Gandalf vs. Balrog Recut Shows How Much of a Badass Gandalf is

The Lord of The Rings trilogy really does a disservice to Gandalf's battle with the Balrog. If you watch Flood Lightning's recut of the battle between the first two films, you'll see what I mean! At first I was like "what's the difference," and then I looked at the original cut and instantly realized this was how it should have been done. See the full fight below!

ANDRÒN Trailer: Alec Baldwin Stars in This Unintentionally Hilarious Sci-Fi Rip-Off

As I watched the trailer for Andròn, a new sci-fi film starring Alec Baldwin, Michelle Ryan, and Danny Glover, I made the decision that it was so boring and derivative that I wasn't interested in it enough to write about it for GeekTyrant. But then something amazing happened at the 1:36 mark:

"They're off the grid," one character tells Baldwin.

"Then GET THEM BACK ON THE GRID!" he yells, throwing a chair in frustration.

A dialogue exchange THAT ridiculous deserves to be seen by as many people as possible. Will the movie be any good? It looks like a lame blend of The Hunger Games and Cube, so probably not. Does it have the potential to be terrible and entertaining at the same time? If there are more lines like that one — absolutely.

They don’t remember how they got there. They don’t even remember their names. A group of unknown prisoners trapped in a mysterious and deadly maze. They will have to find answers, to decipher the signs, understand the codes and they have to face a dangerous journey to discover the secret of ANDRÒN.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Featurette Takes Us Inside The X-Mansion

I guess it was only a matter of time before movie studios realized that they could convinced advertisers to sponsor content for their behind-the-scenes featurettes, and it seems like that's the world we live in now. Marvel Studios is doing it with Audi cars, and now 20th Century Fox is doing it with a freakin' real estate company.

Coldwell Banker sponsors this featurette for X-Men: Apocalypse. Do they really think that anyone gives a crap about that company? That any of the people watching this movie are going to be like, "Huh, you know what? I'm going to do business with them!" Anyway, take a look inside Xavier's mansion. X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 18th.

George Miller Rumored To Direct GREEN LANTERN CORPS

Since the ultra success of Mad Max: Fury Road, it seems like Warner Bros. wants to keep their relationship with George Miller alive. At one point, the studio wanted him to take on Man of Steel 2, and when the Superman sequel was put on permanent hold, several inside sources said that Miller was still looking to direct a DC film project. We learned that this project would "depend on what story most interests him, his take on it and everyone's availability."

Well, thanks to Heroic Insider, we've learned that Miller might be attached to direct the Green Lantern Corps movie that the studio is currently developing. This is exactly what Umberto Gonzalez says about it:

“Let me tell you what I’m hearing – I know something, I heard something yesterday. The hot rumor is George Miller… Boom! George Miller is being rumored to direct the Green Lantern Corps movie, and I think it’d be perfect for him, are you kidding me? George Miller. Again, it’s just a rumor right now, I just literally heard this yesterday.”

Green Lantern Corps isn't set to be released until June 19th, 2020, so Miller has plenty of time make a couple other films in the meantime. We know he wanted to make a smaller scale film project as well as another Mad Max sequel.

Miller is an awesome director and he needs to direct one of these DC films. If it happens to be Green Lantern Corps...awesome! I have no doubt he would do something badass with it. For additional information on what else might be going on with this movie, click here.

What do you think about the possibility of Miller taking on this project?

Review: FJackets' DEADPOOL Varsity Jacket

$

You've likely seen FJackets and their celebrity-inspired or replica jackets on the web. We've featured their clothes in the past, and I've seen several other sites do the same. I always see people asking about quality, price, etc., but I've never seen anyone actually do a real review of any of their products. Seeing as they go viral about once a month with the hottest movie's gear, I decided to try out a jacket...okay, it wasn't that noble — they sent me the one below for free.

Now here's a photo I took wearing the jacket fresh out of the package, before my shower and cropped because I wasn't wearing pants at the time.

Clearly I was made for modeling. There are a couple things you'll notice between my jacket and his. First, my buttons are silver and not red as advertised. Second, although the jacket description doesn't lie, it looks like the model picture has that slick material for the arms where mine is just cotton/polyester. Not a huge gripe, but it does seem a bit deceptive from what was in the picture.

