Sacha Baron Cohen to Make James Bond Movie Spoof

$

Sacha Baron Cohen has sold a comedy movie pitch to Paramount Pictures that will spoof super slick spy James Bond. The film has not been titled yet, but according to Variety the story follows a James Bond-like spy forced to go on the run with his long-lost brother, a moronic soccer hooligan. The report goes on to make a note that "while the spy is expected to bear a resemblance to 007, it won't be Bond."

We can expect to see Baron Cohen in one of the two lead roles. After all, he's starred in every movie that he's written and produced. He will write the film along side Phil Johnston

There's been several spy spoofs that have been made over the years, Austin Powers probably being the best known. Baron Cohen's sense of humor is hit and miss for me, but I'm looking forward to seeing what he's planning for this one. Do you enjoy the actor's films and comedy style?

Penn and Teller Creating NEW(KD) LAS VEGAS Haunted Maze

I was actually in Las Vegas this weekend, and while I was there I caught Pen & Teller's show at the Rio. These guys are so fun to watch up on stage. They have a great show and really know how to entertain the crowd with all kinds of badass magic!

The dynamic duo of magic will bring their incredible “eccentric and edgy illusionist entertainment” to Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights. They've created an elaborate themed 3D haunted house for the event called New(kd) Las Vegas, which is described as a “dark, dilapidated and radioactive version of ‘Sin City’…” A promo video has been released giving us a glimpse of what we can expect from the haunted Vegas maze.

This is awesome for anyone that will be going to the Orlando Florido Universal Studio Halloween Horror Night theme park, unfortunately for the rest of us in Southern California we won't be getting it. Universal already had a 3D maze planned based around Alice Cooper, which is sure not to be as awesome as what Penn & Teller have created.

World-renowned magicians Penn & Teller have accidentally nuked Las Vegas, but don’t worry, it’s nothing a fresh coat of paint and a truckload of BS can’t fix! Come on down to New Vegas, where all that glitters isn’t gold, and in fact probably has fatal levels of radioactivity.

Penn Jillette had this to say in a statement,

We thought it would be really funny if we would do a new act that was really spectacular using nuclear warheads and blew up Vegas and made the whole thing a nightmare, it's not very much of a push from what the city is like now.

For years, people have talked to us about doing a haunted house, but we could never really come up with an idea. It always seemed like an amateurish venture unless you could have the resources that Universal has. It's an artform that they've perfected.

Raymond Teller added,

We normally do the show and the audience sits in the chair. Now the audience gets up and moves through the show.

Check out the promo video below, and let us know if you enjoy the magic and comedy of Penn & Teller.

Super Trippy LILO & STITCH Eye Makeup Art

$

We've posted many of the eye makeup designs of Jangsara. They're always geek-themed and masterfully executed. This design of Stitch from Disney's Lilo & Stitch requires the most double takes. Usually her designs just borrow certain elements or color schemes, but this one utilizes the entire character and uses the eyeball in a very distracting way. I wouldn't be able to hold a conversation with someone with this painted around their eyes. I would just stare at their eyes and imagine Stitch talking whenever they would blink. Then I would yell, "Shut up you alien!!! I don't care what you think the definition of family is!" But that's just me.

This eyeball as the mouth approach opens up a whole new avenue of trippy designs. If she did Mike Wazowski from Mosters, Inc. that would look insane! What other character eye make-up would you like to see done this way?

Hoverboard Test Footage from BACK TO THE FUTURE II

When I first saw Back to the Future II I wanted Hoverboards to be real so badly! My friends and I would debate on whether the boards were real or not. If you would have asked me back then if we'd have real working hoverboard's board by now, I would have said "Hell yeah! Why wouldn't we, it's the future!" I'm still holding out for hope that we'll see hoverboards by 2015 though!

On the Back to the Future II Blu-ray special features there's some awesome pre-production test footage for the hoverboard board chase sequence in the film. It incredibly cool to see how well these special effects were done after all of these years.

For those of you who own the Blu-ray for these movies and haven't watched the special features on them yet what are you waiting for!? You're missing out on some great stuff!

