More Plot Details for A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD

"Yippee-Ki-Yay Mother Russia!" I hate that tagline by the way, but John Moore's A Good Day to Die Hard looks like it will be entertaining. The response to the trailers has been pretty positive. There's a still a lot about the film we don't know, but thanks to Movie Hole we have some new details on how the story will play out.

The plot, as we have all learned, featured McClane traveling to Russia to be with his son. So what’s going on with his son? What I’m being told is the son of John McClane, Jack, (played by Jai Courtney) is in fact an undercover CIA Operative. Cringe if you will, but this is slightly hinted at in the first teaser trailer released in September where Bruce Willis’ McClane says the line ” The 007 0f Plainfield, New Jersey.” This is referring to where the McClane / Gennaro family originally hail from, the city of Plainfield, NJ and McClane Jr being a secret agent, ala Bond 007.

CIA Agent Jack McClane meets his estranged father, the reluctant hero that is John McClane, in Moscow and who is apparently completely unaware how super-trained an agent his son actually is. Jack is so highly trained, that he’s deep undercover with Russian heavies who have their hands on some nukes, but once his cover is blown, both the younger and older McClanes are left with no alternative than to fend off Russian mobsters aplenty in unfamiliar territory.

The movie comes out on February 14th, and stars Bruce WillisJai Courtney, Sebastian Koch, Yulia Snigir, Cole Hauser, Amaury Nolasco, Megalyn Echikunwoke, and Anne Vyalitsyna. Are you excited about the return of John McClane? What do you think about the whole CIA/son angle?

Here's the Synopsis:

Since the first "Die Hard" in 1988, John McClane has found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, with the skills and attitude to always be the last man standing, making him enemy #1 for terrorists the world over. Now, McClane faces his greatest challenge ever, this time on an international stage, when his estranged son Jack is caught up in the daring prison escape of a rogue Russian leader, and father and son McClane must work together to keep each other alive and keep the world safe for democracy.

NINJASAURAS REX - Awesome Character Art for Dino-Warrior Series!

If you grew up spending Saturday mornings with a bowl of cereal in your lap that would spill onto your pjs while you religiously watched shows like Batman: The Animated Series and Gargoyles, then we have a treat for you! Here's some great looking character art for an original new animated series, Ninjasauras Rex, which is being developed by Emmy Award winning director Frank Paur.

His credits include the aforementioned Batman: The Animated Series and Gargoyles, as well HBO's SpawnX-Men: Evolution, Men In Black: The Series, Hulk Vs. Wolverine, and many more -- essentially, the man shaped and monopolized your childhood. Paur is developing Ninjasauras Rex with frequent collaborator Steven Meyer (The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes).

Here's a short synopsis:

NINJASAURAS REX is a 1/2 hour animated adventure/comedy series that follows the exploits of a Ninja Tyrannosaurus Rex and his teenage sidekick Asper in what at first looks to be Feudal Japan. Throughout the series the heroes and the viewers will explore and discover the complex world of mystery that is the background of NINJASAURAS REX. They will unravel secrets and lies, find new allies, and fight old enemies. They will bring to the world knowledge of their forgotten past and show them the way to a glorious future.

That barely scratches the surface of the unique world that this takes place in. It has all the comedy/action potential of Avatar: The Last Airbender, but with the added promise of exploring not just ancient Asian culture and folklore, but Jurassic Park-type sci-fi elements and human civilization in a post-post apocalyptic world.

Check out the character designs and descriptions and let us know what you think! We'll hopefully be unveiling more from this project in the near future, so stay tuned.

Rex

A T-rex, Rex is retrieved from a forgotten temple as a young hatchling by Asper. More human than animal, Rex has become fiercely protective of Asper and insanely jealous whenever somebody else gets her attention. Trained in the way of the Ninja along with Asper, Rex takes to the teachings eagerly, but often bungles most of his attempts at stealth and martial arts. Luckily, he always has good old stompin’ and chompin’ to fall back on.

Asper

The young girl who finds Rex. She trains side by side with him as a ninja; she is Rex’s mouthpiece. Even though most people only hear a series of grunts coming from the dinosaur, Asper has no trouble understanding what he’s saying, often carrying on complete conversations with Rex to the confusion of  others. As a teenaged girl she can tend to be very cold and calculating, although she has no problem letting her guard down around Rex (Who, compared to Asper, is a cry-baby).

