See Every Cycle of GROUNDHOG DAY Play Simultaneously

0
0

Today is Groundhog Day, so there's no better day to watch this video from YouTuber Neil Fennell which collects every single cycle of Harold Ramis' classic film Groundhog Day and plays them out at the same time. It's a fascinating study of the Bill Murray comedy and will make you appreciate the performances, timing, and construction of the film on an entirely new level. It's a bit long, but I'd recommend watching this video all the way through instead of just watching the DVD for the millionth time — you might see things from a new perspective (just like Phil Connors).

I wanted to see what it would be like if the events of the movie "Groundhog Day" all took place simultaneously.

The film shows 37 separate days from Phil's thousands of Groundhog Days in Punxsutawney. Every frame of the movie is used from days 1-37, with the exception of a few crossfades.

Heart-Pounding Super Bowl Spot for GHOST IN THE SHELL Features New Footage

With the Super Bowl coming up, it means we're going to get a slew of new TV spots and trailers for some of the most highly anticipated movies of the year. Today, Paramount Pictures released an exciting Super Bowl spot for Ghost in the Shell and it offers some incredibly cool new footage. One of the main scenes shown in the trailer shows Michael Pitt's Kuze confronting Scarlett Johansson's Major and tearing her face off, revealing the cyborg skeleton underneath, while telling her that her life was stolen.

Ghost in the Shell follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

The cast of the film also includes Beat Takeshi Kitano as Daisuke Aramaki, Juliette Binoche as Dr. Ouelet, Pilou Asbæk as Batou, and Kaori Momoi. Some of the various members of Section 9 are played by Chin Han, Danusia Samal, Lasarus Ratuere, Yutaka Izumihara and Tuwanda Manyimo.

Ghost in the Shell is set to be unleashed in theaters March 31, 2017.

Batman Fights Joker in One of Three Great Clips From THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE

Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Warner Bros. has been heavily laying on the marketing for The LEGO Batman Movie. It seems like every day there's a ton of new stuff to share. I haven't been able to keep up with the amount of TV spots and stuff that the marketing team has been releasing. But today I've got three new clips from the film that I had to share because they're entertaining and funny.

The first clip features an amusing scene in which Batman (Will Arnett) fights the Joker (Zack Galifianakis), but it turns into an argument over The Joker being his greatest enemy. The second clip centers on Robin (Michael Cera) freaking out over the awesomeness of The Batcave. The third and final clip shows Robin being trained by Batman.

The movie looks like it might be even better than The LEGO Movie. I especially enjoy what I've seen of the dynamic between Batman and Robin.

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made The LEGO Movie a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble—LEGO Batman—stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

The film also features the voice talents of Ralph Fiennes as Alfred Pennyworth, Rosario Dawson as Barbara Gordon, Billy Dee Williams as Two-Face, Jenny Slate as Harley Quinn, and Mariah Carey as Mayor McCaskill. The LEGO Batman Movie is set to open in theaters on February 10.

Oscars: Every Best Cinematography Winner Shines in This Stellar Supercut

Burger Fiction is back with another terrific supercut, this time turning their attention to compiling footage from every single movie that's won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography. It's a heartening reminder of the sheer beauty that can sometimes come through in works of art, and the unique quality movies have to transport you to a different reality through moving pictures. There are a bunch of movies featured here that I need to add to my personal list of things to see.

Plus, it wraps up with a look at this year's crop of nominees, all of which (OK, maybe except for Lion...sorry, Lion) look like they'd fit right in with the rest of these movies. What's your pick to take home this year's statue? I have a feeling it's La La Land's year.

New Photo of STRANGER THINGS' Finn Wolfhard as Richie Tozier in Stephen King's IT

A new photo has surfaced from the new feature film adaptation of Stephen King's It, and it offers us a new look at Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard in the role of Richie Tozier. This is such perfect casting for the character, and I'm looking forward to seeing Wolfhard's take on the role that was previously played by Seth Green in the '90s TV film adaptation.

IT is being directed by Andy Muschietti (Mama), and so far I've liked everything I've seen and heard about the film. Right now I'm just eagerly waiting to see a trailer for the film.

The film is based on the novel by Stephen King, whose story recalls a promise made 28 years ago that forces seven adults to reunite in Derry, Maine, where as teenagers they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children. Unsure that their Losers Club had vanquished the creature all those years ago, the seven had vowed to return to Derry if IT should ever reappear. Now, children are being murdered again and their repressed memories of that summer return as they prepare to do battle with the monster lurking in Derry’s sewers once more.

