No...One...Sings "Gaston" Like Josh Gad in This BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Clip

Disney is gearing up for the release of its live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, and as we approach its release date, we're starting to see more and more snippets of the movie make their way online. We've already gotten a glimpse of Emma Watson singing "Belle" in one clip, and now the studio has released a new clip of Josh Gad's LeFou belting out the iconic "Gaston" song from the tavern where the macho douchebag (Luke Evans) hangs out.

"Gaston" is my favorite song from the animated movie, so it's strange to hear a new version that isn't perfectly in line with all of the tiny intricacies of the original. A couple of lyrics have changed and Gad does a nice job of selling them, but I'll always look at this movie with a bit of side eye and consider the original to be the legit version of this story. What do you think about this version of "Gaston"?

Beauty and the Beast hits theaters on March 17, 2017.

Captivating Trailer for Netflix's Doc FIVE CAME BACK Focuses on How WWII Changed Hollywood

Netflix has released the trailer for a fascinating new three part documentary called Five Came Back. It focuses on how World War II changed Hollywood and features directors like Steven Spielberg and Guillermo del Toro diving into this subject matter.

Netflix put out an extensive press release with tons of details on what the doc will entail and I'm completely captivated by the film's subject matter. I love the history of film and the history of WWII and seeing a doc focusing on how these two things affected each other is film geek candy! Here are the additional details:

The movie is an adaptation of the book Five Came Back: A Story of Hollywood and the Second World War written by Mark Harris. It's tells "the extraordinary story of how Hollywood changed World War II – and how World War II changed Hollywood, through the interwoven experiences of five filmmakers who interrupted their successful careers to serve their country, risk their lives and bring the truth back to the American people: John Ford, William Wyler, John Huston, Frank Capra, and George Stevens. To guide viewers through the different personalities, interweaving chronologies and globe-trotting locales, the Five Came Back team turned to the voices of five modern cinematic masters: Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Guillermo del Toro, Paul Greengrass and Lawrence Kasdan. Three-time Oscar-winner Meryl Streep provides the narration for Five Came Back.
“Film was an intoxicant from the early days of the silent movies,” says Spielberg in the opening moments of Five Came Back. “And early on, Hollywood realized that it had a tremendous tool or weapon for change, through cinema.” Adds Coppola, “Cinema in its purest form could be put in the service of propaganda. Hitler and his minister of propaganda Joseph Goebbels understood the power of the cinema to move large populations toward your way of thinking.”
Tracing the ways patriotism and industry existed side by side, and the role Hollywood played in mobilizing and shaping the consciousness of a divided America, Bouzereau and his team gathered over 100 hours of archival and newsreel footage; watched over 40 documentaries and training films directed and produced by the five directors during the war; and studied 50 studio films and over 30 hours of outtakes and raw footage from their war films.
The stories in Five Came Back reverberate with meaning. We are still living through their coda.
Says director Laurent Bouzereau, “These filmmakers, at that time, had a responsibility in that what they were putting into the world would be taken as truth. You can see a lot of echoes in what is happening today. It became clear as we were doing this series that the past was re-emerging in some ways, including the line we see that separates cinema that exists for entertainment and cinema that carries a message. And politics is more than ever a part of entertainment. I find it courageous of filmmakers then, as with artists today, to speak up for those who don’t have a platform.”
“It’s the hardest thing to convey to young, contemporary audiences – even if you understand it intellectually, you don’t understand viscerally that you had to wait a really, really long time for news,” says writer Mark Harris. “We’re in a context now where we have five different ways of knowing what is making news this morning. But you’re truly in another universe when you’re talking about the 1940s. There were newspapers and radio, but visually, the movies were the only way people could see the war.”
“Five Came Back is a wholly immersive journey through film history and a sweeping look at the vital role storytellers play during our most tumultuous times. This rare vantage where we witness these titans of cinema forego their lucrative careers and embrace a new form of filmmaking, the documentary form, in the name of patriotism is absolutely breathtaking,” says Lisa Nishimura, Netflix VP of Original Documentary Programming. “This series is an added dimension to Netflix’s slate of diverse content, a cinephile’s dream that will also introduce a new generation of viewers to these legendary directors and their classic films.”
In conjunction with the launch of Five Came Back, Netflix will also present 13 documentaries discussed in the series, including Ford’s The Battle of Midway, Wyler’s The Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress, Huston’s Report from the Aleutians, Capra’s The Battle of Russia, Stevens’ Nazi Concentration Camps, and Stuart Heisler’s The Negro Soldier.
Directed by Laurent Bouzereau and written by Mark Harris, Five Came Back is an Amblin Television, Scott Rudin and IACF Production in association with Passion Pictures and Rock Paper Scissors Entertainment. The series is executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Scott Rudin, Barry Diller, Angus Wall, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Eli Bush, Jason Sack, Linda Carlson, Jason Sterman, Ben Cotner, Adam Del Deo and Lisa Nishimura. Producers are Bouzereau and John Battsek.

