That Futuristic ROBIN HOOD Movie is Still Happening, and Now It Has a Director

The Hollywood Gang — the production company behind 300 and Immortals — has been trying to make a futuristic Robin Hood movie since at least 2009, and now they're finally inching closer to that goal. THR reports that, seven months after hiring writer Tony Lee to take a crack at the script, producer Gianni Nunnari has hired a director for the movie: Hasraf "HaZ" Dulull, who you may recognize as the director of I.R.I.S., Project Kronos, and Sync, all short films we've featured here on the site before.

“HaZ brings the grounded realistic approach to the world depicting technology and people in a not too distant dystopian London,” Nunnari said in a statement.

Dulull is a visual effects specialist who is currently making his feature directorial debut on a full-length adaptation of his short film Project Kronos. He certainly has a stylistic eye, but it remains to be seen if anyone — let alone an untested filmmaker — can pull off a futuristic Robin Hood film.

Production is scheduled to start sometime in 2017.

Watch Vincent Price Get Bit by Vampire Kermit on THE MUPPET SHOW in 1977

Here are a couple of great clips from an episode of The Muppet Show in 1977 with the legendary Vincent Price as a guest on the show. He and Kermit the Frog talk about how he is able to turn into a vampire. It’s hilariously charming and at one point Kermit turns into a vampire and attacks Price.

I grew up watching Vincent Price horror movies, but I had never seen this clip before now. I just thought it was the coolest thing, so I had to share it with you in case any of you haven’t seen it either. Enjoy!

ARRIVAL Teaser Trailer: Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner Set Out to Make First Contact

Earlier this morning, we wrote about some new photos and details from Sicario and Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve's upcoming alien science fiction film Arrival, and now Paramount has released the first teaser trailer/TV spot for the movie.

Every once in a while, a teaser trailer comes along that so purely embodies the definition of what marketing like this is designed to do, and this is the latest example. It's a perfect hook, and though the end of the video promises a full trailer is coming next week, I know that at this point I've already seen everything I need to be excited about watching this movie when it comes out later this year.

Arrival arrives in theaters on November 11, 2016.

When mysterious spacecrafts touch down across the globe, an elite team - lead by expert linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) - is brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers – and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.

Alice Kicks Ass in First U.S. Trailer for RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CAPTER1

Earlier today we posted a brief Japanese promo spot for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Well, Screen Gems has just released a new U.S. trailer for the film, which is loaded with a ton of cool footage. The trailer is labeled as a teaser, but it's over two minutes long, so I'd say it's more of a full trailer. Regardless, the last film in the Resident Evil franchise looks like it will be a lot of fun.

For the most part, I've enjoyed the Resident Evil film franchise since it first launched in 2002. They aren't the greatest films ever, but they have managed to entertain me. I'm happy that it's finally coming to an end and I really hope it goes out on a high note.

Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, Alice (Milla Jovovich) is the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead. Now, she must return to where the nightmare began – The Hive in Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter will be released on January 27th, 2017.

Is LETHAL WEAPON 5 Coming? Maybe, Says Exec Producer of TV Reboot

All the way back in 1987, Shane Black wrote and directed the first installment in the Lethal Weapon series. Who knew, fast forwarding to present day, that we'd be discussing a television reboot and a potential fifth installment? Certainly, Black created some great characters that have had great moments over the years, but is there enough interest in Riggs and Murtaugh's continuing adventures on the silver screen? Time will tell, but while promoting the Lethal Weapon TV series at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour, Executive Producer Dan Lin shed a thin beam of light on the potential for Lethal Weapon 5, saying in an interview:

"There's still potential for Lethal Weapon 5, because of [showrunner] Matt [Miller]'s take on the show, they let us extend the series, but there may be Lethal Weapon 5 in the future — but for now, the focus is 100 percent on the TV series."

There's no other information on whether Danny Glover or Mel Gibson would reprise their roles as Murtaugh and Riggs respectively, or if the new film would follow the adventures of the rebooted duo.

It looks like this might just be another stab at the nostalgia well. Everything from the '80s and '90s seems to be coming back nowadays, and while another Lethal Weapon film would be interesting, and probably fun, you have to wonder if anyone is really interested enough to see it. Richard Donner directed all four of the previous films, but he's 86 now and hasn't done anything for a long time. Black is still making quality films — The Nice Guys and Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang, are very solid detective comedies — and maybe if Warner Bros. could get him back to pen a script and possibly direct, we could be in for a potentially great return to the franchise. Otherwise, I'm not so sure.

Are you interested in a potential Lethal Weapon 5? Let us know in the comments below!

