SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS Character Posters

I think Martin McDonagh's (In Burges) upcoming dark comedy Seven Psychopaths looks like it's going to be a great flick. It's got an incredibly cool cast of actors that includes Colin Farrell, Christopher Walken, Sam Rockwell, Woody HarrelsonAbbie Cornish, Tom Waits, Olga Kurylenko, and Zeljko Ivanek. We've got a full character poster series for you to check out giving you a countdown of the seven psychopaths represented in the story.

Here's the full synopsis:

Marty (Colin Farrell) is a struggling writer who dreams of finishing his screenplay 'Seven Psychopaths'. All he needs is a little focus and inspiration. Billy (Sam Rockwell) is Marty’s best friend, an unemployed actor and part time dog thief, who wants to help Marty by any means necessary. Hans (Christopher Walken) is Billy’s partner in crime, a religious man with a violent past. Charlie (Woody Harrelson) is the psychopathetic gangster whose beloved dog, Billy and Hans have just stolen. Charlie’s unpredictable, extremely violent and wouldn’t think twice about killing anyone or anything associated with the theft. Marty is going to get all the focus and inspiration he needs, just as long as he lives to tell the tale.

The movie hits theaters on October 12th. Checkout the posters, and I've also included the trailer at the very bottom in case you missed it yesterday.

David Cronenberg Smashes Boring Superhero Films

$

0

Well, I guess not everyone is a fan of superhero movies, director David Croneneberg says he finds them mostly boring. Sure they may not be as crazy and strange as his own films, but a lot of people like myself still find them entertaining. In a recent interview with NextMovie the director talked about how Christopher Nolan didn't elevate Batman to the level it should have been, and goes on to slam the superhero comic book movie genre saying,

I don’t think they are making them an elevated art form. I think it’s still Batman running around in a stupid cape. I just don’t think it’s elevated. Christopher Nolan’s best movie is “Memento,” and that is an interesting movie. I don’t think his Batman movies are half as interesting though they’re 20 million times the expense. What he is doing is some very interesting technical stuff, which, you know, he’s shooting IMAX and in 3-D. That’s really tricky and difficult to do. I read about it in “American Cinematography Magazine,” and technically, that’s all very interesting. The movie, to me, they’re mostly boring.

Well, first of all I'm just going to point out a little inaccuracy he made, that Nolan didn't shoot the film in 3D. I can see Cronenberg's point of view though, but I still believe Nolan is doing more than technical stuff, he's also told some great epic complicated stories that makes the audience think. When asked if he thought the subject matter prohibits the elevated art form, Cronenberg said,

Absolutely. Anybody who works in the studio system has got 20 studio people sitting on his head at every moment, and they have no respect, and there’s no…it doesn’t matter how successful you’ve been. And obviously Nolan has been very successful. He’s got a lot of power, relatively speaking. But he doesn’t really have power. [Q: So that's a no.] I would say that’s a no, you know. And the problem is you gotta… as I say, you can do some interesting, maybe unexpected things. And certainly, I’ve made the horror films and people say, “Can you make a horror film also an art film?” And I would say, “Yeah, I think you can.” But a superhero movie, by definition, you know, it’s comic book. It’s for kids. It’s adolescent in its core. That has always been its appeal, and I think people who are saying, you know, “Dark Knight Rises” is, you know, supreme cinema art,” I don’t think they know what the f**k they’re talking about.

Oh shit! Look, I enjoy Cronenberg's work, he's made some great films over the years, but it's really hard for me to agree with him on this. I see the point he's making but at the same time Cronenberg went and made a comic book movie with A History of Violence, he's also made a ton of genre movies such as The Fly, The Dead Zone, Videodrome, Scanners, The Brood, eXistenZ and a ton of other projects that I've enjoyed watching. But how are these film any better than a comic book superhero movie? They all tell a story, and I think if it's a good story that entertains people it doesn't matter where the source material came from. I just don't understand why he thinks comic book films can't be art, because they are... just like his films are art.

What do you think about Cronenberg's thoughts on comic book movies? Do you agree or disagree with him?

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Discusses DARK KNIGHT RISES Ending and Robin

The Dark Knight Rises star Joseph Gordon-Levitt showed up on Jimmy Kimmel's talk show last night and talked about the ending of the movie and the future of the franchise.

Remember all those rumors and speculation about Gordon-Levitt playing Robin? It was incredibly awesome when all of those rumors and talk were confirmed at the end of the movie. It's pretty incredible that the cast and crew were able to keep their mouths shut about it the whole time.

Now that the cat's out of the bag they can talk about it all they want, and here's what Gordon-Levitt had to say!

