Fans are going crazy over The Flash, The CW's comic book series about the Scarlet Speedster. The network just released a brand new featurette that looks at some of the visual effects of the first season, and even teases a few sequences from the upcoming highly-anticipated second season, including one involving The Atom Smasher. Take a look below, and make sure to tune into The Flash when it returns to TV on Tuesday, October 6th.

Matt Damon Passed on DAREDEVIL in 2003, Would Star In New Version If Chris Nolan Directs

Here's a piece of trivia some comic book movie fans might not know: Matt Damon was apparently offered the role of Daredevil in the 2003 movie before his buddy Ben Affleck, and Damon ended up passing on it. In a new interview to promote his film The Martian, Damon told the New York Daily News:

"For us it was always 'Daredevil' — that's the comic we read when we were kids. But when that one came along (in 2003) I chickened out, because I couldn't tell. I hadn't seen the director (Mark Steven Johnson's) work and I didn't know. So I just said, 'No.' Ben [Affleck] was like, 'I gotta do it."

How different would Damon and Affleck's careers been had Damon taken that role first? Affleck probably wouldn't have married Jennifer Garner, and a case could probably be made that he may not have developed into the solid director he's become today. I wonder if Damon is playing Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in that alternate timeline somewhere...

In the meantime, Damon said it wasn't entirely out of the realm of possibility that he'd suit up as The Man Without Fear one day — but only for the right director:

"If Chris Nolan came up to me and said, 'I want to do Daredevil,' I would be in."

I don't think Damon actually thinks that's going to happen (he was probably just humoring the reporter who asked the question), but considering Nolan's relationship with cross-town rivals Warner Bros. and DC, it seems incredibly unlikely that he'd go work for Marvel on a live-action Daredevil movie, especially when Charlie Cox is already kicking ass in the role on Netflix. But there's another (probable) missed opportunity to file into that alternate timeline for comic book film fans.

The Sports Almanac From BACK TO THE FUTURE II Sold for $7K

the-sports-almanac-from-back-to-the-future-ii-sold-for-7k

This is the original Grays Sports Almanac prop that was used in Back to the Future Part II. In an auction of movie props, it sold for £4,750, which in U.S. dollars is $7,200. This makes me wonder how much Marty McFly actually bought the vintage Almanac for in 2015 in the movie. There’s no way he had that much money on him!

Other items from Back to the Future that sold at the auction include:

  • A prototype Hill Valley High School letterman jacket (£600)
  • The torn phone book page Marty used to find Doc Brown (£1,700)
  • A plutonium fuel cell  (£3,000)
  • Marty’s fedora from Part II (£5,000)
  • Two USA Today front pages from 2015 featuring Marty McFly Jr’s escapades (£1,800 and £2,750)

Villain Cast in Tom Cruise's JACK REACHER 2

Patrick Heusinger has been cast as the main villain in Tom Cruise and Ed Zwick's Jack Reacher 2. Heusinger is from Bravo's series Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce, which I've never seen. I don't watch anything on Bravo.

I have no idea if he's a good actor or not, but this is going to be a great role for him to take on! He will join Cobie Smulders, Aldis Hodge, and Danika Yarosh, who have also joined the film.

The movie franchise is based on the series of Lee Child novels, and according to Variety, the sequel will be based on the book Never Go Back, "in which Reacher travels from South Dakota to the Virginia headquarters of the U.S. Army Military Police Corps and finds that his new commanding officer has been arrested."

Yarosh (Heroes Reborn) is playing a girl who might be Jack Reacher’s daughter; Smulders is playing a character named Danika, who could be the film’s version of Susan Turner; and Hodge's character is described as "the hunter." There are no details on Heusinger's villainous role in the movie.

Jack Reacher 2 shoots this fall and will be released on October 21th, 2016. I thought the first film was great, and I'm looking forward to seeing what this sequel has to offer.