Miles Teller Says He Would Return As Reed Richards For FANTASTIC FOUR Sequel

Most celebrities avoid failed franchises like the plague when it comes to the talk of sequels. Miles Teller isn't like most celebrities. Speaking to JoBlo, the actor says he would return as Reed Richards for a Fantastic Four sequel:

"Yeah, for sure. I loved the cast, I loved the characters. I think it's such an interesting dynamic. I love how much they really need to rely on each other. This Avengers thing, they've kind of created their own Fantastic Four in a way, Marvel's first family. Their powers can't just exist on their own, you need Thor to do this, the Hulk to do his thing. So yeah, absolutely, I would do another one."

The film was panned critically and lead director Josh Trank on a frenzy, blaming everyone but himself for the film's poor reception. I guess Teller must have really enjoyed his screen time because he's not in a position where he has to take any role he can get! Hell, at the moment he appears to be one of Hollywood's largest rising stars!

While I have no desire to see another Fantastic Four movie like the reboot, I admire Teller for sticking with the character. But if I were Fox, I'd say it's best to let this film franchise die.

Dwayne Johnson Calls Out Some of His "Candy Ass" FAST 8 Male Co-Stars

The Fast & Furious movies have leaned into the concept of "family" in a big way over the years, and it's easy to think that the relationships between characters we see on screen are just as congenial in real life. But it appears as if there's some trouble brewing in the family.

Dwayne Johnson took to Instagram to call out some of his "candy ass" male co-stars. I'll post the video with his caption, and then his full caption below just in case he deletes the video:

This is my final week of shooting #FastAndFurious8. There's no other franchise that gets my blood boiling more than this one. An incredible hard working crew. UNIVERSAL has been great partners as well. My female co-stars are always amazing and I love 'em. My male co-stars however are a different story. Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don't. The ones that don't are too chicken shit to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses. When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I'm not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling - you're right. Bottom line is it'll play great for the movie and fits this Hobbs character that's embedded in my DNA extremely well. The producer in me is happy about this part😉. Final week on FAST 8 and I'll finish strong. #IcemanCometh #F8 #ZeroToleranceForCandyAsses

If you follow Johnson on social media, you know that the actor is a fountain of positivity, constantly inspiring and thanking his fans and generally being an all-around great guy. So while it's always a bit of an eyebrow-raiser when an actor says anything contentious about his or her co-stars during the filming of a movie, it's an especially huge surprise to hear it from Johnson.

So the question becomes: who do you think he's talking about here? I doubt it's Vin Diesel, because Diesel, Justin Lin, and writer/producer Chris Morgan are probably the three people most responsible for resurrecting this franchise and turning it into the box office behemoth it is today. Also, over the course of the past couple of movies, Johnson's Hobbs has become allies with Diesel's Dom Toretto and his crew, so unless there's some crazy plot twist we don't see coming, it doesn't seem likely that there'd be a scene in Fast 8 in which Hobbs is interacting with them and his blood is boiling.

So could it be Jason Statham, who is returning to play the villainous Deckard Shaw? Shaw and Hobbs definitely don't get along on screen, so maybe that extends to real life as well. It could also be new addition Scott Eastwood, Kristofer Hivju, or maybe even Kurt Russell. Either way, it's good to know that comedian Paul Scheer is on the case:

Jeph Loeb "Wouldn't Be Upset" If Misty Knight Had a Netflix Spin-Off

With the success Marvel TV has had in their partnership with Netflix, people are already wanting more! This includes fans curious as to whether or not we will see Misty Knight (who will make her debut in Luke Cage at the end of September) in her own series down the line. THR reports Marvel's Jeph Loeb says he "wouldn't be upset" if it happened, but also says Netflix may not be on board:

"I think Netflix is being very selective in terms of where we're going. That being said, Simone just knocked it so far out of the park that we're still trying to find the baseball. It's somewhere out there traversing the globe. So it's really great. And I can tell you that what she's doing on Luke Cage, it's just incredible. The fans are really going to love it. And wait until you see Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing. She's amazing."

I'm not against any more Marvel, but at the rate they and Netflix are scheduling releases, I think it's too soon to continue to add more series. For example, because we are getting Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders all before the end of next year, we aren't going to see Season 3 of Daredevil or Season 2 of Jessica Jones until after that. And that's not even mentioning the fact that we were promised a Punisher series which now would already be backlogged to 2018!

Did I mention there have already been people clamoring for Moon Knight and other heroes to get a show as well?

I'm all for seeing more characters, but I'm not trying to wait a couple years between seasons! Either Netflix needs to loosen the reigns or Marvel needs to slow their roll...what do you think is the right answer?

Watch: The Cast of RICK AND MORTY Improvise a Short Episode

Rick and Morty has some ridiculous plot lines that always seem to be smarter than they appear at first glance. This isn't one of those. This is creators Dan Harmon, Justin Roiland, and the cast of the show improvising a scene in which Morty loses his knees because Rick put poop in them.