The Emperor

The Emperor is living two lives. To his men and the outside world, he comes off as cruel and scary, but also powerful and smart. But when he is behind closed doors he is a whole mess of neurological disorders and tics. The constant stress of keeping a barely held-together Empire is almost too much for him and over the course of the series he starts to crack more and more. While his men all appear to be ignorant of this, a few of them are suspicious.

Shadow Master

The cruelest and darkest character on the show. Very little humor is to be found in him (Although the fear of lizards thing is kind of funny... until it leads to one of his rages). This is a character who gave up the idea of having a soul very early in the war, and because of it he has gone up in the ranks of the military quickly. But he knows how weak the Emperor truly is, and plans on one day overthrowing him and ruling in his place. But first he has to find the giant lizard that took his arm and get his revenge. A truly terrifying character, undone by his one obsession, the ticking alligator to his Captain Hook.

Ninja Master

Anybody who has seen a Shaw Bros. Kung-fu movie knows this character. Old, cantankerous, yet more wise than anybody could imagine. He guides Asper (And eventually Rex as well) toward being a Ninja. He also has a proclivity towards playful behavior. Although it comes across as strange to the others, his reasons are more sound than they understand.

Cecil (alt. name “Bucket”)

Shadow Master’s right-hand man (the irony of the position is not lost on him). A sniveling sycophant in every manner, he lives to serve and please his master. Has the largest collection of “action figures” (Dolls, really) in the land. Nobody knows that the dolls are really his way of working through a childhood trauma involving his father, a crazed donkey, and a well.

Character Dynamics:

While Rex and Asper share a strong bond, it doesn’t mean they aren’t at each others throats. Occasionally they’re more like siblings than a pet and its owner. Strong-willed Asper thinks she would make a natural leader, but Rex also thinks he would be a natural leader, especially in a world where leading means much stompin’ and chompin’. Thankfully the Ninja Master is there to put them in their place.

And although Rex is a big, scary Dino-warrior... he still has his playful side. If nobody’s watching, he isn’t above chasing a butterfly in a field or doing cannonballs into a lake.

The warring factions would obviously have a mix of dynamics. As mentioned above, sometimes necessity would cause them to form uneasy alliances. Most of the time they are at war. The humor comes from the way the military heads in charge handle the situation compared to the soldiers themselves. More thoughtful and reflective than their leaders, often times the soldiers pass the time by shouting philosophical debates across the battlefield on the finer points of war.

Paul Thomas Anderson Wants to Make an AIRPLANE Type Comedy

Paul Thomas Anderson is a fantastic director and storyteller that has given us films such as Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Punch-Drunk Love, There Will Be Blood, and most recently, The Master. He's not really known for doing comedy, but when he was asked about it in a recent interview with MovieHole, he seemed like he was up for the task, and says it would be something along the lines of the classic comedy Airplane.

You mean like full blown comedy? Soon hopefully.  I have to write it.  It sounds daunting. [laughter]

I’d like to make a film like Airplane. That never gets old. Or Ted.  It was a big hit. Why? Because It’s great. Movies that are that big a hit are never f*cking bad. I mean, there’s no such… You know, people aren’t that stupid, that movie’s a hit because it’s hilarious. I hope [Seth MacFarlane] makes another film.

And I hope that PTA makes a full-blown comedy, because that would be great! The closest thing to a comedy he has made is Punch-Drunk Love, which I really liked. I'm extremely curious to see what kind of comedy PTA would make! I hope he follows through with it. Would you like to see him make a comedy?

Movie Character Dolls Repainted To Look Extremely Lifelike

Here's a collection of photos showing off the work of Noel Cruz, who takes crappy movie character dolls and repaints them to look more lifelike. Some of the dolls include characters from The Lord of the Rings, Twilight, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter and more.

Most movie character dolls or action figures suck. Hot Toys is one of the few collectible toy developers that mostly gets it right, but as you'll see here they don't always get it right. Look over the photos and let us know what you think of the toy repaintings!

Will Boba Fett Appear In The Next Series of STAR WARS Films? It's Possible!!!

$

0

With all the Star Wars news pumping out, I can't help but think about all the characters that were lost in the movies that I will miss in the upcoming films. Yoda, Darth Maul, Jabba The Hutt...all these characters have held a special place in our hearts and have even been given side stories in the expansive universe. Boba Fett is arguably the most famous of these examples...or is he?

