INDEPENDENCE DAY 3 Described as "An Intergalactic Journey," Roland Emmerich Teases Plot Details

0
0

I like the first Independence Day as much as the next kid who was twelve when they saw it for the first time, but I heard such awful things about Independence Day: Resurgence that I didn't bother seeing it. (The studio also held its press screenings at 11am the morning after the movie came out, which is a tacit admission they think the film is terrible and are trying to contain negative word of mouth as much as possible.) But despite only making $41 million in the U.S. this past weekend, the movie pulled in over $140 million total worldwide; with a budget of $165 million, there's a chance it could earn enough by the end of its box office run to justify another sequel.

If that ends up happening, director Roland Emmerich is coming back on board. In an interview with Empire, he teased what the plot of Independence Day 3 would be and explained how he would be involved (spoilers for Resurgence ahead):

"The next one will be an intergalactic journey. It'll be [set] maybe a year or two later, not 20 years [on]. I want to maintain this group of people, especially the young characters, and Jeff [Goldblum] and Brent [Spiner] will take part in it. It'll be fun to keep that group together...Will I definitely direct it? Oh yes. I'd never, ever let someone else do it."

Later in the Empire interview, Emmerich elaborated about some of the third film's story elements:

One of Resurgence’s plot threads sees a benevolent alien race pop up in our orbit with news of a giant space civil war. This conflict, a kind of extra-terrestrial version of Anchorman’s news team fight, has aliens teaming up against the space bastards currently threatening Earth. In a possible third part, humanity will be joining that fight. "I imagine them now going in one of these ships they've rebuilt into a wormhole,” explains Emmerich, adding: "I think it'll be the classic of going into space but it has to be about Earth, and we have a really good idea for that."

Did you see Independence Day: Resurgence? What did you think? I understand it ends by setting up a sequel — is Independence Day 3 something you'd want to see?

MAGIC MIKE 3 Will Be A Broadway Musical

0
0

Magic Mike 3 will be happening, according to THR. But star Channing Tatum says not to expect to see the story play out on a big screen, but on Broadway. He explains below:

“The third installment will be the show, and I think it has to evolve past these guys. The first one was about Mike, the second one was about the guys and I think the third one is really about man and woman having a conversation about sex and themselves and who we all are. That’s the next step I would like to take with the story.”

Magic Mike 3 will take two forms on the stage. One will be a traditional Broadway musical, and the other a Las Vegas show. Not much is known about either project except Tatum promises he's eyeing a "very well known director" for the project.

I saw Magic Mike, and I suffered through Magic Mike XXL, and now I think I'm done. The first one at least had an interesting story and stuff and then I watch the second and it's excessive floppy weiners. I daresay the Broadway show will be much the same. I'm sure there will be an audience, though!

DEADPOOL Spoofs Post-Credits Scenes in Japanese Trailer For X-MEN: APOCALYPSE

If you stuck around after the credits of Deadpool, you'll remember the film ended with a Ferris Bueller-esque scene in which Ryan Reynolds' character teased Cable showing up in the sequel. But now the character is back in another post-credits scene, this time in a Japanese trailer for X-Men: ApocalypseEntertainment Weekly pointed us to the trailer, which features Deadpool taking part in the long-time game of pointing out things we may have missed in the trailer.

It's unclear to me why this video is just surfacing now, since Deadpool clearly states that his movie comes out (as in, will come out in the future) in Japan on June 1st. So the video is at least a month old. But hey, Deadpool's gonna Deadpool, and even though I'm one of the few people who didn't like the movie, I was a fan of the movie's marketing campaign, so seeing it continue months after the movie hit theaters is fine with me (and obviously huge Deadpool fans will get a kick out of it).

Jon Bernthal Talks About Punisher and His Upcoming Spin-Off

0

After a stellar season of Daredevil, Jon Bernthal is ready to move onto the Punisher spin-off series. The actor spoke with Deadline about his time on the show and moving forward from there. Unfortunately, he doesn't know much about the spin-off series, other than it's happening and he's not the guy to ask about it:

"I’m tremendously excited about it. I look at it as a real joy and a real responsibility and a real honor to play Frank Castle. I feel like he’s in my bones now and he’s in my heart. I’m ready to keep going with him. As far as what this show’s going to be, and what it’s going to be about, and when it’s going to shoot, and where it’s going to shoot and all that, unfortunately I don’t know anything. It’s kind of part and parcel with the way that Marvel works. Information is definitely on a need to know basis. I am nervous, and I just want to do this character and this world justice."