Thanks to /Film for the heads up on this!

WALKING DEAD Season 3 - Disgusting New Zombie Photos

Here's a couple of gruesomely bloody new photos of some prison zombies from the highly anticipated third season of AMC's The Walking Dead. The series is set to return on October 14th, 2012, and I can't wait to see the story continue in this new setting. It looks like we're in for an incredible season!

The zombies in this series just keep getting crazier looking every season.

Based on one of the most successful and popular comic books of all time, written by Robert Kirkman, AMC’s The Walking Dead captures the ongoing human drama following a zombie apocalypse. The series follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln, who are traveling in search of a safe and secure home. However, instead of the zombies, it is the living who remain that truly become the walking dead.

First Look at Pixar's New TOY STORY Short

$

0

Pixar has released a couple of photos giving us our first look at their new Toy Story short film Partysaurus Rex. In the short Bonnie takes Rex into the bathtub with her where he "encounters a sad lot of rub-a-dub-dub cohorts."

Here's what voice actor Wallace Shawn had to say about the character,

He’s sick of being the angel of goodness and sensibleness and caution and fear. He wants to stand on the side of pleasure and happiness and joy. … I live this drama every day of my life!

Here's a more detailed synopsis:

As the only available toy with limbs, Rex puts his tiny arms to good use by turning on the water and getting the party going for those dried-out toys on his own – which leads to a sort of bubble-filled rave, complete with glow-in-the-dark toys making disco lights under an overturned colander and dance music by Grammy-nominated electronica musician BT.

Director Mark Walsh added,

If you’re a bath toy you get really intense playtime. It’s like a party. Then when the water goes down you can’t move. You’re helpless. And that’s pathetic, these guys in bottom of the tub all the time.

What I was going for was, you move to a new town and make new friends, and suddenly you think you have this chance where you can reinvent yourself. I love that Rex, in his sweetness, thinks he can reinvent who he is in the image of a party animal.

It looks we're going to get to see Rex at his craziest, which should be fun! There's also a couple little easter eggs in the images such as Peach the starfish from Finding Nemo, and the furry Sully toilet seat cover.

Partysaurus Rex will be shown with Finding Nemo 3-D on September 14th.

H+ THE DIGITAL SERIES - Episodes 1 & 2 of Bryan Singer's Web Series

It's been a long wait for the Bryan Singer-produced web series H+ The Digital Series. It was written back in 2006, and Singer came on in 2007 to produce. It finally debuted yesterday, and the first two episodes are up for your viewing pleasure. The first episode does a good job of setting up the world - a not too distant future where people are constantly connected to the internet through a device that is implanted directly into the brain. When a virus is unleashed on the network 33% of the human population dies instantly.

There will be 48 3 to 6 minute episodes that follow 14 characters across 12 countries over the course of a decade. The production value on this is fantastic. The short run times might get semi annoying but it'll also keep it digestible and fun. So I'm looking forward to seeing how the drama and story unfolds. Check out the episodes below and let us know if you'll be following this series!

A groundbreaking new series by acclaimed producer Bryan Singer, H+: The Digital Series takes viewers on a journey into an apocalyptic future where technology has begun to spiral out of control... a future where the world's population has retired its cell phones and laptops in favor of a stunning new device by Hplus Nano Teoranta, an innovative technology company that has found a way to connect the Internet to the human mind 24 hours a day.

DEXTER Season 7 Promo Poster and Photos with Yvonne Strahovski

Here's an interesting bit of promo art that's been released for Dexter's seventh season that teases that he could end up on his own table... if he's not careful. As you can see he's got the trademark slash across his cheek, which is the last thing his victims experience before he kills them. I think Dexter is smarter than that though, but he definitely has a series of challenges and issues ahead of him that he has to deal with and overcome.

The new season of Dexter is set to premiere on Sunday, September 30th at 9 p.m., and it picks up right where season six leaves off when... SPOILERS... Dexter's sister Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) walks in to profess her love to to her foster brother as she sees him plunge a sword into Travis.

