Teaser Trailer for the Sci-Fi Film EUROPA REPORT With Sharlto Copley

An intriguing teaser trailer has been released for a new sci-fi film called Europa Report. The movie was directed by Sebastián Codero (Cronicas) and stars Sharlto Copley (District 9), Michael Nyqvist (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol), Daniel Wu, Anamaria Marinca, Christian Camargo and Karolina Wydra. It's been almost a year since I've seen anything for this movie, but the teaser trailer has definitely sparked my interest.

The story follows a "group of astronauts who make the arduous journey to Jupiter's frigid, glacial moon Europa in search of extraterrestrial life. The only thing more intimidating and unpredictable than the trip itself is what the team will encounter upon arrival."

The teaser gives us our first look at the spaceship Europa and some of the cast members. It also includes a musical score by composer Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica). There's a website address at the end of the trailer for Europa Ventures, it includes looping video footage of the crew from inside and outside of the spacecraft. I've included a video embed of that as well thanks to Firstshowing.

Check out the trailer and video footage below and let us know if you're excited to see more of the film!

Here's a Mission Statement that's also found on the site:

For decades, scientists have theorized the existence of liquid water oceans on Jupiter's moon, Europa. We've recently discovered new, captivating evidence that these sub-surface oceans do exist and could support life.

We've sent six astronauts from space programs throughout the world on a three year journey to Europa to explore its oceans and confirm these findings.

We're proud to be at the forefront of the effort to prove the existence of extra-terrestrial life within our solar system, within our lifetimes.

INSIDIOUS Director James Wan to Direct MACGYVER Movie

Insidious and Saw director James Wan could end up directing the big screen adaptation of MacGyver! Apparently New Line Cinema loved his latest film project, The Conjuring, so much that they want him to take on MacGyver. He's currently in talks with the studio to develop it.

Wan is mostly known for his horror films that also include Dead Silence and action thriller Death Sentence. He's a talented director and his films have been progressively getting better. I actually wouldn't mind seeing him take on MacGyver, I think he'd do a great job with it!

The movie will be based off of the classic 1980s TV series which starred Richard Dean Anderson. There's no plot details on the film, but the show centered on the character Angus MacGyver, an agent of The Phoenix Foundation. He never carried a gun and relied on his mad skills to create weapons and other things out of whatever was lying around to fight the bad guys.

The script was written by Jason Richman, and it will be interesting to see how this turns out. What are your thoughts on Wan possibly directing this movie?

AMC has released a new clip for next week's episode of The Walking Dead. Episode 6 is titled "Hounded", and the clip features Rick returning to the group to check on them before he heads back out for more zombie carnage.

In last night's episode Rick basically lost his mind and went on a crazy zombie killing spree, clearly he isn't doing very well. "Hounded" airs next Sunday November 18th. It's awesome how good these episodes have been. This season has been amazing, and we're not even halfway though it yet!

What did you think of last night's episode?

Must Watch Short Horror Film THE SLEEPOVER

I've got another great twisted horror short film to share with you called The Sleepover. It was created by Chris Cullari, who explains that it's "a proof-of-concept for a feature film about a town living "between the sequels" of its infamous masked killer. Here's a short plot summary...

The town of Derry has a secret, but no one told the new kid. It's gonna be a long night.

The short is the winner of the Cabin in the Woods/Lionsgate short film contest, and there's a reason it won. It turned out really freakin' good, and it would be cool to see the universe explored more in a feature film. It's got a fun twist you should enjoy.

A big thanks to Chris for sending this our way! Head on over to their Facebook page to keep yourself updated! Watch the short and let us know what you think!

IRON MAN 3 Trailer Gets A Hilarious Sweded Makeover

That awesome Iron Man 3 trailer that Marvel released got a really fun sweded makeover. This is a shot for short remake of the trailer, only it was made on the budget of about $5. The sweded trailer was made by Bryan Harley, who is the same guy that brought us the sweded Avengers trailer. It's really fun to see the creativity in making a cheap looking "big budget" action film. Watch the Iron Man 3 sweded trailer and tell us what your favorite part was!

