I’ve got an incredibly fun, must watch video in which the characters of Star Trek the original series find themselves inside the 1966 Batman TV universe. They come across Batman’s Batmobile, and McCoy and Spock get Captain Kirk to take a wild ride in it! This video was incredibly fun and it put a huge smile on my face.

I’ve already said that Captain America: Civil War has some of the best action sequences ever put in a superhero movie. It makes complete sense now that I know that John Wick directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch were brought in to help develop some of those fight sequences!

Apparently, Joe and Anthony Russo are friends with them, and they thought that they could bring something special to the movie with their expertise. That’s exactly what they did. In an interview with Collider Joe Russo explained:

"They did us a huge favor. They're friends of ours, and obviously, they're now off enjoying very successful directing careers, and just as friends we called them and asked them if they'd help us execute some of the action sequences. Along with Spiro Razatos, who is generally regarded as the top guy along with Chad and David, so we literally had an all-star team of second unit directors working on this movie with us, because we cared so much about the action, the quality of the action, and we knew we had to work really hard to up our game from Winter Solider, so we wanted to bring in the best people in the business to help us do that."

So believe the hype, my friends. When everyone in the world and I say that Civil War is loaded with some of the most badass action you've seen in a Marvel movie, keep in mind that the directors of John Wick helped make that happen, and it’s going to blow you away!

First Season of SWORD ART ONLINE Broken Down into Painfully True Five Minutes

I'm not here to debate whether or not Sword Art Online is overblown and a bit overrated when compared to most of the anime on the market, What I am here to do is show you an abridged video by Gigguk that may or may not make you think that all on your own!

Okay, I actually did like the first season of SAO, but that second season sucked. You can't shake me on that one. My hatred for that season makes me enjoy this video a bit more.

THE OMEN is Getting a Prequel Film at Fox Called THE FIRST OMEN

After 40 years The Omen horror franchise continues to try and thrive. I’m a fan of Richard Donner’s original 1976 film. It's wonderfully nightmarish, especially with that terrifying musical score. The movie was followed by a few underwhelming sequels, a terrible remake, and a current TV series that I don't find interesting at all. Now 20th Century Fox is planning on making a prequel to the original movie called The First Omen.

The studio is in talks with indie filmmaker Antonio Campos to direct the movie. He most recently directed the Sundance movie Christine with Rebecca Hall and Michael C. Hall. The supernatural horror thriller is also being produced by David Goyer.

Gregory Peck starred in the original film as an ambassador who comes to believe that his 5-year-old son may be the living embodiment of the Antichrist, the son of the devil. It’s a horror movie classic, but none of that horrific magic has been replicated in any of the other Omen projects. Will they be able to capture it with this prequel? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. I’m not getting my hopes up, though.

Why Iron Man Recruits Spider-Man to Fight Captain America in CIVIL WAR

In case you’ve been wondering why Tony Stark would recruit a 15-year-old superhero to fight with him against Captain America and his team, director Joe Russo offers an explanation. Peter Parker’s inclusion in the conflict plays out awesomely. Everything from Stark taking him under his wing to watching Spider-Man fight with and against a group of other superheroes is a blast!

According to Russo, Stark brought the young hero in because of his affection for Captain America and his friends. The director explains:

“Look, there’s a certain narcissism to the character and Tony doesn’t want to lose this fight, and at the same time I think he also sees Spider-Man as the greatest living non-lethal weapon. If you’re going out to capture a bunch of people who you don’t necessarily want to hurt, you couldn’t ask for a better character than Spider-Man to take with you."

Spider-Man is a hell of a great character, and he’s one of the best and most powerful superheroes in Marvel Comics. One of the things that I love about him is that he keeps those powers in check as he outmatches his superhero peers. You’ll get to see that in Civil War. Russo goes on to talk about that aspect of the character a little more, but this next comment contains SPOILERS, so if you don’t mind that, then proceed:

“He does show up and illustrate that Spider-Man, he knows how powerful he is. In a video we see Spider-Man stopping a car moving 40 miles an hour, where he catches it and puts it back on the ground, so I think he believes that he’s taking with him perhaps one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel universe, and I think he feels like the kid will be well-protected under his tutelage. You also find out in that sequence, when things go wrong the kid says, ‘What do I do?’ and Tony says, ‘Keep your distance, web ’em up.’ So he’s obviously mentored the kid for what’s about to go down.”

