Marvel Inside News: THE AVENGERS 2 and CAPTAIN AMERICA 2

0
0

Twitter user Roger Wardell is known for posting a ton of inside Marvel movie news, and I thought it might be fun to discuss some of the things that he's revealed. His most recent posts include information for The Avengers 2 and Captain America 2. You might consider some of these claims spoilers, but there's no confirmation on them so I think it's fine to use them as discussion pieces.

Here's what he revealed for The Avengers 2:

Inside News: The Masters of Evil will feature in The Avengers 2.

Inside News: The Avengers was about assembling to save the world, but in Avengers 2 the team will be assembling to save themselves.

It would be so cool to see the Master of Evil gather together against The Avengers in the sequel! For those of you not familiar, The Masters of Evil is a supervillain team in the Marvel Universe. I can definitely see Joss Whedon implementing this supervillain team into his story. The roster of members have changed over the years, but they remain the principal villains of the Avengers. There have been eight incarnations of the Masters of Evil, accumulating dozens of members in total. Here's the list of incarnations...

  • Baron Heinrich Zemo's incarnation
  • Ultron's incarnation
  • Egghead's incarnation
  • Baron Helmut Zemo's incarnation
  • Doctor Octopus' incarnation
  • Masters of Evil/Thunderbolts

It will be interesting to see who from the Masters of Evil they actually end up using, if they use them. For more information on The Masters of Evil head over click here. Who from the Masters of Evil would you like to see in The Avengers 2?

Here's what was revealed for Captain America: The Winter Soldier:

Inside News: Captain America 2 will feature flashbacks of Black Widow's past and her complicated relationship with the Winter Soldier.

We previously heard that Black Widow would return for the sequel. If you've read the comics then you know that there's a history between Winter Soldier and Black Widow. It will be great to see and explore that history in the movie. Their past definitely was complicated. Winter Soldier helped train her, they had a little thing going at one point, and then ended up fighting each other. This is sure to make a great story arc in the film.

Would you like to see Black Widow and Winter Soldier's back story in Captain America 2

Will The Wasp be Introduced in IRON MAN 3?

0
0

As I was going through Roger Wardell's twitter feed today I saw something that sparked my interest for Shane Black's Iron Man 3...

Inside News: When Stephanie Szostak's role is for Iron Man 3 is announced, fans will go crazy.

Szostak's role has been shrouded in secrecy, and this little comment sent me on a hunt to find out more information. I ended up coming across an article over at comicbook.com that had an inside source tell them that she is playing The Wasp in the film! It's definitely a character that fans would flip over! We've all wanted to see The Wasp introduced in the marvel universe, and it would be great if it was in Iron Man 3

Szostak does appear briefly in the Iron Man 3 trailer, shoving Tony Stark up against the wall (I think they're going to make out). This could easily be our first look at Janet van Dyne. We may not see her in costume in the film kicking ass, but this could be the introduction to the character.  Joss Whedon also said that he was looking to introduce more women characters into The Avengers sequel, and The Wasp would make sense. The actress is definitely sporting a Wasp style haircut.

What do you think about the possibility of The Wasp showing up in Iron Man 3? There's a reason why Marvel is keeping things on the down low.

Sean Penn Joins Action-Thriller PRONE GUNMAN

Sean Penn isn't really known for his action films, he's more of a dramatic and intense kind of guy. His upcoming role in Gangster Squad looks like the most action-packed film he's done so far, but now he's set to jump on board an action film franchise called Prone Gunman

Joel Silver is producing the movie, so that should give you sense of what kind of action movie we're talking about. The film will be based on a novel written by Jean-Patrick Manchette, the story follows an international operative named Martin Terrier (Penn) who is betrayed by the organization he works for and must go on the run in a relentless game of cat-and-mouse across Europe. The script for the film was written by Peter Travis

Penn will join the ranks of Liam Neeson, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzengger and Bruce Willis as actors over 50 involved with the action movie business. Maybe he should join The Expendables 3 now.

What do you think of Penn getting in on the action film genre? Here's the description of the book that the film will be based on:

Martin Terrier is a hired killer who wants out of the game—so he can settle down and marry his childhood sweetheart. After all, that’s why he took up this profession! But the Organization won't let him go: they have other plans. Once again, the gunman must assume the prone shooting position. A tour de force, this violent tale shatters as many illusions about life and politics as bodies.

FIREFLY and TOY STORY Art - To Serenity and Beyond

Here's a great piece of Toy Story and Firefly t-shirt mash-up art created by OneShoeOff called To Serenity and Beyond. As you can see, Woody is Captain Malcolm 'Mal' Reynolds and Buzz is Jayne Cobb. Here's what the artist had to say about the design:

Well, in the film you’ve got a space ranger and a cowboy, and then in tv show you’ve got the ultimate space cowboys. It was a match made in the Gamma Quadrant.

