THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE is Still in Development

For those of you who were wondering if David Fincher's sequel to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was still happening, you'll be happy to know that it's still in the works. We just won't see it in 2013.

According to EW the screenwriter of the first film, Steven Zaillian, is currently working on the script for The Girl Who Played With Fire. As of right now Fincher is not officially attached to direct the movie, but he's expected to return.

According to inside sources the studio is definitely moving forward with the movie, but they're not in a rush to get it made, so there's absolutely no timetable on when it will go into production or get released. At this point everything hinges on the script that's being written.

Back in November, Sony Pictures Entertainment Co-Chairman Amy Pascal revealed that both Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig were locked down for the sequel. I'm sure the sequel will eventually get made, it's just a matter of being patient.

I loved what Fincher did with the first movie in the trilogy, and I hope he does officially come back on board to make the sequel. Do you prefer the Fincher version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo or the Swedish version? Are you looking forward to seeing Fincher make a sequel?

Here's the description of the book for The Girl Who Played with Fire:

Mikael Blomkvist, crusading journalist and publisher of the magazine Millennium, has decided to run a story that will expose an extensive sex trafficking operation between Eastern Europe and Sweden, implicating well-known and highly placed members of Swedish society, business, and government.

But he has no idea just how explosive the story will be until, on the eve of publication, the two investigating reporters are murdered. And even more shocking for Blomkvist: the fingerprints found on the murder weapon belong to Lisbeth Salander—the troubled, wise-beyond-her-years genius hacker who came to his aid in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and who now becomes the focus and fierce heart of The Girl Who Played with Fire.

As Blomkvist, alone in his belief in Salander’s innocence, plunges into an investigation of the slayings, Salander herself is drawn into a murderous hunt in which she is the prey, and which compels her to revisit her dark past in an effort to settle with it once and for all.

THOR: THE DARK WORLD Casts a New Villain

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has been cast as one of the lead villains in Marvel's Alan Taylor-directed Thor: The Dark World. He will take on the dual roles of Algrim the Strong and Kurse.

Algrim the Strong was the most powerful of a race of Dark Elves, who is coerced by Malekith to fight Thor. After he's betrayed by Malekith and injured during a battle, Algrim is healed and transformed into a much more powerful being called Kurse, who is twice as a strong as Thor.

Akinnuoye-Agbaje has had small roles in several films such as G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, The Thing, The Bourne Identity, Unstoppable, but he's probably best known for playing Mr. Eko on LOST. He joins Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Jaimie Alexander, Stellan Skarsgard, Rene Russo, Kat Dennings and rounded out by Christopher Eccleston who will play the big bad villain Malekith the Accursed, the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim.

The movie is shooting in London and will be released on November 8th, 2013. What do you think of Akinnuoye-Agbaje being cast as this villain?

Red-Band Trailer for THE REVENANT - Vampire Superhero Hitmen

Here's a fun red-band trailer to the new horror action comedy called The Revenant, which follows a couple of vampire superhero hitmen. This looks like one of those ridiculous movies I might enjoy watching. This newest trailer features some great new footage and a good amount of blood and gore.

Here's the synopsis:

This breakout horror comedy centers around a fallen soldier who somehow finds he has joined the ranks of the living dead. Bart Gregory (Anders) has just recently been laid to rest - so why is he still up and walking around? The only person Bart can turn to for answers is his best friend Joey (Wylde), and before long the two pals have surmised that blood is life. In order to survive, Bart requires a steady supply of it.

Convinced that no one will miss the drug dealers and killers who have transformed LA into a swirling cesspool of crime and vice, the two friends decide to do law enforcement a favor by cleaning up the streets while collecting the precious blood needed to keep poor Bart from withering away into dust!

I think the movie's got what it takes to entertain me. It hits theaters on August 24th. Watch the red-band trailer and let us know if you'll be checking it out. What would you say one of your favorite horror comedies is?