I felt Bernthal did a tremendous job portraying Frank Castle. They made him an unlikeable asshole, but at the same time, made you invested in what he's doing. To achieve that type of character, Bernthal had to leave his wife and kids and experience that type of isolation from the world. It was something he deemed necessary to effectively play The Punisher:

For me to be at nightclubs and bars and restaurants and hanging out with my kids and just being a happy guy, and being on my phone, turning up on set, playing pretend, that’s not how I work and that’s not how I want to work. So shut off the other things, to shut off the comfort, and to shut off the escape and television and things like that, I think that that’s part of the job. It’s definitely how I worked on with Frank.

I'm glad he gets it. Can't wait to see when this new series actually is coming out!

Review: INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE Sucked Alien Balls

0
0

I’m a huge fan of director Roland Emmerich’s first Independence Day film and I was so excited to see Independence Day: Resurgence. The trailers made the film look like it would at least be fun and provide some form of entertainment. I’m always trying to find the good in movies, and if you’ve read any of my reviews, you know I can be easily entertained. But there are some things I just can’t let slip by, and there are some movies that just piss me off because of a filmmaker’s laziness in telling their stories and building their characters. Independence Day: Resurgence is one of those films.

Fans like myself waited over twenty years for a sequel to Independence Day and I felt like we were given an utter piece of crap. No wonder Will Smith didn’t want to have anything to do with the sequel! The guy knew it was going to be shit. I’m surprised some of the other original actors came back to reprise their roles. With Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, and Brent Spiner all reprising their roles, I thought it would be fun to see their characters back in action. But nope, Emmerich ruined the characters that he created. I felt nothing for them — it’s like they were all empty shells of their former selves. I thought for sure Goldblum would at least be the saving grace of this movie, but he was boring. How in the hell do you make Jeff Goldblum boring!? Emmerich found a way. I know Mae Whitman was a little heartbroken that she wasn’t asked to come back to reprise her role as the President’s daughter Patricia Whitmore, but I think she dodged a bullet and she’s better off not having been in this crapfest.

Then there were the new characters like Liam Hemsworth’s Jake Morrison and Jessie T. Usher’s Dylan Hiller. They were supposed to help lead this movie but I couldn't care less about these characters, which is a problem because you’re supposed to care about them! You’re supposed to care when one of their loved ones dies, but I didn’t. There’s was absolutely no emotional investment in ANY of the characters! There was also no color to their personalities — they were boring monotone characters the whole time!

Will Smith was so damn entertaining in the first movie; he was an incredibly likable and fun character and that film took time to let the audience build a relationship with him. This sequel attempted that but the way it was done and the way the characters were portrayed by the actors was so poor that it just didn’t work. Smith is also a solid actor that has the powerful onscreen presence and talent to actually lead the film. These actors just don't have that "wow" factor. They can't carry a movie.

I know some of you will be like, “I don’t go to see these kinds of movies for the acting.” And I get that, this is a big budget film full of awesome special effects! There were aspects of the film that were cool to look at, I’ll give it that. It definitely delivered some spectacular eye-candy. But for me the eye-candy can only go so far, for me the main meat of whether or not I enjoy a film comes down to story and character because that’s the backbone of a strong movie. The special effects shouldn’t have to drive the movie, the story and characters should.

When it comes to the story and script, I think the story could have been good if the script wasn’t so terribly written and the characters weren’t so poorly developed. There were parts in the film that didn’t make any sense. At one point when during one of the strategizing planning scenes in the movie, someone in the theater yelled out, “What!? That makes no sense!” That was the only time during the movie where anyone in the packed movie theater laughed. Any other kind of humor attempted in the film fell flat with the audience.

Again, I was excited for this movie! I walked in thinking it was going to be an awesome sequel to a favorite film of mine. That obviously didn’t happen, and you can’t accuse me of going into it with a bad attitude because I was 100% pumped up for it! I wanted it to be good, and I expected it to be good. But ultimately I was completely let down and it was an utter disappointment.

