Details on Mary Jane's Role in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

0
0

According to THR The Descendants co-star Shailene Woodley has landed the role of Mary Jane in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. There's still no official word from Sony Pictures on the matter, but there's a little bit of information on the character's role in the sequel,

The Mary Jane role is proving to be only a very small part in Amazing Spider-Man 2 but blossoms into an integral lead for the planned third movie as the studio seeks to build to the classic "Death of Gwen Stacy" story.

So don't expect Mary Jane to play a big part in the story until the third film roles around. Marc Webb will be back to direct the sequel, and Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will be back to reprise their roles. The script for the sequel comes from Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner and James Vanderbilt.

I enjoyed the first film, and I'm looking forward to seeing the story continue! Who would you like to see as the villain in the next movie?

WB Sends Studio Rep to Keep An Eye on FURY ROAD

Fans of director George Miller know that the filmmaker has a tendency to run over budget and a bit behind schedule. It's often not his fault - as with the planned Justice League movie a few years ago, or when Fury Road was delayed because the change in scenery on location - but Warner Bros. isn't taking any chances.

THR reports that the studio is sending producer Denise di Novi to keep an eye on things during production on Fury Road, which stars Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, and report back to President Jeff Robinov. Honestly, this type of thing probably happens all the time, so there's no need for us to blow it out of proportion and start assuming that this production is in trouble. Yes, it's moving a few days behind schedule right now in Namibia, but that doesn't mean that we have a disaster on our hands.

On the even more positive side, I think it's awesome that Miller, the man who created the Mad Max franchise in the first place, is being given the opportunity to come back and continue his series mostly on his terms. If it was being handed off to an up-and-coming filmmaker, I doubt there would be quite this much excitement about this project, and we're all anxious to see what he can do with future installments in this classic post-apocalyptic franchise.

Are you looking forward to taking a drive down Fury Road?

Shailene Woodley to Join the Sci-fi Film DIVERGENT

The Descendants actress Shailene Woodley has become quite popular over the last week. It was recently announced that she's in talks to play Mary Jane in Marc Webb's sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, and now she's looking to take on the lead role in a futuristic sci-fi thriller called Divergent

Divergent is a book recently picked up by Summit Entertainment with The Illusionist and Limitless director Neil Burger set to develop it. The stoy has been likened to The Hunger Games as it features teen on teen violence. It centers on a 16-year-old girl named Beatrice Prior, who lives in a world where society is divided into five factions that each represent a particular virtue: honesty, selflessness, bravery, peacefulness and intelligence.

Woodley has proven to be a very talented young actress, and I can see why studios are trying to cast her in these movies. It's always interesting to watch young actors' careers blow up.

This is the first book in a trilogy that author Veronica Roth has planned, and here's the description:

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her

This is a fun illustration featuring the unlikely meeting of Deadpool and Captain Jack Sparrow... awkward. DeviantArt artist kamineo did the inking, and the coloring was done by EmmaSeptimus. The artist had this to say in a note,

Stop looking for any sense in this work. theres none. promise.

It's just a fun and crazy happenstance.

A Chronological Journey Through T-Shirts in Film

0

Long ago, before changing your t-shirt became a way of expressing your mood, declaring your support for a band or cause, or perhaps your lazy ass substitution for taking a shower, the t-shaped garment was merely thought of as underwear. Fibers takes us on a chronological journey through memorable t-shirts in film, starting with Marlon Brando in A Streetcar Named Desire, which helped launch the t-shirt as a wear alone item.

See how many of the characters you can name! The answers are at the bottom. What other memorable t-shirts from movies do you wish were on here?

Mark Millar Discusses X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Mark Millar is already hard at work helping FOX out with their Marvel movie properties since he's become their creative consultant. As Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class sequel, X-Men: Days of Future Past, is gearing up for production Millar gives us a little bit of insight into what we can expect to see in the film, and apparently it's got everything! Here's what he had to say in an interview with SFX magazine.

