I’ve got a series of beautifully awesome art inspired by Pokémon GO for you to check out. Artist Dane Cozens sacrificed a good amount of Pokemon GO playing time to create this art for the fans to enjoy. Each poster features the final evolutions of the original first-generation starter Pokémon, and they perfectly capture the imagination of what it’s like to play this game.

WONDER WOMAN Shines in World Premiere Trailer From Comic-Con

The Warner Bros. panel just got underway in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con, and the studio released their first full reveal of footage for Patty Jenkins' upcoming solo Wonder Woman movie.

It's no secret that I've been worried about DC's cinematic output ever since BvS, but this is a fantastic trailer that looks like a totally (and tonally) different film. The action is top notch, Wonder Woman looks like she kicks some serious ass, and the production design is outstanding. I can't wait to see how all of this comes together in the full movie and to see if the script lives up to the potential this movie has at this moment.

Wonder Woman hits theaters on June 2, 2017.

Watch: JUSTICE LEAGUE Lightens Up in Footage From Comic-Con

The Warner Bros. panel is in full swing in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con, and the studio has released their first reveal of footage for Zack Snyder's upcoming Justice League movie.

Everyone I've seen online has been freaking out about Ezra Miller's The Flash, but I have to admit, I thought that scene with him and Bruce Wayne was the worst part of this trailer. Maybe I just have a higher standard of what The Flash should be, but from this little sneak peek, Miller doesn't seem like the right fit for the character of Barry Allen to me. The visual effects for when he speeds around look pretty sweet, though.

I LOVE that shot of Aquaman getting engulfed by the wave. After thinking that might be one of the lamest solo movies, I'm now really looking forward to seeing Jason Momoa in action here and then seeing what James Wan does with his solo movie after that.

What do you think about this? Let's hear your favorite and least favorite aspects below.

Justice League hits theaters on November 17, 2017.

Watch: The Biggest Kong Ever is Revealed in KONG: SKULL ISLAND Comic-Con Trailer

The Warner Bros. panel is underway in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con, and the studio released some new footage for Jordan Vogt-Roberts' upcoming Kong: Skull Island

There are tons of Apocalypse Now comparisons to be made here, and Vogt-Roberts really leans into the fact that this is a '70s war movie, not just some romp through the jungle. The cinematography is exciting, and Brie Larson and Tom Hiddleston look like they fit well in this world, not to mention all of the badass shots of the massive, hulking Kong that are teased around the edges of the frame here (capped off by that cool final reveal). The only downside for me was Samuel L. Jackson's speech near the end — I love the guy, but his speech patterns are starting to get really repetitive.

What do you think?

The BLAIR WITCH and 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE Switcheroos Show Studios How to Generate Genuine Excitement

Last night, Lionsgate invited a handful of people at Comic-Con to see a screening of an upcoming movie called The Woods. But as I'm sure you've heard by now, Adam Wingard's The Woods is actually called Blair Witch, a secret sequel that was so secret, even some of the people working on the movie and Lionsgate employees didn't know they were making it. (Read all about how it was made in this exhaustive EW profile.) The studio created posters and trailers marketing a movie called The Woods, and then snuck the reveal during a time that would create the most buzz. The best part? Fans only have to wait a few weeks to see it, because the film comes out this September.

This is a more extreme version of what Paramount and Bad Robot did with Dan Trachtenberg's 10 Cloverfield Lane earlier this year. That movie was known to movie press as Valencia (or The Cellar) when it was in production, and it was only revealed that it was loosely connected to the Cloverfield universe when the studio retitled it a few weeks before it came out.

More than ever, fans are rabidly consuming as much as possible about movies before they see them. We obviously contribute to that because we love writing about pop culture, but I'll admit that even with something like Suicide Squad — a movie I'm looking forward to — it gets a little tiring watching trailer after trailer, and I can't help but feel like I've already seen most of the movie at this point. WB just released another trailer at Comic-Con earlier today, and it's the second consecutive year the studio has done that. We've been talking about this movie for a long time, tracking every development, and most of the trailers have been great...but there's something to be said for the pure surprise and genuine excitement that a big surprise reveal can have on the movie landscape. When a movie gets all the way through production and this close to release without the surprise leaking out in a big way, it makes it feel like anything's possible. I think to some degree it automatically lends those movies a sense of goodwill, too — people want them to be good so they live up to the hype.