Now we reach the price. Fifty bucks is a big ask depending on who you talk to. On one hand, it's $50 for a jacket that has a Deadpool logo on it...but on the other it's $50 for a jacket that has a DEADPOOL logo on it. Licensed jackets are never cheap, period. You'll find that out when you visit any studio gift shop, but this is a quandary for me. Personally, I would not have bought this jacket at its asking price, but you gotta twist my arm to get clothes to begin with, so I might be the wrong guy when it comes to this scenario.

As far as size, I ordered a large, and I'm not sure if FJackets is based outside of the U.S., but this was not an American large. Perhaps it's the style of the jacket, but this thing is gonna cling to you whether you like it or not. It felt more like a medium to me, although the fit doesn't look too bad, so I can't complain too much. Just keep in mind sizes are a bit on the smaller side if you order.

I did not like the pocket stitching. It was one of those jobs where the pocket literally looks like someone sewed a handkerchief around a hole in the jacket. No attempt to mask it, or keep it hugging to the jacket...it's just protruding.

Overall, not at all a bad jacket, just a bit different than advertised. Considering the price of some of their more expensive replica jackets, I would expect quality matching exactly that of the picture, and I would hope care is taken across the board in doing so. I'm not at all saying don't purchase this, but know that this experience for me (although I like it) was not without issue.

Review: Key & Peele Elevate The Formulaic But Funny KEANU

$

0

There are plenty of laughs to be found in Keanu, the big-screen debut of former Comedy Central stars Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele. That the movie works in spite of its cliche-ridden script is a testament to its stars' excellent chemistry and infectious personalities.

A pair of silent assassins named the Allentown Brothers (played by Key & Peele in heavy makeup) burst into a drug den and blast the dealers into oblivion, and perhaps the cutest kitten in cinema history makes a daring escape from the bloodbath. After dodging bullets and dead bodies, the kitten wanders the streets of Los Angeles and eventually ends up on the doorstep of Rell (Peele), a stoner artist whose recent breakup has left him devastated. Rell names the kitten Keanu ("I think it means 'cool breeze.'") and his lousy mood instantly improves. Rell and his uptight cousin Clarence (Key) go out to see a "Liam Neesons" movie, and when they return, they're horrified to discover that Rell's apartment has been ransacked and Keanu has been stolen. On a tip from Rell's drug dealer neighbor (Will Forte), the cousins head to a nearby strip club looking for Cheddar (Method Man), the leader of the thieving gangsters, but these guys are both far too nerdy to fit in as themselves. So they adopt hard-talking gangster alter egos, are quickly confused for the Allentown Brothers (who want Keanu for themselves), and highjinks ensue as they try to survive the escalating situation.

For a movie featuring two of the best sketch comics in the world, the script (written by Peele and Alex Reubens) feels surprisingly formulaic. There are cliches at practically every turn — mistaken identity, the uptight nerd who ultimately lets loose and finds himself, a drug trip hallucination sequence, and obsession with an '80s/'90s pop song/artist (here, Clarence absolutely loves George Michael). But while the duo's Comedy Central series would have subverted or commented on any of those tropes, the movie simply leans on them to extend the runtime, which feels longer than its 98 minutes. The guys grapple with stereotypes of black culture and masculinity, but it's all very surface-level stuff, and never feels as sharp or witty as their sketches (though Peter Atencio, who directed the series, is behind the camera here as well).

This is not a film overly concerned with realism. Its opening scene involves a cat miraculously surviving a shootout, roving through downtown L.A., and choosing to stop at Rell's house for no reason other than "the movie needed it to happen." But its best moments are the ones with hints of truth to them — conversations between Key & Peele, their interactions with the gang members as they try to get the kitten back, etc. — so it's unfortunate that as the film heads into its third act, it devolves into a crazy action climax in which serious injuries seemingly don't have any impact and even the notion of realism is hurled out the window.

Despite these drawbacks, the charisma of the leading men still makes the movie worth watching. Key is a jangling bundle of nerves here, and he has this wonderful ability to seem as if he's surprising himself with every gangster-ish line that comes out of his mouth. Peele is more of the straight man this time around, always on the verge of being overwhelmed but determined to rescue Keanu at any cost. The two are endlessly watchable, and even though the movie sags in the middle during a drug deal scene, their high-energy antics outweigh most of the film's flaws. Plus, that adorable kitten is a major scene-stealer.

