New TV Spot for THE HOBBIT Features New Footage!

0
0

Another great TV spot has been released for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and it includes some cool new footage from the film! We've still have a couple months before this movie is released, and I imagine we'll be seeing a lot more of the film before we end up seeing it on the big screen. Damn... I can't wait for that day.

The Hobbit journey begins on December 14th, and continues with The Desolation Of Smaug on December 13th, 2013, and There And Back Again is scheduled to be released July 18th, 2014. Are you looking forward to returning to Middle Earth?

The movie stars Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood, Evangeline LillyAndy Serkis and more.

Here's the Synopsis:

"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever... Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum's "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities... A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

Mark Wahlberg in Talks for TRANSFORMERS 4

0

Apparently director Michael Bay is in early talks with Mark Wahlberg to star in Transformers 4. As talks have just begun nothing is official. Wahlberg and Bay recently worked together on the film Pain and Gain, so it makes sense that they would want to work together again. Wahlberg has that kind of personality that would fit a movie like this. Wahlberg is hit and miss for me with the films he makes, but he's able to bring that everyman feel to the characters he plays. He also is a solid action star that gets people into the theaters.

Transformers 4 is going to be a sequel that I think will end up feeling like a reboot, as there's going to be a whole new cast, and a new gang of robots. It was recently revealed that one of the main characters would be a high school girl, Twitch adds in their report that the story will revolve around an adult character, that character would be the girl's father which might end up being played by Wahlberg. The site goes on to explain that the child "would then grow to be the focus of subsequent entries in the series."

What do you think about the possibility of Wahlberg starring in Transformers 4?

OZ REIMAGINED - 'Oz as You've Never Seen it Before'

0
0

L. Frank Baum's mystical and magical Land of Oz has been re-envisioned again and again. Before the quintessential 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz, which starred Judy Garland, there were nearly a dozen other movie versions made -- doesn't help the 'remakes suck' argument, does it? There are (at least) a couple more new takes coming, with Sam Raimi's Oz The Great and Powerful, and that terrible looking animated feature Dorothy of Oz, which actually boasts an impressive voice cast. There's also the direct sequel that Drew Barrymore was supposed to direct. And, of course, there's Todd McFarlane's long gestating (in his head at least) take on Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz -- the toys are cool though at least.

While we wait for those movie adaptations to come skipping down the Yellow Brick Road, editors John Joseph Adams and Douglas Cohen just sold the anthology Oz Reimagined: New Tales from the Emerald City and Beyond to Amazon's 47North imprint. Expect to see it available next February. Here's the press release teasing the new visions we can expect to see.

In this anthology, the editors have recruited some of today's most popular and talented young adult and fantasy writers and asked them to re-imagine L. Frank Baum's classic creation. In these stories, you will be reintroduced to the world of Oz, but it will be Oz as you've never seen it before. Ever wonder what Emerald City would look with an urban fantasy makeover? Perhaps you want to know the origin of Dorothy's slippers, or maybe you want to know what happened when the Wizard first came to the Land of Oz. What if Dorothy never went to Oz at all, or the Land of Oz was actually a dystopian nightmare? All these scenarios and many more will be found in Oz Reimagined.

At the helm of this project are John Joseph Adams-bestselling editor of more than a dozen science fiction/fantasy anthologies-and Douglas Cohen, former editor of Realms of Fantasy Magazine. Together, they will bring you stories by celebrated authors such as Orson Scott Card, Tad Williams, Jane Yolen, Seanan McGuire, Jonathan Maberry, Simon R. Green, David Farland, and many other terrific talents who have each reinvented Oz with their own unique visions. Along with a foreword by Gregory Maguire-renowned author of Wicked: the Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West-the anthology features a lineup not to be missed.

Baum's original Oz books were always published with beautiful interior illustrations. Given that, it seemed appropriate to do the same for Oz Reimagined. And so we commissioned artist Galen Dara to provide the cover and an original illustration for each story in the book.

