Margot Robbie Wants a Harley and Joker Spinoff Film and David Ayer Discusses SUICIDE SQUAD's Ending

If you’ve already seen Suicide Squad, then you know the ending easily sets up a sequel for the film. I just hope that David Ayer actually gets to make the sequel. At this point, who knows what's going to happen. The movie is doing pretty well at the box office, but the critics have bashed the hell out of it. I’m going to get into some ending details, so if you haven’t seen the film, you might not want to read ahead.

At the end of Suicide Squad, the Task Force X team members are locked back up in Belle Reve prison. Captain Boomerang is begging to be let out, and Harley Quinn is in her cage sipping an espresso when all of a sudden there’s a huge explosion and The Joker comes in to save her like a knight in shining armor.

The reason Ayer ended the film this way is because he obviously had some ideas about where he wanted to take the sequel if he got a chance to do that. During an interview with Collider, the director said:

“I don't want to give stuff away but ... anything is possible, and that's the thing. For as much control and command Amanda Waller has over these guys, at the end of the day, they're supervillains and they're going to do supervillain stuff. Plus, the Joker/Harley relationship just seemed like the right button for the movie. It opens so many doors, if another one of these were ever to turn up under a rock somewhere.”

I would love to see a movie that takes The Joker and Harley Quinn on a twisted adventure. I wish there would have been a film focused on the two characters before Suicide Squad to help set up their story a little more fully, but I’ll take a continuation of that story in a sequel — even a solo film — if the studio wants to take things in that direction. We already know the studio is planning a Harley Quinn movie, but is that something The Joker would be involved with? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Margot Robbie would love a Harley and Joker spinoff movie. While speaking to Tipsy Talk, she said that “there’s just so much more to do.” I couldn’t agree with her more.

The director also talked about the rating of the film. Jared Leto previously said he thought the film should have been rated R, but the PG-13 rating is something that Ayer was planning from the very beginning, and he said he enjoyed the challenge of making that happen:

“This was always going to be a PG-13 from its inception. To me Deadpool is a bit of an outlier and I don’t know that that’s something you can model on, I honestly don’t know if that is an itch you can keep scratching with multiple projects, and I think that that’s also such a specific animal, and this thing was never intended to be R-rated so the material to do that didn’t exist and I found myself being my own sort of traffic cop on set just keeping, you know, 'Alright guys let’s keep it family, we’re not gonna do that, chill out. Don’t say that, no, no. Put the blood away, we’re not gonna see it. Say the F-bomb, then do it again without the F-bomb.' It was a bit of an out-of-body experience after the movies I have made in the past, but at the same time we got the rating with no problem and I kind of like it, I liked the challenge of that and it’s almost like in the ‘50s and the ‘40s the writing was spectacular because you had to talk around things and you had to be smart about how you communicate to people, and I enjoyed that challenge.”

If you haven’t seen Suicide Squad yet, you should check it out. I know it’s getting slammed by critics, but go see it and form your own opinion because I thought it was a blast.

If Warner Bros. does decide to make a follow-up to Suicide Squad, would you rather see a direct sequel with all the characters coming back or a film that focuses on Harley Quinn and The Joker?

Funny Sci-fi Comedy Short STRYKA Follows the Life of an Alien Thief in Brooklyn

Director Emily Carmichael has created a fantastic sci-fi comedy short that you’ve gotta check out! It’s called "Stryka," and it centers around the life of a strong reptile-like alien character from another world, her partner, and their life in crime. The story is set in a futuristic Brooklyn, New York and this is the synopsis:

Stryka is an awesome reptile woman from another planet who does heists and odd jobs with her (literal) partner in crime, Callen. But she has a secret–she’s been stealing with somebody else. (She just wants a partner who cleans up well enough to pull off a fancy jewel heist once and a while–is that so wrong?) Anxious about her career in thievery and torn by her loyalty to competing thieves, Stryka has to figure out where she belongs. Luckily, she has a highly advanced robot therapist to talk it over with.

