the-gang-is-back-in-the-teaser-trailer-for-t2-trainspotting

A new teaser trailer has been released Danny Boyle's T2: Trainspotting and it features the gang back together again. We see Ewan McGregor as Renton, Jonny Lee Miller as Sick Boy, Ewen Bremner as Spud, and Robert Carlyle as Francis Begbie in a recreation of a familiar scene that you will probably recognize from the first movie.

The sequel is loosely based on Welsh’s Trainspotting follow-up novel, Porno. It takes place 20 years after the events of the first film, and John Hodge’s script "brilliantly explores what’s happened to them—and to us—in the intervening years."

T2: Trainspotting will be released in the UK on January 27th, 2017 and then in the US on February 10th, 2017.

Video: GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 — Comic-Con Panel

One of the best panels at this weekend's San Diego Comic-Con was Marvel's Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2. They showed us some very exciting footage that you can read about here. We finally have confirmation that Kurt Russell is playing Peter Quill's father, who is a planet named Ego that takes human form. Yes, that's insane, but it is a James Gunn film after all. You can view Ego's costume here. Another large surprise was that we saw Sylvester Stallone in what looked like a Nova Corps uniform (another rumor confirmed).

None of that awesome footage is online. It's going to be several months before they release it, I estimate around November or December. To tide you over ,we filmed as much of the panel as Marvel would allow. On the panel were Gunn, Russell, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Elizabeth Debicki, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, and Chris Sullivan.

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 comes out May 5th, 2017 (USA).

During the Gotham panel at Comic-Con, Fox premiered a great extended promo video for the series that offers us a highlight reel of season two and gives us our first look at what is in store for fans in season three, which as we know will heavily focus on the Court of Owls.

Some of the other new villains that we'll see include Mad Hatter (Benedict Samuel), Solomon Grundy, and an older, 19-year-old version of Poison Ivy, who’s "harnessed the full power of her charms and sets her sights on Bruce Wayne." The new version of the character will be played by Maggie Geha

Gotham stars Ben McKenzie as Detective James Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, Michael Chiklis as Detective Nathaniel Barnes, Sean Pertwee as Alfred, Robin Lord Taylor as The Penguin, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle, Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma, Chris Chalk as Lucius Fox, and Jamie Chung as Valerie Vale.

Gotham season three will premiere on September 19th on Fox.

Video: DOCTOR STRANGE — Full Comic-Con Panel with Benedict Cumberbatch

A new trailer for Marvel's Doctor Strange was released at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, which was just a sample of what was presented during that panel. The director Scott Derrickson and Doctor Strange himself Benedict Cumberbatch were joined by Tilda Swinton, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen, and Benedict Wong. They all spoke about their characters and the film's production. Based purely on footage, Doctor Strange was my favorite panel. The visuals and the design are beautifully transdimensional.

Doctor Strange projects itself into theaters November 4, 2016.

ARMY OF DARKNESS Will Play a Part in ASH VS. EVIL DEAD Season 2

I love the Evil Dead franchise and my favorite film in it is Army of Darkness. We've previously heard talk of a sequel to Army of Darkness, but it looks like the elements of that film are going to play a part in the Starz series Ash Vs. Evil Dead, which is freakin' badass!

The news was confirmed by executive producer Rob Tapert during the Ash Vs. Evil Dead panel at Comic-Con. I was really hoping we would get to see that part of Ash's history incorporated into the series and the fact that it's happening is exciting!

According to Tapert, the reason you didn't see it acknowledged in the first season is because the rights were owned by MGM and they "just never had a chance to properly reference it in the first season.” Tapert went on to explain:

"I read somebody’s online thing, ‘Oh look, they’re only pulling from these two [Evil Dead] movies.’ This season, we do bring up Ash’s events in Army of Darkness, and reference it. It was more that there wasn’t a place for it in our storytelling that we needed to talk about that. If he started blabbing to these shop clerks about, ‘Yeah, I went back to the Middle Ages and did all these things,’ [it would just be exposition]. But that is in his memory bank, and he’s going to pull it out at the appropriate time."

