New Retro 1997 Comercial for WRECK-IT RALPH

$

Disney has released another great retro style trailer for Wreck-It Ralph. This time they made a fake commerical for the non-existent 1997 arcade game Sugar Rush Speedway which looks inspired by Nintendo's Mario Kart 64. To watch the previously released 1982 Fix-It Felix commercial click here

Wreck-It Ralph was directed by Rich Moore (The Simpsons) and will feature the voices of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer, Jane Lynch, Alan Tudyk, Ed O’Neill, Mindy Kaling, Adam Carolla, Horatio Sanz, Dennis Haysbert, Edie McClurg, Roger Craig Smith, Gerald C Rivers, Rachael Harris, Stefanie Scott, Reuben Langdon and Kyle Hebert

I'm sure we'll end up seeing a Hero's Duty commercial sometime in the near future. Wreck-It Ralph is set to hit theaters in 3D on November 2nd. What was one of your favorite video games during the late 90's?

Here's the synopsis:

Walt Disney Animation Studios and Emmy®-winning director Rich Moore (TV's "The Simpsons," "Futurama") take moviegoers on a hilarious, arcade-game-hopping journey in "Wreck-It Ralph." Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly, "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby," "Step Brothers") is tired of being overshadowed by Fix-It Felix (voice of Jack McBrayer, "30 Rock"), the "good guy" star of their game who always gets to save the day. But after decades doing the same thing and seeing all the glory go to Felix, Ralph decides he's tired of playing the role of a bad guy. He takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a game-hopping journey across the arcade through every generation of video games to prove he's got what it takes to be a hero.

On his quest, he meets the tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch, TV's "Glee") from the first-person action game Hero’s Duty. But it’s the feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman, "The Sarah Silverman Program") from the candy-coated cart racing game, Sugar Rush, whose world is threatened when Ralph accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens the entire arcade. Will Ralph realize his dream and save the day before it’s too late?

Joe Wright to Direct HOUDINI Movie

$

Atonement and Hanna director Joe Wright is in talks to helm one of several movies about Houdini that are being developed right now. The movie he's looking to direct is an adaptation of the book The Secret Life of Houdini, The Making of America's First Superhero written by William Kalush and Larry Sloman. The movie title will be shortened to The Secret Life of Houdini.

The book dives into some interesting details about Houdini saying that he was a British spy, in cahoots with police organizations, and was even asked to be an adviser to Czar Nicholas II's court in prerevolutionary Russia. The movie is set up over at Lionsgate, and they want to make an action-thriller in which Houdini will be portrayed as part Indiana Jones and part Sherlock Holmes. The latest draft of the script was written by Noah Oppenheim.

I love the history of Houdini and his magic, and it would be amazing to see a movie based on his life. This one sounds like it's going to be a little over exaggerated though. As fun as it could turn out, I'm more excited about seeing a movie that plays out like a dramatic biopic. I think Wright is a great choice as a director for the material, and I hope he ends up developing the film project! He seems like a solid storyteller, and I've enjoyed the movies he's made.

What do you think of the idea behind this movie and how do you feel about Wright directing it?

Here's the desctiption of the book the film will be inspired by:

Using exclusive access to newly uncovered archives, Kalush and Sloman reveal the clandestine agreements in which the British and Americans recruited Houdini to be an active secret agent. In exchange for his cooperation, the governments of these two countries facilitated his rise to the top of the world stage. The authors give thrilling accounts of his assignments, such as his participation in early aerial surveillance and his use of his own magic magazine to communicate espionage-related information. After the war, Houdini embarked upon what became his most dangerous mission when he took on the Spiritualist movement. Convinced that Spiritualist mediums were frauds, he became obsessed with exposing them. But the Spiritualists were a powerful adversary. An organized network of fanatics, led by Sherlock Holmes creator Arthur Conan Doyle, worked relentlessly to orchestrate a campaign that would silence Houdini forever. Grounded in solid research, but as exciting and dramatic as a good thriller, THE SECRET LIFE OF HOUDINI traces the magician's long and circuitous route from struggling vaudevillian to worldwide legend.

CARRIE Teaser Trailer Released!

Screen Gems and MGM have released the first teaser trailer for the remake of Stephen King's classic story Carrie. This is the same teaser that was shown over the weekend at New York Comic Con. I think it makes a solid first impression.

The adaptation was directed by Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don't Cry, Stop-Loss), and it stars Chloë Grace Moretz, Julianne Moore, Judy Greer, Portia Doubleday, Alex Russell, Gabriella Wilde and Ansel Elgort.

The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White and her daughter Carrie.  Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society.  Gym teacher Miss Desjardin tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson, but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell, regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross, to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc.

The movie hits theaters on March 15th, 2013. Watch the teaser and let us know if you're impressed with this first look!