What do you think of the mash-up design?

Need an adrenaline shot of Red Dawn?! FilmDistrict has released a new trailer, a behind the scenes featurette focusing on the lady Wolverines, nine TV spots, a clip and a poster! If this doesn't sell you on seeing the film nothing will. I'm not overly excited for the film, but if nothing else is out the weekend it opens then maybe I'll go see it.

The movie was directed by Dan Bradley and it stars Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, Connor Cruise and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

In Red Dawn, a city in Washington state awakens to the surreal sight of foreign paratroopers dropping from the sky – shockingly, the U.S. has been invaded and their hometown is the initial target. Quickly and without warning, the citizens find themselves prisoners and their town under enemy occupation. Determined to fight back, a group of young patriots seek refuge in the surrounding woods, training and reorganizing themselves into a guerilla group of fighters. Taking inspiration from their high school mascot, they call themselves the Wolverines, banding together to protect one another, liberate their town from its captors, and take back their freedom.

The movie is set to be released on November 21st.

STAR WARS and SWORD IN THE STONE Mashup Art

This might just be my favorite Disney Star Wars mashup so far. It's a perfect re-imagining of Wart and Merlin from The Sword in the Stone as Skywalker and Kenobi learning the ways of the force. The Sword in the Stone was one of my favorite Disney movies growing up, and it's cool to see how well these characters fit in the Star Wars universe. It was created by Brandon Lamb.

Eric Bana to Star in Paranormal Police Thriller BEWARE THE NIGHT

Eric Bana is in talks to star in the Jerry Bruckheimer produced, Scott Derrickson (Sinister) directed film project Beware the Night. The movie is a paranormal police thriller based on the book by Ralph Sarchie. The story follows a New York cop who investigates demonic possessions, exorcisms and other supernatural occurences.

The movie has been in development for years, it started out with Derrickson on board, and has since gone through the hands of filmmakers like David Ayer, Bryan Bertino and Bruce C. McKenna. It's now back in the hands of Derrickson. Mark Wahlberg was previously offered the lead role at one point but he turned it down.

I've enjoyed most of the films that the director has made, and this seems like a great project for him. He's also signed on to direct Two Eyes Staring with Charlize Theron for Summit Entertainment, which is a remake of the Dutch thriller Zwart Water. He also recently wrote the script for Devil’s Knot, which is the movie being made based on the West Memphis Three.

As for Bana, he's a great actor and I enjoy watching him in the films he makes. This should turn out to be a solid project for him and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Gets an Oscar Push

Warner Bros. has launched their Oscar campaign for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. Some of the Oscar awards they are pushing for include Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. As much as I loved The Dark Knight Rises, I don't see it winning any of those. It might get nominated, but it wasn't a better film that The Dark Knight.

The studio kicked the nomination push off with a "For Your Consideration" ad in Variety Magazine, which you can see above. The studio also set up an official website promoting their campaign.

TDKR is one of many films that the studio is pushing for this award season. The other films include Argo, Cloud Atlas, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Magic Mike.

New 60 Second Promo Clip for DJANGO UNCHAINED

The Weinstein Company has released a new 60-second promo clip for Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained. There's not much new footage here, just a little reminder that the movie is coming. They call it a clip, which is why I called it a clip, but it plays out more like a trailer.

The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, Gerald McRaney, Dennis Christopher, Laura Cayouette, M.C. Gainey, Don Johnson, Kerry Washington, Anthony LaPaglia, RZA, Tom Wopat, James Remar, James Russo, Todd Allen and Jonah Hill. It's set to open up on December 25th!

Synopsis:

Set in the South two years before the Civil War, DJANGO UNCHAINED stars Academy Award®-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award®-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles -- dead or alive.

Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South's most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.

Django and Schultz's search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award®-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of "Candyland," an infamous plantation. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award®-nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie's trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival...

Check out this hilarious piece of geek art created by Marco D’Alfonso featuring Deadpool as Walter White and Hydra Agent Bob as Jesse Pinkman from the amazing TV series Breaking Bad. Something really needs to happen with Deadpool soon, like that movie that nothing seems to be happening with, or even a crazy TV series on cable! I just want to see Deadpool finally brought to life!

Bryan Singer Teases First Look at Giant in JACK THE GIANT SLAYER

Director Bryan Singer has tweeted out a couple of photos from inside the editing room of his fantasy adventure film, Jack the Giant Slayer. One of them gives us our first look at one of the giants in the story that Jack will be slaying. The other photo give us a look at Nicholas Hoult as the title character. Up until this point we haven't seen what these giants look like. I'm looking forward to a clearer version of the giant design, but from what I see here, it's a crazy interesting design.