Vaughn is going for a big sci-fi style thing with X-Men: Days of Future Past. It's X-Men meets The Terminator, you've got robots, you've got time travel, you've got superheroes - it's got everything in one film.

With the mention of robots, it sure sounds like we are going to see Sentinels in the film! That's going to be an awesome sight to see! The first movie was so good, and it sounds like Vaughn is going to give us something even bigger and better this time around.

The movie is currently scheduled to start production in January of 2013, and will be released on July 18th, 2014.

Trailer for the Horror Movie Spoof A HAUNTED HOUSE

I absolutely hate these movies, there's no redeeming value to them at all. I think they're a waste of time and money. The movie is called A Haunted House, and comes from the creators of the Scary Movie franchise. I'll admit, the first Scary Movie was fun and entertaining, but everything that's been made since has been utter trash. This latest film is basically a Paranormal Activity spoof, and it looks terrible. I guess if you like fart jokes this is the movie for you.

Here's the Synopsis:

From the creators of "Scary Movie" comes another hilarious horror spoof, a parody of the "Paranormal Activity" franchise. When newlyweds Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) and Kisha (Essence Atkins) move into their dream house, they quickly find they're not alone. But it's not the house that's haunted, but his wife that is possessed with spirits -- or as Malcolm calls it -- "relationship baggage." Malcolm hires everyone from a priest to modern day ghost busters to rid her of the demon, determined not to let the evil spirit ruin his marriage... or his sex life for that matter.

The film hits theaters January 11th, 2013. Check out the trailer and let us know if this looks like something you'd want to see. It's ok to to admit it, I won't judge you.

Watch Live Action Opening of THE SIMPSONS

Here's an older video that's making the rounds on the internet again. Check out America's favorite animated family in "real life". This live action opening of The Simpsons is really cool, although I was really hoping to see the plutonium flip into live action Homer's back of his shirt. It also would've been awesome to see a blue haired Marge, but beggars can't be choosers. I'm reading far too much into this, just watch and enjoy. We've also included a side by side comparison to the animated version below as well.

Want to Know What's Happening with the DEADPOOL Movie?

0
0

It's been a long time since we've heard anything on FOX's Deadpool film project, and that's because nothing is really happening with it right now. Apparently the studio is just kind of sitting on it, letting it collect dust. The director attached to Deadpool is Tim Miller and he's part of the Goon Kickstarter campaign. He recently answered some questions in the comment section of the Kickstarter regarding Deadpool, and here's what he had to say,

We've turned in an amazing script and done some early tests and visual development that--I'm confident--would get the fans stoked. And Ryan still loves the project. So it's really up to Fox as to whether or not the film happens--all I can do is hope (and beg periodically) that it be allowed to move ahead.

Maybe now that comic writer Mark Millar is the Marvel creative consultant over at FOX he'll be able to push this thing into production! We all want to see it happen, and it sounds like they have a great R-rated vision for it! Come on FOX let's finally get this thing made!

HBO Wants a New World War II Series and They got David Fincher

HBO is looking to add another World War II miniseries to their collection which already includes Band of Brothers and The Pacific, which both came from producers Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. I loved those series, and I want to see more!

HBO heads Michael Lombardo and Richard Plepler revealed the news and explained that the third series would follow the aerial battles in the Pacific. How badass is that?! One of my favorite aspects of WWII were the aerial battles, and it will be amazing to see this brought to life! There's no confirmation, but I imagine that Spielberg and Hanks will be back to develop it.

David Fincher is a different story all together. There's no word on if he'll be a part of this new WWII project they want to do, but the cable network has signed a deal with him. There's no word on what he'll be developing for them, but The Playlist points out that a couple of years ago Fincher teamed up with Charlize Theron to adapt the book Mind Hunter: Inside The FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit into a series. The book was written by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker, and follows Douglas' work as an FBI profiler who tracked serial killers. This is perfect territory for Fincher, and if this is what Fincher is planning to bring to the table I imagine it would be awesome!

What do you all think about HBO wanting to make another WWII series and making a deal with David Fincher?