The film is being released in two parts. The first one is set in the 1980s and will focus on the "Losers Club" as they come together to battle It. The second film is set 30 years later in modern times when the monster returns and the group of friends are forced to come back together to destroy It once and for all.

The movie also stars Jaeden Lieberher (Midnight Special) as Bill Denbrough, newcomer Sophia Lillis as Beverly Marsh, Jack Dylan Grazer (Tales of Halloween) as Stan Uris, Wyatt Oleff (Guardians of the Galaxy) as Eddie Kaspbrak, Chosen Jacobs (Hawaii Five-0) as Mike Hanlon, and Jeremy Ray Taylor (42) as Ben Hanscom.

The first film is set to be released on September 8th, 2017.

ARROW Is Bringing Back Black Canary With a New Actress

For those of you who have walked away from Arrow, it looks like things are changing enough to convince you to come back! I know a lot of fans on the site were peeved whenLaurel Lance/Black Canary (Katie Cassidy) was killed off on the series (I was never a big fan). No Laurel meant no Black Canary, who many fans of Green Arrow would agree is central to the storylines of Oliver Queen. With Felicity continually pushed and no Black Canary, many fans wrote off the series as its new season began late last year.

If you're watching the show you already know, but if you've stepped away it looks like the team will soon be getting a new Black Canary! Collider reports actress Juliana Harkavy has joined the show as Tina Boland, making her debut a couple weeks ago with a sonic scream of sorts.

Last night's episode confirmed many suspicions that Tina Boland is actually Dinah Drake! For those unaware, Dinah Drake was the name of the original Black Canary from the comic books, which means it looks like we have a new Black Canary on Arrow!

Let's hope team Arrow commits to the new character and this isn't just some cheap couple episodes then gone character to attempt to pull people back into the show. Of course, there still is also a chance of Cassidy returning as her Earth-2 counterpart Black Siren...but I think it's best if we just move on from the Laurel Canary. Am I alone on that? Is this enough to bring you back to the show if you stopped watching?

Hugh Jackman Reveals Trick to Playing Old Man Logan; LOGAN Was Inspired by LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE

0
0

As you've already seen, Hugh Jackman plays a very different version of Wolverine in Logan than we've seen before. This is definitely the most hardened, gritty, and badass version of the hero yet. In a recent interview with Empire, Jackman and director James Mangold talk about the film and their approach to bringing this older version of Wolverine to the big screen. First Jackman explained how a tip from actor Jim Broadbent helped him remember to be in pain while playing Logan.

“When he was playing older, [Broadbent] would tape a little stone to his heel. I would have that, just to remind myself of a limp. [Logan's] body hurts. His joints hurt. His heart hurts. Psychologically, he’s damaged. What’s the collateral damage of being Wolverine for all those years?”

Mangold went on to talk about his original Logan pitch to the studio describing it as Little Miss Sunshine meets Wolverine.

"I said, I want to make Little Miss Sunshine with Logan, Charles Xavier, and X-23. Trap these superheroes in a van on a highway in the year 2029 and see what happens."

It's a concept that looks like it totally works! Who would have thought that Little Miss Sunshine would have been an inspiration for Logan!? The director went on to discuss the characters' different and unusual appearances in the movie, including an explanation of why Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier has some hair.

Jackman "kind of looks like Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven, while Sir Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier has a little bit of hair, which Mangold acknowledged “could be kind of sacrilege. The theory was that he originally lost all his hair because it’s just too damn busy [in his head] to grow hair – the idea for me was, well, maybe there’s a little fringe on there, because things are slowing down mentally.”

I love their whole approach to how they are handling these characters in this movie. I love everything that I've seen, and now I'm just eager and excited to watch the movie! We have less than a month to go before it's released!

Logan takes place in the year 2029, where mutant births have become extremely rare. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a weary Logan. Logan's vaunted healing factor has slowed, and at times doesn't seem to work at all. When a young mutant needs his help, Logan has to unsheathe his claws once more. His job isn't over yet.

Logan also stars Boyd Holbrook as Donald Pierce, Dafne Keen as Laura Kinney/X-23, Doris Morgado as Maria, Stephen Merchant as Caliban, Elizabeth Rodriguez as Gabriela, and Richard E. Grant as Dr. Zander Rice.

