Is This The Title of Sony and Marvel's New SPIDER-MAN Movie?

$

We've seen plenty of cases in which studios reveal the names of upcoming films by registering URLs ahead of time, and that may have happened with Sony and Marvel Studios' upcoming co-production of Tom Holland's new Spider-Man film.

The BBC noticed that Sony registered the website SpiderManHomecomingTheMovie.com last week, leading many to speculate if the new title for the movie will be Spider-Man: Homecoming. "Homecoming" is the name of The Amazing Spider-Man issue #252, which featured Spidey returning to New York after the events of Secret Wars and included appearances by Iron Man, Captain America, Wasp, Hawkeye, and Thor. Since we know that MCU characters will be able to appear in Sony's Spider-Man movies, it doesn't seem too far-fetched to assume there could be a cameo from one or more of those heroes. The issue also marked the first appearance of the symbiote suite that would become Venom, though it seems unlikely that character would show up in this film since the studio apparently has other plans for the character.

Holland is making his debut as the web-slinger in Captain America: Civil War before swinging over to his own movie that will be released on July 7, 2017. So far, we know that film will co-star Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and Zendaya as a character named Michelle, and it's being written by Vacation screenwriters Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis DaleyJon Watts (Cop Car, Clown) is directing. What do you think about the potential title?

GAME OF THRONES Getting HBO Aftershow AFTER THE THRONES For Season 6

HBO is getting into the aftershow business.

Following in the footsteps of AMC's The Talking Dead and Talking Bad, the premium network is launching an aftershow for its own wildly successful series, Game of Thrones, called After The Thrones. This is the first show that's part of the network's collaboration with former Grantlander Bill Simmons, who will executive produce while Andy Greenwald and Chris Ryan, the hosts of Grantland's Watch The Thrones podcast, take hosting duties. The first episode will debut on April 25th, a day after the season six premiere of Game of Thrones, and it sounds like all of the new episodes will follow that same pattern of airing the Monday after each new episode of GOT.

I've never heard Greenwald and Ryan's previous podcast, so I'm not sure what kind of hosts they'll be, but I have to admit that I was a little relieved to hear Chris Hardwick doesn't have anything to do with this aftershow. I'm pretty much Hardwicked out at this point.

Each week, AFTER THE THRONES will recap the latest episode, explaining the who, what, when and where, exploring the complicated politics and history of “Thrones,” and offering absurd and not-so-absurd theories about future episodes. Greenwald and Ryan will discuss the show as only they can.

Are you going to tune in?

First Cyborg Olympics Happening This October

The first Cyborg Olympics, or Cybathalon, will hold its inaugural games this October, according to IGN. The first games will be held in Switzerland, and will encourage competitors to utilize technology in order to better compete in the games. Event organizer Robert Reiner created the event after experiencing his own struggles with day-to-day living and utilizing prosthetics. Reiner hopes that the games will spark interest and spotlight innovation within the field to give a better quality of life to those who utilize them.

I love the idea! We are always seeing prototypes of stuff like this that is supposedly designed to help people, yet we never see it in a practical environment! I hope they broadcast the event!

IRON FIST Hires Jessica Henwick, Another GAME OF THRONES Alum, To Play Colleen Wing

Marvel and Netflix's Iron Fist has grabbed another cast member.

The producers already hired Game of Thrones actor Finn Jones to play Danny Rand (aka Iron Fist), and now they've hired Jessica Henwick, another actor from the HBO series, to play Colleen Wing. (Henwick plays Nymeria Sand on GOT and also had a very small role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.)

A martial arts expert running her own dojo, Colleen will serve as an invaluable ally to Danny Rand as he returns to his life in New York. In the comics, Colleen first appeared in MARVEL PREMIERE #19 as one of Danny’s first friends after he left K’un-L’un.

Colleen teamed up with Misty Knight in the comics to form a company called Nightwing Restorations, Ltd. after her grandfather trained her as a samurai. You can read much more about the character here.

“I’m very excited to have Jessica as our Colleen Wing,” said Executive Producer and Showrunner, Scott Buck. “She’s shown us that she can bring both a sense of quiet strength as well as an engaging vulnerability to the character.”
“Jessica brings both a youthful vitality mixed with a strong sense of authority crucial to the character,” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “And as anyone who’s seen her in ‘Game of Thrones’ can attest, she can throw down with the best of them, making her the perfect Colleen Wing.”

Iron Fist doesn't have an official release date yet, but since Luke Cage is coming up in September, it's probably a safe bet that we won't see this new show until sometime in 2017.

New Attraction in China Simulates Death, Cremation, and Rebirth

A new attraction in China is bringing in loads of people with its death simulation! People sit in a room and decide one by one who gets to die. Once a person is selected, they then go into a dark room and sit there until they are "cremated." They then emerge from a birth canal and are reborn. The whole thing is pretty messed up, but it does force you to think about death and make some pretty hard decisions about it!

