Eli Roth Announces His New Horror Sci-Fi Space Film MISSION: FEAR with a Teaser Trailer

Director Eli Roth has been working on a secret horror film project that he recently announced called Mission: Fear. It's a sci-fi horror film that is set in space, and he released a teaser trailer for it. There's no footage from the film, just a really weird voice over from a guy who sounds like Snake from The Simpsons. He introduces the film and says, "In space, nothing can prepare you for... Mission: Fear." The trailer came with the following caption from Roth:

"I can't keep this quiet any longer! Super secret no more. MISSION: FEAR is coming soon!"

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the films Roth makes. Cabin Fever was his best one, but then he just regressed as a filmmaker and never did anything different. I imagine this next film of his will be more of the same horror torture stuff he does, only it will be set in space.

Mission: Fear is set to be released in April of 2017. Are you looking forward to seeing a sci-fi film from Eli Roth?

DC Movie Fans Have Started a Petition to Shut Down Rotten Tomatoes for Their Negative Impact

If you look up any of the most recent DC films on Rotten Tomatoes, they don't have very good ratings. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice currently has a 27% score, and the highly anticipated Suicide Squad has earned a 33% rating, which I think is ridiculous because I thought the movie was great! My review will be published later today.

Anyway, DC fans aren't happy with the negativity that they claim Rotten Tomatoes is spreading, so they started a petition to shut it down! The petition is being hosted by Change.org, and this is what the petition says (all misspellings and bizarre capitalizations theirs):

"We need this site to be shut down because It's Critics always give The DC Extended Universe movies unjust Bad Reviews, Like
1- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 2016
2- Suicide Squad 2016

and that Affects people's opinion even if it's a really great movies"

The goal they want to reach is 15,000 signatures, and so far they have over 11,500. What's funny about this petition is that Warner Bros., the studio who produces these DC films, actually owns a minority stake in Rotten Tomatoes.

No matter how many signatures the petition gets, Rotten Tomatoes isn't going anywhere. I will say that Rotten Tomatoes doesn't really allow fanboy and fangirl reviewers into their little club, so I'm not sure if the fans really have a voice on Rotten Tomatoes. Obviously, the majority of the movie reviewers who Rotten Tomatoes has approved have not liked what Warner Bros. is doing with the DCEU, but they sure do like what Marvel is doing!

In the end, I do think that Suicide Squad is getting a bad rap. It doesn't deserve the hate that it's been getting.

Well, the Fast and Furious franchise is taking their vehicle power to a whole new level with Fast 8. For the first time in the franchise, Vin Diesel will be driving a car that’s been suped-up with a freakin’ jet engine!

We get our first look at the jet-powered, armored Dodge Charger thanks to a post from Jada Toys. The jet engine was installed so that Diesel’s character Dominic Toretto will be able to "navigate the frozen Arctic tundra."

I can’t wait to see the car stunts and chase scenes that we’ll see in Fast 8. They get more and more insane with every movie, and when you throw a jet engine into one of the cars, you know they are going to be pulling off some crazy shot that we’ve never seen before!

Fast 8 will be released on April 14th, 2017.

Thats a wrap for Dub Show! Thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth today to catch Dom's Ice Charger to be featured in #F8 🙌🏼

THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS Gets a Sequel Set For 2018

I was not a fan of Illumination Entertainment's The Secret Life of Pets, a chaotic mess featuring jackass characters that has absolutely nothing to say. But how could the world resist the concept of seeing what their pets do when humans aren't around? The movie has made over $400 million worldwide on a $75 million budget, so you know what that means: sequel time.

Illumination and Universal Pictures announced that The Secret Life of Pets 2 will hit theaters on July 13, 2018. Writer Brian Lynch (Minions) and director Chris Renaud (Despicable Me, The Lorax) will return to their respective jobs for the new movie, but there's no word yet on which (if any) of the voice actors will return to reprise their roles. The first movie starred Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate, and more, and I suspect they'll all be back for more madcap action in the sequel.

Review: SUICIDE SQUAD Was Freakin’ Awesome! Screw The Bad Reviews!

Like most of you, I was hoping for great things from director David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. For me, this was going to be the movie that would make or break the DCEU films at Warner Bros. I was let down by Man of Steel and Batman v Superman was littered with issues, but I’m thrilled to tell you that Suicide Squad delivered everything I hoped for and more! It was such an unexpectedly awesome movie!

Just so you know, I’m not going to get into any spoilers in this review, and believe me, there are plenty of awesome plot points that I could spoil for you if I wanted to! You could have watched every trailer for this film and read every spoilery news piece for Suicide Squad and nothing would have spoiled this movie for you. It was full of surprises I didn’t see coming and it was really refreshing not knowing what was going to happen. The studio seemed to do a great job keeping some of the most fun aspects of the film a surprise, including one of the villains who was pretty badass.