Executive producer Sara Colleton had this to say in a statement,

She stumbles upon it in the middle of her emotional override: not only does she love her foster brother but she's feeling she's in love with him. It's an emotional reason why she goes there and it's the last thing she expects to find in Dexter in one of his kills.

I can't wait see how this plays out next season! You will find a few more photos below featuring a first look at Yvonne Strahovski, Ray Stevenson and Jason Gedrick

STAR TREK's "Call Me Maybe" Musical Parody

Carly Rae Jepsen's song "Call Me Maybe" sure does have a catchy tune. So catchy in fact that it's caused sci-fi geeks to take the time to painstakingly edit together musical covers of the song using their favorite sci-fi movies and TV series. First there was the Star Wars cover, and now we have this Star Trek: The Next Generation cover of the song created by YouTuber . I think it actually turned out better than the Star Wars version.

On a side note, my little girls listen to this song over and over again throughout the day, and when they aren't listening to it their singing it - the days are getting long. I can't even escape it in the geek world! Even though I'm tired of hearing the song the video is still fun to watch.

And just for the hell of it... Captain Picard Dancing and Singing.

RED DAWN Remake - Official Poster

MGM has released an official poster for the upcoming remake of Red Dawn. The new film is basically the same story but it's North Koreans invading this time around. The film follows a group of teenagers living in middle America who have to save their town from an invasion of North Korean soldiers. That group of teenagers is portrayed by Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, Josh Peck, and Connor Cruise

Here's the synopsis:

In Red Dawn, a city in Washington state awakens to the surreal sight of foreign paratroopers dropping from the sky – shockingly, the U.S. has been invaded and their hometown is the initial target. Quickly and without warning, the citizens find themselves prisoners and their town under enemy occupation. Determined to fight back, a group of young patriots seek refuge in the surrounding woods, training and reorganizing themselves into a guerilla group of fighters. Taking inspiration from their high school mascot, they call themselves the Wolverines, banding together to protect one another, liberate their town from its captors, and take back their freedom.

The movie should finally hit theaters on November 21st of this year. It's hard to think that this movie will turn out to be good. The original film was so bad it was good. This is the feature film debut of Dan Bradley, second unit director of films such as Quantum of Solace, MI: Ghost Protocol, and The Bourne Legacy.

Are you looking forward to seeing this remake? Did you even like the orignal film?

True Story of AMITYVILLE HORROR to Finally be Told

$

Thanks to that crazy haunted house house that resides in Amityville, N.Y. we've seen ten films based on the house, and now this latest addition to the Amityville collection that will supposedly be the "first time ever that the true prequel to the Amityville horror will be told.”

Just a little refresher course... Amityville is home to the infamous house in which Ronald DeFeo, Jr. murdered six members of his family in 1974. George Lutz and his family moved into the house a year later. They were forced to move out of the house 28 days later due to a series of terrifying hauntings they encountered. The case became the subject of Jay Anson’s 1977 book The Amityville Horror: A True Story.

This latest project comes from producer Tony DeRosa-Grund, and it will be based on the experiences of two reporters who investigated the incidents for New York TV station WNEW, Laura DiDio and Marvin Scott. On March 6th 1976 a 19-year-old Didio got permission from George Lutz to visit the house, where she held a séance that apparently resulted in seeing ghostly presences, one of which included a young boy. DiDio had this to say in a statement,

Marvin and I are thrilled to be working with Tony and Evergreen. I lived through this horrific ordeal and I am the only person who has the ability to tell the true Amityville prequel story in its entirety. Even after all these years, after what I personally experienced, there is nothing anyone could ever do or say to get me back in that house.

The project will be shopped around as a found footage film, and video of the news report’s séance will be used in the film. According to THR, the producer tracked down a copy of the report as well as additional video footage that Scott had in his possession. The footage was thought to have been lost. The movie will be built around their experiences investigating the Amityville house and their discoveries about what happened there before the Lutzes moved in.

The producer adds, "They discerned certain things during the sequence, which heretofore had not been corroborated. With a lot of help from Laura and from the Catholic Church, we’ve been able to get confirmations and connective tissues, in terms of the evil and the origins of evil in the house that was there before the Lutzes moved in."

