Jared Leto Teases His Disturbing Joker Performance in SUICIDE SQUAD

Judging from the first trailer for David Ayer's Suicide Squad, Jared Leto is going to give an insane performance as the Joker. This version of the villain is very different from any other portrayal that we've seen before. Leto took this role very seriously, and from what we've heard, he transformed himself into a crazy man to bring the Joker to life.

Leto recently did a Q&A at Dubai Music Week, and when a fan wearing a Batman shirt went up to ask him a question, the actor noticed the shirt and then teased how chilling his performance would be. The National was in attendance, and this is their recap of what happened:

And to the wise-guy who turned up in a Batman shirt? “You’re really brave,” deadpanned Leto, before letting out a deranged laugh, referencing his upcoming role as The Joker in Suicide Squad. "I can’t wait for you to see this – they’re going to lock me away in a box after this movie comes out."

It sounds like his portrayal could end up being even more insane than we think it will be. I liked what I saw of the Joker in the trailer, but there's obviously going to be a lot more to him than just that. I'm looking forward to seeing how far Leto actually went into la-la-land to bring Joker to life.

ATTACK ON TITAN Stop-Motion Animated Fan Film with Godzilla!

You've got to watch this incredibly awesome stop-motion animated fan film for Attack on Titan. It features Mikasa in action as she battles her way through several titans, eventually leading her to a confrontation with the legendary Godzilla.

This is the first of several episodes that could eventually be released. This episode is called "Shocked," and the series was created by Jordan Tseng. As you'll see, he did a great job creating it! This is a violently action-packed thrill ride, and if you're a fan of the series, then you're sure to enjoy it. Here's a note from the creator:

"I spent 2 month to make this video, it's my first try to use CG background, so I spent most of my time on compositing. Because it's too time-consuming that I can't afford it along, I think I can't make episode 2 until I find someone who are able to let me apportion some job. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this video, thanks for all your supporting!"

Hopefully Tseng gets the support he needs because I'd love to see the rest of these episodes get made. I really want to see that fight between Mikasa and Godzilla!

Mark Millar on FANTASTIC FOUR’s Failure and Josh Trank’s Brilliance

$

Yep, Fantastic Four was a fantastic failure, and Fox lost about $100 million on the movie. There’s a handful of people out there that seem to have liked it, though. For those of you who don’t know, comic book writer Mark Millar is a consultant at Fox to help with all things Marvel. I’m not sure how much of a role he had in the development of this film, but I guess it doesn’t matter now because what’s done is done.

During an interview with IGN, Millar addresses the film's failure, but doesn’t dismiss the movie entirely. He also calls director Josh Trank "brilliant" for some reason:

"It's a shame because I think elements of it were good. Some bits were good. I remember the first half in particular works well. [Josh Trank] is brilliant. Chronicle was my favorite superhero movie in 2012 -- and be reminded Avengers was out that year. I really love Chronicle. It's just a shame sometimes things don't work out as planned. Nobody goes in hoping it's not going to work out. Everybody is trying their best and those guys worked their asses off. It didn't quite come together as well as they hoped, which is a shame."

Yeah, Chronicle was NOT better than The Avengers, and Trank is obviously not brilliant. Millar is smoking crack. I enjoy the comics the guy writes, but now I don’t think I trust his judgment in movies. He goes on to talk about the future of the Fantastic Four franchise:

"I think everything's open to discussion. No decision I think has been made on anything yet like that. There's chats everyone's going to have on the phone at some point, but the Marvel brand is such a powerful brand. Marvel doesn't always work out great — Thor 2 didn't work out especially well, Iron Man 2 didn't work. But then Iron Man 3 comes along and it's great. These things can be uneven sometimes. Avengers 2 is nowhere near as good as Avengers 1.

Fox would be crazy to try and keep this franchise rolling without Marvel. Millar says that the Marvel brand doesn’t always work out great, but it kind of does. All of those movies he mentioned as being lackluster still have a ton of fans, and they are all financial successes. So in all reality, they were all successes. Let's look at the Rotten Tomatoes ratings on the films he mentioned: Thor: The Dark World - 66%, Iron Man 2 - 72%, Iron Man 3 - 79%, Avengers - 92%, and Avengers: Age of Ultron - 74%. I’d say that’s pretty consistently solid. What is the score for Fantastic Four? 9%. So with Marvel on board to help out with Fantastic Four, it’s pretty much guaranteed that they could help get the franchise above 9%.

Millar then went on to address Steven Spielberg’s comments that superhero films were going to go the way of the western. He said:

"The human race will go the way of the Western. Everything has to end at some point. [Laughs] We're just going to be atoms. It's inevitable. I think [the superhero movie genre has] got at least another good five years. The stuff that's coming up is so strong."

