SMALLVILLE's Erica Durance Looks Amazing as WONDER WOMAN

Erica Durance is best known for her role as Lois Lane in the TV series Smallville, but in an upcoming episode of David E. Kelley's Harry's Law she will be taking on the role of a mentally unstable character that believes she is Wonder Woman. Here we have our first look at her dressed up in her costume, and needless to say she looks amazing in that costume. Maybe that failed Wonder Woman TV series wouldn't have failed had they cast Durance in the lead role. Here's what she had to say in an interview:

It was a lot of fun. I think any woman would be lying if she didn’t have a moment’s hesitation — you know, you’re jumping into some pretty tight clothes. But it’s so much more than that. It’s such an iconic character.

I will say this: There’s a whole difference to being ready to wear Underoos and being ready to wear a pair of pants that are slim-fitting. I am grateful that I am wearing the pants. And I like the new costume.

What do you think of Durance as Wonder Woman?

New Year's Eve Duet by Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Here's a great little New Year's Eve Musical duet sung by longtime friends Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. In the video below they sing the Nancy Wilson song, "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?"

Here's a note from Deschanel on her YouTube page...

I have known Joe Gordon-Levitt for going on 12 years. We first met in the summer of 2000 while doing a tiny movie called Manic, where we bonded over a mutual appreciation for Harry Nilsson and Nina Simone and I have been lucky enough to call him one of my dearest friends ever since. When we did 500 Days of Summer 8 years later, we spent every lunch hour dancing to Marvin Gaye in the hair and make up trailer; we had loads of fun. I hope to do a thousand more movies with him because he's simply the best. But in the meantime, we made a little New Year's duet for all of you! The original by Nancy Wilson. ENJOY!

So, what are you doing on New Year's Eve?

New Look at The Lizard from THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

While we have yet to see an official image released of The Lizard from Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man, we've seen a leaked scanned image and a pez dispenser. Today we bring you an image of Rhys Ifans as the Lizard on a decal for cheap looking hand held game.

The Lizard we saw in action at Comic-Con was much bigger and much more menacing, but this might be one of the stages of evolution that the character goes through. This could still just be an early concept image though to slap on a toy to see how it looks. What are your thoughts on the look?

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN - Mega Bloks Confirm SPOILERS

It looks like an Amazing Spider-Man spoiler has been confirmed by an unlikely source - Mega Bloks. They are basically LEGO imitators that are legally permitted to create toys. Our friends at BleedingCool have shared some images of the box designs that show off three of the sets from Marc Webb's movie.

Here is the first set:

The set above replicates the following set from the movie:

Here is The Lizard's sewer lab:

The following two sets show off spoilery rumors. The first image shows off the bridge battle that C. Thomas Howell mentioned in an interview:

Here is what Howell said in an interview:

I play a construction worker who’s son is caught in the middle of a battle between the Lizard and Spider-Man on the Manhattan bridge. Spider-Man helps me get my son back from this perilous situation. There is some payback there at the end of the movie. Spider-man is kind of hurting. I help him when all of the other people won’t.

The next set is really spoilery so do not read it if you do not want to know a big plot point.

BleedingCool had this to say about the scene in question:

One action set-piece towards the end of the film sees the Lizard transform a whole Swat team into scaly mutants that look like him. Then there’s a huge battle. Some of the scene is based upon the famous issue of the comic in which Gwen Stacy died.

I am looking forward to seeing this movie in theaters and am interested to see if these scenes definitely show up in film. What are your thoughts? Share your thoughts below!

My Top 10 Favorite Movies of 2011

$

0

This was a very hard list for me to put together this year. I rearranged it over a dozen times, adding in and taking away films, but this is the list I felt good about. There were so many great movies that came out in 2011 that I really enjoyed, and to boil them down to 10 was not an easy task. But I pushed through it and ended up adding 10 more, so this is really a Top 20 list.