See a video of it all below.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens arrived on Digital HD last Friday and hits Blu-ray/DVD tomorrow, and Disney has kept the faucet open with a steady stream of clips and footage from the behind the scenes featurettes and making-of documentary that comes along with the film.

The latest official release involves a clip of Adam Driver and J.J. Abrams talking about the backstory of the villainous Kylo Ren, and then there's a really fun clip of John Boyega beatboxing, Daisy Ridley rapping, and the cast and crew dancing on set. Below that, there's a parody video from YouTuber David Unger that features Rey's flashback scene from the movie, but with Jar Jar Binks and footage from the prequels instead of the Knights of Ren and some of the other snippets we saw in the real movie.

Benedict Cumberbatch Hangs Out in Comic Book Store Dressed in Full DOCTOR STRANGE Costume

Yesterday, we wrote about some Doctor Strange set photos that were making the rounds online, and today, we have an even cooler batch for you.

Yesterday was the last day of principal photography, and the cast and crew were filming on the streets of New York City. During a break between his scenes, Cumberbatch visited JHU Comic Books dressed in his full Doctor Strange costume and posed for a couple of photos with the store owner and a copy of Brian K. Vaughan's Doctor Strange comic "The Oath."

You can even see some footage of the encounter below:

Director Scott Derrickson also stopped by, and took a photo that marked the end of the shoot:

What a cool experience this must have been for the people who worked there! They think about stuff like this all day every day, and then all of a sudden a major star is standing right there among them, dressed up like a character they've probably been reading about since childhood. Awesome. Doctor Strange hits theaters on November 4, 2016.

Sam Raimi's THE LAST OF US Feature Film Is Stuck in Development Hell

Remember that time when everyone was excited about Sam Raimi producing a feature film adaptation of the hit video game, The Last of Us? Then that excitement grew when we learned that Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams had talked with Raimi about joining the film and it looked like she was going to do it.

Well, it’s been a year and half since that news was announced, and it doesn’t sound like anything has happened to the project since. While talking to IGN, The Last of Us game director and writer of the film’s script, Neil Druckmann, said that the project is now sitting in development hell. He says:

“I know I said in an interview a while back we had a table read, got the script to a good place and it kind of entered development hell like these things tend to do. There hasn’t been any work done on it in over a year and a half.”

That’s some discouraging news. I was really excited about this and looking forward to seeing how it turned out, especially with the level of talent involved! It doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen anytime soon at this point, though. The way the movie industry works is frustrating. There’s a lot of movement on a project like this, the talent and fans are excited as hell for it, and then nothing happens! What the hell!?

I’m sure it will happen one day, but when it does there will most likely be a whole new set of talent attached to it.

In case you need a refresher:

The Last of Us follows hardened survivor Joel and Ellie, a young and capable girl, on their journey through a radically transformed world. Set twenty years after an infectious pandemic spread by the cordyceps virus ravaged the course of humanity, these two people, who were brought together by chance, must make life-altering decisions in order to survive. The Last of Us explores themes of survival, loyalty, love, and redemption in an emotionally charged expedition across a post-epidemic United States.”

If anything changes with this project, and it finally gets back on track, we’ll let you know.

Alternate Doomsday Concept Art from BATMAN V SUPERMAN

I wasn’t a big fan of the creature design that was used to bring Doomsday to life in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. All I saw was one of the giant trolls from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films. The alien monster could have looked a lot different, though. Some concept art has surfaced that was created by Vance Kovacs (Thor, Men in Black 3) and shows a very different creature design that is a bit more terrifying than what we saw in the movie. There is also concept art features some action fight scenes between the film's heroes and the destructive monster.

I also included some cool concept art by prop illustrator Daren R. Dochterman that features some of Batman’s weapons and gadgets that he used in the film. The set of wonderful toys includes Kryptonite-laced grenades, batarang with multiple cutting edges, and a grappling gun with a hammer-like handle.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Directors Reveal Whose Side Doctor Strange Is On

For those of you who haven’t heard, Doctor Strange just completed shooting! The film is now moving into post-production to complete the magic of bringing the Sorcerer Supreme to life on the big screen. We posted some photos yesterday of Benedict Cumberbatch and director Scott Derrickson popping into a New York City comic shop after they were done shooting the movie. Cumberbatch was still in full costume!

As far as we know, Doctor Strange will not be appearing in Captain America: Civil War, but that doesn’t mean he can’t choose a side! The Russo Brothers recently shared a post on Facebook revealing whose side Doctor Strange is on, and it includes a gif of Strange leaping into battle with Team Captain America:

Dr. Strange is on #TeamCap

Posted by The Russo Brothers on Monday, April 4, 2016

I’m not surprised that he'd be onTeam Cap. Hopefully, one day we get to see these two heroes fight side-by-side together in the MCU. Our best chance of seeing that happen will be in the Avengers: Infinity War films. There’s no doubt the two characters would kick some major ass together! What do you think about Strange jumping in on Team Cap?

