Get a Good Look at Batman's Tactical Suit in JUSTICE LEAGUE

$

0

As we've seen in the trailers, Batman is rocking a different suit in Justice League compared to what he was wearing in Batman Vs. Superman. This "Tactical Suit" as it's being called appears to be heavier than the typical Batman suit, but not as heavy as the metal garb the hero wore when he fought Superman. Personally, I'm glad we won't be seeing that suit return, and I hope it stays buried because it looked awful! It reminded me of that suit the guy wore in that Grizzly documentary!

This new suit looks sweet, though, and like Bruce Wayne runs a company that develops cutting edge technology. DC has released development photos of this new outfit for the new figures they're developing for the film. The left features the traditional bat costume, while the right shows the new suit. You can see the differences between the two suits below. It's subtle, which is better than making your Batman look like a medieval knight in my opinion. What's your take?

Fox Is Interested in a FIREFLY Revival If Joss Whedon Wants to Do It

$

0

Ever since Joss Whedon's Firefly was prematurely canceled there's been a lot of talk regarding a revival or Serenity sequel. At least a couple times a year there's some kind of report about Whedon, Nathan Fillion, and the other actors being asked if it could ever happen.

No one has ever said it won't happen. It's just one of these things where there would have to be a perfect storm of things to happen before there was any kind of movement. Most everyone involved with the original series are keeping busy doing other projects.

With revival series on the rise with series such as The X-Files, Prison Break, Twin Peaks, Full House, Gilmore Girls, and more, it seems like there's more of a chance of seeing a revival for the sci-fi western happening. Fox is definitely keeping an open mind about it, and they are actually open to it!

Fox Broadcasting President of Entertainment David Madden recently talked about it in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes. He told them that he would consider doing it if Whedon wants to do it.

So now it all falls on the shoulders of Whedon, who has been insanely busy the past few years making Avengers films for Marvel. So the big question is... does Whedon want to do it!? If so he better let Fox know! Three years ago, Whedon said:

"I've said repeatedly that I would love to make another movie with these guys, and that remains the case. It also remains the case that I'm booked up by Marvel for the next three years, and that I haven't even been able to get Dr. Horrible 2 off the ground because of that. So I don't even entertain the notion of entertaining the notion of doing this, and won't. Couple years from now, when Nathan [Fillion]'s no longer [on] Castle and I'm no longer the Tom Hagen of the Marvel Universe and making a giant movie, we might look and see where the market is then."

Well, now that he's done with Marvel and Castle isn't on Fillion's plate anymore, maybe something could happen! Firefly could come back as a movie or a limited series, I don't care. Either one would be great! I would just love to see these characters come back together at least one more time for a wild adventure.

Details Revealed for Netflix's CASTLEVANIA Animated Series; It Will Have a GAME OF THRONES Vibe

Yesterday Netflix announced that they will be releasing an animated series adaptation of the hit video game Castlevania later this year. As it turns out, this is indeed the animated project that Adi Shankar (Dredd) and Fred Seibert (Fairly OddParentsAdventure Time) were working on. So, it looks like the R-rated ultra-violent and dark take on the franchise is still in play.

Thanks to Shankar, we now have an official synopsis to share with you offering details on the story, and the producer also offers up some thoughts on what he's got cooking and boldly exclaims that Castlevania "will end the streak and be the western world’s first good video game adaptation." Here's the synopsis:

Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself. The animated series is from Frederator Studios, a Wow! Unlimited Media company, written by best-selling author and comic book icon Warren Ellis and executive produced by Warren Ellis, Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert and Adi Shankar.

Shankar goes on to reveal that there are currently two seasons ready to go and that both of those seasons were written by comic writer Warren Ellis (Thunderbolts, Wolfskin, Red, Fell, Iron Man). Season one will air in 2017, and season two is coming in 2018. Shankar also talked to Collider, and told them that Castlevania "has a Game of Thrones vibe to it." That's got to excite fans a bit! He's already seen the series and says that it's "fucking amazing."

Here's his post from Facebook:

First Look at the New Jaegers in PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING

There's still so much that we don't know about producer Guillermo del Toro and director Steven S. Knight's Pacific Rim: Uprising. Just yesterday we got our first official photo featuring John Boyega, who is playing the son of Idris Elba's character, Stacker Pentecost. We now have a new image to share with you giving us our first look at three new Jaegers that we'll get to see in action!

