Trailer for THIN ICE Starring Greg Kinnear, Billy Crudup, and Alan Arkin

Here is the first trailer for Jill Spencer's Thin Ice, which stars Greg Kinnear, Billy Crudup, and Alan Arkin. Leah Thompson and Bob Balaban also star in this offbeat comedy about a con that goes horribly wrong. Thin Ice has the same feel as the Coen Brothers' Fargo, and looks like it will be a quirky film with great characters.

Synopsis:

Mickey Prohaska (Greg Kinnear) is a small-time insurance agent looking for a way to jump-start his business, reunite with his estranged wife (Lea Thompson) and escape the frigid Wisconsin weather. This self-proclaimed master of spin believes that salesmanship is about selling a story — all he needs is a sucker willing to buy it. He hits pay dirt with a lonely retired farmer (Alan Arkin) who is sitting on something much bigger than an insurance commission. But Mickey’s attempt to con the old man spins out of control when a nosy, unstable locksmith (Billy Crudup) with a volatile temper dramatically ups the stakes, trapping him in a madcap spiral of danger, deceit and double-crossing. Blending dark comedy and delirious Midwestern noir, THIN ICE reaches a breaking point that no one — least of all Mickey Prohaska — could ever see coming.

Thin Ice is set for a limited release on February 17. Check out the poster and trailer below and share your thoughts.

A new theatrical trailer has been released for the Elizabeth Olsen horror thriller Silent House. This looks like a fun movie. I have yet to see it, but I heard it's pretty good. The main selling-point for this movie is that it was supposedly filmed in one continuous shot, which is pretty cool... if it's true.

Here's the Synopsis:

Sarah is a young woman who finds herself sealed inside her family's secluded lake house. With no contact to the outside world, and no way out, panic turns to terror to terror as events become increasingly ominous in and around the house.

The movie is set to be released on March 9th, 2012. Check out the trailer below and tell us what you think!

Benedict Cumberbatch Reveals How THE HOBBIT Finale Could Link to LOTR

$

In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) talked about Peter Jackson's The Hobbit and the character he plays in it... Smaug. During the interview he reveals some information that could tell us what we might actually end up seeing in the finale of the second Hobbit film The Hobbit: There and Back Again. This could very well end up being true, which means it could be a crazy big Spoiler, so you've been warned.

Here's what he had to say about playing Smaug,

I’m playing Smaug through motion-capture and voicing the Necromancer, which is a character in the Five Legions War or something which I’m meant to understand. He’s not actually in the original Hobbit. It’s something [Peter Jackson]’s taken from Lord Of The Rings that he wants to put in there.

Not sure if you noticed what he said right there, but if not I'll point it out to you. He brought up the Five Legions War, which could very well mean the Battle of Five Armies. This could be the way that Jackson ends up linking the finale Hobbit film to The Lord of the Rings. Empire then offers up a great speculation of what this could all mean, and I think it's pretty spot on with what we could very well end up seeing...

Readers will know that the Necromancer is Sauron, and that Gandalf disappears halfway through (the book of) The Hobbit to lead a coalition force and drive the Necromancer out of his Mirkwood stronghold. But in the book they dispatch the Necromancer back to (as it turns out) Mordor well before the Battle of Five Armies. Here, however, it looks like he's going to turn up to the finale in person, presumably at the head of the goblin and Warg army, and face Gandalf's team there.

If that is the case, it's a narratively neat way to combine the two story threads, that of Bilbo and the dwarves and the other following Gandalf and his team. It also gives the goblins a stronger motivation to suddenly turn up: in the book, they're avenging the earlier death of one of their leaders and (like all the other armies present) hoping to get their grubby hands on the dragon's hoard. If they're incited or led by Sauron, however, their actions will hang more coherently with their behaviour later in Lord Of The Rings.

I can definitley see this happening. In fact, I hope it does. It's a great way to seamlessly link The Hobbit films to The Lord of the Rings films. What do you all think of this speculative finale for the final Hobbit movie?

Scientists May Have Discovered Cause Of Hive Collapse: ZOMBEES!