Just so you know this list is coming from the view of the hardcore fanboy that I am and it's a list of MY favorite movies of the year. We all have different tastes and these are the movies that spoke to me, these are the films that I connected with and that left an impression on me.

If you haven't seen any of these films yet please find the time to check them out because they are well worth it. Read through my list below and let us know what your favorite movies of 2011 are!

1. War Horse

Steven Spielberg directed yet another perfect movie. War Horse has won the top spot on my Top 10 list of best movies of the year. I have to admit I wasn't really all that excited about seeing this movie, but good Lord! It ended up being an incredible film! I loved this movie, it's one of those inspirational stories that needed to be told. War Horse is everything we love about movies, and it's Spielberg at his best. What he did with these horses in this film and its powerful story and themes simply blew me away in every way. I couldn't be more pleased with this movie.

2. Hugo

I watch a hell of a lot of films. It's one of my favorite things to do, and this Martin Scorsese-directed film reinvigorated my love for movies and reminded me of why I love watching them much so damn much. I love everything about the art of film and filmmaking, I'm also a huge movie history buff so I had a real solid connection with this story. Hugo is Scorsese's love letter to movies, and it was made for us film geeks. If you love film, you will love Hugo. It was a magical experience that made me want to love movies even more. I just really loved how this movie made me feel while watching it.

3. Attack The Block

This movie simply blew me away. It took everything that I love about movies, including 1980's nostalgia, and wrapped it all up into a brilliantly badass sci-fi alien invasion film. This was truly the most entertaining movie I saw this year, and it will be one of those films that I can watch over and over again without getting tired of it. Attack the Block is an instant classic that any hardcore movie geek will love.

4. Drive

This movie was simply badass. Even though this movie had an 80's flare to it, the film style and simple intense story came right out of the 1970's, and I love movies from the 70's. It had a strong, hardcore simplicity to it that I loved. It was a slow burn that escalated into complete madness, and I love that. One top of that Ryan Gosling was so damn cool. All the girls wanted him and all the guys wanted to be him. He was such a great likable character that everyone was rooting for.

5. Super 8

J.J. Abrams did an incredible job capturing the the classic Steven Spielberg movie experience. It was a delight to watch this story brought to life on the big screen. I loved how this movie made me feel when I watched it. It took me back to the time when I was growing up and made me remember what it was like to be that age and the excitement I felt about making movies. This movie felt like a big chunk of my childhood, except for the big alien monster destroying everything. That would have made things a hell of a lot more interesting.

6. Warrior

I enjoy watch Mixed Martial Arts, but it's not the reason I liked this movie. I liked this movie because it was full of incredible performances, and it was just an incredible story. There was so much intensity in the movie. Here you had these two brothers that have had hard lives fighting against each other and you were rooting for both of them. The film was extremely well made, and like I said it contains some of the best performances of the year.

7. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

I wasn't a big Potter fan when the first movie came out, but with each movie I grew to love this world and it's characters more and more, to the point where I actually became a big Harry Potter fan. It has been incredible seeing how this franchise evolved and watching these amazing characters grow up on screen. Like many of you, I was emotionally invested in these characters. I cared about them and that played a big part in how I felt about this movie. And this was a perfect ending to the incredible series. I couldn't be happier with how this final Potter film turned out.

8. Moneyball

I'm not the biggest fan of sports, particularly baseball, but I love movies about sports. Some of the best movies I've seen revolve around sports, and Moneyball ended up being a hell of a great baseball movie, and one of my favorite movies of the year. The movie made me wish that I was actually into sports. On top of that Brad Pitt gave an incredible performance that will get him an Oscar nomination. This inspirational movie was all about the story, heart and soul.

9. Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

This was one of the most entertaining films of the year for me. I love how this movie turned out, and I thought Brad Bird did a fantastic job bringing this story to life. It was Bird's direction and unique vision of these characters that made this movie so good. One of the things I liked most about the movie other than the fun action sequences was the humor. The humor is what set this movie apart from all of the other Mission: Impossible films.