With the upcoming Suicide Squad movie coming out next year, we’re going to start seeing a lot of cosplay based on those characters, but the one we'll probably see most is going to be of Margot Robbie’s version of Harley Quinn. The cosplay you see in these photos features Luna Lanie, and she looks absolutely stunning. The photos were taken by Martin Wong

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Is The Culmination of a Trilogy

The first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse is rumored to be attached to Ridley Scott’s The Martian. While we wait for the first trailer to be released ,we have some words from producer Simon Kinberg regarding the film and how it fits win the rest of the franchise. This is what he told Collider in a recent interview:

"It delivers on the dramatic story and emotion of the last two movies. It feels like the culmination of the four main characters really — McAvoy, Fassbender, Nic Hoult, and Jen [Lawrence]. And it’s a bigger movie in both physical scale and I would say emotional stakes too because it is the culmination of this mini trilogy of stories."

After X-Men: Apocalypse is released, who knows what director Bryan Singer or 20th Century Fox have planned. You can expect the franchise to definitely keep rolling forward, though. I assume if this is the culmination of these four characters, the next set of films will focus on the younger generation of mutants such as Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Nightcrawler, Jubilee, and more.

WONDER WOMAN Screenwriter on How The DCEU Is Different From The MCU

While promoting his upcoming film Pan, screenwriter Jason Fuchs talked to Collider about how the DC Cinematic Universe is going to be different than the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I think it's pretty easy to see what they are doing differently, and Warner Bros. is taking things to a darker level than Marvel. Fuchs is rumored to be one of the writers working on WB's Wonder Woman film. He wouldn't confirm or deny that he has the job, but when asked about it, he did say, "Warners has been very kind to me, I have to say." I'm sure the guy is involved with the development in some capacity. He then goes on to talk about the differences of the universes saying:

"This is what I would say. When you work for DC, it’s sort of like working for the CIA. You have a vow of silence. I think, as we speak, Zack Snyder’s gonna come in here and put a muzzle on me. The trouble with these things is that you really can’t say much. So I’m excited about everything that’s going on in that universe. And I’ve certainly read the same reports you’ve read about my involvement and what that might be, but I can only speak to it as a fan. I can tell you, I am someone who from a very young age was a huge fan of DC Comics. A huge fan of that key troika in the Justice League of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, as well as all the other characters.
"So I am very, very happy that that DC Cinematic Universe is finally being fleshed out. I don’t think it’s any secret that people who have seen the Batman v Superman trailer, the Suicide Squad trailer can see that this is a very different cinematic universe than the one that Marvel has constructed over at Disney, or the one that Simon Kinberg and company have constructed with X-Men over at Fox. It’s a really specific, grand, slightly darker, slightly grittier place. As a fan of those comic books, a fan of those movies, I’m excited to see where it goes next."

We have yet to see what WB is exactly planning with their universe. We have an idea from the films they have lined up, but how these stories all play out and how they are connected is still kind of a mystery. The first film that is really going to launch their future plans is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. After that, the DC Universe is going to finally explode on the big screen! Hopefully, it's what the fans really want to see.

Ten Best Planetary Vehicles From the STAR WARS Universe

ten-best-planetary-vehicles-from-the-star-wars-universe

If you didn’t already know, StarWars.com has a web-series called the StarWars.com 10, and it breaks down the ten best things from certain aspects of the Star Wars universe. This latest episode points out the ten best planetary vehicles that have been created in the Star Wars universe. You can watch the video below, and under that you will find a written break-down just in case you can’t watch the video. In case you missed the previous episodes, I included all of them at the very bottom of the post.

In this installment, we’re picking the galaxy’s greatest modes of on-world transportation, from those built for speed to those built for Sarlacc sightseeing.