The three part documentary will premiere on Netflix on March 31st. Check out the trailer and tell us what you think!

Stephen Moyer Will Lead Fox's Marvel Mutant Based Pilot

Stephen Moyer has been picked by Fox to headline their upcoming pilot based within the X-Men universe. The drama focuses on the regular parents of mutant children and their attempt to escape the hostile government attempting to round up all mutants. True Blood veteran Moyer has been tapped to play the father of the family, Reed. Reed is described as an ambitious lawyer trying to keep the balance between a busy work life and time with his family.

I'm a fan of the casting! I loved Stephen Moyer as Bill Compton and would love to see him in a Marvel series. Moyer will join Blair Redford and Jamie Chung in the cast for a project that is slowly taking shape with every headline it gets. Let's hope that the series is not only good, but it doesn't get the Fox cancellation that literally every sci-fi series that comes to the network seems to get much too soon.

The Academy Apologizes for Screwing Up Best Picture Announcement; Watch Jimmy Kimmel Explain the Ceremony's Insane Ending

By now, you've heard all about "envelopegate," the nickname of the utterly crazy end to this weekend's Academy Awards when Moonlight won Best Picture after the award being briefly (incorrectly) given to La La Land. Following an apology from PricewaterhouseCoopers, the accounting firm responsible for the mix-up, the Academy itself has issued a formal apology for the gaffe.

“We deeply regret the mistakes that were made during the presentation of the Best Picture category during last night’s Oscar ceremony. We apologize to the entire cast and crew of La La Land and Moonlight whose experience was profoundly altered by this error. We salute the tremendous grace they displayed under the circumstances. To all involved — including our presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, the filmmakers, and our fans watching worldwide — we apologize.
"For the last 83 years, the Academy has entrusted PwC to handle the critical tabulation process, including the accurate delivery of results. PwC has taken full responsibility for the breaches of established protocols that took place during the ceremony. We have spent last night and today investigating the circumstances, and will determine what actions are appropriate going forward. We are unwaveringly committed to upholding the integrity of the Oscars and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.”

I'm still in shock that something like this could happen, and you can be damn sure that it will continue to be one of the most talked-about moments in the history of the Academy Awards for decades to come.

The accounting firm has since issued yet another apology, this time in a statement on Twitter:

Reportedly, the mix-up may have resulted from Cullinan being distracted because he was tweeting a photo of Emma Stone from backstage (which has now been deleted), an act which was against protocol. What a wild night. Listen to Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel explain the situation from his perspective:

95 Screenshots From the Latest GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Trailer

Last night Marvel unleashed a new trailer for James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and fans went batshit crazy over it! It was packed full of incredibly awesome footage. I've probably watched the trailer about a dozen times now, and I just can't wait to see the movie and watch this story play out!

I've gone through the trailer frame-by-frame and taken 95 screenshots of it for you to check out. There's a lot of cool stuff to see. On top of seeing more fun footage of all the characters that we already know and love, we also get to see new footage of Mantis, Ayesha, and even Peter Quill finally meeting his dad, Ego the Living Planet (Kurt Russell), in his human form! There's also a shot of a crazy-looking massive planet that Star-Lord and Groot are flying toward. I wonder if that is Ego the Living Planet in his planet form.

The movie stars Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki, and Chris Sullivan.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be released on May 5, 2017. Look through the screenshots and if you notice something anything cool or noteworthy, let us know in the comment section below!

We’ve got a slick new IMAX poster for Ghost in the Shell featuring Scarlett Johansson as The Major laying someone out with a brutal beatdown. We also have a new photo of her sitting on her sweet motorcycle. I’ve also got eight character motion posters for you to check out featuring Major, Batou (Pilo Asbaek), Aramaki (Takeshi Kitano), Ishikawa (Lasarus Ratuere), Borma (Tawanda Manyimo), Saito (Yutaka Izumihara), Ladriya (Danusia Samal), and Togusa (Chin Han). When talking to Empire about the character she plays, Johansson said:

“She’s living a unique experience as somebody who has an idea of who she thinks she was, and then who she is now, and the person that she feels she is, this sort of gnawing feeling she has in her ghost. Being able to play those three sides: the ego, the superego and the id... That was pretty enticing.”

