CHRONICLE Writer Max Landis to Direct Comedy ME HIM HER

Chronicle screenwriter Max Landis is about to direct his first feature film project. He will direct a comedy called Me Him Her, which will focus on sexual identity.

Variety describes the movie as "Reality Bites on acid," and that the story is a "quarter-life-crisis tale set in Los Angeles that features three young leads, at least one of whom is struggling with their sexuality. Exploring sex, love and friendship in what Landis describes as 'the weirdest, most surreal way possible,' the story ultimately emphasizes that conceptions of self should be flexible." Landis gives some more details saying, "It's totally insane! The devil is in it." Not much more has been released on what the movie is about.

The director is currently casting the film which is being produced by Big Beach Film, which is the same company that brought us the great indie sci-fi romance film Safety Not Guaranteed. Apparently, Landis is using the logline from Return of the Jedi to throw people off.

The movie is scheduled to start production next spring or summer when Landis is finished wrapping up his prior commitments. He's also working on a remake of Frankenstein, a sequel to Chronicle, and an adventure film called Woogles with Timur Bekmambetov. Universal and Imagine are producing Landis' script Amnesty, and RCR Pictures is looking for a director for his action-comedy Good Time Gang. Landis is also writing a top-secret project for Disney. I'm sure some people will speculate that it's Star Wars Episode VII, but I don't think that is the case.

What do you think about Landis' new project? I'm curious to see where Landis' career goes. He's got a lot of stuff in the works, and it will be interesting to see how these other films he's working on turn out.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: BLOOD AND CHROME New Trailer and Premiere Date

$

The long awaited Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome series has a new trailer and a release date! The series wasn't picked up by SyFy, but the two hour pilot episode will now be released online as a web-series on Machinima's YouTube channel. The first episode of the series will be released online this Friday, November 9th. The rest of the episodes will premiere over the next four weeks. It's set to air on the SyFy Channel in early 2013, followed by the release of an ‘unrated’ version on DVD and Blu-ray. I think it looks really good!

Here's the Synsopsis:

Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome" takes place in the 10th year of the first Cylon war. As the battle between humans and their creation, the sentient robotic Cylons, rages across the 12 colonial worlds, a young, talented fighter pilot, William Adama (Luke Pasqualino), finds himself assigned to one of the most powerful Battlestars in the Colonial fleet: the Galactica. Full of ambition and in pursuit of the intense action that the Cylon war promises, Adama quickly find himself at odds with Coker (Ben Cotton), the battle-weary officer to whom he reports. With 47 days left in his tour of duty, Coker desires an end to battle just as much as Adama craves the start of it. Though they clash at first, the two men forge an unlikely bond when a routine mission turns dangerous and becomes a pivotal one for the desperate fleet.

Joining Pasqualino and Cotton in the cast is Lili Bordan, who will play Dr. Beka Kelly, a Ph.D. who worked for Graystone Industries that created the Cylon robots. Currently assigned to a secret military mission, Beka and Adama quickly establish a rapport.

Mark Stern, Syfy programming president and co-head of original content at UCP, had this to say...

With its top-notch storytelling, pulse-pounding action, and cutting-edge visual effects, Blood & Chrome is the perfect extension of the Battlestar Galactica universe.

I'm a huge fan of the Battlestar Galactica series, and I'm excited to see this new chapter of the story! Check out the new trailer, and tell us what you think!

Amazingly Cool R2-D2 Themed Vespa

Check out this incredibly cool custom made R2-D2 themed Vespa created by Morgan, a fifth grade school teacher and obvious Star Wars geek. Here's a note from its creator,

I am a fifth grade teacher/SW nerd, and I recently converted my Vespa that I ride into work every day to look like the one and only R2. This was done with adhesive vinyl, some meticulous cutting and a 12-pack of beer. It gets a lot of looks and thumbs up, and often times while I am sitting at a stop light someone crossing the street will pause to take notice. The rear trunk is a real vintage piece and I removed the original faded travel stickers and replaced them with various retro style Star Wars art and posters that I found on the internet.

If I had any Star Wars geeks as teachers, I never knew it. As I think back at all the teachers I had in school growing up, they all seemed pretty dull. Did you ever have a hardcore geeky school teacher? What do you think of the Star Wars Vespa makeover?