The art comes from the latest issue of License! Global (Via: Comingsoon). I imagine Boyega, Scott Eastwood, and some of the other characters in the film will be piloting these bad boys, the names of which I'm sure will be revealed in due time.

We don't have any story details for this sequel, but we know that these Jaegers will battle Kaiju. There's also a chance that we'll see a hybrid of the two.

Pacific Rim: Uprising is set to be released on February 23, 2018 and it also stars Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian, Wesley Wong, Lily Ji, Karl Urban, Chen Zitong, Lan Yingying, Qian Yongchen, and Zhang Jin.

The Next HALLOWEEN Movie Will Be Developed by David Gordon Green and Danny McBride

John Carpenter has revealed on Facebook that his Halloween remake will be written and directed by David Gordon Green and Danny McBride, which was completely unexpected! The two talents have collaborated on several mostly comedic projects together including HBO's Eastbound & Down and Pineapple Express. It's really interesting to see that they will be developing the new Halloween movie. Carpenter, who is a producer on the film, said:

“David and Danny both came to my office recently with Jason Blum and shared their vision for the new movie and…WOW. They get it. I think you’re gonna dig it. They blew me away."

It's cool that he's so excited about their pitch. That's saying something. I can't wait to see what exactly their take on Michael Myers will be! Carpenter then went on to confirm that he might score the music, which was previously rumored:

"I might even do the music. Maybe. It could be kind of cool. And you’ll get to see it in theaters on October 19th, 2018.”

Halloween is one of my favorite horror movie franchises, and I'm just glad that Rob Zombie is no longer involved. I hated his take on the iconic horror villain, and so did Carpenter. He's looking to revive the Halloween brand for the fans and previously said:

"38 years after the original Halloween. I’m going to help to try to make the 10th sequel the scariest of them all."

I guess he thinks Green and McBride have what it takes to give horror fans a great and scary new Halloween movie.

Kevin Smith Announces a New JAY AND SILENT BOB Movie Because CLERKS III and MALLRATS 2 Are Seemingly Dead

$

If you are a fan of Jay and Silent Bob, you'll be happy to hear that Kevin Smith is developing a new movie called Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. He even posted a photo of his laptop showing off the title page of the script. He also posted a lengthy announcement. He decided to start working on the movie when Clerks III was canceled and no one is picking up his Mallrats sequel series. I'll let Smith explain the details of how this all came about and he even offers some details on what the story will be about:

"This is not a drill! This is an actual image from my laptop! Yes, Kids - Jay and Silent Bob are coming back! Here's the story: Sadly, Clerks III can't happen (one of our four leads opted out of the flick). So I worked on a #Mallrats movie instead... which also didn't happen because it turned into a #Mallrats series. I've pitched said sequel series to 6 different networks only to find no takers thus far.
"Mind you, I'm not complaining: nobody gets to make EVERYTHING they wanna make in this business (do they?). And I've been lucky to make anything at all, there's so much competition out there, so many much cooler ideas from fresh folks. And besides: I had #comicbookmen and then @tuskthemovie and @yogahosers (which all came together so crazy quickly), and the podcasts and #fatmanonbatman. With all of that, how could I bitch about no Clerks III or Mallrats 2? Then when I started directing @thecw shows, it was such a slice of Heaven on Earth, I happily put my Askewniverse sequels to the side.
"Since I sold #Clerks and #Mallrats years ago, they're owned by others, which limits my moves with my own material. I don't mind: back in the day, all I ever wanted to do was sell my stuff so I could be in the movie biz in the first place. So I don't own Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy or #Dogma... But I DO own #jayandsilentbob.
"So while I love playing with someone else's new toys on @cwtheflash and @Supergirl, I'm getting eager to play with my old toys again in the inter-connected View Askewniverse I spent the first half of my career creating. And so all last month, I had the time of my life laughing while writing "Jay and Silent Bob Reboot" - a fun flick in which the Jersey boys have to go back to Hollywood to stop a brand new reboot of the old "Bluntman & Chronic Movie" they hated so much.
"It's a tongue-in-cheek, silly-ass satire that pokes fun at the movie business's recent re-do obsession, featuring an all-star cast of cameos and familiar faces! And I already met with the good folks at Miramax and they're into it, so I'm hoping we'll be shooting in the summer! Never give up, kids. You CAN do anything you want in life, so long as you're patient and malleable. #KevinSmith"

I have no doubt that Smith is going to have a blast making this movie. I've always liked the Jay and Silent Bob characters, and it will be fun to see them get their own movie again. I also like the fact that the movie will poke fun at Hollywood for its obsession with remakes.