10. Captain America: The First Avenger

I have to say that out of all the Marvel movies that have been released so far by Marvel, Captain America is my favorite. As cool as Iron Man, Thor, and The Hulk were, Captain America really took everything that superheroes are about and put it into perspective. Captain America has alway been one of my favorite Marvel superheroes, and director Joe Johnston did one hell of a job bringing the character to life in the best possible way. His vision for the Captain America movie was my vision for the Captain America movie. That's the Captain America movie I wanted to see. It's rare to have a movie get made where all of your expectations and wants for it fall right into place.

The next 10 that didn't make the Top 10:

Here are a few other films that I really enjoyed this year, but ultimately didn't make it in the Top 10, but obviously they are in my Top 20.

Take Shelter

I saw this movie at Sundance, and I believe Michael Shannon deserves to win an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in the film. I think he gave the best performance of the year.

Planet of the Apes

This was a complete surprise to me! I was completely against this movie when I first heard it was getting made. I bashed it on several occasions and just hated the fact that Planet of the Apes was going to be done again. Boy was I wrong, and it ended up being one of my favorite movies of the year. This was an awesome film; it had a solid story and script. On top of all that the special effects were phenomenal! The look in those apes eyes was scary as hell. It will be interesting to see if Andy Serkis gets an Oscar nomination for his role as Caesar.

X-Men: First Class

This was another big surprise for me. I honestly never thought we would end up seeing another good X-Men film again, but Matthew Vaughn took on the material and created something amazing! I love what he did with the X-Men characters, I love that the film was set in the 1960's, and I thought it was so cool that he implemented all of that cool 60's James Bond type technology. The movie ended up being better than I expected, and it is my favorite X-Men movie to date.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

This movie was so cool. It was way better than the first film. This one had a ot more action in it, but the reason I liked it so much was because of the mind games that Holmes and Moriarty were playing with each other. It was a great live action chess game. The last scene of this movie between the hero and the villain is one of my favorite movie scenes of the year.

Bridesmaids

This is one of the two comedies this year that had to go on this list. Bridesmaids had such a great ensemble cast and was freakin' hilarious.

Horrible Bosses

This is the second comedy on my list. I actually went to see this movie grudgingly and ended up laughing my ass off through most of the movie.

Thor

This turned out to be a hell of a great adaptation of the God of Thunder. I loved what Kenneth Branagh did with it, and I loved the epicness of it. Thor isn't an easy character to bring to the big screen, but it turned out awesome.

Rango

Gore Verbinski's Rango ended up being my favorite animated movie of the, it was a fun exciting western genre film that I had a blast watching.

50/50

I wasn't sure what I would think of this movie going into it. A dramady about a guy who is trying to survive cancer sounds like it could go either way. I ended up really enjoying it, Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt pulled it off.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

I really had high expectations for this movie, and even though it met those expectations the film wasn't David Fincher's best movie. I thought this would be up in my Top 10 list, but it just didn't have what it took.

Top 5 Geeky Events of 2011

$

0

There was many a time this year when geeks made the news for better or worse. Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows was the highest grossing film of the year, a World of Warcraft gamer went postal in Norway, and Watson became the first supercomputer to absolutely own everyone on Jeopardy just to name a few.

There's too many to count really, so I whittled it down to 5 that I find most relevant. These events had an enormous impact on the geek community, and dare I say it, the world. While new technologies, movies, and games came and went, these stories stuck out as game changers that will forever shape the landscape in geek culture. Starting with...

5. Quantum Levitation Sucessfully Demoed at the Association of Science Technology Centers

What has long been a staple cliche in sci-fi genre is rapidly becoming a reality. Soon after this video hit Youtube, other researchers started developing hoverboards, miscellaneous gadgets, and the eventual flying car. It's all still far off from a reality, but still very cool to witness such a huge technological achievement ala Youtube.