Synopsis:

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES - 3 Cool Unused Posters

Here's three cool poster designs for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises that were never used to help promote the film. The poster art comes from Trailer Park who had this to say,

We worked with our client to create key art that fell within the franchise look but also conveyed the tension of the storyline and the fact that this is the final film of the series. Art Machine was awarded the domestic and international OOH.

There were so many posters released for this film, I'm surprised these weren't thrown into the mix at some point. I really like these. Check out the posters and let us know what you think of the designs!

Listen to Neil Finn's End Credits Song for THE HOBBIT

Peter Jackson has always ended his Middle Earth films with a great song that plays during the end credits. The song for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey comes from singer/songwriter Neil Finn of the New Zealand band Crowded House, and it's called "Song of the Lonely Mountain". I think the song turned out great! There's a lot of cool layers to it, it really captures the feel of Middle Earth, and the story of The Hobbit

The song is available to listen to over at Rolling Stone, and here's what Finn had to say to them in an interview:

‘The Song of the Lonely Mountain’ was developed from a dark and mysterious theme which the dwarves sing early in the movie. After some days of mining underground (actually, in Peters office) I emerged with the song, then set about recording it with my sons Elroy and Liam. Dave Fridmann came in at the end with a bold mix. He seemed to respond well to my demands for ‘more anvil!’ Pop music needs more anvil!

Click Here to listen to the song

Let us know what you think of the song when you're finished listening to it. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens on December 14th, and the soundtrack will be available on December 11th. Make sure to check back here before then because you'll be able to listen to the soundtrack exclusively on our SoundTrax Podcast!

LES MISERABLES Character Portraits

I have a feeling Tom Hooper's Les Miserables is going to be a big hit. The fact that it's a film that a whole family can see leads me to believe that it will dominate the Christmas box office. Not only that, but I'm sure it's going to get a ton of award nominations.

Vogue has released a great set of character portraits shot by Annie Leibovitz. The photos show off Hugh Jackman (Jean Valjean), Russell Crowe (Javert), Anne Hathaway (Fantine), Amanda Seyfried (Cosette), Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter (the Thénardiers), and Eddie Redmayne (Marius).

The movie will be released on December 25th. Check out the portraits and let us know know if you're excited about seeing the film! Do you expect it to do well?

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

Pee-Wee Herman has made another hilarious trailer with Jimmy Fallon, this time he lends his voice to the characters in World War Z. As cool as I think this movie looks, it's even better with with Pee-Wee's voice. The other trailer voiceover that Fallon and Pee-Wee did was for Lincoln. Enjoy!

New Poster for the Zombie Love Story WARM BODIES

I was surprised by the first trailer released for Jonathan Levine's zombie love story, Warm Bodies, it looks like it's going to be an entertaining film. I initially had no interest in the film, because I thought it was just going to be Twilight with zombies. Turns out it's got a much better story, and it has some good humor thrown into it.

The film is an adaptation of a novel written by Isaac Marion, and the story follows an "existentially-tormented zombie (Nicholas Hoult) named R that begins an unlikely friendship with the human girlfriend of one of his victims. The blossoming relationship starts a chain reaction that will transform him, his fellow zombies and maybe the whole lifeless world."

The movie also stars Teresa Palmer, John Malkovich, Analeigh Tipton, Dave Franco, and Rob Corddry. It's set to be released on February 1st, 2013. Are you looking forward to this one?

Zack Snyder Talks About Pop Culture Embracing MAN OF STEEL

With Zack Snyder's Man of Steel not due till next summer, any news or media for the Superman reboot has been few and far between. But in an interview with the LA Times for the "Ultimate Cut" re-release of his 2009 film Watchmen, Snyder offered some insight into their approach to the Son of Krypton and what the character means to him.