Marc Webb Set to Direct THE ONLY LIVING BOY IN NEW YORK

It's still up in the air if Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb will direct the sequel, but he hasn't stopped taking on other projects. According to Thompson on Hollywood, the (500) Days of Summer director is now attached to direct an independent anti-romance film called The Only Living Boy in New York.

The film is a twisted coming-of-age tale in which a young man learns that his overbearing father is having an affair. The son tries to stop it, only to become involved with the woman as well. With advice from a questionable, quirky neighbor, the young man learns about love.

This seriously seems like a perfect film for Webb to direct; he's good at telling these kinds of stories. The last we heard, Logan Lerman (Percy Jacksonwas set to play the the role of the young man. There's no word on if he's still attached to star, but the previously attached director, Seth Gordon, obviously isn't.

The producers of Little Miss SunshineRon Yerxa and Albert Berger, have been trying to make the film for the last seven years. It looks like it's finally going to move forward.

Webb is also looking to hopefully direct The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and other projects such as Just Another Love Story, the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, and the sci-fi apocalyptic movie The Age of Rage.

Do PROMETHEUS Deleted Scenes Reveal a Different Ending?

There were a lot questions left unanswered at the end of Ridley Scott's Prometheus. As much as I enjoyed the movie, there were a ton of holes and the ending was a bit all over the place. Turns out about 15 minutes of footage was cut from the ending of the film alone, over 35 minutes total. It looks like those deleted scenes will be available for viewing on the Blu-ray being released, which means many of our questions might end up being answered.

Thanks to Bleeding Cool we have a list of names of 14 deleted scenes that reveal a few interesting things--the last one listed is called Paradise, which is the most interesting one to me.

  • 00:02:31:16 ARRIVAL OF THE ENGINEERS
  • 00:00:58:05 T’IS THE SEASON
  • 00:00:42:08 OUR FIRST ALIEN
  • 00:00:42:14 SKIN
  • 00:01:22:01 WE’RE NOT ALONE ANYMORE
  • 00:02:57:01 STRANGE BEDFELLOWS
  • 00:01:25:04 HOLLOWAY HUNGOVER
  • 00:00:23:12 DAVID’S OBJECTIVE
  • 00:03:27:07 JANEK FILLS VICKERS IN
  • 00:03:40:12 A KING HAS HIS REIGN
  • 00:02:01:24 FITFIELD ATTACKS
  • 00:04:06:06 THE ENGINEER SPEAKS
  • 00:05:30:04 FINAL BATTLE
  • 00:05:05:19 PARADISE

As you can see, "Paradise" takes place after the final battle, which suggests to me that maybe, just maybe, the movie ended with David and Shaw making it to the Engineer planet. If these alien supreme beings or "gods" are from another world, wouldn't that world be heaven? Also referred to as paradise? I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Ed Zwick to Direct Tobey Maguire as Chess Legend Bobby Fischer

$

A couple of years ago a movie about chess legend Bobby Fischer called Pawn Sacrifice was set up at Sony Pictures with David Fincher set to direct and Tobey Maguire producing. After two years of not hearing much of anything on this project, it's back in the news.

Maguire is now officially set to star in the film and will be playing Fischer. He's is a great actor, and I think he'll end up doing an amazing job playing the chess master.

Fincher obviously didn't wait around for the movie to happen so the studio is now in talks with Blood Diamond director Ed Zwick to develop it. Zwick has also directed films such as The Last Samurai and Defiance, and I think he'd be a great choice for the film project. I was just looking forward to seeing what Fincher would do with it.

I'm fascinated by the life of Bobby Fischer; it was quite interesting and colorful. He was a chess prodigy, and one of the greatest chess players of all time. There are some great books and documentaries out there that tell his tale.

What do you think of Zwick directing Maguire in this biopic?

Here's a brief rundown of his life, thanks to wiki:

A chess prodigy, at age 13 Fischer won a "brilliancy" that became known as The Game of the Century. Starting at age 14, he played in eight United States Championships, winning each by at least a point. At age 15½, he became both the youngest grandmaster and the youngest candidate for the World Championship up to that time. He won the 1963–64 U.S. Championship 11–0, the only perfect score in the history of the tournament. In the early 1970s he became one of the most dominant players in modern history—winning the 1970 Interzonal by a record 3½-point margin and winning 20 consecutive games, including two unprecedented 6–0 sweeps in the Candidates Matches. According to research by Jeff Sonas, in 1971 Fischer had separated himself from the rest of the world by a larger margin of playing skill than any player since the 1870s. He became the first official World Chess Federation (FIDE) number-one rated chess player in July 1971, and his 54 total months at number one is the third longest of all time.