Sophie Turner Reveals X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Easter Egg

Actress Sophie Turner, who is playing a young Jean Grey in Bryan Singer's upcoming mutant extravaganza X-Men: Apocalypse, has revealed one of the film's Easter Eggs in a new photo:

Heat Vision expertly points out that the album cover seen in the pic is a callback to 1983's Dazzler No. 29 by artist Bill Sienkiewicz and designer Eliot R. Brown:

And that reference in her caption to "pre-1989" is a Taylor Swift shout-out, lending more fuel to the fires of rumors that the pop star will be making a cameo as the pop star mutant Dazzler in the movie. Swift was seen photographed with some of the film's actors during production, but producer Simon Kinberg claimed it was simply because she did a concert nearby; if Swift ends up showing up in costume in the movie, we'll know that was total B.S. If not, this album cover shout-out is still a cool little Easter Egg for Dazzler fans out there, and maybe the character will pop up in another sequel.

Batman and Velma Team Up in DARK KNIGHT RETURNS and SCOOBY-DOO Mashup Art

Artist Marco D’Alfonso is back with another humorous illustration that mashes together Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns with Hanna Barbera’s Scooby-Doo. The result is a fake Batman & Velma Mysteries comic that would be fantastic! In this mashup story arc, Velma takes on the role of Robin, which makes perfect sense.

The art was created for The Line is Drawn’s Hanna-Barbera/Comic Book mashup series, and you can check out more of the art created for the collection here. Some of them are pretty fun, but this is my favorite.

“The battle for your soul begins.”

Universal Studios has announced that there will be an Exorcist-themed maze at Halloween Horror Nights this year! The maze will be based on the 1973 classic horror film directed by William Friedkin

When I saw this movie for the first time, it scared the living shit out of me. I was 10 or 11 years old, and it completely messed me up. This maze will bring that nightmare to life in a way we’ve never experienced before.

The maze will be a real life interpretation of the movie, and will bring some of the most iconic moments from that movie to life. I’ve included a video that offers some of those iconic scenes that we might see in the maze.

The Exorcist maze will available to terrify you at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort this September and October.

This 1994 workplace safety video from the United Safety Council is absolutely insane. It’s called Will You Be Here Tomorrow? and it's absolutely terrifying. The safety video plays out like an Eli Roth gorefest horror film because it’s one grotesque torture and death scene after another. Watching this video makes me never want to have to work in a factory. It seems like anything in a place like that can kill you.

This is the first photo of Jason Statham and Jessica Alba in the upcoming action thriller Mechanic: Resurrection. The movie is a sequel to the 2011 film The Mechanic, which was a remake of the 1972 Charles Bronson film.

I completely forgot they were making this sequel until this photo was sent to me. The movie also stars Tommy Lee Jones and Michelle Yeoh and this is the synopsis:

Arthur Bishop (Statham) returns as the Mechanic when someone from his past forces him back into the business. Bishop has to complete an impossible list of assassinations of the most dangerous men in the world.

The movie was directed by Dennis Gansel (We Are the Night) and it’s set to be released in theaters on August 26th, 2016.

Artist Chris Henderson has created a great series of Marvel and DC art that was inspired by the animated series Archer. They include illustrations from properties such as Captain America: Civil War, Daredevil, and Batman v Superman. I’m looking at these images and it’d be pretty fun to see these turned into an animated parody.

We’ve got some more Captain America: Civil War goodies to share with you today! Marvel has released a new clip from the film in which we get to see Black Panther fight Bucky. There’s also a new TV spot that features some footage of Team Iron Man and Team Cap rushing into battle. There’s also some amusing Ant-Man humor. You’ll also find two new featurettes for you to check out. The first focuses on the relationship between Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes and the second focuses on shooting parts of the film in IMAX. In the video director Joe Russo says:

"The aspect ratio is probably more well suited for Marvel movies than anything. Because there's a lot of verticality to the characters. There's characters that fly; there's characters that are 12 feet high. It adds a whole other dimensionality to the story we can tell."

Civil War comes out on May 6th so you don’t have to wait much longer! I seriously can’t wait for all of you to see this movie.

Watch Woman Become Absolutely Terrified as She Plays a Horror VR Shooter Game

There’s a horror VR game out in the world called The Brookhaven Experiment. This game looks pretty awesome, and I’d love to play it — especially after watching this poor woman take it on. As she plays the game while using an Oculus Rift, the horror intensifies and she ends up being absolutely terrified. You’d think the creatures that are attacking her were actually real. It’s pretty funny to watch but she’ll probably never play this game again.
