Marvel Announces ANT-MAN Release Date!

Marvel Studios and Disney have officially announced that Edgar Wright's Ant-Man will be released in theaters on November 6th 2015! That's six months after Joss Whedon's Avengers 2 will be released which is on May 1st, 2015.

Ant-Man has been in development for so long that we knew it was going to eventually happen, especially after the studio showed off some awesome test footage for the movie at San Diego Comic Con earlier this year that the crowd flipped over.

Wright is expected to direct the film from a script he co-wrote with Joe Cornish (Attack the Block).

It was also announced that Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World will be released in 3D, which isn't very surprising news at all. I think from here on out we can expect all Marvel movies to be released in 3D.

Disney also set a release date for Saving Mr. Banks on December 20th, 2013.

Are you excited to hear that Ant-Man is officially on the way?! Now when are we going to get Dr. Strange?!

Gerard Butler Surfs in CHASING MAVERICKS - 5 TV Spots

Five new TV spots have been released for the solid looking surfing film Chasing Mavericks. The film tells the true life story of surfer Jay Moriarty, played by Jonny Weston. Moriarty was trained to ride the big waves of Northern California's Mavericks by Rick "Frosty" Hesson played by Gerard Butler. The movie also stars Elisabeth Shue, Leven Rambin and Abigail Spencer. As a surfer and fan of the sport and its history I'm excited for this movie!

Here's the Synopsis:

The inspirational true story of real life surfing phenom Jay Moriarty. When 15 year old Jay discovers that the mythic Mavericks surf break, one of the biggest waves on Earth, is not only real, but exists just miles from his Santa Cruz home, he enlists the help of local legend Frosty Hesson to train him to survive it. As Jay and Frosty embark on their quest to accomplish the impossible, they form a unique friendship that transforms both their lives, and their quest to tame Mavericks becomes about far more than surfing.

It's set hits theaters on October 26th. Are you a fan of surfing? If so, what other legendary surfer would you like to see a movie about? Enjoy the latest trailers! Watch the spots and let us know if you think the movie looks worth seeing or not.

Here's a detailed background of Jay Moriarty from surfline:

In a dozen short years, from the first time he paddled a surfboard out at Santa Cruz until his untimely death from a free-diving accident in the Maldives, Jay Moriarty earned a reputation in the sport that will prevail indefinitely. His much-heralded big-wave exploits and longboard expertise only dabble the first few brushstrokes of a life lived as a masterpiece. In an earlier era, Moriarty would have been just one of the boys, but to contrast his waterman's spirit with that of other modern professional surfers, his clear vision offers a much-needed dose of fresh air. His infectious smile and sense of humility defined him, and in death they continue to spread out from his Northern California playground to each corner of the world.

Born in Georgia, James Michael Moriarty soon relocated to Santa Cruz. His father Doug, and Airborne Ranger, instilled in the young lad a sense for adventure and introduced him to surfing as an 11-year-old tike at Sewer Peak. According to Jay, "When I started I didn't have a wetsuit. I just had shorts and a t-shirt that I wore. And I had a 7'0" Haut, a little pintail, like a three-inch-thick '70s board. I was unequipped and clueless but I didn't give a shit. It was just so much fun."

The following year, Moriarty discovered his calling during, of all things, an NSSA shortboard contest at Pleasure Point. In double-overhead surf, the 12-year-old was the only kid to make it out, winning the event and realizing his affinity for big surf. Shortly thereafter, he chanced across a wizened elder local named Rick "Frosty" Hesson in the midst of a rant about the newly-ordained jewel of California surfing, Maverick's. After much prodding from the indomitable young Moriarty, the former lifeguard and collegiate swimmer agreed to prepare him for his future. Jay was determined to conquer Maverick's, but not before Hesson engaged him in a program of intense mental and physical training.

