MAD MAX: FURY ROAD - Plot Revealed

$

0

On July 9th director George Miller started Principal photography on Mad Max: Fury Road, and in a recent press release we finally have some details on the plot as well as a full rundown of the casting.

Here's what Miller had to say in the press release regarding the plot,

Mad Max is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by the Imperator Furiosa. This movie is an account of the Road War which follows. It is based on the Word Burgers of the History Men and eyewitness accounts of those who survived.

Sounds good to me! as for the cast it's got Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) in the title role of Max Rockatansky, Charlize Theron (Monster, Prometheus) as Imperator Furiosa, Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: First Class) as Nux; Hugh Keays-Byrne (Mad Max, Sleeping Beauty) as Immortan Joe; and Nathan Jones (Conan the Barbarian) as Rictus Erectus. Collectively known as The Wives, Zoë Kravitz (X-Men: First Class) plays Toast, Riley Keough (Magic Mike) is Capable, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (Transformers: Dark of the Moon) is Splendid. They are joined by supermodel Abbey Lee Kershaw as The Dag and Courtney Eaton as Fragile, both of whom are making their big screen debuts. Also featured in the movie are Josh Helman as Slit, Jennifer Hagan as Miss Giddy, and singer/songwriter/performer iOTA as Coma-Doof Warrior.

They really decided to go all out on the supermodels for this movie didn't they? I guess an apocalyptic future doesn't seem so bad after all. I'm just excited that this movie is actually happening! There were a few times I thought it would all fall apart, but thankfully it didn't, and a new Mad Max movie is on the way!

Here's the rest of the Press Release:

Principal photography began 9 July on the dystopian action adventure “Mad Max: Fury Road”, a Kennedy Miller Mitchell production written and directed by “Mad Max” creator and Academy Award® winner George Miller (“Happy Feet”). The film will be presented by Warner Bros. Pictures in association with Village Roadshow Pictures. It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.

“Mad Max: Fury Road”—the fourth in the franchise’s history—stars Tom Hardy (“The Dark Knight Rises”) in the title role of Max Rockatansky, alongside Oscar® winner Charlize Theron (“Monster”, “Prometheus”) as Imperator Furiosa.

The cast is rounded out by well-known Australian actors John Howard, Richard Carter, supermodel Megan Gale, Angus Sampson, Joy Smithers, Gillian Jones, Melissa Jaffer and Melita Jurisic.

Miller is directing the film from a screenplay he wrote with Brendan McCarthy and Nico Lathouris. Miller also produces the film, along with longtime producing partner, Oscar® nominee Doug Mitchell (“Babe”, “Happy Feet”), and P.J. Voeten. Iain Smith, Graham Burke and Bruce Berman serve as executive producers.

The behind-the-scenes creative team includes Academy Award®-winning director of photography John Seale (“The English Patient”); action unit director and stunt coordinator Guy Norris (“Australia”); editor Margaret Sixel (“Happy Feet”); production designer Colin Gibson (“Babe”); Oscar®-winning costume designer Jenny Beavan (“A Room with a View”); and makeup designer Lesley Vanderwalt (“Knowing”).

Shooting on “Mad Max: Fury Road” is taking place in Africa with the support of the Australian government. Originally slated to be shot in Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia, the production was forced to relocate due to severe flooding, rendering the Australian landscape unsuitable for the film. The rain turned the area into an oasis instead of the post-apocalyptic terrain that is the setting for Max’s world.

The very first Fankenstien movie was shot over 102 years ago in 1910. It was directed by J. Searle Dawley and was produced by Thomas Edison at his film studio. Since then, there have been around 70 movies made that involve the the monster from Mary Shelley’s legendary novel Frankenstein. Now you can see the movie that started it all. It's only 12 minutes long so enjoy!

CAPTAIN PLANET - Ridiculous and Fun Fan-Made Trailer

$

Last year it was announced that Cartoon Network would be developing a live-action feature film adaptation of Captain Planet. Not sure what the status is on that production, but a fan-made trailer for Captain Planet turned up online, and it gives us a look at how ridiculous a live action movie would actually be.

I was never a big fan of Captain Planet, I didn't really care for it as a kid. I know there are fans out there, I know it taught a good environmental message, but there was no entertainment value in it for me. The fan film was directed by Jay Diaz, and it was made for just fun, so just keep that in mind while watching it.

Yes, I'm sure the feature film version will have a bigger budget to do the effects properly, but it doesn't change the ridiculousness of the content. Check out the fan trailer and let us know what you think about it!

Rupert Sanders to Direct 90 CHURCH Narcotics Squad Film

It looks like Universal Pictures still wants to be in business with Rupert Sanders, the director of Snow White and the Huntsman. The studio just aquired the screen rights to an unpublished book by Dean Unkefer called 90 Church: The True Story of the Narcotics Squad From Hell, for Sanders to direct.

