Trailer for THE BARRENS Horror Thriller with Stephen Moyer

0
0

Anchor Bay and Voltage Pictures have released a new trailer for their upcoming Darren Lynn Bousman horror thriller called The Barrens, starring True Blood's Stephen Moyer. The story follows a father who takes his family out on a camping trip in the forests of southern New Jersey. It's in these woods where he encounters... The Devil!

The twistedly creepy looking film also stars Mia Kirshner (The Vampire Diaries), Erik Knudsen (Scream 4) and Allie MacDonald (House At The End Of The Street). If you're a fan of horror flicks then this looks like something worth watching at some point.

Here's the Synopsis:

It’s known as the Jersey Devil, the winged beast spawned 400 years ago by Satan himself. Some say this creature still inhabits the dense pine forests of southern New Jersey, where Richard Vineyard (Moyer) takes his family for a rustic weekend camping trip. As the Vineyard family ventures further into the woods in search of the perfect campsite, Richard teeters on the edge of sanity. Welcome to a new kind of horror that lives – and kills – in a place called The Barrens.

The movie gets a limited theatrical run on September 28th, and then comes out on DVD, and Blu-ray on October 9th. Check out the trailer

Comedy Director Todd Phillips to Develop THE GAMBLER Remake

Director Todd Phillips, who is mostly know for directing comedies such as The Hangover, Old School and Due Date, is venturing into new movie genre territory. He's currently in talks with Paramount Pictures to direct a remake of the 1974 James Caan gambling crime drama The Gambler

Martin Scorsese was attached to direct the movie at one point, with a script written by William Monahan, who wrote the script for The Departed. It's crazy to think that Phillips is kind of stepping into the shoes of Scorsese for this next project. I'm surprised he's taking it on, but I think he'll do a good job with it. I'm glad he's expanding his horizon and doing something different. It will make him a better director.

The story follows Alex Freed, a literature professor at UCLA who has gambling problem. When he has lost all his money, he borrows from his girlfriend, then his mother and finally borrows some from some gangsters which isn't good for him. Despite of all this he cannot stop gambling.

I liked the original movie, and I'm interested to see Phillips take it on. What do you think about the director trying something new? I wish more directors would.

Actress Lindy Booth is in talks to play Night Bitch in Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall. Jeff Wadlow is directing the film while the original Kick-Ass director Mathew Vaughn is producing.

Night Bitch is one of the new superheroes that was inspired by Kick-Ass and the rise of the other Superheroes. She claims that the main driving force behind what she does was the murder of her sister, who she claims was found in a dumpster. Her identity is secret, and her origin story about her dead sister is questionable. Several of the heroes have lied about their origins. She's armed with a long pole that matches the colour of her costume, and she joined Justice Forever and participated in their first mission.

The movie is scheduled to start shooting in September in Toronto and New York. Booth, who has been in films such as the Dawn of the Dead remake; Wrong Turn and Cry Wolf, will join Aaron Johnson, Chloe MoretzChristopher Mintz-Plasse, and newcomers Donald FaisonJohn Leguizamo, and maybe Jim Carrey as Justice Forever superheroes.

Warner Bros. Developing Epic PONTIUS PILATE Biblical Film

0
0

Warner Bros. has just picked up a script to a new biblical film called Pontius Pilate, from screenwriter Vera Blasi (Tortilla Soup, Woman On Top and Emperor), based on the man who sent Jesus Christ to his death. This sounds like it will be an incredible film project, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

According to Deadline who has read the script, the story follows "the evolution of Lucius Pontius Pilate from the sensitive son of a Roman Knight into a ferocious soldier whose warrior exploits make him a general and puts him on a political track under the Roman Emperor Tiberius. Promised a military governorship in Egypt, Pilate is instead assigned by Tiberius to become the prefect of Judea, at a time when Jerusalem was a cauldron of religious tensions between various factions of the Jewish faith. Pilate veers from the political fast track into the express lane to hell and historical infamy. Rather than a straight ahead Biblical film, Blasi’s script reads almost like a Biblical era Twilight Zone episode in which a proud, capable Roman soldier gets in way over his head. His arrogance and inability to grasp the devoutness of the citizenry and its hatred for the Roman occupiers and their pagan gods leads him to make catastrophic decisions. All of this puts him in a desperate situation and in need of public approval when he is asked to decide the fate of a 33-year old rabbi accused by religious elders of claiming he is King of the Jews. Along the way, such Roman emperors including Caligula and Tiberius and New Testament figures like John the Baptist, Salome and Mary Magdalene are seen in a tale that culminates with Pilate’s fateful decision to allow Jesus Christ to be crucified."

