There's an R-Rated Animated POWER RANGERS Series Currently in Development

0
0

Fresh off the announcement that he would be heading up a Castlevania series for Netflix, Adi Shanker also dropped the knowledge that he is currently developing an R-rated animated series for the Power Rangers. This new series appears to be in the same vein as the fan film Shankar released a couple years ago, which you can check out right now.

Shankar promises his take on the universe will be "much darker" than the original series if you couldn't gather as much from the video. Shanker adds that scripts are being written and the series is being shopped to various networks. No word on if Power Rangers license holder Saban is on board with this, and considering they're launching their own new brand of Power Rangers, I would say no.

Still, you could do a little work with the script and turn it into an entirely new action series heavily inspired by the Power Rangers universe and still have a decent product. If you remove all the licensing from the above fan film, it's still pretty decent for what it is. I'm not putting much stock in this idea surviving long, but we will keep you updated if anything comes of it.

The Script for THE BATMAN Is Reportedly Done and Everyone Is Happy With It

There's been a lot of talk about The Batman ever since Ben Affleck dropped out as the director. Just yesterday everyone and their dog started reporting that the studio was looking to start everything over from scratch. I didn't report it because the "news" came from an "opinion" piece. Everyone took that opinion and reported it as news.

Batman-News.com decided to reach out to Variety reporter Justin Kroll and ask him if he knew if there was any truth to the opinion. His reply had a much more positive outlook on what is really going on. He said that the script for the film has been turned in and that everyone is happy with it including President and Chief Content Officer Toby Emmerich and Ben Affleck. Here's the tweet:

Kroll went on to reiterate that any rewrites that are done should be viewed as a sign that the studio is trying to make sure they make a great movie, not as a sign that the project is in trouble.

Rewrites on films are done all the time! It's nothing new, and it doesn't mean anything is wrong. But this being Batman and a big DC film project, it's the internet's nature to think of the negative stuff, which is something I'm guilty of as well.

Regardless, it doesn't sound like the movie is in the kind of trouble that we initially thought it was. Maybe the statement Affleck made when he left the project was actually 100% genuine. Look, I just love Batman, and I seriously hope that Warner Bros. and their creative team end up giving fans another badass Batman movie.

What do you think about all this talk and drama surrounding The Batman

A New GHOST IN THE SHELL Trailer Is Coming on Monday, But First Here's a New TV Spot

0
0

This coming Monday, Paramount Pictures will be releasing a new full trailer for their live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. I have no doubt it will be loaded with lots of awesome new action-packed footage. While we wait for that trailer to be released, we've got a new TV spot for you to check out below.

During a recent interview with Marie ClaireScarlett Johansson once again addressed the "Whitewashing" casting controversy saying:

"I certainly would never presume to play another race of a person. Diversity is important in Hollywood, and I would never want to feel like I was playing a character that was offensive. Also, having a franchise with a female protagonist driving it is such a rare opportunity. Certainly, I feel the enormous pressure of that—the weight of such a big property on my shoulders."

Anyone who's familiar with the source material knows that the character Johansson plays is a synthetic "full-body prosthesis," which means she's not any race. She's an android.

Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, GHOST IN THE SHELL follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

Rupert Sanders is directing the film, which also stars Michael Pitt, Juliette Binoche, “Beat” Takeshi Kitano, Michael Wincott, and Pilou Asbæk. It's set to be released on March 31, 2017.

Hugh Jackman Drops Big Revealing Details on Professor X in LOGAN

0
0

I was so happy to hear that Hugh Jackman's Logan and Patrick Stewart's Professor X would be teaming up for one more movie together. We know that both characters are aging and with that age comes interesting new issues with their mutant powers that they have to deal with.

In a recent interview with Total Film, Jackman went into some big revealing details regarding Professor X and what exactly he's dealing with in the film. It's pretty insane stuff, but before we get into what Jackman said, I'll throw this up:

Professor X is in his 90s when the story of this film picks up in 2024 and with age comes problems with the mind. What happens when a powerful mind like Professor X's starts to break down? Jackman tells us:

"One thing we explore is what happens when the most powerful brain on the planet falls victim to dementia of some kind. We don’t get into specifics. Is it Alzheimer’s? Is it dementia? But we know that he’s now dangerous because when his brain doesn’t work, things happen.”

In case you're wondering what kinds of things happen, Jackman teases:

“He has seizures and people around him fall into comas. Cars crash… What I loved about what [writer/director] Jim [Mangold] wrote is that you see and feel the frustration of caring for someone like that… it’s very real life, in a way.”

