Ben Affleck to Direct and Star in WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION Remake

Ben Affleck is going to be playing Batman for years, and while I thought he did a good job bringing that character to life in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the recent DC Films output has me admittedly more interested in his directorial work. The solo Batman movie that he directs could end up being the best of the DC Extended Universe movies, but I'm also interested in his period piece crime drama Live By Night, and a new project Deadline just announced.

Affleck will direct and star in a remake of Witness For The Prosecution, an adaptation of Agatha Christie's short story and play that Billy Wilder adapted into a well-regarded film in 1957. Here's the synopsis:

When wealthy spinster Emily French is found murdered, suspicion falls on Leonard Vole, the man to whom she hastily bequeathed her riches before she died. Leonard assures the investigators that his wife, Romaine Heilger, can provide them with an alibi. However, when questioned, Romaine informs the police that Vole returned home late that night covered in blood. During the trial, Ms. French’s housekeeper, Janet, gives damning evidence against Vole, and, as Romaine’s cross-examination begins, her motives come under scrutiny from the courtroom. One question remains: will justice prevail?

Christopher Keyser will write the screenplay. Perhaps the most surprising thing about this is that Affleck is making this movie for 20th Century Fox, not his long-time home studio of Warner Bros. Hmm...interesting. There's no word about when this project will start shooting, so there's no telling whether we'll end up seeing this or The Batman hit theaters first. We'll keep you posted.

Everyone (including Joey) is loving Kubo and the Two Strings! Particularly, people seem amazed at the jump in quality of animation between this film and Coraline, which was made in a kind of similar way. Wired has created a breakdown of what was done differently and how using two technologies blended together so well.

BAD BOYS FOR LIFE Director Calls The Sequel a "Home Run"

Last week, we found out that the long-gestating Bad Boys 3 is officially going to be called Bad Boys For Life. Joe Carnahan is directing, and now in a new interview with io9, he reveals that stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are both definitely coming back. He also hinted at the film's plot, and gave a few more interesting tidbits that I'll break down for you below.

  • Carnahan said that thanks to the delayed release date, he's had more time to perfect the script, which he says is “the strongest script of any of those movies. Hands down."
  • It sounds like he's really putting an emphasis on getting the story right, saying, "I’m a big believer in ‘Do the work at the script level until you’ve got something you know works.’ That everyone is happy with, the stars are happy with, the director is happy with, the studio is happy with."
  • As for the plot, the director teases: "There’s a lot of funny shit in this movie. And there’s also a very mysterious, but tonally spot-on story that I think is kind of perfect for where we are in this day and age, where the guys are and reflectively, a very modern take on these guys. It’s kind of what becomes of Bad Boys when they’re not boys anymore."
  • This won't be a legacyquel that passes the torch from one generation to another. This is a straight-up sequel: "There’s only one Will Smith and one Martin Lawrence. You can’t replace those guys and I wouldn’t want to be involved if it wasn’t Will and Martin. They are that franchise."

Sounds like he's definitely coming at it from the right place, but it remains to be seen whether general audiences will be intrigued enough to go see a third Bad Boys movie fifteen years after the second film came out. Head over to io9 to read the rest of the interview. Bad Boys For Life hits theaters on January 12, 2018.

Video: Learn About The Creation of Nickelodeon's GUTS Theme Song

90s kids, this one's for you. During the golden age of Nickelodeon, there were several iconic game shows, but perhaps the greatest among them was GUTS. One of the things that elevates it above the rest is that awesome theme song! I'm sure you're singing it in your head already as you read this. Great Big Story interviewed the guy who created it, and he's just as hype as his creation would suggest. Check it out below.

GANGSTER SQUAD Director Ruben Fleischer is Turning The COPS TV Series Into a Movie

Bad boys, bad boys, what you gonna do? Wait, I just wrote about Bad Boys For Life like five minutes ago. What's this now?

Well, one of the inspirations for that film franchise's name was the mega-popular TV series Cops, which used the Inner Circle song "Bad Boys" as its opening theme song:

The Emmy winning show debuted in 1989 and was partly responsible for the reality TV boom that came in the late '90s and early 2000s. You might be surprised to know that it's still airing new episodes, but what may not surprise you is the news from Deadline that Gangster Squad director Ruben Fleischer is going to adapt the series into a feature film.

The idea is to turn that [show's] vibe — best known for its catchy theme song — into an edgy narrative feature with a buddy comedy bent on the order of a Lethal Weapon.

So...it's just a buddy cop comedy? I can't imagine how this could improve on something like End of Watch, which itself sort of seemed like a film version of Cops. I have no clue why a studio thinks they need the brand recognition of that show to launch a movie. This one's baffling to me. I haven't watched the show in years, but am I missing something? Are there regular "characters" on the show that would make compelling film characters? I'm sort of at a loss here.

