sylvester-stallone-confirmed-for-guardians-of-the-galaxy-vol-2

Earlier this year we heard rumors that Sylvester Stallone was going to make an appearance in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Well, those rumors turned out to be true! I saw some footage of Stallone in the movie when the trailer was screened at the panel at Comic-Con.

There was no information on who exactly he would be playing, but he is a part of the Nova Corps because that's the costume he was wearing. I doubt it will be a big role, but it was a lot of fun to see him included in this crazy awesome universe. When talking about Stallone's involvement on his Facebook page, Gunn Said:

"YES, SYLVESTER STALLONE IS IN THE FILM
"This was an amazing experience for me, considering I ran around in my backyard as a kid pretending I was Johnny Rambo. Working with Sly was one of the high points of shooting Vol. 2 for me.
"Who does he play? Well, I can’t reveal that quite yet… but we do see him interacting with Yondu in the teaser."

How cool is that!? I can't wait to find out who exactly Stallone is playing. If Gunn won't reveal it, then there's a chance it could be a cool character from the Marvel universe. Feel free to speculate on who you think he will be playing!

The SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Footage Screened at Comic-Con Was Perfection

During the Marvel Panel at Comic-Con, the studio screened some of the first footage from director Jon Watts' Spider-Man: Homecoming. The movie has only been in production for ten days, but they had already shot a good amount of footage involving some of Peter Parker's high school scenes. Of course, there were a few other shots of Tom Holland as Spider-Man in action.

We've heard a lot about how Watts was inspired by the films of John Hughes when developing the movie and that inspiration was exploding all over the screen when this footage screen in Hall H. It was just so wonderfully charming in every way and it's almost as if Hughes himself was actually directing the film.

The footage starts out with Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation,” against a montage of old high school yearbook photos. As we see the photos there's a caption that reads,  "All heroes have a beginning," and that's followed by old high school photos of Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, Steve Rogers, Stephen Strange, and the rest of the Avengers.

It then cuts to modern day, and Peter Parker is sitting in class watching video footage of himself on his computer fighting Giant Man from Civil War. He's obviously not paying attention in class, but when the teacher calls on him to ask a question, it's no surprise that he knows the answer.

We then get a series of clips from the film that are introduced with fun, colorful text. For example, "Women Studies" is a scene in which Peter and his friends are sitting at lunch just staring at girls for a long period of time. At one point Peter says, “Maybe we should stop staring before it gets creepy.” At that point the camera pans over to a high school girl character played by Zendaya, who has been watching Peter and his friend the whole time, and she says to them, “Too late, it’s already creepy.”

The there's another scene in which Peter is in chemistry class, and he's secretly mixing together some kind of substance in a drawer that looked like his webbing substance. Peter is yelled at by his teacher and he slams the drawer shut.

In another scene he’s in a study session with his classmates. Martin Starr is featured as a teacher in the scene, and Peter gets an emergency text and immediately tells his friends that he has to go. Zendaya's character curiously asks, "Go where, Peter?" At this point there's a montage of short of Spider-Man running, jumping, climbing up walls, and running on a giant semi truck. It then cuts back to Zendaya, who says, "I'm just kidding."

There's then a fun scene of Peter and a friend working on some kind of project, and they do this crazy long playfully cool handshake type thing.

The last shot we see features the Vulture quickly flying down a tunnel of sorts. It's a quick shot but the crowd of fans exploded in applause and cheers. So yes, Vulture is in fact the villain in Spider-Man: Homecoming

We also learn that Tony Revolori  (The Grand Budapest Hotel) is playing Flash Thompson in the film. The rest of the cast includes Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tyne Daly, and Bokeem Woodbine, with Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr.

I also have a brief synopsis for you to check out:

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Marvel Studios' Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging superhero in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The movie is set to be released on July 7th, 2017. After seeing this footage, there's no doubt in my mind that this will be the best and most entertaining Spider-Man movie ever made.

