This $135,000 BB-8 Gets A Custom-Designed Gold and Diamond Look

See, there are some really cool geeky collectables that should exist and then there are things so uncool that their existence should pretty much be banned from the entire galaxy. An example of one such thing is this customized recreation of BB-8 from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Disney teamed up with Kay Jewelers to create one “glamorous” (a word that doesn’t really match the character of the droid) version of the Star Wars character. It is 4.5 inches tall and weighs more than 1.5 lbs. But what’s so special about it? Well, it is the combination of 18-carat pure yellow gold and 18 carats of diamonds.

The piece was officially presented at the Force 4 Fashion show in New York City. Its price is estimated at around $135,000. The luxurious model of BB-8 will be auctioned off for charity in order to support St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

George Murray, Chief Marketing and Merchandising Officer for Kay Jewelers, pointed out that:

"More than 600 hours went into the design and development of the BB-8 replica, and this incredible custom design is an example of the craftsmanship and dedication that is available to guests every day at our Kay Jewelers stores and online at Kay.com."

Dedication? Definitely. But is it really craftsmanship?

New Photo of Black Widow in CIVIL WAR, ScarJo Talks About Widow's Role in The Conflict

Entertainment Weekly is back with yet another interview with a cast member of the upcoming Marvel film Captain America: Civil War. Along with debuting a new image of Black Widow, Steve Rogers (Captain America), Sam Wilson (Falcon), and Sharon Carter (Agent 13), the magazine spoke with star Scarlett Johansson to ask her about Black Widow's role in the conflict between Captain America and Iron Man:

Widow appeared to be leading the team of new Avengers we saw at the end of Ultron, gathered at their headquarters.
Yeah, I don’t know if she’s leading this team but she’s certainly, she’s — I think Natasha’s a very strategic thinker and that’s her strongpoint. Her superpowers, if you want to call them that, are her experience, her ability to make usually the right decision in a quick moment, in a tight minute. And she’s not personally invested. I mean, that’s what she tells herself anyway. And so that keeps her head kind of level and clear.
She seems to be leaning strongly toward Iron Man’s side of things.
I think when you find her in Civil War, she’s looking to strategize her position, putting herself in a place where she is able to let the powers that be fight it out or whatever amongst themselves. She’s always a little bit on the perimeter so she can have a better perspective of what’s really going on.
...
You know, I think she understands where everyone is coming from. And none of it really matters to her, you know? There’s a bigger problem at hand and she’s, I think, strangely, kind of the mediator. Which is not exactly how you would imagine her to be. But I think she really does see both sides of the coin and I think her strength is that she’s not personally involved.

The outlet visited the set of the movie and described a brief scene they saw being filmed:

In one scene EW watched being filmed this summer, she and Tony Stark have a quiet moment after being given an ultimatum to bring down the rogue Cap — or else the U.S. government will do it in permanent fashion.
Stark rubs at the center of his chest, where his ARC reactor was once embedded. “You know the problem with a fully functional heart…? It’s stressful,” he tells Natasha.
She’s all business: “We are painfully understaffed.”
“It’d be pretty awesome if we had a Hulk,” he tells her.
But they don’t. And Widow, still harboring feelings for Bruce Banner, who was last seen venturing off into self-imposed isolation in the Avengers’ Quinjet — knows that better than anyone.

So, naturally, they asked about the effects of the relationship explored in Ultron between Widow and Hulk:

How did Bruce Banner going away at the end of the last movie leave her feeling, after she reached out to him and he turned her away — then ran away?
I imagine that there are a couple of ways you could respond to that. Maybe you want to call it abandonment or whatever it is, exactly. Vulnerability, rejection. I think that you can turn inward and be very hurt and bitter and that would have been an easier choice. But she understands that Banner did what he had to do. Certainly she’s not going to be the person to chastise someone who’s not ready to open up. I don’t think she’s taking it personally.
Is she kind of like, “Hey, your loss?”
I don’t think even it’s that. I think she’s just, it’s not the right time. It’s one of those things where you think of the person with a lot of fondness. You keep that in a warm place in your heart for them. It would have been very easy for us to take that and turn it into bitterness in this film and have her be reactive. But that would be out of character, I think.
Will that storyline continue?
I don’t know. There is little room for romance in Civil War; I think there is a lot going on that doesn’t really involve big heart-to-hearts. I mean it’s certainly in there and there’s references to it. But this is not the opportunity for us to explore the Widow’s deep, personal backstory.