"It 'bee'gins"

Bees. One of the most efficient societies on Earth. Working diligently day in and day out, they collect nectar to create honey to protect their queen and the proverbial "hive" from starvation during the winter months.

All was well until 2006, when beekeepers in America witnessed their long maintained beehives being abandoned. The phenomena was coined Colony Collapse Disorder or CCD.

In an unbeelievable discovery, scientists think they have beegun to discover why CCD happens to hives. ZOMBEES!

You heard right, not only do they work better in groups, but they also managed to have a zombie apocalypse before us! Ain't that a beetch?

It starts with bees who wander too far from the hive becoming infected with the eggs of a certain species of fly.

After having the eggs injected into it's abdomen (brutal) the bees then wander towards bright lights and congregate in large groups with no real sense of direction, never to return to the hive.

No there isn't any crazy wing eating or cannibalism...but after witnessing a hamster birth gone wrong as a child...you should be thankful we only got 2/3 zombie traits here.

So if we can mirror this in the real world...our zombie apocalypse happens after the alien invasion?! Sounds awesomely horrifying. My heart goes out to you bees.

The first trailer for the new thriller ATM has been released. The movie was directed by David Brooks and the story follows three co-workers who end up in a desperate fight for their lives when they visit an ATM booth late at night and are trapped by an unknown man. This is the exact reason why I learned the ancient art of Filipino stick fighting. I will not allow myself to be trapped by any unknown men! My question is what led these people to an ATM in the middle of nowhere? This movie just looks like a ridiculous concept... but what the hell, I'll see it.

The film Written by Chris Sparling and stars Brian Geraghty, Josh Peck, and Alice Eve. Check out the trailer for the movie below and tell us what you think.

For those of you who plan on going to see Beauty and the Beast in 3D you will be treated to a new Disney animated short called Tangled Ever After. Gus Van Sant Replaces Matt Damon as Director in John Krasinski Drama

Matt Damon recently dropped out as the director of an untitled drama that he co-wrote and is set to star in with John Krasinski. This was supposed to be the first film that he would direct, but now Good Will Hunting director Gus Van Sant has officially come on board to replace Damon. The reason Damon had to drop out was because he couldn't find the time he needed to prep for directing the film.

Deadline describes the film as "a Capra-esque tale in which Damon and Krasinski play rival corporate executives. Damon plays a sales executive who arrives in a small town only to have his whole life called into question."

Van Sant is a great director, and as we've seen in the past he and Damon make a great team of filmmakers. Van Sant was the only director they approached replace Damon, so it's cool that he agreed to it. There's no doubt that this will end up being a solid script, story, and film.

Alien Army in THE AVENGERS May Not Be the Skrulls

$

Over the last year there have been several reports that The Avengers would be facing off against an alien invasion of The Skrulls. Apparently that is no longer the case. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige previously told Devin Faraci from Badass Digest that Fox only owned the rights to the Super Skrull. Turns out it looks like they actually owned the entire Skrull Empire. Here's what Faraci had to say about this recently... "Well, it turns out that either he was jumping the gun or someone in legal didn't want to test the difference between those two concepts, and the aliens in The Avengers have been rebranded as something else, as well as redesigned."

So from what it sounds like, there will be some kind of alien force that the Avengers will do battle with, it will just be an original creation. There's still no solid confirmation on if any of this is solidly true or not, so it will be interesting to see what we end up getting on the big screen. What are your thoughts on this news? Would you be disappointed if the Skrulls ended up not being in the film?

Kathryn Bigelow's Bin Laden Drama Hopes To Add Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong, and Edgar Ramirez

The cast of Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal's Kill Bin Laden movie continues to grow. Deadline reports that Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong, and Edgar Ramirez are circling the film from Annapurna Pictures and Sony Pictures. They would join the previously announced ensemble cast of Jason Clarke, Joel Edgerton, and Chris Pratt.