Meanwhile, Moriarty also gained a reputation as a solid longboard competitor despite ridicule from the local shortboard contingent. Inspired by traditionalists Robert "Wingnut" Weaver and Kevin Miske, he became not so much of a full-time longboarder, but an amazingly adaptable surfer, able to switch seamlessly between all manner of waveriding equipment. Nurtured in the surf clubs around Santa Cruz, he developed an appreciation for all forms of surfing, but mostly for the ocean itself. He became an accomplished swimmer, diver, paddler and fisherman. Eventually, his easygoing nature disarmed even the harshest of critics.

As winter approached each year his attention turned north to Maverick's. Still unknown outside of Santa Cruz as of December 19, 1994, the 16-year-old pizza parlor employee made his way to the burgeoning spot during the most consistent week in its history. Barely into the takeoff zone, he swung around and launched himself into what would be called the most spectacular wipeout ever caught on film, landing straight on the cover of Surfer magazine. Fortunately, his diligent training saw him through unscathed, and he continued on course as the most promising big-wave teen on earth.

The instant fame did nothing to derail the happy-go-lucky kid, instead providing opportunity for him to spread his good will to a wider audience. Suddenly, all the world knew about the humble young waterman. At the request of Moriarty's primary sponsor, O'Neill, he joined Wingnut and fellow big-wave maestro Richard Schmidt as instructors for the O'Neill Surf Academy, visiting eight European countries each summer and instructing some 50 surfers each week. He spent his down time riding motocross and jumping from airplanes, having successfully completed over 100 skydives. At Maverick's he continued to fall from the sky on a regular basis, demonstrating uncanny wave knowledge and control of the situation. Still in his early 20's, he had secured a prime spot in the heavy lineup, impressing local pioneer Jeff Clark enough to be chosen as his tow partner.

Moriarty planned on a future as a firefighter, having completed his EMT training at Cabrillo College, but he would get no closer toward his goal. The day before his 23rd birthday, Jay drowned while free-diving alone off the Lohifushi Island resort in the Maldives, where he was visiting for a photo shoot. He had planned to meet his wife of less than one year, Kim, and begin his fourth season, this time as head instructor, for the O'Neill Academy through Europe. On June 26, a memorial service drew at Pleasure Point drew hundreds of well-wishers as Kim spread his ashes back into the ocean. Those in attendance contend that despite the tragic loss, it was not so much of a mourning as a celebration of his incomparable positive attitude towards life.

Christoph Waltz to Play Mikhail Gorbachev in REYKJAVIK

$

Inglourious Basterds star Christoph Waltz has been cast alongside Michael Douglas in Harry Potter director Mike Newell's next film Reykjavik. Waltz will play former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev in the story, and Douglas wil be playing Ronald Reagan.

The film tells the true story about the meeting between US president Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev in 1986, which helped bring about the end of the Cold War. It's set against the backdrop of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

The Reykjavík Summit meeting was held in the famous house of Höfði in Reykjavík, the capital city of Iceland in 1986. The talks collapsed at the last minute, but the progress that had been achieved eventually resulted in the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty between the United States and the Soviet Union.

Both these actors were perfectly cast in the film, and I have no doubt we are going to see a couple of amazing performances! The next film we'll see Waltz in is Quentin Tarantiono's Django Unchained. What are your thoughts on Waltz taking on the part of Gorbachev?

Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Josh Holloway up For Roles in CAPTAIN AMERICA 2

Marvel is currently in the process of casting the roles of the lead female character and the villain in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  It was previously revealed that Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Jessica Brown Findlay (Downtown Abbey), Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies), Alison Brie (Community) and Imogen Poots (Fright Night) were all up for the role of Steve Rogers' love interest in the movie. But apparently there's one other actress that Marvel really wants to cast. According to Latino-Review The Thing and Scott Pilgrim star Mary Elizabeth Winstead is in the lead and may just end up being the actresses to land the role.