Okay, they got some talent behind this. I'll definitely be checking it out when it hits. I'm sure we can expect a few of these to get small screen or big-screen adaptations down the line. Just make Zooey Deschanel star in it (like in the Oz set mini series Tin Man), and I'll preorder my ticket right now.

I don't know if the creepy nurses from Silent Hill turn you on or not, but here's a kinky TV spot for Silent Hill: Revelation 3D that focuses on the nightmarish moaning nurses. This is just such a weird trailer, and I'm curious to know what you think about it after you watch it. If these nurses do turn you on... I'd be worried.

In "Revelation," Heather Mason (Adelaide Clemens) and her father (Sean Bean) have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her forever.

Trailer For Ken Burns' THE CENTRAL PARK FIVE Documentary

0
0

If you haven't seen any of Ken Burns' previous documentary films, you really need to check them out. Some of his work includes The Civil War, Jazz, The War, Baseball, Prohibition, and a ton of others that are worth your time.

His latest documentary project is called The Central Park Five and it explores the 1989 case of five black and Latino teenagers who were convicted of raping a 29-year-old white woman in Central Park. After having spent between 6 and 13 years each in prison, a serial rapist confessed to the crime, and the men falsely accused were released.

Here's the official synopsis:

In 1989, five black and Latino teenagers from Harlem were arrested and later convicted of raping a white woman in New York City’s Central Park. They spent between six and 13 years in prison before a serial rapist confessed that he alone had committed the crime, resulting in their convictions being overturned.

Set against a backdrop of a decaying city beset by violence and racial tension, THE CENTRAL PARK FIVE tells the story of that horrific crime, the rush to judgment by the police, a media clamoring for sensational stories, an outraged public, and the five lives upended by this miscarriage of justice.

I love watching documentaries, I think I've already gone through every one of them that exists on Instant Netflix. And this looks like one of those docs that is a must see. Watch the trailer and tell us what you think.

New International Poster for DJANGO UNCHAINED

Yesterday we brought you a great new international trailer for Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, and today we have a cool new international poster to share with you.

The movie hits theaters on December 25th. I can't wait!

Here's the synopsis:

Set in the South two years before the Civil War, "Django Unchained" stars Academy Award®-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award®-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.

Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.

Django and Schultz’s search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award®-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of “Candyland,” an infamous plantation where slaves are groomed by trainer Ace Woody to battle each other for sport. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award®-nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie's trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival...

THE HOBBIT Running Time and 5 Empire Magazine Covers

Empire Magazine always seems to get the best cover photos for their magazine, and here are five of them for their upcoming Hobbit issue. One of the things revealed in the issue is the running time of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and it looks like it will be Peter Jackson's shortest trip to Middle Earth so far. Jackson explained,

It’s looking like it’s going to be about ten minutes shorter than Fellowship was. So it’s going to be officially our shortest Middle-earth yet. I mean, Fellowship was just under three hours and this is about 2 hours 40 minutes at the moment.

Jackson explained that not all of the effects shots have been completed yet so the running time could go up a little once they are all finished and included in the film.

The epic fantasy adventure is set to be released on December 14th. Check out the rest of the magazine covers below!

Johnny Depp to Star in TRANSCENDENCE

Johnny Depp is in negotiations to star in a film called Transcendence, which is set to be directed by Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister, from a script written by newcomer Jack Paglen.

This will be the first feature film directed by Pfister, but unfortunately, there is absolutely no information on what the movie will be about. It is however being executive produced by Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas. That's got to tell you something about the the kind of film it could be.

Pfister has worked with Nolan on all of his films including Memento, Inception and most recently The Dark Knight Rises

Alcon Entertainment co-founders and co-CEOs Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove state, “Johnny Depp is one of the most charismatic, talented actors imaginable and we are delighted he is with us on this project.”

Pfister states, “I'm thrilled, and feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Johnny. He is a creative and intelligent artist whom I feel will bring great depth to the character and the overall narrative."