Damn! That's an incredibly interesting plot element this is for the story! I love that they are getting into the nitty-gritty details of this stuff and using them to drive the characters and story forward.

We've actually seen Xavier having these seizures in the trailers that have been released. It's those scenes where everything gets violently shaking. I have a feeling Xavier isn't going to make it through this movie alive, and it's going to be hard to watch him deteriorate throughout the course of the film because I love this character so much.

Logan will be released in theaters on March 3, 2017.

Watch: Will Arnett Prank Calls a Toy Shop as LEGO BATMAN

Will Arnett performs one of the most challenging prank phone calls I've ever seen in this great video. Arnett appeared on BBC 1 Radio in character as Lego Batman to promote The LEGO Batman Movie and ends up prank calling a toy shop, but there's a twist. Batman must begin every sentence with the next letter of the alphabet all the way through! You'd think it'd be challenging, but Arnett doesn't seem to struggle too much. Maybe he's a master of improv, or he probably has a script that's helping him out as he goes. I laughed either way so great work Will!

Insane Trailer for the Surfing Documentary THE BIG WAVE PROJECT

“The Danger Level increases as we attempt to climb a mountain of water where the peak keeps getting higher” - Alex Gray, Big Wave Surfer.

One thing you might not know about me is that I love the art and sport of surfing. I enjoy surfing whenever I get a chance, and I love watching other people surf, especially those insanely crazy dudes that big wave surf. Watching those guys surf waves 30 feet high or bigger just blows my mind, and the fact that they are able to survive after wiping out on those gigantic waves is incredible.

I've got a trailer here for an intense-looking documentary called The Big Wave Project, which focuses on the evolution of big-wave riding and the unique bond among those who go chasing after these waves for the ultimate adrenaline rush.

This doc gives us a fascinating look at what it takes to be a big wave surfer and what these guys are dealing with when they paddle out into the ocean to battle these monstrous waves. I also included a separate video worth watching that goes into details about surviving a big wave hold down.

A NEVER BEFORE SEEN RAW AND UNCENSORED JOURNEY INTO ONE OF THE WORLD'S MOST EXCITING CHALLENGES - RIDING THE WORLD'S BIGGEST WAVES.
5-years in the making “The Big Wave Project” follows a tight-knit crew (A Band Of Brothers) of leading big wave surfers who are working together to attempt a personal goal that drills to core passion of surfing - Riding the World's Biggest Wave.
We hear candid personal, no-holes barred accounts as the real fear of death walks side by side with ultimate personal glory.
"The Big Wave Project” also documents the history of the how the sport has developed from humble origins when the original big wave surfers paddled with little or no support to outer reefs through modern tow-in surfing on almost unsurfable reef breaks to the latest challenge of returning to the simple art of unassisted paddling into 100-foot walls of water.
This progression collides with the best swell season in 30-years as the world's best paddle and tow into some of the greatest waves ever documented including whats has been titled "the biggest wave ever attempted”

This film will be touring as part of the Australian Surf Movie Festival in May and June 2017
More screenings around the world will be announced. I can't wait to watch this!

Joe Manganiello and Marley Shelton Negotiating Joining Dwayne Johnson in RAMPAGE

0
0

Joe Manganiello and Marley Shelton are both currently in talks to be in a Rampage movie alongside Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Reports indicate the three will team up to save the world from destruction, although I think it's convenient they want you to believe all three actors are not the monsters.

Let's not forget that the monsters you play in Rampage are also human beings! While they do cause a fair bit of destruction, I always assumed they were working towards a good cause. Maybe that's just younger me projecting the destruction of cities and eating of people as noble. The film is set for release April of 2018, and I can only imagine what the final product will look like.

Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, and More Headline Weird Trailer for Civil War Thriller THE BEGUILED

The Beguiled is getting a remake and a star-studded cast and director to boot! Sofia Coppola directs Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning, Kirsten Dunst, and more in a thriller that finds Confederate women caring for a Union soldier in wartime. Check out the trailer and continue on below:

Descriptions for the film are scarce, but the original (which starred Clint Eastwood) pretty much revolved around the Union soldier getting freaky with each of the women in the home. Obviously, these hookups are going to lead to some nastiness that seems to turn bad for the Union soldier rather than everyone else. The film is set to be released in theaters June 23rd.

Pixar Director Andrew Stanton Will Direct Two Episodes of STRANGER THINGS Season 2

Andrew Stanton, the director of Pixar's Finding Dory and Finding Nemo will helm two episodes of Stranger Things season two. Like the rest of the world, Stanton is a big fan of the series, so he called up executive producer Shawn Levy, who told EW:

“Andrew called me out of the blue and said, ‘I love it. I would be honored to be part of it.'”