Details Revealed on Possible DREDD 3D Trilogy

Dredd 3D is on the verge of being released, and if it ends up doing well at the box office you can expect to see a couple of sequels follow. The film's screenwriter and producer, Alex Garland, already has a full trilogy planned out in his head, and it involves the Cursed Earth, Dark Judges and Satanus. So if a sequel ends up happening, and Garland is involved with it, this is what we can expect...

If I was involved in a second movie, it would be about origins and subversion, and Chopper would feature. In fact, I think Chopper would start and end the story. Apart from him, my rough plan involves Fargo, Giant, Angel Gang, and a version of Satanus. For a trilogy, add Cal and the Dark Judges. And Anderson would be in all three. But... just to be clear, this is hugely speculative and also unlikely, for any number of reasons... There are some variables which would rule me out [of any sequel] immediately.

I think I'd try to make [the Dark Judges] really scary. Not play them for laughs. Just make them totally malevolent and lethal. And use practical effects where possible, except for Fire, which would be an on-set nightmare. The existential side to the Dark Judges is that they don't see a point to life. If my film-trilogy daydream was to play out, I would completely rewrite my original script for the Dark Judges - because it was junk - and start again.

If there is a sequel, I'm imagining spending about half the movie in the Cursed Earth, and I would try to come up with some new faces as well as some old ones... I quite like the idea of Satanus. But much more mutated.

Sounds great! I'd love to see something like this happen. I really liked Dredd 3D, it really did a great job of capturing Judge Dredd and that comic book universe. I really hope is does well, because It'd be great to see more. Garland goes on to admit that the story of Judge Dredd would be better told as a TV series,

But by the way, just so it has been said, I actually think that maybe the best way forward for Dredd is television. American TV has completely rewritten the rule book where filmed drama is concerned. Game Of Thrones/The Wire/Breaking Bad... An equivalent version of Dredd would be fucking great. Imagine the epics...

Damn... I agree with him. A Dredd series would be awesome! He should be pushing that idea. Dredd 3D is set for release on September 21st, and I recommend you go and see it.

What do you think about the ideas Garland shared for his proposed trilogy and TV series?

Joss Whedon Discusses AVENGERS 2, S.H.I.E.L.D. and MARVEL

$

Joss Whedon has had an incredible year, and I imagine every year from here on out is going to be incredible! He's made his mark, and now everyone knows who he is. The filmmaker recently signed a contract with Marvel in which he would write and direct the sequel to The Avengers, and develop a S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series for ABC. In a recent interview with Vulture the director talks about all things Marvel!

There was a point when we weren't sure if Whedon would want to make a sequel to The Avengers, so it was great when we found out he had commited himself to it, and more! What made him jump on board with Marvel?

It was part of what made it attractive to me. I loved the idea of being a consigliere. Every writer loves the idea of being able to go in and fix a problem and then leave without obligation. It's fun! I also love these characters and the Marvel universe, and I grew up reading the books, and I've been going back and reading the old books and realizing that they shaped my storytelling way more than I give them credit for. Now I'm starting up a TV show, which is something I really wanted to do, but I thought it wasn't going to be a part of my life for the next several years. It's like a tapas menus of projects that excite me, in addition to the Avengers sequel, which I'm excited for because I'm incredibly excited about the next story that I'm going to tell. For me, it's a huge win.

So he basically made Marvel and all of his fans sweat it out because he could, and he had a fun time doing it. I guess if you are in a position like that, why not soak it up and have a little fun with it? He goes on to explain that he will be giving these projects everything that he can,

It is unbelievably daunting, especially because I don't want to lose sight of all the other things I have on my docket and in my heart. So, it's going to be an insane few years, but I feel ready for that. It's an unholy amount of productivity, but as long as I give it all I can, it's a good thing. What's great is that the deal with Marvel is nonspecific, so I will give all I can, but the moment I can't, I just walk away. The moment I say, "You know, I'd like to help more on this project, but I need this time for The Avengers," there's no obligation. It's not like, "You must spend this amount of time on this movie." It's as much as it needs to be.