I'm a fan of Winstead and her work, she's a great actress, and out of everyone up for the role I hope she's the one that ends up taking it. She most recently starred in an indie film called Smashed, which might just land her an Academy Award nomination.

It's assumed that the lead female character will be Sharon Carter, the niece of Margaret "Peggy" Carter who was played by Hayley Atwell in the first Captain America film. It was revealed in an Avengers deleted scene featuring Rogers that Peggy is alive and well in the UK. Her niece is a love interest for Rogers in the comics.

The site goes on to report that LOST's Josh Holloway and Game of ThronesNikolaj Coster Waldau, will be testing for a villainous role in the movie. There's no word on who that villain will be though.

It was previously announced that Anthony Mackie will be playing The Falcon in the movie, and that Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow will show up to kick some ass.

I can't wait to see how this Captain America sequel turns out! What do you think about all this potential casting news?

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Character Focus

$

According to a recent report from reputable Marvel source Latino-Review, Marvel and director James Gunn are looking to put a major focus on three characters in the Gaurdians of the Galaxy movie. Those three characters include Star-Lord, Gamora and Drax The Destroyer. The characters will be getting visual and backstory updates and expansions that will help bring them fit better into the Marvel movie universe.

We already knew Star-Lord was going to have a major role, the plot description that was released said the movie follows “a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone want."

It also makes sense that Gamora and Drax would have major roles in the story, especially since Thanos is expected to be the main villain. "Gamora was adopted by Thanos and Drax was a man whose consciousness was transferred into the Drax body with the express purpose to kill the Mad Titan at the behest of Kronos." I was kind of hoping Rocket Racoon would have a big role in the story as well. I think that character has the potential to be just as popular in this movie as The Hulk was in The Avengers

It's also speculated that the Universal Conflict mentioned in the short summary could be Nova corps because Marvel can't use Skrulls or Kree. It was pointed out by fans that the official concept art for the movie has Nova stars in the background, which is something I completely overlooked.

I'm looking forward to seeing Gunn's twisted take on this comic! Who are your favorite characters in the Guardians of the Galaxy universe? What do you think about the characters that the movie will focus on?

Aaron Paul feels the NEED FOR SPEED

Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul has found his next feature film project. THR reports that he is set to star in Need for Speed for DreamWorks Pictures. There are no specific details about his role at this time, so stay tuned to GeekTyrant for further details as the story develops.

Are you a fan of Breaking Bad? Would you like to see Paul in the lead role?

Here's some information about the project from an earlier press release:

DreamWorks Studios has acquired the feature film rights to EA’s (NASDAQ: EA) popular video game franchise, Need for Speed™, it was announced jointly today by DreamWorks CEO and Co-Chair Stacey Snider and EA President of Studios Frank Gibeau.

Brothers George and John Gatins developed the original story with George writing the feature’s screenplay. The screenplay is based on the Need for Speed series, but is not based on an individual game. EA will produce along with John Gatins and Mark Sourian. Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) is attached to direct, and the project will be fast-tracked at DreamWorks with a target production start date for early next year, for a 2014 release.

The film adaptation will be a fast-paced, high-octane film rooted in the tradition of the great car culture films of the 70s while being extremely faithful to the spirit of the video game franchise. In Need for Speed, the cars are hot, the racing is intense and the story keeps players at the edge of their seat.

“I'm excited about getting back into the creative trenches with John and George Gatins and my partners at EA to bring to life an exhilarating script based on an epic video game that seems to have been made for the movies,” said Steven Spielberg, DreamWorks Chairman. “This is a big piece of business for DreamWorks and we are grateful to Frank Gibeau, Pat O'Brien, Kevin Maher and John and George for choosing us to deliver their goods.”

“George, John and EA brought a very compelling story to us which we believe is going to make a fun, cool movie franchise,” said Stacey Snider, CEO and Co-Chair of DreamWorks. “With such a large following around the globe, we're excited to make a film that does justice to the popular underlying video game series.”