This sounds like it could be a great intense movie. This seems like it will have the same epic feel of some of those old-school biblical inspired films like The Ten Commandments, Spartacus and Ben-Hur. Then there's other comparable films such as Gladiator, Braveheart and Passion of the Christ which are mentioned in Deadline's rundown of the script saying that it had "the twists and unexpected turns that satisfyingly combine history, political maneuvering and storytelling inventions reminiscent of such films as Braveheart and Gladiator. Blasi has also taken the care to explain the motivations of religious leaders like the Jewish high priest Caiaphas (who engineers Christ’s demise) as these leaders tried to bring varying religious sects under one roof, and the script doesn’t have the polarizing chill some felt in The Passion of the Christ."

The screenwriter spent 10 years researching Pontius Pilate, and claims the script she wrote is 80% fact based, which is pretty impressive.

Other biblical films being developed in Hollywood right now include, Darren Aronfsky's Noah, Will Smith's Cain and Able movie, Mel Gibson's Judah Macabee, Steven Spielberg's Moses film Gods and Kings, and Basic Instinct director Paul Verhoeven is directing a movie about Christ.

I hope this Pontius Pilate movie turns out as good as I imagine it being. What do you think about a movie being made on this historical biblical figure?

Poster for Steven Spielberg's LINCOLN Unveiled!

DreamWorks has released the first poster for Steven Spielberg's new movie Lincoln featuring Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln, and holy crap he looks amazing! It's crazy how much he looks like Lincoln! I also have no doubt that his performance is going to be incredible. I haven't seen any footage yet, but knowing Day-Lewis he's probably going to end up winning the best actor award at the Oscars.

The movie is a revealing drama that focuses on the 16th President’s tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come. The story is based in part on the book Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin.

The movie also stars Sally Field, David Strathairn, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Spader, Hal Holbrook and Tommy Lee Jones. Lincoln will get a limited release on November 9th, 2012, with expansion on November 16th.

I've been waiting for this movie since it was first announced years ago, and I can't wait to finally see it!

Four WALKING DEAD EW Magazine Covers

Entertainment Weekly has unveiled four new magazine covers featuring characters from AMC's The Walking Dead. I'm excited about the upcoming season, the last promo trailer released for it was pretty bloody fantastic! This next season will be focusing on two different worlds colliding when Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and company have to face-off against the Governor (David Morrissey) and the town of Woodbury, Ga., after they take over a prison overrun by zombies.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like these two communities are going to get along very well in this new post-apocalyptic world in which they live. The Walking Dead creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman had this to say,

This season really is about setting up these two worlds and watching them come to a head and collide, and you know that there are going to be some pretty explosive encounters between Rick and the Governor. This season is going to be about getting to know these two characters, and then waiting for their eventual confrontation that could destroy everything.

We're definitely in for an awesomely intense third season! I hope it turns out being the best season yet! The four covers include Rick Grimes, the Governor, Michonne (Danai Gurira) and brothers Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Merle (Michael Rooker).

AMC also recently announced that a new character has been created for the show, and they've cast Dallas Roberst to play him. Here's a description of this new character from Kirkman,

Milton is the details guyHe’s the guy that works with the Governor, who is monitoring all situations and is trying to help the Governor make sense of this world that they’re living in. He’s not exactly a scientist, but he’s a smart guy that is trying to find out how zombies behave. Watching him do his little experiments is going to be a lot of fun.

The Walking Dead comes back to life on Sunday October 14th at 9pm on AMC! I can't wait!

RED 2 Teaser Poster

Summit Entertainment has released the first teaser poster for Red 2, which doesn't even start shooting until next spring. I guess their excited about the film and want to start building some hype. The poster teases the return of Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker, and Helen Mirren as well as newcomers Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byung-Hun Lee (G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra). Anthony Hopkins might also end up being the villain, which would be great!

Galaxy Quest director Dean Parisot is developing the sequel which follows a veteran team of retired spies as they face-off and kickass against a group of new villains across Europe. I loved the first film, and I'm excited to see what's in store for these characters in the sequel! Are you excited about Red 2?

