Nicolas Cage to Star in Action-Thriller LEFT BEHIND

$

Another day, another piece of Nicholas Cage casting news! This guy is signed on to star in so many film projects that I'm starting to think that he's got a Cage clone out there helping him out. He's currently in talks to star in a faith based action thriller called Left Behind. The movie is based on a series of books written by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, dealing with the End Times. It features a Christian eschatological viewpoint of the end of the world.

Apparently, this will also be a reboot of a film series already made that starred Kirk Cameron. I've never seen the original films or read the books, but from the research I've done on it it sounds like it will make for an interesting film series. It's easy to see Cage take on a project like this.

The writer and producer of the original set of films, Paul Lalonde, has written a screenplay with John Patus, who worked on the final entry 2005's Left Behind: World at War. According to THR "they are hoping to take the movie series in a more mainstream direction and are eyeing a budget in the $15 million range."

Have you read any of the books in the series or watched any of the previous films? Do you think this could be a successful movie franchise?

Here's a description of the book series:

Based on dispensationalist interpretation of prophecies in the Biblical books of RevelationDanielIsaiah and EzekielLeft Behind tells the story of the end times (set in the contemporary era), in which true believers in Christ have been "raptured", (i.e. taken instantly to heaven) leaving the world shattered and chaotic. As people scramble for answers, a relatively unknown, Romanian politician named Nicolae Jetty Carpathia rises to become secretary-general of the United Nations, promising to restore peace and stability to all nations. What most of the world does not realize is that Carpathia is actually the Antichrist foretold from the Bible. Coming to grips with the truth and becoming born-again Christians, Rayford Steele, his daughter Chloe, their pastor Bruce Barnes, and young journalist Cameron "Buck" Williams begin their quest as the Tribulation Force to help save the lost and prepare for the coming Tribulation, in which God will rain down judgment on the world for seven years.

Check out this great piece of Mondo poster art for Friday the 13th Part 3 created by artist Jay Shaw. It's a simple design, but at the same time it's kind of terrifying -- especially when you look into those soulless eyes. Out of all the Friday the 13th movies, which one was your favorite? (Other than the original because that's just a given.)

Jason Segel and Drew Pearce Team for THE OTHER F WORD

If The Other F Word sounds familiar to you, that's because it's already a movie title.

Deadline reports that Jason Segel and Drew Pearce are teaming up to bring the 2011 documentary about punk rockers who eventually become fathers (that's "the other F word" they're hinting at) to the big screen as a narrative feature. The original doc featured interviews with Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, as well as members of Rise Against and Blink-182, and told the rather ironic story of guys who raged against authority in their youth only to grow up and become the ultimate authority figure: a dad.

The collaboration between Segel and Pearce (who's co-writing Iron Man 3 as well as Godzilla and Sherlock Holmes 3) seems like a weird one considering their previous filmographies, but it should be interesting to see what kind of comedic situations they can mine from this material. Segel is musically talented (as evidenced by his work in The Muppets and Forgetting Sarah Marshall), but will he be believable as a former punk rocker? Time will tell.

Did you see The Other F Word? Are you looking forward to this version with these guys attached?

I couldn’t help but post this. I am a Star Wars fanboy. Anything that has to do with that galaxy far, far away is alright with me.

Well, if you are anything like me, then you will enjoy these pieces from artist Kelly Kerrigan. The concept is ridiculous, but the outcome is fantastic. Who could pass up iconic characters from Star Wars holding bunnies? I really wish I could get one of these on black velvet, I think that would make my year. Check these out and enjoy!

Here's another clip from Silent Hill: Revelation 3D featuring Heather Mason (Adelaide Clemens) returning to Silent Hill for the first time in the movie. Being that the first Silent Hill movie is considered by many to be one of the best video game adaptations that's been made, are you excited for the sequel?

The movie was written and directed Michael J. Bassett and also stars Sean Bean, Kit Harington, Radha Mitchell, Deborah Kara Unger, Carrie-Ann Moss, Malcolm McDowell, Martin Donovan and Heather Marks.

Here's the Synopsis:

The story follows Heather Mason, along with her father, who have been on the run - always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't fully understand. Now, on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.

The movie will be released in theaters on October 26th, 2012. I'm curious to hear what you think about the sequel after you watch it. We'll have a review up for the film as soon as we're allowed to post one.