As for the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series he'll be developing he says,

The important thing to me is that we know what the show is. We love what it is. It came together very organically, so when we went in to pitch [to Marvel], it wasn't like, We're trying to find this because you want a TV show, it was, Check this out. And that's a good way to walk in a room.

Good support is wonderful, but it's not a hill of beans, because they may give us all this support and then decide, "Eh. Yeah, it's Friday." They might give us all the support and then not do that, but then audiences might go, "Yeahhh … no." You just can't be sure. What I do know is that it's the show it should be, and we've got some really dope notions. It's going to work very well for people who either love the Marvel universe or for people who've never dipped a toe in the Marvel universe.

That's so cool to hear. I don't see why Marvel wouldn't back up the series all the way, and I know Whedon's audience will. If he says he's come up with a great concept for a series, than I believe he'll deliver something we'll all enjoy. Here he talks about the deleted scenes in The Avengers and why he deleted them, specifically the alternate opening that involved Colbie Smulders:

Two factors. One: The movie was three hours long. Two: Audiences didn't respond to it as well in the movie as I think they would as a DVD extra. Most of them didn't know who this character was or what the context was, and they were like, Uhhh, I don't know why I'm supposed to be personally involved in this character I don't know. The rollout to the Avengers getting to Loki was so gradual that people were getting restless. I thought Cobie nailed it, and the reason I thought it was necessary is because I was trying to make a war movie and I wanted to give context that something bad had happened in the past. In a war movie, you don't know who's going to live or die, but you do know that this war happened and that [the characters] are going to be in a dire circumstance, and I wanted to create that atmosphere.

He then discusses the awesome Captain America deleted scene, saying that he hated cutting it, but that he was able to get the point across without it. Now, If you're interested in knowing what Whedon thought about his Avengers film... here ya go.

I don't think it's a perfect movie. I don't even think it's a great movie. I think it's a great time, and I'm proud of it, but for me, what was exciting is that people don't go to see a movie that many times unless it's pulling on something from within, unless there's a need there. That's very gratifying.

To read the rest of the interview head on over to Vulture.

A great new red-band trailer has been released for the Martin McDonagh-directed dark comedy Seven Psychopaths. The reason for the red-band is because the characters in the film like to use the F-word a lot. The movie has a pretty badass cast that includes, Colin Farrell, Christopher Walken, Sam Rockwell, Woody Harrelson, Abbie Cornish, Tom Waits, OlgaKurylenko, and Zeljko Ivanek. The story follows a struggling screenwriter who gets drawn into a very strange world of dog kidnapping by his two friends.

The movie was directed by the same guy who made In Bruges. If you haven't seen that yet you should check it out because it's a great movie. It will also give you an idea of the kind of dark humor McDonagh likes to play with.

Here's the full synopsis:

Marty (Colin Farrell) is a struggling writer who dreams of finishing his screenplay SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS. All he needs is a little focus and inspiration. Billy (Sam Rockwell) is Marty’s best friend, an unemployed actor and part time dog thief, who wants to help Marty by any means necessary. Hans (Christopher Walken) is Billy’s partner in crime, a religious man with a violent past. Charlie (Woody Harrelson) is the psychopathetic gangster whose beloved dog, Billy and Hans have just stolen. Charlie’s unpredictable, extremely violent and wouldn’t think twice about killing anyone or anything associated with the theft. Marty is going to get all the focus and inspiration he needs, just as long as he lives to tell the tale.

The movie hits theaters on October 12th, check out the red-band trailer!

Lionsgate has released a short new clip for Pete Travis' ultra violent movie of awesomness, Dredd 3D. The clip features Karl Urban as Judge Dredd letting everyone know who he is. Who is he? He is the law.

I think you're all going to enjoy this movie so when it's released on September 21st, make sure to go and see it because I want to see a sequel!

Here's the Synopsis:

The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

THE HOBBIT - 7 New Character Promo Photos

As director Peter Jackson preps to shoot his third Hobbit movie, seven new promotional character photos for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey found their way online. I'm really excited and interested to see what parts of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth universe Jackson plans to include in these films to stretch out the relatively short Hobbit book. Is there anything that you hope to see added to the story?

