Honest Trailer for Marvel's AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

0
0

While Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. had a rocky start, each new season has seen a better show emerge from its hastily produced first season. I still watching the show despite many in the GeekTyrant staff falling off fairly early. It's crazy how much this show has to do on a small budget and short deadlines, and while overlapping somewhat with what's happening in the movies while having zero impact on said movies.

The Screen Junkies team has given Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. the "Honest Trailer" treatment and really nails what's so amazing and awful about the show. BTW - the show just keeps better, please give it a second chance if you haven't done so already.

Zack Snyder Asked Christopher Nolan for His Blessing to Reboot Batman

0
0

After Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy concluded, we all knew it would only be a matter of time before Warner Bros. rebooted the character and franchise again. It's what they do! Zack Snyder is now leading the charge on those projects.

Nolan served as an executive producer on Man of Steel, but he has no hand in the upcoming DCEU movies. When Snyder found out what the studio wanted to do next, which involved Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, he went to Nolan to ask for his blessing. Snyder told Empire the story:

"'You tell me if you don’t want me to do it,' Snyder told Nolan. After a silence, Nolan said, 'Well, we don’t own these characters. When you’re done making Batman movies, someone else will [make them].'"

There's really no way around it, and Snyder admitted that he thinks Nolan was a little bummed out:

“I think he found it a little bit hard. I would feel the same way.”

We are obviously getting a completely different take on the superhero now, and that's totally ok because it's separate from what Nolan did. It's not like someone is trying to continue what Nolan did. His films stand on their own. They are amazing films, and it will be interesting to see if Snyder can hit the bar that Nolan set.

Snyder went on to talk about creating the story and the intimacy of the conflict between the two heroes.

“In a lot of ways Batman v Superman is a very personal concept. It is just two people trying to understand each other’s point of view.”

This sure does make for a compelling story, and I hope that Snyder can pull off something amazing. I know the film is going to look amazing visually, but this better have a tight story and not be like Man of Steel, which was a mess.

Rob Zombie’s 31 Is a Blood-filled Gorefest - Sundance Review

if-youre-a-rob-zombie-fan-youll-probably-like-31-sundance-review

The films of Rob Zombie are interesting to me, but I've never liked any of them. I don't think he's a very good filmmaker, but I'm always curious to see what he does next. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because he throws a bunch of crazy weird shit out there that we don't normally get to see in most movies.

His latest film, 31, premiered at Sundance and so I decided to give it a shot. If you're a fan of Zombie's movies makes, then you will most likely enjoy this movie. I didn't like the movie at all. Zombie has really done nothing to improve his skills as a filmmaker. He's still just making the same old crap that involves crazy redneck people going on murderous rages and brutally killing people.

The movie is almost a carbon copy of A House of a 1000 Corpses but with a slightly different plot. 31 follows five carnival workers who are kidnapped by a silly Eyes Wide Shut kind of secret society and thrown into an abandoned compound where they are forced to survive a violent game over the next twelve hours while insane people dressed as clowns try to kill them. The film takes place on Halloween, and it's basically a Halloween maze of death and chaos. I'm sure we'll see a real maze like this at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios, but without the real death.

It all starts with them being hunted down by a Mexican Nazi midget, and it just escalates and gets more jacked up from there. As you may have heard, the MPAA has given this film an NC-17 rating, which I think is appropriate for the subject matter and the amount of blood, gore, and violence that is in this movie. It's completely over the top in every way. I will say that the practical blood and gore effects in the movie were pretty incredible, and that was the best part of the movie. Unfortunately, it lacked in everything else.

The main reason I didn't like the film, though, was because it was completely unoriginal, and even though there's a lot of crazy shit that goes down, I just found it boring. Why? Because, well... I've already seen it! Then there's the acting, whch was atrocious. Unsurprisingly, the movie stars Zombie's wife Sherry Moon Zombie. That's just something you're going to get with Zombie's movies. It's so hard watching her, though, because she's not a very good actress. She does have her charm, though, and that's why she has a fanbase. The movie also stars Malcolm McDowell and Meg Foster.

I would like to see Zombie actually do something with substance. The guy has the ability to keep making movies, and I'd like to see him push himself to actually make a film that isn't like everything else he's done. It's just getting old. I'd like to see him make some kind of retro-style monster movie or something. The guy seems to have a love for those kinds of films.