The first full track from Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has been released. The musical score was brought to life by film composer Howard Shore, and this particular piece is called "Radagast The Brown". One of my favorite parts about the Lord of the Rings trilogy was the soundtrack. I still listen to it from time to time, and it sounds like the soundtrack for The Hobbit is going to be just as good!

Now this is only just one track, but stay tuned because GeekTyrant will be exclusively premiering a lot more of the music from the film on our SoundTrax Podcast, which you should definitely be listening to if you're not already! We've got a ton of great movie music for you to listen to! To check out all of our episodes click here.

SUMMER SCHOOL Remake Has Writers

Adam Sandler's remake of the the 1987 comedy Summer School is moving forward as Bryan Shukoff and Kevin Chesley have been hired to write it.

The original film was great! It starred Mark Harmon as a gym teacher who was forced to cancel his summer plans to teach a remedial English class full of lazy, troublemaker students.

As of right now, Sandler is only attached as a producer, but there's a chance he could end up starring in the film. I could easily see him in the lead role -- it can't be any worse than anything else he's done recently. This is one of those films I figured would get remade one day. I guess it will be interesting to see how things turn out with it. Paramount has been trying to do this one since 2005. Star Trek writers and producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci were actually developing the movie at one point.

Shukoff and Chesley don't have much under their belt. Their resume includes three episodes of an MTV comedy series that I've never seen called The Hard Times of RJ Berger, and a film being developed over at Fox called From Mia With Love.

What do you think about Summer School getting the remake treatment?

Alex Proyas to Direct the Tech Thriller AMPED

Robopocalypse author Daniel H. Wilson is making a deal with Working Title Films to adapt his technological thriller Amped as a feature film. Dark City director Alex Proyas has signed on to direct the film, which is set in the near future. The story imagines a world where nanotech-enhanced people and ordinary humans are at war with one another.

Summit Entertainment previously held the rights but never did anything with it, so now Working Title will have a chance to take it on. It sounds like it could be a pretty cool movie! The story definitely seems to fit Proyas' imagination and style.

Wilson's Robopocalypse is set to be adapted by Steven Spielberg and is scheduled to be released in summer 2014.

Here's the description of the book:

Technology makes them superhuman. But mere mortals want them kept in their place. The New York Times bestselling author of Robopocalypse creates a stunning, near-future world where technology and humanity clash in surprising ways. The result? The perfect summer blockbuster.

As he did in Robopocalypse, Daniel Wilson masterfully envisions a frightening near-future world. In Amped, people are implanted with a device that makes them capable of superhuman feats. The powerful technology has profound consequences for society, and soon a set of laws is passed that restricts the abilities—and rights—of "amplified" humans. On the day that the Supreme Court passes the first of these laws, twenty-nine-year-old Owen Gray joins the ranks of a new persecuted underclass known as "amps." Owen is forced to go on the run, desperate to reach an outpost in Oklahoma where, it is rumored, a group of the most enhanced amps may be about to change the world—or destroy it.

Have any of you read the book? If so, do you think Proyas is a good director to bring it to life?

THE CAMPAIGN Blu-ray Review

$

The Campaign has arrived on Blu-ray just in time for the real elections. If you are tired of watching the real candidates take each other apart with their advertising, then why not watch two fake pundits face off in this relevant comedy. Jay Roach directs Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis in the leads. The supporting cast is equally stellar, and includes Jason Sudeikis, Dylan McDermott, Dan Aykroyd, Brian Cox and John Lithgow. There is something for everyone in this film, no matter which political leanings you follow. So sit back, relax and get ready to be bombarded with silly humor and a few belly laughs in this lampooning of politics.

The film follows North Carolina Congressman Cam Brady (Ferrell) who is running unopposed for the sixth consecutive term. Despite one scandal after another, Brady continues to find a way into office. That changes when he gets on the bad side of two billionaires, Wade (Aykroyd) and Glen Motch (Lithgow). They search for a candidate to run against Brady, but come up with City of Hammond tourism director Marty Huggins (Galifianakis). In order to turn Huggins into a politician, they bring in cutthroat campaign manager Tim Wattley (McDermott). Wattley teaches the mild-mannered Huggins to be an aggressive politician. Brady and Huggins go head-to-head in one of the dirtiest campaigns you could ever imagine.

I loved watching this in the theater, but I always enjoy a second viewing of comedies because it seems like there is always something I overlooked the first time. The Campaign is no exception. This is not a must-own unless you are a super fan of Ferrell or Galifianakis. However, it is a must-watch for the fact that it has such a great cast and quite a few laugh out loud moments.