So they hired him to direct episodes five and six of the second season. I think it's great that Stanton is taking another crack at a live-action project. He previously made the movie John Carter for Disney, which I thought was a good movie, but it didn't do very well with most critics and it completely bombed at the box office.

There's been a lot of great Stranger Things season two news released this past week that's worth checking out. To catch up on all that news and get some more details about what the Duffer Bros. are doing with it, click here.

Rebecca Thomas (Electrick Children) was also hired to direct episode seven, the Duffer Bros. will helm episodes one, two, eight, and nine, and Levy will take on episodes three and four. Season two is set to premiere on Halloween.

Artist Joseph Harrold Heads to WESTWORLD With a Cool Art Print

0

We won't see season two of HBO's Westworld until sometime in 2018, but that doesn't mean we have to forget all about the show's popular first season until then. /Film points us to this cool print from artist Joseph Harrold that pays tribute to one of the most iconic moments from the pilot — when Ed Harris' mysterious Man in Black found a drawing of "the maze" on the underside of a host's scalp. Sure, it doesn't really make a ton of sense looking back on it with the knowledge we gained by the end of the season (why would that maze image have been burned on the inside of that guy's head in the first place?), but that doesn't change the fact that it looked really freakin' cool — as does this print. Nice work, Mr. Harrold.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Gets a Perfect 100 Score in Test Screening, Which Is Rare

0
0
guardians-of-the-galaxy-vol-2-gets-a-perfect-100-score-in-test-screening-which-is-rare

Marvel is currently conducting test screening for James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and according to a recent report from THR, the movie has received a perfect score of 100, which is extremely rare! Vol. 2 has tested higher than any movie in Marvel Studio's history. The report says:

Insiders confirm that extremely rare if not unprecedented score, saying the movie, which Disney is set to release May 5, bested the previous top Marvel scorers, Iron Man 3 and Avengers, both of which tested in the high 90s out of 100.

When I was growing up, I used to go to these audience test screenings all the time because why would I pass up the chance to see a free movie! Sometimes they would ask my friends and I to stay after and discuss the film and then they'd pay $20 each. Those were some fun times! Now I can't go to them because I'm press.

Every studio conducts these kinds of movie screening tests, and after the movie is over the audience is asked to fill out a form and rate the movie on a scale of 1 to 100. The fact that an entire large audience gave Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 a 100 score is pretty incredible and it means we should probably be more excited for the movie than we already are.  The report goes on to explain Marvel's screening process a bit more saying:

Marvel, however, culls from a more select pool of recruits, what it terms “friends and families screenings.” It’s larger than one might think and still a vigorous testing procedure, not a celebratory reception. It’s one way for Marvel to control security and prevent leaks of either plot spoilers or footage from getting out. And it’s a process Marvel has employed since the first Iron Man.

They go on to say that producers and studio executives "caution at putting too much meaning into test scores, pointing out the scores are best at gauging where audiences engage or disengage.." One producer says "It’s a single tool in a whole toolbox arsenal," and another says, "What an audience enjoys isn't necessarily what it responds to."

Regardless, the fact that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 received a perfect score the first time in Marvel Studios history is freakin' awesome! We all know that the movie is going to be great, but could this really be Marvel's first truly perfect film? We'll just have to wait to see it and judge for ourselves.

The movie will be released in theaters on May 5th!

Michael Douglas Confirms He'll Return as Hank Pym in ANT-MAN AND THE WASP

0
0

In case you had any doubt, Michael Douglas has confirmed that he will be back to reprise his role of Hank Pym in Ant-Man and The Wasp. I think most fans assumed he would return, but he had originally only signed on to star in one movie. Now we know for sure that he'll be back thanks to a recent Facebook post from the actor in which he shared a photo and a comment that says:

Getting ready to play Dr. Pym again in Ant-Man 2 shooting in July. Need to start growing the goatee now. #antman #marvel

About a year ago, the actor revealed that Marvel was coming after him for the sequel, and at the time he seemed like he was keen on doing it because he had such a great time making the first movie. I guess everything worked out during the negotiation process! The actor previously said:

"I just got a call recently – they want to negotiate for a sequel and I thought 'That’s great!' Hopefully, I won’t have to carry quite as much expositional dialogue as the first one but I had a wonderful time doing it. Just a great, great time. The cast was fantastic. Paul, Evangeline, Michael Pena – I’m sure he’ll be back. If they can scrape Corey Stoll off the wall, I’m sure they’ll want him too – he’s such a good villain. And Peyton too. It was a lovely experience, so you know, I welcome it. I chuckle about being involved with a movie that already has a release date in 2018... It’s hard to conceive of that, but it’s all good, all the way around, it’s all good."