I am curious to see what the fans of Rob Zombie will say about this movie. If you're ok with seeing the same stuff over and over again, then I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

The DeLorean Is Making a Comeback and Going Back Into Production!

the-delorean-is-making-a-comeback-and-going-back-in-production

For anyone who has ever dreamed of owning a DeLorean, which was made famous by the Back to the Future films, now have your chance if you have the money.

After 35 years, the DeLorean is going to make an epic comeback. Wynne and DeLorean Motors are actually going back into production! How freakin' cool is that!? This version isn't going to have a new modern updated design. They're using the same exact design of the classic 1982 car. CEO Stephen Wynne told KPRC:

"It's fantastic. It's a game-changer for us. We've been wanting this to happen."

Wynne and DeLorean Motors will manufacture the cars in America for the first time, and they plan on building about 300 new cars, which will retail for around $100,000. They will be coming in 2017, and the car will have 300-400 horsepower.

So if you have that kind of money and you want a DeLorean... Lucky you! For more information and details regarding the car and its specs, click here.

BIRTH OF A NATION Is a Must See Powerful and Emotional Film - Sundance Review

0
0

The Birth of a Nation is one of the best and most powerfully bold films at Sundance this year. This is one of those movies that I can see being nominated for a ton of awards at the Oscars. The movie is based on a true story that I had never heard before, and it sure did leave a lasting impression.

Nate Parker wrote, directed, produced, and starred in the film. This is an incredible feat, especially after you see what he actually accomplished with a budget of $10 million. It was stunning. When the movie was over the audience was swelling with emotion. There was a reverence in the theater that I haven't felt from a movie theater audience in a long time.

The film is based on the 1831 true story of Nate Parker, a slave who rose up and led a rebellion against their masters in Southampton County, Virginia. Parker learned to read at a young age and ended up becoming a preacher who traveled the country preaching to slaves to obey their masters. As he is doing this he sees the hardships of other slaves and the awful conditions that they are living in. This inspires him to form a small army to kill the people that oppress them.

The film also has a strong and talented supporting cast that includes Armie Hammer, Aja Naomi King, Jackie Earle Haley, Penelope Ann Miller, and Gabrielle Union. All of them give stellar performances, and this is easily Hammer's best performance in a film yet.

This is an extremely difficult film to watch as they don't hold back the brutality of slave life back then. This was a hard story to watch unfold, but it's a story that people need to know about, and it's a movie that needs to be seen! You will get your chance as Fox Searchlight picked it up for a record breaking 17.5 million dollars. That should prove to you how good and important this movie is.

This film is going to make waves when it's released. Everyone is going to be talking about it because of the impact that it will have on the people watching it.

FUND THIS MOVIE: Phantasm Gets Her Day In Fan Made BATMAN: DEATH OF A CITY

0
0

I love me a fan film just as much as I hate the DMCA notices that keep me from watching them. Today I saw a trailer on CBR for a project that definitely deserves some funding and to be seen by all Batman fans. "Batman: Death Of A City" follows Jim Gordon and Harvey Bullock as they encounter one of the worst nights in the underbelly of Gotham. What the film lacks in Batman, it makes up for in rogues Phantasm, Bane, and the New 52 iteration of Joker. It also looks to be a much more graphic adventure than you're used too.

Don't let the label of "fan film" dissuade you...this is some high quality.

The project is still in development and needs our help. As it stands they are not nearly close to their $30k Kickstarter goal. That seems like a lot for a fan film, but the filmmakers justify it well...

For BATMAN: DEATH OF A CITY we want to go much larger with sequences that call for pyrotechnics, wire-work and heavy prosthetics, as well as CG and large scale lighting set-ups.

If you're still not sure director Nicholas Kedrock can deliver on that graphic nature truly only explored in the comics...take a look at his film reel. This guy's style screams the gritty world of Gotham!

Kit Harington Makes Some Harsh Statements about Jon Snow’s Fate in GAME OF THRONES Season 6

0
0

Spoiler alert! Bear in mind that if you haven’t watched season 5 of Game of Thrones and keep reading, you might just come across some spoilers.

The season finale of the show sparked debates among fans regarding the fate of the character who knows the least of them all – Jon Snow. Now speculations might come to an end as Kit Harington had something to say about his character.