I’m sure some of you liked it. I’ve talked to a few people that have, and again, I get that some people go to these kinds of movies purely for the spectacle. But why can’t we have the spectacle as well as a great story, great characters, and a great script? There's nothing wrong with having it all, and I feel cheated when we don't get that.

The first film was fantastic! There was no reason the sequel shouldn’t have been as well, unless it was just lazy writing or rushed, and that’s what I’m going to chalk it up to. This sequel could have been so much better on every level had the script been decent, there'd been better casting, and stronger character development. Independence Day: Resurgence was a waste of an opportunity to do something amazing.

What did you all think of the movie?

Jackie Chan, Michael Pena, Dave Franco, and More Cast in LEGO NINJAGO Movie

I had no idea the Ninjago LEGO franchise was so big! I guess I could've assumed seeing as it had its own TV show, but geez, what a lineup for a children's film! Collider says the LEGO Ninjago film doesn't come out until around 2018, but the cast list has been announced and it's pretty nuts! Take a look:

  • Jackie Chan is Master Wu
  • Dave Franco is Lloyd
  • Michael Peña is Kai
  • Abbi Jacobson is Nya
  • Kumail Nanjiani is Jay
  • Zach Woods is Zane
  • Fred Armisen is Cole

The movie itself is being written by the writers behind the Cartoon Network series and the team of directors includes Tron: Uprising's Charlie Bean. I was a HUGE fan of the Tron: Uprising series, so that alone has me excited for this project! The rest is just icing on the cake!

For the sake of the fools who clicked this, I'll still show mercy and not go into detail as to what happens in this hilarious Overwatch parody featuring Cersei Lannister. For the rest of you, enjoy this well-done parody below!

MORGAN Trailer: You Won't Like Her When She's Angry

Here's the first full trailer for Morgan, a new sci-fi movie from Ridley Scott's son Luke that follows a secret experiment gone wrong. The premise seems pretty familiar, but a lot of times with movies like this, it's all in the execution. This trailer doesn't necessarily convince me that the film is going to be great, but if nothing else, this movie has a stacked cast that includes Kate Mara, Anya Taylor-Joy, Toby Jones, Rose Leslie, Boyd Holbrook, Michelle Yeoh, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Paul Giamatti, so maybe that alone will be reason to check it out.

Morgan hits theaters on September 2, 2016.

A corporate troubleshooter (Kate Mara) is sent to a remote, top-secret location, where she is to investigate and evaluate a terrifying accident. She learns the event was triggered by a seemingly innocent “human,” who presents a mystery of both infinite promise and incalculable danger.

Woman Successfully Sues Microsoft For Windows 10 Upgrade Ruining Her Computer

In the wake of people around the world raging out about forced Windows 10 upgrades, a woman has actually won a court settlement against Microsoft for "making" her download the OS. ExtremeTech says Teri Goldstein of California has successfully sued Microsoft for $10,000 after a Windows 10 update rendered her PC inoperable for several days. The cost was reached after figuring the cost towards a new PC and how it affected her life.

Personally, I don't see the huge deal with Windows 10. I have it on my computer and I like it way more than what I had before. I think the issue has to be with some people not allowing the download to fully complete. What's your take?

Intriguing Trailer For THE 9TH LIFE OF LOUIS DRAX

Summit has released the first trailer for The 9th Life of Louis Drax, the new film adaptation of the best-selling novel by Liz Jensen. I've never heard of the book and had no idea this movie existed until now, but the trailer does a great job of laying out its central mystery and hinting at some bizarre, almost supernatural elements that made me extremely curious.

Aaron Paul, Sarah Gadon, Jamie Dornan, Oliver Platt, and Aiden Longworth star, and The 9th Life of Louis Drax hits theaters on September 2, 2016.

After surviving eight near-death accidents throughout his unlucky life, Louis Drax [Aiden Longworth] plunges off a steep cliff on his ninth birthday. While police investigate the cause of Louis' near-fatal fall and the whereabouts of his violent father Peter [Aaron Paul], acclaimed neurologist Dr. Allan Pascal [Jamie Dornan] uses unorthodox techniques to try to tap into the boy's unconscious mind and reveal the truth about the events that led to his condition. But as he's drawn deeper and deeper into the mystery of Louis' seeming ability to cheat death, the doctor finds himself falling for Louis' mother, Natalie [Sarah Gadon]. As new clues emerge in the case, a shocking revelation changes the fates of Louis Drax and everyone around him.