Even if it isn't smart, it is still pretty hilarious and off the cuff. Watch it below!

BAD SANTA 2 Red-Band Trailer: Santa's Back and Meaner Than Ever

Broad Green Pictures and Miramax have unveiled the first red-band trailer for Bad Santa 2, the Christmas sequel that sees Billy Bob Thornton returning to reprise his role as mall Santa Willie Soke thirteen years after the original. I'm sure Brett Kelly — the actor who plays Thurman Merman — is a nice guy in real life, but it's vaguely unsettling seeing him as a twenty-one year old here and not really seeming as if he's matured much during the intervening years. And the first mention of Christina Hendricks' character is...well, pretty obvious. Check it out and see for yourselves.

BAD SANTA 2 returns Academy Award®-winner BILLY BOB THORNTON to the screen as America's favorite anti-hero, Willie Soke. Fueled by cheap whiskey, greed and hatred, Willie teams up once again with his angry little sidekick, Marcus (TONY COX), to knock off a Chicago charity on Christmas Eve. Along for the ride is 'the kid' - chubby and cheery Thurman Merman (BRETT KELLY), a 250-pound ray of sunshine who brings out Willie's sliver of humanity.
Mommy issues arise when the pair are joined by Academy Award®, Golden Globe and Emmy-winner KATHY BATES, as Willie's horror story of a mother, Sunny Soke. A super butch super bitch, Sunny raises the bar for the gang's ambitions, while somehow lowering the standards of criminal behavior. Willie is further burdened by lusting after the curvaceous and prim Diane, played by Emmy Award-nominee CHRISTINA HENDRICKS, the charity director with a heart of gold and libido of steel.

You better watch out: BAD SANTA 2 is coming to town.

Fan Files Lawsuit Against SUICIDE SQUAD Over "Lack of Joker Scenes"

A UK fan and his brother have filed suit against WB for false advertising after viewing Suicide Squad. BlackPanther2016 took to Reddit to explain the situation in which he and his brother drove 300 miles to see the film and were disappointed that many of the Joker scenes they saw in the trailers were not in the film:

"Suicide Squad trailers showcased several SPECIFIC Joker scenes that I had to pay for the whole movie just so that I can go watch those SPECIFIC SCENES that WB/DC had advertised in their trailers and TV spots. These scenes are: When Joker banged his head on his car window, when Joker says, ''let me show you my toys'', when Joker punchs the roof of his car, when Joker drops a bomb with his face all messed up and says, ''BYE BYE!''. Non of these scenes were in the movie. I drove 300 miles to London to go watch these specific scenes they had explicitly advertised in their TV ads...and they didn't show them to me."

The Redditor and his brother (who is a lawyer) have filed suit and reportedly had their case accepted. They are wanting a refund (which was refused by the theater they attended) and compensation for the gas money they spent driving from Scotland to London to see the film in IMAX.

On one hand, yeah, I think it's sketchy for any film to show footage that will not appear in the actual film in your trailers. Even if cuts are made in post production, it sounds like more than a few things were removed that WB left in because fans wanted more of The Joker. On the other hand, THEY DROVE 300 MILES TO SEE SUICIDE SQUAD AND PASSED SEVERAL THEATERS ALONG THE WAY. Who does that?!

I guess my answer is "the same two guys who would be angry enough to file suit after being disappointed by the film." It'll be interesting to see how far this suit goes.

THOR: RAGNAROK: Tom Hiddleston Teases Loki's Return in Set Photo

Perhaps the most interesting and universally-liked villains of the Marvel Universe is officially on set and filming for Thor: Ragnarok! Tom Hiddleston took to Instagram to share a teaser photo of the god of mischief in costume. It's going to be nice to see him tangle with Thor and The Hulk again, especially after Hulk just pummeled him into oblivion at the end of The Avengers.

The first two Thor films weren't the greatest, but the third installment is shaping up to be something quite interesting. Director Taika Waititi hasn't dealt with many films, and certainly none as massive as this, but his films What We Do In The Shadows and Hunt For The Wilderpeople are really imaginative, and he seems to have a good ability to flesh out his characters in order to make his films very fun and entertaining. Combine this fresh look on the series with the return of Chris Hemsworth as the god of thunder himself, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, and Hiddleston's Loki in an "intergalactic buddy road trip," and I think we're going to be in for something special.

Thor: Ragnarok isn't due until November 3, 2017. I don't know about you, but I can't wait.

Listen: Mark Hamill Recorded a Voicemail Greeting for Jim Lee as The Joker

After being hyped for months beforehand, it turns out that Jared Leto's Joker was barely in Suicide Squad — so much so that a couple of guys are actually suing Warner Bros. for false advertising. I don't know, maybe you thought Leto was amazing in his limited screen time, but for me, there will always be one Joker that rises above the rest: Mark Hamill, who voiced the character in Batman: The Animated Series (and tons of stuff since then). Hamill's take on the Crown Prince of Crime is every bit as iconic as anything that's happened in live action, and he still has the best Joker laugh of any actor who's ever played him, hands down.