I thought the story and the characters of this film were solidly handled. The story and script were tight and this was very much a character study of all the main characters that filled it. Ayer did an incredible job developing each and every one of the main characters that were introduced in the film. A little over halfway through the movie, I actually cared for these characters and what happened to them. I was emotionally invested in each one of them, especially Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Diablo, and Rick Flagg. There were a lot of characters in the movie, but they were balanced so perfectly. I was seriously shocked by how well Ayer brought these characters to life with such precision.

One of the things that I wasn’t expecting at all when I saw this movie was the powerful background of the characters and the explosion of emotion in the film. Don’t get me wrong, the movie was insanely fun and action-packed, but this is easily one of the most emotional comic book movies that has been made, and that includes what we’ve seen in most of the Marvel films. There was so much emotional depth in these characters. At one point, one of them shared their background story with the other Task Force X team members, and it was so powerful, I'll admit I got a little choked up.

That being said, I do have to say that as much as I enjoyed Jared Leto’s version of The Joker, he was the least developed character in the movie and he was only in it for about 10 minutes. He was handled fine, but there’s just so much more depth to that character and this film barely scratched the surface. I hope that they explore him more in some of the other upcoming films. He’s definitely a character worth exploring, I just wasn’t personally as invested in him as most of the other characters. It was a fun new version of the villain and I think fans will be torn on him. Some of you will love him and other might hate him. The story doesn’t revolve around him, though, so ultimately I think the movie might have given us just the right amount of the Joker.

As for the actors that portrayed the characters, Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Joel Kinnaman, Jared LetoJay Hernandez, and Viola Davis shined in film and all gave fantastic performances. They all amazingly brought their characters to life, and they are people you don't want to mess with. They are as hardcore as hardcore can get, and that came across in their performances.

This is honestly the best DC movie to come out of Warner Bros. since Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. It also rivals a few of the Marvel films that have been made because we’ve never seen anything like this from Marvel. The best Marvel movie I could compare it to is Guardians of the Galaxy because of the radical ensemble cast of misfit characters. I’d also say that the emotional investment in the characters is comparable to Guardians of the Galaxy, but in different ways.

On top of the well-crafted story and characters, it's got all of the cool spectacular visuals and designs to make it pop with awesomeness. Suicide Squad is a movie that you do not want to miss on the big screen! It’s a hardcore action film with a beautiful, emotion-filled story about redemption that I think fans and audiences can appreciate. This movie is a wild and fun ride and if you just let yourself be engulfed in this world, I think you'll enjoy the hell out it.

I’ve seen that the movie is getting some bad reviews, so the movie obviously isn’t for everyone. If you didn’t like it and you don’t agree with my review, feel free to give me crap in the comments below, but you won’t change my mind. There was one thing that happened in the film that was kind of a WTF moment between Batman and Harley Quinn — I won't get into it here because I don't want to spoil anything, but I did think to myself, "what in the hell was that all about?" I didn't understand its place in the movie, it didn't really need to be there, but I didn't let it ruin the movie for me.

The film wasn't perfect, but Ayer made something completely unique and different, and if people can’t embrace that...oh well. All I know is that I had a blast watching Suicide Squad! Some people will think I’m crazy for liking it as much as I did, but I think people are crazy for not liking it, so to each their own.

Report: Tony Gilroy is Supervising ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY Editing

$

There has been a lot of talk about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story over the past few months, and a lot of it has centered on the extensive multi-week reshoots that took place a little while back. The studio reportedly wasn't happy with what they were seeing, they wanted it to feel more like a classic Star Wars film, and while one report stated around 40% of the movie was reshot during that period, Kathleen Kennedy assured fans that the reshoots were planned from the start and were scheduled for them to make the movie they always wanted to make.

THR reports that Tony Gilroy (The Bourne Legacy, Michael Clayton), who is an uncredited writer for Rogue One, was "the driving force" behind the reshoots, and now he's been "empowered to take the lead on postproduction" even though director Gareth Edwards is supposedly still involved. Gilroy is reportedly "supervising" the edit with input from Edwards, though one of their sources paint the picture as being more collaborative instead of a doom and gloom scenario:

"There are not two separate editing rooms; they are all in there with their ideas," says one source close to the production. "Tony's a strong force, but they're all working together."

Gilroy helped Edwards out during the making of 2014's Godzilla, so the two have a history. The reshoots apparently "tackled several issues" with the movie, including its ending, which, as most of you know, is said to lead into the events of A New Hope.

