The BBC has just released the first trailer for their upcoming 2016 Doctor Who Christmas Special! Peter Capaldi returns as the Time Lord in the episode titled, "The Return of Doctor Mysterio" and it also introduces us to a mysterious superhero vigilante known as The Ghost.

The Christmas sees The Doctor join forces with a masked Superhero for an epic New York adventure. With brain-swapping aliens poised to attack, the Doctor and Nardole link up with an investigative reporter and a mysterious figure known only as The Ghost. Can the Doctor save Manhattan? And what will be revealed when we see behind the mask?

The 60 minute Doctor Who Christmas Special was written by Steven Moffat, and it looks like it will be a lot of fun! It stars Matt Lucas (Nardole), Justin Chatwin (Grant a.k.a. The Ghost), Charity Wakefield (Lucy), Tomiwa Edun (Mr Brock), Aleksandar Jovanovic (Dr Sim), and Logan Huffman.

The Doctor Who Christmas Speical will premiere on BBC One on Christmas Day at 5.45pm. I also included a trailer introducing us to the Doctor's new companion.

Three Guys Use Custom Jetpacks to Fly Alongside French Air Force

Remember Yves Rossy, one of the world's leading jet pack fliers whom we wrote about last year? He's baaaaaaack.

Rossy, Vince Reffet, and Fred Fugan from the Jetman Dubai flight team suited up in their custom jet packs, strapped cameras to themselves, and took to the skies to fly alongside fighter jets from the French Air Force. The resulting video is pretty freakin' rad. It's gotta be so awesome to fly using one of those things. It's like multiple Rocketeers exist in real life.

Supreme Leader Snoke Is Said to Be an Animatronic Puppet in STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII

Supreme Leader Snoke is one of the characters in the Star Wars universe who is still shrouded in mystery. He was introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and there's so much that we don't know about him.

All we saw of him was in the form of a giant hologram towering over Kylo Ren and General Hux as he counseled them. The character was played by Andy Serkis, and it was clearly CG motion capture work.

Making Star Wars is now reporting that the villainous character will return for Star Wars: Episode VIII, but apparently this time he will be brought to life in the form of a "huge puppet around seven to eight feet tall, taking several people to operate and a man inside a suit to make him walk." They say that his facial expressions will even be done practically and arebeing operated by a crew on the set, which is pretty damn cool. I imagine that the character will be augmented by some CG work as well.

I love that Lucasfilm and the filmmakers are completely embracing practical effects for these new Star Wars films! There's no word on how big of a role Snoke will play in Episode VIII or how much screen time he'll have in his real life form, but if this is true it will be cool to see!

I imagine that Kylo Ren, General Hux, and Captain Phasma will all at some point have to meet with Snoke to figure out what their next move is after the Resistance blew up their giant Starkiller Base. I wonder if we'll get to see Snoke fight in the film. That would be interesting.

There are so many theories about who Snoke could be, but we'll just have to wait to see if any of them will be proven right. Rian Johnson is directing the film, and it's set to be released on December 15th, 2017.

Cool STAR WARS Fan Film Shows an Impressive Speeder Bike Chase Over Water

Barring something totally unexpected and jaw-dropping, the coolest fan film of the day award goes to the YouTubers over at devinsupertramp for creating this badass Star Wars-themed short that centers on Jetovators (water-powered vehicles) being used as speeder bikes. It's a fun, creative use of technology that I haven't seen in this context before, and the high production value gives the whole thing an added level of believability. And hell, even if you think the acting sucks or it looks like garbage, it's still undeniably cool to see these Jetovators skimming across the top of the water at what appear to be fairly high speeds. Let us know what you think about the short in the comments below.

"Let's play."

Universal Pictures has released a brief teaser for Fast 8 that reveals the true title of the film to be The Fate of the Furious. It also announces that the first full trailer will premiere live this Sunday, December 11th. Judging from what I'm seeing in this preview it looks like it will be another fun, adrenaline-fueled, action-packed movie! We also have the following synopsis offering us our first story details:

Now that Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon and Brian and Mia have retired from the game—and the rest of the crew has been exonerated—the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) seduces Dom into the world of crime he can’t seem to escape and a betrayal of those closest to him, they will face trials that will test them as never before.

From the shores of Cuba and the streets of New York City to the icy plains off the arctic Barents Sea, our elite force will crisscross the globe to stop an anarchist from unleashing chaos on the world’s stage…and to bring home the man who made them a family.

Vin Diesel is joined by a returning all-star cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky, and Kurt Russell. In addition to Theron, the series brings in newcomers Scott Eastwood and Helen Mirren.

The film is directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) and is set to be released on April 14th, 2017.

With all the movie hype surrounding Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, 20th Century Fox doesn't want you to forget about their movie Assassin's Creed, which will be released in theaters shortly after. The studio has released a brand new trailer for the film, and I think it's the best trailer they've cut together yet! It not only gives us a ton of awesome new footage, but it also offers a more detailed explanation of the story. I was looking forward to seeing the film because I'm a fan of the video game franchise, but this trailer actually got me more excited than I've been!