I'm not advocating that every studio start doing this with every movie, because obviously that would be ridiculous and impractical. But I'd love to see this trend continue on a smaller scale, because it's always heartening to see how fans can reignite excitement for something when they had no clue it was coming. The only thing studios need to beware of is making sure they have a finger on the pulse of what people will actually like — I can see an embarrassing situation in which one of them reveals a certain movie isn't what we think and it's actually, like, a stealth Jaws sequel or something like that, and everyone groans because they aren't interested.

I realize that's easier said than done, but here's hoping they keep trying to surprising us.

Here's the brand new trailer for Star Trek: Discovery, the newly-named TV series from Bryan Fuller that will air on CBS All Access next year. The trailer debuted during the show's panel at San Diego Comic-Con, and now it's online for everyone to see. Still no casting news, but we do know the name and designation of the new Starship, and Fuller confirmed that the series' story will be told like a novel instead of the traditionally episodic structure (planet of the week, etc). Check it out below, and let us know what you think.

Marvel Studios is in the middle of its big Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con right now, but while rival WB released all of their footage online for fans after debuting it in Hall H, I've heard Marvel won't be releasing all of theirs. While we wait to see what they decide is worthy enough to drop online, check out these new logos. Here's one for Ryan Coogler's Black Panther, and it was also revealed on that panel that The Walking Dead star Danai Gurira has been cast as Okoye, Lupita Nyong'o will play Nakia, and Michael B. Jordan will be Erik Killmonger:

Get Another Psychedelic Look at DOCTOR STRANGE in This Brand New Comic-Con Trailer

We knew director Scott Derrickson was going to bring Marvel's Doctor Strange to San Diego Comic-Con this year, but we weren't sure exactly what he'd bring with him to show off to the rabid fans in Hall H. Now we know: it's a new trailer that doubles down on the psychedelic visual style we saw hints of in the previous trailers. Benedict Cumberbatch continues to look like the perfect cinematic embodiment of the Sorcerer Supreme, and this new trailer shows off a lot more of his story and the supporting players who will be involved. Check it out below and let us know what you think.

Brie Larson Confirmed to Play CAPTAIN MARVEL in Marvel Studios' First Female-Led Superhero Film

After wowing Comic-Con's Hall H crowd (and audiences at home) earlier today with the trailer for Kong: Skull Island, Oscar winner Brie Larson took the stage and confirmed that she'll be playing Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel, Marvel Studios' first female-led superhero movie.

The actress was in talks for the role about a month ago, and those discussions must have gone well, because we now know who will be taking flight as the new heroine. I'm sort of surprised we didn't get a director announcement also, but hey, I'll take what I can get.

Captain Marvel hits theaters on July 6, 2018. Here's the new logo:

I heard the Comic-Con footage for Spider-Man: Homecoming was terrific, but Marvel hasn't released that online, and I'm not sure they ever will. If they do, obviously we'll post it as soon as possible, but in the meantime, here's something you can dig your teeth into: a piece of concept art from the new movie that features Tom Holland's Spider-Man doing aerial battle with Michael Keaton's (?) Here's some brand new concept art for Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: Breakout!, the upcoming Marvel-themed ride that will replace Disneyland's Tower of Terror. We wrote about this back in May, but tonight the ride was confirmed on the Hall H stage at San Diego Comic-Con during Marvel Studios' presentation.

Here's the relevant info about the new ride, straight from the official press release:

Debuting in summer 2017, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! will take Disney California Adventure park guests through the fortress-like museum of the mysterious Collector, who is keeping his newest acquisitions, the Guardians of the Galaxy, as prisoners. Guests will board a gantry lift which launches them into a daring adventure as they join Rocket Raccoon in an attempt to set free his fellow Guardians. The new attraction will transform the structure currently housing The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ into an epic new adventure, enhancing the breathtaking free fall sensation with new visual and audio effects to create a variety of ride experiences. Guests will experience multiple, random and unique ride profiles in which the rise and fall of the gantry lift rocks to the beat of music inspired by the film’s popular soundtrack.

Wolverine Goes Berserker Rage Wild in Art by Gabriele Dell’Otto

I come across a ton of Wolverine art while I surf the web, and every once in awhile I come across a piece that wows me. This piece from artist Gabriele Dell’Otto did just that. There’s just so much energy and power portrayed in this piece. Wolverine is in full-on berserker mode. He’s been torn up pretty bad in the image, and he’s far beyond being pissed off. The look on his face is just utter insanity and that’s the main thing that drew my attention to the art. The anger, rage, and hatred just explodes in this art, and I was compelled to share it.

kurt-russell-confirmed-as-star-lords-dad-ego-in-guardians-of-the-galaxy-vol-2

Earlier this year a crazy rumor hit the internet that Ego the Living Planet would be the villain in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. A lot of people brushed that rumor off because it was just so insane. Well, part of that rumor turned out to be true! During Marvel insanely awesome Comic-Con panel yesterday it was confirmed that Kurt Russell is playing Ego and that he is Star-Lord's dad! How cool is that!?