Mila Kunis, Casey Affleck and James Franco Cast in THIRD PERSON

Director Paul Haggis (Crash, The Next Three Days) is putting together one hell of a great cast for his next film project titled Third Person. He's already cast Liam Neeson ands Olivia Wilde in the film, but now he's bringing on Mila KunisCasey Affleck and James Franco who are all currently in negotiations.

The story follows "three inter-connected love stories of three couples in three cities, Rome, Paris and New York." The Italian-set segment revolves around a young couple on a road trip, to be played by Affleck and Moran Atias. Neeson and Wilde will play writers in the Paris-set section of the film. Kunis will play one half of an estranged couple in New York, with Franco playing her partner in the segment. Haggis had this to say in a statement,

These are complex characters in a challenging story; I'm humbled that so many talented people have placed their faith in me.

It's rare for me to find a romance film that I like, most of them I can't stand. Two love stories that I really enjoyed are The Notebook and Love Actually. Third Person has a wonderful cast, and Haggis is a solid writer and director, so hopefully this turns out to be another romance movie I will enjoy. What is one of you favorite romance films, and do you think this will end up being a good flick?

Awesomely Intense New Trailer for END OF WATCH

The more I see of David Ayer's End of Watch the more excited I get about seeing it. The movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña as two LAPD cops that find themselves in the middle of some kind of crazy drug cartel war. I love a good cop drama, and this one looks incredibly intense.

Here's the Synopsis:

A powerful story of family, friendship, love, honor and courage, End Of Watch stars Academy Award(R) nominee Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena as young Los Angeles police officers Taylor and Zavala as they patrol the city’s meanest streets of south central Los Angeles. Giving the story a gripping, first-person immediacy, the action unfolds through footage from the handheld HD cameras of the police officers, gang members, surveillance cameras, and citizens caught in the line of fire to create a riveting portrait of the city’s most dangerous corners, the cops who risk their lives there every day, and the price they and their families are forced to pay.

The movie also stars Anna Kendrick, Frank Gillo, and America Ferrera, and busts into theaters on September 21st! I think this looks like a must watch movie... what do you think?

Sam Claflin Cast as Finnick in THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE

0
0

Sam Claflin has officially been cast in the role of Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Finnick is a pretty big character in the series, and I think this might be the last big piece of casting news for Catching Fire. I don't know much about Claflin, but he most recently co-starred in Snow White and the Huntsman and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Finnick Odair is from District 4, and known for being the victor of the 65th Hunger Games, he was 14-years old. He becomes part of an alliance with Peeta Mellark, Katniss Everdeen, Wiress, Beetee, Johanna Mason, and Mags. "Katniss attributes Finnick's success to a combination of his extraordinary physical skill and his unprecedented popularity among the Capitol. Although he is a good fighter with the spears and knives, he receives many gifts.

I'm sure Claflin will be fine in the role, he seems to fit the character, who has a larger than life personality that you either love or hate. What do you think about this casting choice?

Here's the official press release:

Lionsgate and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE are pleased to announce that Sam Claflin has been cast in the role of Finnick in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel Catching Fire. Charasmatic and clever, Finnick was a District 4 Hunger Games victor when he was fourteen.

After breaking out in his role as the romantic lead in last year’s PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES, Claflin starred in the box office smash SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN playing Prince William alongside Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth. He recently finished filming THE QUIET ONES opposite Jarred Harris, and MARY & MARTHA, in which he co-stars with Hilary Swank.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE will be directed by Francis Lawrence, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the second in a trilogy that has sold more than 50 million books in print and digital in the U.S. alone.

Lionsgate will release THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE on November 22, 2013.

THE OFFICE - What You Can Expect From the 9th and Final Season

0
0

It was announced yesterday that the upcoming 9th season of NBC's The Office will be the mockumentary-style sitcom's final. This shouldn't come as that much of a surprise. I'm actually really glad they're going out somewhat on top, instead of dying a long slow death. I kinda wish they just ended it when Steve Carell decided to leave. Even though last season was still funny, it just wasn't been the same without him.

Exec producer Greg Daniels, who served as showrunner for the first five seasons, will return to to the helm for the final year. In a conference call to reporters, Daniels said, "Now that we have an end date, we can blow up things and take some chances. It's very freeing and creatively ecxiting for the audience."