Relive The Highlights of GAME OF THRONES Season 6 With These Gifs

0
0

By: Aaron Goins

The sixth season of Game of Thrones was full of huge moments: epic battles, character deaths, betrayals, alliances, even a little time travel. There were too many great moments to list them all, so I picked ten, one from each episode. Spoilers ahead!

Brienne To The Rescue

In the season opener “The Red Woman,” we were shown that Jon Snow was very much dead, and they were going to leave him that way for a bit. We saw a lot of death and a change of leadership in Dorne. Melisandre was revealed...in a different way than we had seen her revealed before.

But the moment that makes the list is Brienne fulfilling her desire to protect and serve another Stark. She showed up just in time to save Sansa and Theon from the fate of being brought back to the maniac Ramsay Bolton. With the help of Podrick, and even a little from Theon Greyjoy, Brienne fought off their pursuers. This allowed her to once again offer her sword to Sansa.

Don't Eat The Help

In “Home,” Jon Snow is still dead. Ramsay Bolton killed his dad and baby brother in ways that only Ramsay could. Balon Greyjoy also met his end at his brother’s hand. By the end of the episode, Jon was resurrected.

You may think Jon Snow taking his first breath would be the hands down top moment of the episode, but something else really stood out to me. Tyrion’s interaction with the dragons was so good. His fear was real, but his awe of the creatures eclipsed his fear. Tyrion’s story of wanting a little dragon of his own was perfect as he set the creatures free.

Sword of The Morning

In the previous episode, we saw Bran’s ability to experience the past with the help of the Three-Eyed Raven. In “Oathbreaker,” we got to see him use that ability again, but in a more exciting way. He brought us to the place where his father faced off against Ser Arthur Dayne in the legendary battle. The fight lived up to expectation but had an ending that surprised Bran. And just when we thought a popular fan theory would be proven, Bran woke up.

Trial By Fire

As the Lannisters and Tyrells continued to spar with the High Sparrow in “Book of the Stranger,” Dany is a prisoner of the Dothraki. Her fate seemed to be that she would have to retire with the other khal widows, but that wasn’t going to work for the Mother of Dragons. Instead, she set the khals’ tent on fire, killing them all, and taking her place as Khaleesi once again.

Hold The Door

“The Door” revealed to us the origin of the White Walkers. I never trusted those creepy Children of the Forest. Bran also made the mistake of being touched by the Night King during a vision. This ended up being a huge mistake which led to the deaths of the remaining Children, the Three-Eyed Raven, and Summer the direwolf.

The big moment of the episode was the reveal that Hodor’s name and catchphrase was just a slurred version of “hold the door.” Holding the door was his last act of bravery and allowed Meera and Bran to escape.

Holy Alliance

In “Blood of My Blood,” Sam took Gilly home to meet his parents. His mom seemed nice enough, but his dad could have worked on his manners. Gilly stood up to Lord Tarly and Sam had enough. Sam, Gilly, and child left in the night, but not before Sam took the sword that was rightfully his.

The return of Benjen Stark and Dany’s inspirational speech were other big moments in this episode, but the game changer was the High Sparrow getting the advantage in his chess match against Cersei. Just when Jaime thought he was going to put the zealot in his place, the High Sparrow revealed his latest convert.

Return of The Hound

This I did not see coming. When Sandor Clegane was beaten by Brienne and left for dead by Arya, I thought we would never see him again. Imagine my surprise when he showed up helping a cute little community of villagers.

Other big moments in “The Broken Man,” were the negotiation with Lyanna Mormont and the surprise stabbing of Arya Stark.

In The Dark

“No One” gave us the reuniting of Brienne and Jaime at Riverrun and the eventual death of The Blackfish. The Brotherhood Without Banners made a return and crossed paths with Sandor Clegane. The Brotherhood and the Hound have no current allegiances, so it will be interesting to see how they play into the upcoming war.

Arya sought the help of Lady Crane, but couldn’t hide from the waif for long. An exciting chase through Braavos led to Arya setting a trap for the waif. All that blind training really came in handy.