We all know that after successfully delivering Han Solo to Jabba The Hutt, Fett went on to fight in the epic battle that ensued only to meet an untimely end at the hands of the Sarlacc due to an accidental rocket malfunction induced by a blind Solo.

In one fell swoop, the galaxy's most celebrated and feared bounty hunter was reduced to nothing more than a brief comical gag. How could that happen to such a fearsome warrior? Undone by an accidental poke and forced to accept his fate in the digestive system of a mouth in the sand?! Doesn't sound like the character he was made out to be...and it wasn't.

In the books, it is revealed that Boba Fett battles his way out of the Sarlacc (which is easier said than done) and returns to what he does best...bounty hunting. Fast forward a little bit past a promise to a dying friend and a war or two later and BOOM! Fett is fighting alongside the New Republic against an invading army that he was once a part of. So yes, Boba Fett eventually becomes a good guy which means there is some possibility of him having at least a cameo in the new series, but if the writers are going to work on an adaptation of the tales of Luke Skywalker after Episode VI....

This means that there will likely be some training of the jedi children of Han and Leia, which leads me to believe Fett could have a much larger role that would fill the role of the bad ass Yoda-type mentor, making fans salivate to no end. If things head the way the books intended, Boba Fett could serve as the master to the daughter of Han and Leia, Jaina.

So could we see a possible reuniting of two old foes on a friendlier ground? It's too soon to tell, but if I were a betting man...I'd say it's a sure thing. If it's not, let's make it known that this is what we want!

Three more TV spots have been released for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, on of them is an extended minute long trailer. There's a bit of new footage here and there, and they remind us that tickets for the movie go on sale today, November 7th! The movie will be released in theaters on December 14th! Did you already buy your tickets?

As for where you will be able to see the film in 48FPS/HFR 3D, word is that Warner Bros/New Line will be running the high frame rate version in only 450 of its 4,000 theaters. I assume those theaters will be in most major cities.

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

Here's a second full trailer for Kim Jee-Woon's awesome looking action film The Last Stand, which features a ton of action-packed new footage. It also gives us a little more insight on the film's plot and villain. I don't know about the rest of you, but I think the movie looks like it will be a ridiculously fun flick! It's scheduled to hit theaters January 18th. Watch the trailer below and get excited for the return of badass Schwarzenegger! The film also stars Forest Whitaker, Johnny Knoxville, Jaimie Alexander, Luis Guzman, Peter Stormare, and Genesis Rodriguez.

Here's the synopsis:

After leaving his LAPD narcotics post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with remorse and regret, Sheriff Ray Owens (Schwarzenegger) moved out of Los Angeles and settled into a life fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction. But that peaceful existence is shattered when Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega), the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the western hemisphere, makes a deadly yet spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy.

With the help of a fierce band of lawless mercenaries led by the icy Burrell (Peter Stormare), Cortez begins racing towards the US-Mexico border at 250 mph in a specially-outfitted Corvette ZR1 with a hostage in tow.  Cortez’ path: straight through Summerton Junction, where the whole of the U.S. law enforcement, including Agent John Bannister (Forest Whitaker) will have their final opportunity to intercept him before the violent fugitive slips across the border forever. At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately rallies his team and takes the matter into his own hands, setting the stage for a classic showdown.

The movie is set to hit theaters again on April 5th, 2013. Next summer will be the film's 20th anniversary, and as much as I don't care for 3D movies, I am excited to see this again on the big screen. It will also be fun for my kids.

A trailer for the re-release will come out tomorrow so stay tuned! Are you looking forward to seeing Jurassic Park back up on the big screen?

Is it really any surprise to you that Zack Snyder's Man of Steel will be be released in 3D? At this point it shouldn't be. Warner Bros. just announced that they will be converting the Superman film to 3D, so that they can charge us more to go see it. Here's Snyder's sales pitch,

The film is going to be a visually exciting experience in all formats: 2D, 3D and IMAX. Anticipating how audiences today embrace 3D, we designed and photographed the movie in a way that would allow ‘Man of Steel’ to captivate those movie goers, while respecting fans who prefer a more traditional cinematic experience. We’ve taken great measures to ensure the film and the story come first, and 3D is meant as an enhancement.