“We are thrilled to be in business with our friends Steven Spielberg, Stacey Snider and the entire DreamWorks team,” said Frank Gibeau, President of EA Labels. “They are the perfect partner to takeNeed for Speed to the big screen by creating the exciting action film that we have always envisioned.”

“It’s fantastic to be working with a team that shares not only our love of cars, but also our passion for creating blockbuster action experiences. This collaboration will be greatly enhanced with the team at DreamWorks – which is a great home for the Need for Speed franchise,” said Patrick Soderlund, Executive Vice President, EA Games Label.  Added Pat O’Brien, Vice President of EA Entertainment: “Working with John and George to develop the script has truly been an outstanding experience.”

Need for Speed is the premier racing game in the video game industry and one of EA’s best-selling video game franchises. Since the release of the first title, the series has sold more than 140 million units worldwide, generating an estimated $4 billion in retail revenue, making it one of the biggest franchises in video gaming.

Need for Speed serves as a reunion with both George Gatins and John Gatins with DreamWorks.  George was an executive producer on the studio’s 2010 film “She’s Out of My League.” John’s previous projects with DreamWorks include the 2005 film “Dreamer” which he wrote and directed. He also wrote the script for last year’s “Real Steel” and has been working on the script for its sequel. He recently wrote the script for “Flight” which will be released by Paramount later this year.

Both EA and John and George Gatins are represented by UTA, who negotiated the deal.

Hugo Weaving is Done with Red Skull

I don't know about you, but I loved Hugo Weaving as Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger! It would have been cool to see the character show up again somewhere in the Marvel movie universe. But if Marvel wants Weaving back in the role they are going to have to force him, even though he's under contract for multiple films, because he simply doesn't want to do it again.

Here's what the actor had to say in a recent interview with Collider, the actor explains that he has absolutely no desire to reprise his role as Red Skull:

I think the tendency, with those films, would be to probably not bring a villain back. They might for The Avengers, but I didn't think I'd be in Captain America 2 or 3. I don't think Red Skull will be there. And it's not something I would want to do again. I'm glad I did it. I did sign up for a number of pictures and I suppose, contractually, I would be obliged to, if they forced me to, but they wouldn't want to force someone to do it, if they didn't want to. I think I've done my dash with that sort of film. It was good to do it and try it out, but to be honest, it's not the sort of film I seek out and really am excited by. As an actor, to do all sorts of different films is great. It stretches you in different ways. But, I increasingly like to go back to what I used to always do, which is to get involved with projects that I really have a personal affiliation with.

It's a little sad that Weaving doesn't want to play red Skull again. I don't think Marvel had any plans to bring the villain back any time soon anyway, so I guess it doesn't really matter. If they do eventually bring Red Skull back, it sounds like it will be with another actor.

What do you think about Weaving not wanting to ever play Red Skull again?

A ROGER RABBIT 2 Script has Been Completed

$

While promoting his latest film, Flight, director Robert Zemeckis gave an update on his Roger Rabbit sequel revealing that a script for it has been completed. He told Showbiz411 that regardless of actor Bob Hoskin's retirement he still wants to move forward with the movie,

I have a script at Disney, and we’re just waiting for all the executive changes to settle down there.

We've been hearing about the possibility of a Roger Rabbit 2 for a few years now, and it's starting to sound like things are shaping up. This movie could actually happen. According to previous reports, the plan is to make it a CG animated live action hybrid. In my opinion, the first Roger Rabbit is the best movie to ever incorporate a live action animation mix.

Zemeckis has been trying to get a sequel off ground for years, and even did some 3D test animation back in 1998 for it. The reason it's been taking so long to get up on the big screen is because Spielberg owns half the rights to the franchise, and apparently in one of the versions of the script Nazis were going to be the comedic villains. This happened after he made the movie Schindler's List, and told them that Nazis would never be comic villains in anything he was involved in.