Here's a breakdown of the ten vehicles mentioned in the video above:

10. AT-TE
Meet a battle droid battalion's worst nightmare. Stomping over all opposition to open our list is the AT-TE, or all All Terrain Tactical Enforcer. A giant, walking tank, the 6-legged AT-TE has everything a clone trooper needs to clear out plenty of clankers. That’s probably why three of the Republic’s best made one their retirement home.
9. Imperial Troop Transport
It was created to spread tyranny in playrooms, and now does so on Lothal and other Empire-ruled worlds. In addition to stormtroopers and cargo, the Imperial Troop Transport moves prisoners – on display for all to see – making it a powerful tool of intimidation. While we’d never recommend backing down from Imperials, be ready for a fight.
8. Snowspeeder
Looking to find lost Rebels or take down AT-ATs on a desolate ice world? You want a snowspeeder. With a sleek wedge-shaped design, and a smaller frame that allows for quick turns and blazing speed, this Rebel craft can do it all.
7. Sandcrawler
When you’re in the droid business, you need some trunk space. And the Sandcrawler has plenty. It’s essentially a moving fortress, featuring massive treads, an imposing exterior, and the tools and room to move product quickly.
6. Republic Attack Gunship
How do you kick off the Clone Wars in style? With THIS. The Republic Attack Gunship is tailor-made for battle-droid destruction: it has laser turrets, rocket launchers, and very cool cockpit bubbles we’d LOVE to try out.
5. Landspeeder
Perfect for a desert drive or arms-deal date, the landspeeder is among the galaxy’s most popular on-world transports. Models differ in design, from the pointed nose of the V-35 to the cool half-dome windshield and turbine trio of the X-34, but all look sharp. FYI: when you’re looking for a runaway astromech, a landspeeder is the ONLY way to travel.
4. Sail Barge
For Tatooine crime lords with a taste for the…finer things, a luxury sail barge is essential. The ultimate symbol of excess, the sail barge has room for hundreds of guests and space for all kinds of live entertainment. Still, no sail barge is Jedi and princess-proof.
3. Pod racer
Two high-powered engines. One open-air cockpit. All awesome. The Podracer is one of the most fun and unique vehicles of a galaxy far, far away, with unmatched velocity and a totally original look.
2. Speeder bike
In the forests of Endor, on the streets of Lothal, and almost everywhere else, you’ll find the amazing speeder bike. Blindingly fast, it requires great skill to drive and maneuver, and the forked front and blaster cannons only add to its cool quotient. If that doesn’t convince you, just remember: speeder bikes are Ewok approved.
1. AT-AT
It is immense in size. It is second to none in firepower. And it is near unstoppable. An AT-AT, or All-Terrain Armored Transport, represents the might and mercilessness of the Empire. It has a menacingly cold, high-tech aesthetic — a perfect match for those inside. And the sight, sound of, or tremor felt from the walker’s thunderous steps can strike fear in the heart of the most seasoned Rebel. The AT-AT is memorable and awe-inspiring, no matter which side you’re on. That’s why we rank it #1.

Annie Potts is the Latest Original GHOSTBUSTERS Cast Member to Cameo in The Reboot

Earlier this week, we learned that Ernie Hudson shot a cameo scene in the Ghostbusters reboot on the last day of shooting. It has also been revealed that Dan Aykroyd will have a cameo as a taxi driver, and Bill Murray will play a ghost debunker in the movie. It was also announced yesterday that Sigourney Weaver would be back.

We've now learned from AICN that original Ghostbusters cast member Annie Potts is joining the reboot cameo party! She played the Ghostbusters' secretary Janine Melnitz in the first couple of films. She was a fun character, but I don't care for that silly reinvention they did of her in the sequel.

There's no word on her cameo role in the sequel, but it's cool that they were able to get her in there. Oh! And in case you missed them, check out the director's tweets lashing out at all the Ghostbusters reboot haters.

Disney has released the official details for the new Star Wars-themed experiences coming to Disneyland. These are for their “Season of the Force” event that starts on November 16th, and it will be taking place at both Disneyland in Anaheim and in Orlando.