Today's Halloween Geek Art features the Predator wearing Jason Voorhees' hockey mask. The illustration was created by DeviantArt artist DynamoRobo, and it's called "PredaVoorhees." I never really thought of the Predator being a serial killer, but I guess he kind of is. Do you think this would make for a great movie mashup?!

Here's a cool short film that was written and directed by Jesse O'Brien on a budget of only $600. For the amount of money spent on this it's pretty impressive. The film is called Arrowhead: Signal, and it's "about a mercenary stranded alone on a desert planet, awaiting rescue."

They are looking to crowd-fund the feature film, and they have three weeks left. For those of you interested in donating to the production fund click here.

Check out the 10-minute short below and let us know what you think of it! Thanks to O'Brien for sending this over to us!

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson tweeted out this photo of himself on the set to Fast 6 showing off his massive guns. The image came with the following note,

In 'Hollywood speak' this is 'lining up the shot'. In 'Rock speak' it's 'distract me & I'll throw you into the sun.'

The movie is being directed by Justin Lin and stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Gina Carano, Luke Evans, Joe Taslim, Gal Gadot, Tyrese, Jordana Brewster, Ludacris and Michelle Rodriguez.

It's set to be released on May 24th, 2013, and it will be the first movie in the franchise where they will start to fully move away from the underground car racing theme and into a heist film theme.

Are you looking forward to the new Fast and Furious movie?

Andy Serkis Set to Direct ANIMAL FARM

0
0

Performance capture actor Andy Serkis has made quite a name for himself over the years, starring in films such as Lord of the Rings, King Kong, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and most recently The Hobbit -- in which he also served as 2nd unit director. He's now set to direct a big screen adaptation of the classic George Orwell novel Animal Farm. I love this book, and I always thought it would make for an incredible movie.

It will be produced by The Imaginarium, a London-based performance capture studio that Serkis and producer Jonathan Cavendish (Bridget Jones’s Diary, Elizabeth: The Golden Age) formed back in 2011. Here's what Serkis had to say about the project in a recent interview with THR,

I think we found a rather fresh way of looking at it. It is definitely using performance capture but we are using an amalgamation of filming styles to create the environmments.

We are in proof of concept stage at the moment, designing characters and experimenting on our stage with the designs. It is quite a wide canvas at the moment as to how much and how far we can take performance capture with quadrupeds and how much we will be using facial [capture]. We are not discounting the use of keyframe animation or puppeteering parts of animals. We are in an experimental phase; it’s terribly exciting.

Serkis went on to talk about the story saying,

We’re keeping it fable-istic and [aimed at] a family audience. We are not going to handle the politics in a heavy-handed fashion. It is going to be emotionally centered in a way that I don’t think has been seen before. The point of view that we take will be slightly different to how it is normally portrayed and the characters—we are examining this in a new light.

I loved the politics in the book, it's what kept the story so intriguing. I never thought of this story as a family film, so it will be interesting to see what they do with it. Hopefully they don't water it down to the point of idiocracy. It's a smart book, and I don't see the point of dumbing it down.

There's a chance that Serkis will act in the film as well, but that has yet to be seen. For those of you not familiar with the book here's a little explanation,

Animal Farm tells the story of a group of farm animals who successfully revolt against their cruel human owner, only to be enslaved anew by the unscrupulous pig Napoleon, whose slogan is "all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others."

According to Orwell, the book reflects events leading up to and during the Stalin era before the Second World War. "The novel addresses not only the corruption of the revolution by its leaders but also how wickedness, indifference, ignorance, greed and myopia corrupt the revolution. It portrays corrupt leadership as the flaw in revolution, rather than the act of revolution itself. It also shows how potential ignorance and indifference to problems within a revolution could allow horrors to happen if a smooth transition to a people's government is not achieved."

Hopefully Serkis can capture all of this in his adaptation. There's actually an animated film, that was made that was actually pretty dark. You can watch it in its entirety below. Are you excited about Serkis bringing Animal Farm to life on the big screen?