Sounds like Johansson is still holding out a little bit of hope that Widow and Hulk will end up getting together at some point in the future of the MCU. In the meantime, she'll apparently be a voice of reason in the carnage that is Civil War. You can read more with her in the full interview at EW. If this morning is any indication, there's much more information to come about Captain America: Civil War before the movie eventually hits theaters on May 6th, 2016.

Supercut: Actors Playing Actors Who Are Acting

$

Phil Whitehead has put together a pretty comprehensive supercut of actors playing actors who are in the process of acting. It's incredibly meta, but once you see it, you'll understand exactly what he's going for. From the classic Singin' in the Rain to last year's Best Picture-winning Birdman and a range of TV shows like Seinfeld, Friends, Entourage, and Extras, there are tons of examples on display here and it's cool to lose yourself in the layers of it all.

While making this video, I noticed the intricacies of how actors can try, in this situation, to create the sense of spontaneity and therefore reminding us, as viewers, that the film we are watching is also rehearsed and scripted in the same way.
This is particularly interesting in Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm. We have Jerry Seinfeld playing Jerry Seinfeld playing Jerry Seinfeld in the Seinfeld clip and then during the CYE clip, Jerry Seinfeld playing a different Jerry Seinfeld playing the Jerry Seinfeld from…. Seinfeld (if that makes sense).

New FRIDAY THE 13TH Movie Gets Yet Another Writer

$

Paramount has been trying to figure out what to do with the Friday the 13th franchise since they earned back the rights to the series after the 2009 remake, and reports have ranged from it being a 3D film to a found footage movie, and then dropping the found footage aspect and becoming a TV series at The CW (of all places) instead. So things have been...chaotic, to say the least.

But now Variety reports that Paramount and producers at Platinum Dunes have hired scribe Aaron Guzikowski to write a new screenplay for the film, so maybe they're finally honing in on a direction. He's the writer of the Hugh Jackman revenge thriller Prisoners, as well as Universal's upcoming reboot of The Wolf Man.

This is one of those projects that pops up every once in a while with a little update but rarely seems to gain any real steam, and hopefully now that they've brought on a new writer, they'll be able to actually bring Jason Voorhees back to the big screen again. This is a valuable property for a studio that lacks a ton of recognizable franchises, so it seems like it should be a big priority for them — especially considering how profitable horror films can be if done correctly. Will Guzikowski be the one who ends up breaking the curse and lifting the iconic slasher out of development hell?

STAR WARS-Themed Glassware Includes Tatooine, Dagobah, Hoth, and More

Hot on the heels of the lightsaber silverware we featured a couple of days ago, ThinkGeek has another Star Wars-themed set of useful tools. This glassware is designed to look like planets in the galaxy far, far away such as Alderaan, Dagobah, Tatooine, and Hoth, as well the forest moon of Endor and a certain space station that is most definitely not a moon (the Death Star). No love for Bespin, huh? Pity. I really dig Cloud City. I know if I had these, I'd try to drink things that represented each planet in their respective glasses: hot liquids from that Tatooine glass, freezing cold ones from Hoth, maybe some green tea from Endor...you get the picture.

Anyway, if you do end up dropping and shattering one of these, just try to make sure it's Alderaan — at least that'll be in line with the planet's fate in the original movie.

This Star Wars Planetary Glassware Set lets you gaze upon otherworldly beauty while drinking your orange juice. Or blue milk...First thing we're doing when we get ours is filing Hoth with vanilla ice cream. Or better yet - snow cream!