Logan hits theaters on March 3, 2017.

The Zords Rush Into Battle in New Poster for POWER RANGERS

the-zords-rush-into-battle-in-new-poster-for-power-rangers

The Zords and the Rangers are rushing into battle in the latest poster for Lionsgate's upcoming Power Rangers. It's definitely the most exciting poster for the film that's been released so far. It seems like more people have warmed up to this movie since the last trailer was released, but I'm still not convinced. Yeah, of course, I hope it turns out to be good, but I think it's going to end up being disappointing. Regardless of what I think, what are your thoughts? What are you most excited about seeing in the movie? Do you think it will live up to your expectations? Sounds off in the comments below!

Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.

The cast includes Dacre Montgomery as Jason the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G as Trini the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as Zack the Black Ranger, with Bill Hader voicing Alpha 5, Bryan Cranston as Zordon, and Elizabeth Banks as villain Rita Repulsa.

The movie was directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) and it's set to be released on March 24, 2017.

Adventure-Filled New Trailer for THE LOST CITY OF Z with Charlie Hunnam and Tom Holland

Adventurous New Trailer for THE LOST CITY OF Z with Charlie Hunnam and Tom Holland

I love a good adventure thriller, and The Lost City of Z looks like it will be a great movie! The film is based on the true story of Percy Fawcett (Charlie Hunnam), a soldier and explorer who, in the 1920s, disappeared while searching for a mythical city of an advanced civilization in the Amazon jungle of Brazil.

I first read about Fawcett when I was in high school and became obsessed with his story for awhile. I just love these kinds of stories, and I'm excited to see Fawcett's story retold in this upcoming film.

The movie is being distributed by Amazon Studios, it comes from writer and producer James Grey (The Immigrant), and it also stars Sienna Miller, Tom Holland, and Robert Pattinson. Here's the synopsis:

Based on author David Grann’s nonfiction bestseller, THE LOST CITY OF Z tells the incredible true story of British explorer Percy Fawcett (Charlie Hunnam), who journeys into the Amazon at the dawn of the 20th century and discovers evidence of a previously unknown, advanced civilization that may have once inhabited the region. Despite being ridiculed by the scientific establishment who regard indigenous populations as “savages,” the determined Fawcett – supported by his devoted wife (Sienna Miller), son (Tom Holland) and aide-de-camp (Robert Pattinson) – returns time and again to his beloved jungle in an attempt to prove his case, culminating in his mysterious disappearance in 1925. An epically scaled tale of courage and obsession, told in James Gray’s classic filmmaking style, THE LOST CITY OF Z is a stirring tribute to the exploratory spirit and those individuals driven to achieve greatness at any cost.

The Lost City of Z opens in NY and LA on April 14, 2017 and then gets an expanded wide release the following week on April 21.

George R.R. Martin Releasing Book Chronicling the Targaryen Kings

0
0

George R.R. Martin has a new book due out in 2018, and while it's not Winds Of Winter, it does sound pretty interesting! Comicbook says Martin's new book will be part of The Book Of Swords anthology and titled The Sons Of The Dragon. The story will be the only A Song Of Ice And Fire story in the anthology and will cover the reigns of the second and third Targaryen kings and their families.

The short story will eventually be a part of a historical anthology on the house of Targaryen that Martin plans to write after Winds of Winter is completed, so it'll probably never come out. All joking aside, as happy as I am to see any ASOIAF stuff rolling out from Martin...FINISH THE SERIES. He's playing a game with time that many don't gamble with at 68! Let's hope he finally completes the novel so we can see how the books end!

If nothing else, the content will make good source material for the supposed Game of Thrones prequel that may or may not happen...right?

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: Watch Katie and Micah's Original Improvised Auditions

0
0

It's hard to believe it's been nearly ten years since the original Paranormal Activity made its debut on the festival circuit (it premiered in 2007, but didn't get a full theatrical release until 2009). I remember seeing the movie for the first time and being incredibly unsettled by it. I walked out of the theater into a creepy, foggy Los Angeles night, and kept all of the lights on in my apartment for the rest of the night before I ultimately fell into a restless sleep. I had read about how Steven Spielberg apparently thought his copy of the movie was haunted, and how he brought it back to his studio in a garbage bag because he didn't want it anywhere near his house.