It will be interesting to see what comes of this, it's got a very talented team behind it, so it's got to be a really good story.

Twentieth Century Fox has released a new clip from Ang Lee's incredible looking film Life of Pi. The clip features the main character of the film writing a note that he puts into a can and throws into the ocean. It also includes a shot of the tiger that he's stranded with in the movie.

Insane EVIL DEAD Red-Band Trailer is Aliiiiiive!

You've been patiently waiting for it, now here it is... the insanely terrifying red-band trailer to the Evil Dead remake! This is the same trailer we were shown at NYCC.

The movie was directed by Fede Alverez and produced by Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, both of which full heartedly approve of this nightmarishly awesome looking horror film. It stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas and Elizabeth Blackmore.

In the remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

Evil Dead hits theaters on April 12th! Watch the trailer and let us know what you think! Does this sell you on the remake?

Little Greedo By Vincent Bocognani

Here's a t-shirt worthy print to liven up your day! Created by Vincent Bocognani, "Little Greedo" is a hilarious take on the all too famous character featured in the Cantina bar scene in Star Wars Episode IV. I personally think this print would be best done as a four part side by side! You could do this one, one digitally remastered, one where Greedo is shooting first and.... well, I'm out of ideas. Could there even be a fourth one?

Raiders! The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made - Book Trailer

0
0

In 1982 a group of friends set out on a journey to remake Steven Spielberg's Raiders of the Lost Ark, shot for shot. It took them seven years to do it, but it was done. In recent years it's become a huge hit among fanboys and fangirls, who say that this is the greatest fan film ever made.

The fan film is called Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation and was made by Chris Strompolos and Eric Zala. Author Alan Eisenstock found the story behind the making of this film so interesting that he wrote a book detailing the fan film called Raiders! The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made. A great trailer has been released for the book, which is set to be released on November 13th.

Here's the description of the book:

In 1982, in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Chris Strompolos, eleven, asked Eric Zala, twelve, a question: “Would you like to help me do a remake Raiders of the Lost Ark?  I’m playing Indiana Jones.”

And they did it.  Every shot, every line of dialogue, every stunt.

They borrowed and collected costumes, convinced neighborhood kids to wear grass skirts and play natives, cast a fifteen-year-old as Indy’s love interest, rounded up seven thousand snakes (sort of), built the Ark, the Idol, the huge boulder, found a desert in Mississippi, and melted the bad guys’ faces off.

It took seven years.

Along the way, Chris had his first kiss (on camera), they nearly burned down the house and incinerated Eric, lived through parents getting divorced and remarried, and watched their friendship disintegrate.

Alan Eisenstock's Raiders! is the incredible true story of Eric Zala and Chris Strompolos, how they realized their impossible dream of remaking Raiders of the Lost Ark, and how their friendship survived all challenges, from the building of a six-foot round fiberglass boulder to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

I have yet to see the film, but hopefully one day I'll get the chance. Check out the trailer and let us know if this is a book you would pick up to read. One day we might end up seeing a movie based on the lives of these friends, a few years ago their life rights were purchased by producer Scott Rudin.

Tom Hanks showed up on 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon' last night to promote his new sci-fi film Cloud Atlas, and he ended up doing some hilarious slam poetry about the 20-year-old sitcom Full House. It was the last thing I expected from the actor, and that's what made it even more awesome. Enjoy!

UFO Spotted By Several In Pike County Kentucky

Many times before, we've posted videos of supposed UFO sightings that turned out to be a glitch in a camera, or even the work of some video designer. This video is not like any of them. Looks like we have another one of those mass sightings of an odd translucent object, spotted this time above Pike County, Kentucky. While I'm more inclined to think 'secret government aircraft' before anything else, it's really interesting that this thing was spotted by several people in the county -- although it's been said before that after reports flood in of an event, people's memories begin to change, so there's that. What's your take on the story? What's really going on in Pike County, Kentucky?