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released on December 14, 2012. The second film, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, is set for release the following year, on December 13, 2013. Then there's the third film that will be going into production soon that will be released in summer 2014!

Here's the synopsis:

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

PROMETHEUS - Crazy Cool Unused Mutation Special Effects

You may or may not have already seen these, but here's a series of photos showing off some awesomely creepy unused special effects for Ridley Scott's Prometheus. These screenshots come from Cinefex, and they show us the character Fifield played by Sean Harris, in a horrific mutated state. For those of you not sure who Fifield was, he was the geologist with the mohawk. Here's the explination behind the designs,

To mutate Fifield beyond what was possible using practical makeup effects, Weta Digital generated a digital character with elongated limbs and an engorged, transluscent head, incorporating a semblance of Harris’ face,Scott filmed the sequence both with the actor in makeup and without, providing clean plates that would allow for the insertion of the digital character. The final cut featured mostly makeup effects, which Weta enhanced with digital wire removal, bullet hits, and one shot of the digital creature’s body blended to the actor.

I'm sure we'll end up seeing a ton of great special features, extras, and deleted scenes on the Blu-ray, which is set to be released on October 11th. Check out the crazy looking designs and tell us what you think!

Nope, that photo isn't from Seth Macfarlane's delayed reboot of The Flintstones, it's from DreamWorks Animation's upcoming film, The Croods. Starring the voice talents of Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Clark Duke, and more, it's a blast from the past that looks to be a solid family film when it comes out in March of 2013. Slashfilm pointed us to a new photo from Entertainment Weekly, so check out that new picture below and let us know what you think in the comments.

Here's the full synopsis:

The Croods is a 3D comedy adventure from DreamWorks Animation that takes us back to the beginning – to a previously undiscovered era known as the Croodacious – a time when Mother Nature was still experimenting and the flora and fauna we know today hasn’t evolved yet. At the heart of this comedically chaotic world is the Crood family, led by Grug (Academy Award® winner Nicolas Cage), an over-protective father who, like all dads, is doing all he can to hold his family together as the world around them changes at a dramatic pace.

Together with his wife (Catherine Keener), kids (Emma Stone and Clark Duke) and ornery mother-in-law (Cloris Leachman) in tow, Grug guides his family through this spectacular environment, full of amazing creatures, to find a new cave to call home. Along the way, they encounter Guy (Ryan Reynolds), an imaginative and resourceful newcomer who takes risks and wholeheartedly embraces the promise of tomorrow. Audiences will relate to the hilarious family antics as Guy helps the Croods navigate their way into the bright future.

First Look at Chris Pine as JACK RYAN

Here's our first look at Chris Pine cruising downtown Manhattan on a motorcycle as the title character Jack Ryan in Kenneth Branagh's new political action thriller.

Jack Ryan is a prequel to the book series written by Tom Clancy. The story centers on ex-Marine and Moscow-based financial analyst Jack Ryan (Pine), who uncovers a plot by his employer to finance a terrorist attack designed to collapse the U.S. economy. Ryan must race against time to save America and his wife.

The film also stars Kevin Costner, Keira Knightley and Branagh will play the villain. This is the fifth film in the Jack Ryan franchise which which also includes The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger and The Sum of All Fears.

I think Pine is a solid choice for a younger version of this character, but no one will be as awesome as Harrison Ford. Now that you've seen a photo, do you think Pine will make for a good Jack Ryan?

Michael Bay Comments on Leaked NINJA TURTLES Script

$

This last week we've had a few discussions about a leaked script for the Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. The script and the ideas in it were aboslutely horrific. You can see a full rundown of that script here if you want, so you can see for yourself just how bad it was. Thankfully that script has been scrapped.

Bay has now commented on the leaked script saying...

The leaked script that different sites continue to comment on was written well before I, or anyone at Platinum Dunes, was involved with the project. That script saw the shredder a long time ago. This is tired, old news -- wait for the movie!