I'll take an IMAX movie showing over a 3D conversion any day. But if my only way to see it in IMAX is in 3D, then I'm stuck between a hard and hard place. What about you? Are you excited to see Man of Steel in 3D!?

Here'd the full Press Release:

Snyder stated, “The film is going to be a visually exciting experience in all formats: 2D, 3D and IMAX. The film stars Henry Cavill in the role of Superman/Clark Kent, alongside three-time Oscar® nominee Amy Adams (“The Fighter”), Oscar® nominee Michael Shannon (“Revolutionary Road”), Academy Award® winner Kevin Costner (“Dances with Wolves”), Oscar® nominee Diane Lane (“Unfaithful”), Oscar® nominee Laurence Fishburne (“What’s Love Got to Do with It”), Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, Harry Lennix, Michael Kelly, Richard Shiff, and Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe (“Gladiator”).

Phillip Noyce To Adapt THE GIVER For The Big Screen

The 1993 young adult book The Giver by Lois Lowry has been trying to get made into a movie for years, and it looks like it's actually going to move into production in the near future. The Weinstein Co. and Walden Media are currently in early talks with Salt director Phillip Noyce to adapt the movie for the big screen. Jeff Bridges was set to star in and produce it over a year ago.

The the book tells a wonderfully fascinating story that follows "a 12-year-old boy who lives in a futuristic utopian society where all memory of human history has been erased. His life is thrown into turmoil when he is designated to inherit the role of the Giver and bear his community's vast range of human emotions, which causes him to realize that living a pain-free life comes at a high cost." The book has sold more than 10 million copies and won the 1994 Newbery Medal.

If you haven't read this book yet, you certainly should, as it's a very powerful story. Bridges, who owns the rights to the book, will play The Giver, a role he initially wanted his father Lloyd to play. The most recent draft of the script was written by Vadim Perelman (House of Sand and Fog).

There's no timeframe on when the movie will go into production, but it will eventually happen. I think Noyce is a solid choice to take on the project, he's also worked on films such as Blind Fury, Patriot Games, Clear and Prent Danger, and many others. What do you think about Noyce possibly directing this film?

Matthew Vaughn Leaving X-MEN For THE SECRET SERVICE Is Old News

$

There's a hot new topic on movie blogs today, with people saying that Matthew Vaughn left X-Men: Days of Future Past so that he could work on a movie called The Secret Service, based on a comic he co-created with Mark Millar. I have no idea why this news is being reported today, because it was reported the same day that he left the X-Men project. I guess everyone overlooked that part? Hell, it was in the first paragraph of the article I wrote about his departure. This is what came straight out of Deadline two weeks ago,

Vaughn will do another film for Fox, and I’m hearing it will be the drama Secret Service, an adaptation of the Mark Millar comic book series that Vaughn has been working on with the author.

This is one of the reasons I questioned him being up for the Star Wars directing gig. Oh well, I guess news travels slowly when people don't pay attention to the details. In a recent interview with CBR, Millar confirmed the news that Vaughn left X-Men to work on The Secret Service saying,

What we’re doing is that ‘Kick-Ass 2′ is filming now, and next year we’ll start production on ‘Secret Service’ which I did with Dave Gibbons, and Matthew and I have been talking about that for years. We thought Matthew was going to do X-Men first, but we found out there were actually a few imitators of ‘Secret Service’ in the works. People think you’re lying when you say you’re not trying to get your comics made into movies so quickly, but the two reasons it happens like that is first because it’s the best ad for the comic you’ll ever have. And for me, selling the book is the most important thing. The second reason is because people are always trying to rip you off. Somebody will start to work on a spec screenplay about your idea. There are three other projects I know of now about a James Bond kind of guy taking a street kid and turning him into a spy. Three screenplays were already going through Hollywood about this! So Matthew and I said, ‘F*ck this. We’re not letting anyone steal our ideas.’

The Secret Service has been described as Vaughn and Millar's version of Marvel's  S.H.I.E.L.D. You can read a little bit more about the Secret Service project here if you want

It would be pretty awesome to see Vaughn take on Star Wars, but if he's rushing to get The Secret Service made, then that probably won't happen. I'm sure Secret Service will end up being a hell of good movie though! What are your thoughts on all this?