DC Comics Co-Publisher Jim Lee asked Hamill to record a voicemail greeting for him recently, instantly making millions of fans jealous. I guess we can take solace in the fact that actually calling people on the phone (let alone leaving a voicemail) is becoming more and more rare these days.

WOLVERINE 3 Might Be Patrick Stewart’s Final X-MEN Film

It doesn’t look like Hugh Jackman is the only one who is going to retire for the X-Men franchise. Wolverine 3 is going to be his last time in the role of Logan, and it seems like it might also be Patrick Stewart's last time playing Professor X.

While speaking to a group of reporters about the film recently, Stewart himself said that this will most likely be his final X-Men movie. Here’s the direct quote from the actor thanks to itv:

“I would imagine this is probably the end of this franchise for me. But the thing about science fiction and fantasy is that you can never, ever say it’s the end, it’s over.”

He still leaves the door open because you never know what will happen, but it does sound like he’s ready to be done with it. Stewart has played Professor Xavier on and off since X-Men was released in 2000. He goes on to say that this will be “a very different Charles Xavier… nothing like the Charles Xavier you’ve seen in the past.”

That's an intriguing comment, and I can’t wait to see how this character is so different from his past iterations.

I do think the franchise is at the point know where they could move forward without Stewart because James McAvoy has been kicking ass in the role, and the last movie set up the franchise to where it could focus on younger versions of the X-Men characters anyway. I doubt there will be any more time traveling story elements... At least I hope there’s not!

I’ve loved Stewart and Jackman in the roles they’ve played in the X-Men franchise, and it’s sad to see them leaving, but they can’t play these characters forever! With Wolverine 3 being their last X-Men film together, hopefully, they give them a spectacularly awesome send-off.

The New CHRONICLES OF NARNIA Film Is Moving Forward with LIFE OF PI Scribe and Financing

Tristan Pictures and producer Mark Gordon are teaming up to develop another film in The Chronicles of Narnia franchise. They are developing a big screen adaptation of C.S. LewisThe Silver Chair, which is being financed by Entertainment One. Earlier this year it was reported that this film will be used to reboot the franchise. During a previously interview, Gordon said:

“It’s all going to be a brand new franchise. All original. All original characters, different directors, and an entire new team that this is coming from.”

So I assume none of the original cast are going to be coming back either. They’ve hired Life of Pi screenwriter David Magee to adapt the book as a feature film. I loved Life of Pi, so this gives me hope that the movie will at least have a solid script.

I never thought this film franchise reached its full potential. All of the movies have been made so far were ok, but they weren’t great. They’ve never gone to the level of epicness of films like Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings, and that’s the level that these Chronicles of Narnia films need to be.

The Silver Chair is set a decade into Narnia’s future. It’s kind of a standalone story, which makes it perfect for a reboot point. If you're not familiar, here’s the official description of the story:

NARNIA...where owls are wise, where some of the giants like to snack on humans, where a prince is put under an evil spell...and where the adventure begins. Eustace and Jill escape from the bullies at school through a strange door in the wall, which, for once, is unlocked. It leads to the open moor...or does it? Once again Aslan has a task for the children, and Narnia needs them. Through dangers untold and caverns deep and dark, they pursue the quest that brings them face and face with the evil Witch. She must be defeated if Prince Rillian is to be saved.

I really hope for the best for this adaption of The Silver Chair. It’s a great story and hopefully whatever filmmaking team they bring together to tell this story will be able to give it that fantastical epicness that it deserves.

From CORALINE to KUBO: A Magical Laika Experience — Photos of Exhibit Featuring Props, Models, and More

Last Friday, Joey and I had the chance to visit the Universal Studios lot and see an early press screening of Laika's new stop-motion film Kubo and the Two Strings. The film is a stunner, a timeless story with wonderful characters and a truly classic adventure vibe to it (you'll be able to read Joey's review in the next few days), but the big draw for us was an exhibit set up inside the theme park's Globe Theater that housed a ton of props, models, and artwork from all of the films the company has made so far. It's called From Coraline to Kubo: A Magical Laika Experience, and if you're in the L.A. area between now and August 14th and you get a chance to visit Universal Studios, make sure you stop in and check it out.

Joey took our Facebook friends on a tour of the exhibit that you can watch in the video below, but if you're looking for some closer shots of what the event has to offer, check out these photos (all taken by Amy Pearson). Trivia: I overheard one of the guides in the exhibit mention that some of these models — which were all actually used in the movies, by the way — cost $80,000 each!