In an interview with Digital Spy he shared:

"I was hoping that there would be an outcry of 'why?' and 'oh god, no, no' rather than 'thank god.' That was the right reaction as far as I was concerned! People didn't want me to die, but he's dead. So there you go, everyone has to get used to it."

But is Kit Harington splashing delusions into our eyes and will he, at the end, prove to know nothing just like Snow?

However, to rub salt in the wound he also added;

"I haven't done Thrones in a while. I had quite a lot of time off last year. I've been taking it easy. And relaxing. When I realized I was doing this, I had a few months to prepare for it, and something like this takes some working through before even getting into the rehearsal room."

The rehearsal he mentioned is for Colin Teevan’s version of Christopher Marlowe's play Doctor Faustus. Fans of Harington can see him acting at the Duke of York's Theater in London's West End from 9 April to 4 June 2016.

I Have Real Beef With How They Handled (Spoilers) On Last Night's ARROW

0
0

I'm still scratching my head after last nights Arrow. Did I really just see Amanda Waller get killed on screen and NO ONE give a s***?! The head of ARGUS, one of the main antiheroes in DC comics? For those who missed it, it basically went down like this.

Waller: "Lyla will tell you that I'd rather everyone in this room die before I give you the access codes."

Lyla: "Yeah, true."

Villain of the week: "K." *shoots Waller in head*

The dialogue is an exaggeration but the whole encounter happened in a process of five seconds. IT WASN'T EVEN THE FOCUS OF THE EPISODE! At the end we're supposed to feel warm and fuzzy because Diggle reconnected with his brother and the plan was a success...EXCEPT THE HEAD OF ARGUS WAS DEAD.

Don't get me wrong, Waller is a pain in the ass to DC Heroes, but the characters in the show didn't dedicate more than a job well done shot of liquor to her memory. Then Felicity makes some sarcastic remark, and it's meant to elicit a smirk or something... but it was really messed up considering the transition of Oliver into the Green Arrow.

Maybe it was a red herring? Maybe she's not dead?

Nah. She's dead.

In my mind it was a huge misstep for the writers in a season that has been leaps and bounds above last season. Removing Waller removes ARGUS, which removes a large subplot of the show that takes up the bulk of the filler episodes. Having Waller in any hero series always shows the fine line heroes walk in collaborating with a government that is simultaneously preparing for battle against them. Hell, I was hoping we would see a future ARGUS vs. Oliver season!

My only thought, and I pray this is not the case because it would piss me off beyond belief, is that they killed off Waller to not draw comparison to the Amanda Waller that will soon be appearing in Suicide Squad. I would hope they wouldn't do that after being very clear how separate their film and television universes are, but what other reason could there be to kill off such a big character for a relatively small plot device?

Am I crazy on this? Am I making a mountain out of a mole hill?

Remember TROLLS from the 90s? Well, Here's a Trailer for the Movie

remember-trolls-toys-from-the-90s-well-heres-a-trailer-for-the-movie1

20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for their animated film Trolls, which is based on the popular toys from the 1990s. I know the trailer doesn't show much, and you can't really tell how good or bad its going to be, but it certainly looks like it will be ridiculous. This is coming from a guy who was never into the Troll dolls, though.

Here's the synopsis:

DreamWorks' TROLLS is a hair-raising comedy filled with unbelievable adventure and incredible music. Known for their crazy, colorful, and magical hair, Trolls are the happiest, most joyous creatures ever to burst into song. But their world of rainbows and cupcakes is changed forever when their leader Poppy (Anna Kendrick,) must embark on a rescue mission that takes her far beyond the only world she’s ever known.

The film stars Anna Kendrick as Princess Poppy, James Corden as Biggie, Russell Brand as Creek, Gwen Stefani as DJ Suki, YouTube personality GloZell Green as Grandma Rosiepuff, Kunal Nayyar as Guy Diamond, Ron Funches as Cooper, YouTube personality Meg DeAngelis as Moxie, and Swedish electropop duo Icona Pop as the Fashionistas.

Yeah, I can't say I'm very excited about this one. I'm sure my kids will enjoy it, even though they've never even heard of Trolls. At least, I don't think they have.

The movie was directed by Mike Mitchell and Walt Dohrn, who worked on Shrek Forever After. The movie opens in theaters on November 4th, 2016.

You Can Now Own Poe's Jacket Just Like Finn!

