Watch Winona Ryder Be Confused To The STRANGER THINGS Theme

We're a couple days out and still have no answers as to what the hell was going on with Winona Ryder during the SAG awards speech. For that reason, I'm going to contribute to the memeing until we get a solid answer as to what was going on during what was otherwise a powerful speech.

I remember thinking when watching the video that her reactions would sync up well to the theme to Stranger Things, and someone beat me to the punch! Check out the video below. What's your guess as to what was going on in her head? Was it drugs or something else?

Details Revealed on What Happened to Lando Calrissian After RETURN OF THE JEDI

I'm sure many of you have wondered what happened to Lando Calrissian after he blew up Death Star II in Return of the Jedi. Well, a new Star Wars novel called Aftermath: Empire’s End offers up some information on that. This is the final book in the Aftermath trilogy that offers up details on what happened between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

Before we get into some o the details in the book, here's the synopsis for Aftermath: Empire’s End:

As the final showdown between the New Republic and the Empire draws near, all eyes turn to a once-isolated planet: Jakku.
The Battle of Endor shattered the Empire, scattering its remaining forces across the galaxy. But the months following the Rebellion’s victory have not been easy. The fledgling New Republic has suffered a devastating attack from the Imperial remnant, forcing the new democracy to escalate their hunt for the hidden enemy.
For her role in the deadly ambush, Grand Admiral Rae Sloane is the most wanted Imperial war criminal—and one-time rebel pilot Norra Wexley, back in service at Leia’s urgent request, is leading the hunt. But more than just loyalty to the New Republic drives Norra forward: Her husband was turned into a murderous pawn in Sloane’s assassination plot, and now she wants vengeance as much as justice.
But Sloane, too, is on a furious quest: pursuing the treacherous Gallius Rax to the barren planet Jakku. As the true mastermind behind the Empire’s devastating attack, Rax has led the Empire to its defining moment. The cunning strategist has gathered the powerful remnants of the Empire’s war machine, preparing to execute the late Emperor Palpatine’s final plan. As the Imperial fleet orbits Jakku, an armada of Republic fighters closes in to finish what began at Endor. Norra and her crew soar into the heart of an apocalyptic clash that will leave land and sky alike scorched. And the future of the galaxy will finally be decided.

Thanks to io9, we can also read a long excerpt from the book that reveals that Calrissian returns to Cloud City for the first time since he left with Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, and Chewbacca to help rescue Han from Jabba the Hutt after he was frozen in carbonite.

After Calrissian left, the Empire took control of the city and left it in shambles. Here's what Calrissian finds when he returns:

“Lobot, we’re home.” Lando lifts a dubious eyebrow as he looks around, exasperated. “Guess the Empire didn’t keep up with housekeeping.”

This is the Casino level. Game machines line the smooth blue alactite floors far as the eye can see. Sabacc tables, too. And pazaak. And jubilee wheels. Along the far wall are banks of holoprojectors meant to show the latest swoop race down on the track-tubes piped through Bespin’s toxic Red Zone atmosphere. Once, this was a shining pillar of gambling excess: classy and bright with light coming in through windows looking out over the sun-kissed clouds. Now it’s wrecked. Trash drifts and tumbles. Machines have been turned over, their credits cut from inside like food from a beast’s belly. The windows are covered over with metal. The holoprojectors are dark.

The book goes on to explain that Calrissian had to pick a side between the Rebellion and the Empire, and his choice obviously paid off. It goes on to talk about what he imagined life would be like after the battle of Endor, but reality turned out quite differently:

It paid off. The Empire is gone. And now he’s a hero of the Rebellion (and oh, you can be sure he used that to con more than his fair share of free drinks, not to mention the attention of beautiful admirers). But all he wants is his city back. After Endor, he thought he would just be able to sweep in here like a handsome king retaking his throne in the sky—but then that son-of-a-slug Governor Adelhard formed the Iron Blockade. He kept the people here trapped not only by a well-organized Imperial remnant, but also by a grand lie: that Palpatine was not dead. And Lando knows that old shriveled cenobite is dead—because he’s the one who took out the Death Star’s reactor core. And because Luke said the monster was dead. Can you believe it? Palpatine and Vader. Both gone. Two scourges, scoured from the galaxy.