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

Assassin's Creed is set to be released on December 21st. The movie was directed by Justin Kurzel (Snowtown, Macbeth) and stars Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, and more.

Some eagle-eyed fans have spotted a couple fun Easter eggs in the Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer that was released yesterday. In the screenshots below, the appearances of Howard Stark and Bruce Banner have been pointed out.

Howard Stark's face is a part of a mural on the wall of the high school that Peter Parker attends. Then there's Bruce Banner, whose photo appears on the wall of one of Parker's classrooms. He's apparently made such an impact on the world that he has earned a place alongside Albert Einstein, Nikola Tesla, and other great scientists on the classroom wall.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will be released on July 7th, 2017 and fan excitement is exploding right now!

Richard Grant's Villain in LOGAN Revealed

We now know who Richard Grant will be playing in Logan! Slashfilm says Grant will be playing villain Dr. Zander Rice, the scientist who created X-23. In the comics, Rice is the son of a scientist who was a part of the original Weapon X project that created Wolverine. Zander Rice is motivated to take vengeance on Wolverine after his father was murdered by the mutant in his escape from the lab.

So does this mean X-23 will be a villain as well? Who knows how far they'll follow the comic storyline in the film, but I'm sure there will inevitably be conflict between Wolverine and X-23 at some point in the film, don't you agree?

Logan will be released March 3rd, 2017.

Peter Capaldi Still Isn't Sure If He'll Be the Doctor Past 2017

Peter Capaldi hasn't decided whether or not he's done with Doctor Who after his contract is up in 2017. A new report from CBR claims the question of whether to stay or go is completely up to Capaldi, as BBC has indicated they would like him to remain attached to the series...

“I’ve been asked to stay on and I haven’t made my mind up about that yet, mainly because I don’t want to have to make that decision…I’m trying to avoid it!”

Personally, I want Capaldi to stick around and see what he can do with the new showrunner Chris Chibnall. I think a majority of the unpopular segments of Capaldi's run have been primarily due to poor writing and a burnt out Steven Moffat. There are a couple episodes where Capaldi put on an iconic performance ("Into The Dalek" and "Hell Bent," the season nine finale, were amazing) that I think he's more than capable of repeating when given strong storylines.

Do you think Capaldi should stick around past 2017, or is it time to move on?

James Franco Rumored to Appear in ALIEN: COVENANT

There's an interesting rumor that started over at AvPGalaxy. They claim to have knowledge that James Franco will appear in Ridley Scott's highly anticipated film Alien: Covenant.

According to the report, Franco will play a character named Branson, who is the captain of the Covenant and husband of Katherine Waterson’s Daniels. It's said that his appearance will be brief and that he will only be in the first ten minutes of the film and will have small reappearances later on.

There are no details given as to what happens to the character, but he is said to also be appearing in some upcoming viral footage that will be released. I speculate that Franco will play a main role in kicking off the story before he is killed. I also think those appearances that he's supposed to make later on in the film will most likely be video journal type footage with information that will shed some light on a main plot point of the film.

That's just me speculating, but it's a formula in storytelling that we've seen time and time again in films over the years. Film history also shows that Franco wouldn't be the first big star to be killed off in the first ten minutes of film!

Alien: Covenant hits theaters on May 19, 2017.

J.J. Abrams Is Developing a Sci-Fi Series for HBO Called GLARE

J.J. Abrams is teaming up with HBO for a new series project called Glare, and no, the story doesn't revolve around Abrams' signature lens flares. The series is a sci-fi space exploration story about the colonization of another planet.

As of right now, that's the only information regarding the plot that we have so far. Abrams will serve as an executive producer on the series with Ben Stephenson and Javier Gullón, who is writing on the project. He wrote the script for Jake Gyllenhaal's Enemy.

Abrams is currently a producer on the HBO series Westworld, which just concluded its incredible first season! Hopefully he can bring his storytelling magic to this new series. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Zack Snyder Will Direct THE LAST PHOTOGRAPH Before JUSTICE LEAGUE 2, Which Comes Out After THE BATMAN

$

Director Zack Snyder is finally going to take a break from making DC films to focus on a passion project of his called The Last Photograph. He is set to direct this film before he gets to work on Justice League 2

THR reports that Justice League 2 has been pushed back so that Ben Affleck's The Batman can be released before it. This will give Snyder the time he needs to make his other movie, which I imagine would be refreshing for him since he's been working on nothing but DC films since The Man of Steel.

Snyder started developing The Last Photograph in the mid-2000s, after he finished 300. The script for the film was written by Kurt Johnstad (300, 300: Rise of an Empire). The story "centers on a war correspondent in Afghanistan who is the only one to survive an attack on a group of Americans. When a special ops soldier in search of a family member shows up, the two team up, with the correspondent hoping to score the story of his life."

There's no information on who will star in the film at this time, but back in 2011 Christian Bale and Sean Penn were attached to star. The movie will most likely be set up at Warner Bros. since that where Snyder has a first look deal.

I'm actually happy to hear that Snyder is going to be directing a film that doesn't involve superheroes or comic books. This sounds like a solid project, and I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with it.