I think the superhero genre has got a lot longer than five years! By the time the Avengers: Infinity War films are released, there’s no doubt that fans are going to want more. As far as Fantastic Four goes, that franchise is dead, and it will be as long as Fox has ahold of it.

Watch Thor Get Possessed in a Deleted Scene from AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Here is a deleted scene from Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. It features Thor in the Norn Cave, only instead of seeing a bunch of crazy random visions, he is possessed by Legion and then questioned by Erik Selvig about what they need to do to stop Ultron. There is talk of the Infinity Stones, more specifically the Mind Stone. It seems to me like this whole realm that Thor tapped into in this clip could also serve as a connection to Doctor Strange because of the supernatural elements of it. Check it out for yourself and let us know what you think!

Vin Diesel Confirms One Final FAST AND FURIOUS Trilogy

Last week a rumor hit the internet that Vin Diesel is being difficult to work with on the Fast and Furious franchise and that Universal Pictures is having a problem locking down a director for the next movie since Justin Lin and James Wan both decided the didn’t want to come back to helm it.

Diesel took to Facebook over the weekend to try to clear the air. He wrote about the hold up on why he hasn’t signed off on a director, and in the process revealed that the studio is planning to also make Furious 9 and Furious 10, which would close out the trilogy that will start with Furious 8.

“The fans of the Fast & Furious SAGA are the best fans in the world… Since I became the Producer in 2008, you have been with me every step of the way… literally giving me feedback that proved invaluable. Thank you.
“My producing partner Neal would love for me to just sign off on a director, but this is too special a franchise, so these matters have to be very carefully handled. To be clear, NO ONE has been offered to helm Fast 8 yet… let alone seen a script.
“Universal has been so good to me and so trusting of the vision… they have been like family… I promised the studio I would deliver one last Trilogy to end the saga.
“I will announce the directors on my next post…”

So it looks like we can expect to see the franchise finally end after three more films. This has been an entertaining franchise to follow, but it’s time that it finally came to a close. Three more films seems like a lot, but it’s good to know that there’s finally a planned ending in sight. You can't drag this thing out forever.

Chris Evans Explains Captain America and Iron Man's Conflict in CIVIL WAR

This weekend Chris Evans had a short panel at Salt Lake City Comic Con. While he was there he was asked about Captain America: Civil War and offered up some information regarding the conflict between Captain America and Iron Man. The actor talked about the Accords, which we previously reported on. This is what divides the Avengers because Cap and some of the other team members are not on board with the government controlling the team's actions and holding them accountable for them. Evans explains:

"Tony actually thinks we should be signing these accords and reporting to somebody and Cap, who's always been a company man and has always been a soldier, actually doesn't trust anymore. Given what happened in Cap 2, I think he kind of feels the safest hands are his own, and these are understandable concerns, but this is tough, because even reading the script, you think, I think I agree with Tony in a way, and I do agree that to make this work, you do need to surrender to the group. It can't just be one person saying this is right and this is what we're going to do."

It’s interesting to hear that Evans actually agrees with Tony. He goes on to say that Steve Rogers has his reasons for going against Stark, and also talks about how neither one of them is right or wrong in the path they’ve chosen.

"But Cap has his reasons, he certainly has his reasons, and he is a good man and his moral compass is probably the cleanest. This is a tough thing. This is what made it so interesting while we were filming, and it's hopefully what will make the movie great is nobody's right, nobody's wrong. There's no clear bad guy here. We both have a point of view, which is akin to most disagreements in life and politics."

The next chapter in the Marvel saga is no doubt going to be incredibly intriguing. I’ve always loved the dynamic relationship between these characters, and it’s all been building to this moment where they will be completely at odds. I can’t wait to see how this conflict plays out and eventually ends. What side will they both fall on in the MCU? Captain America: Civil War will be released on May 6th, 2016.

Here's an amusing graphic that shows us how anime has changed over the last forty years. It shows up comparisons of how anime looked forty years ago, how it looked five years ago, and finally what we are seeing from anime today. Even though this is true to an extent, there is still some badass anime being made today that doesn't just include fighting teen girls.

GAME OF THRONES Set Photo Confirms One Character Who May Not Be Dead

SPOILERS AHEAD!

At the end of Game of Thrones Season 5, we saw Jon Snow brutally killed by the Night's Watch. A recent photo from the set of Season 6, though, confirms that Snow isn't as dead as we thought. It's been rumored for awhile that Snow would return for the next season, and now it looks like that is actually the case.