Scarlet Witch and Vision Will Have Some “Sweet Moments” In CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

I don’t know about you, but I’m extremely pumped up for Captain America: Civil War. There’s so much greatness that we’ve seen in the trailers, and I can’t wait to see how this story arc of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers plays out on the big screen. There’s obviously a lot more to the story than that, and there are other characters that are going to get to see some serious action. Two of these characters include new MCU fan favorites Scarlet Witch and Vision, who were just introduced in Age of Ultron. These two characters have had a relationship in the comics, and it looks like maybe we’ll see that relationship start to flourish in Civil War.

While talking to ET, Elizabeth Olsen teased what we can expect to see from the characters and what connects them:

"You learn a little bit more about what connects them in this film. I think there's some really sweet moments between Paul [Bettany] and I, and it's more about how they relate to one another and their similarities just based on their superpowers.”

As you know, Vision and Scarlet Witch are both connected to the power of the Mind Stone. It helped give Scarlet Witch her powers, and it brought Vision to life. Judging from the trailer, though, the two characters also find themselves at odds fighting on different teams, and there’s one clip that we’ve seen of Scarlet Witch using her powers against Vision and pinning him down. That’s probably not the sweetest moment between the two, but at some point in this film the two will play nice.

We'll find out when Captain America: Civil War hits theaters May 6th, 2016.

Eli Roth Directed a DARK SOULS 3 Animated Short and It’s Pretty Cool

I’m not the biggest fan of the films that director Eli Roth has made over the years. There’s just no real substance to them, but Bandia Namco just released an animated short film for Dark Souls 3 called "The Witches" that was directed by Roth. This might be the most impressive thing that he’s done. The animation is a bit crude, but it’s still a fun and entertaining short. And yes, of course, the short includes the kind of gratuitous violence that we’ve come to expect from Roth.

The short follows a Medieval-style knight searching a dark castle for something when he comes across a room with a trio of evil witches, and from there all hell breaks loose. I also included a behind-the-scenes video featuring Roth talking about the short in which he explains:

“I’ve always loved Medieval History. I’ve always wanted to do something that was in the space with knights and fire.”

This is what he came up with. Check it out and tell us what you think!

SHARKNADO 4 Gets an Absurd STAR WARS-Themed Title and Premiere Date

I don’t know why, but for some reason people love these stupid-ass Sharknado movies. There’s a fourth film currently in production, and it has been given groan-worthy Star Wars-inspired title. The film is called Sharknado: The 4th Awakens, and according to TV Line it will premiere on Sunday, July 31sh. I’m sure fans of this franchise will love the title.

The two-hour original movie will pick up five years after last summer’s Oh Hell No! three-quel, with Ian Ziering’s Fin enjoying a sharknado-free existence… until the natural disasters begin cropping up in expected places.

Tara Reid will return to the franchise to reveal the outcome of the #AprilLives or #AprilDies social campaign. Sharknado 3 stars David Hasselhoff and Ryan Newman will also be back for more action. Some of the new cast members for The 4th Awakens include Gary Busey as April’s dad, Cheryl Tiegs as Fin’s mom, Tommy Davidson, Imani Hakim, Cody Linley, and Masiela Lusha.

I couldn’t even get through the first Sharknado film, and I haven’t even attempted to watch the others. Obviously, I’m not a big fan of the franchise. But if you are a fan... rock on!

LEGEND OF ZELDA’s Link Ends Up in Bikini Bottom and Mordor in “Wrong Turn” Fan Art

I’ve got a couple of great pieces here for you to check out from artist Kris Wimberly featuring Link from The Legend of Zelda franchise. The art set is called “Wrong Turn,” and it features the popular fantasy character ending up in SpongeBob Squarepants’ Bikini Bottom and Mordor from The Lord of the Rings. I always enjoy seeing popular characters crossing over into other universes, and Link making a wrong turn on his adventure and ending up in Bikini Bottom and Mordor is pretty damn amusing.

The Evolution of Spider-Man in Movies Explored in Short Fan Doc

the-evolution-of-spider-man-in-movies-explored-in-short-fan-doc

With Marvel introducing a new version of Spider-Man in their cinematic universe soon, ScreenRant has released a short video doc that explores the evolution of Spider-Man in film over the years. It's fun to take a look back at all the different versions of Spider-Man that have been created. I'm just happy that Marvel and Sony aren't going to retell the origin story of the character again. They're just going to jump right into the action when he fights alongside Tony Stark in Captain America: Civil War! After that he'll get his own solo film, which is rumored to be titled Spider-Man: Homecoming. While we wait for more information on the new Spider-Man, here's what the fan doc offers:

No matter how many heroes may be re-imagined, rebooted, or replaced, and with more and more comic book superheroes being introduced every year, Spider-Man remains one of the most beloved, relatable, and recognizable around the world. Taking that kind of success and moving it to the big screen is harder than it sounds, as a few directors have already learned - with more lessons still coming. As Spider-Man makes his journey to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, what better time is there to take a look back at the hero's movie outings, in our latest Docu video, The Evolution of Spider-Man in Movies.