That's so freakin' cool and it will be fun to see how exactly the events of Army of Darkness are depicted and represented in Ash Vs. Evil Dead.

There's also still a possibility that we could see a fourth Evil Dead film! That concept is not dead even though there's a TV series. Tapert was asked about it and he said:

"Nothing’s off the table. We’re thinking about what that could be, and who that would please. Sam [Raimi] talked for many years, teasing the world that we were going to make Evil Dead 4. And that kind of turned into a TV series. Now Bruce [Campbell] and I are going, ‘Well, there’s a possibility of a movie here.’”

As much as I love the series, it would still be so cool to see another movie! If they have a good idea and everyone is on board, they should totally do it!

What do you all think about Army of Darkness being incorporated in Ash Vs. Evil Dead and about the possibility of a fourth Evil Dead film? In case you missed it, make sure to watch the Ash Vs. Evil Dead Season 2 trailer here!

Sigourney Weaver and James Cameron Love Neill Blomkamp's ALIEN 5 Script

When Neill Blomkamp announced that he was developing Alien 5 with Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn, fans went crazy. It seemed like the sequel to James Cameron's Aliens that we have all been waiting for. Unfortunately, Fox put it on the backburner so Ridley Scott could make his new Alien prequel trilogy first.

During the Aliens 30th anniversary panel at Comic-Con over the weekend, Weaver and Cameron talked about the script and praised what Blomkamp did with the story. Weaver says:

“There is an incredible script by Neill. I didn’t want to do a fifth one. I thought going to earth wouldn’t be fun. I got this script that was amazing and gives fans everything they’re looking for and innovates in ways that became part of the world for me. He has things to do and I have things to do. And I hope that we’ll circle back around to do it once those things are done.”

Cameron has also read Blomkamp's script and it seems like he loved what he did with the story and thought it was a strong script. Cameron went on to say:

“I think it works gangbusters. He shared it with me, and I think it’s a very strong script and he could go make it tomorrow. I don’t know anything about the production, and I don’t know what Ridley [Scott]’s doing. But hopefully there’ll be room for both of them. Like parallel universes.”

The filmmaker then went on to completely trash David Fincher's Alien 3. When addressing the deaths of Newt and Hicks in that film, Cameron said:

“I thought it was dumb. I thought it was a huge slap in the face to the fans. I mean look, Fincher’s a friend of mine, and David is an amazing, amazing filmmaker, unquestionably. That was kind of his first big gig, and he was getting vectored around by the studio, and he dropped into the production late and they had a horrible script and they were rewriting it on the fly, and it was just a mess. I think it was a big mistake. So I certainly, had producer Gale Anne Hurd and I been involved, we would not have done that because we felt we earned something with the audience with those characters.”

It's not easy making sequels because most sequels suck, but Cameron has managed to make two insanely awesome sequels including Aliens and Terminator 2. The guy obviously knows what he's doing and when talking about developing a sequel, he said:

“I think there’s a tricky balance when you’re doing a sequel, between making it fresh, surprising the audience, but not surprising them with such a swerve that they feel that it’s not honoring the first film. You’ve got to play to expectations, you’ve got to play against expectations. And I always think that it’s about answering a question that you didn’t know to ask. But when they see it, it seems obvious.”

I hope that one day Blomkamp get to make his Alien 5 movie. It's cool to see Weaver and Cameron embrace and applaud what Blomkamp has done and it should give fans a peace of mind that if this film ever happens, it's going to be good and worth the wait. You can watch the full panel below:

It's been thirteen years since Billy Bob Thornton first donned a Santa Claus costume and played the drunken mall Santa Willie Soke in Bad Santa, but we're living in a time in which any movie with a hint of name recognition is in danger of being remade or sequelized, so Bad Santa 2 is coming to theaters this year, with Christina Hendricks replacing Lauren Graham as a new love interest for Willie.

Now we have the first teaser trailer for the new movie, and while it doesn't reveal much, it does show Thornton back in the suit and bewildered at the request of a new kid on his lap. Are you excited about returning to this cinematic world? Let us know below.