I’ve been impressed by everything that I’ve seen from this movie, and I just hope to hell that the story and script are actually as strong as they look. We’ll find out soon enough!

Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, "GHOST IN THE SHELL" follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic¹s advancements in cyber technology.

Ghost in the Shell was directed by Rupert Sanders and will be released on March 31st.

Wicked Blood-Filled Red-Band Clip From THE BELKO EXPERIMENT

$

I've been hearing nothing but great things about this movie from people who I know who have seen it. I have yet to see if for myself, but judging from the buzz spreading, it's going to deliver some insanely blood-soaked entertainment.

We have a red-band clip for you to watch today called "All In My Mind," and it gives you a little tease of the messed-up and disturbing violence that I've heard this film is filled with. It focuses on Sean Gunn's character in the middle of a crazy shootout that he doesn't want to believe is really happening. Check it out:

The Belko Experiment explores a twisted social experiment "in which a group of 80 Americans are locked in their high-rise corporate office in Bogata and ordered by an unknown voice on an intercom system to participate in a deadly game of kill or be killed. It’s not long before the situation devolves into an ultraviolent winner take all gore fest that has everyone fighting for their lives while trying to figure out who is really pulling the strings."

The cast includes John Gallagher Jr. (Short Term 12), Melonie Diaz (Fruitvale Station), John C. McGinley (Office Space), Tony Goldwyn (Scandal), David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight), Gail Bean (Unexpected), Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy), Valentine Miele (Super), Mikaela Hoover (Super), Josh Brener (Silicon Valley), Rusty Schwimmer (Louie), Joe Fria (Speedwagon), James Earl (The Lazarus Effect), Brent Sexton (The Killing), Stephen Blackehart (Tromeo and Juliet), David Del Rio (Pitch Perfect), and Ben Davis (Red Dead Redemption).

The movie, which was written and produced by James Gunn, is set to be released on March 17th.

See Harley Quinn in a Wedding Dress in SUICIDE SQUAD Photo From a Deleted Scene

$

Time to rev up your speculation engines. A new photo from David Ayer's Oscar-winning movie Suicide Squad has surfaced at the China Times (via CBM), and it features Margot Robbie in full Harley Quinn hair and makeup, but she's wearing a wedding dress. As anyone who has seen Suicide Squad will recall, that particular outfit never appears in the movie, so it's clearly from a deleted scene.

Was there initially a sequence in the movie in which Harley and the Joker got married? Was their wedding ceremony interrupted? Did Ben Affleck's Batman officiate it? This is where we're going to need those speculation engines, because we have no clue about the answers to any of those questions. It certainly seems as if Harley was going to at least prepare for a wedding in the movie, but considering this film's notorious post-production troubles and the fact that there were so many different cuts of the movie making the rounds internally at Warner Bros., I'm not surprised to see something like this surface that wasn't even remotely hinted at in the final feature.

What do you think happened in the scene in which Harley was wearing this dress? Your guess is as good as mine, so feel free to fire away in the comments.

Christopher Walken and Steve Coogan Sign On to IRREPLACEABLE YOU

Steve Coogan and Christopher Walken have both signed onto the upcoming romantic drama Irreplaceable You. Currently filming in New York, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Michiel Huisman are starring in the film, which is being directed by Veep director and executive producer Stephanie Laing.

According to THR, the movie is about “Abbie and Sam, who were soulmates since the age of 8 and were destined to be together forever until death got in the way.” Well, that sounds happy.

There is no word on who Coogan and Walken will play, but I’m guessing Walken will be a little bit zany and Coogan will be a little bit grumpy. I don’t really care whether they play to or against type in this one though, because I love everyone in this cast and am a sucker for a romantic drama, so I will be ready to shell out ten bucks for a ticket whenever this movie comes to theaters.

Brad Pitt Is Confidently Ready for Battle in Teaser Trailer for Netflix's WAR MACHINE

$

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for their upcoming film War Machine, which comes from the writer and director of Animal KingdomDavid Michôd. The film stars Brad Pitt as the successful and charismatic four-star general Stanley McChrystal, "who leapt in like a rock star to command NATO forces in Afghanistan, only to be taken down by a journalist’s no-holds-barred exposé." This looks like the perfect role and film for Pitt, and I'm looking forward to watching it.