When talking about her film on kidcandrive.com, Carmichael said:

“I think a playful questioning of accepted story archetypes can have broad-reaching effect on how we encounter stories, ourselves and each othe. There’s an ideological war afoot between those who believe the voices of all people everywhere should be heard, and those who think that’s somehow ‘asking too much,’ or ‘going too far.’ And this is how we will win—by committing ourselves to exposing the untold story, wherever we find it, in our reality or an alternate one.”

The short is extremely well made and wonderfully entertaining. The production value and designs are also insanely impressive. It stars Aimee Mullins as Stryka and Rupert Friend as Callen. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

As we wait for the new trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is supposed to be released tomorrow, Lucasfilm has shared a brief promo spot that teases some cool new footage from the film. It's a great little tease that packs a punch of excitement! I can't wait to see what's going to be in the new trailer tomorrow. There's one scene in these that shows the aftermath of a fight involving Donnie Yen's Chirrut Imwe with a squad of Stormtroopers, none of which are left standing. I want to see how that fight goes down! Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set for release on December 16th, 2016.

The Philosophy of The Joker Video Essay

The Clown Prince of Crime. The Harlequin of Hate. The Jester of Genocide. These names all point to one man, and one man only: The Joker. One of the most infamous, and arguably best, DC villains.

With his most recent appearance in the film Suicide Squad, the Joker has made many appearances in the DC universe from the pages of comic books to the big screen. The Joker has left his mark on pop-culture. He is one of my favorite villains.

The folks over at Wisecrack decided to dive into the mind of the Joker in their video The Philosophy of the Joker." I really enjoyed this video. I feel like I even gained a new appreciation for the character. Check it out.

If you’re a horror movie fan, then there’s a fun-looking indie family horror film that might be worth checking out called Kids vs. Monsters. You can tell from the trailer that this is a low budget film, but it’s fueled by some horror movie all-star actors, some wacky fun practical effects, and most importantly, horror movie fandom. Here’s the brief plot description:

The six richest people in the world each have one thing still dragging them down — their intolerable kids. Luckily, there is a mysterious entity that is happy to lend a hand.

The movie stars Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, Time After Time), Lance Henriksen (Aliens, Pumpkinhead), Sultan Saeed Al Darmaki (Harbinger Down), Keith David (The Thing, They Live), Richard Moll (House, Evilspeak, Night Court), and Armand Assante (Judge Dredd, I The Jury) just to name a few.

The FX in the film were created by Amalgamated Dynamics, who worked on films such as The Thing and Aliens Vs. Predator. It looks like it could prove to be quite entertaining. Check out the trailer and tell us what you think! Kids vs. Monsters will be released on DVD on August 23rd.

Grant Gustin Says Barry Allen Is Forgetting His Powers in THE FLASH Season 3

Some strange things are going to start happening to Barry Allen in the upcoming third season of The Flash. In a recent episode of DC All Access, star Grant Gustin talked a little bit about the Flashpoint storyline. As you all know by now, The Flash traveled back in time to save his mom's life. As you might expect, this comes with big changes and consequences. When talking about some of these changes and consequences, Gustin explains:

"Barry's the only one who knows that the timeline is different. And his memories are gradually being replaced by memories of graduating high school and college, his moments with his family, and when he realizes that those memories are replacing other memories, that's when he starts to realize how selfish of a decision this was."

That's not all, though. As this is all happening and his old memories are being replaced by new ones, he is starting to forget his powers. The actor goes on to say:

"It means he's forgetting his powers, too. He's having a full Back to the Future moment, his hand disappearing in front of him."

This is definitely going to make for an interesting story dynamic. I'm sure he'll get through it all ok, but he's going to have to go through some heavy shit in the process.

The Flash will be joined by Kid Flash in the new season, and according to actor Keiynan Lonsdale, he plays a "big part of Flashpoint." As for the villains, producer Aaron Helbing teased a couple of major ones, revealing that "one is a speedster, the other is a human." He adds that "they're gonna be a challenge for Barry."

The Flash is my favorite comic book inspired series currently in production, and I'm excited about what's coming in Season 3.  The Flash returns to The CW on Tuesday, October 4th.