Review: KRAMPUS Is the Best Christmas Horror Movie Ever Made

review-krampus-is-the-best-christmas-horror-movie-ever-made

I had the opportunity to attend a screening of Michael Dougherty’s new horror film Krampus earlier this week, and if you’re a fan of Dougherty’s twisted Halloween classic Trick r’ Treat, you’re going to love what Krampus has to offer! One of the main reasons I was so stoked to see this movie was because it came from the writer and director of Trick ‘r Treat. It's also because of that that my expectations were set so high for Krampus

I went into the screening expecting to see horror movie greatness, and I’m happy to say that’s exactly what I got! There are a handful of great horror Christmas movies that have been made over the years, like Gremlins, which was one of the inspirations behind it, but in my opinion, Krampus is easily one of the best that has ever been made. Gremlins has been my favorite for so long. It's an amazing film, but putting all nostalgia aside, Krampus has taken the top spot for me. So if you’re a fan of horror films and Christmas, you’re going to love this.

Krampus is an instant classic in the same way that Trick ‘r Treat was an instant classic, and it’s going on my list of movies that I have to watch every year during the Christmas season.

The story centers on a young boy and his family who seem to have lost the Christmas spirit. In a fit of rage the boy, who believes in Santa Clause, tears up his letter to him and throws it out the window of his home. This act of anger unintentionally summons the Christmas demon Krampus, who unleashes the fury of Christmas hell on this family, and they do everything they can to survive.

The movie has the perfect mix humor and horror and from start to finish it’s entertaining as hell. One of the things that I enjoy most about Dougherty’s style of horror is the classic nostalgic vibe that they have. I also freakin' love his creature designs and the creepy way they are presented in his movies. They stuff you see in Krampus is the stuff that nightmares are made are of. No joke, I have seriously dreamed about some of the shit that he put in this movie! It’s crazy how he is able to bring this kind of horror to life in a way that audiences can enjoy.

The film has an amazing cast that includes Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner, Allison Tolman, and Emjay Anthony as the young boy that unleashes the madness on his family. They all did a great job in their roles of wonderfully created characters. The film was full of colorful characters, and they made the film all that much more enjoyable. One of my favorite characters in the movie was Howard, who was played by Koechner. He is the crazy redneck brother-in-law of Scott’s character, Tom. He stole the show. Every scene that he was in was a hysterical delight.

I know this may sound demented, but it was just so much fun watching these characters fight off a gang of evil Christmas demons out for their blood. Those demons are presented in the form of everything we love about the holidays. They were terrifyingly twisted versions of teddy bears, gingerbread men, snowmen, and even evil angelic cherubs.

Krampus may be a horror film, but it's a perfectly horrific Christmas film for the whole family to enjoy… if your kids enjoy scary films, like mine. When talking to the director about the film, he said that he made it for families, because in an interesting way, on top of all the horror and chaos, it still has a positive, uplifting, and heartfelt message about the meaning of Christmas. This movie is all about the Christmas spirit, it's just wrapped in some insanely deranged wrapping paper.

The movie hits theaters this weekend, and I really hope you all go out and see it to help you get into the Christmas spirit!

Entertainment Weekly is on a roll with their Captain America: Civil War coverage. They have released five additional photos from Joe and Anthony Russo’s highly anticipated film. There are a few pics of Captain America and one of The Winter Solider about to lay a heavy blow into Iron Man’s face.

The first three images come with quotes from Chris Evans. In them, he talks about certain aspects of the film including his relationships with Tony Stark and Black Panther. He also said that he’d like to appear in Iron Man 4 if it ever happens. This is what he had to say:

"I’d be happy to be in an Iron Man movie. We've been in so many movies together, the titles are almost, at this point, inconsequential. We all win!"

Sebastian Stan also offers some insight into his character, which you can read below the photo of him fighting Iron Man. You can read all the other quotes under the photos they came with.

“We’ve saved the world but we also caused so much damage and cost lives and there are some people who think the collateral damage isn’t worth it.”

"They do respect each other but they’re just very different men. You do have those moments of connection, like at the end of Age of Ultron when I say, 'I will miss you, Tony.' There is a love and respect there ... and that’s what makes this so tragic."

“I love our scenes together because I do think they feel a sense of responsibility. I think they’re both very selfless people,” Evans says of Captain America and Black Panther. “They want the right thing, no one’s irrational, no one has an inflated ego.” (That’s got to be a dig at Iron Man, by the way.) “They’re family-first people,” Evans says. “I think outside of the suits we’d be friends, Steve and T’Challa.”