In 1972, he captured the World Championship from Boris Spassky of the USSR in a match widely publicized as a Cold War confrontation. The match, held in Reykjavík, Iceland, attracted more worldwide interest than any chess match before or since. In 1975, Fischer declined to defend his title when he could not reach agreement with FIDE over the conditions for the match. He became more reclusive and did not play competitive chess again until 1992, when he won an unofficial rematch against Spassky. The competition was held in Yugoslavia, which was then under a United Nations embargo. This led to a conflict with the U.S. government, which was also seeking income tax from Fischer on his match winnings. Fischer never returned to his native country. After ending his competitive career, he proposed a newvariant of chess and a modified chess timing system. His idea of adding a time increment after each move is now standard, and his variant Chess960 is gaining in popularity.

In his later years, Fischer lived in Hungary, Germany, the Philippines, Japan, and Iceland. During this time he made increasingly anti-American and anti-Israel statements. After his U.S. passport was revoked over the Yugoslavia sanctions issue, he was detained by Japanese authorities for nine months in 2004 and 2005 under threat of deportation. In February 2005, Iceland granted him right of residence as a "stateless" alien and issued him a passport. When Japan refused to release him on that basis, Iceland's parliament voted in March 2005 to give him full citizenship. The Japanese authorities then released Fischer to Iceland, where he lived until his death in 2008.

Lifelike Sculpture of Agent Coulson as Marvel's The Vision

After Agent Coulson was killed off in The Avengers, fanboys and fangirls started to speculate that he could end up coming back as The Vison. We have no idea what the plan for The Vison is, if there even is a plan, but here's an awesome lifelike sculpture showing us what actor Clark Gregg would look like as Vision in the Marvel movie universe. The sculpture was created by Sculpture and Makeup Effects Forum user bhsfx.

If there was a way to bring Agent Coulson back to life this would be the way to do. It will be interesting to see what Marvel ends up doing with this character. Earlier today we posted a speculative rumor about Vin Diesel possibly playing Vision. I'm sure there's going to be a ton of Marvel rumors between now and when we actually figure out what is going on.

In the meantime I hope you enjoy this fantastic fan-made sculpture, which I would love to see become a reality. What do you think of the design? It's a work in progress, so I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product!

NBC has cast legendary actor Malcolm McDowell to play a history professor at Greendale Community College in their hilarious comedy series Community. According to the report, he will play Professor Cornwallis, and appear in two episodes of season 4.

I don't know about you but it would have been awesome to have McDowell as a history professor in real life! That would be the best class ever! This is some great casting, and it will be fun to see him in this series. Another actor that would make for an interesting professor... Christopher Walken as an English teacher. Dear Shia Labeouf, What The Hell Happened?!

$

Dear Shia Labeouf,

I write to you on this day out of concern for your well being. To be fair, I think it started back in 2009 with that odd comment you made about your mother when you said...

Probably the sexiest woman I know is my mother. She’s an ethereal angel. Nobody looks like that woman. If I could meet my mother and marry her, I would. I would be with my mother now, if she weren’t my mother, as sick as that sounds.

As sick as it sounds, I didn't think too much of this. Figured it was some magazine looking to get extra coverage/hype/exposure etc...and dismissed it as a possible gaffe to what would be remembered post Transformers to be the beginnings of a career. So the event drifted out of my mind as the years went on and to be honest, you weren't on my mind again until a recent live performance by Sigur Ros at Lollapalooza compelled me to look for their latest videos. So I'm like "Oh there's nudity in this video...no big deal I'm an adult." and BOOM you're there in the oddest display of expression set to ambient music I've seen to date.

Granted, there's probably more craziness out there, but I don't search it out too often. Coincidentally enough, later that day I hear you directed a video for Marilyn Manson, and of course I click. "Why not?" I tell myself, as Manson has become significantly more tame as years have passed, "Couldn't be that bad, right?" My mind was not prepared for the degradation, nudity, child molestation, amputee, rape fest that awaited me on the click. Seriously, things got dark quick.

I think it was midway through the head shaving that I realized you've lost your f****** mind. There's a fine line between going for an edge, and the dark and odd world that exists in your mind. Not even sure if I can call it art, if I'm being honest, but who am I to judge? I just want to know what the hell happened to you and other child stars who seem to be forever warped by the Hollywood they were forced to perform in since birth.

Think you can answer that for me?

Director Jon Favreau is looking to cast unknown actors in the lead roles for his big screen adaptation of the Broadway Musical Jersey Boys. Auditions will be held in Philadelphia and New York for the four lead characters in the story which will make up the legendary music group, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

I think it's great that Favreau is looking to cast unknows! There's a lot of talent out in the world, and four lucky guys are about to get their big break. It was also revealed that the film will start shooting in New York in January of 2013. The story centers around Valli and the other members of pop music sensation the Four Seasons during their rise to superstardom.