So what exactly is in store for Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch in the final season of The Office? Here's what Daniels had to say:

Cast: Clark Duke and Jake Lacy will be joining the cast, and Daniels noted that "familiar faces [will be] coming back." The main cast will remain on the show, while B.J. Novak and Mindy Kaling, who have always pulled triple duties as writers and exec producers on the show, will be back in front of the camera in  diminished capacities.

"There are so many story lines to follow now, so many endings to write for different characters, risky things we wouldn't normally do if we knew we were going for a long time. If we didn't let it end this year, I don't know if we would have been able to tell the endings for so many characters that I really want to know the endings for."

Stories: One of the long standing questions about the show has always been, 'who shoots a documentary for this long?' In season 9, the identities of the documentary crew will be revealed.

"All questions will be answered this year. We'll see who's behind the documentary and we'll meet some of them."

One of the upcoming story lines will reportedly involve Nellie (Catherine Tate) holding a charity drive at the office and Dwight (Rainn Wilson) donating to the Taliban in retaliation. The season premier will be an important episode, as it will set up all of the arcs that will build up into the finale.

"The real heart of the show are these arcs that allow these characters to have ongoing stories. There's so much to pay off from nine seasons, so many great characters that my biggest concern is just tacking in these great ideas that the writing staff has on the walls and making sure we hit all of them or at least squeeze as many into the ending."

The Finale:  It's gonna be an "emotional" ending for some. Daniels hopes to bring everything full circle, and is working on getting Ken Kwapis, who directed the pilot, to helm the final episode. So is there any chance we'll see Steve Carell one last time as Michael Scott?

"We'll see. We have ideas for the ending and obviously if he would participate, we would have a lot of good times. The idea will fly without him if he can't make it. He is pretty busy."

Of course all of the big moments will be kept under wraps, but that's what'll make it even more exciting as the show winds to a close.

"As we head into the home stretch, we have a lot of exciting things I've been wanting to do since season two. The end should be pretty cool."

Spin-off?

As Daniels takes over for Paul Lieberstein as showrunner for the final year, Lieberstein is prepping a potential spinoff. It wasn't revealed who the spin-off would be based on. There are so many characters, but I'm sure whoever the spin-off will include will get some extra exposure this season.

Are you happy that this is the final season of The Office? Would you watch a spin-off series? And which character would you want it to be based on?

ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT Season Four Extended and Set Photos!

0

The highly anticipated fourth season of Arrested Development is currently being shot. It was initially announced that we would get 10 new episodes in the season, but you know what's better than 10? How about 13?! That's right, according to one of the stars, David Cross, there's so much story to tell that they may end up making 3 extra episodes to tell it! Here's what he had to say in a recent interview with Rolling Stone when he was asked if 10-episodes was still the plan,

I think it's going to be 13 episodes, not 10. There's too much story. Some characters will have two-parters. Everybody sort of participates, sometimes in a bigger way and sometimes in a tiny little thread that goes through everybody else's stories.

When asked about the new series being more serialized he said,

I'm not gonna divulge anything, but I know what the stories are and what Mitch [Hurwitz] is doing, and it's so layered. It's really audacious and amazing. I think a lot of people will miss the work that is involved, the story, the Venn diagrams that are being created, the domino effect that characters have with each other in their various episodes. I know what he's doing, and this has never been done on a TV show like this. This makes Lost look like a Spaulding Grey monologue. You'll have to watch each episode more than once.

It's going to be awesome to see all of these character back together. I'm looking forward to seeing where they are in their lives. I love the humor in the series and it sounds like that is something that won't be lost. As of right now, no release date has been announced, but all of the episodes are expected to be released at once on Netflix in early 2013! It's incredibly exciting!

Here's a couple more photos tweeted out by Ron Howard recently...

Hilarious Honest Trailer for THE HUNGER GAMES

Here's a hilarious brutally truthful trailer for Gary Ross' The Hunger Games, which was recently released on Blu-ray and DVD. I liked The Hunger Games, but it definitely had its issues, and the folks over at Screen Junkies point out all of them and more in their most recent Honest Trailer which is a series that humorously advertises films as they really are.

Relive the gritty brutality of the hit book as a watered down, PG-13 tween movie and may the odds be ever in its favor!

If you haven't seen this yet, I think you're going to enjoy it. It's for anyone that loved or hated the movie. What bothered you most about The Hunger Games movie?