Sam Mendes Explains Why He Passed On THE AVENGERS

$

Skyfall director Sam Mendes was one of many that Marvel approached to direct The Avengers. In a recent interview with Moviefone, Mendes explained the package Marvel sent him to try to spark his interest, and why he turned it down.

With a lot of these movies, the date’s announced before anything exists, let alone a script. The funniest letter I got -- they were sending [a packet for] 'The Avengers,' right? For directors to pitch -- and I got a package, which was full of comic books, but no treatment; there was no script. But the cover letter said 'Marvel’s 'Avengers' will be released on May 3, 2012' or whatever it was. That was the first sentence of the cover letter. Not, 'We have the pleasure of enclosing the materials..." or "Here is the script for...' But the release date. That was the first sentence.

It really is kind of silly for any studio to set a release date before anything has even been started, but I guess Marvel has been pulling it off. I just can't help but think though... how much more awesome would these movies be if they spent a little more time developing them. I'm still incredibly happy with what Joss Whedon did with The Avengers, and I can't imagine anyone else taking it on. I just think it's funny that Mendes turned it down due to the studio's lack of preparation for a movie they already set a release date for. Mendes was then asked how he feels about being compared to Christopher Nolan to which he replied,

Well, he’s the man, isn’t he? I think he’s amazing. This movie would not have been possible, I think, at least in the way that it is, without 'The Dark Knight.' We’re living in a world now where movies are either tiny or huge and there’s nothing in the middle. I mean, the movies that I made for ten years, I can’t make those anymore. I couldn’t make 'American Beauty,' I couldn’t make 'Road to Perdition'; they just don’t make those films. [Nolan] showed that you could make a movie -- that is a world class movie, that has in it some sense of reaction, reflection of the world that we live in -- without being ponderous or po-faced or take itself too serious. And it had great acting, and I mean that. I mean, Heath Ledger, that is a great performance. That was a game changer for me, as an audience member. I just thought, 'Wow. That’s a proper movie.'

Mendes is a great director, and I've enjoyed all of the films he's made over the years. I can't wait to see what he did with Skyfall for myself, but I hear it's amazing. What do you think about Mendes and the reason he turned down The Avengers?

WALKING DEAD Actors Talk About Their Characters' Deaths

$

Spoilers Ahead for those who haven't watched the last episode of The Walking Dead...

Last Sunday's episode was extremely shocking and heartbreaking. Two major characters died, and the series will movie forward, but it will never be the same.

T-Dog (IronE Singleton) heroically died as he was torn to pieces and eaten by zombies to save Carol, and Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) died while giving birth to her newborn baby. A death which didn't follow the comics, but I thought it was more powerful. Lori tells Maggie to cut out the baby and says goodbye to Carl, who then is forced to put a bullet into his mom's head to keep her from turning into a zombie.

In a recent conference call interview, Sarah Wayne Callies talked about her characters death, and the process they went through to develop it.

Lori's death is very unique, I think, among the one's we've had on The Walking Dead because it's one that she's chosen. So it's an interesting tone because it's not surrounded by quite the same level of crisis and panic, although she's clearly in a situation where things are going to go badly with or without her choice.

For those of you who aren't reading the comics, Comics Lori is shot and killed by the Governor while holding the baby. So the fact that Lori died without meeting the Governor, and that the baby survives, will definitely take the series in a whole new direction. When Darabont was working on the show, he was looking for a way around Lori's death,

Frank [Darabont] and I talked a lot about the necessity of Lori dying and he fought me on it. He said he thought he had a way around it. We never got a chance to see how that would work out.

After he left, Glen Mazzara took over, and that's where the real discussion about her character began.

Glen [Mazzara] and I talked about it a lot, not just what that scene would be like, but how we owned that moment through the first two episodes of the season because originally there was a different timeline and we had longer to build to that moment. And so when it got shortened we talked about what we needed, what pieces had to be in place both for Lori and Carl and for Rick for his development later in this season.

And it is an intimate process because Glen lost his mother shortly before we started writing this season. So I was very aware that this was a scene that he had written about a woman saying goodbye to her son, having just said goodbye to his mother and heard many of those words. We worked the actual script. We batted ideas and lines back and forth for about two weeks and what we shot was a combination of those efforts.