It sucks that nothing is happening with Clerks III and Mallrats 2 because I was really excited about those. It's a shame they had to die, but Smith has obviously found excitement and passion in developing this new project.

Are you excited to hear that Smith is making a new Jay and Silent Bob film?

Netflix's BUDDY THUNDERSTRUCK Looks Like a Stop-Motion TALLADEGA NIGHTS Mixed with THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX

$

Netflix is releasing such an overwhelming amount of original content these days that it's soon going to become impossible to keep up with all of it. Their latest original series is called Buddy Thunderstruck, which centers on a dog who's a professional semi-truck racer. Considering it's a stop-motion series involving furry animals, the comparisons to Wes Anderson's The Fantastic Mr. Fox are certainly going to pop up, and the second you see the swagger and attitude the lead character has, it's going to be tough to get Will Ferrell's cocksure Ricky Bobby from Talladega Nights out of your head, too.

Bizarrely, this show hails from the creators of Care Bears and the animation studio that makes Robot Chicken. (What a combo.) This one's clearly geared toward a younger crowd, and its first season drops on Netflix on March 10, 2017.

When DREDD 2 Happens It Will Be As an Animated Movie

$

For anyone hoping for that Dredd sequel to happen, producer Adi Shankar thinks that one day it will happen. He's going to make sure that it happens, but he makes a point of saying that it may not be a live-action project.

It's kind of a bummer that Dredd bombed at the box office and that it's been impossible to get a sequel rolling. It was such a great movie that was an awesome adaptation of the character. It sucks when great movies like this, with totally committed actors like Karl Urban, bomb.

When talking with Collider recently, Shankar offers the following statement regarding Dredd 2:

"If anyone is still wondering, there’s no update on a Dredd sequel, but I’m gonna make it happen at some point. It may not be live-action, but it’s going to happen at some point. There will be more Judge Dredd at some point."

I'm happy to hear that Shankar is determined to make this sequel happen! I wish that he would have been able to produce a live-action sequel with Urban and Olivia Thirlby, but it sounds like this time around it will be animated. As a fan, I'll take what I can get.

Shankar already made an animated Judge Dredd web-series called Judge Dredd: Superfiend, which you can watch here. It's really crude animation work, but it's still entertaining. I do hope that when he moves forward this project it's higher quality work. He goes on to say that he has no plans on continuing that Superfiend series. He also teases another project that that team is working on that is going to piss some rights-holders off:

"I’m not going to continue with Judge Dredd: Superfiend. In fact, the guys I partnered with on Superfiend are going to release an 85-minute project this year based on a superhero that everyone on the planet knows. Rights-holders are going to be very pissed.

"It’s great. I love it. Sometimes you work with them officially, like Konami, you make Castlevania and it’s the real thing. Then sometimes you just go off on your own and say, 'You know what? Fuck it. We’re just making our own thing. This is how I look at it: This genre stuff, it doesn’t have to be schlock. There needs to be a point of view and a purpose to everything. These characters that are so ingrained in our culture, since we’re so divided as a species now, the one unifying thing is, Well, everyone knows Batman, so if you want to get a message across, use Batman to do it.'"

What do you all think about Shankar moving forward with a Dredd sequel as an animated film that will most likely be like his other "bootleg" productions?

Screenwriter Nicole Perlman Explains the Challenges of Writing CAPTAIN MARVEL

$

It has been almost three years since the project was originally announced, but it looks like Captain Marvel is finally getting on its way. Screenwriter Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) told the Great Big Beautiful Podcast, “Meg [LeFauve] and I were hired a long time ago but we didn’t have our marching orders until recently.” They were hired two years ago, so it’s interesting that they didn’t receive the go ahead on the project — which has already been pushed back twice — for so long.