It's a more serious version of Superman. It’s not like a heart attack. We took the mythology seriously. We take him as a character seriously. I believe the movie would appeal to anyone. I think that you’re going to see a Superman you’ve never seen before. We approached it as though no other films had been made.

He's explained this approach, nearly word for word, multiple times before. I'm fully on board this fresh start on the character, and not just rediscovering the mythology but exploring it further and seeing them expand on it. Snyder went on to explain that they're not just looking to tell an exciting story, but that the film will also examine the qualities of the iconic character that pop-culture so faithfully latched onto.

I’m interested in Superman because he’s the father of all superheroes. He’s this amazing ambassador for all superheroes. What was it about him that cracked the code that made pop culture embrace this other mythology? What we‘ve made as a film not only examines that but is also an amazing adventure story. It’s been an honor to work on. As a comic book fan, Superman is like the Rosetta Stone of all superheroes. I wanted to be sure the movie treated it respectfully.

Superman's impact on the comic book superheroes that followed is undeniable. While Richard Donner's films were also a game changer for comic-book films, Bryan Singer's adherence and connective tissue to the Donner films in Superman Returns left the character feeling a bit dated.

With Chris Nolan lending help as a producer on Man of Steel it looks to be in good hands. But only time will tell if Superman can again set the trend for comic book heroes. It'll at least impact DC's upcoming franchises since Snyder has stated that his Superman will stand alone from DC's Justice League film in the works. I'd venture to guess that the tone of Justice League would have to be much different since there would literally be two big-screen versions of the character in different franchises. That or DC would have to get there sh*t together and pull on those contract strings that would have Henry Cavill suiting up for both franchises.

New Trailer and Poster for THE HOST

A new trailer and poster have been released for the sci-fi alien film The Host. The movie has a solid cast that includes Saoirse Ronan (Hanna), Max Irons, Jake Abel, Diane Kruger, William Hurt and Frances Fisher. It was even directed by Andrew Niccol (Gattacca), unfortunately the story comes from the book written by Twilight author Stephanie Meyer. That's enough to completely turn me off of the movie. I have yet to see anything from the film that sparks my interest. What about you?

Here's a short synopsis:

From Stephenie Meyer (author of The Twilight Saga) comes The Host, a love story set in the future, where Earth is occupied by a species who erase the minds of their human hosts, leaving their bodies intact. Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan) is one of the last surviving humans who fights back, risking her life for the people she cares about most – Jared (Max Irons), Ian (Jake Abel), her brother Jamie (Chandler Canterbury) and her Uncle Jeb (William Hurt) – proving that love can conquer all.

The movie is set to be released on March 29th, 2013.

Joss Whedon's S.H.I.E.L.D. Adds Two More Agents

ABC and Joss Whedon have cast two more actors in their upcoming Marvel TV series S.H.I.E.L.D. Those actors are Elizabeth Henstridge (Shelter) and Iain De Caestecker (The FadesYoung James Harriot).

According to THR, Henstridge will play a character named Agent Gemma Simmons described as a science whiz, and De Caestecker is set to play Agent Leo Fitz, a technology guru. "The duo spend all their time together -- mostly bickering -- and are masters at a remarkably young age of their respective fields."

They join the previously cast Ming-Na, who plays Agent Melinda May a top-notch pilot and weapons expert, and of course Clark Gregg, who is reprising his role as Agent Phil Coulson.

The story will revolve around the activities of the top-secret S.H.I.E.L.D espionage organization featured in The Avengers. Whedon is tentatively set to direct the pilot for the series that he will write along side his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen.

IRON MAN - Zombie Awesomeness

Seems like everything is getting the zombie treatment these days and Iron Man is no exception. FashionablyGeek posted this great work by Cosplay artist Kyosti Kallio who has done a very cool rendition. Because of how Adam Jay brilliantly photographed it, I can't really tell how the zombie carved out bits work with a person inside.