Watch the Full WONDER WOMAN Comic-Con Panel

Mick spoke a little too soon when he said that it was unanimous that Guardians of the Galaxy won Hall H. A few of us were really enamored with the Wonder Woman trailer, which you can check out here if you haven’t already. Go ahead and watch it, maybe a couple times even. I’ll wait…

I mean, look, it’s a trailer, and there have been plenty of good trailers for shitty movies, but also, it’s a really great trailer. It’s funny and warm in a really grim setting, and the action is among the most beautiful I have ever seen. The Golden Lasso looks badass, not hokey, and the Amazon warriors are exactly as fierce as you want them to be. Robin Wright charging into battle on her steed? Incredible. The visuals are nothing short of stunning, and with Gal Gadot at the center, the film is sure to have a strong emotional core as well. Patty Jenkins looks to have pulled off something amazing, and it makes me smile to think of the haters who said she couldn’t do it.

I’m pretty much gushing at this point, but I dressed up as Wonder Woman a lot when I was a kid. She was my first hero, and seeing her so fully realized onscreen is emotional for me, and I think the same is true for a lot of other girls and women, including the women who made the film. Director Patty Jenkins and stars Gal Gadot, Connie Nielsen, and Chris Pine were all in Hall H yesterday to talk about making the film, and you can watch the whole thing below.

The Game is Afoot in SHERLOCK Season 4 Comic-Con Trailer

The Sherlock panel is currently under way at San Diego Comic-Con, and a brand new trailer for the upcoming fourth season was just released. We'll have a more detailed write-up of the ins and outs of the panel on the site soon, but in the meantime, sit back and bask in the glory of new Sherlock footage for the first time since the Christmas/New Year's special.

It looks like things are taking a much darker turn this season, and Benedict Cumberbatch's face — which is usually sort of blank or smarmy as this character — seems to be much more expressive as he witnesses some kind of horror (or at least has a shocking realization or two).

Sherlock returns sometime in 2017.

Photos of Kurt Russell's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Costume and New Villain Taserface

Last night at Comic-Con's Marvel Studios panel, it was confirmed that Kurt Russell would indeed be playing Peter Quill's father in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but as an unexpected character: Ego the Living Planet. You can read about how it's possible for a planet to father a child in Joey's write-up, but now you can check out some video and photos of Russell's costume in the movie, courtesy of Agent M:

Also during the panel, some Ravagers came out in full costume and we got a good look at the new villain Taserface, played by actor Chris Sullivan. He took to Twitter to share a couple of new pictures of himself in full makeup:

In the comics, Taserface is a member of an alien race that mastered some technology that Tony Stark discarded into space, but it's unclear how much of that backstory will remain the same in the movie; as you know, Marvel Studios likes to use characters and comic plots as jumping off points and aren't beholden to slavishly recreating them on the big screen.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will arrive in theaters on May 5, 2017, and from the sound of it, the movie won Hall H yesterday. Impressive!

THE FLASH Comic-Con Trailer: Welcome to Flashpoint

We've been inundated with tons of trailers, posters, and clips from would-be blockbuster movies from Comic-Con, but let's not forget about the small screen. The CW dropped a new trailer for season 3 of the beloved TV adaptation of The Flash, and it looks like Flashpoint is finally upon us. By saving his mother's life, Barry Allen has inadvertently created a new timeline in which things are wildly different from what he knows...and not always in a good way. It reminds me a little of the Biff timeline in Back to the Future Part II. Check it out below, and let us know what you think.

The Flash races back to The CW on October 4, 2016.

Marco D’Alfonso has created another fun piece of fan art that radically mashes together Wolverine with V For Vendetta. The art is called "Weapon V," and it features Wolverine where the Guy Fawkes mask. The piece was created for The Line it is Drawn’s latest theme, which is in honor of the 20th anniversary of Amalgam. Artists were asked to amalgamate a DC character and a Marvel character, and this is what D’Alfonso came up with. I’ve also included a few other pieces in the collection that I liked.