Now that Spielberg has a stronger relationship with Disney, the possibility of Roger Rabbit 2 happening is a lot bigger. Are you excited to see a Roger Rabbit sequel?

Skyfall has been getting some great reviews! Several critics are saying that director Sam Mendes has made the best James Bond film ever! Good grief, I hope that statement is true! I love everything I've seen from the movie so far, and here's another great clip from the film featuring Daniel Craig and Javier Bardem facing off. It gives you a taste of how crazy the villain is in this film.

The movie also stars Dame Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCrory, Ola Rapace and Tonia Sotiropoulou. It hits theaters in the US on November 9th, 2012 and in the UK on October 26th. Enjoy the latest clip!

Deleted scenes from Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man have arrived online which show some shots from the trailers that never made it into the final film. Included is a shot of Irrfan Khan asking Parker “do you have any idea what you really are?” The clip gives insight into a plotline that tied Peter Parker’s father to the superhero Peter eventually becomes. If you recall, the early marketing for the film was pushing the "Untold Story", and this scene does a bit to bolster that, a first for the Spidey mythos. Stay tuned for more clips like this with The Amazing Spider-Manlaunching on Blu-ray November 9.

New Line Cinema has released a new minute-long international Chinese TV spot for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Tolkien's Middle Earth universe to tell this story!

The first part of this highly anticipated Hobbit trilogy will be released on December 14th. You already know how excited I am for this movie, and I know you're excited, so enjoy the new TV spot!

Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. The legacy of the "Universal Monsters" cannot be overstated.  The films of the 1930s & 40s gave rise to cinema's modern horror genre with Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolf Man, The Mummy and more continually reintroduced to each generation.  "Few film franchises have persevered as well over time as the Universal Monsters have. There's just something so dynamic and special about the characters. We've done our very best to work with artists that really believe in the importance of these films. I do not thinkmonster fans will be disappointed," said Mondo's Mitch Putnam.

"The iconographic imagery found in these classic films has provided me with inspiration and a bizarre comfort throughout my life.  There is a dark vibration that still emanates from these classic Universal Monsters.  It's fascinating to see how profoundly sympathetic our contributing artists are to it, even in pieces that appear light-hearted. After surveying the work, I can proclaim this gallery show an authentic celebration, a great privilege and a macabre pleasure. God bless Jack Pierce," said Mondo's Rob Jones.

Tom Hanks and Robert Zemeckis Moving Forward with MAJOR MATT MASON

$

Tom Hanks is teaming back up with director Robert Zemeckis to develop a big screen adaptation of the vintage 1966 sci-fi action figure Major Matt Mason. The movie was first announced back in 2009 with Hanks attached to produce and star, and it's awesome to see that Zemeckis has jumped on board to direct it! Hanks, who is still attached to star in the film, told The Wrap that he "started tinkering with the story after Larry Crowne, and ended up co-writing the script with Graham Yost."

For those of you not familiar, Major Matt Mason was an astronaut who lived and worked on the moon. When introduced in 1966, the figures were initially based on design information found in Life MagazineAir Force Magazine, Jane's and other aviation and space-interest periodicals. Later, the line would attempt to transition into the realm of science fiction.

Yost had this to say about the story for the film in a previous interview

The story is set on the moon, near future, and it's a team of people on a base on the moon, on the south pole of the moon. And of course everything goes wrong. There's no bad guys. There's no aliens. Nothing like that. It's just, can you survive? It's really fun, and it's just been a blast working with Tom on that. We had such a good time on 'From Earth to the Moon' that it's sort of like, 'We've got to go back to the moon. Some way, somehow, let's go back to the moon.

I love the concept behind the movie, and seeing all these talented people attached to it is very exciting --especially the Hanks and Zemeckis team-up! They worked together on films such as Forrest Gump, Cast Away and The Polar Express

The movie is set up at Universal Pictures, but will also be shopped to potential buyers during the run up to the American Film Market. I don't think there will be any issues finding additional funding for the film, especially with the kind of talent attached to it.