If there's one thing we can all agree on about Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it's that Poe Dameron had one badass jacket. I'll concede it's a little weird for a man to bestow his jacket on another man, but had I been in Finn's place I wouldn't have even asked a polite "You're sure?" before stuffing it in my closet!

Now, thanks to Film Jackets, we can pretend Poe gave us the jacket. $179 dollars isn't cheap, I'll admit, but I'm the closest I've ever been to spending more on one article of clothing than I have on my entire wardrobe. Order it here!

Guy Breaks Down All That Is Wrong With THE BIG BANG THEORY In 20 Seconds

0
0

There's nothing wrong with you if you like watching The Big Bang Theory. There may be something wrong with you, however, if you think it is an accurate representation of geek culture. Granted, I'm not a professor of science at a university, nor have I ever been friends with one, so maybe this is exactly how they live there lives. Maybe they really do breeze through complex equations and stammer and squeal in the presence of attractive women yet still manage to sleep with them.

What I do know is this. Big Bang Theory is a show that more or less teases geek culture, rather than praise it. The majority of people who watch it aren't geeks, and that's obscenely obvious in situations such as the one Lyle McDouchebag shows us here.

David Bowie Auditioned for a Role in Peter Jackson's THE LORD OF THE RINGS

Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings could have been interestingly different if David Bowie were cast in it. The actor, who played the famous Goblin King in Labyrinth, auditioned for a role in the fantasy epic. The news came from Dominic Monaghan, who said he saw Bowie go in for an audition. The actor told The Huffington Post

"I was at the Hubbard's, which is a pretty notorious casting agency office in London, doing an audition for Lord of the Rings, and when it ended I went over and talked to John Hubbard, who was running the audition, and he said, 'Hey, it went really well. You should wait around for 5 or 10 mins. We'll give you some feedback. I thought, 'Oh, OK, cool, and I sat in the reception office. As I was reading a magazine waiting, David Bowie came in and signed his little list and went in. And I'm assuming he read for Gandalf. I can't think of anything else he would've read for. He may have read for something else, but I'm a huge David Bowie fan, and I was lucky enough to know his son now so just seeing him in person was pretty special to me."

It's rumored that Bowie actually wanted to take on the role of Elrond, the elf lord of Rivendell. I have to admit, even though I loved Hugo Weaving in the part, Bowie would have been just as awesome in the role! It's not hard to imagine him in it, but that didn't happen. When casting for the film Jackson didn't really want famous stars playing characters in the film. He said:

"To have a famous, beloved character and a famous star colliding is slightly uncomfortable."

This is just one of those cool "what if" scenarios. Bowie would have been great.

Catherine Tate Shows Interest in Returning to DOCTOR WHO

0
0

While she doesn't think it's all that likely, Catherine Tate says she would like to see Donna Noble back in the Doctor Who universe once again. Mirror reports that in an interview with Lorraine Kelly Tate expressed interest in returning to the series and laughed at the suggestion she could be Donna's great-great-grandmother or granddaughter. Tate replied with enthusiasm for the show and its writers,

"They do tend to find really clever ways of bringing people back where you think, 'There's no way.'"

She then followed it up with a statement that she does believe that if she returned it could not be as Donna Noble.

"With my character I don't think she could because of the nature of how she left ... she sort of can't come back."

That's not necessarily true with some of the whackier story lines Steven Moffat has thrown at us the past couple years. Personally. I think Doctor Donna making a return, while impossible, would be a cool for a one off for the character. Make it like a two hour special where Donna regains her powers and sacrifices herself to save humanity in "The Year Without A Doctor."

Look at that idea... BBC, you guys still need a showrunner?

Dad Builds Awesome STAR TREK Playset for Son

Fatherhood the final frontier...

Fatherhood the final frontier...

Instructables maker David Weiberg, aka D_Weiberg, created a Star Trek bridge playset for his son. What inspired this creation? Weiberg in his own words:

This project started when I found my old Star Trek TOS playmates figures. I gave them to my eight year old son who had become a fan of the old show. He began building simple cardboard play pieces. Inspired by the clean wooden design of some of his other toys I set out to design and create a modular play set that he could use to assemble various rooms aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise. I wanted a set that could break down and store easily. I tried to use scrap materials where I could. The bridge was the biggest challenge so I started there.

It's amazing to see all the work and detail that went into it. I really like that it comes apart and lets the kid configure his own custom bridge. That's parenting done right. Well done, sir!