THE GET DOWN Trailer: "It's About Music, Man"

Here's the brand new full trailer for Baz Luhrmann's new Netflix series The Get Down. The show made headlines last year when it cast Will Smith's son Jaden, but I didn't notice him in this trailer; since I think he's a terrible actor, I'm really hoping he'll have nothing more than a cameo in an episode or two. Thankfully, however, it does look to have the potential for a bunch of breakout performances from young, up-and-coming actors, and — as you'd expect from a Luhrmann production — a stylish visual flair. What do you think? Are you going to tune in to this one?

The Get Down hits Netflix on August 12th.

The Get Down focuses on 1970s New York — broken down and beaten up, violent, cash strapped — dying. Consigned to rubble, a rag-tag crew of South Bronx teenagers are nothings and nobodies with no one to shelter them — except each other, armed only with verbal games, improvised dance steps, some magic markers and spray cans. From Bronx tenements, to the SoHo art scene; from CBGB to Studio 54 and even the glass towers of the just-built World Trade Center, The Get Down is a mythic saga of how New York at the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to hip-hop, punk and disco — as told through the lives and music of the South Bronx kids who changed the city and the world…forever.

Suicide Squad is so close to release that when director David Ayer and stars Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Jared Leto, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Karen Fukuhara, Adam Beach, Jay Hernandez, and Scott Eastwood hit the Hall H stage at Comic-Con, there wasn't much new present. We have sixteen minutes of the cast talking about the much-hyped film. I can't wait to watch Suicide Squad next week; it just looks like a lot of fun. I'm really interested to see what Leto does with the Joker.

Disney is Reportedly Planning a Young Han Solo Trilogy with Alden Ehrenreich

When word came out that Hail, Caesar! star Alden Ehrenreich had been chosen to play the young Han Solo in Phil Lord and Chris Miller's upcoming Star Wars spin-off movie, for some reason I thought he'd only be appearing in one Han Solo movie and maybe have a cameo or supporting role in other Star Wars Story spin-offs. I think it's because the only official Star Wars Story we know much about, Rogue One, leads directly into the events of A New Hope with the Rebels stealing the Death Star plans, so I assumed the new Han Solo story would also lead into A New Hope.

But if this new report from the New York Daily News is to be believed, that may not be the case at all. They're claiming that Disney is developing a trilogy of Han Solo films with Ehrenreich at the center, and the studio is presumably waiting to officially pull the trigger on the two sequels until they see if the first one does well enough at the box office.

“They feel that his character has the right potential to become a central figure in several movies,” our source said. “They’re keeping things under wraps at the moment, but the deal is that he has signed for at least three movies.”

Again, I thought maybe Ehrenreich would have signed a multi-movie contract, but that his other appearances would come in other movies (rumor had it a while back that he was filming a small part in Rogue One, though that has yet to be confirmed). But it makes sense from Disney and Lucasfilm's perspective to keep the story open-ended so they can get the most out of Ehrenreich over the next few years. The actor will be twenty-eight years old when the first Solo movie hits theaters in summer of 2018, and Harrison Ford was thirty-five when A New Hope came out, so there's a multi-year window they could pump out a few more Han stories before his age catches up with the timeline (and even then, there's not a guarantee he'll stop when he turns thirty-five).

It's a little early to know if we want three whole movies devoted to this version of Han Solo, but since I have faith in Lord and Miller, I'll say that if they're also involved, I'd be interested in seeing what they brought to the table.

Elijah Wood is a Reluctant Sidekick in BBC America's DIRK GENTLY Comic-Con Trailer

Chronicle writer Max Landis is a wildly divisive figure in the film industry right now, but he's gotta be doing something right, because the dude is always working. One of his new projects is executive producing a new show called Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency for BBC America, and the show's first trailer hit Comic-Con this past weekend.

The series, which stars Samuel Barnett as the time-traveling private detective Dirk Gently and Elijah Wood as his exasperated sidekick Todd, is based on the characters created by The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy writer Douglas Adams in his novel which shares this series' title. I really like the execution of this trailer, which zooms in and out of a bunch of screens to tell its story. Check it out and let us know what you think.

