STAR WARS Character Tees Are Out of this World

Being the super Star Wars fan that I am, I was blown away when I saw these sweet character t-shirts from Wicked Clothes and felt the urge to share. Choose from Chewbacca, R2-D2, Darth Vader or Rebel Pilot.

Here is a description of the shirts:

These shirts are printed using a technique called belt printing. Because the print goes over seams and also due to the size of the print each shirt has some small differences and small spots where ink may be missing.

There are MANY more designs available at 80sTees!

Check them out and tell us which one you would like to have:

THE HOBBIT Video Blog #9 - Post-Production Awesomeness

Peter Jackson has released yet another production blog for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. This is the ninth video blog that Jackson has released, and it features some of the behind-the-scenes post-production wizardry currently going on in trying to get this film completed in time for it's big premiere. Not only does the video include interviews with Jackson and the crew of the film, but it also has some cool looking new footage from the film featuring the Trolls talking, extended fight scenes, and more!

The movie is scheduled to be released in less than a month on December 14th! It would be so cool for anyone to work on a film as epic and as legendary as The Hobbit.

"The Hobbit" follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever... Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum's "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities... A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

Menacing Stormtrooper Samurai - Custom Munny

This one-of-a-kind Stormtrooper Samurai is a custom design made by French graphic designers Guillaume and Julia Lachambre. A Samurai/Stormtrooper mash-up isn't a completely new twist on the Imperial soldiers, we've seen some cool Star Wars samurai cosplay before. But all of the other takes on this concept lean a little too far into the traditional Japanese aesthetics to ever truly fit into the Star Wars universe. However, the design for  this custom Munny would fit in perfectly! Provided he didn't have the toddler-proportions of a Munny, this would be one mean character!

In my head, I imagine that his sword is more powerful than a traditional Lightsaber -- just like how the construction of Samurai swords are far superior to other swords -- that would just slice a standard Lightsaber in half. It would be cool if his armor actually, ya know... worked, too. Now THAT would be a Stormtrooper that you wouldn't wanna mess with.

Here's a small collection of geek art from Carlos Lerma a.k.a "Lerms." I just love the color in these pieces!  Even with all of the exaggerated features, Lerms' use of color has added some good weight to the characters. There's not a ton of action going on in some of the pieces but they all just feel exciting, especially the Drive art above. The Indiana Jones poster doesn't do it for me as much, but ya can't leave Indy out... even if he does look like Daniel Craig.

Awesome CG Animated Monster Movie Short MUTANT LAND

Here's an extremely entertaining CG animated monster short film called Mutant Land from director Phil Tippett. The CG animation is done really well, and I love the visual style and creature designs. There's really not much of a story, but it introduces us to a crazy post-apocalyptic mutant world in which creatures must fight for their survival.

Here's a short synopsis for the movie:

As the sun goes down in the dark and terrifying place that is Mutant Land, the creatures roaming this world are on the ultimate search for food.

It's a fun and wild ride, so enjoy it!

Tom Cruise In New Photos From ALL YOU NEED IS KILL

Earlier we shared the first look at Tom Cruise from All You Need is Kill, and now we have some more photos of Cruise in Military dress. Doug Liman directs this adaptation of Hiroshi Sakurazaka's novel about a soldier in a war against aliens who finds himself reliving his last day in the battle over and over again after being killed. This allows him to become a better soldier, and is basically the sci-fi version of Groundhog Day. The movie also stars Emily Blunt and Bill Paxton, and arrives in theaters on March 7. 2014.

Official Synopsis:

The story unfolds in a near future in which a hive-like alien race, called Mimics, have hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, shredding great cities to rubble and leaving millions of human casualties in their wake. No army in the world can match the speed, brutality or seeming prescience of the weaponized Mimic fighters or their telepathic commanders. But now the world’s armies have joined forces for a last stand offensive against the alien horde, with no second chances.

Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously demoted and then dropped—untrained and ill-equipped—into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. Cage is killed within minutes, managing to take an Alpha down with him. But, impossibly, he awakens back at the beginning of the same hellish day, and is forced to fight and die again…and again. Direct physical contact with the alien has thrown him into a time loop—dooming him to live out the same brutal combat over and over.

But with each pass, Cage becomes tougher, smarter, and able to engage the Mimics with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt), who has lain waste to more Mimics than anyone on Earth. As Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated battle becomes an opportunity to find the key to annihilating the alien invaders and saving the Earth.

Peter Jackson and Martin Freeman Talk THE HOBBIT

$

The Hobbit is less than a month a way, so be prepared for an onslaught of promotion. Last week we shared the latest production blog from The Hobbit, and now we have an interview with Peter Jackson and Martin Freeman thanks to Total Film.