This is the list of things that will be taking place at the Disneyland theme park:

  • Star Wars Launch Bay – This new area will offer opportunities to visit with favorite Star Wars characters, special exhibits, peeks at the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens and much more.
  • Star Tours – The Adventures Continue – This popular attraction will feature a new scene inspired by the upcoming film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
  • Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple – Coming in December, a twist on the Jedi Training experience will introduce new characters and a new villain from the popular Disney XD series, Star Wars Rebels.
  • Hyperspace Mountain – For a limited time, guests will join an X-wing starfighter battle in this reimagining of the classic Space Mountain attraction.
  • Other limited-time experiences include:
  • An opportunity to revisit favorite scenes from classic Star Wars films at Tomorrowland Theater.
  • Special themed food and beverage, merchandise and entertainment.

Disney also provided details on their Star Wars Land expansion. The ground-breaking for the project is scheduled to take place in 2016, and it will be their largest single-land expansions ever by covering 14-acres of land at both parks. They then announced some of the attractions that will be closing down while they build the Star Wars expansion:

Work to make room for this new land at Disneyland park in California will require the Rivers of America and the Disneyland Railroad to close temporarily. The following will suspend operations at the end of the operating day on January 10:
  • The Disneyland Railroad, including all stations

  • Attractions along the Rivers of America, including:

  • “Fantasmic!”

  • Mark Twain Riverboat and Sailing Ship Columbia

  • Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island

  • Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes

Elsewhere in Frontierland, Big Thunder Ranch – including Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue, Big Thunder Ranch Petting Farm and Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree – will close permanently at the end of the operating day on January 10.

It sucks that some of these things are going away for a while, but it's a small sacrifice to make for something so epically awesome! We'll fill you in on any other details as they become available.

Review: SCREAM QUEENS Knocks It Out of The Park

review-scream-queens-knocks-it-out-of-the-park

Do you know what's really hard to make? A parody TV show or movie. As a writer of parodies, there is always a fine line you walk to make sure you make something funny but not too zany, mimicking and emphasizing certain tropes without outright winking at the audience. We've seen successes in parody filmmaking with such movies as the first Scary Movie, Airplane, and Young Frankenstein. We've also seen failures, as seen in any movie made by Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg (Disaster Movie, Epic Movie, Date Movie, Meet the Spartans). But they are failures as filmmakers in general, so I can't really give them much credit in any aspect. The idea of making a TV series parody is a dangerous one, especially a horror parody. For one, you have to keep jokes fresh and funny while still keeping a strong narrative. Secondly, you have to not just rehash all the old jokes. Plus...well, let me just cut to the chase: the new Fox series Scream Queens knocks it out of the park.

It is rare that I will laugh out loud while watching a TV series by myself, but there are so many good moments in Scream Queens that I couldn't help but guffaw at the jokes. The first episode does so many right things from the get-go, including having a spectacular cast. Emma Roberts plays the role of Queen Bee of a sorority to a tee, from pouty faces to false kindness to glares that would give the Queen of England a run for her money. I know Roberts is a good actress, but this show really shows how versatile she truly is. Also outstanding is the good girl, Grace, played by Skyler Samuels. I knew very little about Samuels before this, but now I'm expecting big things for her future. She is definitely a breakout star in the making. She manages to do something very few actors and actresses are able to: be the straight character in a comedy but still be a fully fleshed out and funny character. She's not just a character we can relate with, but a character that we want to be. All the actors do a fantastic job, though. Everyone has beautiful moments, which is greatly due to such witty writing. They are all twisted and hilarious stereotypes of classic '90s horror, with new ones thrown in for good measure. One of the most hilarious characters introduced in the series is "Deaf Taylor Swift." I'll just let that name sit with you and make you want to watch the show even more.

This show manages to capture so many brilliant types of comedy that anyone watching it will get a laugh somewhere. There were some jokes that maybe weren't my favorite, but shortly after, they'd hit me with one that resonated greatly. I often found myself recognizing how clever and addictive this show was, not only in its comedy bits but also its story. It doesn't spoon-feed you everything all at once. There is a mystery of a murder going on which leaves interesting cliffhangers and questions unanswered in the episode. The best thing they do is manage to still take the show seriously. It's a satire of horror as well as modern college students which makes huge over the top jokes that would normally take people out of a show, but because of the tone and actors' amazing ability to play everything so real, it just makes you more intrigued.