The Netflix original film is based on the book The Operators: The Wild & Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan, which was written by the late journalist Michael Hastings. Here's a synopsis that was released with the trailer:

A pitch-black war story for our times, writer-director David Michôd (Animal Kingdom) recreates a U.S. General’s roller-coaster rise and fall as part reality, part savage parody – raising the specter of just where the line between them lies today. His is an absurdist look at a born leader’s ultra-confident march right into the dark heart of folly. At the story’s core is Brad Pitt’s sly take on one of the most polarizing war figures of a generation.

War Machine also has an impressive supporting cast that includes Tilda Swinton, Sir Ben Kingsley, Anthony Michael Hall, Topher Grace, Will Poulter, Lakeith Stanfield, Emory Cohen, John Magaro, RJ Cyler, Alan Ruck, Scoot McNairy, and Meg Tilly.

War Machine will hit Netflix on May 26th.

Abracadabra: New DOCTOR STRANGE Reel Shows Off the Film's Award-Worthy VFX

We've already seen a couple of VFX breakdowns from Marvel Studios' excellent Doctor Strange, but now a new one has surfaced that's just as impressive. Framestore, one of the visual effects companies that worked on the film, has posted a collection of some of their work on YouTube. I know The Jungle Book won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects this past weekend, and while that's definitely warranted (almost all of that movie is VFX), I wish Doctor Strange could have won because I think these are the best effects in any Marvel Studios movie so far. Oh well — not winning an award doesn't change the fact that the final film looks amazing, so props again to the team at Framestore and ILM for such great work.

I don't know about you guys, but I am hyped to see Alison Brie in Netflix's Glow! The series just got a new teaser which announced the show will be premiering June 23rd. For those who haven't been keeping up with what the show is about, here's a brief description:

Inspired by the short-lived but beloved show from the 80s, GLOW tells the fictional story of Ruth Wilder (Alison Brie), an out-of-work, struggling actress in 1980s Los Angeles who finds one last chance for stardom when she’s thrust into the glitter and spandex world of women's wrestling. In addition to working with 12 Hollywood misfits, Ruth also has to compete with Debbie Eagan (Betty Gilpin) a former soap actress who left the business to have a baby, only to be sucked back into work when her picture perfect life is not what it seems. And at the wheel is Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron), a washed-up, coked-up B-movie director who now must lead 14 women on the journey to wrestling stardom. GLOW, only on Netflix June 23.

Take a look at the teaser and continue on below.

Just to give you an idea of what to expect...here's some of the goofiness that happened when the actual GLOW Wrestling was on the air. If it's even half as good as this, I'll be happy!

Wolverine 1/6 Scale Action Figure Review - Sideshow Collectibles

If you're a fan of Wolverine, Sideshow Collectibles has one of the coolest Wolverine action figures you can get your hands on! They recently sent me one to review, and this thing is freakin' awesome! It's so awesome that it's one of the few Sideshow figures that I kept out of the box to display and show off.

This is a Sideshow Collectibles exclusive and with Logan coming out this week, I thought it would be the perfect time to post my review for it. This is the same figure that Hugh Jackman shared on Twitter that caused the internet to go wild with speculation that this was a hint he would be wearing the classic suit in Logan. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. He was just showing off the cool figure!

The quality and craftsmanship of its design and build is superb work. They got all of the great details on the character and the brown and tan suit. The figure comes with two heads, one with and one without the cowl. There's also a pulled back cowl; two pairs of interchangeable arms featuring a neutral pose and a flexed pose; four pairs of hands, one of which features the claws extended; and then there are the 25 points of articulation.

There's currently a low stock of these at Sideshow, so if you want to order one you better be quick about it, bub! You can order it here. Below you'll find a video review I did on Facebook Live along with a series of photos that I took showing off the details. Check it out!

ALIEN: COVENANT Film Crew Promises Lots of Blood and Horrific Carnage!

The new trailer for Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant was released yesterday, and we got to see the xenomorph aliens in full on attack mode. I'm sure you've figured it out by now that Scott is going back to his roots and is looking to give Alien fans a horrifically terrifying film.

During a recent set visit, /Film got to talk to the crew about the horror aspect of the film, the buckets of blood they used, and how it compares to the original Alien film and Prometheus. Producer Mark Huffam explains how Covenant is a much darker film than Prometheus:

“It is going to be more of a horror movie than Prometheus was. It kind of inhabits both parts very well. It’s got the scale of Prometheus, but also it brings in the suspense and the corridors get smaller, darker, and you’re just wondering what’s down there, and they’re still not turning the lights on before they go in."

Expanding on that and comparing it to Alien, special visual effects supervisor Neil Corbould said:

"[Alien] was probably the old haunted house and this is like the new haunted house. It’s very much a modern day version of that. It’s definitely going to be scary. […] After Prometheus, everyone said they wanted more aliens, they wanted more horror. [Ridley’s] certainly taken that on board and I think you’re going to get that."