Face Your Mistakes

“Battle of The Bastards” was packed full of huge moments. I could almost make a list of ten from this episode alone: Dany making a pact with the Greyjoys, Rickon Stark taking an arrow to the heart, Ramsay Bolton finally getting what was coming to him...to name just a few.

Visually, the moment that really stuck out to me was Jon Snow standing alone on the battlefield facing down the charging horses of the Bolton army. Sure, it was his impulsiveness and bad decision-making that led him to his likely death, but it made for a great hero pose.

Beyond The Sea

The explosive season finale “The Winds of Winter” set the stage for what is to come in Game of Thrones. House Frey joined House Bolton in being nearly eliminated from the game. Cersei blew up the Sept, taking out the young Tyrells, the High Sparrow, and most of his forces. Tommen jumped out of a window, leaving the throne open to his mom. Jon Targary—I mean Snow was proclaimed the King of the North. Everyone else seemed to be Team Daenerys. The season ended with a fantastic view of dragons and ships crossing the Narrow Sea.

What were your favorite moments from this season?

No Strictly News this week, we will be back for some news on July 4th. While the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie produced by Michael Bay wasn't good by any stretch of the imagination, we didn't actively hate it as much as, say, something like the Transformers series. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has released a new "Academy Originals" video, and this one focuses on Howard Berger, a special makeup effects artist who's worked on some huge movies like From Dusk Till Dawn, Scream, Mulholland Drive, Sin City, The Chronicles of Narnia, and tons more. Berger shows us the process of creating prosthetics for a movie monster from the earliest steps all the way through to the final product, and it's a cool little step-by-step of how it's done for those of you who are interested in this aspect of film production.

Ansel Elgort Is in Talks to Star in DUNGEONS & DRAGONS

0
0

Ansel Elgort is a rising star in Hollywood who has appeared in films such as the Divergent trilogy and The Fault in Our Stars, which I thought he did a great job in. The young actor is currently in negotiations to take on what would be the biggest role of his career so far. It looks like there's a good a chance that he will take on the lead role in Warner Bros. big screen adaptation of Dungeons & Dragons

The movie will be directed by Rob Letterman, who is behind such films as Shark Tale, Goosebumps, and Gulliver's Travels. Letterman doesn't spark a lot of confidence in the project, but the script for the action adventure fantasy film was written by David Leslie Johnson (The Conjuring 2). I just hope Letterman doesn't cast Jack Black in the movie.

I think Elgort is a solid actor, and this could be an awesome project for him. There's  no word on who exactly he'll be playing, but the story is said to center on "a warrior and his band of mystical creatures as they embark on a dangerous journey to find a mythical treasure." Vin Diesel is a long time fan of the Dungeons & Dragons game, and he has expressed interest in being a part of the project as well.

When previously talking about the film project, WB executive Greg Silverman said it would be like Guardians of the Galaxy set in Middle Earth:

“This new Dungeons & Dragons will be a Guardians of the Galaxy-tone movie in a Tolkien-like universe. Because when you think of all the Hobbit movies and The Lord of the Rings, they have an earnestness to them, and to see something fun, a Raiders romp inside that world, I feel is something the audience has not seen before.”

Apparently, everyone working on the film is a fan of the game, especially the writer, so hopefully he manages to provide a solid script for the director to work off of. I'm curious to see how audiences react to this film because as awesome as I thought Duncan Jones' Warcraft was, American audiences didn't really seem to care for it. Dungeons & Dragons is in the same fantasy genre realm, only it doesn't have as good of a director as Warcraft did. Should be interesting.

Ansel has a couple of other upcoming films that he's completed already, including Edgar Wright's Baby Driver and James Cox's Billionaire Boys Club.

GAME OF THRONES Characters Decked Out in STAR WARS Costumes

Since the aesthetics of Game of Thrones and Star Wars are so different, it'd be pretty tough to create a video mashup of the two properties that makes sense outside of lightsaber battles (three of which you can check out here, here, and here). But fan art is a different story, and artist Andrew Dat Tran has created some spectacular pieces that imagine GOT character dressed in Star Wars garb from a galaxy far, far away.