There were a couple of things that I said that weren't on the page, but were a product of sitting with Chandler in a room and trying to say goodbye to him. And, you know, it's just a great gift of a scene to me as an actor. Not that it's all about me, but I'm an actor. So it's all about me, right?

So how does she feel about leaving the show?

The great gist of that scene to me was that I got to say everything I wanted to say to him and to the show and to the cast. And, you know, people ask me, 'How does it feel to leave the show?' And I just want to say, 'Well, watch the episode.' You'll know exactly how I feel because it's all there. And for many of the other deaths that have come and that will come who don't have that opportunity.

There were some very specific things that mattered to me to find with Lori in the third season and redemption was a big part of that. A sense of redemption in her marriage and a sense of redemption with Carl. And while I don't think either of those were achieved completely, because that would tie things up in a package that is far too neat for our show ... we took steps down that path in a way that I think not only dramatically changes the show, but in a way that I'm grateful too personally because I have such profound affection for Lori.

IronE Singleton then went on to talk about the death of T-Dog, and how he feels about being killed off.

I am totally and completely satisfied with how the show ran. I think that the show was a success of a brilliant team of individuals, everybody coming together doing their part. ... It's not my call to really say that I wanted more or less or anything like that. I'm just so pleased to have been part of something so special, so historical," said Singleton, in a conference call with journalists.

I had no idea I was going to go out so heroically, at the beginning, because when I was first cast in the show I was told that I would do two, maybe three episodes. But I ended up staying on the show for three seasons. So how miraculous is that? So I'm very thankful for that, and when I get the phone call, the death call I call it. ... They told me I was going to die and I was looking forward to reading the script. When I read it I was thankful that he would go out heroically. So it made me feel really appreciated.

I think it was very liberating because as an actor you start with a clean slate and there's nothing more liberating about starting with something that is not written. So you pretty much create the history of that character; you create that character's rigor, meaning that character's life story.

So whatever you do, whatever you come up with, whatever you decide on, we can go with it and if the director or if the execs they like it, then you'll stick with it. So that's a good thing as opposed to having something that's already written, that's paired down with who your character is. Then you're kind of sticking in a sense to a certain extent.

What did you all think about the deaths of Lori and T-Dog?

Dwayne Johnson Officially Cast In Brett Ratner's HERCULES... Again

Earlier this year, it was reported that Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson finalized his deal to take on the lead role in Brett Ratner's Hercules project, now it looks like the deal has been finalized for a second time?! The internet is a mad beast. I'm not even sure why this story is news today, because it was news back in March.

Oh well, it's being reported once again just for the hell of it. I guess it's a reminder to let you know again that Johnson will be playing Hercules in what I'm sure will turn out to be a terrible film -- especially with Ratner at the helm.

The movie is based on the Hercules comic books published by Radical Publishing. There were two series; The Thracian Wars and The Knives of Kush, written by Steve Moore with art by Cris Bolsin. Here's the description of The Thracian Wars, which is the series the movie will be based on:

Fourteen-hundred years ago, a tormented soul walked the Earth that was neither man nor god. Hercules, powerful son of the god king Zeus, received nothing but suffering his entire life. After twelve arduous labors and the loss of his family, this dark, world-weary soul turned his back on the gods, finding his only solace in bloody battle. Over the years he warmed to the company of six similar souls, their only bond being their love of fighting and the presence of death. These men and woman never question where, why, or whom they go to fight; only how much they will be paid. Knowing this, the King of Thrace has hired these mercenaries to train his men to become the greatest army of all time. Hercules begins to question King Cotys' motives when he takes his army out to battle and sees them practice on innocent men, women, and children of their neighbors. Deep in his soul something stirs, but is it enough to stop a mad king and his army of the damned from marching across Greece - or even Olympus itself?!

I don't know about you, but I'm more excited to see Arnold Schwarzenegger reprise his role as Conan! What do you think about Johnson playing Hercules for Ratner? Do you think there's a chance it will be a good film?

A new image from Robert Rodriguez' Machete Kills has been released featuring Alexa Vega as the character Killjoy. To put things in perspective, this is the same little girl who starred in the Spy Kids movies, but as you can see, she's not a little kid anymore. Is it just me, or is it weird when kids grown up and get sexy? What do you think of Vega's look? Would you run into a gunfight wearing that outfit?