This film project has sparked my interest. It definitely has potential to be great and scary horror film. Dimension and Miramax announced last year that they would be developing a project of their own called The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes, that would be produced by Paranormal Activity’s Jason Blum. That project also involves found footage and a TV news intern investigating the Amityville case.

What do you think about this Amityville Horror movie idea?

Here's the list of ten films that have previously been made...

  • The Amityville Horror (1979)
  • Amityville II: The Possession (1982)
  • Amityville 3-D (1983) (made in 3-D, and has also been released as Amityville III: The Demon)
  • Amityville 4: The Evil Escapes (1989)
  • The Amityville Curse (1990)
  • Amityville: It's About Time (1992)
  • Amityville: A New Generation (1993)
  • Amityville Dollhouse (1996)
  • The Amityville Horror (2005 remake)
  • The Amityville Haunting (2011)

Have you ever been in a conversation with a film snob? Have you wanted to toss some of that lingo back in their faces? Well here's a simple guide from the guys at MadAtoms that helps you with just that.

We here at GeekTyrant throw around words like "awesome" like confetti at a New Years party, but we're fine with that. We like writing about movies the way we'd talk about it with each other or any of our friends. So I don't think we'll get to use this guide. But the graphic is quite funny, and damn accurate... some might say, it's awesome.

What's your favorite bullsh*t term that people use to describe movies?

Story Behind DOCTOR WHO Being Developed as TV Movie

To celebrate Doctor Who's 50th anniversary BBC TWO will be developing a TV movie called An Adventure In Space And Time. It will tell the interesting story behind the creation of Doctor Who, which was first broadcast on November 23rd 1963.

Mark Gatiss has been hired to write the 90-minute movie about the making of one of the most iconic sci-fi TV series ever made. Gatiss is quoted as saying:

This is the story of how an unlikely set of brilliant people created a true television original. And how an actor - William Hartnell - stereotyped in hard-man roles became a hero to millions of children. I've wanted to tell this story for more years than I can remember! To make it happen for Doctor Who's 50th birthday is quite simply a dream come true.

Current Doctor Who showrunner, Steven Moffat, will be an executive producer on the project who says,

The story of Doctor Who is the story of television - so it's fitting in the anniversary year that we make our most important journey back in time to see how the TARDIS was launched.

There's no information on casting, when it will go into production, or when it will air. Most of that should be confirmed next year.

HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS to be Rated R

$

It seems like it's been a long time since we've heard or seen anything from Tommy Wirkola's (Dead Snow) fantasy action film Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. Paramount Pictures has been doing test screenings for audiences recently, and there seemed to be a little confusion on the rating. IMDB users were saying that the studio was testing both a PG-13 version of the film and a R-rated version. Turns out there never was a PG-13 rated version. Collider has confirmed with their sources that the movie will indeed be rated R.

The story takes place 15 years after the Grimm's Fairy Tale siblings' incident at the gingerbread house. The film finds Hansel and Gretel working as bounty hunters, tracking down supernatural beings. Jeremy Renner (The Avengers), Gemma Arterton (Clash of Titans) and Famke Janssen (X-Men) star in the movie.

The test screenings have been generating a good amount of positive buzz. People that have seen it point out the violence, humor, and fun action of the film. In a previous interview with Arterton she made these statements describing the movie as "a mix of Pulp Fiction and fairly tale." She went on to say...

The heart of it is that these kids grow up to be bloodthirsty witch hunters. It’s a bit tongue in cheek, really.

Though it’s comedic, deep down it’s about abused kids becoming kind of hyper-responsible?
But it’s also very, very dark, and bloodthirsty and there’s a lot of cursing. It’s kind of got a [Quentin] Tarantino feel, really.

The last we heard, the studio moved the release date from March of this year to January 11th 2013, and it will be released in 3D. I'm looking forward to seeing how this flick turned out, I love that it got an R-rating, and it just sounds like a ton of fun. Bring on the bloody R-rated fairytale violence!