A new trailer for the film is set to be released soon with Rise Of The Guardians and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Jack the Giant Slayer tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittinglyopens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack, into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend–and gets the chance to become a legend himself.

The movie is set to be released in theaters in 3D on March 1st, 2013. What do you think about the giant design?

Maria Bello Joins James Wan's Thriller HOUSE OF HORRORS

0

Maria Bello has been cast as the female lead in James Wan's new untitled thriller that's set up over at Dimension Films. Wan, who started the Saw franchise and directed Insidious is producing the film, and Will Canon is set to direct it. Canon has made a handful of short films and a feature length film called Brotherhood which I've never seen.

The story centers on a "detective and a police psychologist (Bello) who are investigating the massacre of five college kids in a decrepit home and must deal with a suspect, a survivor of the killing, who explains the group [were] amateur ghost-hunters and that it was the house that is to blame."

It's not specified in the report at THR, but I believe this is Wan's film House of Horrors, which was announced last year. Canon is the third director to be attached to the project. It sounds like a cool horror movie, and with the casting of Bello, it seems like the movie is finally starting to move forward. Here's the full synopsis for the movie:

The Devil made me do it.

The House of Horror is a horror-thriller that centres around a gruesome crime scene. The film is shot with a blend of found footage, interrogation video, news cameras and classical cinematography. The film focuses on the aftermath of a horrific massacre; five college students, brutally murdered inside a decrepit, abandoned home.

We are thrown right into the mix as the lead Detective, Mark Lewis, and the police department’s psychologist, Dr. Elizabeth Klein, question a suspect. The young man at the centre is John Ascot, bound by handcuffs in a mobile command station. During the interrogation, John explains everything leading up to the deaths of his friends.

We discover that they were amateur ghost-hunters, seeking out paranormal phenomenon at the abandoned house believed to be haunted. What started out as a harmless activity turned into something truly terrifying and more than they ever could bargain for. John explains to the police that he isn’t responsible for his friends’ deaths, but rather, it was the house. He tells them he believes the house is a gateway to hell; a place of concentrated evil.

We slowly witness an eerie change in John’s demeanour through the course of the movie. Things take a disturbing turn when John hints at the notion that he is possessed by the Devil. Detective Lewis and Dr. Kleinare forced to unravel the mystery of how John’s friends were murdered. All this leads to a stunning revelation about the man they’ve been interrogating and a gut-wrenching conclusion.

The movie is set to start shooting in January 2013 in Baton Rouge. Bello recently starred in NBC’s crime drama Prime Suspect and is set to appear in Grown Ups 2 with Adam Sander. I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out!

1950s Teaser Trailer for THE CANYONS

0
0

Want to see some really bad acting? Then watch this 1950s style teaser trailer for The Canyons which stars Lindsay Lohan and porn star James Deen. The movie was developed by writer and director Paul Schrader (Cat People, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver) and writer Bret Easton Ellis (American Psycho).

The previous trailer released for the film was made to look like a 1970s grindhouse exploitation movie. It's got an intersting marketing campaign that's kind of cool, but I think the movie looks like crap, and I have no interest in seeing it.

Here's the Synopsis:

THE CANYONS is a contemporary L.A. noir from director Paul Schrader, writer Bret Easton Ellis, and producer Braxton Pope about the dangers of sexual obsession and ambition, both personally and professionally, among a group of young people in their 20's and how one chance meeting connected to the past unravels all of their lives, resulting in deceit, paranoia, cruel mind games and ultimately violence.

The movie will be released some time next year. Watch the trailer for yourself!

OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL - Full Trailer Lands

Finally a full trailer for Oz The Great and Powerful has landed! The previous teaser trailer gave us only a taste of the plot and was pretty underwhelming to me. I was on the fence before but Sam Raimi dazzles me again with his film wizardry creating what could be a new classic. The movie stars James FrancoMila Kunis, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz and Zach Braff.

Official Synopsis:

Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

Marc Webb Reveals Costume Changes in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

While promoting the Blu-ray release of The Amazing Spider-Man, director Marc Webb opened up a little bit about what he's got planned for the sequel on his Twitter page. He doesn't get into any crazy details, but he confirms that Shailene Woodley will play Mary Jane Watson, and gives a little hint at some of the costume changes we'll be seeing. Here's what went down on twitter...

Here's what he had to say about what we will see in the new costume design.