I know that I am showing my age when I say this, but I totally missed the boat on the whole Pokemon scene. I can totally understand the appeal; however, I never took the time to pay attention.

With that said, here are a few really cool realistic, to scale Pokemon pics that we found over at Geekology. There are by DeviantARTist arvalis. If Pokemon actually looked like this, I might actually watch. Check these out and enjoy!

Poster for the Zombie Love Story WARM BODIES

Here's the first poster for writer/director Jonathan Levine's zombie love story Warm Bodies. The film is an adaptation of a novel written by Isaac Marion, and the story follows an "existentially-tormented zombie (Nicholas Hoult) named R that begins an unlikely friendship with the human girlfriend of one of his victims. The blossoming relationship starts a chain reaction that will transform him, his fellow zombies and maybe the whole lifeless world." Here's what Levine had to say about the poster design,

I think it captures the tone of the movie really nicely. It's iconic, it's irreverent, it's got a sense of humor about itself, and yet it's got heart. I'm really happy with it, and I can't wait to see it on a subway or billboard. It's very striking.

The movie also stars Teresa Palmer, Rob Corddry, John Malkovich, Analeigh Tipton, Dave Franco and Cory Hardrict. It's set to be released on February 1st, 2013.

Levine is the director of films like The Wackness and 50/50, so I'm hoping it turns out better than what I'm expecting. Does this movie interest you at all? You can check out a few images from the film here.

IT is such an awesomely scary story! I loved the book, I loved the TV movie, and I'm looking forward to the two part film being developed over at Warner Bros. by director Cary Fukunaga. Pennywise the Clown is such a terrifying character, and here's a great piece of art created by Deviant Artist caseycallenderart paying tribute to the clown of death. It appropriately called... Disney to Develop ALEXANDER AND THE TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD DAY

Disney is set to produce and develop the live-action big screen adaptation of the classic kids book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. The movie was previous set up at 20th Century Fox, but they let it go last month, and it ended up in Disney's lap.

The movie is being developed by writer/director Lisa Cholodenko who also made the film The Kids Are All Right, and Steve Carell is attached to star in it.

The story was written by Judith Viorst, and it follows a young boy who endures a frustrating day that begins with him waking up to find gum in his hair and ends with him threatening to move to Australia. Other characters include Alexander's two older brothers and their parents.

This story fits perfectly with the Disney brand, so I hope it turns out as entertaining as the book is.

Here's a short description of the book:

Alexander knew it was going to be a terrible day when he woke up with gum in this hair.

And it got worse...

His best friend deserted him. There was no dessert in his lunch bag. And, on top of all that, there were lima beans for dinner and kissing on TV!

This is one amazing LEGO Playset. I have seen some epic designs in the past, but this LEGO Batcave playset is one of the best I have seen. The handmade set has 20,000 individual parts and weighs over 100 pounds.

If you had a bunch of time on your hands, what movie would you build a LEGO playset for? I would love to make a James Bond playset.

Epic Tribute Art for The Original STAR TREK Series

Check out this great piece of tribute art for the original Star Trek series! It was created by Dusty Abell, and here's what he had to say about it!

This piece is for all the Original Star Trek fans out there like me...... I've been working on this for a while now and I'm happy to finally get to share it with people. Definitely a labor of love this one and SO much fun to do at the same time. I was trying to think about the first time I could recall seeing the show when I was little and my best guess is it had to have been before I was 4 years old in 1973, because I distinctly remember being aware of the show before the animated series debuted in September of 73'. The series was probably more responsible than anything else in sparking my love of sci-fi and fantasy and i'll always be grateful that I grew up during its initial run in syndication. The trinity of Kirk/Spock/McCoy were the backbone and soul of the show for me. Individually they represented three distinct qualities whose interplay made for fascinating viewing..........Kirk the ethical leader, Spock the logical sounding board and McCoy the emotional confidant. The stories, both serious and whimsical captivated me, the production wowed me and the acting was always entertaining. I've included at least one, sometimes more, character, entity, starship or structure from every episode of the original series, 80 in all including the pilot, in this piece. I hope Trek fans enjoy this as much as I did making it, I'm pretty proud of it.

The illustration turned out awesome! Can you name all of the characters represented in it? Click the image to enlarge it!