It's hard to believe that it's been 25 years since Steven Spielberg's Hook was released in theaters. I loved that movie as a kid! It was an incredibly fun and very different version of Peter Pan than I had ever seen before. Robin Williams gave a wonderful performance as Peter Pan, and he was surrounded by a great cast of lovable characters who made up Neverland's The Lost Boys.

In honor of the 25th anniversary of the film,  Dante Basco, the actor who played Rufio, teamed up with the rest of the original Lost Boys for a photo shoot. The photos were posted on the 22 Vision Facebook page. As you can see, they are all dressed up in costumes that represent what they wore in the film. Some of them even recreate some of the iconic shots of their characters from the movie. The rest of the actors include Ryan J Francis, Raushan Hammond, Isaiah Robinson, Thomas Tulak, Brett Willis, Ahmad Stoner, Bo Gheorghe, Bryan Willis, and James Madio

It's pretty awesome seeing these characters come back together for this celebration of Hook. Makes me want to watch the movie again! It's been awhile. The photos came with the caption:

OCEAN'S 8 Locks In Its Female Cast with Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Rihanna, and More

Director Gary Ross and Warner Bros. are locking down their cast for Ocean's 8, which will be a continuation of Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's 11 trilogy. The cast that they've brought together for the feature includes Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, and Mindy Kaling, who were all previously cast, and now we've found out they will be joined by Rihanna and rapper/actress Awkwafina

This is a pretty solid cast and the studio and director are still in the process of casting other actors. They still need one more actress to take on the eighth member of the team. Soderbergh is producing the film alongside Ross, who is also writing the script with Olivia Milch.

Bullock plays George Clooney's character's ex-con sister in the film, and she recruits her own team to steal a necklace from the Met Ball and frame a villainous gallery owner. When previously talking about the movie, Ross said:

I think it’s a pretty similar tone. You know, Steven Soderbergh and I are incredibly close friends, and we would not have done this if we weren’t. I don’t think he would’ve wanted anyone to do it if we weren’t. This is very much an extension and a continuation. He’s a producer on the movie. In one way or another, this has been a 20-year conversation between Steven and I, collaborating in ways the whole world doesn’t know about: I helped him on the previous Ocean’s Eleven films; he shot second unit on The Hunger Games; I’ve done ADR lines for him; and he reads all my scripts. It’s a very long, ongoing collaboration. This, I think, is a very seamless process. We’re different filmmakers, obviously, so there will be those differences, but one of the things I’m drawn to is the amazing tone Steven was able to create, and we discuss that a lot. We discuss the cinema a lot, the shooting style, the rhythm, the editing style, and the music. We discuss it all. I’m in no way trying to reinvent the tone, and I’m thrilled and honored to be extending it. It’s really fun to work with.

I enjoyed the hell out of Soderbergh's Ocean's films and I think this next film in the franchise could be great. There's a lot of talented people involved with this project and I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with it.

Video: Are These The Best Fake Sports in Movies?

With all eyes on the Olympics right now, it makes sense that the team at Fandor (via LS) would put together a quick supercut listing their top 10 fake sports from movies. It definitely has some classics on there (Death Racing is a must, and the number one choice seems obvious in hindsight), but a list of ten seems inadequate. How about robot boxing from Real Steel? Or the televised battle to the death in The Running Man? What are your other favorites that didn't make the cut?

GHOSTBUSTERS To Potentially Take $70 Million+ Loss, Sequel in Question

$

After a lackluster showing at the box office, it seems unlikely that a sequel to the Ghostbusters reboot will happen. THR reports that the film has currently grossed $180 million globally and will need about $300 million to break even. With a few more markets still to open in, estimates are guessing the film will finish at $225 million, but nothing is guaranteed.

With silence as to whether or not a live action sequel is still in the works, Sony has confirmed that there will be animated spin-offs set for 2018 and 2019. In 2018, the series Ghostbusters: Ecto Force will look to find a platform and the 2019 animated feature will supposedly be a film for theaters or Blu-ray.

All that's really known right now is that there has been no talk of a Ghostbusters sequel since the film's opening in July, and analysts are betting smart money against it.