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency hits BBC America on October 22, 2016.

This weekend, a new trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them premiered at San Diego Comic-Con and was released online immediately after. What you didn't see is star Eddie Redmayne frantically handing out wands to geeks in Hall H...it's pretty funny and cool. Joining Redmayne on the panel is director David Yates and cast members Colin Farrell, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, and Alison Loren Sudol aka A Fine Frenzy. Everyone was pretty tight-lipped about the story, so they mostly talked about the film's production and the amazing costumes by Colleen Atwood. Like many of you, I'm very excited to return to the wizarding world.

Fantastic Beasts stomps into theaters November 18, 2016.

Michael Fassbender Says ALIEN: COVENANT Will Be "Super Scary"

I really liked Prometheus the first time I saw it. I was swept up in the visuals (say what you will about that movie, but it looks wonderful), and I loved the idea of being back in the hands of Ridley Scott as he returned to an iconic movie universe he created years before with the first Alien. But after leaving the theater and really thinking about it, I realized the film is completely let down by the idiotic decisions of many of its characters — so much so that the film is pretty much ruined for me at this point. I can't take it seriously as a movie because the script fails the movie on such a massive level.

So naturally, I'm a little hesitant about Scott returning to that world again with Alien: Covenant, his sequel that still serves as a prequel to the original Alien. But some great casting choices and cool statements like this from returning star Michael Fassbender are making me get excited about the film in spite of myself. Fassbender told Collider:

"This Alien is going to be… I’m very excited to see it and everybody in the film was saying this is a film that we all want to see. It’s much scarier than Prometheus but it’s got the same sort of scope of Prometheus. It’s kind of got more of the sort of thriller, imminent disaster feel that Alien had, so it’s kind of a beautiful meeting of both of those films. I’m really excited to see it, I think it’s gonna be super scary number one and then again with the massive scope of Prometheus…Once it starts and the ball starts rolling, it doesn’t let up. It’s really gonna bring chills to the cinema."

That's very encouraging to hear, because Prometheus could have used a few more scares...or at least a bigger, better sense of utter dread permeating the whole thing. We'll see if Alien: Covenant can improve on what came before it when it arrives in theaters on August 4, 2017.

Charlie Hunnam Won't Return For PACIFIC RIM 2

It was just a few days ago that Guillermo del Toro was promising "a lot" of the cast from the first Pacific Rim would be coming back to reprise their roles in Pacific Rim 2, but it turns out that statement doesn't apply to the first film's lead protagonist. In an interview with Yahoo Movies, Charlie Hunnam revealed that he won't be returning for the upcoming sequel:

"I'm very excited about it. I'm glad they're making it, and I think it's going to be great. I read an early draft of what they're doing, and there was one incarnation of this sequel that involved me heavily, but I was unavailable. They have a very definite schedule that they have to film because of the politics and business surrounding filmmaking. Sometimes non-creative decisions will dictate how something unfolds, which seems bass ackwards in fact that we're making art...(laughs) or at least aspiring to make art.
But yeah, it just ended up being, unfortunately, something that we couldn't remedy because by the time they got their schedule fully realized, I wasn't available. But I think they're onto something very exciting. I think it's a serious, significant progression which you always hope it will be, right? That you don't just rest on your laurels and do what you've already done again. It feels like they're really aspiring to push this thing forward and do something original with the sequel, so it's cool."

Hunnam made a blip on the radar at Comic-Con by appearing in Guy Ritchie's King Arthur: Legend of the Sword trailer, and I know WB has big plans to turn that into a multi-movie franchise. But based on how godawful that trailer is, I'm not convinced they'll ever get to make one sequel to it, let alone the five they have in mind, so there could come a time when he's wishing he was able to star in Pacific Rim 2.

I have to say, though, as great as Hunnam has been in some of his film and TV projects (check out Green Street Hooligans if you haven't seen it), John Boyega as the new lead seems like a massive upgrade.

Pacific Rim 2 hits theaters on February 23, 2018.