According to Deadline, "The upcoming novel 90 Church refers to the address of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics when it was formed in New York City to combat organized crime and drug traffic in the mid-1960s through early ’70s. While the FBI refused even to acknowledge organized crime, 30 agents stood alone against a well-organized Mafia and vicious drug cartels. To survive against impossible odds, the agents used incredibly brutal and cunning tactics to make cases and bring the war to a stalemate. Using an ever-expanding network of criminal informants held together by secret immunity deals, the sinister reputation of 90 Church grew along with the rising body count. The book is fictionalized but based on true events, written by one of the agents who worked in the Federal Bureau of Narcotics. That bureau later merged with another and became the DEA."

I really like the concept and story behind this book; it isn't set to be released until May 13th 2013, but it sounds like it will make for a great movie. Producers Joe Roth and Palak Patel are currently out looking to hire a high-end screenwriter to write the script.

Does this sound like it will make for a good movie?

Insect Man Cast in KICK-ASS 2

Robert Emms has been cast as Insect Man in the Jeff Wadlow-directed Kick-Ass 2. The British actor has starred in the Tarsem Singh-directed Mirror, Mirror, Steven Spielberg’s Warhorse and Roland Emmerich's Anonymous

Insect Man is kind of a Spider-Man parody. "He claims to be a policeman but uses a costumed secret identity to do things that being a policeman doesn't allow him to do. In legal terms he would be considered a corrupt cop but his intentions appear to be noble. However, he wouldn't be the first superhero to lie about his origins, so anything he says is questionable. He joined Justice Forever, and armed with a baseball bat, assisted them in breaking up a human trafficking organization."

I'm looking forward to this Kick-Ass sequel. I loved the first film, and it sounds like this sequel is going to turn out just as good!

Neil Gaiman Reveals SANDMAN Movie Pitch Art

Comic writer Neil Gaiman tweeted out a link to some great Sandman concept art illustrations created by Jill Thompson. The art was used for a movie pitch that Gaiman delivered to Warner Bros. a few years ago. The studio obviously didn't bite. The art is now on sale for collectors to purchase. I imagine the pitch Gaimen gave went right over the studio executives heads. Hope you enjoy the art!

Disney has released the first film clip for Pixar's newest Toy Story short film Partysaurus Rex. In the short Bonnie takes Rex into the bathtub with her where he "encounters a sad lot of rub-a-dub-dub cohorts." The clip shows Rex starting a party with his new found bathtub friends after the water in the bath is drained.

Here's the synopsis:

As the only available toy with limbs, Rex puts his tiny arms to good use by turning on the water and getting the party going for those dried-out toys on his own – which leads to a sort of bubble-filled rave, complete with glow-in-the-dark toys making disco lights under an overturned colander and dance music by Grammy-nominated electronica musician BT.

Partysaurus Rex will be shown with Finding Nemo 3-D on September 14th. Checkout the clip and let us know if you're looking forward to seeing a new crazy side of the timid Rex as he becomes the life of the party.

A great new featurette has been released for the Pete Travis' insanely violent film Dredd 3D, in which Karl Urban kicks all kinds of crazy ass! The behind the scenes video includes new footage from the film as well as interviews with the creators, cast and crew as they talk about the Judge Dredd character.

The movie finally comes out next month on September 21st, and it also stars Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey. I'm excited for you to see this movie, I honestly don't think you're going to expect the amount of bloody violence that this movie packs in. It might be borderline NC-17. Enjoy the featurette!

2012AUG15 by KUInternational

The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

Insanely Action-Packed Film Clip for THE EXPENDABLES 2

This is the best and most badass clip I've seen from The Expendables 2 so far! It's insanely action-packed, and full of hardcore crazy violence. The clip isn't specified as being red-band, but it should be! Makes me wonder what the unedited version of this scene will be like in theaters! The clip features an all out gun battle in the middle of a crowded airport.

The action movie was directed by Simon West, and features Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Chuck Norris, Dolph Lundgren, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Scott Adkins and Yu Nan.

The movie opens up in theaters on August 17th. I already can't wait for The Expendables 3! Enjoy the clip!

Here's a continuation of the clip above:

Synopsis:

The Expendables are back and this time it’s personal… Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren),Toll Road (Randy Couture) and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) — with newest members Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu Nan) aboard — are reunited when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries. But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them. Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time — six pounds of weapons-grade plutonium; enough to change the balance of power in the world. But that’s nothing compared to the justice they serve against the villainous adversary who savagely murdered their brother. That is done the Expendables way…

ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT Will Introduce New Characters

Arrested Development season 4 is currently in production, which is so unbelievably cool! After years of hoping and waiting, it's actually happening. The show's producer and narrator Ron Howard has revealed that that we'll be seeing some new characters that will be joining the Bluths in their crazy adventures.

He doesn't give any details on who these characters are, but he promised that they will live up to the quirky cast of characters. Here's what Howard had to say about the highly anticipated return of the series in a recent interview with MTV...

It's great. People stopped believing me when I would say 'I think it's going to happen! I can't guarantee it, but I think it's going to happen!' It really is a thrill. I visited the set last week. It's a blast over there. Mitch Hurwitz has such a remarkable, creative voice. It's the perfect set of actors to bring it to life. I'm so glad it's back. I'm a fan, too. The scripts are hilarious.