The disc has a few noteworthy special features. The best of the bunch has to the be the four minute long gag reel. The disc comes with an extended cut of the movie that adds eleven minutes of laughs -- but I can understand why they were cut. I actually enjoyed the theatrical version the way it is. The obligatory deleted scenes segment is rather long at 16 minutes, and has nine scenes in total. I also enjoyed the Line-O-Rama, which features Ferrell and Galifianakis doing a bunch of improv.
There are much better political comedies out there, but this one is at least worth a watch. Did you see The Campaign in theaters? Are you thinking of buying this on Blu-ray?

Carrie Fisher Says She'd Return For STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

We're all incredibly excited and curious to see what happens with the return of Star Wars! We've heard that the original cast could be part of Episodes 7, 8 and 9. We know Mark Hamill would return, Harrison Ford recently said that he's open to the idea, and now Carrie Fisher seems like she would gladly return to reprise her role as Princess Leia.

TMZ recently caught up with Fisher, asked how it felt to be a Disney Princess, and if she would reprise her role if asked to return to the Star Wars franchise. Her reply..."Yes, sure. Wouldn't you?"

Fisher has already reprised her role twice in the past doing voice work for the Robot Chicken Star Wars Special and the Family Guy Star Wars special "It's a Trap"!

I can't wait to see what exactly is in store for us with these new Star Wars movies! What do you think of Fisher possibly reprising her role?

PLAYSTATION: THE OFFICIAL MAGAZINE is Closing Its Doors

Yesterday was a busy news day in terms of things other than video games. Well, video games were bustling too, but all eyes were on the two potential leaders of our country. While Halo 4 and LittleBigPlanet Karting may have come out (two big releases), the polls were the main discussion of the day.

What I am trying to say, is that, with all the information hitting the web on Election Day, you might have missed a rather big announcement: Playstation: The Official Magazine is closing its doors at the end of this year. A moment of silence, please.

Originally called, The Playstation Magazine, this periodical was formed in 1997. It wouldn't be until 2007 when the name was changed to Playstation: The Official Magazine. The first cover featured Final Fantasy VII, and the magazine promised all the PS1 codes. Ah, those were the days.

As a Sony enthusiast, I was a subscriber to the magazine for awhile. I enjoyed PS:TOM because it kept me up to date with not only the games I cared about the most, but also delved into some tech stuff and Blu Ray reviews. But, the internet changed things and magazines started to become irrelevant. News was better online and it was up to date. I didn't want to wait a month anymore to read some publication that was going to be dated by the time it got into my hands. That's just the way it is now.

The last issue for Playstation: The Official Magazine will be their Holiday 2012 issue. No comment has been followed up by the magazine yet. I assume it might be a few weeks before they say anything.

This was also reported by Game Informer, which probably makes them nervous over in those offices. Yes, I know they have a digital magazine now, but that doesn't mean they are saved.

Do any of you have fond memories of Playstation: The Official Magazine?

David Yates Officially Directing TARZAN

After a few years and many directors attached - Gary Ross, Susanna White and Craig Brewer - Harry Potter director David Yates will officially direct Warner Bros.' new Tarzan film, written by Brewer. As to who will play the famous man of the jungle, Yates will meet with several actors including the new Superman, Henry Cavill (Man of Steel), Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim) and Alexander Skarsgård of True Blood. Warner Bros. has been rumored to be desperately seeking Tom Hardy for Tarzan, after his roles in their films The Dark Knight Rises and Inception

There is already another Tarzan film coming, in 3D motion capture with Twilight's Kellan Lutz as Tarzan, in a modern day setting. Yates' Tarzan will maintain the period setting of Burroughs' novels. I'm particularly excited to see a live-action Tarzan back on the big screen, especially with Brewer's involvement. Among the actors mentioned, who would you like to see cast as the King of the Apes?

WRECK-IT RALPH 2 Could Explore Online Gaming

$

Disney's Wreck-It Ralph was a freakin' great movie, and I'd seriously love to see a sequel. Director Rich Moore recently talked about the possibility of a sequel with Gamer Hub TV and offered up a concept of where we could see the story go, and the next chapter would most likely take us into the world of online gaming, which would be great! Here's rundown of what Moore said,

Should we be so lucky to do a sequel, I think it’d be great to explore online gaming, home games. We have some ideas of how we could, it was fun to begin it in an arcade, and I think that that really tapped into the nostalgia that that has attached to it.

