Mermaids Added to the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN Ride

$

Thanks to the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, the Disney theme park rides have been changed to not only include Jack Sparrow, but now they've added some Mermaids into the mix. The mythical sea creatures played a role in the last film, Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides, and they were pretty terrifying.

As of right now, the mermaids are only a part of the Walt Disney World Florida attraction, but I imagine they'll make their way down to the Anaheim, CA park soon. "You'll see them appear underwater on both sides of your boat as a song from the "Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides" movie plays. Then look for the mermaid skeleton on the beach." Check out the video below to see the mermaids on the ride.

Do you like that Disney is updating the rides to fit in with the movies?

David Oyelowo Set to Play Sugar Ray Robinson

David Oyelowo just landed himself an awesome role, playing Sugar Ray Robinson in a new biopic being developed by Moneyball producer Rachael Horovitz. The movie is based on the Wil Haygood biography Sweet Thunder: The Life And Times Of Sugar Ray Robinson. Haygood also wrote a draft of the screenplay.

Oyelowo has had roles in several movies over the years such as Lincoln, The Paperboy, Red Tails, The Help, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Jack Reacher and more. This would definitely be his biggest role to date, and he seems like he's the perfect fit for it.

Sugar Ray Robinson was an American professional boxer. Frequently cited as the greatest boxer of all time, Robinson's performances in the welterweight and middleweight divisions prompted sportswriters to create "pound for pound" rankings, where they compared fighters regardless of weight.

As of right now, there's no director attached. I'm a big boxing history buff, and I think this is going to make for a great film. What do you think of Oyelowo playing Sugar Ray?

Here's a description of the book that the film will be based off of:

From the author of the critically acclaimed In Black and WhiteThe Life of Sammy Davis, Jr., comes another illuminating socio-historical narrative of the twentieth century, this one spun around one of the most iconic figures of the fight game, Sugar Ray Robinson.

Continuing to set himself apart as one of our canniest cultural historians, Wil Haygood grounds the spectacular story of Robinson's rise to greatness within the context of the fighter's life and times. Born Walker Smith, Jr., in 1921, Robinson had an early childhood marked by the seething racial tensions and explosive race riots that infected the Midwest throughout the twenties and thirties. After his mother moved him and his sisters to the relative safety of Harlem, he came of age in the vibrant post-Renaissance years. It was there that—encouraged to box by his mother, who wanted him off the streets—he soon became a rising star, cutting an electrifying, glamorous figure, riding around town in his famous pink Cadillac. Beyond the celebrity, though, Robinson would emerge as a powerful, often controversial black symbol in a rapidly changing America. Haygood also weaves in the stories of Langston Hughes, Lena Horne, and Miles Davis, whose lives not only intersected with Robinson's but also contribute richly to the scope and soul of the book.

From Robinson's gruesome six-bout war with Jake "Raging Bull" LaMotta and his lethal meeting with Jimmy Doyle to his Harlem nightclub years and thwarted show-biz dreams, Haygood brings the champion's story, in the ring and out, powerfully to life against a vividly painted backdrop of the world he captivated.

INSURRECTION Comic Book Being Adapted by Paramount Pictures

Paramount Pictures has landed the rights to the Boom! Studios comic book property Insurrection. Producers Michael De Luca and Matt Tolmach will be bring the story to life on the big screen. The comic's creator, Blake Masters, has also been brought on board to write the script.

The movie is described as being a sci-fi Spartacus. The story is set in "a future where corporations are more powerful than governments and command their own armies. The armies consist of clones who, for decades have been treated like a subclass. That all changes when one man stands up and leads a revolution that has vast repercussions."

I've never read the comic, but it seems like one of those stories that could go either way when being adapted into a movie. It all depends on the talent they bring on board. Have you read the comic, and do you think it will make for a solid sci-fi film?

Frank Grillo to Play Crossbones in CAPTAIN AMERICA 2?

It looks like there's a chance that The Grey and Warrior actor Frank Grillo could end up playing the villain Crossbones in Captain America: The Winter Solider. The actor took to twitter after he had a meeting with Marvel saying,

See Ya LA. It was a a good trip. Marvel was a lot of fun. Be cool if it works out. #CaptainAmerica.

The actor's tweet came shortly after a rumor hit Twitter from comedy talk radio personality Matthew Aaron to @BRIANMBENDIS revealing that Grillo has screen-tested for Marvel and "is THIS CLOSE to getting the role of Crossbones in the Marvel movies."

Put the two tweets together and we have the news that Grillo is very close to landing the role of Crossbones in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Crossbones a.k.a. Brock Rumlow, is an assassin and mercenary who has crossed paths with other villains such as Red Skull, Baron Zemo, and Hydra. Like Black Widow, he doesn't have any super powers, he just knows how to kick ass! In the comics, Crossbones carried out the assassination of Steve Rogers. I guess we'll find out soon enough the role that this character will play in the movie.