OLDBOY to Be Released October of 2013

Film District has announced that they will release Spike Lee's Oldboy on October 11th, 2013. The movie is a remake of Park Chan-wook 2003 film, which was adapted from a Manga comic. I'm curious to see how this movie turns out, especially since they will be changing up the ending. Apparently it's supposed to be darker and crazier than the original -- that's hard to imagine, so it's sparked my interest.

It's got an incredible cast of actors that includes Josh Brolin who plays the main character that's kidnapped and imprisoned, Elizabeth Olsen plays the young woman he meets when he's released, and Sharlto Copley plays the crazy villain hell bent on revenge. Samuel L. Jackson and Nate Parker also will appear in the film.

Are you excited to see Lee's version of Oldboy?

Synopsis:

OLDBOY follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement without any indication of his captor’s motive.  When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment. His quest for revenge leads him into an ill-fated relationship with a young social worker (Elizabeth Olsen) and ultimately to an illusive man (Sharlto Copley) who allegedly holds the key to his salvation.

Terrifying Concept Art for PROMETHEUS' Chestbuster Sex Scene

0
0

A couple of weeks ago screenwriter Jon Spaihts revealed that there was supposed to be chestbusters in Ridley Scott's Prometheus, one of which was supposed to bust out of Holloway's chest while having sex with Shaw. Below you'll find a piece of concept art showing us what that scene might have looked like. The image is absolutely terrifying, and NSFW, but it's so cool!

Here's his description of that scene:

I did have facehuggers in my original draft," says Spaights. "David, as he began to get fascinated by the science of the Engineers, doesn't deliberately contaminate Holloway with a drop of black liquid. Instead, Holloway hubristically removes his helmet in the chamber, is knocked unconscious, facehugged and wakes up not knowing what had been done to him, and stumbles back into the ship."

"In my draft, he returns to his cabin, is embraced by Shaw, who is delighted to see him having feared that he had died, and the two of them make love," he goes on to say. "And it's while they're making love that he bursts and dies. So that lovemaking sequence echoed my original lovemaking sequence where he explodes! It was messy."

It looks like it would have been insane! And that Alien ripping through his chest is freakin' crazy looking. Would you have liked to see this scene play out on the big screen?

Trailer for the Romantic Comedy SAVE THE DATE

0
0

Here's the trailer for an upcoming romantic comedy called Save the Date, and it stars Community's Allison Brie and Lizzy Caplan (Party Down). The movie played up at Sundance this year, and here's part of our review of it written by Ben,

The biggest problem with Save The Date is that I didn't feel like it added anything new to this type of story. We've seen it hashed and rehashed tons of times before - a young woman rejects her current life in favor of a spontaneous new relationship.

I won't be rushing out to the theater to see this one, but maybe somewhere down the line I'll check it out.

Here's the Synopsis:

After an ill-timed and very public marriage proposal, fiercely independent Sarah (Caplan) breaks up with her overeager boyfriend Kevin (Arend). Sarah turns to her sister Beth (Brie) for support, but Beth is too busy obsessing over the details of her own wedding to Kevin’s band mate, Andrew (Starr). When Sarah suddenly finds herself caught up in an intense rebound romance with the adorable Jonathan (Webber), she is forced to examine her own fears of commitment and vulnerability. With honesty, heart, and humor, all five struggle with the trials, happiness, and pain of modern love. In the end Sarah must decide – is it better to stay safely single or to risk it all on love?

Save the Date will be released on VOD November 8th and theaters December 14th.

Mind Boggling, Body Bending Motorcycle Bodypaint

Building 3 motorcycles in 3 days would be pretty impressive. Building 3 motorcycles out of nothing but a bunch naked yoga gurus and buckets of bodypaint... that's even more impressive. The team at i.d.e.a. came up with this "racy" concept as part of an ad campaign for the Progressive International Motorcycle Show. The designs, which include a dirt bike, sport bike and cruiser, are more trippy than titillating. The dirt bike is the easiest to wrap your head around. In the tastefully SFW cut video below you can see the intense amount of planning and preparation that went into this project.