I'm not sure how much of that Spielberg story is true and how much of it was crafted by a marketing team somewhere in order to add to the mystique of the movie, but after seeing the film, I could totally believe that was a genuine reaction.

Now, director Oren Peli (who has only directed one other movie) has released footage from the auditions of stars Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat, who certainly had no idea that the $15,000 movie they were about to make was on its way to becoming a full-fledged horror movie phenomenon that would spawn multiple sequels and a complex web of mythology all its own. These are unique auditions because they're completely improvised (as was most of the movie itself), and it's cool to look back on this as an artifact of this mega-franchise in its earliest stages.

Here's What EDGE OF TOMORROW Might Look Like as a Cheesy '90s Comedy

0
0

For some reason, not enough people saw 2014's Edge of Tomorrow. Maybe people had been burned one too many times by mediocre Tom Cruise movies, or maybe they were feeling a bit wary about the concept of a sci-fi/action version of Groundhog Day. But whatever the reason, the people who skipped that movie missed one of the best action movies of the past few years, and I highly recommend checking it out if you were feeling "meh" about it thanks to the marketing. (That whole "changing the movie's title to Live.Die.Repeat for the video release" thing didn't help, either.)

Now, Mashable has created a fake trailer for the movie that imagines what it might look like as a cheesy '90s-era studio comedy. The goofy voiceover. The cheesy saxophone music. It's all there. Watch and enjoy.

SHARKNADO 5 Has Been Announced and Is Currently in Production

0

I seriously can't believe that there is going to be fifth Sharknado film. SyFy and Asylum announced today that they've started shooting Sharknado 5, and Ian Ziering and Tara Reid will once again reprise their roles as shark-fighting experts Fin Shepard and April Wexler.

It amazes me that there's such a big following for this stupid-ass franchise, but people seem to enjoy the ridiculousness of it. I've personally just found it painful to watch. If you are a Sharknado fan, I've got an excerpt from the script for you along with a description of the story.

Sharknado-5-announced-syfu

Yep, there's that wonderful writing fans have been waiting for. As for the synopsis, here's what was given in the press release:

Sharknado 5, which sees the deadly weather phenomenon of shark-infested storms bombard cities around the world, will film in more than five countries, including the UK and Australia. Anthony C. Ferrante, who directed the first four films, is back to helm this latest installment, based on a script by Scotty Mullen.
In Sharknado 2: The Second One, New York City was the target of the disaster, and in Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!, a mega-sharknado made its way down the “Feast Coast” from Washington, D.C. to Florida. In the most recent installment, Sharknado: The 4th Awakens, the shark-infested storms went national. The film ended with the Eiffel Tower ripping away from Paris and crashing down on Niagara Falls – a chilling indication that no one in the world is safe!
Now, in Sharknado 5, with much of North America lying in ruins, the rest of the world braces for the inevitable – a global sharknado. Fin Shepard and his family must put a stop to this disaster before Earth is completely obliterated.

The film is shooting in Bulgaria. There's no information one what the title will be yet, but do you have any funny suggestions?

Children Offer Idris Elba Dating Advice in Funny Video

Ladies (or men, it doesn't really specify), Omaze is giving you a chance for a romantic evening with Idris Elba. You and a friend will be flown out to meet Elba, get a romantic dinner and evening with the actor, and get lodged in a 4 star hotel. Elba isn't contractually obligated to stay in the hotel...that's up to you.

To promote the event Omaze did another one of their amazing celebrity videos. In this one, Elba asks the advice of children for how to put on the perfect date and the responses are hilariously honest and will definitely hit a soft spot in your heart. I got to chuckling when the boy was talking about how nothing about a date is about what the man wants! Hear that and other gems of wisdom in the video below, and if you're looking to get in on that contest, click here

DC Film Fan Starts a Petition for Zack Snyder to Direct THE BATMAN

0
0

A DC movie fan has launched a petition to get Zack Snyder on board to direct The Batman, which Ben Affleck recently dropped out of. People still haven't learned that petitions like this are pointless because the studios are just going to do what they want. Warner Bros. in particular, doesn't really come off as caring about what the fans think. That's just my impression. They're just going to do what they do.

Since Affleck dropped out, five names have surfaced as potential directors for the film that include George Miller (Mad Max), Gavin O'Connor (Miracle, Warrior, The Accountant), Denis Villeneuve (Arrival), Matt Reeves (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), and Matt Ross (Captain Fantastic).