To help deliver that increase in horror there was lots and lots of blood! They were ordering insane amounts of blood in 40 gallon drums! Then they put all of that blood to use. Creature supervisor Conor O’Sullivan said that the rumors of the gruesome violence are not exaggerated. He told them that he "used more blood on this than Saving Private Ryan," and creatures supervisor Adam Johansen said that it’s the bloodiest set he’s ever been on. When talking about how that blood was used in the film, Corbould explained:

"At the beginning of the movie we looked at all types of different blood. Then we put a few tests on to film just to see what color we liked. We got it from all over the world. We made some of our own as well, and we ended up using our own stuff that we manufactured here, which was quite ironic, because we spent quite a few thousand dollars shipping it in from everywhere else. But, in the long run, screen blood’s quite expensive anyways. Everyone has their own little recipe and they won’t tell anyone else, and ours is just basically corn starch and food coloring and that’s it.

"It’s just about getting the color right, because each camera picks up different colors, you know? They’re very subtle, but sometimes it can look silly. It can look too red or too dark, so it’s just about getting the right color pattern. We just tested it on…we’ve got this stand-in that came in for the day, had no idea that she going to be covered in blood. She nearly fainted once. We said, ‘It’s not real. It’s just corn syrup.’ But yeah, that quite funny.

"We’ve got these blood chuckers, which are different sizes with compressed air and then on the top…they’re like a long tube, and at the end of the tube we put a cap on it with different patterns so it gives you like a spray or splurge. We’re quite artistic."

This sounds like it would have been a ton of fun to work on for the effects team! Blood wasn't the only practical effect used on the set of the film, though. They wanted to make sure this movie looked as realistic as possible, so many of the effects were done in camera.

"We’re trying to make it as realistic as possible, because that’s what Ridley wants. He wants the shock factor. We’re going all out for that. From the stuff I’ve seen, it looks fantastic. I think it’s going to have a similar impact to what the original Alien did, because that was quite shocking when everyone saw that. You know, it’s a true, true horror movie. I think that’s what this is going to be like."

Finally, director Ridley Scott talked about returning to the horror genre with Covenant, but in the process, he explained why he doesn't think of it as a horror film.

"Alien was kind of a posh horror film. I never think of it as a horror film. It just scared the shit out of people. I think it had too much class to be classified as a horror film. Nothing wrong with horror, but I think horror is real tension, real fear. It’s very hard to scare people. In the bloody films you see, which ironically are not even frightening, they’re just like, “Yikes!” So I thought I’d try to come back and do one."

Not sure why he won't come out and call it a horror film because Alien is totally a horror! It has the classic horror movie jump scares and everything. It's just a masterfully made horror film! Hopefully, he brings that level of terror and fear back for Alien: Covenant. So far, it looks extremely promising.

Netflix has been on a roll today teasing their original shows as the first teaser from David Fincher's series Mindhunter has been released! For those who aren't familiar, here's a little more information:

MINDHUNTER will premiere globally on Netflix in October. MINDHUNTER features Jonathan Groff (Looking), Holt McCallanay (Sully), Anna Torv (Fringe) and Hannah Gross (Unless). The series is directed by David Fincher (Gone Girl, The Social Network, Zodiac), Asif Kapadia (Amy, Senna), Tobias Lindholm (A War, A Hijacking) and Andrew Douglas (The Amityville Horror, U Want Me 2 Kill Him?). Fincher, Joshua Donen (Gone Girl, The Quick and the Dead) Charlize Theron (Girlboss, Hatfields & McCoys) and Cean Chaffin (Gone Girl, Fight Club) are Executive Producers.

I love Fincher and all his work, and I have a morbid curiosity about serial killers, so this one is right up my alley. Check out the trailer and see if it's something that will interest you as well.

GRAVITY FALLS Creator Alex Hirsch Joins Animated SPIDER-MAN Movie

Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch has joined Sony's animated Spider-Man film. The film, which will introduce Spider-Man Miles Morales to a mainstream audience, was announced last month. Hirsch has joined the project as a story contributor, which means he'll probably be spiking in a lot of Free Mason and Illuminati references like he did in Gravity Falls.

Kidding aside, it's cool to see someone as talented as Hirsch joining the team to tell the story of Miles Morales. It's also super cool that Sony is planning a big screen animated Spider-Man film that will introduce a different Spider-Man than the one portrayed by Tom Holland! Not a whole lot of details on the project are known at this time, but we'll keep you updated as more comes to light!
