Here is the deal. I am still stuck in a glass cage of emotion over Batman v Superman. Part of me wants to think of it as an enjoyable and something that I would like to watch again. Then there is another part of me that wants to throw it in a well and never look back. A lot of my hatred is due to the Aquaman scene. It made me feel uncomfortable and sad for Jason Mamoa. I will get into that at another time. Let’s focus on what we came here for.
In a terribly awkward and clunky way we were shown what some of the other members of the Justice League look like. So, were they trying to say that Lex Luthor came up with the names of some of our favorite superheroes? Anyway, I am guessing that the little glimpse into their lives was supposed to pique our interest or something.
In a very interesting interview with Forbes, BvS producer and wife of Zack, Deborah Snyder touched on a number of subjects surrounding her husband’s work. I particularly enjoyed the segment on how Sucker Punch is a good movie. The article is totally worth a read; however, I feel the most interesting thing she said was this:
"David Ayer’s Suicide Squad has such an amazing, brash tone. It’s fun and it’s about the villains, and it’s super-different than Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman, which is an origin story and tells her story. As you can imagine, when we get to the Flash movie, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher — who plays Cyborg — are kind of our youngest characters, and they have a really nice comradery with each other. Ezra is super funny, so the tone of that film will be very different than the rest of them."
The way she words that suggests that Cyborg will be joining in on the Flash’s solo movie. This just makes me think that DC is finally using elements from the MCU movie making model. This is a good thing because we as the collective fandom enjoy it when our heroes get some backup in their solo films.
Those who know me know that this Flash movie is a very touchy subject. The Flash is my favorite DC hero and I have been waiting a long time for a Flash movie to come out. I was even more excited when I saw Grant Gustin’s portrayal of Barry Allen and all was right in the world. Then Snyder went and cast Ezra Miller to play The Scarlet Speedster in the DCU and the wind went out of my sails. Please don’t get me wrong, Miller is a very talented young actor, but he doesn’t fit as Barry Allen in my mind. I understand the trend to cast actors that don’t exactly fit the traditional mold of a character, I do. However, it just doesn’t work sometimes.
I am hoping that Miller can pull it off. The inclusion of Cyborg gives me hope that this might be a bearable movie to watch. Does this give anyone else hope?