I'd personally rather see any of these directors take on The Batman than Snyder. Don't get me wrong, Snyder has his talents and skills as a director, but we've already seen him take on Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and he's directing the next two Justice League movies.  I'd like to see someone else take on the challenge. Snyder doesn't have to direct every freakin' DC movie. I'd much rather see a Batman movie directed by George Miller! I think he'd give us something completely badass!

Here's what the petition that was launched by Jennifer Huneycutt says. It explains why she would like to see Snyder step into the director's chair.

On Tuesday, we received the news that Ben Affleck has officially stepped down from directing The Batman. It's a disappointment, since he's a fantastic director. While he's only been behind the lens on a handful of films, they're pretty much all critical darlings, with a slew of Oscar, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, and other nominations and wins. Gone Baby Gone, The Town, and Argo are a few examples of his directing prowess. He was going to bring something really special to the DCEU, and now it's not going to be quite the same. (However, he is still starring, writing, and producing. It's this wearing of too many hats that caused him to step down.)
So. The film will still have a lot of his influence, which is good news. However, the question now becomes: Who should be in the director's chair when cameras start rolling on The Batman?
To me, the answer is obvious – Zack Snyder.
Pipe down, haters. Hear me out here. Snyder has a stellar record with comic book and graphic novel properties. Starting with 2006's 300, and followed by Watchmen in 2009, he has shown his skill with, and commitment to, being incredibly faithful to iconic source material. Many scenes in both films are panel-for-panel recreations of the graphic novel pages. He doesn't try to stick his two cents' worth in every movie, putting his own spin on things (they like to call it “artistic license” in the biz) just because he can. He knows how much these stories mean to their fans, and that goes a long way in my book. He has my respect for that.
Another reason is continuity. Aside from the abysmal Suicide Squad, Snyder is pretty much in the driver's seat for the whole DCEU. He directed Man of Steel, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice; and is also slated for Justice League: Parts 1 & 2. So it only makes sense to let him remain in control, for the sake of the integrity of the film universe itself. Having a bunch of different directors work on a single series is just asking for trouble, both in continuity and in the dreaded “creative differences.” (Yes, it has mostly worked for Marvel, but the MCU is lightning in a bottle. Let's not pretend that makes it a foolproof formula.) He's already familiar with all the principal characters and their respective portrayers, so he isn't going to go screwing with established canon or pissing off his stars.
Finally, there's his style, visually and tonally. He's created a beautifully dark DCEU, and populated it with characters and stories who fit the narrative perfectly. Some may not care for the darkness he's brought to the founders of the Justice League, but I would advise those people to read more comics. Batman is an incredibly dark character (they don't call him The Dark Knight for nothing, you know), and Snyder's unique vision for his films is perfect for the tragic tale of Bruce Wayne – even more so for this Bruce Wayne, the harder, more vengeful version he becomes after the death of Jason Todd. His world simply isn't a light and happy place. Gotham City seems to live entirely by night (no pun intended), and this makes him a perfect fit.
Really, it's a no-brainer. Zack Snyder's commitment to source material, extraordinary visual style, and previous experience in the DCEU makes him the ideal candidate, especially when you factor in the influence Ben Affleck is still going to have on the film's story and dialogue. The two working together just might make the best comic book film we've seen yet.

If you like what the petition is saying, you can sign it here.

Max Landis Shares His POWER RANGERS Script That Was a Love Letter to the Original Series

0
0

The script Max Landis wrote for the Power Rangers movie has leaked to the web, and it's about as faithful to the original '90s series as you can get! As we all know, the upcoming Power Rangers clearly took a grittier and transformative direction than what Landis wrote, so he was pulled off the project for an alternate idea. The 128-page script can be found right here and reads like a classic Power Rangers episode.

Not even a couple pages in and we already have Billy, Jason, Bulk, and Skull having an exchange on a beach littered with dead fish. The whole project is kind of hard to describe. It's like The Power Rangers you know from back in the day, but if they were a bit edgier and violent. At times it's perfect, and at others, it comes off as kind of odd. There's a scene where Zordon is trying to crack jokes, and I flat out said aloud, "This is whack," but I guess that's what rewrites are for.  It's just my personal opinion, of course, and maybe my imagining of the film is wildly different from what you'll read.

Take a read at the link and let us know what you think of Landis' take!