Despite Republican allegations that Bigelow and Boal gained inside access from the Obama administration while preparing the script, the film is moving ahead full steam. The story follows "Navy SEAL Team 6′s long hunt for the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks. Osama Bin Laden was finally killed in a covert mission last year." The script is now finished, and the project is scheduled for release on December 19.

Chastain's involvement in this film makes it seem less likely that she will star opposite Tom Cruise in Universal's Oblivion, which shoots in March. The actress has been quite popular as of late. Last year alone she starred in Tree of Life, The Help, Take Shelter, and The Debt. Strong can be seen in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and plays the villain in Disney's John Carter. Ramirez gained a lot of heat from his roles in Carlos and The Bourne Ultimatum and next stars in Wrath of the Titans

I think that this ensemble cast has the film poised for greatness. Chastain was fantastic in The Help and I think she will be great in this. Strong and Ramirez are both solid actors that will add to the current cast in place. What are your thoughts on this news?

Sony Pictures to Pick Up Seth Rogen's THE APOCALYPSE

$

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are finally set to make their directorial debut on The Apocalypse, according to THR. Sony Pictures will reportedly finance and distribute the dark comedy about the end-of-the-world.

Rogen wrote the script based on a story by Goldberg and Jason Stone, and is set to produce the film along with James Weaver under their Point Grey banner. The hilarious concept is inspired by a short called Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse that featured Rogen and Jay Baruchel playing themselves stuck in an apartment after an apocalyptic event. The long gestating project has been in the works since 2008, so it is good to see it moving forward.

To make the film a full-length feature, it has been expanded slightly to include James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, and Craig Robinson, all playing themselves "as they are stuck in Franco’s apartment in Los Angeles facing an apocalypse." The hope is to also add to the cast with various cameos.

The budget is reportedly set in the $30 million to $40 million range. A number of studios were interested in the project, but it looks like Sony is close to a deal. Sources say a deal should be finalized soon. At this time there is no news on a production start date or release date, but we will keep you posted.

The deal makes sense for Sony, who have had a good history with Rogen and Goldberg on films like Superbad, Pineapple Express, and Green Hornet. I am interested in seeing this movie come to fruition.

What are your thoughts on this news?

Here is some cool concept art for the Quinjet, which will be featured in Marvel's The Avengers. The image comes from SpiderMedia.ru (via Comingsoon), and you can click the image for a full-size version. This art looks pretty cool, but it will be cooler to see it come to life on the big screen.

When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as SHIELD, finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

James Franco to Join THE GAME--A Movie About Picking Up Women

$

Actor James Franco is in negotiations to take on the lead role in the  Brian Koppelman and David Levien (Solitary Man) film adaptation of The Game. The film is based on a book by Neil Strauss which is part memoir, part how-to guide, and "details Strauss's effort to learn the tricks to becoming a successful pick-up artist, even moving into a Sunset Strip mansion filled with other competing players to find love." Yes, the movie is about picking up women. This seems like it role that Franco could have some fun with.

Franco would take on the role of Mystery, a man who serves as Strauss' teacher in the book. According to THR Mystery later starred in a VH1 reality series called The Pick-Up Artist, which is a series that I never watched because I don't watch MTV or VH1.

What do you think about Franco taking on this role?

Disney's MALEFICENT To Be Directed by Robert Stromberg

Tim Burton was originally supposed to direct Disney's Angelina Jolie film Maleficent, but he ended up not officially attaching himself to the project for one reason or another. The studio is still moving forward with the live-action Sleeping Beauty adaptation and has hired visual effects artist Robert Stromberg to take on the challenge. This will be Stromberg's first time directing a feature film, but he has worked on films such as Shutter Island, The Road, Tropic Thunder, There Will Be Blood, Pan's Labyrinth, Avatar, Alice in Wonderland, and a ton of other movies.

Jolie is set to play Maleficent in the movie, and it's a great role that she should be awesome in! The movie has previously been described as "a re-telling of the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty, this time told from the vantage point of the evil witch." This is a fun movie concept, and I would have loved to see what Burton had planned for it. It looks like we'll see another person's vision for the story, and we have no idea what that vision will look like.
