Some new photos have surfaced from Tim Burton's Superman Lives. The project was set to star Nicolas Cage and got as far as the design and costume development phase before it stopped. These images from TimBurton.JP show toy concept designs from the project.

This suit below is worn by Superman in the rejuvenation chamber at the Fortress of Solitude. It has all sorts of cool Kryptonian technology, "including triangular-shaped energy ports for “plugging” Superman into the Eradicator technology (for restoration of his powers).":

Below is a special suit "made from Eradicator technology that restores Superman’s powers during the darkness on Earth":
Superman wears the suit below in the beginning of the movie, until his “death. It ”reflects an updated 90’s look” compared to Superman’s traditional suit:
For more cool stuff check out TimBurton.JP. It would have been cool to see how the project would have looked. What are your thoughts?

For those of you geeks out there looking to get your Star Wars fix for the day, here's a great documentary called The Mythology of Star Wars that you can watch right now in its entirety. The doc includes commentary by George Lucas as he talks about the mythology behind the Star Wars universe. There's actually some really interesting stuff discussed in this video so I think it's worth watching.

Here's the Synopsis:

Bill Moyers joined George Lucas at Skywalker Ranch in northern California to talk about the ancient myths and personal values that have synthesized into Star Wars. The epic themes in Lucas' cinematic stories are a springboard for a candid conversation about family, fatherhood, spiritual beliefs, and the importance of moral tales for every generation. Intercut with movie footage from the original trilogy as well as the prequel, The Mythology of Star Wars with George Lucas and Bill Moyers provides a revealing journey in the company of the filmmaker through some of the most famous scenes of the Star Wars saga.

Taylor Swift to Play Eponine in LES MISERABLES

Director Tom Hooper is obviously in the heat of casting his upcoming musical film version of Les Miserables. We reported earlier that Amanda Seyfried was offered the role of Cosette in the film, and now it's being reported that Taylor Swift has been offered the part of Eponine. She beat out other actresses up for the role that included Lea Michele, Scarlett Johansson, and Evan Rachel Wood. If she ends up taking the role she will join Hugh Jackman, Helena Bonham Carter, Russell Crowe, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Anne Hathaway.

Swift has got a great voice, but I'm not sure about her acting abilities. In the end, this is a musical, and I think she will be able to pull off the part if she decides to take. Her two major songs in the film are "On My Own" and "A Little Fall of Rain."

The story follows convict Jean Valjean, played by Jackman, who is on the run from his nemesis, Inspector Javert, played by Crowe. According to a recent report Hooper wants the actors to sing their parts in the film, while shooting, without the use of voice doubles.

Here's "On My Own," the song that she would sing in the film. In this video the song is being preformed by Samantha Barks.

Upcoming Action Films and Comedies Get Classy Poster Designs

$

Here's a fun series of classy poster art for upcoming films that wouldn't really be considered classy. Some of these films include The Expendables 2, which is given a parody poster design like The Artist and John Carter, which has a J. Edgar feel. Underworld Awakening, Battleship, Wrath of the Titans, The Three Stooges, and more all given classy looking posters that in no way fit the attitude of the films at all.

Here's a note from the poster creators at The Shiznit explaining why the did what they did...

The Oscars are looming on the horizon, frightening studios into releasing their prestige pictures; hence an influx of 'serious' films like The Iron Lady, J. Edgar and The Artist. Their posters are elegant and striking. "Mute those colours!" yell the designers. "Fancy up that font!" You can spot an Oscar-grab a mile off. They usually say 'Clint Eastwood' on the poster.

This is all well and good for serious dramas, but how does the humble action movie get noticed? Here's what I propose: take your gun-toting, vampire-slaying, universe-saving heroes and slap them on a classy-ass poster to grab the attention of the cinephiles. Look how easy it is...

Check out all the poster designs below and let us know what you think. I honestly don't think these posters make the movies look any better. I will say, Underworld Awakening is my favorite poster design of the bunch. What is your favorite?

Lily Collins Cast in EVIL DEAD Reboot

The Sam Raimi-produced Fede Alvarez-directed reboot has landed its first lead actress! According to Bloody-Disgusting, Mirror Mirror and Blind Side actress Lily Collins is in final negotiations to play the lead character Mia in the film.

The story follows five friends (David, Natalie, Eric, Olivia, and Mia) who hole up at a remote cabin where they discover a Book of the Dead. A demonic force is unleashed, possessing each until only one is left to fight for survival. Other information on the film reveals that the lead character takes his younger sister to the family's cabin to help her kick her drug addiction. Without her drugs she becomes insane and difficult to control, which makes it impossible to see that she's actually possessed.

According to a previous report David is a mechanic and is engaged to Natalie. Mia is the sister heading to the cabin to detox; Olivia is her best friend/nurse. Eric, presumably, is the kid who unleashes the demons.