Suddenly he had a second war to fight. Here he thought the Empire was done for and Cloud City was once again his. What an eager fool. Nothing’s ever that simple, is it? It took months and months. He had to stage an uprising. Had to interface with Lobot on the inside. Had to cash in favors with a handful of scoundrels—like Kars Tal-Korla, that pirate. All because the New Republic wouldn’t commit a military action to retaking the city. He respects it, he understands it, and Leia put it best when she said, “The Rebellion was easy, Lando. Governing’s harder.”

There's not much more information on that but I'm sure that we'll learn more about how Calrissian's work on Cloud City will tie into the big story or how it connects to the Battle of Jakku, but we'll find out in the full book. You can read a lot more of the excerpt on io9, which also includes a little reference to Leia about to give birth to Ben Solo, who eventually turns to the dark side and becomes Kylo Ren.

Like many of you, I'm a big fan of Lando Calrissian so it's cool that we'll finally get to learn about his place in the continuing Star Wars saga. Aftermath: Empire's End is set to be released on February 21.

Video: Here's How DOCTOR STRANGE Should Have Ended

Doctor Strange has one of the best final acts of any comic book movie ever made. (It's not quite The Avengers, but it's up there.) The climactic battle as the city reverses time and rebuilds itself is an innovative and thrilling set piece, and Strange's confrontation with Dormammu (both characters played by Benedict Cumberbatch) works both as a character moment for Strange and as a wickedly funny comedic encounter.

Now the team from How It Should Have Ended has put their own comedic spin on the Marvel movie, and there are some pretty excellent moments in here. Check it out, and don't forget to stick around for a post-credits scene involving Thanos:

STRANGER THINGS 2 Will Open Up the World in a Completely New Way

Stranger Things season two can't get here soon enough! I just want to see what happens next with these characters. We know the story is set a year after the events of the first season and things are going to get crazy, but the details are still a mystery. All we have at this point is a bunch of cool information that we get to speculate about. We have more of that kind of information to add to the discussion today.

In a recent interview with Vanity FairDavid Harbour, who plays Jim Hooper in the series, talks about reading the script for the first time, his excitement for Season 2, and teases what we can expect to see from it.

"I got the first script of season two, and the first five minutes I was on my feet going, ‘Yes! Yes!’ Because they open up the world in such a new way. And these characters that I feel like are so iconic, and that we love so deeply, get to really go on different arcs and different journeys and explore these little things that we touched on in their personalities and psychologies. And we get to really expand on that… I really do think it’s going to be thrilling. And you can tweet at me that I’m an idiot if it’s not."

Harbour recently has gotten a lot of attention from his rousing SAG Awards speech in which he vowed to "shelter freaks and outcasts," "hunt monsters," and "punch some people in the face." When previously talking about the upcoming season, the actor said:

“It’s a year later in the story, so there are several things that happened last year, like Will has come back. There are certain people in the town that know what happened, and then certain people that don’t know what happened. So there’s a lot of fall out with who knows what.”

Stranger Things season two will be back before we know it! I think I'm going to have to plan a big party for this one!

Mark Hamill Defends Jake Lloyd and the STAR WARS Prequels

The loyalty is strong with this one. In an interview with VultureMark Hamill went to bat for the Star Wars prequels, and more specifically, defended some of the harsh criticisms of Jake Lloyd, who starred as a young Anakin Skywalker in The Phantom Menace:

I couldn’t believe some of the things they wrote about the prequels, you know. I mean really, beyond ‘I didn’t like it.' 'You ruined my childhood!' I’m still angry about the way they treated Jake Lloyd. He was only ten years old, that boy, and he did exactly what George wanted him to do. Believe me, I understand clunky dialogue.
I almost got hornswaggled into that documentary. They weren't calling it The People vs. George Lucas at the time, but I could tell from the questions they were asking me, it was an open invitation to trash George. And I have issues with George, but I love that man. I would never — and I don't talk outside the family. It's just brutal.

The prequels have practically been beaten to death at this point, so there's no need for me to pile on further right now. I'll just say that Hamill's loyalty is admirable, and these comments show that he's a stand-up guy. It'd be really easy to bash those movies (and Jake Lloyd's performance...which was awful, even if he was just ten years old), but Hamill took the high road, and you've gotta respect that.

"I died once, I won't die again."