Perlman was very open about the challenges of writing the script: figuring out Captain Marvel’s place in the MCU, keeping the story fresh after so many Marvel heroes have already hit the big screen, and the pressures of Marvel’s first female headliner. Perlman explained:

"Marvel is a little bit of a house of cards in a sense that everything influences everything around it even if it's very modular. Figuring out where the story fits in the MCU influences things as well…
"She’s an incredible character, but I will also say that since Marvel has done so many movies already, you really have to go out of your way to make sure her story is fresh and doesn’t borrow too heavily from the other films. She’s an incredibly strong and wonderful hero, but all the Marvel characters are. So you just need to figure out how to bring her to life in a way that's unique to her story but in a way that honors the canon and also gearing out the roles that she needs to play with everything that’s going on in the MCU."

Perlman contrasted that with her work on Guardians of the Galaxy, which was so removed from the rest of the MCU that anything went. Captain Marvel is a bit more of a puzzle. And the first female superhero movie thing adds an extra layer of scrutiny to the project:

"I think theres a tendency to have that back-and-forth conversation of, 'Should it affect the story at all?' or 'Should it affect the writing?' There are certain tropes you can get away [with not] having to examine too much if you’re not writing the first female Marvel Studios lead; that could be read into a lot or that could diminish her own proactivity, strength and independence. There are things you wouldn’t think twice about Iron Man but you would think twice about for Captain Marvel."

Other than the hiring of Perlman and LeFauve, the only other movement on the project has been the announcement that Brie Larson will play the titular heroine. No director has been hired yet, although there are rumors about Marvel’s shortlist. Hopefully, the movie is still on track for its current March 8, 2019 release date. It was originally slated for July 6, 2018.

3 New Promo Spots for LOGAN Show More X-23 and Wolverine Action

$

0

Three new TV spots have surfaced for Logan, and one of them includes a bit of new footage of X-23 fighting alongside Wolverine. This kid is one crazy and deadly mutant you don't want to piss off. I love what they've done with the X-23 character for this movie! Her look, her attitude, her fighting skills... she's just a badass. My youngest daughter recently told me she wants to be X-23 for Halloween, which I think is awesome! She actually kinda looks like X-23. I might as well grow my hair and beard out and be Wolverine!

I'm just excited for this movie! I really hope that it turns out to be as amazing as the trailers make it out to be. It looks like Hugh Jackman gives an amazing performance. How cool would it be if he actually got a best actor nomination at the Oscars next year?! Judging from what I've seen so far, it could be a possibility. We'll just have to wait and see.

Logan is set to hit theaters on March 3rd.

In 2024 the mutant population has shrunk significantly and the X-Men have disbanded. Logan, whose power to self-heal is dwindling, has surrendered himself to alcohol and now earns a living as a chauffeur. He takes care of the ailing old Professor X whom he keeps hidden away. One day, a female stranger asks Logan to drive a girl named Laura to the Canadian border. At first he refuses, but the Professor has been waiting for a long time for her to appear. Laura possesses an extraordinary fighting prowess and is in many ways like Wolverine. She is pursued by sinister figures working for a powerful corporation; this is because her DNA contains the secret that connects her to Logan. A relentless pursuit begins … In this third cinematic outing featuring the Marvel comic book character Wolverine we see the superheroes beset by everyday problems. They are aging, ailing and struggling to survive financially. A decrepit Logan is forced to ask himself if he can or even wants to put his remaining powers to good use. It would appear that in the near-future, the times in which they were able to put the world to rights with razor sharp claws and telepathic powers are now over.

Wait, Coolio Almost Played Scarecrow in a Batman Movie?

$

Here's something that will blow your Bat-minds: Coolio — yes, he of "Gangsta's Paradise" fame — apparently came very close to playing Scarecrow in a Joel Schumacher-directed Batman movie.

Speaking with a local Texas newspaper called the Burleson Star, the rapper revealed that the only reason he appeared in Batman & Robin as the "Banker" was because Schumacher promised him the villain role in Batman Triumphant, the sequel that Schumacher would have directed if Batman & Robin became the success the studio was hoping for. But as we all know, the movie ended up being terrible, and it put the entire Bat-franchise on ice for years until Christopher Nolan came along and rebooted it in 2005.