One thing is for sure, Tony Stark and Spider-Man make a great team. It’s going to be fun to see that relationship blossom over the course of the upcoming Marvel films.

Marvel is Officially Developing a Solo Series for THE PUNISHER!

This should come as no surprise because I think we all knew this was coming, but Marvel is officially moving forward on a spin-off series for The Punisher! The character perfectly introduced in the MCU in Daredevil Season 2 and  actor Jon Bernthal will be back to reprise his role as the vengeful and deadly Frank Castle.

Bernthal was incredible as The Punisher and they couldn't have cast a better actor in the role. He brought such an emotion weight to the character and there were times that as I was watching his in Daredevil Season 2 that I couldn't help be get choked up a bit as we learned about the character and his past. On top of that the character was just an all-around badass! It's awesome to know that he's getting his own series!

The Punisher is the sixth series ordered by Netflix there's no doubt that it will be one of their best. We got Luke Cage and Iron Fist coming next and then we will get the superhero ensemble miniseries The Defenders which will also include Jessica Jones and Daredevil. There's no word on if The Punisher will be included in that yet, but obviously, there's at least the possibility that the character could show up.

Writer and executive producer Steve Lightfoot will serve as the showrunner. He has previously worked on TV shows such as  Hannibal and Casualty. Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb had this to say in a statement:

“We want to thank the fans who are clamoring for more of Jon’s stunning and powerful performance as Frank Castle from ‘Marvel’s Daredevil.’ Now combined with Showrunner Steve Lightfoot’s compelling writing, we’re thrilled to bring ‘Marvel’s The Punisher’ to Netflix.”

Cindy Holland, Netflix Vice President of Original Content added:

“Jon hooked our global audience with his performance as Frank Castle from the moment he stepped on screen in ‘Marvel’s Daredevil,’ and we are looking forward to seeing more of him in this role under the vision of Steve Lightfoot."

Executive Producer and Showrunner, Steve Lightfoot went on to say:

“For me, the complexity and unpredictability of Frank Castle make him an incredibly compelling character and I couldn’t be more excited to dive into his world. After watching Jon’s performance in ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ I could not be more excited to be working with him to further develop and progress the story of this anti-hero in a show of his own.”

I'm sure that Marvel and Netflix will develop an incredible new series around this character and I can't wait to see how it turns out! Here's a teaser...

Trailer for Netflix’s DANGER MOUSE Animated Series

"No threat is too small, no evil too great for this secret agent mouse and his sidekick! Villains: You've been warned.”

Netflix has released the first trailer for their upcoming animated action series, Danger Mouse. This is a remake of the original cartoon that aired in the UK from 1981 to 1992. I remember watching a few episodes of that show, but I was more into Mighty Mouse since that’s what was airing in the US when I was growing up. The new Danger Mouse series updates the world’s greatest super spy rodent for the 21st century, and it looks like a lot of fun.

The world’s greatest secret agent, Danger Mouse, returns in dashing, globe-spanning style with a new animated series that features all the classic characters, catchphrases and comedy that made it an 80’s cult favorite. With the world once more teetering on the edge of disaster, the small but heroic secret agent is back to thrill a whole new generation of fans as he attempts to overthrow a host of villainous rivals with the help of hapless hamster Penfold and a collection of state-of-the-art gadgetry and vehicles. Originally a loose parody of British spy fiction.

The new series features the voice cast of British actor and comedian, Stephen Fry, as Colonel K, Alexander Armstrong as Danger Mouse, Kevin Eldon as his trusty sidekick Penfold, Dave Lamb as the narrator, Lena Headey as U.S. Secret Agent Jeopardy Mouse, and John Oliver as Dr. Augustus P. Crumhorn III.