There's Tyrion as Han, Arya as a Jedi Padawan, the Night King as a Sith Lord, and more. Check them all out below, support the artist right here, and let us know which one is your favorite.

The TETRIS Film Trilogy Is Being Planned as a Big Sci-Fi Epic

0
0

I don’t know how Tetris is going to be the epic sci-fi film that the studio hopes it will be, but producer Larry Kasanoff says that they have a plan. The producer confirms that the trilogy is really being planned and that the reason it will be a trilogy is because the story they came up with is so big. When asked by Empire if Tetris was really getting a trilogy Kasanoff said:

"That’s correct and purely because the story we conceived is so big. This isn’t us splitting the last one of our eight movies in two to wring blood out of the stone. It’s just a big story."

Kasanoff has produced some high-profile films in his day, which include True Lies, Mortal Kombat, Strange Days, and Beowulf. It will be interesting to see what kind of creative team he brings together for the Tetris movie, but one thing he wants to point out is that the film won’t just involve weirdly shaped blocks battling each other. He explains:

"We’re not going to have blocks with feet running around the movie, but it’s great that people think so. It sets the bar rather low! We want the story to be a surprise, but it’s a big science-fiction movie. I came up with the idea as I was thinking about Tetris and the theme of creating order out of chaos. I guarantee you it’s not what you think. No-one has come remotely close to figuring out what we’re doing."

Well, I’m glad they have a game plan, and I’m curious to see what they have come up with that makes their Tetris story such a sweeping three movie epic. I’m still not excited for the movie, though. They’ll probably make the first film, it will tank at the box office, and we will never see another attempt to make a Tetris movie again.

Wouldn't it be crazy, though, if this did turn out to be an awesome and successful film?

Steven Spielberg on Making THE BFG a Magical Moviegoing Experience

0
0

I recently had the opportunity to attend a press event for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming film The BFG, and I got to meet him, which is probably one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had. I really enjoyed his new film, especially because it has that charming Spielberg filmmaking Amblin magic that we haven’t seen in awhile from the director. Making The BFG was a passion project for Spielberg, and I think he delivered a film that his fans and audiences will enjoy.

If you’ve ever read Roald Dahl’s The BFG, then you know there are some amusing scenes involving farts. One of the first questions out of the gate during the interview with Spielberg was if this was the first fart joke he’s ever put on film to which he replied:

“Yeah, it took me a long time. It took me a long time. I don’t know, I guess… I guess I’m kind of modest when it comes to flatulence, except when it’s being done by either giants, or Corgis. I’ve gotten over my modesty.”

Spielberg has always been a great storyteller, and with this film, he’s using modern technology to tell his story. What he and Weta have come up with turns out to be quite beautiful. I’ve talked to a few people about the CGI that they’ve seen in the trailers and how they feel it doesn’t look that good. I thought the effects were incredible, especially with The BFG character. I wouldn’t be surprised if Mark Rylance, who plays the character, got nominated for some best acting awards. When asked about how he finds balance between pushing technology forward and still keeping the humanity and heart of the storytelling, Spielberg said:

“Well, I think that the whole nature of my approach to the BFG was to be able to do both, was to be able to use technology to advance the heart, and create a flawless transposition between the genius of Mark Rylance, to the genius of Weta, as they were able to digitally translate Mark’s soul onto film in the character of the BFG. So all the work we did was to get back to basics, which was, I knew Mark was gonna really knock this out of the ballpark, but I didn’t want the ball to land at the end of a motion capture volume. I wanted the ball to land in the lap of the audience, and I think Weta spent more careful attention, paid more careful attention to how to preserve what Mark had given us on the day. Their artists did an amazing job translating Mark accurately, and there’s about 95% of what Mark gave me, and Ruby, on the screen now, and that’s because technology today allowed us to do it. Five years ago, we could not have made BFG this way, the technology wasn’t there for it.”

We went on to talk about how the story of The BFG is in line with some of his earlier film like E.T. in that it centers on a young child who meets a strange and mysterious creature and forms a bond with it. When asked what made him come back to tell this kind of story again, Spielberg replied:

“What really appealed to me was the fact that the protagonist was a girl, not a boy. And it was a very strong girl, and the protagonist was going to allow us at a certain point, to believe that four feet tall can completely outrank 25 feet of giant. And I got very excited that this was going to be a little girl’s story, and her courage, and her values, was going to, in a way, turn the cowardly lion into the brave hero at the end - which is what she turns BFG into. I saw all kinds of Wizard of Oz comparisons when I was first reading the book, and I said, “Oh, here’s a real chance to do a story about Dorothy and the Cowardly Lion, just the two of them.”