Fan-Made Trailer Pits The Avengers Against The X-Men in All-Out War

We've seen video mashups like this before, but ScreenRant's X-Men vs. Avengers is still worth a quick watch. It's a fun look at a cinematic scenario that will likely never happen: I think we'll all be dead by the time 20th Century Fox relinquishes the rights to the X-Men to Marvel Studios, so for now, stories that see the two superpowered groups face off against each other are relegated to fan-made videos like this one...and the pages of Marvel comics, of course. Take a look:

Vin Diesel Confirms The GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Will Be in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

There's been a couple of teasing comments about the Guardians of the Galaxy being included in Avengers: Infinity War. I know the fans have been hoping to see the Guardians team fighting alongside the Avengers team, and both Star-Lord and Rocket Racoon have been previously mentioned in comments.

Now it sounds like we have full on confirmation and it comes directly from Vin Diesel himself! The actor recently hosted a live chat on Facebook and while he was talking to his fans, he said this:

“Next year you’ve got Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 coming and that whole concept started from you all saying ‘when are you gonna be in a Marvel movie?’ And you remember the first picture after that Marvel meeting that I had where I was standing [with] the Avengers thing in the back – some of you can look up that picture…there was this old Avengers copy that was behind me in that picture if you look back on my Facebook page you can find that.

What’s gonna be surreal is that picture is going to come to pass because now the Guardians will be included in Avengers: Infinity War and that’s incredibly exciting. Incredibly exciting. Incredibly exciting and something that if you were a part of our page you knew before everybody.”

There's nothing teasing about that comment. That's straight up telling us that the Guardians of the Galaxy will be teaming up with the Avengers in Infinity War. I think most us expected it, but it's always nice to have a good solid confirmation. It's going to be a blast seeing all these crazy Marvel characters interacting with each other in the MCU!

There are a lot of characters that the Russo Brothers are going to have to balance out in the next Avengers film. I'm sure they'll be able to effectively pull it off. So far they've been doing a great job!

Avengers: Infinity War is set to be released on May 4, 2018.

The Empire Strikes Snack: R2-D2 Popcorn Maker

OK, so obviously R2-D2 worked with the Rebels to fight against the Empire, so that headline isn't technically accurate. But it's Friday afternoon — so gimme a break.

ThinkGeek has a pretty cool R2-D2 popcorn maker for sale, and this seems like a nice way to honor actor Kenny Baker, who played R2 in the films and passed away recently. You'll think of how much enjoyment he brought to your life as the beeping droid every time the smell of fresh popcorn wafts in from the kitchen.

R2-D2 is a busy droid. He has taken the time to appear in all of the Star Wars films and lends his support to Padme, Anakin, Leia, Luke, and Obi-Wan. He carries important, world-altering messages, serves in battle, fixes other droids, rescues the heroes, and more.

But Artoo knows that a loyal droid's job is never done so he even takes the time to pop you up some delicious and healthy air-popped popcorn to keep the hunger pains at bay as you settle in for a Star Wars marathon. The R2-D2 Popcorn Maker has the streamlined look of your favorite droid. It includes a measuring cup, top cover, corn inlet, plastic body and power switch. Drop in some kernels, watch him heat up and he will be spitting out your yummy snack in minutes. If you love light and fluffy air-popped popcorn, then this is the droid you are looking for!

You can pick up the officially licensed product here for $49.99.

When I was growing up, there weren’t a lot of sports jocks in high school that were into Star Trek. If you were one of those kids that always wanted a sweet varsity jacket but the school didn’t offer phaser shooting as a sport, ThinkGeek has the perfect jacket for you. This is a Varsity hoodie inspired by Star Trek: The Next Generation. It comes with the following description:

Counselor Troi has been known, for most of her career actually, to wear not-the-standard Starfleet uniform, so we're branching out in our offerings, too. These varsity jackets are a nice change of pace from the standard Starfleet issue. This uniform is made for cooler climates and more relaxed atmospheres (social, that is, and not planetary).
Choose Blue (Science), Red (Command), or Gold (Operations). Each has a chenille combadge patch on the chest and Starfleet written across the shoulders, plus a Starfleet Command patch on the right sleeve. Wearing one of these, you'll be sure to command any room you enter - and not just if you're wearing red!

If you want one, you can order it here for $69.99.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY is Coming to Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights

I look forward to going to Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights ever year. It’s one of my favorite things to do during the Halloween season. They almost always go all out and give fans some pretty awesome mazes.

Universal Studios has announced that they will be bringing FX’s American Horror Story to the event this year at both the Hollywood and Orlando resort locations. Here are the details that have been released about the maze so far:

Guests will experience three chapters of the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning series in frightening mazes. Installment 1’s Murder House will unleash the evil spirits that possess the Harmon estate, spiraling guests through decades of the tortured dead who previously resided there. In Freak Show from Installment 4, guests will join a troupe of biological misfits in a sinister sideshow where they’ll be stalked by the murderous and deformed Twisty the Clown. Finally, guests will succumb to the warped desires of The Countess after checking in to the haunted Hotel Cortez from Installment 5, conceived from the beginning as a torture chamber for its customers.