I want to believe that this isn't a big deal, because I've liked everything I've seen from Rogue One so far. And that could very well be the case: many of the Star Wars movies have had some behind-the-scenes woes, most recently including J.J. Abrams reshooting chunks of The Force Awakens to improve the friendship between Daisy Ridley and John Boyega and to give Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron some of his best lines. We might not notice anything awry when the movie comes out on December 16th, but if the film turns out to be a total disaster, I suppose this was a warning sign.

Supercut: All of The HARRY POTTER Movie Spells Cast in Alphabetical Order

I just finished rewatching all of the Harry Potter movies, and since I've never read the books, I have to admit that I couldn't quite keep track all of the different spells and exactly what they meant across all eight movies. This supercut from Davide Rapp was especially helpful for me because it tracks all of the spells alphabetically and chronologically. So for those, like me, who need a little help, and for the rest of you diehard Potter maniacs who already know the difference between a confundus and a rictusempra, enjoy:

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY Takes Place Before Original STAR TREK

The new streaming exclusive Star Trek: Discovery series will take place before the original the original series according to Ain't It Cool News. The evidence was apparently on the teaser for the ship "Discovery" the entire time. Showrunner Bryan Fuller elaborates:

“There’s a big clue in the number of the ship [NCC-1031] that indicates when we’re set,”

The registry number of the original Enterprise series was NCC-1701, so it's safe to say this takes place quite a bit before Kirk and Spock hit the skies. Just how far before remains to be seen! We can assume the series at least takes place after Star Trek: Enterprise, but I don't know anything for certain. It would be really cool if we see the same era that Tiberius Kirk was alive!

I still have no plans to buy CBS All Access for this show and I'm super envious of the non-US and Canada crowd who will get to watch it on Netflix! Why can't they just air it on television?!

Fuller says he's going to be dropping a lot more spoilers for the series on August 10th, so keep those pointed ears out, Star Trek fans!

There Was Tons of Behind-The-Scenes Drama During The Making of SUICIDE SQUAD

$

I haven't seen Suicide Squad yet myself, but the movie has been getting absolutely pummeled by a majority of critics so far (but Joey loved it). A new piece by THR presents a few reasons why the film may not have struck the right chord with audiences so far, shining a light on the chaos of its development and a lot of behind-the-scenes drama as the project raced toward the finish line. You should really take a few minutes and read the entire piece, but I'll pull out a few highlights here.

This was another tentpole film that was behind the 8-ball from the start, being forced to hit a pre-established release date instead of having a bit of time to perfect the script. Ayer reportedly wrote it in six weeks and basically rolled straight into filming. The idea of moving the date apparently wasn't on the table:

Another source closely involved with the film says once it was dated, pushing back the release was not an option: "It's not just that you've told the public the movie is coming, you've made huge deals around the world with huge branding partners, with merchandise partners. It's a really big deal to move a tentpole date."

Blindsided by the "tepid" reaction to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the studio wanted to make sure that Suicide Squad accurately delivered on the lighthearted tone promised in its first trailer, but Ayer had a more "somber" version of the film in mind. So WB let him work on his cut, but they enlisted the help of Trailer Park, a company that cuts movie trailers for studios, to edit an entirely different cut of the movie that more closely aligned with their vision.

Multiple editors jumped on and off the film, with the only credited one — John Gilroy (Pacific Rim) — leaving before the completion of the movie and one source saying Michael Tronick was the final editor. The two versions of the movie were tested on audiences, and the plan was to reach a compromise between the two tones, but there was "a lot of panic and ego instead of calmly addressing the tonal issue." Apparently "the studio-favored version with more characters introduced early in the film and jazzed-up graphics won."

When all is said and done, one source says the studio will need to make between $750 and $800 million at the box office just to break even, which doesn't seem like a great position to be in with largely bad word of mouth going around because of the reviews.

Again, the full piece is absolutely worth reading, so I suggest doing that if you have some time to spare. Suicide Squad's first public screenings begin tomorrow night.

Humor: The Flash Brings A Rap From The Future To Bruce Wayne

Bear with me here, because this video is actually pretty good. You wouldn't know it from the first two minutes of snot-nosed Jesse Eisenberg saying "ding ding ding" and heroes shouting "MARTHA," but once you hit the 1:53 mark, the real fun begins.

The Auralnauts composed a rap hitting on the criticisms of Batman v Superman and it's good! At first I was asking myself if The Flash always had a beard in this sequence and then I realized I'm an idiot. You'll also see some references to the Justice League as well. Check out the full video (although I highly encourage you to skip ahead to the rap) below.