“He was supposed to do the two next ones. He and I didn’t get along that good anyway—I mean he made a terrible Batman movie. But the next villain was supposed to be the Scarecrow. They didn’t do it though. Maybe one day. I’m sure they won’t come calling, though.”

It's also worth noting that Nic Cage has gone on the record saying that Schumacher had spoken to him about possibly playing Scarecrow in that movie, but I suppose the director could have been having conversations with multiple people about the role around that time. Coolio never got his shot, but maybe he could voice the character in a LEGO Batman Movie sequel? Billy Dee Williams is finally voicing Two-Face after being promised the role years ago, so why not extend the same courtesy to Coolio?

The R-Rating of Stephen King's IT Explained and New Photos of The Losers Club

$
0
0

The big screen adaptation of Stephen King's It has been confirmed to be rated R. For any of you who have read the book, this rating shouldn't come as a surprise. The book is insanely jacked-up, and we've heard time and time again that this new movie would be a more proper adaptation than the TV movie made back in the '90s. That was a very watered down version of the story, but it was still great! The one thing that TV version had that this one doesn't is Tim Curry as Pennywise the Clown.

During an interview with Collider, producer Dan Lin talked about the rating of the film and also says that it has a Stand By Me vibe:

"It is a rated-R movie. If you’re going to make a 'Rated-R movie', you have to fully embrace what it is, and you have to embrace the source material. It is a scary clown that’s trying to kill kids. So of course that’s going to be a rated-R movie. The kids are amazing. You very much get a Stand by Me vibe as far as their camaraderie and the way they joke with each other and that they really care for each other. They do have a scary crown that’s taken over the town of Derry, so it’s going to be rated R."

There are a few things that happen in the book that are pretty hardcore and would be considered controversial to see in a film. I'd be shocked if they put some of the things in there. At one point in the book, all of the boys in The Losers Club take turns having sex with Beverly. It's explained:

When the Losers' travel into the sewer with the intent of destroying It, they momentarily find themselves hopelessly trapped. As the boys start to panic, Beverly comes up with the idea of having sex with the others in order to calm them down, as a result the other Losers take turns having sex with her. Because King didn't wish this to be viewed as a lewd scene, the narrative explicitly states that the act of intimacy with each of the boys' helps to further strengthen their friendship; and Beverly only experiences orgasm while having intercourse with Bill Denbrough and Ben Hanscom.

That's one of the scenes that I would be shocked to see in the movie. When it comes to the R-rating, I'm sure it's all going to be for the horror, blood, violence, and language aspect of the story. I also included new behind-the-scenes photos of The Losers Club.

The film is based on the novel by Stephen King, whose story recalls a promise made 28 years ago that forces seven adults to reunite in Derry, Maine, where as teenagers they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children. Unsure that their Losers Club had vanquished the creature all those years ago, the seven had vowed to return to Derry if IT should ever reappear. Now, children are being murdered again and their repressed memories of that summer return as they prepare to do battle with the monster lurking in Derry’s sewers once more.

The film is being released in two parts. The first one is set in the 1980s and will focus on the "Losers Club" as they come together to battle It. The second film is set 30 years later in modern times when the monster returns and the group of friends are forced to come back together to destroy It once and for all.

The movie stars Jaeden Lieberher (Midnight Special) as Bill Denbrough, Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) as Richie Tozier, newcomer Sophia Lillis as Beverly Marsh, Jack Dylan Grazer (Tales of Halloween) as Stan Uris, Wyatt Oleff (Guardians of the Galaxy) as Eddie Kaspbrak, Chosen Jacobs (Hawaii Five-0) as Mike Hanlon, and Jeremy Ray Taylor (42) as Ben Hanscom.

The first film is set to be released on September 8th, 2017.

Mark Hamill Voices The Joker Again in New Clip From JUSTICE LEAGUE ACTION

Mark Hamill is back in action as Joker in a DC animated series! That said, his portrayal in Justice League Action will be nowhere near as dark as it was in Batman: The Killing Joke. Overall, Justice League Action appears to be a show geared towards much younger children than the typical DC show shoots for, but it still looks very fun! Maybe not so fun that I'll try to watch it unless there's a kid around, but fun enough that I won't mind said kid watching it when I'm in the room. Hear Hamill cracking jokes in the clip below. Justice League Action airs Saturday mornings on Cartoon Network.