James Wan Talks INSIDIOUS 2

The GeekTyrant went New York Comic Con and shared details from the panel of James Wan's The Conjuring. STYD interviewed Wan and Patrick Wilson about Insidious 2 before the panel, and we've got some great details from that discussion.

The Conjuring will wrap production in a few more weeks, and is set for release in July. Wan revealed that he plans to be more involved with the sequel to Insidious, than he was with the entire Saw franchise.

“I think the sequel to Insidious is kind of my reaction to Saw where for my own reason I wasn’t as involved in the sequels, and so I felt with Insidious, think it would be good to shepherd it and keep it more in track to the version I had when I made the first film so that it doesn’t detour too far. So yeah, I’m kind of working with Leigh on the story and the script.”

Here is what he had to say about his long-term plans for Insidious, and whether he had looked at the big picture when writing the original.

“I never set out to make sequels to any of my films I direct. If they happen, that’s great because that means people out there love it and they want more of it, but I always felt with Insidious we created this really interesting world that we can explore more, and so even though we didn’t set out to make a sequel, I felt that there are stories still out there that could be told.”

Here is what Wilson stated about the sequel, which he believes will happen sooner than later:

“We’re still trying to figure out this Insidious sequel and then we should jump onto that. I think that will probably be the next big thing. I might find something small in between that I can dig into, but I’m happy being a Dad.”

Insidious is one of the scariest films I have ever seen, and I am interested to see how much creepier the sequel is. Are you looking forward to seeing the sequel?

Rupert Sanders' Next Film is a Sci-Fi Love Story Called THE JULIET

Snow White and the Hunstman director Rupert Sanders has lined up his next film project called The Juliet, which is set up at Sony Pictures and New Regency. Sanders has a cool visual style, but he's not a very good storyteller.

The movie is based on the classic 1954 short story by Alfred Bester, "Fondly Fahrenheit", which is a sci-fi love story set in a near futuristic landscape. In a previous interview producer Frank Beddor had this to say about the story,

It’s lovers on the run in space, so think Bonnie and Clyde in space, but with a very unique Bonnie who has a secret. The tone of it is close to the Bourne Identity franchise.

This is a solid story that has the potential to be a really good movie! The screenplay was written by Henry Bean and production is scheduled to begin sometime in 2013. Hopefully Sanders does a better job with this than he did with The Huntsman. Have you ever read this story and do you think it will make for a good movie?

Here's the description of the book:

The central element of the plot is that a rich playboy, James Vandaleur, and his expensive "multiple aptitude android" have become two aspects of a single insane murderous personality. Vandaleur's father is dead, having lost the family fortune, and Vandaleur only has the android which, if it works correctly, can bring in more than enough income to support him in the manner to which he had become accustomed.

Back in the day, Hitch did some cool pre-showing PSA's before his movies and instructed theater owners not to allow patrons into the theater after the lights had dimmed. Watch the PSA and share your thouhts:

Another trailer has been released for RZA's The Man With the Iron Fists. It focuses on the characters of the story, specifically a character named Bronze Lion played by Cung Le. It also includes several clips of new footage!

The story is set in 19th century China and tells the epic story of warriors, assassins and a lone outsider hero who must unite to destroy the clan traitor who would destroy them all.

It looks like an entertainingly crazy martial arts flick, and it will be fun to watch Russell Crowe, RZA, Lucy LiuJamie ChungDave BautistaPam Grier and Rick Yune kick each other's asses.

The movie was produced by Quentin Tarantino and co-written by Eli Roth. What are your expectations like for this movie?

It's also footage I was extremely excited about after seeing it at the Con.This footage that helped sell me even more on this movie, and now you can watch it for yourself if you want.

I imagine the studio will officially release this in a high res format sometime in the near future, but if you don't want to wait for it... here ya go! Oh, and it's most definitely NSFW. When you're finished watching please let us know what you think about the footage!

ROBOCOP and ELYSIUM Release Dates Pushed Back

Sony Pictures has pushed the release date of Jose Padilha's RoboCop reboot from August 9th, 2013 all the way to February 7th, 2014. It will now open up alongside DreamWorks' Need For Speed. The movie is currently in production as you can see from all of the set photos that have been released, and I like what I'm seeing so far.

Neill Blomkamp and Matt Damon's cool looking sci-fi movie Elysium was also moved from March 1st, 2013 into RoboCop's original spot of August 9th. The studio also moved Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers to September 27th, 2013.

There's no reason given for the release date shuffle or why RoboCop was moved back so far, but I imagine they will want more time to polish it up and give it a decent 3D conversion.

