Today's piece of Halloween Geek Art comes to us from Bruce Timm, and it features a horde of Frankenstein zombies attacking some poor girl who's obviously at the wrong place at the wrong time. This piece does a great job of channeling the retro pulp style of 1950s horror comics and B-Monster movies.

If you know of any cool Halloween Geek Art we can share with our readers please send it to us through our Contact section!

X-Men Cameo Revealed for THE WOLVERINE

0
0

I'm going to start this article off with a SPOILER ALERT because I don't want anyone to get pissed at me for not doing so. There's no confirmation of this rumor, but there's always a chance it could be true. So, for those of you who don't want to know what X-Men character and actor from the previous films might show up in The Wolverine then don't read beyond this point.

According to We Got This Covered, actress Famke Janssen flew into Sydney, Australia last week to reprise her role as Jean Grey a.k.a. The Phoenix for a little cameo. If this is true it'd be pretty awesome! I'd love to see the original cast members from Brian Singer's movies pop up again in the future X-Men films! Hell, there's a possibility we'll see them all about in Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: Days of Future Past.

The movie is being directed by James Mangold (3:10 To Yuma) based on the 1982 comic series created by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller, and is currently shooting. It's scheduled to hit theaters on July 26th, 2013, and stars Hugh JackmanWill Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima and Brian Tee.

What do you think about Janssen possibly coming back to reprise her role as Jean Grey in the film?

Here's the synopsis:

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, THE WOLVERINE finds Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. There, samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed.

Ubisoft and New Regency Team Up for ASSASSIN'S CREED Movie

Looks like that Assassins Creed movie Ubisoft has been wanting to make is going to happen! The video game developer has partnered up with New Regency who will finance and distribute the film! It's already been reported that X-Men: First Class star Michael Fassbender will take on the lead role in the movie, which is perfect casting.

The project is now on the fast track to production, and they will start work on getting a screenplay written up immediately. Ubisoft will maintain control of key elements of the movie's creative direction. Hopefully they will be able to turn this awesome game franchise into an awesome movie franchise.

New Regency CEO Brad Weston had this to say,

This is the perfect intersection of what we have been trying to do, and that is to work with top quality talent like Michael Fassbender. We see this as our first big commercial action franchise property. Fassbender just did 12 Years A Slave with us, and he is as good an actor as there is right now. The storyline we are pursuing has a great narrative and because Ubisoft’s games are so character and story driven, Assassin’s Creed lends itself perfectly to our goal to re-brand Regency as a filmmaker driven company.

Jean-Julien Baronnet, chief executive officer, Ubisoft Motion Pictures added,

Ubisoft chose to partner with New Regency because they are a talent- and filmmaker-driven company, with the same independent and creative mindset that we have at Ubisoft Motion Pictures. Bringing aboard New Regency’s renowned production and distribution expertise while maintaining our own creative and financial flexibility ensures that 'Assassin's Creed' will be a high-quality film that respects the lore and fans of the video game franchise.

I really hope they can get a great script, and bring on a solid director to pull this off. If it's done right it can change that way video game movies are made. It could also possibly pave the way for other video games like Halo and Bioshock to get back on the road to becoming films.

I love the Assassin's Creed games, and it has the potential to be an incredibly badass and visually stunning film franchise! Are you excited to hear that the movie is actually going to happen?

IRON MAN 3 Teaser Poster and 5 New Official Photos

0
0

Over the weekend Marvel released a very short teaser for the Iron Man 3 trailer set to be released early tomorrow morning, and in anticipation of that first trailer Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios have released some new photos from the film for you to check out!

Most of the photos come from USA Today, which incuded an interview with Marvel's Kevin Feige in which he talked about the film and Tony Stark saying,

He basically loses all of his toys and is forced to just use his mind to rebuild and to face his biggest enemy. He's ultimately the engineering superhero. He's so charming and so flamboyant that sometimes you forget that's what he is: 'Hey, kids, learn this stuff and you can maybe build an Iron Man suit.'

Check out the photos below and stay tuned for the first trailer!

Updated with a photo of Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin.

Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) is left to survey the damage caused when the Mandarin attacks Tony in a very personal manner in Iron Man 3. Kevin Feige goes on to reiterate early statements that Tony is going to be 'stripped' down back to bare essentials like he was in the cave in the first Iron Man movie.