Animated Prequel Short for THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS

Universal Pictures has released this great artistic animated short that gives us a little background story on the Blacksmith character in The Man with the Iron Fists, played by RZA. The prequel short features the Blacksmith on his way to China on a Dutch trading vessel. The Blacksmith and the crew end up having an unfortunate encounter at a typical port stop.

The movie also stars Russell Crowe, Lucy Liu, Rick Yune, Jamie Chung, Cung Le, Dave Bautista, Byron Mann, Daniel Wu and Pam Grier. It's set to hit theaters on November 2nd, and it looks like it will be a crazy fun time!

Here's the Synopsis:

Presented by Quentin Tarantino, the action-adventure is inspired by kung-fu classics as interpreted by his longtime collaborators RZA and Eli Roth. Making his debut as a big-screen director and leading man, RZA-alongside a stellar international cast led by Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu-tells the epic story of warriors, assassins and a lone outsider hero in nineteenth-century China who must unite to destroy the clan traitor who would destroy them all.

Since his arrival in China's Jungle Village, the town's blacksmith (RZA) has been forced by radical tribal factions to create elaborate tools of destruction. When the clans' brewing war boils over, the stranger channels an ancient energy to transform himself into a human weapon. As he fights alongside iconic heroes and against soulless villains, one man must harness this power to become savior of his adopted people.

JURASSIC PARK Raptor Suit - Behind the Scenes Test Footage

Check out this awesome never-before-seen test footage of a raptor suit that was used on Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park. The video comes from the Stan Winston School, and shows us the evolution of the suit, from it's design, to sculpture, to the foam test body, and finally the finished product that ended up on screen. The behind the scenes video comes with the following note,

Although Stan Winston Studio created multiple raptors for JURASSIC PARK, including full-size cable-controlled puppets, half-puppets and insert legs, some Raptor shots were most efficiently captured with a man in a suit. SWS supervisor John Rosengrant was pegged as the main Raptor suit performer, with SWS concept designer Mark “Crash” McCreery also pitching in when the shot required two raptors.

Remember that kitchen scene in the movie? Well there was a guy in one of those Raptor suits! In all honesty, until now, I never knew there was a guy in a Raptor suit! It kind of blows my mind! It was so awesomely well done! Rosengrant had this to say in an interview,

That was my first big scene, and as I was getting ready to do it, it occurred to me that it was a big deal. I didn’t have stage fright, really, because I had rehearsed that moment over and over again. I’d practiced so much, I could have done it in my sleep. But suddenly, as I was about to do the scene, I realized that I had to be prepared to do whatever Steven asked of me, not just those specific moves. Fortunately, it all worked out fine. That was my
big starring moment — my fifteen seconds of fame!

Hope you enjoy the video below! Did you know there was a full man powered Raptor suit used in the movie? I want one of these for Halloween!

IRON MAN 3 - Teaser to the Teaser Trailer Bullshit!!!

$

We know an Iron Man 3 teaser trailer is coming on Tuesday. In an effort to help build more hype, Marvel has rewarded fans with a Teaser to the Teaser Trailer. The 10 seconds of footage is much longer than the 3 frames J.J. Abrams gave us recently for the next Star Trek film. While I'm glad to see anything from Iron Man 3, it feels redundant to release this only 36 hours away from the teaser trailer.

Set your expectations low when watching this teaser to the teaser trailer. They could at least give us something cool and not such weak-sauce clips. What they showed at comic-con was truly amazing and exciting.

Do you think this marketing tactic is Bullshit too?

DISNEYLAND - Cool Behind the Scenes Attraction Photos

Here's an awesome set of photos that gives us a rare look into the parts of Disneyland most people don't get to see! I love going to Disneyland, I especially enjoy taking my kids, as I always tend to have a great time with them. It's a place where I get to be a kid, with my kids.

I've never seen any of the behind the scenes stuff before other than a few videos and photos over the years, but this is a pretty big collection of awesome photos. It's definitely the biggest collection that I've ever seen. It gives us a look at what goes on behind the curtain of several theme park attractions that include The Haunted Mansion, Matterhorn, Pirates of the Caribbean, Big Thunder Mountain, Jungle Cruise, Walts Apartment and more.

For those of you who are huge Disney fans, you've either seen these before, or you haven't and you're going to love them! It'd be so cool to take a behind the scenes tour of Disneyland! Enjoy the photos!