Conan O'Brien has been hosting his show from San Diego Comic-Con for the past few days, and yesterday, he released a video of a bunch of unlikely actors auditioning for the role of Young Han Solo in the upcoming Star Wars spin-off (a part that eventually went to Alden Ehrenreich in real life). Personally, I'm a big fan of Jeff Goldblum's almost transcendental take on the character.

Joss Whedon Offers an Update on DR. HORRIBLE Sequel

When I first saw Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog, I was a freshman in high school, and I was in my film class. My film teacher was madly in love with this and everything about it. After watching it, I could understand why. The songs were brilliant, and the acting was amazing.

In Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog, Neil Patrick Harris plays a villain who falls in love with Felicia Day’s character, Penny, who actually starts dating Harris’s enemy — the hero of the story, Captain Hammer, played by Nathan Fillion.

This week at San Diego Comic-Con during the Dark Horse Comic’s Panel, Whedon offered a new update on the sequel, which will take place after the events of first series, where Dr. Horrible has taken over the world which doesn’t last very long to begin with. When asked about it he said:

"But yes, Jay-Mo [Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen] and I have been talking about when we need to sit down and do Doctor Horrible 2. But they just had a baby, and they are running a show that I'm executive figurehead of. We want to do that.
"It takes place after the events of the first. It's in the time when Doctor Horrible has basically taken over the world and is really happy. That lasts about three minutes,"

I, for one, really hope Whedon gets this sequel off the ground and into production soon. You can read some of our previous articles about the sequel here.

First Impressive Trailer for the X-Men Marvel Series LEGION

During the Marvel: Cup O'Joe panel at Comic-Con, the studio premiered the first trailer for their FX X-Men-inspired series Legion. The show actually looks like it could be pretty awesome! I really enjoyed what I saw in this trailer.

The series focuses on a character named David Haller, who has struggled with mental illness since he was a teenager. "Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real."

Haller is also known as Legion, and he is the son of Gabrielle Haller and Charles Xavier in the comics. He's a pretty powerful mutant who is one of the founders of X-Men. One of the things I like about the character most is that his mutant powers are controlled separately by his different personalities, which makes him incredibly unique.

Legion comes from Fargo creator Noah Hawley and stars Dan Stevens, Rachel Keller, Jean Smart, Aubrey Plaza, Jeremie Harris, Amber Midthunder, Katie Aselton, and Bill Irwin. The series will eventually premiere on FX, and I'll definitely be checking it out.

The Saint of Killers is Coming For Jesse in New PREACHER Trailer

I missed the Preacher panel at Comic-Con, but AMC has released a new trailer that showcases some of the highlights of the remaining two episodes in season one. After spending the whole season stuck in Annville, Texas, it looks like Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy are finally getting ready to set out to find God. One of the biggest problems with that, though, is that the Saint of Killers is hired to come after Jesse, and based on what we've seen from that old Cowboy already, he's somebody you definitely don't want on your tail.

The penultimate episode of Preacher season one airs tonight, and the show has already been renewed for a second season.

9 Clips From SUICIDE SQUAD Feature All Kinds of Crazy Footage Like Batman Chasing The Joker

Warner Bros. has released nine freakin’ clips from David Ayer’s upcoming DC action film Suicide Squad! If you don’t want to see any more of this movie before it comes out, then I suggest you don’t watch them, but if you're a curious person like me, you’re going to see a lot of incredibly fun footage, some of which includes Batman chasing down The Joker and Harley Quinn. I also went ahead and included some behind the scenes B-Roll footage that gives us a look at Harley Quinn’s Jester costume. It’s nice to know that even though Margot Robbie doesn’t wear it in the film, the filmmakers pay homage to it. Suicide Squad explodes into theaters on August 5th! Enjoy the footage!

Great TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Animated Short DON VS. RAPH

I’ve got an incredibly fun Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles short film for you to watch that was created by Invader Zim creator Jhonen Vasquez. The short features Donatello and Raphael fighting in a battle that escalates into ridiculousness.