If you are a fan of The Raid films, you're going to like what this new action film Headshot has to offer. I've got a wickedly badass new trailer for you to watch today, and it features The Raid's Iko Uwais going completely ballistic on bad guys as he seeks revenge against his father who apparently tried to have him killed. This movie looks like it's going to be full of some insane fight and action sequences. This film should tide us over until The Raid 3 eventually happens. Here's the synopsis:

HEADSHOT centers on a mysterious young man who, after months in a coma from a gunshot wound to the head, is nursed back to health by a young student-doctor, Ailin. Realizing that the man has lost his memory and identity, the two quickly grow closer, not realizing that behind their momentary peace lays danger. Soon their lives collide with a gang of dangerous criminals led by an enigmatic crime lord—and with every violent confrontation, his memory brings him closer to a dark truth as the lethal personality awakening within him starts to reveal who he really is.

Headshot hits U.S. theaters and VOD on March 3rd.

See GAME OF THRONES' The Mountain Shockingly Lose an Arm Wrestling Match

Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, the 28-year-old actor who's played Cersei Lannister's hulking bodyguard "The Mountain" on Game of Thrones for the past few years, is one of the strongest men in the world. You've probably seen videos of his feats of strength make their way across the internet, but here's something I never thought I'd see: Björnsson in a shocking loss in an arm wrestling competition.

Granted, his opponent does happen to be two-time World Arm Wrestling League champion Devon Larratt, but considering the height and weight differential between these two guys (the specs appear in the video), I still would have put money on The Mountain to take it down. But it appears that while Björnsson may be stronger overall, specialization has its advantages. Now Larratt will be able to put "bested The Mountain in arm wrestling" in his bio, and that's priceless.

Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn to Star in DRAGGED ACROSS CONCRETE From the Director of BONE TOMAHAWK

If you haven't seen the film Bone Tomahawk yet, do yourself a favor and watch it because that film is incredible. It was written and directed by S. Craig Zahler, who has a new film project he;s working on called Dragged Across Concrete, and he has enlisted Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn to star in the movie! Hell yeah, I'm excited! Just wait until you find out what the story is about!

This is a very talented team of individuals coming together to make a gritty crime thriller. The story "centers on two policemen, one an old-timer (Gibson), the other his volatile younger partner (Vaughn), who find themselves suspended when a video of their strong-arm tactics become the media's cause du jour. Low on cash and with no other options, these two embittered soldiers descend into the criminal underworld to gain their just due, but instead find far more than they wanted awaiting them in the shadows."

This sounds like it's gonna be an awesome film, and knowing it's from the mind of Zahler, I'm expecting some great things. The fact that Gibson and Vaughn are involved is just an exciting bonus. The two actors recently worked together on the Academy Award-nominated film Hacksaw Ridge. This time they'll get to share some intense screen time with each other.

Vaughn also recently worked with Zahler on his upcoming film Brawl in Cell Block 99, which is a prison drama that completed shooting last year.

KONG: SKULL ISLAND Gets an Awesome APOCALYPSE NOW Style Movie Poster

kong-skull-island-gets-an-awesome-apocalypse-now-style-movie-poster

Legendary Pictures has just released one of the best movie posters that I've seen so far this year! It's an IMAX poster for Kong: Skull Island, and it's done in the same style as Francis Ford Coppola's classic Vietnam War film Apocalypse Now. I love this poster, and I want one! I included the Apocalypse Now poster below so that you can compare the two.

We also have some new information regarding the film and its connection to Godzilla. According to CinemaBlend, one of the characters in Skull Island will tie the two monster movies together even though they take place 40 years apart.

It's explained that the story follows Tom Hiddleston's character, Conrad, who is a tracker and former British Special Air Service soldier hired to assist a crew on an expedition to Skull Island towards the end of the Vietnam War. The team that he's leading happens to be the same mysterious group that had known about Godzilla in that first movie. The group is known as the Monarch organization. Producer Alex Garcia explained to the site:

“It’s a landslide expedition, officially, but John Goodman, who plays the guy from Monarch, is sort of pulling the strings in the background and we come to realize obviously that they knew much more than they let on initially.”

Godzilla hasn't emerged yet in the modern world during the time that Skull Island is taking place, so don't expect him to show up in this movie. This is strictly a Kong movie, and we won't see the two characters come face-to-face until Godzilla vs. Kong, which isn't supposed to be released until 2020.

Tom Hiddleston stars in Skull Island along with Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, John C. Reilly, Toby Kebbell, Corey Hawkin,s and Jason Mitchell. It's set to hit theaters on March 10. Now... where can I buy that poster?