Mitch isn't trying to recreate something. It's been away for a while, and part of the fun that Mitch has been mining and exploiting is, what's new to discover about these people? What's delightfully unchanged? He and the writing staff and the actors have a fantastic sense of that. They're pretty brazen, pretty bold and fearless. That's what made the show into something that fans really kept alive.

They're having the greatest time getting together and getting back into it. It's cool and bold and funny, and out there taking chances, just like it always did.

How amazing would it be if this fourth season turns out to be the funniest one yet!? I hope this upcoming fourth season and movie aren't the last we see of these characters. Arrested Development must live on!

3 Awesome Sports Films That Weren't Like Real Life

$
0
0

Sports films. They're uplifting, encouraging, and widely well documented, so when you see that "based on a true story" screen, you know for a fact these films will rank more true than most right? Wrong. So wrong. While the events did happen usually the circumstances, outcome, or even the characters will be changed to give that extra dramatic flair that even the most macho of men crave. Be warned, reading the list below may ruin some films that have been near and dear to your heart...starting with one very close to mine.

Remember The Titans

A young team overcomes adversity on many levels to come together and teach a whole community about acceptance? Sounds like a great premise, especially when you throw in the tension between players along the way, things must have been really intense. The only problem was none of it happened. In fact, Coaches Boone and Yoast threw every member who would've caused a ruckus about the integration off the team before camp even started. Sunshine was from Califoooooreignia....but not in the way the movie implied, and sadly, he never once did Tai Chi outside of the school. There were no protests at T.C. Williams High School the players' first day of school--in fact the school was integrated in 1965, a full 6 years before the events of the film took place.

As for the games, the teams they played were not "all white" but integrated as well, as was protocol for Virginia at the time. As far as competition was concerned the Titans were in no way underdogs, but in fact ranked second in the nation that season in standings. Alan Bosley (Ryan Gosling's character) never sat out so that Pete (Donald Faison) could play, because Alan Bosley was a fictional character added to the team. Finally, although it breaks my heart to say, there was no dance warm up routine with an accompanying chant...not ever.

Oh...and Cheryl Yoast wasn't an only child, and didn't care for football all that much.

The Fighter

Yes his brother smoked crack, yes his hand was broken by a cop with a night stick when he tried to interfere with Dicky's arrest, and he was in fact "a fighter". Most of the problems with The Fighter come from timeline switches and flat out fabrication. First off, Ward's losing streak, which the movie implied near the beginning of the film, happened later in his career, and his "must win" fight against Mungo was his actual second professional loss ever in which he went into on a four fight winning streak. The montage sequence of Ward taking down boxer after boxer is full of boxers who didn't exist, and therefore Ward never fought.

In the movie, his fight with Alfonso Sanchez is shown to be the jumping off point for Ward's shot at the title, minus the three years and two losses that he incurred in real life afterwards. Ward did finally get a shot at a WBU title, which is actually not as prestigious as the movie would have you believe. He did win though, but not in miraculous comeback fashion...but in an even fight with the scoring tipped slightly in Ward's favor.

Also Dicky totally pushed Sugar Ray Leonard...there's really no questioning it.

Hoosiers

Remembered as one of the greatest sports movies of all time, Hoosiers is a proud testament to Indiana basketball...and also very false. Make no mistake the miracle of Hickory did happen, except it was called Milan, there is no Hickory, Indiana. The tale of a beloved coach passing away and forcing one of the team's star players to sit out the early part of the season due to depression is a touching story, but also didn't happen. Marvin Wood (Who is Norman Dale/Gene Hackman in the movie) was a second year coach of the team at their time of winning the championship, who did indeed replace the towns most popular coach after he ordered jerseys without permission and was fired by the superintendent of the district.

Dennis Hopper's famous character Shooter, the assistant coach and alcoholic father to one of the players never existed as there were no assistant coaches on the team. As is a common denominator in all our movies thus far, the "Milan Indians" were no underdogs, having a solid returning team who had gone to the semi-finals the year before. The final game itself though, was a close score of 32-30 and is actually just as entertaining to watch as the movie.  That being said said, it is known Hoosiers is entirely inaccurate in its portrayal the event that actually happened save the final 18 seconds of the championship game...

Countless others can make this list so be sure to throw in your selections below!

So here's a bit of strange movie news I never thought I would be reporting. Warner Bros. is teaming up with The WWE to co-produce a new animated Scooby-Doo feature-length film for DVD. Apparently the story will revolve around a mystery that involves WrestleMania.

The only way I can make sense of this is that back in the original Scooby-Doo animated series, the Mystery gang would team up with famous celebrities and sports stars to help solve some of their mysteries. I imagine this is what they plan on doing here.

The WWE has already lined up an all star wrestling voice cast that includes, Triple H, John Cena, Kane, The Miz, Brodus Clay, Santino Marella, Sin Cara, AJ, and WWE chairman/CEO Vince McMahon

My kids love all of this Scooby-Doo stuff, and I'm sure they'll be wanting a piece of this Scooby-Doo action. It's been years since I've seen any episodes myself.