Spielberg has always had a knack for casting incredibly talented kids in his films, but according to the director, casting the role of Sophie was one of the hardest things he’s ever had to do. He found his Sophie in actress Ruby Barnhill:

“Casting Ruby was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do because she’s so impossible as you can see, sitting right here, you know. I love her. Nina Gold looked at three or four hundred girls, in about five English speaking countries.  And I looked at about 150 myself.  And when I saw Ruby’s reading, I went crazy, ‘cause I had been looking for over half a year, actually, longer, eight months, I had been looking, and we’d get the Ireland tapes in; then we’d get the New Zealand tapes in; then we’d get the Australian tapes in; we’d get the Wales tapes; and we’d get the English tapes in; and the American tapes in.  And we’d be looking, and looking, and looking.  And I was shooting Bridge of Spies, and I thought I was never going to find my Sophie - until halfway through the Berlin shoot, which was almost done with the [Bridge of Spies] movie, when I saw Ruby’s reading and I immediately went crazy.”

Ruby was incredibly charming in the role of Sophie and a perfect choice. The relationship between her and Mark Rylance's BFG was beautiful. When talking about his favorite part of the film involving those two characters the filmmaker said:

“I think my favorite part of the filming was when BFG and Sophie were chasing dreams in Dream Country; they were catching dreams and she was just… BFG says to Sophie, “Use your titchy little figglers. Go on,” you know. So she just starts chasing dreams and we had a whole set built. That was a big, big set with these big, a whole root system of big roots deep into the ground, and she gets to run under all the roots, to chase the dreams.  And of course, there were no dreams there; there were just a lot of lights on sticks, that you didn’t get to see. But that was a fun four or five days, that whole sequence, chasing dreams and talking about dreams, that was my favorite part.”

Spielberg went on to say that The BFG is one of the best companies of people that he’s ever worked with in his career. It was such a great experience for him that it's in his top five!

“It was a great company. I mean, I’ve had a lot of companies. I’ve shot… what, this is my 30th movie? 29th or 30th movie, I think, I’m not sure. I’ve had a lot of great companies. This is my in the top five of my favorite companies, ensembles that I’ve ever worked with, this is in my top five.”

You can tell from seeing the film that Spielberg was having a great time working on it. There was just so much heart and soul put into bringing this story to life, and Spielberg managed to bring together an incredibly talented cast and crew to do it.

My review of the film will go live later this week, so keep an eye out for it. I think it’s one of the best family films to come out so far this year.

Mark Hamill Maybe Revealed Whether Luke Skywalker Will Return for STAR WARS: EPISODE IX

For those of you who are wondering if Mark Hamill will reprise his role of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode IX, the actor may have accidentally let the answers slip. If you don’t want to know whether or not Skywalker makes it through Episode VIII alive, I suggest you don’t read ahead.

While interviewing Ray Davies at a special event in London over the weekend, Hamill told the crowd:

“I finish Episode VIII, and then I’m out of work.”

That sounds to me like we won’t see Luke continue his journey in Episode IX. Maybe Hamill he meant to say, ““I finish Episode VIII, and then I’m out of work… for the time being.” But who knows. Lucasfilm didn’t have any issue killing off Han Solo in the last film. Maybe Luke is the next main character to go down in a blaze of glory?

If Luke was killed off it would truly hit fans hard. I don’t want to see Luke die anytime soon. I'd like to see him live through the saga and make it to Yoda status before he gives up the (force) ghost on his own. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see when Star Wars: Episode VIII is released on December 15th, 2017.

Marvel movie concept artist Andy Park has released a new piece of concept art for Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch from Captain America: Civil War, and as you can see she is sporting her iconic headband. The headband obviously wasn't used in the movie, but who knows, maybe it will be included in her outfit the next time we see her, which will most likely be in Avengers: Infinity War. It really doesn't matter if she has it or not, but it is a cool little accessory.