What do you think about the possibility of Grillo being cast in the movie? How big of a role do you think the villain will play in it?

Craig Gillespie Directing Baseball Movie MILLION DOLLAR ARM

Director Craig Gillespie has a pretty mixed track record behind the camera, but he's about to head to the big leagues with Mad Men star Jon Hamm.

Variety reports that Gillespie is in negotiations to direct Million Dollar Arm, a true story written by Win Win helmer Tom McCarthy that stars Hamm as agent J.B. Bernstein, a man who set up an elaborate reality show in India in order to audition 40,000 cricket players to see if any of them had what it took to become MLB stars. (He ended up converting players Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel.)

Bernstein was also responsible for teaching his new talent the rules of baseball as well as inducting them into American culture. So basically this whole project sounds like a reverse Mr. Baseball scenario. I'm sure Hamm will be fine as the agent, but is Gillespie the right person to tell this story? He directed the critically acclaimed Lars and the Real Girl and the decently-received Fright Night remake, but he also helmed the disastrous Mr. Woodcock, so it's tough to tell what kind of tone to expect from a guy with such an eclectic resume.

What do you think? Do you think Gillespie is the right person for the gig?

"You silver tongued devil, you."

This movie looks so damn good! Here's another awesome international trailer for Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained and it's loaded with lots of new footage! The movie opens up on Christmas, and I have a feeling it's going to do very well during awards season. It will be interesting to see who ends up getting best actor nominations because Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz all look like they give top notch performances. I have no doubt that this movie is going to be very entertaining. Watch the latest trailer!

Here's the synopsis:

Set in the South two years before the Civil War, "Django Unchained" stars Academy Award®-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award®-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.

Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.

Django and Schultz’s search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award®-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of “Candyland,” an infamous plantation where slaves are groomed by trainer Ace Woody to battle each other for sport. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award®-nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie's trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival...

This is probably one of the funnest movie marketing campaigns I've seen. It's one of those things I wish would have happened to me. Skyfall and Coke Zero teamed up to challenge unsuspecting train passengers for a chance to win exclusive tickets to Skyfall.

To win the tickets people were sent on a little mission that they had to complete in 70 seconds. Here's a video featuring several of these people trying to pull off their best 007 moves in attempt to win their tickets.

Bruce Campbell showed up at New York Comic Con this year with the soul purpose of letting fans know that the new Evil Dead remake is going to scare the shit out of you, and that it's going to be a great horror movie. Having seen some footage from the movie, it's hard not to believe what he's saying! The movie looks hellishly insane!

While at the convention Campbell continued to talk about the film, and in this interview with  he does a great job making you feel good about this classic horror flick being remade. I'm already excited for the movie, I think it looks incredible. But for those of you still not sold on the idea of Evil Dead being remade, let Campbell talk you into it.

James Cameron set to Direct THE INFORMATIONIST after AVATAR

$

James Cameron has lined up his next film project, that he'll start working on as soon as he's finished with his next two Avatar movies. His production Company Lightstorm Entertainment has acquired the film rights to a novel written by Taylor Stevens called The Informationist, and it will be developed over at 20th Century Fox.

The book was published back in 2011, and the story "centers on Vanessa "Michael" Munroe, an information specialist, whose work is in-demand by corporations, heads of state, private clients, and anyone else who can pay for her unique brand of expertise. When a Texas oil billionaire hires her to find his daughter who vanished in Africa four years ago, Munroe finds herself back in the lands of her childhood. Betrayed, cut off from civilization, and left for dead, she must come face-to-face with the past that she's tried for so long to forget."

This seems like a very different film project for Cameron to take on. I imagine this means Battle Angel is going to be delayed even longer.  Cameron explained why he's interested in taking this story on,

Taylor Stevens' Vanessa Michael Munroe is an intriguing and compelling heroine with an agile mind and a thirst for adventure. Equally fascinating for me is her emotional life and her unexpected love story. I'm looking forward to bringing Vanessa and her world to the big screen.

Producer Jon Landau added:

This was an opportunity to continue our relationship with Fox and Jim Gianopulos beyond the ‘Avatar’ films. We were drawn to this book because of the terrific, compelling narrative and the character, who typifies the strong female protagonists that have inhabited Jim’s work – in this case Vanessa Munroe is essentially a mix of Lisbeth Salander and Jason Bourne.

The producers are expected to hire a writer to adapt the novel shortly. What do you think about this new film Cameron wants to make?

Here's some interesting information of the author of the book, which sounds like it could make a good movie on it's own.