Hilarious Red-Band Trailer for FIST FIGHT Shows Ice Cube Ready to Fight Charlie Day

hilarious-red-band-trailer-for-fist-fight-shows-ice-cube-ready-to-fight-charlie-day

Ice Cube is ready to beat the shit out of Charlie Day in the new red-band trailer for Fist Fight. This looks hilarious, and it's one one of the few comedies that I'm actually excited about seeing this year. I have no idea if it will do well or if there's a big audience out there looking forward to seeing it, and it probably won't appeal to everyone, but I'm a fan of Day, Cube, and the rest of the cast. I just think it will be a crazy, silly, and entertaining comedy. The movie was directed by Richie Keen (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and this is the synopsis:

On the last day of the year, mild-mannered high school English teacher Andy Campbell (Day) is trying his best to keep it together amidst senior pranks, a dysfunctional administration and budget cuts that put jobs on the line. But things go from bad to worse when he accidentally crosses his much tougher and deeply feared colleague, Ron Strickland (Cube), who challenges Campbell to an old-fashioned throw down after school. News of the fight spreads like wildfire and ends up becoming the very thing this school, and Campbell, needed.

Fist Fight also stars Tracy Morgan (30 Rock), Jillian Bell (22 Jump Street), Dean Norris (Breaking Bad), Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), Dennis Haysbert (The Unit), and JoAnna Garcia Swisher (The Astronaut Wives Club).

Ice Cube and Charlie Day are set to brawl on February 17!

I've got a crazy awesome fan film for you to check out today that features an extremely fun fight to the death between Buzz Lightyear and Darth Vader. The video was created by Andrew McMurry of Nukazooka, and it's an absolute blast watching these two characters go ballistic on each other! At one point early in the battle, Vader cuts Buzz's arm off and Buzz picks it up and starts to beat Vader with it! The fight scene just keeps escalating from there. Make sure to watch until the end, because it has a great ending. Enjoy the show!

J.J. Abrams Is Producing a WWII Zombie Movie Called OVERLORD

J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot are producing an awesome sounding World War II zombie thriller called Overlord. The film is set up at Paramount Pictures, and it's set to be directed by Julius Avery (Son of a Gun) from a script written Billy Ray (Captain Philips) and Mark L. Smith (The Revenant). With these two talented writers on board, you can bet the script for this film is going to be great.

The story follows "two paratroopers who are caught behind enemy lines after their plane crashes on a mission to destroy a German Radio Tower in a small town outside of Normandy during the D-Day invasion. After reaching their target, the two paratroopers come to realize that besides fighting off Nazi soldiers, they also must combat against supernatural forces that are a result of a secret Nazi experiment."

This project has been sitting around at Paramount since 2007, and it's great to see that it's finally attracted a director and is gaining traction. According to Variety, the studio is already on the hunt for actors to take on the roles of the soldiers.

As for the director, I think he'll do a solid job with this project. Son of a Gun was his breakout film, and it was fantastic. He's currently developing the Ridley Scott-produced drug trafficking film The King of L.A. It'll definitely be interesting to see how he handles a film like Overlord. It sounds like it would be a fun project to work on.

Nerds and Jocks Have More in Common Than They Think

The classic battle between "jocks vs. nerds" has been raging in pop culture for decades, but this video from CollegeHumor proves that maybe the two groups aren't as different as we all think. But just when it appears that an understanding may have been reached, things take a turn for the worse. Beneath the jokes, there are some pretty on-point observations about the way we talk to (and about) each other as a culture, and how we might all be better off if we change our approach a little.

Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Thomas Anderson's New Film Has Started Shooting and We Have Details

If you're a major movie geek then you'll be excited to hear that Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Thomas Anderson have started production on a new film! That means Day-Lewis is probably going to get another Best Actor win at the Oscars. The two talents previously worked together on There Will Be Blood, which was a masterpiece.

The title of the movie has yet to be revealed, but according to the press release, "Anderson will once again explore a distinctive milieu of the 20th century. The new movie is a drama set in the couture world of 1950s London. The story illuminates the life behind the curtain of an uncompromising dressmaker commissioned by royalty and high society."

Joining Day-Lewis is Lesley Manville, who was a BAFTA Award nominee for Best Actress for Another Year, and Vicky Krieps, whose films include A Most Wanted Man and Hanna.

The movie is being distributed by Focus Features and Universal Pictures, and it will be released later this year. This team of talent has an amazing collaborative spirit, and I seriously cannot wait to see what they have planned for this next film of theirs.