4. DC Sells Over 5,000,000 Comics in 6 weeks with "New 52"

You didn't have to be a fan of comics to know they were going the way of the dinosaur after years of struggling sales and failed launch attempts to bring an old art form to a new medium. While other companies (cough...Marvel) were still trying to launch "liveaction comics" on Netflix, DC was planning a revamp of their comics. Okay revamp is an understatement, they intended to erase around 70 years of comic book canon and start with a fresh slate.

The result? Best sales they've ever had, and that's going up against "Knightfall",  "The Death of Superman", and every awesome 80's comic series. Sales are still up and with e-readers on the rise, comic book prints are becoming much coveted collectors items. Hat's off to ya DC, you saved a great American art form.

3. New Zealand Announces They Intend To Use Star Wars Coins As Legal Tender

It's not often that you can say New Zealand is bad ass for things other than geeky movie landscapes, so imagine our surprise when this nugget of news came down the pipeline. 10 coins to rule them all...until they make the second set which is supposedly in the works! For $400 dollars you can own $20 dollars of the coolest currency this side of the galaxy and the one far far away, and that's pretty sweet.

2. Leonard Nimoy Retires From The Star Trek Convention Circuit

I don't know what was more surprising about this announcement, the fact that it actually happened or that Leonard Nimoy is 80 years old. This served as a wake-up call for fans of Star Trek and sci-fi in general that our revered sci-fi gods are getting up there in years. The simple truth? We need replacements, and with next year being touted as the "year of the geek" in terms of cinema, my hopes are high as we begin sending off the old and ushering in the new.

1. The Death of Steve Jobs

Let me be clear. I'm not an Apple or Steve Jobs fan. In fact I'm pretty adamant about my PC love and their adherence to high quality and low cost. That being said there is no escaping the fact that despite my hate, I still own an iPod and an iPhone. I use iTunes regularly, and am forced to use Final Cut at my school when I'm editing video. On top of that, I probably cannot go throughout my every day digital life without encountering one of his hundreds of patents that he developed to make the world better. While I will go on the record to say Steve Jobs was never my hero, he was an influential man who changed our world for the better, and I cannot disrespect him for that.

WORLD WAR Z Movie Being Made Into a Trilogy!

$

0

It looks as though Paramount Pictures is set to turn World War Z into a trilogy. For those of you that have read the book, this may seem odd because Max Brooks' story about the zombie war was told in only one book. Since Hollywood loves to make as much money off of a project as possible, Paramount is trying to stretch the story as far as it can.

The movie stars Brad Pitt and is being directed by Marc Forster. According to the Los Angeles Times, both Forster and Paramount Pictures view World War Z not as a one-and-done but as a full trilogy. At this time it is not known how the story would be split up. The entire trilogy could be taken from the one book and stretched out, or there could be new stories created all together. The article stated that the goal is to "have the grounded, gun-metal realism of, say, Damon's Jason Bourne series tethered to the unsettling end-times vibe of AMC's The Walking Dead."

As we reported before, we do know that the movie is definitely taking a departure from the book, but we will have to wait for the movie to see just how big of a departure was taken. Pitt has never led a franchise though he did star as part of the ensemble cast in Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's movies. I like Pitt as an actor and look forward to seeing him in a franchise.

What are your thoughts?

Matthew Fox Cast in the WWII Political Thriller EMPEROR

Lost star Matthew Fox is taking on the lead role in a new political thriller set in Japan called Emperor. Fox is a good actor whose movie career really hasn't taken off the way I thought it would, but this should be a solid movie for him.

The story is based on true events, and tells the "epic story of love and understanding set amidst the uncertainties of the days following the Japanese surrender at the end of WWII, when General Douglas MacArthur served as the de facto ruler of Japan as supreme commander of the occupying forces." The story will also explore "the story of Fellers' love affair with a Japanese exchange student he had met years before in the U.S., and his quest to find her in the ravaged post-war landscape."

According to Variety Fox will will play one of MacArthur's leading Japanese experts, Gen. Bonner Fellers, "who is charged with reaching a decision of historical importance: should Emperor Hirohito be tried and hanged as a war criminal?"