"What have we have gotten as a result of Bucky and the Winter Soldier. Here’s the guy when you merge the two. This is what came out. You know, he’s not entirely... to me it’s never really going to be Bucky Barnes again."

The movie hits theaters on May 6th, 2016 ,and you can read more information on the film here.

Ganglebot Films has created a funny new series of short films that were written and directed by drunk individuals. It all started two years ago with the released of "Star Drunk," and then yesterday we posted a superhero parody called "Super Drunk." We have a new film in the series for you to watch today called "Dread Drunk," and this is the brief plot summary that came along with it:

Extra-terrestrial creatures terrorize the city and a group of strangers must figure out who among them is infested. Except everybody's drunk.

These films were made in good fun, and to provide entertainment to people and make them laugh. I think they're hilarious. That’s why this filmmaking team put their time, energy, and drunken hard work into making them. I hope you enjoy this latest short! It looks like they weren't drunk when they did the special effects for this one!

I don’t know what Star Wars fans are watching SportsCenter, but they released a new promo video that offers a bit of new footage from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The most notable footage gives us our first real look at the planet D'Qar, which is where the Resistance resides. It's a very brief shot, but it's pretty damn stunning. The Star Wars footage starts at the 1:11 mark. Before that, it’s just lots of football footage set to the Star Wars musical score.

Lawrence Kasdan Talks THE FORCE AWAKENS, Han Solo Spinoff, and More

The Star Wars screenwriter behind The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens, and the upcoming Han Solo film, Lawrence Kasdan, recently did an interview with the Los Angeles Times. During that interview he spoke about some of his latest projects in the franchise, which he is completely confident in. He know that people are going to flock to the theaters to see The Force Awakens when it opens, and it's expected to end up being one of the all-time highest grossing films. He's not concerned about the money, he explained:

"What does matter is, do we feel good about it and do we think we fulfilled those things we set out to do? I've seen it six or seven times, and I feel very good about that. When this movie starts, you just can't believe how dynamic and fun it is. I don't know anybody who can resist who's slightly open to it. [Director] J.J. [Abrams] just knocked it out of the park."

He's seen The Force Awakens six or seven times already?! Holy crap! If it's as good as he says it is, that's probably how many time I'll see it in the theaters while it's out. Kasdan went on to praise Abrams, saying that they were able to knock out a first draft of The Force Awakens in six weeks. He then added:

"He's a really decent guy, and he makes movies the way I try to make movies. Which is that it's a privilege to make a movie and no one should be miserable."

He goes on to talk about the two other directors that were hired to take on Episode VIII and Episode IX saying that the films will vary from each other in terms of style. He also talks about the directing duo who are taking on his  Han Solo spinoff.

"These movies will all be so different. [Episode VIII director] Rian Johnson is a friend of mine — he's going to make some weird thing. If you've seen Rian's work, you know it's not going be like anything that's ever been in Star Wars. You couldn't have three more different people than J.J., Rian and [Episode IX director] Colin [Trevorrow]. Those movies will have the Star Wars saga as their basis, but everything else will be different. Then Phil Lord and Chris Miller are going to make the Han Solo film and I can't guess what that will be like — and I'm writing it!"

I'm really happy to hear that Johnson will be bringing his unique qualities to Episode VIII. That was one thing that I was really hoping to see, so it's great to hear we'll really be getting a Rian Johnson style Star Wars movie. Kasdan talks a little more about the Han Solo film he's woriking on with his son Jon, and reveals that Solo is his favorite Star Wars character. He enjoys writing dialogue for him, and asked if it's easy to write for a younger version of Han, he said:

"I think so. You know, he's younger in this [spinoff] movie and that's fun because you have to imagine him 10 years earlier in his early 20s. What was he like before he hardened up? Before he had some setbacks? Before he put on this cynical coat? What got him there?"

I guess all of those question will be answered in this A Star Wars Story movie, and I'm sure it will end up being a thrilling adventure!