Keegan-Michael Key Says KEY & PEELE Could Return One Day

Along with Parks and Recreation, one of the shows I miss the most that's ended over the past few years is Comedy Central's Key & Peele. The show was absolutely brilliant (though it dropped a bit in quality during its last season), and being able to tune in every week and be able to get these guys' unique outlook of the world was something I looked forward to in a big way.

It's been nearly a year since their show went off the air, and in the meantime, the title duo reunited for KeanuJordan Peele has gone off to make a horror movie, and Keegan-Michael Key plays a big role in a drama about improv comedy called Don't Think Twice. But in a great new interview with Uproxx, Key says that not only is is possible that Key & Peele comes back one day, but that it's actually probable:

I think it’s absolutely possible. Absolutely possible. I, and I cannot speak for my partner, I would say that it’s probable. Maybe what it is is that Jordan and I, you know, we made Keanu, we make another film. We make another film, and then maybe our fourth film is a sketch film. Like you said, it’s still so fresh. We haven’t discussed this or talked about it. But that’s something that I would welcome. That I would welcome. I would really enjoy doing that.
Now, the only other very germane thing to discuss, would be why are we doing this? What would the reason for doing it be? So I’d have to share my criteria with Jordan and that criteria, of course, would develop over the next decade, wouldn’t it? And he would have to share his criteria with me. We could figure out, together, what situation would be better.

I am definitely looking forward to seeing what these guys do in their careers both separately and together, but being such a big fan of the show, I have to admit that the idea of these guys reuniting for more episodes sounds really fun. But as mentioned in that interview, maybe the best way to go about it would be to make a sketch movie instead of committing to a whole new season of television. But perhaps without the time constraints of typical year-in, year-out TV seasons, they could take their time making it and drop a bunch of great new episodes on us with no warning. Either way, I'm just glad we'll be seeing more of these guys in the future in any capacity, because they're awesome.

If you've never seen the show, or missed a few episodes, you can now watch all of Key & Peele legally online for free.

Video Examines The Scenes Cut From AMERICAN BEAUTY and How That Decision Saved The Film

As Lessons From The Screenplay points out in his video, films don't get much better than American Beauty. So it may shock you to learn that nearly a 1/5th of the film was cut prior to it coming to theaters! That's a considerable chunk to cut that, in the modern internet era, would raise some eyebrows and get some traction around the net. Yet Sam Mendes took out what some would consider key scenes and ended up with a cinematic masterpiece.

ALL of this cut content was done for the better. I think you'll agree after learning what was taken out!

Ruffalo isn't required for a bulk of the mo-cap experience, and the small bits we saw during the Marvel SDCC panel ensure that he is indeed in a bulk of the film and some insane fight scenes!

Considering how fast Ruffalo was whisked off set, it's safe to say this film will contain a ton of action! Can't wait to see a trailer!

MR. ROBOT's Rami Malek Cast in PAPILLON Remake Opposite Charlie Hunnam

I've never seen Papillon, the 1973 prison break movie starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman, but it's getting a Hollywood remake with Charlie Hunnam in the lead role originally played by McQueen. Now Deadline says that Mr. Robot star Rami Malek has signed on to the movie as well, and he'll be playing the role originally played by Hoffman. Michael Noer (Northwest) is directing, and Prisoners screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski wrote the script.

The film is a contemporary retelling of the original, which was based on the memoirs of convicted felon and fugitive Henri Charriere. He was a petty criminal from the Parisian underworld who was unjustly convicted of murder in 1930s France. He staged an epic escape from Devil’s Island, a notorious penal colony in French Guiana in South America, aided by quirky counterfeiter Louis Dega.

This seems like a part that will be a breeze for Malek to play. To get a better sense of what the movie is about, watch the trailer below — but beware, it's almost four minutes long, so I'm pretty sure it basically gives away the entire movie.

Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs. The World wasn't a big hit when it was first released, but it almost immediately became a cult classic and is widely seen as one of the best comic book movies ever made. But what if Wright took the same stylistic choices that made that comic (and his movie) so awesome and applied them to a trilogy of Batman movies? Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy might look something like this:

Bad news for fans of the PlayStation original series Powers: after two seasons, it seems like the adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis' comic has been officially cancelled. Bendis himself took to Twitter to break the news to his fanbase:

As you can see, it seems like he's leaving the door open for a possible return sometime in the future should the people at Sony decide to bring it back in some form. In fact, he said there were people behind the scenes who are still pulling for the show to survive:

But for now, anyway, the show is finished. Powers was the PlayStation's first original series, and it remains to be seen what new forays (if any) the company has planned to replace this show. What did you think about Powers' second season? Would you want to see more if it came back, or did it get the ending it deserved?