Ant-Man and the Wasp will continue the adventures of Paul Rudd's Scott Lang, and this time around he'll be joined by Evangeline Lilly's Hope van Dyne, who will be suiting up as The Wasp. You can bet your ass that these characters are going to see some crazy fun action. When talking about being able to play with The Wasp in the film a few months ago, director Peyton Reed said:

“Well, I'm just personally excited to get to introduce yet another character into the Marvel Universe. After Ant-Man, now we get to see Wasp, so really designing her look, the way she moves, the power set, and figuring out, sort of, who Hope van Dyne is as a hero -- because we know her in a certain context in the first movie, but now she's going to have her coming out party -- that's exciting!”

Ant-Man and the Wasp will hit theaters on July 6th, 2018.

THOR: RAGNAROK Director Taika Waititi to Helm a Film Based on Michael Jackson's Chimp BUBBLES

0
0

Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi has found his next film project. He will be co-directing a stop-motion animated film based on Michael Jackson's chimp, Bubbles. The movie will be called Bubbles, and it will be co-directed by Mark Gustafson, from a Black List script written by Isaac Adamson. The movie will also be produced by Dan Harmon’s Starburns Industries.

According to Deadline, the film is an offbeat coming-of-age story that will be told in the vein of Anomalisa, which was also produced by Starburns. Waititi, who also directed What We Do in Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople, talked about the film project:

“It’s an idea that fascinates me and one I want to develop further. Most people know I’m a huge Michael Jackson fan, so the main thing for me is to make sure it’s respectful of him and his legacy. I’m not interested in making a biopic; I want to focus on telling a story that blends fact and fantasy, about an animal trying to make sense of the world."

He goes on to explain that this movie is not about Michael Jackson, it's about his chimp's journey through life in a human world:

“This film is not about Michael Jackson because that’s not a story for me to tell — or a story I’d be comfortable telling — it’s about a chimpanzee’s fascinating journey through the complex jungle of human life. I think animation is the only way to approach a story like this. I really loved Anomalisa because it was beautiful and authentic in its meditation on loneliness. I’m really excited to be working with Dan Harmon and Starburns as we share similar sensibilities and want to tell human stories in unique and artistic ways.”

This seems like such a perfect project for Waititi to develop, and I can't wait to see what he does with it. I've enjoyed every film that he's made in his career as a filmmaker, and this project seems to fit his storytelling style and personality.

The R-Rating of Stephen King's IT Explained and New Photos of The Losers Club

0
0

The big screen adaptation of Stephen King's It has been confirmed to be rated R. For any of you who have read the book, this rating shouldn't come as a surprise. The book is insanely jacked-up, and we've heard time and time again that this new movie would be a more proper adaptation than the TV movie made back in the '90s. That was a very watered down version of the story, but it was still great! The one thing that TV version had that this one doesn't is Tim Curry as Pennywise the Clown.

During an interview with Collider, producer Dan Lin talked about the rating of the film and also says that it has a Stand By Me vibe:

"It is a rated-R movie. If you’re going to make a 'Rated-R movie', you have to fully embrace what it is, and you have to embrace the source material. It is a scary clown that’s trying to kill kids. So of course that’s going to be a rated-R movie. The kids are amazing. You very much get a Stand by Me vibe as far as their camaraderie and the way they joke with each other and that they really care for each other. They do have a scary crown that’s taken over the town of Derry, so it’s going to be rated R."

There are a few things that happen in the book that are pretty hardcore and would be considered controversial to see in a film. I'd be shocked if they put some of the things in there. At one point in the book, all of the boys in The Losers Club take turns having sex with Beverly. It's explained:

When the Losers' travel into the sewer with the intent of destroying It, they momentarily find themselves hopelessly trapped. As the boys start to panic, Beverly comes up with the idea of having sex with the others in order to calm them down, as a result the other Losers take turns having sex with her. Because King didn't wish this to be viewed as a lewd scene, the narrative explicitly states that the act of intimacy with each of the boys' helps to further strengthen their friendship; and Beverly only experiences orgasm while having intercourse with Bill Denbrough and Ben Hanscom.

That's one of the scenes that I would be shocked to see in the movie. When it comes to the R-rating, I'm sure it's all going to be for the horror, blood, violence, and language aspect of the story. I also included new behind-the-scenes photos of The Losers Club.

