Sony Pictures Registers More SPIDER-MAN Movie Domain Names

$
0
0

The other day we learned that Sony Pictures had registered a domain name for a Spider-Man movie property, which led people to believe the upcoming solo film from director Jon Watts would be called Spider-Man: Homecoming. Since that report hit the internet, Sony has registered three more movie domain names for Spider-Man. Those names include:

  • SpiderManComingOfAgeMovie.com - Spider-Man: Coming of Age
  • SpiderManGreatnessAwaitsMovie.com - Spider-Man: Greatness Awaits
  • SpiderManSuspendedMovie.com - Spider-Man: Suspended

So now we have a total of four potential titles. I just want to point out that these titles could also be used for the animated film that the studio is currently developing with The LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. They could also be the potential titles of a tie-in video game that might be in development.

Whatever the titles are for, Sony is planning to do something with at least one of them. While we wait to see what comes of them, what do you think of the potential title choices for the movies being developed?

Fans Petition AMC to Reveal Who Died in THE WALKING DEAD Finale

$

As you know a lot of fans were pissed off by the way The Walking Dead showrunners left us hanging at the end of the season finale. You can read my rant about it that I posted yesterday here. A lot of fans felt completely cheated, and now a group of them have banded together and started a petition to get AMC to reveal who died at the end of the episode. The petition on Change.org reads:

"I would like AMC to show us who Negan killed in the Season 6 finale of The Walking Dead. We want this either in an interim episode that borders Season 6 and 7, or a short R-Rated webisode that shows us the death in all it's [sic] bloody glory. Either of these are fine as long as it's released before May 30th."

Good luck with that guys. As much as I didn’t like the season finale, at this point it doesn’t matter. They should have followed through and ended it with the reveal of who was killed because that was the moment we were all invested in. Revealing it now as an interim episode, a webisode, or even the season seven premiere isn’t going to carry the same weight. AMC blew it and missed a powerful opportunity by doing what they did.

Don’t expect AMC to even blink at this petition. It seems like they are standing by their silly decision to end the season with a deflating balloon. But if you want to sign the petition as an act of rebellion go for it!

Also, just for the hell of it, I included a video of Hitler complaining about the ending of the season finale.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Could Have a Tie in to Netflix's LUKE CAGE

Even though the Marvel cinematic universe is connected through its films and TV shows, there hasn't been any real crossover between the films and the Netflix series. There seems to be a growing disconnect between these things, but today we've learned that Captain America: Civil War could feature an unexpected link to the Netflix series Luke Cage.

Alfre Woodardcap

A list of Captain American: Civil War cast members who are attending the upcoming world premiere of the film next week was sent out to several press outlets. That list of cast members included Alfre Woodard. Woodward was going to make her debut as Mariah Dillard in the Netflix series Luke Cage.

Dillard is a powerful New York politician from Harlem. She is looking to bring a new era of change to the streets she grew up on. Her life gets very complicated with Luke Cage comes into the picture as well as her cousin Cottonmouth, who is causing problems.

Marvel hasn't confirmed who exactly Woodard would be playing in Civil War, but it would be weird, confusing, and unusual if she played a different character. If Woodard does end up playing Dillard in Captain America: Civil War, it would be the first reference to a Marvel Netflix show in a Marvel movie.

Of course, Woodard isn't the only Luke Cage cast member that will be going to the Captain America: Civil War premiere. Mike Colter (Luke Cage) will attend, as will cast members from Daredevil and Marvel's Agents of SHIELD. They are all listed as "Special Guests" though, not cast members.

First Look at Tom Cruise in THE MUMMY in Set Photos

A batch of photos from the set of Universal Pictures' The Mummy have popped up online, and they give us our first look at Tom Cruise and Annabelle Wallis in the film. The Mummy is currently being shot in Oxford, England.