The series will be available to stream in its entirety today, April 29th.

Retro 1940 Fan Trailer for Ed Wood's CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

I've got a pretty awesome fan-made trailer for Captain America: Civil War that you've gotta check out! It reimagines the film as if it had been directed by the legendary Ed Wood. The trailer was cut together by Darth Blender using footage from a variety of films from the '30s, '40s, and '50s. You will find a list of those films below the embed. The trailer is surprisingly entertaining, and I think you'll enjoy it.

Films used to create this trailer include:

- Adventures Of Captain Marvel (1941).
- Captain America (1944).
- Cat-Women Of The Moon (1953).
- King Of the Rocket Man (1949).
- Mysterious Doctor Satan (1940).
- Spy Smasher (1942).
- The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957).
- The Green Archer (1940).
- The Fighting Devil Dogs (1938).
- The Avengers (1961).

Ben Affleck Reportedly Has Full Creative Control Over BATMAN Solo Film

$

According to a recent report from Heroic Insider, we've learned that Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns are rumored to have "complete creative control" over the solo Batman film they're developing. If this is truly the case, it means that Zack Snyder probably won't have that much involvement with the movie outside of some sort of producer credit. For those of you who didn't like Batman v Superman, I'm sure that is music to your ears.

The report goes on to say that Affleck is leading the charge on the development of the project and that Johns is more of a consultant, who will help provide any necessary references to comic book lore, and he's the perfect guy for that. It's great to hear that Affleck will have all the freedom he needs to bring this Batman film to life. The guy is a top-notch filmmaker who was absolutely awesome as Batman and I'm excited to see where he ends up taking the story of this version of the Dark Knight next. I don't think Affleck would have done the project had the studio not agreed to give him this kind of freedom.

Are you happy to hear that Affleck is calling all the shots on this movie? To catch up on any previously released information and rumors on this Batman solo film, click here.

We've seen a few set photos from Star Wars: Episode VIII already, and we've heard some wild rumors about the story the film will tell, all of which you can catch up on here. We now have some cool official images from the set of the film that director Rian Johnson has shared himself on his Tumblr. The photos were shared as a way to celebrate that they are at the halfway point of shooting. Johnson included the following captain:

"I can’t believe we’re halfway through the shoot. (We’re halfway through the shoot!)"

The photo above features an unknown resistance pilot sitting in an X-Wing as a crew member wipes down the window. The second image includes a member of the First Order standing at a console while another crew member is standing next to him wiping it down as well. Knowing about all the cleaning that is going on on the set of the film, this next caption from Johnson will make sense:

"Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the microfiber sham."

As cool as it is to see these photos, I can't wait to actually see some footage from the movie! Star Wars: Episode VIII is set to hit theaters on December 15, 2017.

10 CLOVERFIELD LANE Director Tackling New BLACK MIRROR Episode For Netflix

$

After hearing nothing but praise about Black Mirror for years, I finally carved out time and watched the whole series couple of months ago. What a ride — the show is intense, intelligent, powerful, and thought-provoking, not to mention beautifully written, designed, directed, and acted. (Mick loves it.) So it's no surprise that one of the most talented up-and-coming filmmakers in Hollywood has been tapped to direct one of the new episodes of the series.

Deadline reports that 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg will helm one of the new season's standalone episodes, though there's no word about who will star in it or what the plot will be. Frankly, it doesn't really matter: Trachtenberg is a spectacular fit for this show, which has been compared to a modern day Twilight Zone. His Cloverfield movie drew those same comparisons, and it's clear he has not only a great visual eye but a talent for telling powerful stories, going all the way back to his short film More Than You Can Chew.

Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker is back as showrunner for the twelve new episodes of the show, which he's written. Bryce Dallas Howard, Alice Eve, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mackenzie Davis, and Malachi Kirby have been confirmed to appear, and Trachtenberg joins directors Joe Wright (HannaPan) and Jakob Verbruggen (House of Cards) as the only announced directors of the new season thus far.