The connection between Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) began in the two previous Iron Man movies and grew even more in The Avengers, and the new film will be filled with trials and tribulations that will bring them closer together, Feige says. "That's one of the things we love about (Tony). It is not a new girl in every film. Pepper Potts is an incredibly important part of his life and his evolution as a hero. She plays a very big part in this film."

"The goal with Iron Man 3 is to again prove that all of our single heroes are as interesting alone as they are when they're all together in an Avengers movie", says Feige.

Seven Iron Man suits in total have been seen in two Iron Man movies and The Avengers, but the all-new one in Iron Man 3 represents the most advanced version yet - particularly in how Tony Stark suits up. In the first movie, Tony had to stand in a gantry for five to 10 minutes to get fully armored, he had a lightweight "suitcase" suit for the second film, and in The Avengers a big coffin-sized case could fly out after him in midair and encase him in his high-tech armor. "Now we see he's invented a technology that allows him to basically have the suit arrive to him anywhere at any time, piece by piece," Feige says. "And it doesn't always work at first."

Here's the synopsis!

Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale withJon Favreau and Ben KingsleyIron Man 3 is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce and Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of Tales of Suspense (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with The Invincible Iron Man (#1) in May of 1968.

Steven Spielberg on Why He's Done With Action Movies and More

0
0

Over the weekend director Steven Spielberg did an interview on '60 Minutes' to talk about his life and filmmaking career. There was a lot of interesting stuff revealed such as; the fact that he's a nervous wreck when he's directing a movie, he was bullied in school, the movie he thought no one would see, and why he's not interested in making action movies anymore.

Here's what he had to say about all of these points during the interview.

On being a nervous wreck:

Lesley Stahl: You're a nervous wreck.

Steven Spielberg: Yeah, it's true.

Lesley Stahl: Is it a fear?

Steven Spielberg: It's not really fear. It's just much more of an anticipation of the unknown. And you know, the unknown could be food poisoning. It's just the kind of level of anxiety not being able to write my life as well as I can write my movies.

Lesley Stahl: What about a way to handle your fears?

Steven Spielberg: There's no better way than to tell a story about them and infect everybody else. Although, I'll tell you something, it doesn't get it off your chest. It doesn't.

Lesley Stahl: The fear comes right back again?

Steven Spielberg: Comes right back again like it belongs to you. I own my fear.

On being bullied:

Steven had trouble fitting in: he wasn't a good student, and wasn't good at sports. He was bullied.

Steven Spielberg: I was a nerd in those days. Outsider. Like the kid that played the clarinet in the band and orchestra, which I did.

Leah Adler: We lived in an all non-Jewish neighborhood. These people used to chant, 'The Spielberg's are dirty Jews.' And one night, Steve climbed out of his bedroom window and peanut buttered their windows, which I thought was marvelous.

Lesley Stahl: Do you remember what you did?

Steven Spielberg: I took Skippy peanut butter and smeared it all over their windows.... I guess right now we're beyond the statute of limitations, so I can't get sued for vandalism.

On the movie he never thought anyone would see:

Even Schindler's List about the Holocaust grew out of a decision by Spielberg to face down the anti-Semitism he grew up with in Phoenix.

Lesley Stahl: You never expected people to go see it, I heard.

Steven Spielberg: No. I didn't. That's why I shot it in black and white. I did everything I needed to do to tell the story the way I thought the story should be told, to give it as much integrity as I could, never expecting it to make a dollar.

But it did, and then some: it made 320 million. Spielberg won his first Oscars for Directing and Best Picture. And his career went to a whole new level.

On not being interested in action movies anymore:

Lesley Stahl: There's not a lot of action. There's no Spielberg special effects.

Steven Spielberg: Right.

Lesley Stahl: It's a movie about process and politics. Have you ever done a movie even remotely-

Steven Spielberg: Never. Like this?

Lesley Stahl: Not even close.

Steven Spielberg: Never. No. I knew I could do the action in my sleep at this point in my career. In my life, the action doesn't hold any-- it doesn't attract me anymore.

I guess he doesn't see a challenge in making action films anymore. I can understand that maybe he feels like he's burnt out on action, but then I think how awesome it would be for him to take action to a whole new level. If anyone can give us an action movie we've never seen before, it's Spielberg. It also doesn't seem to be stopping him from directing the adaptation of Robopocalypse, which seems like it will be a heavy action film. I wonder if he'll start to phase them out after.

The interview is 14 minutes long and you can watch it below! It also includes new footage from his next feature film Lincoln, and he also talks about things in his his personal life that you might find interesting. What do you think about Spielberg not being interested in making action movies anymore?