The story is set in modern day, and Cruise is playing a special forces soldier while Wallis is taking on the role of an archeologist. The Mummy is the first of several feature films that will be based on monsters from Universal's classic monster cinematic universe. The fact that these new films are set in modern day doesn't sit well with me at all. I wish they would be period pieces that take place in the '30s or '40s. That would have been a much cooler setting. I am curious to see how these movies turn out, though.

The movie also stars Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service), who is playing the mummy, and Jake Johnson (Jurassic World). It's being directed by Alex Kurtzman from a script by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus), and it's set to be released in theaters on June 9th, 2017.

SHERLOCK Season 4 Begins Shooting with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman

“We all have a past. Ghosts. They are the shadows that define our every sunny day…”

It's finally happening! Season four of Steven Moffat's Sherlock has started shooting! Benedict Cumberbatch recently completed shooting Doctor Strange for Marvel. He didn't waste any time before jumping right into his next project, and I couldn't be more excited!

The award-winning BBC drama will return with three brand-new episodes promising "laughter, tears, shocks, surprises and extraordinary cases..." Cumberbatch will obviously be joined by Martin Freeman who will reprise his role as Watson, and this is a little blurb about what we have to look forward too:

Series four begins with the nation’s favourite detective, the mercurial Sherlock Holmes, back once more on British soil, as Doctor Watson and his wife, Mary, prepare for their biggest ever challenge - becoming parents for the first time.

Cumberbatch told BBC that he was “genuinely thrilled to be back filming Sherlock with all the cast and crew. I can't wait for everyone to see season four. But you will have to wait... though not for long... And it will be worth it.”

The first of the three the three feature-length episodes will be directed by Rachel Talalay, who has previously directed episodes of Doctor Who, The Flash, and The Wind In The Willows. Sherlock co-creators, writers, and executive producers Moffat and Mark Gatiss released a joint statement saying:

“Sherlock series four - here we go again! Whatever else we do, wherever we all go, all roads lead back to Baker Street - and it always feels like coming home. Ghosts of the past are rising in the lives of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson bringing adventure, romance and terror in their wake. This is the story we’ve been telling from the beginning. A story about to reach its climax...”

It's not easy for this team to get these episodes made because Cumberbatch and Freeman are so damn busy. Luckily, their schedules opened up, and we are going to get a new chapter in their stories. Sue Vertue, Executive Producer for Hartswood Films, says:

“It's taken a while to gather everyone together for series four, but I can confidently say I think it will be well worth the wait!”

I can't wait to see where this next chapter takes these characters. I'm sure it will be worth the wait. I hope Moffat keeps this series going as long as he can. I hope season four isn't the last time these characters embark on a thrilling mystery adventure.

Marvel Studios Unveils New Photo of Benedict Cumberbatch as DOCTOR STRANGE

We've seen a handful of official images of Benedict Cumberbatch in his Doctor Strange costume, and we've also seen a few unofficial ones of filming in New York City (as well as a few awesome pics taken of Cumberbatch in costume at a NYC comic book shop). Now, seven months out from the movie's release, Marvel Studios has unveiled a new photo of the star suited up in full regalia.

Looks like he's going to be utilizing hand movements similar to the ones Elizabeth Olsen uses as Scarlet Witch, which makes sense considering they're both harnessing magical elements of the MCU. What do you think of his look?

“Doctor Strange” follows the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

The film stars Mads Mikkelsen, Tilda Swinton, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, and more. Doctor Strange hits theaters on November 4th.

Sam Rockwell Says GALAXY QUEST Almost Had a Sequel on Amazon

$

20 years after the release of Galaxy Quest, we are not only learning that a sequel was planned for an exclusive release on Amazon, but was also set to be filming right now! Sam Rockwell talked to The Nerdist Podcast and said the project ultimately fell apart due to scheduling conflicts and, of course, Alan Rickman's untimely passing. His exact words are found below:

They were going to do a sequel on Amazon and we were ready to sign up for, and you know, Alan Rickman passed away and Tim Allen wasn’t available, he has a show, and everybody’s show was all weird. We were going to this sequel on Amazon. It was going to shoot like, right now.