All the information on the auditions can be found at www.jerseyboysmoviecasting.com, which @JonFavreau recently tweeted out.

Here are the descriptions of the four lead roles Favreau is looking to fill:

FRANKIE VALLI – 20-29 yrs old. 5’8″ or under. Italian-American. A small, tenacious, scrappy kid from a tough neighborhood with an unusually high, clear falsetto. He is talented, hardworking and determined to succeed. ABILITY TO SING TENOR PART AND FALSETTO UP TO TREBLE G A PLUS.

BOB GAUDIO – 20-29 yrs old. 5’10″ or taller. Boyish, fresh-faced Bob is the keyboardist. Something of a boy genius, he is smart and savvy beyond his years. ABILITY TO SING TENOR/BARITENOR PART IN TIGHT HARMONY AND KEYBOARD SKILLS A PLUS.

TOMMY DEVITO – 25-35 yrs old. Italian-American. A handsome, charismatic, smooth-talking operator with a quick temper, Tommy is a born hustler from a tough neighborhood and the essence of Jersey cool. ABILITY TO SING TENOR/BARITENOR PART IN TIGHT HARMONY AND GUITAR SKILLS A PLUS.

NICK MASSI 25-35 yrs old. Italian-American. A steady, sturdy, lumbering man of few words with a police record and a strong musical talent. ABILITY TO SING BASS/BARITONE PART IN TIGHT HARMONY AND BASS GUITAR SKILLS A PLUS.

Do you plan on auditioning for any of these roles? If so, good luck!

Here's a synopsis for the musical:

Everyone knows their songs. Few know their story. Named for a bowling alley that refused to book them, The Four Seasons—Frankie, Tommy, Bob, and Nick—were four high school dropouts who emerged from New Jersey to become true American Idols: one of the biggest American pop music sensations of all time. With a shiny doo-wop sound highlighted by lead singer Frankie Valli’s stratospheric falsetto, they wrote their own songs, invented their own sounds, and sold 175 million records worldwide—all before they were thirty.

Jersey Boys, Broadway’s 2006 Tony Award® Winner for Best Musical, is the electrifying tale of the Seasons’ rise, the moment they established their signature sound with their breakout hit “Sherry”; becoming a sensation on American Bandstand, of being young and full of hope and dreams and promise; of riding the rocket of success against the irresistible pull of the Jersey mob and the old neighborhood. Like the show itself, this gorgeous, full-color companion book captures the magic and the original excitement of the band’s life and times through all-new interviews with the band members. It also features the show’s libretto; interviews with the show’s writers, director, and cast; and over 200 photos from the band members’ personal collections of rarely seen memorabilia. For anyone who's ever sung along or danced to "Oh, What a Night!", “Walk Like a Man” or “Big Girls Don’t Cry”, and for those just discovering the timeless sound of The Four Seasons, Jersey Boys is the ultimate keepsake.

Are you Ready for an All-Female EXPENDABLES Movie?

The Expendables 2 was released in theaters this weekend and it was as awesomely badass as I thought it would be! Not only will we be getting a third Expendables movie, but an all-female version of the action-packed franchise will be going into production as well.

Producer Adi Shankar's (The Grey, Machine Gun Preacher, Killing Them Softly) has hired Dutch Southern to write an all-female take on the action franchise. The plan is to cast a group of badass female actresses to star in it, and kick ass. According to Variety the company is already in talks with several prominent actresses affiliated with the action genre.

As far as who they could cast in the film, your guess is as good as mine, a few names I came up with are Sarah Michelle GellarLucy Lawless, Milla Jovovich, Sigourney Weaver, Gina Carano, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Alba, Ali Larter, Lucy Lui, Uma Therman, Kate Beckinsale, and a ton more that could be up for a role in this movie.

What female action stars would you like to see cast in an all female Expendables movie? I have no doubt this movie will be just as successful as the other two, maybe even more so depending on who they cast.

Series Description:

From Terence Winter (Emmy®-winning writer on HBO's The Sopranos) and Oscar®-winning director Martin Scorsese, Boardwalk Empire is set in Atlantic City in 1920 at the dawn of Prohibition. The series chronicles the life and times of Enoch Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi), the city treasurer whose double role as politician and bootlegger makes him the city's undisputed czar at a time when illegal alcohol has opened up highly lucrative opportunities for rumrunners and distributors. In a city defined by notorious backroom politics and vicious power struggles, Nucky must contend with ambitious underlings, relentless Feds, rival gangsters -- including Arnold Rothstein, Lucky Luciano and Al Capone -- and his own appetite for women, profits, and power.