What do you all think about Hanks and Zemeckis teaming again up for this sci-fi moon adventure?

SON OF ERNEST To Reboot Comedy Series

Even though the great Jim Varney has passed away, audiences will still see more of Ernest P. Worrell on screen. FirstShowing reports that Ruckus film has decided to reboot the series with Son of Ernest, which will be produced by character creator John Cherry. The story will focus on Ernest's long-lost son.

According to Variety, newcomer Dan Ewen will penn the script. He already has a project called Dear Satan to be directed by the Farrelly Brothers at Fox, and a family film called Playing with Fire on the way.

Ewen had this to say about the reboot:

Ernest was this plucky little engine that could -- against all odds. Ernest struck a nerve, one we're going to revisit. We plan to honor the originals and Jim Varney while birthing a new chapter that lies somewhere between not sucking and Earth-shatteringly funny.

Check out the poster spoofing The Bourne Legacy:

The first few Ernest Goes To... movies were decent, so this could be either really fun or horrible. I am hopeful it is somewhere in the middle. What do you think about this reboot?

Scott Derrickson to Direct Stephen King's BREATHING METHOD

Sinister director Scott Derrickson is set direct an adaptation of Stephen King's novella Breathing Method. The movie is set up to be produced by Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions, who also produced Sinister. The script will be written by Scott Teems

The novella is part of King's 1982 short story collection Different Seasons and is the only story in the book that hasn’t been adapted. The story "focuses on an elderly physician named Dr. Emlyn McCarron who recounts an incident in his career of a patient who was determined to give birth to her illegitimate child, despite her financial difficulties and the social stigma in the 1930s. The patient turns to the doctor because of the book he has written about the Breathing Method, a system to help women through childbirth. She grows close with the doctor, who finds that she is so determined to have the child through the method that she lingers on even after a horrific accident on the way to the hospital."

I liked this story, and I'm surprised it's taken so long for someone to get around to turning it into a movie. I loved Derrickson's Sinister, and I think this sounds like a solid project for him to take on! Have any of you read the short story? Do you think it's a good fit for Derrickson's filmmaking style?

Here is a new clip from Paranormal Activity 4. The new clip shows some creepy levitation and definitely is worth a watch. Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman are once again directing the flm.

The story is set in the present and follows a family who takes in Hunter after their possessed neighbor Katie is taken to the hospital. Nothing good can come from a demon boy.

Check out the clip and share your thoughts:

GeekStarter - SCIENCE FICTION LAND

In this week's GeekStarter we are highlighting a sweet documentary about Science Fiction Land. The movie is the latest from director Judd Ehrlich. He is a two-time Emmy-nominated filmmaker that directed such films as Run for Your Life, Mayor of the West and Magic Camp. What is cool about this GeekStarter is that it tells the story behind Argo, so if you loved that film as much as I did you should definitely support this cool documentary.

Here is an introduction to the KickStarter Project:

SCIENCE FICTION LAND tells the mind-bending true story behind Ben Affleck's ARGO. Production on our film began years before the Hollywood version. We don’t have big stars or a big budget, but we have an extraordinary story to tell. After filming dozens of interviews and accumulating a bounty of archival materials, with your support, we will be able to complete this unique film and share the real-life events that are truly stranger than fiction.

WHY SUPPORT SCIENCE FICTION LAND?

As only a documentary can, SCIENCE FICTION LAND delves deeply into this true science fiction story and recognizes its unsung heroes. As only an independent film can, we push the boundaries of storytelling to create something unique and visually rich. We want the film to transport viewers to Science Fiction Land and bring the vision of Kirby, Geller, and the team, to life.

WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES

To fully realize the vision of SCIENCE FICTION LAND, we will continue to create animations and graphics, models and reenactments, and use classic special effects techniques, with an award-winning team of cinematographers, editors, and animators, who have worked with Ehrlich on his other films.