Actor Kit Harington and HBO president Michael Lombardo have both insisted throughout the summer that Snow is really dead. There's no doubt that the character did die, but that doesn't mean he can't be brought back to life!

The photo also includes actress Carice van Houten, who plays The Red Woman. This character might have the power to resurrect Snow after he went through that awful and shocking stabbing party.

We'll just have to wait and see how this next chapter in Game of Thrones plays out! What is some of your speculation as to what might happen?

ROBOCOP: MALL SECURITY Parody Short Film

Ever wonder what it would be like if RoboCop were a security guard at the mall? As you might imagine, it would be a complete and utter bloody mess! Sam Macaroni created a funny parody short called "RoboCop: Mall Security" that imagines RoboCop in this exact situation, and it is madness. I think it's safe to assume that people would stop going to the mall if RoboCop were heading up its security. The video came along with the following brief description:

Robocop tries his hand at being a mall cop. It's not good for him. Or the mall.

Ridley Scott Reveals That ALIEN: PARADISE LOST Will Connect to Ripley

Last week we learned that Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel will be called Alien: Paradise Lost. He then explained the reason for the title change, “We're heading back to why and how and when the beast was invented. We'll go back into the back door of the very first Alien that I did thirty years ago."

In a new interview with Empire, the director explains even further how this movie will connect his original film. He even reveals that the movie will also have a connection to Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley as well as Neill Blomkamp’s upcoming Alien 5. Here’s what he had to say:

“In a way it is Prometheus 2, it’s exactly the same story. But it was always in the works to be called that [Alien: Paradise Lost]. Is Prometheus actually taking us off course from where I’m going, which is actually backing into the first Alien… I’ve even got connections with Ripley, but I’m not telling you what.”

That’s definitely an intriguing thought! I’d love to see how this movie actually connects to Ripley. It’ll probably be something obscure but fun for the fans to pick out. Apparently the idea of this film is something he’s been thinking about for years:

“Years ago, I kept mulling over what Alien 2 could be. I was fiddling around with some ideas. I was always fascinated with why this thing [the xenomorph] would be made, by whom, and for what purpose? The planet it was on – and I was looking at the dark side of the moon – would be called Paradise. Paradise is a very ominous word...”

Apparently there was a point where Scott wasn’t interested in using the classic H.R. Giger Xenophorph designs, but he has since changed his mind, and it looks like we’ll be seeing designs inspired by the original Alien film in this upcoming movie. Asked about it, he says:

“I think I have to go again. We will see who made it, and why. That’s what’s interesting.”

Scott is obviously looking to reconnect with his fanbase. Prometheus was met with a lot of mixed reviews. Some fans hated it while other liked it. I thought it was entertaining, but I didn't like how all those scientist characters were too damn stupid to be scientists. I’m excited to learn why the Engineers were responsible for the creation of human life on Earth, though, and also why they would then create the Xenomorph bioweapons to annihilate that life.

Scott went on to confirmed that Blomkamp’s Alien 5 is moving forward, and it’s not being pushed because of Alien: Paradise Lost, which is a rumor that has been flooding the Internet. He said:

“I’m producing it. The design is for it to go out next, after this. This will go out first. It’s more associated with Ripley, it’s a completely different angle, it’s more of a sequel. I’m coming in from the back end.”

Alien: Paradise Lost will start shooting in February with Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender set to reprise their roles of Shaw and the android David. There’s no word on when that movie will be released, but it's looking like it will happen sometime in 2017. Blomkamp’s Alien sequel should be released the following year, and Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn are set to return as Ripley and Hicks.

Steven Soderbergh's HBO Film MOSAIC Will Let Audiences Choose The Ending

Steven Soderbergh is developing a new HBO movie called Mosaic that will be an experimental project that allows the audience to choose the ending. The movie will star Sharon Stone and Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy), and there will be an app tied to the movie which will give viewers the ability to determine how the story ends. The filmmaker released the following statement:

“I believe the good people at HBO are genuinely enthusiastic about Mosaic for two reasons: first, it represents a fresh way of experiencing a story and sharing that experience with others; second, it will require a new Emmy category, and we will be the only eligible nominee.”

I'm really curious to see how this actually works. I love it when filmmakers try to be innovating like this, and it's great that HBO is supporting it. Most studios don't support originality and change. Mosaic is set to star shooting next month in Utah.

5 Common Mistakes SUPER MARIO MAKERS Make In Level Design

$
0
0

Super Mario Maker is the first time in a long time I've actually sat and played my Wii U long enough to make my GamePad battery die. In addition to the awesome level creator I toil endlessly in, I also play a ton of user-created levels. I've played some really good ones, and some really, really bad ones. In hopes of perhaps brightening the quality community-wide, I have written some common complaints I've uttered before hitting the saving grace that is the "skip" button.