We even got to see our first footage of him in the trailer that was screened for fans at the event! He showed up near the end of the trailer as he emerged from an oval shaped ship and introduced to himself to Star-Lord as Ego, his father. Ego says, “After all these years, I’ve found you," to which Star-Lord responds, “Who the hell are you?” Ego hit him back with, “I figured my rugged good looks would make that obvious. My name’s Ego and I’m your dad, Peter.”

Ego went on to explain to Peter that he's not human and that he created a human body for himself. “I created what I imagined biological life would be like, down to the most minute detail,” he said. He came to Earth to experience what it was like to be human.

Drax hilariously asked him, "Did you make a penis?" Peter and his team of Guardians react with annoyance, and Star-Lord says that he doesn’t need to hear about how he was conceived. But of course Drax pushes for the answer, and Ego happily obliges with, “Yes, Drax, I’ve got a penis.” Then Drax thanks him.

Kurt Russell looks freakin' awesome in the role, and fans are going to go crazy when they see him as Ego for the first time. The crowd in Hall H went apeshit.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes out May 5th, 2017.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 Footage Won Hall H

$
0
0

I think it's unanimous amongst the GeekTyrant Hall H team, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was the best footage we saw all day. That's saying a lot when we saw Wonder Woman, Justice League, Thor: Ragnarok, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Doctor Strange ALL IN ONE AFTERNOON!

So let's start with the footage, which unfortunately isn't online yet. I'll try to do justice with my description though...

The scene opens with Rocket and Yondu in a jail cell while the Ravagers wonder what to do with them. A soldier asks what they do with the other prisoner and if he can squish him, the guard declares he's wayyyy too cute to be destroyed. We then see the prisoner hold up a birdcage which has Baby Groot looking like an infant with well-developed legs. Groot manages to escape his cage, and we go through a sequence of Yondu and Rocket trying to explain to Groot what "prototype" they need and him bringing things that are wrong beyond belief.

Finally, they get the right thing and start blaring "Come a Little Bit Closer" by Jay and the Americans, and Yondu starts obliterating people with his upgraded whistling arrow and a bitching red metal mohawk on his head. It's literally raining enemies getting taken out by the arrow as all three walk out. Groot spots a prisoner that was mean to him and goes after him in an adorable way and beats the hell out of him.

That's the end of the first clip. The cast comes out, and it is revealed that Yondu is now officially a part of the team in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, we also get the introduction to Mantis in addition to the original cast returning. Oh yeah and KURT RUSSELL IS CONFIRMED AS STAR-LORD'S DAD. Don't even try to say that's a spoiler as it's going to be in the trailer when you see it, so just accept it. After some banter that really didn't reveal anything we're into the actual trailer which looks like this...

The Guardians are kicking ass and taking names. They're now known throughout the galaxy as protectors and are living the good life. We see a lot of ass kicking quick shots, and then get to the main focus of the story. Star-Lord meets his dad (Kurt Russell) and has his mind blown wide open. Drax makes reference to Kurt Russell's penis, and it's pretty hilarious.

The second trailer is tough to break down because it's entirely out of sequence and essentially just a bunch of action sequences. What you need to take away from all this is that the movie is everything you could want and more. If you like the first one, this one is like the first on steroids with an adorable baby Groot. I can't get past how cute Groot is!

So there's my description... I know it's shitty, but trust me when I say this footage won Comic-Con for the day. There wasn't a person not on their feet at the end! Let's hope you guys get to see this trailer soon!

Video Rant Explains Why Video Game Movies Suck

$
0
0

I believe that video game films are about to take a turn for the better. Warcraft was awesome, Assassin’s Creed looks great, and we’ve got a slew of other films in various stages of development like Splinter Cell, Tomb Raider, and more. Video games in the past, though, haven’t done very well. There’s a long history of shitty video games, and thanks to a new video rant from The Film Guy, we have an explanation as to why that is the case. One of the main points made in the video is that video games are more driven by the gameplay and that the story, if there is even a story, is used just as a tool to keep the player moving through the game. With films the story is the main drive, and a lot of the time that story isn’t strong enough for a film. Check out the video below and let us know what you think about his opinion on the matter.