Collins is really making a name for herself right now and is definitely a rising star in Hollywood. It's cool to see that she's landing some pretty awesome roles like this. The Evil Dead will no doubt be a fun production to be a part of. What are yoiur thoughts on her being cast in the film?

FilmDistrict plans to release the film on April 12th, 2013.

Three-In-One Zombie Killer Weapon Complete with Skull Ejector!

If there was actually a zombie apocalypse YouTube user  would be a great guy to know. He has the ultimate zombie weapon. It's a three-in-one weapon featuring a slingshot, brain spiker, and head basher with a built-in skull ejector! which is a lever you pull in case your spike gets stuck in a zombie skull. Here's a full breakdown from the creator...

After reviewing the second season of "The Walking Dead", the team at The Slingshot Channel realized that firearms are weapons of last resort in a Zombie outbreak. Gunshots are just too loud, veritable dinner bells for the Undead.

A powerful slingshot is a very good choice, as earlier tests clearly proved. But then again, a close quarter weapon may even be nore important - most of the Zombie killings in the show have been done with clubs, rocks, machetes, even with a screwdriver.

So a combo weapon is our answer to the challenge. A 15cm steel spike, sharp and hardened, in combination with a blunt "smasher" side made from a large steel ball, plus a slingshot on the handle side!

A spike is the easiest way to destroy a Zombie brain. But what if it gets stuck, and more ghouls are approaching? Therefore, a skull ejector lever has been added. A simple pull, and the spike comes free, ready to make the next "dead thing deader".

The weapon is tested agains some vegetables and melons, plus thick particle boards.

Good hell, I would hate to be a zombie being taken out by this thing!

Hilariously Vulgar Grandma Playing SKYRIM

Here's an hilariously vulgar video of a gamer grandma playing the video game Skyrim. She is swearing her freakin' face off. Not only is it funny; it's quite frightening to watch. I wouldn't want to meet this grandma in a dark ally.

Here's a note from YouTube user :

MASSIVE SPOILERS! Just getting that out of the way if you're into the Dark Brotherhood quests. The first part of the video takes place in November, the second part was recorded this morning. And yet she wears the same shirt. Different chair, though! Now she rocks a blue Serta her son gave her for Christmas and a CPAP machine. It's fun to look back at her having difficulty with some Draugers when nowadays she favors a couple Daedric swords that can take out a dragon in a couple hits or so.

Check out the video and tell us what you think!

Trailer and Poster for RETURN Starring Linda Cardellini

Here is the trailer and poster for Liza Johnson‘s Return, which premiered at Cannes this year. The film stars Linda Cardellini, Michael Shannon, and John Slattery. Cardellini (Super, Freaks and Geeks) seems to have delivered one of her rawest and most visceral performances to date. Shannon (Take Shelter) and Slattery (Mad Men) are both solid actors and I am excited to see this movie.

Here's the synopsis:

When Kelli (Linda Cardellini, Freaks & Geeks, Brokeback Mountain) returns home from war, she expected to slowly but surely settle back into her life with her husband (Michael Shannon, Boardwalk Empire) and kids in the small town she grew up in. But she gradually realizes that the life she left behind is no longer there waiting for her. Depicting Kelli's struggle to find her place in a life she no longer recognizes, Linda Cardellini delivers a tour de force performance, leading an all-star cast that also includes John Slattery (Mad Men).

Return is set for limited release on February 10th and then arrives via itunes on February 28th. Watch the trailer below and share your thoughts.

BRIDESMAIDS Sequel May Move Forward Without Kristen Wiig?

$
0

Bridesmaids was a critical and box office success last year. The ensemble comedy brought in $288 million on a budget of $32 million. The film, penned by Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo, has also been received Golden Globe, SAG, and PGA nominations, which add up to a possible Oscar nomination. Universal Pictures wants to do a sequel (as you can expect), so why hasn't one been announced?

According to THR, Wiig has refused to do a reprise and stated, "We aren't working on that. Annie and I aren't planning a sequel. We are writing something else." Wiig has been focusing on small dramas, such as the upcoming film Friends With Kids, Imogene, and The Comedian opposite Robert De Niro for director Sean Penn. She is currently adapting the novel Clown Girl, which she hopes to direct.

This news has caused a bunch of speculation as to why. Some say that Wiig and the rest of the cast were not happy with their bonuses from the film. Universal gave each of them only $100,000, which came across as a little low given the box office. Universal's Ron Meyer even offered Wiig an eight-figure paycheck, but she still would not budge.