So now that we know it was out in the universe, do we still push for it? Obviously, the loss of Alan Rickman won't make it easy, but maybe it's worth reevaluating the script...or should we just let sleeping dogs lie?

In The Wake of BATMAN V SUPERMAN, Warner Bros. Might Release Fewer Films Per Year

$

Here's a bit of inside baseball for those who like following the ins and outs of the film business. Regardless of your personal feelings about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara was expecting it to be a regime-defining hit for him. But after a strong opening weekend, the film experienced a massive drop at the box office due to largely terrible word of mouth from both critics and regular audience members. (I can hear the commenters already, and no, this is not my "bias": you don't have to look very hard to find a negative review of the movie, and it received a B Cinemascore, the same as Catwoman and Green Lantern.) Many are predicting that it won't reach $1 billion before it leaves theaters, which is a threshold that's become the industry's new standard for success for mega-budgeted franchises like this.

THR has released a report that indicates that because of the disappointing earnings of the film so far, combined with a series of high-profile flops last year (Pan, Jupiter Ascending, and In The Heart of The Sea among them), the studio is going to be releasing fewer films per year and put more of a concentration on its three biggest properties: DC, LEGO, and Harry Potter. No surprise there: it's considered the "safe" strategy at the moment, and after the events of the past few months, I can't really blame them for wanting to recoup some of the cash they've lost.

THR's sources tell them that despite rumors, the studio doesn't have any plans to add a producer like George Miller to the upcoming DC slate in order to right the ship, and that they will "naturally will evaluate what went wrong with BvS" but not actively try to turn Justice League "into a copycat of something else."

Last year, WB released 21 movies, more than any other studio. They're still reportedly planning to work with directors who have carved out a home at the studio — people like Clint Eastwood, Christopher Nolan, Ben Affleck, and Todd Phillips — but aside from films from those guys, the prospects of original movies making it through the pipeline at WB doesn't sound great right now.

Archaeological Mysteries/Discoveries To Spark INDIANA JONES’ Next Adventure

$

It was recently announced that Lucasfilm would once again be teaming up with Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford for Indiana Jones 5. During his cinematic adventures thus far, Indy has gone after the Ark of the Covenant, tracked down a stolen sacred stone, found the Holy Grail, and uncovered an alien UFO.

The last Indiana Jones movie was set in 1957. I imagine Indiana Jones 5 will be set either in the '60s or '70s. There are a number of adventures that Indy could find himself in, but what’s next for the adventurous archeologist? Officially, we’ll have to wait and see — but in the meantime, here’s a list of mysterious archeological discoveries and legends that could spark Indiana Jones on his next adventure.

I will say that a lot of these are in North America because I think it would be cool to see Dr. Jones uncover and go on an adventurous journey in the United States.

Terracotta Army

This is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, who was the first Emperor of China. It’s a form of funerary art buried with the emperor in 210–209 BCE and whose purpose was to protect the emperor in his afterlife. They were discovered in 1974 by local Chinese farmers and it would be cool if Indy was one of the first archeologists on the scene. This is probably the most obvious, but who knows what could be discovered by the iconic archeologist and where the road it could take him leads. More info.

Montezuma’s Treasure

archeological-mysteries/discoveries-that-could-spark-indiana-jones-next-adventure

It’s a legendary buried treasure that has never been found. It is said to be located in the Casa Grande ruins or elsewhere in the southwest United States and Mexico. There has also been evidence that it resides in Kanab, Utah, where Aztec petroglyphs have been discovered. There are also a lot of awesome legends about spirits who protect the treasure, giant Aztec skeleton remains, water traps, and more. The Last Crusade started out with a young Indiana Jones in Utah. It would be fun to see this next chapter lead him back there for Montezuma’s Treasure. More info.