Sounds like it will make for a great and creepy experience. Greg Lombardo, SVP of Global Live and Location Based Entertainment, 20th Century Fox Consumer Products, had this to say in a statement:

“20th Century Fox Consumer Products is thrilled to team once again with Universal Studios to premiere visionary Ryan Murphy’s groundbreaking series, ‘American Horror Story’ through an all-new Halloween Horror Night maze. The attraction – which showcases multiple chapters from the acclaimed FX anthology – offers a chilling live-action thrill and simultaneously complements the series highly anticipated premiere on September 14th.”

Halloween Horror Nights launches on Friday, September 16th.

It features a series of classic fantasy films from the '80s including Labyrinth, Willow, The Dark Crystal, The NeverEnding Story, Gremlins, Time Bandits, Legend, and Big Trouble in Little China. I grew up watching all of these movies and I love them all. I’d love to have a print of this poster art because it’s everything I loved about growing up watching movies.

As we’ve already learned, Poison Ivy will be going through a very drastic change in Gotham Season 3. An older version of the character is now being played by Maggie Geha. It’s explained that Poison Ivy has a run in with a monster from Indian Hill, and through a series of events she is reborn as a young woman "who’s harnessed the full power of her charms."

In an interview with TV Insider, executive producer John Stephens offered some details on the monster that changes Poison Ivy and makes her fourteen years older. He says:

“One of the creatures that escaped from Indian Hill has the power to age people. Sometimes he uses it to kill people; other times he doesn’t get to complete the process.”

The site also offers us our first look at Geha in the role and she looks great as the character. Gotham is set to return on September 19th.

Ridiculously Awesome Animatronic Shark Costume

A special effects team from VFXLAB got together to create and build a crazy awesome animatronic shark costume. I'm sure Steven Spielberg would have loved to have something like this while shooting Jaws

The costume is built around a Seabob, which a person has to operate. We have a video below of the shark costume in action. They tested it in the swimming pool of a local Hilton Doubletree Hotel, which makes the whole thing even more amusing. I can only imagine what the guests at the hotel thought when they saw it in the pool!

VFXLAB testing Seabob powered shark piloted by diver in a local hotel pool while guest were present. Funny they were a little scared even knowing what it was. VFXLAB crew Bob Wasson, Zane Wasson, Gary Wasson and Jim Arbaugh.

David Schwimmer Was Originally Supposed to Play Agent J in MEN IN BLACK

It’s always fun to learn about actors who were originally eyed for big movie roles but never ended up taking them. During an interview on THR’s Award Chatter podcast, David Schwimmer revealed he was originally offered the role of Agent J in Men in Black, a role that ended up being played by Will Smith.

He was obviously offered the role because of his popularity on the hit sitcom Friends. He ended up turning down the role so that he could star in and direct a TV movie called Since You've Been Gone, which I’ve never heard of. You’d think the actor would have regrets about his choice, but he doesn’t, in regards to taking the opportunity to choose between the two projects he says, "It wasn't even like a choice."

I think he made the right choice because Will Smith was awesome in the role as Agent J and I don’t think Schwimmer would have had the same powerful on screen presence that Smith had. Schwimmer doesn’t have that “wow” factor.

This is The Coolest-Looking Boba Fett Armor Backpack I’ve Ever Seen

Well, it looks like I’ve found a new backpack to add to my collection. This is the Boba Fett Mandalorian Armor Backpack. I’ve seen a lot of Boba Fett backpacks over the years, but this is easily the coolest looking one that I’ve ever seen. It’s also one of the most functionally designed. It comes from ThinkGeek, who says:

Bob A. Fett is a hard working young man. Though he isn't the most popular clone at school, he still has a sense of style. Bob likes wearing his armor around. Now, he's not allowed to fly around during school hours, so he uses his pack to carry his stuff. Soda, books, candy - all sorts of things. And now you can too, with the Boba Fett Mandalorian Armor Backpack!
Looking as cool as Boba Fett is just the beginning. The Boba Fett Mandalorian Armor Backpack is loaded with room to store all your Mandalorian loot. A big main compartment, a padded laptop sleeve AND an additional tablet sleeve, leather-look pouches for all your thermal detonators, two side pockets (we like calling them fuel tanks, because we store cans of soda in ours) – it all adds up to one very useful bag. And nobody, but nobody, bothers you when you walk around wearing your Boba Fett Mandalorian Armor Backpack. Trust us.

If you want one it will cost you $69.99 and you can order it right here.

There are some actors out there who like to do their own stunts. As you might imagine, sometimes things don’t go as planned and some actors are seriously hurt. ScreenRant has released a video breakdown that lists 10 famous actors who got injured on the set of their movies. Some of those actors include Jackie Chan, Michael J. Fox, Charlize Theron, Tom Hanks, Sylvester Stallone, Brad Pitt, and more.

On the whole, acting is one of the safest jobs in the world. Actors are well looked after, movie sets are extremely safe places, stunts are generally performed by doubles who are more suited to the job and, in the event of an emergency, there are always medical professionals on hand to step in.That being said, some actors have been injured on the sets of their movies. Whether it's because they're amongst the few who are brave enough to perform their own stunts, or simply because they got into some kind of accident, even the most high-profile and talented of stars have managed to hurt themselves during filming. In this video, we'll run through a list of some great examples. Here are ten famous actors who were seriously injured on the set of their movies.