Here is what Jackson had to say about Bilbo Baggins' (Freeman) character in the film:

"He really wants to be left alone, to put his feet up in front of a fire. And then suddenly he’s dragged off on an adventure. So there’s a lot of comedic opportunities. But you want to feel the truth of those moments. You don’t want them to be played just for laughs. When he’s holding the sword and faced with a troll, you want the sense of danger, and Martin’s brilliant at juggling the tone, that ability to have one foot in the dramatic world and one in the comedic world."

As you may recall, the films were initially planned as only two films instead of three. In an earlier interview Freeman said that he didn't feel a lot of pressure playing the hero in such a highly anticipated film series. Here is what he had to say now:

"It’s not really daunting. It is unexpected compared to where we were, but it’s the same thing of telling the story and doing your bit, whether it’s one or two or three films. There’s just, you know, more of it! But there are so many of us involved, it doesn’t really hang on anyone’s shoulders."

Synopsis:

"The Hobbit" follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild. A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey arrives on December 14th; The Desolation Of Smaug will arrive December 13th, 2013; There And Back Again is scheduled to be released July 18th, 2014.

THE GOONIES and THE HOBBIT Mashup Video

Lance Ford has created the mashup video to end all mashup videos. He has combined two of the geekiest fandom movies together, The Hobbit and The Goonies. Beware; this video is geekgasmic!

Here is the description:

One of my favorite movies as a kid was The Goonies. The Lord Of the Rings movies have been some of my favorite as an adult. Based on the previous two sentences, I'm obviously a nerd, so I decided that in honor of the Hobbit being released that I would make this trailer mashup. I used footage from the Goonies and mashed it with  the audio from the initial trailer to The Hobbit. Please enjoy!

MASS EFFECT: Where Does Shepard Get Those Wonderful Toys?

I know I'm mixing movies a bit there, but it was such a good headline. Deviant Art user Syarawi (real name Azlan Syarawi) has put together this sweet render of a Mass Effect tumbler (of Dark Knight fame), and man do I wish this was actually in the game.

The Mako missions from the first Mass Effect were loved or hated (I fell into the latter group), not because the premise wasn't good but because the Mako itself handled terribly and they had you driving around for 20 minutes at a a time looking for small piles of minerals. Spread several of those out over a large area and that equals up to a not so fun time. While the sequels had several small vehicle sections, they are nothing compared to the prospect of driving this thing around. Props to Azlan for the great work he did on the painting and reflections on the tumbler itself. On top of that the background looks straight out of the Mass Effect universe. If you like what you see then catch his other stuff here, and make sure to let him know if you dig it.

New IRON MAN 3 Photos Featuring Tony Stark and Iron Patriot

Here's a couple new photos from Iron Man 3 featuring Tony Stark and Iron Patriot. There's nothing mindblowingly crazy about them, but they are still cool to see, especially if you're looking forward to the movie. The images are scanned from the new issue of Empire Magazine which has a lot of great stuff from many of the upcoming Marvel movies. We've posted a few of those things today already.

You can read about Iron Man 3 not being as serious as it looks here, and some new details Kevin Feige gave about about the film here. One of the things that Feige also addresses is Stark's Mark XLVII armor saying that, "Logic would dictate that it would be the Mark VIII, but we've already talked about taking risks, so logic may not apply!!"

Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

The movie comes out on May 3rd, 2013, and I honestly think it's going to be better than what we're expecting.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE - Arena Scenes Shot in IMAX

One day a full feature length non-documentary film will be shot entirely in IMAX, but until that day we just have to enjoy the little scenes from films that have included IMAX greatness such as The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Director Francis Lawrence is shooting parts of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire in IMAX as well, but until now we had no idea what scenes would be shot in the epic format.

Josh Hutcherson recently talked to MTV about the film, and in it he revealed what scenes we can expect to see in IMAX. Those scenes include everything that takes place in the arena, which is awesome! That will put audiences right into the action. Here's what he had to say,

They're shooting, I think, all the stuff in the arena is going to be IMAX. So when you go see it in IMAX, you'll see the regular movie when we're in the Districts and in the Capitol. When you see us go up in the pod in the games, it will open up into IMAX. It will be amazing. It's very cool.

That does sound like it will be awesome. I'm a huge fan and supporter of IMAX filmmaking. It's so engulfing, I definitely prefer it over 3D. I wish more money would be pumped into IMAX than 3D, but we live with what we have, and make the best of it. I liked the first Hunger Games movie, and I hope this one turns out better.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour' of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever.

The movie also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones, Woody Harrelson, Jena Malone, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amanda Plummer, Lynn Cohen, Patrick St. Esprit, Meta Golding, Bruno Gunn, Alan Ritchson, E. Roger Mitchell, Maria Howell, Stephanie Leigh Schlund, Sam Claflin and Jeffrey Wright.

The movie will be released in theaters and IMAX on November 22nd, 2013.

GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES To Get Live-Action Adaptation

$

0

Akiyuki Nosaka's autobiographical novel, Grave of the Fireflies, is set to get another live-action feature film adaptation. It tells a story of survival in the wake of the firebombing of Kobe in 1945. It was already adapted once as a beautiful made Japanese animated film in 1988. The must watch movie was produced by Studio Ghibli, and directed by Isao Takahata. There was also a live-action Japanese version of the story made in 2005, but this new version will be more of a mainstream type of movie.

The story centers on two orphaned children, 14 year-old Seita and his four year-old sister Setsuko, struggling to survive in the wake of the Kobe bombings during WWII. It's an incredibly sad and depressing story, if you've seen the movies or read the book then you know what I mean. At the same time it's a very humanist touching story, one that needs to be told. It also gives outsiders some insight on how those bombings affected Japan. The bombings targeted military targets including arms and munitions plants, which happened to be in the middle of crowded population centers, leaving hundreds of thousands of people dead.

Nosaka wrote Grave of the Fireflies as a personal apology to his sister regarding her death and was awarded the Naoki Prize for best popular literature.

The film project is set up as Dresden Pictures, and the plan is to get it into production in 2014. I have no issues at all with this movie getting remade. It's such a powerful story, and the more people that see it the better. Hopefully it ends up being a great film. Roger Ebert considers the animated version of the film to be one of the greatest and most powerful war films ever made, and once you've seen it for yourself, it's hard to disagree.

Cory and Topanga Return in GIRL MEETS WORLD

Fans of Boy Meets World, here's something to get excited about: Cory and Topanga are back.

TV Line reports that Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel, who played the iconic couple of Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence on the seminal 90s television series Boy Meets World, have signed on to reprise their roles on the Disney Channel's sequel series, Girl Meets World. Instead of being told through Cory's perspective, as the previous show was, audiences will see Girl Meets World through the eyes of Riley Matthews, the 13-year-old daughter of Cory and Topanga. That role has yet to be filled, but a nationwide search is reportedly underway.

Savage and Fishel's return is great news for fans who may have been a bit skeptical about the announcement of this new series. With the advancement of technology, shows like Home Improvement and Boy Meets World that had a sort of home-grown aspect to family values have become a thing of the past, a relic of a simpler time.

Michael Jacobs, the executive producer of Boy Meets World, is also coming back for this new incarnation, and his involvement is arguably as important as that of Savage and Fishel for the stability of the series. This will be on the Disney Channel, famous for Hannah Montana and other kid-friendly titles that didn't necessarily have the same "realness" found on ABC's Boy Meets World. But with Jacobs and this cast signed on, this show could have a chance to recapture the greatness that the original series brought to millions of people each week.

Plus, now that Cory and Topanga are back, who knows? The door is open for returns of Rider Strong's Shawn Hunter character and maybe even Adam Scott as Griff in a tiny cameo. Personally, I'm hoping for some William Daniels and Will Friedle buddy-antics as Mr. Feeny and Eric Matthews, but I've heard Friedle mostly sticks to voice work these days so we'll see if that comes to fruition. Either way, this is an exciting time for Boy Meets World fans who were sad to see the series end back in 2000.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Official Synopsis Released

$

Paramount Pictures has released the official synopsis for J.J. Abrams' highly anticipated film Star Trek Into Darkness. We finally have a few little details about where we can expect to see the story go in the film! Here it is...

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Sounds like it will be yet another awesome Star Trek film! It also, in a way, hints that the villain in the sequel is Gary Mitchell, as previously revealed by Karl Urban. The phrase, "A personal score to settle" and a "a one man weapon of mass destruction" are a couple little tip offs. In the original series Mitchell is a friend of Captain Kirk, and a Starfleet officer on the U.S.S. Enterprise. He ends up with powerful telekinetic powers, and turns against Kirk and his crew.

The crew of the enterprise will once again embark in an adventure into the unknown on On May 17th, 2013. The movie stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Benedict Cumberbatch, Peter Weller and Alice Eve.

Don't forget, Paramount will be showing off the first 9 minutes of the film exclusively in IMAX 3D on December 14th in front of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Here's a little bit of Star Trek trivia for you to chew on, 26 years ago today Star Trek: The Voyage Home opened in theaters on November 26th, 1986.

Trailer for THE BAYTOWN OUTLAWS with Billy Bob Thornton

Phase 4 Films has released the first trailer for their new action comedy The Baytown Outlaws, which stars Billy Bob Thornton, Eva Longoria, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Clayne Crawford, Paul Wesley and Andre Braugher. Thornton must be hurtin' for cash to make a movie like this. I can see the potential in it, but it just doesn't look very good or interesting to me at all.

Synopsis:

After her ex-husband (Thornton) shoots Celeste (Longoria) three times in the gut and kidnaps her godson, it's time to play dirty. She hires three outlawed, redneck brothers to bring him back to her. What begins as a small rescue mission rises to a Southern battle royale.

The movie will be released on VOD December 4th and then hits theaters in January 2013.