This could end up being a great film depending how much you're into historical movies. I enjoy watching these kinds of films so I think I might enjoy it. The movie is being directed by Peter Webber (The Girl With a Pearl Earring) from a script written by David Klass and Vera Blasi

The next movie that we will see Fox in is the feature film adaptation of I, Alex Cross, and he also has a role in director Marc Forster's film adaptation of World War Z

Amanda Seyfried to Play Cosette in LES MISERABLES

Red Riding Hood star Amanda Seyfried has officially been offered the role of Cosette in Tom Hooper's (The Kings Speech) film adaptation of Les Miserables The Musical. Seyfried's character is the daughter of Fantine, who will be played by Anne Hathaway.

The story follows convict Jean Valjean, played by Hugh Jackman, who is on the run from his nemesis, Inspector Javert, played by Russell Crowe. According to a recent report Hooper wants the actors to sing their parts in the film, while shooting, without the use of voice doubles. You may not know this, but Seyfried is actually an opera trained actress so this should be a great opportunity for her. She was great in the musical film version of Mama Mia!, and I hope she actually ends up taking the role in this movie. What are your thoughts?

Brad Anderson to Replace Joel Schumacher on the Thriller THE HIVE

Brad Anderson (The Machinist) has signed on to replace Joel Schumacher as director of the upcoming thriller The Hive from Troika Pictures. According to Variety, the film is set in "a 911 emergency center, [and is] a fast-paced suspense pic follow[ing] a 911 operator who must face her own fears in order to save a teenage girl from a serial killer." Having seen Schumacher's latest thriller Trespass, I think Anderson coming on board is the best thing that could happen for the movie.

The script was penned by Rich D'Ovidio (Exit Wounds) and initially had Halle Berry attached to star. She has since dropped out for personal scheduling conflicts, and there are a number of actresses interested in the lead. Sony Pictures Acquisitions is overseeing domestic distribution, with production expected for late spring.

Here is what Anderson had to say about working on the film:

I'm extremely excited about working with Troika on The Hive. This script has two elements I always look for in a thriller -- strong, believable female characters and a smart, very dark and very creepy story that will definitely resonate with large audiences.

Anderson has directed films such as Session 9, Transsiberian, and most recently Vanishing on 7th Street. If you have not seen Transsiberian, it is great and stars Woody Harrelson and Kate Mara (Rooney Mara's sister who stars in David Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo). This sounds like an interesting story that Anderson will do well at directing.

What are your thoughts?

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN - 2 New High Res Images

Here's a couple of new high resolution images from the upcoming Spider-Man movie reboot. Regardless of the fact that The Amazing Spider-Man is a reboot, it's on my most anticipated movie list of 2012. This movie looks like it's going to be awesome, and I'm excited to see what the director of the film Marc Webb is going to give the fans. So far I love what I see, and I'm looking forward to seeing more!

The new images show off Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) who look amazing in this movie. I understand there's a lot of haters out there against this movie, but I'm hoping they give it a chance. I think it going to pleasantly surprise a lot of these people. I'm thinking some people might actually end up liking this vision of Spider-Man more Sam Raimi's vision. What do you think?

Check out this first cool TV spot for Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor's crazy entertaining-looking film, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. The movie looks insanely silly, at the same time it looks a hell of a lot better than the first Ghost Rider film. I'm actually kind of excited to see the ridiculousness.

Here's the full synopsis:

Former stuntman and bounty hunter of rogue demons Johnny Blaze has been living in self-imposed exile, believing that his powers are a curse. But when he is approached by a member of a monastic order who is looking for someone to protect a mother and her son, who are being pursued by the devil in the figure of a man named Roarke, the Ghost Rider takes the case.

The movie stars Nicolas CageFergus RiordanCiaran HindsViolante PlacidoIdris Elba, and Johnny Whitworth, and comes out on February 17th, 2012.