**Videos alongside the reasons are not necessarily examples...just something to give you some ideas**

You Don't Have Enough Power Ups

This is by and large the most common mistake I see from level to level. People typically drop a mushroom or fire flower in the first couple steps and then nothing until the end. This gets especially problematic with the users who make their level the maximum length extended further by rooms that are also the maximum length. I find that a simple rule of thumb is if you have a group of three or more enemies in a frame coming at your potential player...drop something for them to stand a chance.

If It Took You Multiple Tries To Complete It...It's Too Hard

For those that don't own the game, to upload a level to the community you must clear the level yourself. The issue with this is there is no cap to how many attempts a user gets before they can clear their level. This leads to impossi-levels that mainly rely on luck rather than difficulty. The most frustrating one I remember playing was a level with no enemies until the very final frame — where the axe to end the level was in the middle of three flying Mega Bowsers and the cap for enemies in a level. The only way I was able to beat the level was by essentially breaking it by smashing the roof and maxing out my power ups so I could phase out the max amount of times to reach it.

It wasn't fun...it was stupid. Don't be that guy.

You're Trying Too Hard To Be Innovative

It's cool to see the ways people can edit levels to turn Super Mario Bros into something entirely different. Making something like you see in the top user-created levels is not without struggle. It requires endless toil, hours of editing, and even more of play testing. So essentially what I'm saying is: you didn't create a work of art in 15 minutes.

And that's fine! Not every level has to be groundbreaking!

In fact, I often star the levels that look indistinguishable from what I'd see in a regular Mario game. My hope is that these levels become the unsung heroes of the franchise. Sure, it's fun to get an occasional puzzle or curveball, but ultimately I bought this game to play Mario. My hope is Nintendo begins to single out levels that in general just show great game design and package them into adventures for those who own the game!

Only You Know How To Beat Your Level

So you made the ultimate level. Once the character begins, they are instantly bombarded by eight Goomba that drop from above, and if they don't hit that hidden block on the far left corner in two seconds, it's game over. You know what I do when I experience levels like that? I'll give you a hint...I don't spend fifteen minutes figuring it out.

A lot of level designers make the fundamental mistake of forgetting that we aren't in their head when we're playing. We don't know what you were thinking when you made the level, and what's obvious to you may not be obvious to us. This isn't to discourage you from throwing a challenge to make us think, but give us a hint!

Your Level Is Far Too Long And Boring

Just because you can make a level that takes a majority of the 500 seconds to complete does not mean you should. I've played through some agonizingly long levels that were long for no other reason than they just were. What's worse is typically these levels are often the ones who break common mistake number one (not enough power ups) and one death and you're back to start. You're taking something fun and making it a chore. Think before you create...would I want to play this?

THE REVENANT: New Photos of Leonardo DiCaprio's Desolate Revenge Drama

I think it's safe to say Star Wars: The Force Awakens is at the top of all of our lists of the films we most want to see before 2015 comes to an end, and even though there are still a ton of potentially great movies that are debuting in the next few months, I think The Revenant is my number two choice. Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's revenge drama stars Leonardo DiCaprio (my favorite working actor) as a trapper who survives a bear attack and swears revenge against the members of his team who left him for dead (including Tom Hardy and Domhnall Gleeson, two of my other favorite working actors). And if that weren't enough, Inarritu and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki shot the movie entirely using natural light, which gives the movie an otherworldly look. Yahoo has some new photos from the movie that showcase its unique visuals, and you can check them out below.

The Revenant arrives on December 25th.

Mark Millar Breaks Down How OLD MAN LOGAN Story Could Work in WOLVERINE 3 Without MCU Characters

$
0
0

We've already written about comic writer Mark Millar once this morning, when the consultant on 20th Century Fox's Marvel Comics characters spoke about the failure of Fantastic Four but still called young director Josh Trank "brilliant." Now IGN has more from that interview, and this time Millar is talking about Old Man Logan, his 2008 comic that Hugh Jackman wants to use as inspiration for Wolverine 3. When asked how a movie version of that comic could work without the use of characters owned by Marvel Studios (including a blind Hawkeye, the Hulk, and many more), here's how Millar responded:

"They're not important to the story. The way I worked that thing is I actually structured it as, I broke it down mechanically - I figured out going from this part of America to that part of America and what he would encounter along the way, and then I added in the adversities later. Basically Wolverine doing The Road movie is the important thing and he has a friend [a blind Hawkeye] with him. But that friend could be Cyclops and he could be blind by the fact that his ruby-quartz visor is broken and he has to keep his eyes closed the whole time and everything, but still insists on driving the car they're crossing America with. There's lots of stuff. Instead of the Hulk, you could have the Blob or something.
“Honestly, the continuity stuff is the most boring side of it. I kind of like it, keeping it in the X-Men universe a little, too, because comic fans are different from the mainstream world. I know this stuff backwards because I've lived my whole life loving this stuff, but most people don't know all the minutia and everything so I think keeping it simplified and keeping it generally X-Men universe is a smarter thing to do.”