The only issue with that statement is that the script that leaked had a date of 1/30/12 on it, which would be almost 2 years after Bay and Platinum Dune became involved with the project. Does he think we're stupid or something?

TMNT co-creator Peter Laird made another statement about the script as well saying,

I think the script that I read is so fundamentally flawed, and — more to the point — so NOT a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, that trying to make piecemeal changes to it in an effort to make it into something halfway decent is probably a fool’s errand.

In my opinion, the thing should just be tossed out, deliberately forgotten, and the process of generating a new script really a new outline, then treatment, then script — should be started again. I have no insider knowledge of what’s going on with the movie, but from the bits and pieces that have slipped out, it seems like that may be exactly what is happening.

While we’re on the subject of this script… I have to say that while reading it, and especially reading the last twenty pages or so, I couldn’t help but think of the brouhaha which erupted a few months back when Michael Bay was heard to say that in the upcoming movie, the Turtles would be revealed to be “from an alien race”, and following that, all the mental gymnastics indulged in by people who wanted to parse his words and make it seem like “No, he didn’t REALLY say they were going to be ALIENS!”… and then this script makes it way out onto the Internet, and if it is legitimate, it’s painfully clear that YES, the Turtles WERE, in fact, going to be ALIENS.

Hopefully they've started developing the project from scratch, and all of these changes that were made won't end up in whatever film they end up making. After all of the hate they've gotten on the film concepts in this script they'd be stupid to move forward with them.

What do you think about Bay's comments?

GOD OF WAR Movie - Writers Talk about What We Can Expect

$

0

Pacific Rim and Saw screenwriters Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan are currently hard at work re-writing the feature film adaptation of the epic video game God of War. The first draft of the script was written by the film's producer David Self (Road to Perdition, Thirteen Days).

In a recent interview in IGN the two talk about the project and what we can expect to see. The first thing they mention is that the script wasn't re-written because it was bad, it was re-written because it was outdated,

The only problem with that is it was written before Clash of the Titans, Wrath of the Titans, 300 and Immortals, and those movies borrowed quite a bit from the God of War stories. It was just a little bit outdated, so we wanted to differentiate it from those other movies.

When they started on the project the first think they felt they needed to do was humanize the main character Kratos,

In the same way that Batman was grounded with Christopher Nolan's rendition, we were attempting to do that with Kratos so that when we meet him -- like they're doing in this newest game, which is sort of a prequel to the original -- we're seeing him before he became the Ghost of Sparta, when he was just a Spartan warrior and he had family and kids.

The whole reason for huminzing character likes this is so that the audience are able to relate to them. Melton goes on the explain,

In the game... there's that attack from the barbarians and Kratos has to call upon Ares to help him. Really, that's going to be our first act break. Before then, he's going to be mortal, and he's going to have his family. We're going to learn about him and understand how he operates. So it's potentially 30 minutes -- give or take -- of building up this character so that, when he does turn and becomes the Ghost of Sparta, we understand him as a human and we understand the journey that he's going to take. We're emotionally invested, so that it could go beyond just this one movie.

During the interview they are asked about switching gears from low-budget horror to epic big budget features, and here's what they said,

There's almost an element of relief. When it comes to God of War, we are first-time visitors, and we have a wealth of imagination that has built up from our appreciation for the sword-and-sandals films of our history... We know it doesn't have to be done for a million bucks in a garage. [Laughs] That helps, too. But also, with a bigger movie like God of War, you have to go quite a bit deeper into the character as opposed to a horror film, in which you generally need to get things going; people are concerned that the audience won't have patience, so it's go go go go go.

With God of War, We're going to spend $150 million to make this movie. We really need to understand this character and get behind him and feel his pain and feel his emotions so that, when he is in these giant set pieces, we're in there with him and we're feeling it.' That is a critique of some of these big action films is that they often get too big and just become noise; you're not invested in the character.