The film is based on the novel by Stephen King, whose story recalls a promise made 28 years ago that forces seven adults to reunite in Derry, Maine, where as teenagers they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children. Unsure that their Losers Club had vanquished the creature all those years ago, the seven had vowed to return to Derry if IT should ever reappear. Now, children are being murdered again and their repressed memories of that summer return as they prepare to do battle with the monster lurking in Derry’s sewers once more.

The film is being released in two parts. The first one is set in the 1980s and will focus on the "Losers Club" as they come together to battle It. The second film is set 30 years later in modern times when the monster returns and the group of friends are forced to come back together to destroy It once and for all.

The movie stars Jaeden Lieberher (Midnight Special) as Bill Denbrough, Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) as Richie Tozier, newcomer Sophia Lillis as Beverly Marsh, Jack Dylan Grazer (Tales of Halloween) as Stan Uris, Wyatt Oleff (Guardians of the Galaxy) as Eddie Kaspbrak, Chosen Jacobs (Hawaii Five-0) as Mike Hanlon, and Jeremy Ray Taylor (42) as Ben Hanscom.

The first film is set to be released on September 8th, 2017.

WESTWORLD Star Thandie Newton Joining Lucasfilm's HAN SOLO Movie

0
0

It looks like Westworld star Thandie Newton is going to join the Star Wars universe in Lucasfilm's upcoming Han Solo standalone film. According to Variety, she's currently in negotiations to join the project.

There are no details on who she might play, but I can totally see her hanging around in the shady Star Wars underworld, which is where Han Solo's story takes place. We'll just have to wait and see what side she ends up on. Newton is awesome in Westworld, and she's been great in every other film project that I've seen her in.

She joins the previously cast Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, and Fleabag actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is also currently in talks. The LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are currently directing the untitled film. She'll make a great addition to the cast.

The movie is set to hit theaters on May 25, 2018.

Marvel has released an incredibly awesome video teasing what's to come in Avengers: Infinity War! It features interviews with some of the cast and crew of the film including Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), and Tom Holland (Spider-Man). The teaser also features some rad concept art of Thanos and Thor fighting alongside Rocket Raccoon! Watching this video and listening to everyone talk about what's in store for Avengers: Infinity War gave me goosebumps!

Production has already started on the next Avengers film, and everything that we've seen in the MCU up until this point is leading up to this moment. Marvel promises that this film will be “an event like no one has ever seen on film before!”

Bring it on, Marvel! Your fans are ready! Infinity War hits theaters on May 4th, 2018. The cast also includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Benedict Cumberbatch, Pom Klementieff, Tom Hollan, Peter Dinklage, and Josh Brolin. I'm sure we can expect even more than that. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War) are directing.

Kevin Smith and Mr. Sunday Movies Explain Why Ben Affleck Left THE BATMAN

0
0

There's been a lot of talk surrounding the departure of Ben Affleck as the director of The Batman. He offered a well thought out statement that I personally think was a cover for a lot more behind-the-scenes drama that led him to step away. For months, in the interviews he was giving, it always seemed like he was never fully committed and was always making statements that would give him an out if things weren't coming together they what he hoped. He obviously wasn't happy with the way things were progressing.

Kevin Smith and Mr. Sunday Movies both offer their opinionated explanations on why they think he left. If you're interested in this kind of stuff, their opinions are definitely worth checking out because they both offer likely scenarios. Smith explains:

"Let’s talk about why? Why would this happen? I don’t know. I haven’t spoken to him in years, but here’s my take on it. Here’s my hot take. What’s the upshot? Seriously. Everybody wants that to be the greatest Batman movie ever made, and you know, in many cases, maybe the greatest Batman movie ever made has been made, called The Dark Knight, it’s a pretty wonderful film. If that’s your bar for a Batman standalone, Chris Nolan couldn’t even measure up to himself with The Dark Knight Rises. I liked it but it wasn’t received nearly as well. Let’s be honest like that Joker portrayal is for the ages. Fucking beyond brilliant and shit.
"It’s a tall order man, so maybe he’s the kind of guy who’s just like ‘why bother?’ Why am I going to step up to the plate, no matter what I do people are going to bitch? If it ain’t fucking The Dark Knight, I’m fucked, but if I’m just acting in it, my name’s Paul and this is between ya’ll, I’m just the Bat, that’s it. The guy or girl tells me what to do and go and so you got a beef with the movie? Talk to these motherfuckers. That’s easier. That’s an easier life. You don’t have to sit there and take the slings and arrows."

I honestly believe that Affleck would have given us something great with this Batman film, but now we'll never know. Hopefully, whoever the studio does hire to direct the film has what it takes to follow in the footsteps of Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan. Check out the two videos below and let us know what you think!