Machete Kills features our hero Machete, who is recruited by the U.S. government and battles his way through Mexico in order to take down an arms dealer who looks to launch a weapon into space. Danny Trejo is set to reprise his role alongside Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez. New cast members include Demián Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara and Mel Gibson.

The photo is from Rolling Stone and was tweeted out by Vega.

Four great looking new banners have been released for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Jouney, which will be released in theaters on December 14th. It would nice to see these in higher resolution.

Here's a fun paper craft project, called Psycho - Homage to Hitchcock, created by Davy and Kristin McGuire. The video was created as a Research and Development piece for The Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust Award. They used paper craft and miniature projection mapping to make the short, which as you'll see turned out pretty cool. Click here to see some "making of" pictures to help give you a sense of scale. MEDAL OF HONOR: WARFIGHTER: A Story Worth Experiencing

First and foremost, these are only my impressions on the single player campaign. While I did get some time with the multiplayer beta, I didn't feel it was enough to really formulate a solid opinion, so I'll leave that to someone else. Honestly that's not why I enjoyed Medal of Honor 2010, and it wasn't what I was looking forward to in Warfighter either. What sold me on the campaign was how invested I became in just a few hours in the lives of Voodoo, Mother, Preacher, and Stump (okay, maybe not Stump). Compare that to my time with Price, Soap, and the rest of the gang in Modern Warfare, and there is no doubt in my mind as to which one I preferred. Not saying I didn't enjoy those games immensely, I just wasn't as invested in those games.

Part of that is due to the small moments that happen in between the firefights. While there aren't a great deal of these scenes, the ones that are present honestly convey how much these guys sacrifice. On top of putting their lives on the line they also put their lives on hold. Their marriages, their kids, their friends, all the things we hold dear and in many cases take for granted. All of those freedoms are put on the back burner for the safety and well-being of our country, and I think Warfighter is the first game in recent memory that really drives that point home in a compelling way (sorry, Lee Greenwood moment over). No spoilers here, but I felt like I got a glimpse of Preacher and Mother's lives when out of uniform, and ultimately the message that for guys like these there really isn't any time out of uniform, just small moments to actually enjoy what you're fighting for. It might not be your cup of tea, but I applaud what developer Danger Close was attempting to convey.

With all due credit given to the narrative however, it is a game. As such, there are issues that need to be addressed. Given the size and scope of the day 1 patch, I was surprised at how many technical problems the game had. Scenes not loading correctly, clicking audio, and sometimes audio not coming through at all, as well as random freezing all popped up during gameplay. None of these glitches frustrated me more though than my squadmates' lack of common sense. You would think I was on the opposing side with the amount of times they would shove me out of a particular spot or sometimes out of cover completely. One time I was by a wall in cover, and my guy bum rushed me into the corner (because evidentially we can't share a wall), where I spent the next 20 minutes hopping, sprinting, and ducking until I finally had to reload an old save. For as long as the list of patch fixes was, you get the feeling that the list actually needed to be longer. When things worked correctly I enjoyed the combat and the feel of the weapons. I frequently picked up enemy guns just to see how they handled, and I enjoyed the heavy emphasis on cover as well. Also of note are the small breaks from normal combat, and while I won't say why they happen, at certain points you take control of a boat as well as your remote controlled scout bot. I was surprised at how much fun I had driving the former, but sadly the bot left something to be desired. He doesn't control as smoothly as you'd like, and while that might be more realistic, I was perfectly happy to get past those parts and move on.

Another surprise was just how pretty this game is, especially after my time with the underwhelming map in the beta. Frostbite 2.0 is capable of some fantastic visuals, and they were put to good use in the campaign. The character models are also well done, but two things kept coming to mind throughout: 1. Evidently all soldiers are exactly the same height. 2. The female character models could have used a bit more work. They weren't terrible by any means, but in some instances (especially when the young child is present), they varied from slightly off to kind of creepy.

While some of these problems do rear their heads more than I'd like, I truly don't regret my time with Warfighter. The 7 to 8 hour campaign was memorable and yes, fun as well. It has its share of flaws, but they didn't overshadow my fun with the game. Whether it's worth a full $60, that you will have to judge for yourself. What I can say is that there is a game worth playing here, and if you have some free time you might want to consider giving it a shot.

So, has anyone else played the campaign? Let us know what you thought about it in the comments!