DREDD 3D - Another New TV Spot

A new TV spot for Dredd 3D has been released, and yes, it's got a bit of new footage. The Pete Travis-directed action film stars Karl UrbanOlivia Thirlby, and Lena Headey. For those of you who like crazy violent action films, or are fans of the Judge Dredd comic book, then I don't think you'll be disappointed in what this movie has to offer.

Dredd 3D is set to be released on September 21, 2012. Are you ready to be blown away by ultra violent slow-mo 3D?

Here's the Synopsis:

The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

Last Ninja Announces The End Of Ninjitsu

0
0

Jinichi Kawakama is a 63 year old former engineer, and the head of the centuries old Ban-Ninja Clan. He has said in a recent interview with the New York Daily News that he will also be the last true Ninja. Kawakama says there is no longer a need for ninjas in the modern world, and that he will not be accepting an apprentice to carry on the rich oral tradition of the ways of his clan. Granted there are scrolls, but most information about training, and supposedly other vital information are stored within the mind of Kawakama himself. A quick search of the internet revealed to me that although he is famous around the world for his title, there is a good deal of criticism of Kawakama and his supposed ninja skills.

My question is, is the disappointment more the fault of Kawakama, or the audience in which he is performing for? The true orgin of ninja, believe it or not, is not the crazy over the top nonsense we geeks see in movies like Ninja Assassin or Naruto. These misconceptions about the magic, skill, and in some cases even the stealth involved in being a ninja were greatly exaggerated from legends revamped in 18th century Japan. The true history of ninjas is more accurately described as a cross of spy mercenaries... but that story is for another day.

Being the last of his clan, Kawakama was born in a time where stealth, espionage, and assasination were not necessary or even practiced outside of theory and entertainment. He was required to undergo training as a child for survival skills, and suffered greatly to earn his title. While his battle tactics may not be on par with a western world who has had a very sensationalistic view of the actual history of Ninja, he is still a strong man with survival skills proven at an age that current special ops agents undergo. While some of us may never live out our dream of running away and joining a ninja school, the true crime is the loss of a truly interesting piece of world culture.

It is my hope that if nothing else, Kawakama at least decides to write a book of the rituals of his clan, so that others can have a look into the true life of ninja training. Letting this information die off would be a sad way to end such a rich and private part of history.

Chuck Norris Just Blew My Mind

0

So while watching Expendables 2 I see Chuck Norris on screen doing what he does best in film, kicking ass. So I'm sitting there thinking, "Damn, he doesn't look any different than when he did Walker Texas Ranger."

So then I'm sitting there trying to think of a time when the Chuck Norris I know didn't look like Chuck Norris, and it hits me. Way of The Dragon features a much younger Chuck.

So then I'm like, "Hey weren't he and Bruce Lee around the same age when they did that movie?" which gets me wondering how old the "toughest man alive" really is. My mind was blown. Chuck Norris was born in March of 1940...making him 72 years old. Yeah, no joke. I really hope I can look as good as he does, hell, or even make it to that age. I'm ordering a Bowflex.

LOOPER - Cool New Theatrical Poster!

0
0

A cool looking new theatrical poster for Rian Johnson's highly anticipated time travel sci-fi thriller Looper has been released. It features Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis. I've liked most of the poster that have been released for the movie. The designs aren't recycled like most studio designed posters. These actually have some character. I'm very excited about this movie, and I think it's going to end up being one of the best of the year.

Here's The Official Synopsis:

In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market.  When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to mop up.  Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination.  The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels.  Ram Bergman and James D. Stern produce.

Looper also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, Noah Segan, Piper Perabo, and Jeff Daniels. It arrives in theaters on September 28th, 2012. Here's the trailer!

VIDEODROME Remake to be Directed by Adam Berg

0
0

Commercial director Adam Berg is in talks to direct his first feature film, which happens to be an unnecessary remake of David Cronenberg's 1983 film Videodrome. I'm sorry, but no one can make this movie like Cronenberg did.

The original twisted film starred James Woods as the head of Civic TV Channel 83, and to make his station relevant he airs a series that depicts torture and murder that transfixes viewers called Videodrome. Of course they are going to change it up a bit. Universal's plan is to "modernize the concept, infusing it with the possibilities of nano-technology and blow it up into a large-scale sci-fi action thriller."

Berg's name might sounds familiar to you as he was at one point attached to direct the the Deadpool movie for Fox. That movie doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.

What do you all think about Berg possibly directing the new this Videodrome remake? What do you think about Videodrome being remade in the first place? Here's some of the commercials Berg has directed during his career.