You can read my two-part interview with Trachtenberg about 10 Cloverfield Lane here and here.

TULIP FEVER Trailer: Alicia Vikander and Dane DeHaan Fall in Forbidden Love

I'd never heard of Tulip Fever until about five minutes ago, but the new movie looks a lot better than your typical forbidden romance period piece. First off, it has a terrific cast including new Tomb Raider Alicia Vikander, Dane DeHaan, Christoph Waltz, Dame Judi Dench, Jack O'Connell, and...Zach Galifianakis? He seems a little out of place among those actors, but OK, sure. And Cara Delevingne shows up, too (she also stars with DeHaan in the sci-fi film Valerian). And secondly, this seems to have aspects of a thriller to it, almost like a murder mystery with what looks to be a fake death involved. Definitely more intense than just two people longing for each other from across a class barrier.

Tulip Fever hits theaters on July 15th.

STAR TREK BEYOND Beams Up a Batch of New Photos

Things have been very quiet on the Star Trek Beyond front. That first trailer didn't go over very well with fans — even writer/star Simon Pegg wasn't thrilled with it — but director Justin Lin has big plans for the new movie. Paramount does too, and the reason we haven't seen another trailer (or really any other marketing materials from the movie, save for these new pics today) is because the studio is holding a huge fan event on the studio lot on May 20th that will reveal the new trailer and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the franchise. I'll be there and will have a write-up about it here on the site soon after, but in the meantime, take a look at these new photos of stars Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, and Lin himself.

Video Highlights 10 Stupid Movie Cliches

Don't you get tired of the exact same things happening in your favorite movies? We all do. How many times do we have to see a bomb disarmed just in the nick of time? How many times will we see people get blown back by a pistol shot? The answer is every time, but it's good we have people like Mind Warehouse to remind us that isn't how the real world works. Maybe someday these annoying cliches will go the way of the dodo.

SHINOBI Movie in Development From SEGA and Producer Marc Platt

$

A live-action feature film based on the video game Shinobi is officially in the works.

Marc Platt, whose credits include the Broadway smash hit Wicked and movies like Bridge of Spies, Drive, Wanted, and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, will produce. Platt had this to say in a statement:

“We love the Shinobi games and believe that the world of ninjas has never been properly explored onscreen. We now have the opportunity to do just that. With Shinobi, we hope to make a film that honors the essence of the games and brings this fascinating world to life for moviegoing audiences.”

Shinobi told the story of Joe Musashi, a child who started out weak but eventually worked his way up to become the most skilled ninja of the Oboro clan. Armed with his trusty shuriken (throwing knives), he faced off against a ninja crime syndicate called Zeed, who attempted to return Japan to a state of chaos in which they could thrive. Musashi was the protagonist of the first three games in the Shinobi series.

In 2014, SEGA announced that the company was interested in developing adaptations of Shinobi, Altered Beast, Streets of Rage, Virtua Fighter, Rise of Nightmares, Golden Axe, and Crazy Taxi, and we just received a press release that indicates Shinobi will be the first adaptation that makes it to the big screen. Stories International, SEGA's production branch, "is in the process of partnering with the major studios, producers and filmmakers to co-develop adaptations of these properties as English-language feature films, television and digital series for worldwide release." No word yet on writers, stars, a director, or a production start date, but it sounds like this is slowly moving forward. Which bland white guy do you think will ultimately be cast in the lead role?

Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe's THE NICE GUYS Gets a Retro '70s-Themed Trailer

$

The Nice Guys is one of my most anticipated movies of the year, mostly because I'm a huge fan of writer/director Shane Black. He started as a hotshot young writer with movies like Lethal Weapon and The Monster Squad, but his directorial efforts — which so far include Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3 — are fast-talking high-energy blasts of entertainment, and this movie looks no different. Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe star, and Warner Bros. has just unveiled a "retro" trailer to mirror its 1970s setting. Nothing crazy, just a little reminder that this awesome-looking movie comes out on May 20th.