Trailer for the Indie Superhero Comedy ALTER EGOS

$

Here's a fun trailer for a new superhero comedy called Alter Egos, which is being distributed by Kevin Smith's Smodcast Pictures. It looks like a solid little indie film. The story introduces us to a world in which superheroes have lost government funding and public support. It was written and directed by Jordan Galland and stars Kris Lemche, Brooke Nevin, Joey Kern, Christine Evangelista, Sean Lennon, John Ventimiglia and Danny Masterson.

Here's the synopsis:

Alter Egos inhabits a fantasy world where superheroes are a dime a dozen. If you have the powers, as lead supers Fridge (Kris Lemche), and C-Thru (Joey Kern), do, then, well, you can practice them for good, as long as you follow the guidelines, or at least some of them. Quite obviously, this is a parody of parodies and flips the superhero genre on its head. Like Superman, Fridge is dorky in his human clothes. Unlike Superman, it's not because he has to do so to keep his identity under wraps—more like he uses his superhero garb to explore different facets of his personality, as evidenced by the title. Somewhere along the storyline, he must tackle the fact that his girlfriend loves his superhero identity more than his unmasked self, and, naturally, face his nemesis, the man who killed his mom and dad—although he really doesn't want to.

The movie hits limited theaters this Friday, October 17th, and VOD on November 20th. Does it look like a movie you'd want to see?

JACK REACHER gets Another Tom Cruise Poster

This is the domestic poster for the new action film Jack Reacher, which obviously stars Tom Cruise as he's been front and center on every poster released for the film. I hate these poster because they're just so boring. I wish the studios would try something a little different and exciting other than just throwing Cruise up on there. I don't have a problem with Cruise in the role, I just think the studio should be a little more creative in their marketing, because this is just lazy.

The film is based on the ninth book in the Jack Reacher book series written by Lee Child called One Shot. It was directed by Christopher McQuarrie (The Way of the Gun, writer of The Usual Suspects), and also stars Robert DuvallRosamund Pike, Jai Courtney and Werner Herzog

The new trailer for the movie is set to be released on Wednesday, so stay tuned! We'll get it up as soon as it hits! What do you think about the latest poster? The film hits theaters on December 21th 2012.

Here's the Synopsis:

When a gunman takes five lives with six shots, all evidence points to the suspect in custody. On interrogation, the suspect offers up a single note: "Get Jack Reacher!" So begins an extraordinary chase for the truth, pitting Jack Reacher against an unexpected enemy, with a skill for violence and a secret to keep.

MAN OF STEEL Toy Commercial Concepts Feature Zod Plot Details

Here's a couple of concept commercials showing off some new toys that are tied to Zack Snyder's Superman film Man of Steel. One of the commercials gives some interesting information on Zod and how Dark Zero might tie in with the movie. I guess there are some possible spoilers here, but you never know! After all it's just a concept for a Toy commercial.

Each of the commercials include footage from Superman Returns, and then they move into the toy ridiculousness. You won't get much out of the first trailer, it's the second trailer that reveals a few things about what Superman man might be facing off against at a climatic point of the movie.

Here are the commercials thanks to Bleeding Cool. Check them out and let us know what you think! I've got to say, they are coming up with some pretty interesting toys these days -- toys that kids can sling shot at their siblings and friends.

MAN OF STEEL Will Debut the New F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Jet

The Pentagon has chosen Zack Snyder's Man of Steel to debut their latest stealth fighter jet project, the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. It looks like the first combat that the Jet will see will be against a Kryptonian army in Man of Steel, at least that's what I imagine will happen! It has yet to fly any real combat missions.

I don't know much about the aircraft project, but apparently it went through numerous budgetary and engineering problems during its development. According to Wired, it's the most expensive weapons program in human history... 1.5 trillion dollars. The pentagon is excited about finally being able to show it off to the world.

The Pentagon’s Hollywood liaison Phil Strub said that, "It was a target of opportunity, they liked the idea of having the most modern, the newest fighter aircraft in the background." Who wouldn't like that idea! The fighter looks freakin' awesome! He goes on to say, "I don’t think there are any plot points for the F-35. I think it’s just background candy."

You might recognize the F-35 from other film such as The Avengers, but those were digitally rendered. They will be using the real thing in Man of Steel. Can't wait to see this badassery in action!

As we wait for the first trailer for Iron Man 3 to launch later this month, here's a cool piece of promo art featuring Tony Stark's Mark XLVII armor in action. For those of you who haven't seen any footage from this movie yet, I can't wait for you to see what's in store! You'll see for yourself that this movie promises to kick all kinds of awesome ass!

The story for the film was inspired by the popular Extremis comic storyline, which follows a nano-tech threat. It's also been described as a “technological crisis thriller,” that's set in the world of international war, arms and terror. It stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Andy Lau, Ashley Hamilton, James Badge DaleSir Ben Kingsley and, of course, Jon Favreau.