Our fundraising goal is the minimum we need to complete the film, but finishing is only half the battle. Any additional funds raised will go towards outreach and distribution as well as archival footage and music rights and all the work it takes to get an independent film out into the world.

Kickstarter is an incredible platform for independent documentaries and filmmakers like us, but it's all-or-nothing. If we don't meet our fundraising goal, we don't get anything. Help be a part of reaching our goal.

Projects like these are only able to get made with the help of fellow geeks like you. Make a donation today and help get Science Fiction Land off the ground!

The Talking Fans: Season 3 Episode 1 Discussion / Analysis

The Walking Dead returned to us last night in fantastic form so as part of a project we wanted to make happen last season, Geektyrant is giving TWD fans an outlet to discuss, debate and have some fun with the coming episodes through a healthy fan discussion! LET IT BE STATED HERE TO NOT POST SPOILERS! We won't do anything past the current episode and all that will be posed or stated will strictly be opinion with no foreknowledge of the coming season. When it comes to talking about the graphic novel I say do at your own discretion as readers will know the show has not been too consistent in following it! Sound good? Let's do it!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So let's just start off with what's changed since the winter! Everyone looks lean, focused, and it seems a lot has changed in the months since Rick has declared dictator rule! The house clearing, the phalanx positioning moving through the jail house, Carl actually being a bad ass?! It seems like since leaving the farm, everyone has more or less learned to pull their weight! When it comes to hordes this time around it looks like the survivors will for once be a force to be reckoned with this season.

This all seems in part due to the tough love approach Rick seems to have taken this season. He is no longer indecisive and looking to please everyone. He's making plans, kicking ass and shutting mouths and while it seems there is some slight resentment by the group judging from the faces in the "cat food" scene early in the episode and the discussion between Daryl and Carol.

Speaking of which, what the hell was up with that? While we did get the interesting note that Carol seems to ultimately agree with Rick's decision to kill Shane, we also got a weird side of her we have yet seen. Something tells me that "fooling around" remark is teasing at a possible romance between the two. Their whole interaction started midway through last season and I'm sure there has to be a reason why they are focusing on those two characters.

Speaking of romance and segwaying into straight awesomeness, who else is psyched that Carl has finally manned up? Dropping fools with precision, trying to share a bunk with the pastor's daughter, I couldn't be more proud of the boy! Something tells me though this huge change in character is going to bring an episode to remind us that despite how far he's come Carl is still a boy.

I asked it last season and I will ask again, what is the point in Glenn and Maggie getting together? Both in the large scale are relatively useless to the plot and the team, so I have to wonder what will happen to the two as the season progresses.

Nothing to report with T-Dog...as always...and I pretend Lori has just as small of a role because I hate every word that comes out of her mouth. You're pregnant get over it.

Jumping ship quickly to talk about Andrea and Michonne, I'll be very interested to see how this relationship plays out. The sword kills are probably my favorite part of their segments, and the jawless and armless zombies are class to say the least. Was I the only one who felt there might be something a little more to the two's relationship? Maybe I'm just crazy...

Back at the prison we have the surprise attack on Hershel which I have to admit I was not expecting at all. What does this mean for him, will he be well enough to deliver the baby? Will he even make it back to the cell block? All questions I asked myself and all of which I expect to be answered.

Which brings us to the final part of the episode in which the survivors run into some prisoners who have apparently survived the outbreak on the prison. I'm just going to assume if these guys have been around for as long as they have they're just as, if not more tough than the survivors, so watch how that goes. The fact that Rick is going to need them to successfully transport Hershel back to the cell block, the remaining rations, and their knowledge of the layout of the prison all leads me to believe things are going to be very interesting for the next few episodes.

That's all I've got for now! Anything you want to add? Post it below and continue the discussion or throw in your two cents on the stuff we have up above! Also keep with these posts all season to talk with other fans of the show!
