a charismatic local man and there is an instant attraction between them. A night of passion ensues. But what initially appears to be the start of a romance suddenly takes an unexpected and sinister turn when Clare wakes the following morning to discover Andi has left for work and locked her in his apartment. An easy mistake to make, of course, except Andi has no intention of letting her go again.

In my review, I said:

"The film is utterly brutal and extremely intense as we watch this young woman forced to survive in this horrific situation. This dude who locked her away has got some serious issues and as the story unfolds, Teresa unlocks some of the mysteries that he's been hiding from her."

There are some pretty demented twists and turns, and it does a great job of making the audience feel uncomfortable.

Berlin Syndrome comes from Australian filmmaker Cate Shortland (SomersaultLoreThe Silence), and it will be released sometime this year.

You Have to See This Cool and Creepy Stop Motion Short I'M SCARED

While browsing through Reddit today I managed to find this awesome stop motion short that's worthy of a premiere on the big screen. BorisWong put his life savings and three years into making "I'm Scared," which features a boy telling his younger brother about all the things that scare him. It's something that could be a bit spooky for young kids, but features a good message that they would ultimately appreciate. I also really like the writing and rhyming nature of the brother as he recites all the things that scare him! Give it a look below.

Michael Jackson Wanted to Play Professor X in X-MEN

David Hayter recently spoke to THR about the early days of the 2000 movie X-Men, and there was some crazy stuff happening in the early development. For example, celebrities were popping up left and right hoping for a chance to be cast in the film, most notably Michael Jackson! Hayter explained:

I was writing it for the comic book characters. I was brought on as they were casting, so I was lucky enough to be there for some of the people who came in like Terence Stamp for Xavier and Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey for Storm. Michael Jackson came in because he wanted to play Professor X. It was amazing. Shaq came in. Viggo Mortensen came in. I really liked Viggo for Wolverine, but it didn't come together for whatever reason. Angela Bassett was our first choice for Storm, but her agents wanted more money than we had at the time. Same with Rachael Leigh Cook for Rogue.

Ultimately, I think we can all agree that it's a good thing that MJ didn't get the role of Charles Xavier, but what about those other names? Angela Bassett might have fit the mantle of Storm at least look wise better than Halle Berry, and I'm wondering what alternate universe features Viggo Mortensen for Wolverine! Could you imagine Mortensen taking point on both Lord Of The Rings and X-Men at the same time?

What I can't imagine is Michael Jackson playing Charles Xavier! You want to talk about a casting that would ruin an entire film, that would be it! Glad Patrick Stewart snagged the role.

Intense Trailer for Netflix's War Drama SAND CASTLE with Henry Cavill and Nicholas Hoult

Netflix isn't done showing us what other projects they have coming out soon. Like I said, Netflix is ushering in a whole new era of entertainment. Just look at all of the trailers they've released in the past few days and the level of talent they are working with. It's awesome!

They've just released a trailer for a war drama they produced called Sand Castle, which stars Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) and Nicholas Hoult (X-Men). The film is based on a true story, and it looks like great film filled with intensity.

Set in Iraq in 2003, Sand Castle follows a group of American soldiers in the early days of the second Gulf War. Bearing witness to the heat and the horror is the inexperienced Private Matt Ocre (Nicholas Hoult), who, together with several fellow soldiers, is ordered to the outskirts of Baqubah to repair a water pumping station damaged by U.S. bombs. But, as Ocre discovers, in an atmosphere where resentment and anger fester, trying to win the hearts and minds of the locals is a task fraught with danger. It’s here, in the streets, squares and schools that he discovers the true cost of war.

The film also stars Glen Powell, Logan Marshall-Green, Beau Knapp, Neil Brown Jr., Parker Sawyers, Sam Spruell, Sammy Sheik, and Tommy Flanagan. It will be available to watch on Netflix on April 21.

Director Lexi Alexander Says Marvel Should Develop a MS. MARVEL Series Because She's Muslim-American

As you know, Marvel is exploding with awesomeness when it comes to their movies and most of their TV shows. Right now I'm loving what they are doing with Legion! That show is such an incredible and unique comic book-inspired series.

On top of that and all of their Netflix series, they are also currently developing an Inhumans series and another one that focuses on the mutants of X-Men. One series they are not working on is an adaptation of Ms. Marvel, and director Lexi Alexander (Punisher: War Zone, Supergirl, Arrow) thinks now is the time to get on that.

For those of you not familiar with the current version of Ms. Marvel, she's a Muslim-American teenager living in New Jersey named Kamala Khan, who is a fan of superheroes like the Avengers and, more importantly, Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel. She was such a big fan that she actually started writing online fan-fiction about the heroes. She got her shape-shifting powers after accidentally being exposed to the Terrigen Mist. After that, Kamala becomes the hero of her neighborhood in Jersey City and fights crime.

Alexander took to Twitter recently to share her thoughts on the character:

When it comes to her "purely political" statement, I think it's safe to say she's talking about Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter, who has been known to have issues in the past with bringing female superheroes to life. He's not involved with the Marvel movie decisions anymore, but he still has a say in what happens with the TV shows. Then, of course, there's the fact that the character is a Muslim-American, which is a hot topic of conversation these days. Alexander believes his personal political views could conflict with the development of a Ms. Marvel show.

It could also be a great opportunity to represent a Muslim-American hero in a series that could help reinforce positive stereotypes. A Ms. Marvel series could also help show viewers what the Muslim culture is like.

Muslim-American politics aside, Ms. Marvel is a great character, and it would be awesome to see a series that focuses on her. My girls love Ms. Marvel, and if there was a show they would totally watch it. There aren't really any live-action Marvel series for kids, and this would be perfect! This could be a great opportunity for Marvel. It would be cool to see it happen one day.

Red Band Trailer for CHIPS Is Pretty Damn Funny

0
0

As much as I love both Dax Shepard and Michael Pena, I had relatively low expectations for this CHIPS movie coming out. After hearing Ponch talk about when it's okay to "eat butt," the bar for comedy was raised quite a bit! Sure it's dumb, but I think Pena and Shepard have enough quality between them to really sell those cornball and cheap humor jokes in a way few actors could.

I also feel like this is going to be a film people like my parents (who were young during the classic series) will go to and then subsequently be appalled so make sure to give anyone like that a heads up prior to attending!

CHIPS is in theaters March 24th.