Dwayne Johnson's "Candy Ass" FAST 8 Co-Star Reportedly Revealed

$

To make sure everyone's up to speed, you should read this piece I wrote yesterday about Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson calling some of his male co-stars "candy asses" and "chicken shit." It was an uncharacteristic attack on the part of Johnson, who's almost always hyping nothing but positivity, and I hypothesized that since the nature of Johnson's comments was about how these mysterious co-stars were acting unprofessional, he couldn't possibly be talking about Vin Diesel, since Diesel is a producer on the Fast movies and one of the major architects behind its continued success. But according to TMZ, that's exactly who The Rock is beefing with.

We're told The Rock has butted heads with Vin during the production, in part because V.D. is a producer and has made decisions that didn't sit well with the former wrestling champ.
Our sources say The Rock and Vin had a meeting on the Atlanta set mid-day Tuesday ... partly because tensions were running so high it was almost impossible to shoot scenes. We do not know if they resolved their issues.

If you've seen all of the Fast movies, you can probably sense that Diesel has always viewed Dom Toretto as an untouchable badass. Hobbs should have completely dominated Dom in their brawl during Fast Five, but they basically fought to a draw, presumably to retain their egos. Ego has apparently been a big factor on the set of Fast 8, but I'm still surprised that these two particular guys are beefing at this point in the franchise. I'm sure there's more than enough money to go around, but Hollywood status can mess with people's heads.

The only question now is, who else was The Rock talking about? In his original Instagram post, he mentioned multiple male co-stars who weren't conducting themselves professionally. I wonder if the identity of the other party will ever emerge? Here's hoping none of this has a negative impact on these movies going forward, because as dumb as they are, I really dig them.

David Ayer Explains The Joker's "Damaged" Tattoo and How It Relates to Batman

$

With so little of Jared Leto's Joker appearing in Suicide Squad, audiences didn't really have a chance to dig into his character very much. I have to admit, I wasn't super impressed with what we saw in the final cut: he just seemed like a two-bit gangster instead of a criminal mastermind. To be fair, a ton of his scenes were left on the cutting room floor, and maybe if we would have been able to see all of it, his performance would have registered much more.

It sounds like at least one aspect of the character had some interesting backstory to it, even though it didn't end up in the movie. In an interview with Empire (via ScreenCrush), writer/director David Ayer explains the origins of The Joker's "Damaged" tattoo on his forehead, which he says is the Clown Prince of Crime's message to The Dark Knight:

“Joker killed Robin and Batman basically smashes his teeth out and locks him up in Arkham Asylum. It’s in the asylum where Joker would have done the ‘damaged’ tattoo as a message to Batman saying, ‘You’ve damaged me. I was so beautiful before and now you’ve destroyed my face.’ That’s where the grill comes from."

Aside from the teeth smashing part, that would have actually been cool to see in one of the movie's incessant flashbacks. Plus, it might have given us a moment in which this version of Batman and The Joker actually act opposite each other in the same shot for the first time (as it is in the movie, we see a car chase between them and that's it). Maybe Ben Affleck is saving that scene for his solo movie?

Also worth pointing out here is that Ayer straight up says Joker was the one who killed Robin, but he doesn't go into details about exactly how that was done. The line in the movie actually says that Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn was an accomplice in Robin's murder, so maybe she escaped from the scene of the crime. Again, that's possibly something we could see in another movie down the line, but it might have been nice to further flesh out some of these characters in Suicide Squad instead of leaving Leto as basically a superfluous cameo.

Ezra Miller Says Bad SUICIDE SQUAD Reviews Only Motivate JUSTICE LEAGUE Cast

Ezra Miller is taking the bad reviews Suicide Squad is getting in stride, saying it only "motivates" the cast of Zack Snyder's Justice League. The actor shared his thoughts with MTV News and compared it to a song by rapper T.I.:

“You needn’t look any further than the Suicide Squad director and cast response to the negative reviews to feel how negative critiques motivate us,” Miller said. “Ultimately, we can’t base anything on [the critical response]. As artists, we aim to please absolutely everybody with our work, but we also know that we have to keep expressing ourselves as best as we can express ourselves...it’s like that T.I. song, ‘Motivation.”