I love what I'm hearing. If they are able to actually pull off what they are talking about, this could be a great movie! As you know, video game film adaptations don't really turn out the way they should, but there might be a chance with this one. Dunstan continues saying,

There was a recent movie, which will remain nameless, that depicted the main character without any fear. When you do that, how are we supposed to be afraid through him? How are we supposed to gauge anything as a legitimate threat? It's become this dulling element. So with this, we take an intimidating presence such as Kratos, fighting and pursuing a bloodthirsty vengeance trail to the God of War. How do we make that genuinely scary? The man of action must prevail, but it's got to hurt to getting there.

He then goes on to explain their plans for Ares and his villainy,

In the game, you know, he's immortal, and he doesn't really do much besides raid Athens. So we're trying to build him up a bit more, too, so that he can become a true villain.

Melton and Dunstan are still working on the screenplay, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they end up with. Brett Ratner was once attached to direct the film, but as of right now no one is attached. Hopefully they are able to find someone with an epic imagination, a visual eye, and a lot of talent.

How METAL GEAR SOLID Can Easily Be The Best Or Worst Video Game Movie Of All Time

Hideo Kojima, creator of the famous franchise Metal Gear Solid, has long been known as the undisputed master of cinematic gaming. Since the first installment on the original Playstation the series has thrived off the tried and true formula of stealth gameplay, engaging story, and masterfully directed cut scenes. Cut scenes so well done, they look straight out of a movie.

With all the story packed into a single game one can spend a considerable time playing, watching and listening and still not be able to capture every bit of information packed into the story of his games. We are talking hours of two way (Codec) conversations, alternate cut scenes triggered by game events, and hour grinding boss battles (The End in MGS: 3). In fact it's truly incredible how Kojima and his team manage to intricately weave so much content and information into a story. With stories that are chocked full of supernatural super villains, international espionage, and rife with government conspiracy, it doesn't take long to immerse yourself in a world where every answer seems to ask another question. Take that combined with the excellent voice acting talents of David Hayter and Phil Lamarr and you have a masterpiece series that has long been held as a pinnacle of gaming.

So what's the problem? Surely a man capable of creating video games that are like movies would have no trouble creating a movie that's like a video game. It's true that Kojima has a history with film. In addition to numerous references in his games to science fiction classics such as Blade Runner, Akira, Escape From New York (and many, many more) Kojima left early intentions as a film director as he felt there was more of a reward in working in video games. His primary strength in his story telling lies in the interactive tale he tells...which can take a considerable chunk of time. For example, if you were only to take just the cutscenes of Metal Gear Solid 4 (not counting side conversations and gameplay...which also serve in telling the story) you're looking at around 90 minutes.

On average any game is going to exceed the length of a movie, but when half of your game is a movie...that can be a problem. Let's not forget that Kojima's greatest strength in video gaming may also serve as his downfall in the movie business. From the mouth of Kojima himself:

Storytelling is very difficult. But adding the flavour helps to relay the storytelling, meaning in a cut scene, with a set camera and effects, you can make the users feel sorrow, or make them happy or laugh. This is an easy approach, which we have been doing. That is one point, the second point is that if I make multiple storylines and allow the users to select which story, this might really sacrifice the deep emotion the user might feel; when there's a concrete storyline, and you kind of go along that rail, you feel the destiny of the story, which at the end, makes you feel more moved. But when you make it interactive — if you want multiple stories where you go one way or another — will that make the player more moved when he or she finishes the game? These two points are really the key which I am thinking about, and if this works, I think I could probably introduce a more interactive storytelling method.

Can Kojima deliver a successful MGS movie without utilizing his greatest strength in story telling? If he can or potentially deliver a more interactive film going experience he is destined to create the best video game movie, and one of the top films of all time. If he can't and fails to effectively translate the world of Solid Snake without effectively confusing the audience things can collapse horribly. It will forever be remembered as a blight on one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time (ie: Mario Bros scenario). So can he and former Marvel producer Avi Arad pull it off? I'll certainly be rooting for them to do so.