Author Taylor Stevens has a background every bit as intriguing as her heroine’s. Born in New York State, and into the Children of God, an apocalyptic religious cult spun from the Jesus Movement of the '60s, Stevens was raised in communes across the globe. Separated from her family at age twelve and denied an education beyond sixth grade, she lived on three continents and in a dozen countries before reaching fourteen. In place of schooling, the majority of her adolescence was spent begging on city streets at the behest of cult leaders, or as a worker bee child, caring for the many younger commune children, washing laundry and cooking meals for hundreds at a time. In her twenties, Stevens broke free in order to follow hope and a vague idea of what possibilities lay beyond. She now lives in Texas, and juggles full-time writing with full-time motherhood.

Renner and Moore Join Pacino for Lennon Inspired Drama IMAGINE

$

It's been about a year since it was first announced that Tangled and Crazy Stupid Love scribe Dan Fogelman would make his directorial debut with Imagine, Warner Bros' John Lennon infused family drama that he penned.

Al Pacino signed on last year to play a Bruce Springsteen-type rocker who discovers a long-unopened letter addressed to him from John Lennon; after reading it, he’s shocked to learn that he actually fathered a son and decides to track him down.

Fogelman was originally looking to reteam with his Crazy Stupid Love star, Steve Carell, who had to drop out of the role of the long lost son. Now Variety reports that Jeremy Renner has replaced him. There's only about a decade age difference between the two actors, so it's nothing that can't be tweaked in the script. Julianne Moore has also taken a lead role in the film.

I'm still not sold on Pacino as an aging rocker. As transformative of an actor as he can be, I feel like I've just been watching Pacino as Pacino for the past decade -- which hasn't always been a bad thing.

I'll gladly welcome any Beatles-inspired films out there, because I think we'll still have to patiently wait for a proper John Lennon post-Beatles biopic. There's no word on how much of Lennon's music will be used in the film, but I imagine (no pun intended) that it will be nicely laced with the musician's timeless tunes -- Yoko Ono seems pretty open, having given permission for Sam Taylor-Wood to use Lennon's track "Mother" in Nowhere Boy, the Lennon bio-pic which chronicled his pre-Beatle days.

Warner Bros aims to begin shooting Imagine in late April or early May.

Sushi Chefs Battle Sea Monsters in MONSTER ROLL Short

In a world where the seas are over fished, Sushi Chefs must band together to fight off monstrous sea creatures who have come out of the deep sea in search of food. Well, it makes sense to me. This incredibly fun short film, Monster Roll, was directed by Dan Blank. He and his cohorts couldn't resist making this proof-of-concept for the fishy premise, "It's a crazy idea, but one we just really wanted to see made. So, we made it." Their hope is to get it made into a feature.

The effects aren't quite there yet but I love the whole vibe they're going for. I especially like the opening and closing narration which gives a classic martial arts epic feel to it -- explaining the mythology that in ancient Japan, man made a pact with the sea to "kill only what they eat."

Do you think this would make for a good feature?

THOR: THE DARK WORLD and IRON MAN 3 Spoiler Story Details

$

Looking for some big spoiler plot details for Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 3? If not, I wouldn't read ahead if I were you. If you are, then by all means enjoy the spoilers! I did.

The following details come from actor and Marvel Employee Andrew Lawden, who showed up on the Bombad Radio Podcast and ended up dropping some very fun, spoilerish information on the two movies.

Let's start off with Thor: The Dark World, because these are all new details...

Thor becomes reunited with Jane who becomes possessed by a Dark Spirit, which is connected with the Dark Elves; a race the Asgardians have fallen out with many years beforehand [...] The Dark Elves attack Asgard, and they take a huge hit. So Thor has to rebuild Asgard by putting together an army to go and take the battle to the Dark Elves and defeat them. But the only way he can do this is – he needs to cross over to the Dark World, and the only person who has access to the dark side of Asgard is his old brother Loki, who at the beginning of the film is locked up in prison.

So what happens is Thor basically has to negotiate this truce with Loki, and he goes on this great trek with Jane, all three of them. They go to this far side of Asgard, which is being shot in Iceland, where they train and assemble an army to go and attack the Dark Elves’ world.

Sounds pretty awesome, right? I like that Thor and Loki will actually be fighting side by side in this one, and not against each other. Now do you want an even bigger SPOILER? if so keep reading...

But the exclusive twist…is that one of the things that happens during the Asgardian attack is that Thor’s mother gets killed. So it becomes like a vengeance thing. And they were keeping very tight-lipped about what actually happens with Loki, you don’t know whether he redeems himself or he’s still the bad egg.

I hope he redems himself, that would actually be very cool.

Now on to some Iron Man 3 greatness! We've actually posted this Spoiler before but seeing it again from a different source basically confirms that it's going to happen, and I can't freakin' wait!