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 5 Gets the Green Light

It shouldn't come as a surprise to you to hear that Paramount Pictures has already greenlit Paranormal Activity 5. They're going to suck every cent they can out of this franchise. I have yet to see the fourth film, but I hear it's just as good as the other ones, so I'm hoping to catch it soon.

The movie will once again be produced by Jason Blum and Oren Peli and the plan is to release it in October of 2013. This movie is separate from the Latino spin-off movie that will be released in Spring of 2013. That movie will revolve around the horrors of the Catholic church. Christopher Landon, son of Hollywood legend Michael Landon, is directing the movie. He previously wrote the spec-script for Disturbia.

As a fan of the Paranormal Activity franchise, I'm looking forward to seeing how both of these new horror movies turn out! Have you seen Paranormal Activity 4 yet? Did you like it, and are you looking forward to seeing more?

Walking Dead S3 Ep2: Wreck It Rick?!

0

Was I not the only one completely taken aback by what I saw last night? For those of you who missed it (hey this might be a good time not to read if you haven't seen the episode yet) Rick completely squashed any possible tension between the group and the prison inmates by taking very "Shane-esque" action. Don't get me wrong, we've seen Rick drop just about anyone who threatens him directly, but I wasn't expecting it to happen so outright as it did! Then to abandon the two remaining survivors to the cell block with no help? That's a cold blooded side we didn't see last season when he went out of his way to keep a kid prisoner.
Then we have the whole Lori tension that I don't fully grasp. He wasn't mad last season about the child potentially being Shane's, but now it seems he won't even talk to her. This lack of compassion or caring is another thing we haven't seen too much from the formerly "big hearted" Rick. It honestly makes me wonder how rough that winter was for him to undergo such a huge transformation. Hopefully we will see a winter episode sometime in the future to give us a better grasp of how the new Rick came to be.
Other than that there's only a few other head scratching moments that I had this episode such as...
  • Why does Carl have the keys if you don't want him to leave the cell?
  • How can five inmates stay in one room for 200+ days and not be severely disturbed?
  • Why did Carol have to leave Herschel's bedside at a critical stage in his recovery to practice a C-section on a zombie? Couldn't she have waited until the next day at least?
That and the mysterious stranger watching Carol in the woods, but I have a feeling that question will be answered sooner than later. Anything else you want to talk about? Post below!

Unsettling and Creepy Stop-Motion Short Film DRAINED

0
0

Here's a very interesting and creepy live-action stop-motion short film produced by Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite) called Drained. It tells the story of how "a man's addictions can destroy the woman he loves." It's actually really quite unsettling and sad, but it's also done very well.

In an interview with io9, director Nick Peterson explained the story saying,

It's an interesting story because everybody knows somebody in their life who has drained them, whether it's a brother who's always getting into trouble or a spouse who brings his or her problems home. This film doesn't end with a happy ending — but we chose not to, because it shows what happens when you do nothing. I recently directed a video for the band Five-Finger Death Punch that is an anti-suicide, anti-bullying video. That video went over well, as it showed that you can be saved. But for Drained, we played the down card. That may cost us on the popular approach, but we're showing consequences here, and that will emotionally resonate with certain viewers.

I honestly never expected to see anything like this from Heder who added:

Whether you're a fan of my previous material or not, I wanted to give audiences a sense of what my interests are — and those range from broad comedies to these experimental, dramatic shorts.

Watch the short film and share your thoughts with us on it.

Here are some Fun Facts about the film listed on their YouTube page:

Fun Facts:
• The funding was raised through kickstarter.com, a crowd-source funding website.
• To give this film a unique look, the entire film was shot with still photographs at a speed of 8 frames per second. All 254,000+ still frames were shot with a single Canon DSLR 7D camera.
• In order to compensate for the slow frame rate of 8 seconds, the actors had to move 3 times slower than normal while covered in makeup, wearing masks, and with blinding strobe lights flashing in sync with the camera at 8 flashes per second.
• While shooting the Director and DP were unable to look through the eyepiece of the camera and had to kind of guess where the actors were in the shot during each take.
• Shooting lasted for 10 days.
• Due to the sudden illness of the original actress, Andee Tims was cast to play the Woman the day before she began the shoot.
• Makeup took about 4-6 hours each day to apply, and about another hour each day to remove.
• Over 1000 condoms were used to build the condom suit.
• The final 8 second shot of the film took 14 hours and two animators to shoot, and 6 people 2 hours to clean all the goo from the floor.