But if we were to do a sequel I think we need to bring it up to date. We’re working on ideas, should we do one, that would bring it more into modern gaming, not just arcade cabinets.

Online gaming would be the next logical step as arcades are kind of dying off. Would you like to see a Wreck-It Ralph 2? How do you feel about them taking the story into online gaming? What new characters would you like to see in a sequel?

101 Greatest Movie Villains - Video Supercut

The 101 greatest movie villains have all been compiled into a single video supercut created by YouTuber Critica Daquele Filme, and I believe they included all of the good ones. I would have added King Longshanks from Braveheart, and taken out the monster from Frankenstein because he wasn't really a villain. What villains would you add or take away from this video list?

INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US - Mechanics and Capes Discussed in Dev Diary

Injustice: Gods Among Us is the new "2D" fighting game from NetherRealm Studios. As you may already know, this is the same studio that is responsible for the Mortal Kombat "reboot." This time they aren't pitting Scorpion and Jax against each other, but instead they have pulled the best DC superheroes out to kick each other's faces in. This game looks to be every nerd's dream.

This Dev Diary speaks to the changes the team has made to the mechanics of the game as well as the importance of the environments in the matches. Oh, and about 3/4 of the team has some sort of facial hair. Also, where did Ed Boon go?

Which character are you most excited to play as?

Thanks to the Internet, Mark Wahlberg Might Be in TRANSFORMERS 4

Last month a rumor hit the internet that Mark Wahlberg was in talks to join Michael Bay's Transformers 4. Bay quickly went on his blog and said that it wasn't true, and that they were collaborating on a different project. Today Bay is back on his blog, hinting that Wahlberg might end up in the film after all! Here's what he said,

I squashed a rumor that was on the internet last week. It was about Mark Walhberg. Mark was rumored to be staring in Transformers 4. We are working on another movie together, not T4. I had such a great time working with Mark on Pain and Gain, and he gave such a great performance – well let’s say that very internet chatter gave me some ideas. We are at the inception of our story process right now on T4. Let’s say some ideas are gaining traction with me and my writer – so I’m here to say thanks internet chatter.

So it sounds like the internet just got Wahlberg cast in the movie. Now that the film is moving forward with the possibility of Wahlberg starring in it what do you think!? Are you happy or pissed at the internet right now?

Transformers 4 is currently in development for a June 27th, 2014 release. There's no word on whether this will be Bay's last Transformers movie or not, but probably not.

Neil Gaiman's New DOCTOR WHO Episode Includes The Cybermen!

Earlier this year we learned that Neil Gaiman is writing another episode of Doctor Who for its seventh season. We now have a some detail on what that story will involve!

Executive producer Steven Moffat has confirmed Gaiman's statements that he is writing a script for the current season and that it features the return of the Cybermen! The Cyborg villains have been trying to take down the crime lord since 1966, and they were last seen in 2011's episode "Closing Time."

Deadline reports that the episode will air next spring on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US. It will co-star Life’s Too Short‘s Warwick DavisEastEndersTamzin Outhwaite, and Being Human‘s Jason Watkins. The episode will the directed by Stephen Woolfenden, a second unit director on some of the Harry Potter films.

Gaiman won a Hugo Award for the last episode he wrote, "The Doctor's Wife," and I can't wait to see how he tackles the Cybermen! Are you excited to hear that Gaiman's episode will include the Cybermen?

Jon Heder Can Still Do The Napoleon Dynamite Dance

Napoleon Dynamite was a small film that took pop culture by storm in 2005. The film's stupid yet hilarious humor struck a cord with teenagers. The film led to Jon Heder landing roles in films like Just Like Heaven, Monster House, School for Scoundrels, and Blades of Glory. Heder recently reprised his title role in the animated series adapation of Napoleon Dynamite (created by Jared Hess, the film's director). He was joined by the entire cast of the original film. It ran for a few months on FOX before it was canceled due to low ratings.

The most memorable scene in the film is when Napoleon breaks into a skilled dance routine (to the tune of "Canned Heat") to help his friend Pedro. Still, all these years later, Heder was trained so well that he can actually replicate the dance even today. Attending a public screening of Napoleon Dynamite, Heder was filmed doing the dance alongside the film.

Is this cool or what?