The Screaming Mummies

In 1886, Gaston Masparo was unwrapping the mummies of the 40 kings and queens found in an astonishing hidden cache near Egypt's Valley of the Kings. Rameses the Great, Seti I, and Tuthmosis III were among these mummies, but there were others buried alongside them and it suddenly became a terrifying find. As he was unwrapping them, he found some of the mummies had died while horrifically screaming. These are spine-tingling to look at. Were they buried alive? If so, why? What is the true story behind these people? What could be discovered that takes Jones on his next journey? More Info.

Lost Underground City Of The Grand Canyon

archeological-mysteries/discoveries-that-could-spark-indiana-jones-next-adventure5

I like the thought of Indiana Jones having an adventure in America. There are a lot of cool archeological discoveries and legends that would make for a great film. One of them is the lost underground city of the Grand Canyon. In 1909, there was a story that appeared in the Arizona Gazette that an ancient underground citadel had been discovered. There have been discoveries which could prove that the race which inhabited this mysterious cavern was possibly from Egypt, tracing back to Ramses. There are also pyramids that have been discovered along with war weapons and copper instruments, and rumors of a tomb full of mummies. Why wouldn’t Indy want in on this action!? More info.

The Emerald Tablets

What I like about this is that it doesn’t exist anymore. There’s no information on the author, origin, or location of the Emerald tablets. The first known appearance of the tablets are in an Arabic book written between the sixth and eighth centuries. The original text was ancient Syriac and it was first translated into Latin in the twelfth century. This tablet is considered to be the most important document in the field of alchemy. Supposedly it presents information regarding the philosopher’s stone, which is a substance that is able to turn base metals into gold. More info.

The Golden Plates

If you are familiar with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, then you know about the Book of Mormon, which was translated from a collection of golden plates discovered by Joseph Smith in Manchester, New York in 1823. He was led to the location by an angel named Moroni and along with the plates, he found a sword and other artifacts. The text was written in “reformed Egyptian,” and Smith only showed the plates to a handful of people. Even if you don’t believe in the religion, the book still contains a ton of incredible stories about the people who inhabited the continent, and there are a lot of legends and mysteries revolving around the plates, which the angel took back when Smith was finished translating them. These Golden Plates could take Jones on one hell of a great expedition. More info.

Judaculla Rock

This is apparently one of the greatest archeological mysteries of the North America. It was discovered in Cullowhee, North Carolina in the 1800s. The rock has all kinds of markings, writings, drawings, and spidery lines. The mysterious symbols could be more than 10,000 years old, but no one has been able to decipher it and they don’t know its true origin or purpose. The Cherokee Indians regard the boulder as having spiritual significance. Is it some kind of prehistoric code of a secret message for future generations of humanity? Maybe Indiana Jones can find out! More info.

The Spider Rock Treasure

In 1902 and 1910, three mysterious stones were discovered in three different parts of central Texas. They were discovered by a man named Dave M. Arnold along with some other local landowners. The stones each had hieroglyphic symbols that have never been deciphered, but they are believed to be a map that leads to the legendary “Spider Rock” Spanish treasure. It’s lead many explorers on a journey to find lost gold, but if anyone has the ability and know-how to find it, it’s Indiana Jones. More info.

Shin-Au-Av, The Ancient Underground City Beneath Death Valley

Archeological Mysteries/Discoveries That Could Spark INDIANA JONES’ Next Adventure

I had no idea there was a secret hidden city under the Death Valley desert, but apparently it’s there! It’s a 5,000-year-old underground city that was apparently once inhabited by an unknown race. They were discovered in 1920 by the grandfather of a man named Tom Wilson, and when he found it, there were supposedly people living there who spoke an unknown language. Visitors of this city have claimed to have seen strange mummies and old ancient artifacts. There are a lot of strange stories revolving around the city that were passed down by the Paiute Indians. There’s a lot of incredibly fascinating stuff regarding this underground city, and it would be fun to see Jones try and uncover the mysteries of it. More info.