Finally, the choice of putting in classic scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis was brilliant. When first hearing of it, I thought it was just a media ploy to get viewers to watch, but Curtis is hilarious. No one else could play the role of the vicious Dean Munsch as well as her. She brings her own gravitas and presence that rivals that of even Kevin Spacey in House of Cards or James Spader in The Blacklist. Bold claim, I know, but she makes the horror/comedy genre her own and overshadows so many of the others on screen with her.

This is a must watch for October. If the first episode is any indicator of the rest of the series, this show is going to be my favorite show of the year. If you like the horror genre or are just in the mood for a good comedy, check it out. Scream Queens delivers fantastic comedy without sacrificing an interesting story. Step aside Scream and Scary Movie, this is the new horror/comedy standard in TV and filmmaking.

New Motion Poster For PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE GHOST DIMENSION

new-motion-poster-for-paranormal-activity-the-ghost-dimension

This is the new poster and motion poster for Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension. They feature a little girl staring into the gateway of the other dimension. This is said to be the last film in the franchise, and as much as I’ve enjoyed it, I really hope it is. This is just one of those horror franchises that needs to die already.

Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension centers on the Fleeges — father Ryan (Chris J. Murray), mother Emily (Brit Shaw) and their young daughter Leila (Ivy George) — who move into a house and discover a video camera and a box of tapes in the garage. When they look through the camera’s lens, they begin to see the paranormal activity happening around them – including the re-emergence of young Kristi and Katie.

Producer Jason Blum had this to say in a previous interview:

“All the questions that everyone has asked from the past ‘Paranormal Activity’ films: What does Toby look like? What’s the backstory to the families? These questions have been teased out. Now they will be answered.”

Gregory Plotkin directs The Ghost Dimension from a script by Adam Robitel, It’s set to open in theaters on October 23rd.

Mila Kunis and Rob Zombie Developing a Horror/Comedy Series Called TRAPPED

Starz is working on a horror comedy series called Trapped, which is being developed by the unlikely team of Mila Kunis and Rob Zombie. They have teamed up to the produce the series, and Zombie is also set to direct it.

The series was created by Joey Slamon (Arrested Development), and the story “takes place over a single night in the home of a wealthy family under attack by a murderous cult.”

That definitely sounds like something that Rob Zombie would want to be a part of. I’ve never been a big fan of Zombie’s film work, especially the Halloween remakes he directed. But, maybe TV will be a better medium for him to work in.

The plot interests me, and as a fan of horror comedies, I’m curious to see where they go with this.

Clint Eastwood’s IN THE LINE OF FIRE Will Be a TV Series

Yet another movie is being adapted as TV series. NBC is planning to adapt Clint Eastwood’s 1993 presidential assassination thriller In The Line of Fire for the small screen. The upcoming show will be developed at Sony Pictures TV, and they hired CSI scribes Josh Berman and Carol Mendelsohn to write it. According to Deadline, “the network has given the In the Line of Fire TV series a scripted commitment.”

According to the report, the series centers on “a Secret Service agent who, after a fall from grace, gets the chance to redeem himself when a rogue CIA hitman threatens to assassinate the president. The agent and his female partner will investigate cases while engaged simultaneously in a twisted cat-and-mouse with the would-be assassin, who will upend their lives — forcing them to question their loyalties both professional and personal.”

Last week, it was announced NBC was also developing a series based on Liam Neeson’s Taken. These shows also join other film-to-TV adaptations including Minority Report on FOX and Limitless on CBS. It will be interesting to see how this trend of TV shows based on movies goes.