Here he talks about what it's like working with writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, who are working on the script for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will be back to reprise their roles in the sequel, which is set to be released on May 2nd, 2014. Jamie Foxx is also expected to be playing the villain, Electro, in the movie, which should be interestingly cool. Garfield also recently revealed on the Ellen DeGeneres Show that The Amazing Spider-Man sequel will start shooting next February!

Here's an awesome 1-minute sci-fi CG animated short called The Ball Unleashed. It was directed by Marc Rienzo, and here's the little description that came with the video.

It's pitcher versus batter as a high powered windup unleashes a sci-fi fastball in this thrilling one minute all CG short created exclusively for The New York Mets.

I might actually watch baseball if it was more like this! No offense to anyone that loves baseball! I like baseball movies, and I enjoy going to live games, but I think watching it on TV is boring as hell. Enjoy the short!

Jack Nicholson Wanted for Robert Downey Jr.'s Dad in THE JUDGE

0
0

Warner Bros. is trying to get Jack Nicholson to play Robert Downey Jr.'s dad in a new film called The Judge. Nicholson doesn't really have to work if he doesn't want to, and apparently he's very picky about the projects he does take. Needless to say, it would be awesome if he did sign on for the part! I'd love to see Nicholson and Downey Jr. act alongside each other.

Downey Jr. plays a "successful attorney who returns to his hometown for his mother's funeral only to discover that his Alzheimer's-stricken father is the murder suspect. The man must represent his father in court, in the process becoming a better person."

The Judge will most likely be Downey Jr.'s next film project. Nicholson is 75 years old, and if he joins the film it will be his first since 2007's The Bucket List. Sources say that Downey Jr. is supposed to meet with Nicholson later this week.

Would you like to see Nicholson and Downey Jr. star in a film together?

JOURNEY Fan Art Is a Tranquil Search for Companionship

0
0

Journey is one of my favorite games of the year. Even if it can be completed in less than three hours, it still provided me with more substance than some $60 triple A game. I spent weeks just thinking about game structure, voiceless multiplayer, and the industry itself, just from playing thatgamecompany's unique title.

Journey is successful in letting the player ponder placement and companionship in the world it creates. You are a tiny individual who is stranded alone at first, in a desert that seems to go on forever. You find companions though, with whom you work with in almost total silence (still can chirp), and you try to complete the journey together. It's all rather poetic, and this artist has captured that feeling completely.

Matt Wood is the man behind this beautiful look at the game. The beautiful backdrop along with the chirping of a nearby friend captures only a fraction of what this game is about, but it is done perfectly. I can only hope Mr. Wood makes another one of these in the future.

First Look at the Dark Elves in THOR: THE DARK WORLD

0
0

Here are a couple of photos from the London set of Marvel's Thor: The Dark World giving us our first look at the Dark Elves! I love the armor and character designs! You can even get a little look at what's under the masks of the elves in the image below. As you can see half of the face is pale and the other is dark. I believe that is actually Christopher Eccleston as Malekith the Accursed.

Alan Taylor (Games of Thrones) is directing the movie, and it's been great to see his influence in the set photos we've seen from the production. I can't wait to see what it all looks like up on the big screen! What do you think of the design of the Dark Elves?

Here's the synopsis:

Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

It stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins as Odin.

Here's a little information on the Dark Elves:

The Dark Elves are ruled over by Malekith the Accursed, and the most powerful amongst their ranks was Algrim the Strong. However, Algrim was betrayed by Malekith in a bid to kill Thor. Algrim was dropped into lava and though he survived, he was critically wounded. The Beyonder transformed Algrim into the monstrous Kurse, who seemingly kills Malekith for the betrayal. Years later, Malekith reveals that he survived, and he sets forth an ultimately unsuccessful plot for Hercules to kill Alflyse, the Dark Elf Queen of the Eastern Spires.

The trio of Bitterhand, Wormwood, and Grendell serve Malekith loyally and have attempted to destroy Thor on several occasions, including once while Mjolnir was being reforged

Malekith the Accursed is a supervillain in the Marvel Universe. He is ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim, and has come into conflict with Thor. He once wielded the Casket of Ancient Winters.

Malekith has all the normal attributes of a member of the race of dark elves, although his abilities are as a result of above average development. He possesses a gifted intellect, and superhuman strength, speed, stamina, durability, agility, and reflexes.

As a dark elf, Malekith also has the ability to manipulate the forces of magic for a variety of effects, including teleportation, energy projection, physical malleability, flight (by transforming into mist) illusion casting, and the ability to change the shape and appearance of other beings or objects.

Malekith has a vulnerability to iron, which disrupts or cancels his magical spells.

The photos come from photographer Paul Hennessy with Splash News.