In case you were curious:

Miller wouldn't strike me as someone to go into T.I.'s deep cuts, but there you go. The actor also made sure to point out that Snyder did not direct the scene in which The Flash appears in Suicide Squad by himself:

“Saying that Zack [Snyder] shot it would not be accurate...It was very much a collaborate effort that was supervised by DC. It was collaborative with David [Ayer].”

I'm sure much like myself, you've waited too long for this film and are seeing it either way, right? Has DC scorned you that bad you would pass up this film?

Man, I really want to hate on this trend of coloring books for adults, but they keep releasing awesome ones! Bloody Disgusting brings us the news that Titan Books will be releasing an 80 page Alien-themed coloring book in May of 2017 for fans to doodle on to their heart's desire! The release is coordinated with the release of Alien: Covenant, but appears to have no specific connection to that film. The cover can be found below:

Really cool, right? I can't wait to see the "chest bursting" scene! You can pre-order your copy right here.

Jason Momoa in Talks to Star in THE CROW Reboot

$

I've lost count of how many times we've written about The Crow over the past few years as the project worked its way through the ups and downs of development, had actors and directors join and leave, and its studio experience bankruptcy. It eventually got to the point where I thought the remake would never happen at all, but now the movie has a new star, and he could generate the necessary heat to finally push it across the finish line.

Mashable reports that Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, upcoming Aquaman) is in talks to play the title role for director Corin Hardy (The Hallow), who apparently wasn't booted off the project as once rumored. Momoa seems like a good fit; though he's far more physically imposing than original star Brandon Lee (who tragically died in an accident during filming of the 1994 original movie), the former Khal Drogo has the ability to tap into a darkness that should benefit this character well.

If all goes according to plan, the new version of The Crow will reportedly come out before the solo Aquaman film, meaning sometime before 2018. What do you think about the new casting?

On a list of movies that are reportedly "going to happen" but will likely "never happen," a live-action Akira has to be at the top of the list. We've been teased for years with directors attached, studios battling for rights, and fan remakes coming and going. I've made peace with the fact that the original will likely be the only version I see in my lifetime, and you probably should too.

The good news is the fan base is still strong and we have these awesome fan projects that remind us the 1988 film still exists and it's just as great now as it was then. Check out this awesome CGI tribute to the film by Brad Kremer!

Winter Soldier Confirmed For AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

Bucky Barnes — aka The Winter Soldier — is confirmed to be returning for Avengers: Infinity War. The report comes from THR, who threw the information away in the bottom of an article about Sebastian Stan starring in We Have Always Lived In A Castle.

There's no word on how large the role will be as the film doesn't start shooting until early next year.

I'm hoping the information is legit. I would love to see as loaded as a cast as possible to take on Thanos, but I am a little wary of a third Avengers film after Age of Ultron. Have we all gotten to the point that we can admit that movie sucked? Personally, I put it below Batman v Superman, and that's saying something. Hopefully Infinity War makes up for Ultron's missteps.

INFERNO Trailer: Tom Hanks Has The World in His Hands

I'm going to say it in a public forum: I like Dan Brown's Robert Langdon series of novels. Is he a great writer? No. Are the books great? No. It's a guilty pleasure of mine, and I find myself enjoying the adventure and story, especially how it weaves and integrates real-life art and architecture. I know I'm in the minority and I'll accept all the hate that rains down on me for it. Having said that, I'm not a huge fan of the film series.

Sony has released another trailer for Inferno, the third installment and what looks to be an attempt at a revitalization of the series. Honestly, I really enjoyed the story of the book. It's very theatrical in itself and looked to be written as a blueprint for a film, but the trailers make this movie look pretty bad.

Ron Howard directed the two previous entries in the series (The Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons), and also directed Inferno. While Angels and Demons remains a pretty solid effort, I don't think there's been much clamor for another sequel. Sony obviously thinks there's enough interest, though, and with a director like Howard and talent like Tom Hanks and Felicity Jones in place, it seems like it has a lot of potential to be good.

Inferno also stars Irrfan Khan, Omar Sy, and Ben Foster. It will be released October 28, 2016.
Are you looking forward to Inferno and the continuing adventures Robert Langdon on screen? Let us know below!