The original In The Line of Fire film was directed by Wolfgang Petersen and also starred John Malkovich, Rene Russo, Dylan McDermott, Gary Cole, and John Mahoney. I liked the movie, but I don’t really have any interest in seeing it turned into a TV show.

Does an In the Line of Fire TV series sound like something you’d be interested in watching? What other feature films do you think are ripe for television adaptations? Let us know in the comments below!

Michael Shannon and Jeff Nichols Team Up Again For LOVING

$

Michael Shannon and Jeff Nichols are two talented individuals that have made great movies together. They are now set to make an interracial marriage drama called Loving, which will be the fifth movie that they will have worked on together. A couple of those films include Mud and Take Shelter. This may not be considered a “geek” movie, but I like to promote talented filmmakers that consistently make good films.

Richard and Mildred Loving were married in June of 1958. As a result, authorities broke into their home, arrested them, and they were sentenced to a year in the state penitentiary. This sentence was suspended on the condition that they be exiled from the state of Virginia. Richard and Mildred would spend the next nine years fighting to get home. All of this, because Richard was a white man and Mildred a black woman. LOVING is a story about marrying the one you want and finding the one you need.

The movie also stars Joel Edgerton (Black Mass) and Ruth Negga (World War Z) as Richard and Mildred, Nick Kroll as Bernie Cohen, Jon Bass as Phil Hirschkop, Marton Csokas as Sheriff Brooks, Bill Camp will play Frank Beazley, and Shannon will play Grey Villet, “the LIFE Magazine photographer who shot the iconic images of the Lovings in 1965.”

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know every kind of monkey that resides in the animal kingdom. Well, this is the Wolf's mona monkey and it has a helluva close resemblance to Wolverine. It's mostly in the color scheme, but Wolverine looks closer to this monkey than he does to an actual wolverine.

New TV Spot For Keanu Reeves’ Awful Film KNOCK KNOCK

$

It’s no secret that I’m not a big fan of Eli Roth and his crappy movies. He’s got another one coming out soon called Knock Knock, and this seriously might just be Keanu Reeves’ worst movie. Now, I’m a huge fan of Reeves, and I’ve enjoyed a lot of the films that he’s starred in, but Knock Knock is not one of them. The performance he gives is embarrassingly bad. For some reason, though, he decided to star in the film. You get a taste of that bad acting in the trailer.

I assume there’s some kind of audience out there for a movie like this, it just wasn’t for me. There’s no Eli Roth film that is for me, actually. You can read my review for the movie right here. I guess if you’re up for some laughs watching Reeves be tortured by two young girls, then maybe you’ll enjoy it.

We’ve got a new extended TV spot that you can check out below. But first, here’s the synopsis:

Evan Webber (Reeves) is living the dream. Just look at his beautiful, successful wife, his two wonderful kids, and his truly stunning house—which he designed himself. Of course he did. Things are going so well, Evan doesn't even mind spending Father's Day alone while the rest of his family heads out for a beach weekend. And then there’s a knock on the door.
The two young women (Lorenza Izzo and Ana de Armas) standing on Evan's doorstep are where Evan's dream takes a nightmarish turn. Things get weird, and then dark, and then much, much, much darker. Evan's life—and house—get ripped apart, piece by beautiful piece.

The movie hits theaters on October 9th if you’re interested in seeing it.

Teaser Spot for Marvel's JESSICA JONES Series - "Good Morning"

Marvel has released a short promo spot for their upcoming Netflix series Jessica Jones. It's called "Good Morning," and it features a very hung over Jones who clearly isn't ready to get out of bed at three in the afternoon. I'm honestly not sure what to expect from this series, but Marvel doesn't make crap, so I'm sure it will be good!

After a tragic ending to her short-lived Super Hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases in New York City. It's time the world knew her name...

The series stars Krysten Ritter in the title role, David Tennant (Kilgrave), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Rachael Taylor (Trish Walker), Carrie-Anne Moss, Eka Darville, Erin Moriarty, and Wil Traval, among others. Every episode of Jessica Jones will be released on Netflix on November 20th.