Sources close to the project have stated Universal is intent on a sequel and may move forward without Wiig. Here is what they had to say:
"We are over the moon with the success of Bridesmaids, and if we do a sequel we want to get it right. We are talking to filmmakers now about concepts, and if the right one emerges, we'll move forward."
It is not known if original director Paul Feig would be involved, but Melissa McCarthy will likely be a key player in the sequel. Producer Judd Apatow is not on board with Universal moving forward with a different team for the sequel:
"The key is we have to come up with an idea that is as good or better than the first one. We don't want to do it unless it can be great. I don't think anyone has had the brain space to think about it yet. Hopefully that can begin this year."
With all of these issues behind the scenes, fans may have to wait awhile for the sequel. I think that the idea of doing a follow-up without Wiig is not a good idea. I did like McCarthy a lot in the movie, and could see her taking the lead if they had to. What are your thoughts on this new?

STAR TREK 2 - DOCTOR WHO's Noel Clarke Joins Cast

Noel Clarke has joined the cast of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek sequel. Variety is reporting that the British actor-director has joined franchise newcomers Alice Eve and Peter Weller. Clarke currently can be seen on BBC's hit series Doctor Who. Paramount plans to release the highly-anticipated sequel on May 17, 2013.

Not much is known about his role at this time, but the report states that Clarke is going to play "a family man with a wife and young daughter." The film will be directed by Abrams based on a script by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Damon Lindelof.

Clarke marks the third British actor in the cast, including both Eve and Simon Pegg. Clarke penned and co-starred in Kidulthood (which can be seen on Netflix). He then went on to write, direct and star in its 2008 sequel, Adulthood. He also wrote, directed, produced and starred alongside Emma Roberts in the heist film 4.3.2.1. Clarke also starred in Neil Marshall's Centurion and the Andy Serkis-starring Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll.
I think Clarke is a solid addition to the cast, and can not wait to learn more about this film. I know it is a long way off, but Star Trek 2 is one movie I am excited to see. What are your thoughts?

HORRIBLE BOSSES 2 Going Into Development

$

Horrible Bosses was one of my favorite comedies of 2012, and today it's being reported that the screenwriters of the first film, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, have been brought back in to write the sequel. I think it's great we'll get to see a Horrible Bosses 2... all we can hope for is that it will be just as funny as the first.

Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, and Jason Sudeikis are expected to reprise their roles in the film, and according to THR the studio is in early talks with Seth Gordon to direct the sequel as well. It will be interesting to see how this sequel ends up playing out. I imagine they won't be dealing with their same bosses.

What are your thoughts on the fact we'll see a sequel to Horrible Bosses?

Kimberly Peirce Sought to Direct CARRIE Remake

$

MGM and Screen Gems are getting ready to dump pigs' blood on a new generation of horror fans. Deadline reports that they are currently in talks with Kimberly Peirce to direct a remake of Carrie. The film is based on the original classic adaptation of the Stephen King thriller about "the telekinetic teenager who gets pushed too far at the prom and wreaks havoc on her fellow high school students." The original film was released in 1976 and starred Sissy Spacek, John Travolta, and Amy Irving, with Piper Laurie as the repressive mother.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa penned the script for the remake. He is responsible for doing the rewrite that helped Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark on Broadway avoid going dark. Aguirre-Sacasa planned on crafting a version that is more faithful to Kings book and more grounded than the Brian De Palma-directed film. I enjoy the original film and am interested in seeing this new project.
This may seem like an odd choice to some, but Peirce does have a handle on telling coming of age stories about females. She directed Boys Don’t Cry, which starred Hillary Swank, and recently directed Stop-Loss. This could turn out to be a very solid movie, even though the idea of "remakes" is not popular.
What are your thoughts?

Benedict Cumberbatch Lands Villain Role in STAR TREK 2

J.J. Abrams’ highly-anticipated Star Trek sequel has been busy casting lately. Deadline reports that Sherlock himself, Benedict Cumberbatch, has joined the cast of Star Trek 2. Variety’s Jeff Sneider (via Collider) confirms that he has landed the role of the villain, the same villain which Edgar Ramirez auditioned for. It looks as though the rumors of Khan being the villain are wrong.

The sequels story was penned by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Damon Lindelof. He joins Noel Clarke, Alice Eve, and Peter Weller as new additions to the film. Chris Pine, Zach Quinto, and Zoe Saldana are expected to reprise their roles in the film, which Paramount is slated to release on May 17, 2013.

Cumberbatch can currently be seen in War Horse and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. He is also set to portray Smaug the Dragon with the help of motion capture and voice the ‘Necromancer’ in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There And Back Again. He is best known for playing Holmes in BBC's modern-day adaptation. He garnerd a BAFTA TV nomination for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in 2004's Hawking.

If you have not watched Sherlock, I highly recommend you take the time to check it out on Netflix Instant. As a fan of Sherlock Holmes, this is a wonderful modern-day take on the classic character. Cumberbatch is such a talented actor and will make a wonderfully devious villain. I am excited to see Star Trek 2 and hope it lives up to the hype surrounding it.

What are your thoughts on this news? Do you think Cumberbatch will make a good villain?