Sounds like Millar's not being precious about the details, likely because it's inevitable that the film won't be able to use the same characters that appear in the comic. Though Sony and Marvel Studios came to an agreement about the use of Spider-Man, Fox and Marvel Studios seem to be bitter enemies, so there's no way Marvel would approve the use of its characters, regardless of the fact that this is Jackman's final film. Marvel Studios doesn't give a damn about how 20th Century Fox's Marvel movies perform — in fact, they're probably hoping they fail like Fantastic Four did, because if people stop paying to see Fox's superhero films, it'd eventually be a better investment for Fox to sell the characters back to Marvel Studios.

We'll see how the writers end up changing the story to better fit into the world of the X-Men universe when James Mangold's Wolverine 3 arrives in theaters on March 3rd, 2017.

Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan Talk About Potentially Becoming The New CAPTAIN AMERICA

$

At this past weekend's Salt Lake Comic Con, Marvel actors Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan appeared on panels and discussed the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. There has been a lot of speculation about whether or not one (or maybe both) of them would eventually take over the role of Captain America from current Cap Chris Evans, but as usual, Marvel Studios is playing things pretty close to the vest so we don't have any official confirmation that such a thing will happen. It's mostly been fan discussion, but all of that is informed by the events of the comics, in which both Falcon and Bucky separately take on the role of Captain America. So how do the actors feel about maybe wielding the star-spangled shield one day? According to the Salt Lake Tribune:

Mackie: "I don’t think we need a new Cap. I don’t think Cap needs to change. I think (Sebastian Stan) would be a great Cap, but then we’re left without Bucky. I think I’d be a great Cap, but then we’re left without a Falcon."
Stan: "I'll say this: They sure like to dangle a cheese in front of my nose a lot. They're like 'Oh yeah, that's where you pick up the shield,' and I'm like, 'Yeah, I've heard that one before. There it is again.' But I don't know. If I could say one thing, if anyone can have anything to do with it, to make it happen, is you."

Evans himself was on hand at the event as well, and he reiterated what we've already heard countless times about the main theme of Civil War: that it's easy to agree with both sides of the argument between Cap and Iron Man:

“Tony actually thinks we should be signing these accords and reporting to somebody and Cap, who’s always been a company man and has always been a soldier, actually doesn’t trust anymore. Given what happened in Cap 2, I think he kind of feels the safest hands are his own, and these are understandable concerns, but this is tough, because even reading the script, you think I think I agree with Tony in a way, and I do agree that to make this work, you do need to surrender to the group. It can’t just be one person saying this is right and this is what we’re going to do.’
“But Cap has his reasons, he certainly has his reasons, and he is a good man and his moral compass is probably the cleanest, This is a tough thing. This is what made it so interesting while we were filming, and it’s hopefully what will make the movie great is nobody’s right, nobody’s wrong. There’s no clear bad guy here. We both have a point of view, which is akin to most disagreements in life and politics.”

What do you think, Marvel fans? If something were to happen to Evans' Steve Rogers in the movies, would you rather see Mackie or Stan take over as Captain America?

I can't wait for The Walking Dead to come back. I thought Fear The Walking Dead would be able to tide me over until its return, but good Lord, that show sucks ass! It's filled with completely uninteresting characters who just happen to be some of the stupidest people on the planet. If they were really part of The Walking Dead universe, they'd all be dead by the end of the season. I'm surprised they aren't dead yet.

The Walking Dead Season 6 will be a breath of fresh stinky zombie air, and today we have a new promo spot from AMC for you to watch! The tension is starting to build as Rick, Michonne, Daryl, and the others find themselves at odds with the residents of the Alexandria Safe Zone. On top of that, they still have to deal with the walkers roaming the area.

Season 6 picks up immediately following the events of last spring's finale when Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) executed Alexandrian Pete (Corey Brill) in front of a shocked town hall meeting. But new threats both inside and outside the community will force Rick, Michonne and the other survivors to reevaluate their roles within the group and take drastic actions in order to protect their people and their new home.