Skinwalker Ranch

I’d love to see an Indiana Jones movie in which he explores the legends of Native American culture. There is so much supernatural mythology and so many stories out there that could take Jones on one of his most insane adventures yet. One of the myths I’d love to see him encounter surrounds the Skinwalkers, which are a branch of Navajo witches who have the ability to turn themselves into an animal. As for Skinwalker Ranch, it borders the Ute Indian Reservation, and is a hotspot for not only these Skinwalkers, but also other paranormal activity such as UFOs, crop circles, and poltergeist activity. There’s just so much going on there, and so much mystery surrounding it, that it might be cool to see Dr. Jones trying to solve them. More info.

Does Frank Oz Have a Part to Play in STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII?

$

It sounds like Frank Oz, the man behind Yoda in the Star Wars saga, will be in Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII. The rumor comes from Making Star Wars, who says they've verified that the actor is in the UK and headed to Pinewood Studios to get in on some Episode VIII action.

There's no information on who he will be playing, but it makes us wonder if we are going to see Yoda return to the franchise in either a flashback scene or as a force ghost hanging around Rey, Finn, or Luke. The report goes on to speculate that Oz could be on the set as a consultant to help out with any puppeteer work that is being used in the movie, so there's a chance Yoda won't show up at all. The report breaks down the best case scenarios for Oz's involvement:

The best case scenario is Yoda is back and Oz is operating him. The second best scenario is that Oz is going to do the voice on set with the cast so he can interact with them and the reading has a genuine flow. The most probable scenario is he’s visiting as a consultant for something Yoda or not Yoda-related.

Regardless, Oz is an extremely talented individual and any involvement with the Star Wars franchise is a wonderfully welcome one.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Featurette — "Brothers in Arms"

After being burned by Avengers: Age of Ultron, I'm not quite as gung-ho about Captain America: Civil War as I might have been otherwise. I'm still going into the film with a sense of cautious optimism, but as we get closer to the utter insanity of Infinity War, I'm justifiably a little worried that the massive cast here could be a bad sign for the films to come. I really hope the Russo Brothers can pull this off.

Marvel has released a new featurette for the movie called Brothers in Arms, which you can check out below. Also, ComingSoon pointed out that ABC News has its own video interviews with the cast from the set of the movie that might be worth checking out, so you can watch that at the bottom of this page. Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6th.

WONDER WOMAN Release Date Moved Up, JUNGLE BOOK: ORIGINS Delayed, and Other WB Release Date News

Good news for those of you looking forward to Patty Jenkins' live-action Wonder Woman movie: now you don't have to wait as long to see it. Warner Bros. has moved the release date of the Gal Gadot-starring solo film up from June 23, 2017 to June 2, 2017. They've also slated two mysterious DC Films movies for October 5, 2018 and November 1, 2019, leaving many wondering if one of those is the solo Batman movie that's supposed to be co-written and directed by Ben Affleck. No word yet on the other project — maybe it's Dwayne Johnson's Shazam, but if I had to guess, I'd put my money on the long-gestating Lobo movie, which just hired the Wonder Woman screenwriter a couple of weeks ago.

Meanwhile, the studio has also delayed The Jungle Book: Origins from October 6, 2017 all the way back to October 19, 2018. Not to be confused with Jon Favreau's take on the story for Disney, Origins stars Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch, Eddie Marsan, Naomie Harris, Tom Hollander, Peter Mullan, and Andy Serkis. Serkis, who is also directing the movie, took to Facebook to spin the delay into good news:

I've got to say that personally I'm absolutely thrilled that Warner Brothers have changed the delivery date of Jungle...

Posted by Andy Serkis on Wednesday, April 6, 2016

An untitled Warner Bros. "event film" has slid into that vacated October 6, 2017 release slot, but again, there's no word about what that would be. Seems too soon for another Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts movie, and The LEGO Movie 2 already has a 2018 date, so maybe The LEGO Ninjago film? We'll find out soon enough.