Teaser Clip for the Latino PARANORMAL ACTIVITY Film

Paramount Pictures included a little teaser clip at the end of Paranormal Activity 4 for their untitled Latino spin-off. That clip is now online for you to watch. The new horror movie is being produced by Jason Blum and Oren Peli and is being written and directed by Christopher Landon. It will be released sometime in the spring of 2013, and will center on some terrifying Catholic Church mythology.

It's pretty amazing to see how much this horror franchise has blown up, especially since it all started with a fun $11,000 indie movie. If you can't hear or understand what is being said in the clip, one man says something to the effect of “is this witchcraft?” and a creepy woman responds, “this is just the beginning.” (Note: most of the movie will be in English.)

Watch the clip and let us know if you're looking forward to this Latino spin-off series!

This is actually a real toy, and you have to admit... it's pretty awesome! The action figure is called "Chogokin King Robot Mickey & Friends" and it features our favorite classic Disney characters who combine to make a giant Voltron-like Disney robot of death!

Chogokin King Robot Mickey & Friends is composed of Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Steamboat Willy, Donald and Daisy Duck, Goofy, and Pluto. Ace Willy is the head, Jet Mickey and Sky Minnie will be the torso, Diver Donald and Aqua Daisy are the arms, while Land Goofy and Dash Pluto & Doghouse will be the legs.

Why wasn't this around when I was a kid?! The toy comes out next March, and it will cost around $160. What do you think of the concept behind this Disney character robot?

Here's a new photo that gives us our first look at Bolg the Orc Chieftain in Peter Jackson's long awaited film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The character is played by Conan Stevens in the movie, and as you can see, the costume and make-up design are pretty badass! Jackson and his team sure know how to design cool creatures!

Bolg is the secondary antagonist in The Hobbit, he "was an Orc chieftain who came to power in the Misty Mountains after his father, Azog was killed in the war with Dwarves. Bolg ruled for some 150 years and led an army of Orcs in the Battle of Five Armies."

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters December 14th. What do you think of Bolg's look?

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Writer/Producer Working on Pixar Feature

Buffy the Vampire Slayer writer and producer Marti Noxon is currently working on developing a script for a new animated feature film for Pixar. As of right now there are no details on the project but Noxon is a talented writer that has also worked on several other TV shows and films such as Mad Men, Glee, Grey's Anatomy, Prison Break, Fright Night, I Am Number Four and more. As you can see she's got a very wide range of talent.

It seems like she'll make a great addition to the Pixar team, and I'm looking forward to seeing what she ends up developing with them. I know it will never happen, but it would be so cool to see Buffy get a Pixar reboot. Whatever she ends up working on, I'm always excited to see what Pixar has cooking for us!

THE HELP Director to Take on JAMES BROWN Biopic

0

The Help director Tate Taylor is currently in negotiations to direct a feature film biopic of musical legend James Brown. The movie is being produced by Image Entertainment's Brian Grazer and The Rolling Stone's Mick Jagger is also along for the ride as a producer!

The film was written by Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth (Birthday Girl, The Last Legion, Fair Game). According to Deadline, "the story charts a young boy’s rise from extreme poverty and violence to become The Godfather Of Soul, one of the most influential black artists in history whose career spanned six decades. Grazer started the project at a time when the singer himself was an active part in its development, before he died in late 2006."

Well, it's cool to see the project finally moving forward again after all this years. This is a passion project for Grazer who has said Brown was "one of the most electric, exciting stage performers of all time." Jagger added,

It’s a great honor to be involved with a project as rich as the story of the legendary James Brown. He was a mesmerizing performer with a fascinating life.

Brown’s family will still be part of the package, and will be involved with the development. Brown's Widow, Tommie Rae Brown, made the following statement,

I am deeply honored that Mick Jagger and Brian Grazer, two of my husband James Brown’s favorite people, have entered into a partnership to bring his inspirational story to the big screen.

Brown’s daughter Deanna Brown Thomas added,

My father’s music has been a beacon to people all over the world and now his life story will impact future generations and show Why he is respected as The Godfather of Soul, Mr. James Brown!

I'm excited about this project! I'm a huge fan of Brown's music, and it will be interesting to see who they end up casting in the movie. Who do you think would make a good James Brown?

There's actually some very surprising stuff included in the trailer.