A new trailer has been released for Keanu Reeves' upcoming thriller called Exposed. Reeves plays a detective who is searching for the truth about his partner’s death. In the process, he comes across a woman who seems to take the story in an interesting direction. She claims to have witnessed some kind of miracle.

The movie was directed by Gee Malik Linton, a personal physical trainer for stars such as Tobey Maguire and Anne Hathaway. He’s written and directed some short films as well, but he's managed to work his way into the business and a feature film director.

When a detective starts to investigate his partner’s shocking death, he uncovers disturbing evidence of police corruption and a dangerous secret involving an unlikely young woman.

The movie also stars Ana de Armas (Knock Knock) and Christopher McDonald (Happy Gilmore), and it really looks like it could be a decent mystery thriller. I've heard that the script for the film is great, but the trailer shows off some cliché dialogue. Regardless, I'm curious about this movie, and I'm going to see it.

Exposed opens in theaters and on iTunes on January 22nd, 2016.

Peyton Reed Talks ANT-MAN AND THE WASP, Says It Will Be a Much Weirder Movie

Director Peyton Reed is hard at work developing Ant-Man and the Wasp, which will serve as a sequel to the first film. During an interview with Newsarama, the director said they are just starting the writing process. He also spoke about the sequel and what it will explore and sais it’s going to be a much weirder movie.

“The goal is to keep what we really liked for the characters in the first one, but to make it a much weirder movie.”

Ant-Man was already wonderfully weird. I’m curious to see how much weirder it can get! The director goes on to explain that that the sequel will also take the character’s story into some “unexpected places.” One thing Reed is looking forward to exploring most is the relationship between Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp:

“Part of thing that we’re going to explore, as shown in the comics, is how [the Ant-Man and Wasp] are such a great duo and partnership. Part of that, in any partnership, is how they relate to each other as people. Where will their personal relationship be at that point, and what will be their fighting style together?”

I loved the first film, and now that the groundwork has been laid, Ant-Man and the Wasp should be able to do some crazy things. There’s no doubt in my mind that it will end up being even better. The movie is set to be released on July 6th, 2018.

There Are Actually Japanese Lyrics To The Super Mario Bros. Theme

One of video gaming's most iconic themes actually has lyrics! While English speaking audiences will read that and immediately start singing "Do The Mario," the Japanese will confirm there were actual written lyrics for the original Super Mario Bros. theme. Hypebeast tells the story, which is actually more interesting than the lyrics!

Initially, Nintendo did fully intend for the song to be strictly instrumental, but then a Japanese radio station held a nationwide contest encouraging fans to write lyrics. The following song was submitted to Nintendo, and they loved it so much they made it canon and released it on vinyl. The track currently is up on the 3DS Joysound karaoke app, or below.

Here's the translation if your Japanese is a bit rusty...

Super Mario Bros. Theme (Lyrics)
Today, full of energy, Mario is still running, running
Go save Princess Peach! Go!
Today, full of energy, Mario runs
Today, full of energy, jumping!
Today, full of energy, searching for coins
Today, keep going, Mario!

Get a mushroom – it’s Super Mario!
Get a flower – it’s Fire Mario!
Goomba! Troopa! Buzzy Beetle! Beat them all!
Mario is always full of energy and strong!
Today, full of energy, Mario is still running, running
Go and beat the Koopa tribe, go!

Today, full of energy, Mario runs
Today, full of energy, jumping!
Today, full of energy, searching for coins
Today, keep going, Mario!

Get a star – become invincible!
Quickly, go save Princess Peach!
Lakitu! Blooper! Cheep Cheep! Beat them all!
Mario is always full of energy and strong!

Today, full of energy, Mario is still running, running
He’s made it to the castle and gets fireworks!
Lightly sidestepping the Hammer Bros.
Show the last of your power, Mario!
It’s been a long journey but it’s nearly at an end
You’ve done it, you’ve done it! You’ve defeated Bowser!

Princess Peach says “Thank you”
Mario’s got a great big heart!
Mario’s adventure is over for now, but
Mario’s dream lives forever…

Not exactly catchy in English, but you get the idea. I keep hearing B.E.T and Yakuza when I listen, so that makes me laugh.