We see the two characters battle in all sorts of ways that include playing video games, eating hot dogs, jump rope, and even a bake off. Of course, the Ninja Turtles wouldn’t be the Ninja Turtles without Shredder and his Foot Clan goons making an appearance.

This is a standalone short that isn’t connected to any other TMNT project that is currently in development, but it’s still a lot of fun, so enjoy!

Kevin Feige Discusses the Casting of Brie Larson as CAPTAIN MARVEL

Marvel’s epic Hall H Comic-Con panel ended with the official announcement of Brie Larson being cast as Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel. I think this is inspired casting and that Larson is going to be awesome in the role. She’s not only got the look, but she’s also got the talent.

A lot of actresses were up for the role, and it could have been anyone, but this being the first female-driven Marvel movie, they needed someone who could give us the best version of the character possible. When talking about casting Brie in the role during an interview with ComicBook.com Marvel Studios president Kevin Fiege said:

"The first casting choice as our own studio was Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. We set a bar that was very very high. Every time we bring somebody, whether or not it's a co-starring role, certainly if it's a starring role, we need to match that bar if it's even possible. With Carol Danvers, with our first title female super hero in Captain Marvel we could do no less than that."

Feige went on to talk about how lucky they are to have the talented Academy Award winner on board with the project:

"The fact that Brie, even after she won her big Academy Award, was interested in coming in and talking to us about the character, really fell in love with this character, really fell in love with the notion of being a symbol that can inspire everyone... We were very lucky. We were very lucky that she agreed to come on board and agreed to come out tonight at the end of the panel."

I can’t wait to see how Larson brings this character to life on the big screen and what Marvel has planned for her in the MCU. Captain Marvel is set for release July 6, 2018.

Incredible Behind-the-Scenes Featurette for KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS

Laika’s upcoming stop-motion film Kubo and the Two Strings looks freakin’ amazing! I love the footage that I’ve seen for this movie, and today we have a spectacular must-watch behind-the-scenes featurette that gives us a look at how this movie was made.

All of Laika’s films are stop-motion, and as most of you know, that is an insanely tedious process, but these guys take it to an epic level. The movie is being directed by Travis Knight, and it looks gorgeous. Now you can see the process of bringing that kind of greatness to life.

An epic action-adventure from acclaimed animation studio LAIKA. Clever, kindhearted Kubo (voiced by Art Parkinson of “Game of Thrones”) ekes out a humble living, telling stories to the people of his seaside town including Hosato (George Takei), Hashi (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa), and Kameyo (Brenda Vaccaro). But his relatively quiet existence is shattered when he accidentally summons a spirit from his past which storms down from the heavens to enforce an age-old vendetta. Now on the run, Kubo joins forces with Monkey (Charlize Theron) and Beetle (Matthew McConaughey), and sets out on a thrilling quest to save his family and solve the mystery of his fallen father, the greatest samurai warrior the world has ever known. With the help of his shamisen – a magical musical instrument – Kubo must battle gods and monsters, including the vengeful Moon King (Ralph Fiennes) and the evil twin Sisters (Rooney Mara), to unlock the secret of his legacy, reunite his family, and fulfill his heroic destiny.

The movie comes out on August 19th.

Joss Whedon Says He Would Return to Marvel to Direct a BLACK WIDOW Movie

A lot of Marvel fans out there would love to see the studio finally make a Black Widow movie. The concept of a film has been discussed at the studio, and one day it might actually happen. If it did, Avengers director Joss Whedon said that he would return to Marvel to direct it!

During an interview with IGN, he talked about Black Widow and why film involving her would be fun to do:

"I think that character really is very interesting and very earthbound, so it’s the kind of action that I got to do less of with somebody like Thor or The Vision.
"When you get into your ‘Superman’ territory it’s harder to maintain the gritty action that the Russo brothers do so brilliantly and she’s got that kind of thing and [you can] really do a spy thriller. Like really do a good, paranoid, ‘John le Carré on crack’ sort of thing. That would be really fun."