The damage to the suit looks like Iron Man didn't go down without a fight. I'd really love to see Iron Man take out swarms of zombies.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Directors List Down to 2

$

It seems like Disney is close to hiring a director for Star Wars: Episode VII. A big list has turned into a short list, and according to producer Frank Marshall, there's only "a couple of candidates" left on that list. Marshall is the husband of Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, so he knows what's going on. When MTV asked him if he knew who was on the list he said, "I do, but I can't reveal it, or I won't be alive tomorrow," adding that there are "a couple of candidates, but I don't know how soon that will be revealed."

When he was asked about a fifth Indiana Jones movie Marshall said that there is still a possibility, and that he doesn't think the Disney Lucafilm merger changes anything. "It's still open, but it's really on the back burner and we're not really talking about it. Star Wars is next, so that's what we're focusing on. Indy is back there, but nothing has changed."

Then there's director Joe Johnston (The Rocketeer, Captain America: The First Avenger and Jurassic Park 3), the man who created Boba Fett. He was a visual effects artist on Episodes IV, V and VI. A lot of fans would love to see this guy jump back on board the Star Wars franchise. He's definitely qualified for the job, and it would be cool to see him take it on. The Huffington Post recently asked Johnston if he would direct the film, and this was his response,

A lot would depend on what ‘it’ is. I am very glad to see Lucasfilm cranking up to get productive again, regardless of who ends up doing it.

It sounds like he would be open to directing a Star Wars movie. Hell, he could be on the list... anyone could be on the 2 person list at this point! It was recently announced that Michael Ardnt will be writing the script, and that a story treatment was sent to several directors to gauge interest. I imagine the directors on this short list both want to be involved. It all comes down to Disney and Lucasfilm making a decision, and I imagine that decision will come soon.

Do you think Johnston would make a good director for the franchise? If not, who else would you like to see take it on? Who do you think is actually on the list?

Disney's BIG THUNDER MOUNTAIN Being Adapted for TV

$

Disney and ABC are developing a new TV series based on their popular western themed train ride Big Thunder Mountain. Apparently the show will be a drama, and it is being co-written by Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious Franchise) and  Jason Fuchs (Ice Age: Continental Drift). Morgan has also written films such as 47 Ronin and the upcoming Legend of Conan.

This seems like a solid writing team, but there's no other information on the series or what the story will be. Judging by what the ride is, I could see the period western series revolving around a mining town during the gold rush in the American southwest. I'm sure it will involve Native Americans as well.

It doesn't suprise me that Disney is making this, after all they made films for Pirates of the Caribbean, and Guillermo del Toro’s Haunted Mansion and Jon Favreau’s Magic Kingdom are both in the works.

This was one of my favorite rides at Disneyland, and I hope they are able to develop a great western series for it. There's a lot of potential to do something very cool. I can't wait to see how this turns out!

NINJASAURAS REX - Art from the Pilot Episode and Synopsis

Last week, we brought you some fantastic character art for Ninjasauras Rex, an original animated series being developed by Emmy Award winning director Frank Paur (HBO's Spawn, X-Men: Evolution) and Steven Meyer (The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes). Today, we bring you some artwork for the pilot episode of the show!

The character descriptions that came with the concept art gave us a taste of the overall tone of the show. The pilot synopsis gives us even more insight into the relationship of the characters and their dynamics, the amount of action we can expect, as well as the mysterious world it takes place in. The dino-warrior series takes place in what seems like Feudal Japan, but in actuality, is a world where the country has become a mix of different races and languages. "This is what happened to Mad Max after everybody got their shit together." There's some pretty exciting possibilities with this concept -- the remnants of "old" technology going up against warrior steel and combat, the main character himself being the result of some left over Jurassic Park-type experiments.

Check out the new artwork from the series, and let us know if you'd watch this show!