Well, there’s going to be a big fight sequence with The Mandarin, who’s the main villain, which will involve none other than forty different iron man suits. There’s an amazing rescue where The Mandarin basically wants to bring down the American government and kill the President, and he launches an attack on Air Force One. All of them – the President and his men and staff – get sucked out of the plane, and Iron Man rescues them by forming this amazing human chain in the sky.

There’s some pretty spectacular stuff that goes on. There’s an amazing sequence where he has this rooftop house that he builds to store all his Iron Man suits, and it gets attacked by The Mandarin and these gunships [...] I was shocked to discover there are like forty Iron Man suits written into this feature in various ways…so that’s going to be pretty impressive. But apparently he needs this Iron Man army to go up against The Mandarin’s forces.

Marvel is doing some awesome stuff with their films, and I'm excited for all the movies that have been announced, and all of the movies that have yet to be announced. The studio has proven that they can and will give us the Marvel movies we want to see, and that they will do them right.

Iron Man 3 hits theaters on May 3rd, 2013, while Thor: The Dark World arrives on November 8th, 2013.

What do you think of the new story details revealed?!

Denny's HOBBIT Inspired Menu - Saddest Marketing Campaign Ever

OK, this is the most ridiculous movie tie-in marketing campaign I think I've ever seen. The marketing team for The Hobbit has teamed up with Denny's to bring us a Hobbit-themed menu, it's so ridiculously funny I just can't see how anyone can take it seriously.

Next time you go to Denny's it looks like you'll have the option of ordering food with names such as the 'Hobbit Hole Breakfast,' 'Gandalf's Gobble Melt', Frodo's Pot Roast Skillet', 'Shire Sausage,' and 'Seed Cake French Toast'.

For those of you who eat at Denny's you'll be able to collect up to 12 Hobbit playing cards and find additional content through QR codes on placemats in the restaurants. I'm not a big fan of Denny's so I'm just going to pass on all this marketing stupidity.

Trailer for Horrendous Looking Fantasy Film EMPIRES OF THE DEEP

$
0
0

A couple of years ago we shared some photos from the set of a crazy looking fantasy film called Empires of the Deep. We've had nothing to report on the movie between then and now, with the first trailer for it popping up online. It looked like it had potential early on, but unfortunately, it looks absolutes terrible in every way you can imagine.

The 3D movie had a budget of around $130 million, and apparently it had a lot of issues during production. Everything that could have gone wrong, did. It was "the dream project of Chinese real estate tycoon Jon Jiang, who wrote the script himself and partially financed with his own money, the film was originally announced with Monica Bellucci as the star, Catwoman director Pitof helming and Empire Strikes Back director Irvin Kershner on board as a producer. All three left the project every bit as quickly as they signed up." The movie ended up being finished by director Michael French (Heart of a Dragon), and stars Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace, Oblivion), Jea Choe, Sam Voutas, Alec Su, Jean-Michel Casanova, William Shriver and Maxx Maulion

The story includes elements of fantasy such as magic and demons, with spectacular battles and an epic story transcending a thousand years. It will will introduce audiences to an entirely brand-new style of huge action set-pieces, a host of fantastical creatures and amazing underwater fight scenes. It will combine mystery and intrigue with incredible sea battles.

Unfortunately, the film looks like a piece of crap. What a waste of time and money. The SyFy original movies look better than this thing! This is what happens when you get a bunch of people together to make a movie that have no idea what they are doing. Check out the trailer and tell us what you think. I can't believe they spent that much money on this turd. You know you have a bad product when the director of Catwoman walks away from it.

Here are some details on the film followed by the set pics:

Mermaid legends have existed all over the world for thousands of years, attracting people from all over the world. Many questions remain unanswered regarding this bewitching and enigmatic race. Why do mermaids tempt humans with their seductive songs? What secrets lie hidden deep within their legends? Empires of the Deep will provide the answers in spectacular style.

Empires of the Deep is a unique undersea fantasy adventure, which uses the latest in CGI to shape a new and exciting underwater world. This world is inhabited by mermaids, giants, an evil mage and dozens of different undersea kingdoms and races: each with their own cultural traits. The giants are more powerful than the mysterious mermaids but both must ally together to battle an ancient evil

Our protagonist is a young man with a hidden power. After a local temple is ghosted away overnight, he begins his search and encounters the mysterious mermaid Aka * their meeting triggers an unforgettable series of events which shake the mermaid world to its very foundations.

The movie explores the mysterious and apparently bizarre characteristics of mermaids, depicting their danger as welI as their exquisite beauty; and how their love can be both bewitching and deadly.

Other themes explored by Empires of the Deep include the battle between good and evil and one man’s struggle against his own destiny.