It would be so cool to see a Black Widow film. Some people don't know how it could work, but I think Whedon could give us something spectacular. When talking about Scarlett Johansson and what it's like working with her, he said:

"Scarlett Johansson is just delightful. She works really hard but she just spends most of her time cracking me up, so it would be a fun shoot."

Will this movie ever happen? Kevin Feige previously said that it was being considered, so there is a chance it could get made. If Marvel does move forward with it, they should definitely get Whedon on board!

James Gunn Discusses the Reveal of Kurt Russell's Ego in GUARDIANS VOL. 2

Over the weekend at Comic-Con James Gunn showed off some footage from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 revealing that Kurt Russell will be playing Ego the Living Planet and that he is Star-Lord's father. It was quite an unexpected but pleasant surprise and something only Gunn would be able to get away with. It was definitely an interesting character choice. While talking about the character on Facebook he said:

"Yeah, his dad is a planet. Sort of. It will all be explained in the film," Gunn started. "But to me, this is the absolute center of Vol. 2, and one of the reasons I’ve been so excited about it."

It's explained that his dad took on a human form to go to earth to experience what it was like to be a human. During an interview with ComicBook.com, Gunn talked about the reveal of Peter's father saying that they wanted to control how it was handled. He explained:

"Quite frankly, we knew that people were going to figure it out eventually. People were gonna start testing the movie, we're gonna start testing trailers, and it this point I thought it was better that we took the reigns in our own hands and revealed Ego to the public. I also think it sends a real important message. This movie isn't about, 'Oh my god, you've gotta go and find out who Peter Quills dad is!' It really is about the story and the relationship that these characters have. We find out about Peter's father pretty close to the beginning of the film so we're not giving some big spoiler away. I think it really isn't about this big surprise, it really is about the story and the emotions that transpire between Peter Quill, his adoptive father Yondu, and his real father Ego who happens to be a Living Planet."

The director also spoke about keeping this sequel fresh and different:

"The first movie, we set out to create a movie that wasn't what people expected that took them to new places that was both much funnier, much more colorful than they thought it was going to be. I think this movie's going to be the same way. I think we're giving them things that they don't expect and I think we take twists and turns and the stories, I don't think you're going to expect. It starts with today in revealing this is about Baby Groot and this is about Ego the Living Planet being Quill's father. It's a very unique situation to start with."

After seeing the footage from this movie at Comic-Con, I couldn't be more excited to see how the story plays out, but it looks like Gunn will once again deliver a movie that will blow our minds! In case you missed the photos of Ego's costume in the film, make sure you click here to check them out!

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes out on August 5th, 2017!

Kentucky Man Arrested After He Pulls Gun On Kid Kicking His Seat

A man in Paducah, Kentucky is behind bars after pulling a gun on a kid who was kicking his seat. Deadline reports the man was angry that another man's son was kicking his seat during a screening of Star Trek: Beyond. The two men began to fight, and when the boy's father got the upper hand the man pulled a gun on the family. People fled, and the man was apprehended by employees and arrested by the police.

This is blowing my mind as I lived in Paducah, Kentucky and went to this exact theater (it was the only theater minus an arthouse one) all the time when I lived there! It's crazy because I remember having a conversation with my wife after the Aurora shootings about how nothing like that would ever happen in the small town of Paducah, Kentucky, and here we are today.

Glad to hear no one was injured and that the man was arrested by the authorities.

Tara Reid's Fate Revealed in Trailer for SHARKNADO 4: THE FOURTH AWAKENS

It was only a matter of time before Syfy ruined a good thing I suppose. After the fluke success of Sharknado, I can only think it's mandatory that you do a sequel. After that it should have been done, and yes, I know it's supposed to be tongue in cheek, but now it's at the point where it's tongue in cheek with the tongue firmly pressed against the cheek and making the blowjob gesture.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is this series went from, "Oh, we found something cool," to "We're going to keep doing it until all of you stop watching." That's fine. It's their network I suppose. One cool thing about this one is that fans got to vote on what happens to Tara Reid in the upcoming film and if she will live or die. We learn exactly what happens in the trailer below.
