Skimpy Female Armor Explained in Funny Comic - "Now You Know"

skimpy-female-armor-explained-in-funny-comic-now-you-know

Here's another comic by Stjepan Sejic called "Now You Know." It amusingly explains the skimpy kind of female armor that we see in comic books and other kinds of fantasy art. The comic came along with the following note from the artist:

"A long time cooking inside joke between my wife and me of the immense protective power of a women's uterus! In reference to the general design approach in female gear that leaves exposed midriff region. XD"

I love the "It's just science" disclaimer at the end.

Tom Hiddleston Talks About His Heroic Character in KONG: SKULL ISLAND

0
0

It's going to take a while for Tom Hiddleston to become known as anything other than the villainous Loki to the general public (that's what happens when you're in one of the highest-grossing films of all time), but the actor's certainly trying to expand his range. In the past few years, he's played a vampire, an Air Force pilot, and a country music superstar, and soon he'll play a hero in the upcoming Kong: Skull Island.

In a recent interview with Collider, Hiddleston spoke briefly about his character and director Jordan Vogt-Roberts' ideas for the film:

Well, Kong: Skull Island is the next thing on the books. It’s so exciting. I’ve been digging around in some dark material, to be honest. There’s something very heroic about my character in Skull Island. He’s an adventurer, he’s an explorer. I mean, it’s a King Kong film. There we go. [laughs]
The way Jordan Vogt-Roberts has conceived of it, there’s something in there which I find very compelling about King Kong as an emblem of the power of nature in some way, and man’s relationship to it. I think he’s got just brilliant ideas about exploring that. Incredible sequences, a particular context they put King Kong in that you’ve never see him in before, so I’m really excited.
Amazing actors. I’m working with Brie Larson, Corey Hawkins, and Jason Mitchell from Straight Outta Compton are going to be in it.

When J.K. Simmons was attached to the movie, he mentioned that the movie would be set in Detroit in 1971, but Hiddleston wouldn't confirm that, saying he wasn't sure if he was supposed to reveal whether or not it's a period piece. We'll find out for sure when it arrives in theaters on March 20th, 2017.

League of Legends has possessed the GeekTyrant crew. These days they are playing the online game more than they work on the site. I'm one of the few that have not been sucked into this fantasy, and it's a good thing because content on the site would be cut more than in half if I did!

For those of you who have also found yourselves addicted to this game, we have a collection of League of Legends-inspired hoodies for you to check out! They come from Etsy seller The Tasteful Nerd, and they are made to order.

The characters that are represented here include Soraka, Fizz, Jinx, Ahri, Irelia, Lulu, Nami, and Star Guardian Lux. Each hoodie costs 80 bucks.

Watch: Take Down Jack The Ripper With ASSASSIN'S CREED SYNDICATE DLC

0
0

Assassin's Creed Syndicate is set in Victorian London, the same time period in which the notorious serial killer Jack the Ripper stalked the streets, murdering prostitutes and cutting out their organs. But in the same way Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds rewrote history by gunning down Hitler inside a theater, this game will allow players to put a stop to the Ripper's killing streak once and for all. The hunter is becoming the hunted.

The Jack the Ripper DLC can be purchased separately, but it will be available as part of the season pass, which also includes the following:

  • The Last Maharaja mission pack: Discover ten brand-new missions set within London, and join Duleep Singh to reclaim his birthright as the Maharaja. In his quest to reclaim his heritage, he will take on the Templars and test his friendship with the queen.
  • A Long Night exclusive mission: Help Jacob track down an endangered fellow gang member and bring him back to the hideout in a fast-paced, wild, and dangerous ride
  • Streets of London gameplay pack: Gain access to over one hour of extra gameplay via new missions, and obtain additional weapons, gear, and outfits
  • Two top-tier sets of gear and weapons: Give your arsenal a steam-powered twist with the Steampunk Pack, and immerse yourself in the most famous novels of the Victorian era with the Victorian Legends Pack. Both sets include state-of-the art gear and weapons, as well as a new outfit
  • Exclusive XP boost: All Season Pass holders receive an exclusive permanent XP boost

Assassin's Creed Syndicate will be available for purchase on October 23rd.

PAN Featurette Showcases Joe Wright's Dazzling Visuals

Director Joe Wright (Atonement, Hanna) is known for his striking visuals, and it looks like his latest film, Pan, provides the best canvas yet for showing off his talent for crafting memorable images on screen. When it comes to Peter Pan stories, I'll always be partial to Steven Spielberg's critically derided and much-hated Hook, and this reimagining of the classic tale looks like it could have a similar impact on a younger generation.

In a new featurette (which I think showcases some footage not yet seen in the trailers), Wright and stars Hugh Jackman, Garrett Hedlund, and Levi Miller talk about the film's 3D sequences and how they will immerse viewers further in the story. Take a look below, and prepare for Pan's arrival on October 9th:

Set Pics From ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY Reveal a Crashed Ship, Stormtroopers, and More

Gareth Edwards' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is shaping up to be the perfect compromise between what I want as a fan (brand new stories in the Star Wars universe untethered to previous films) and what Disney likely wants as a studio (some sort of marketable connection to the films that have come before in order to draw more people in). Maybe one day we'll get to the point when we're seeing one-off movies that are completely original and set on the other side of the galaxy from Luke, Han, Leia, and the events of the three trilogies. But in the meantime, the idea of a war movie centering on a band of rebel soldiers stealing the plans for the Death Star without the help of any Jedi sounds like a great step in the right direction.

Rogue One has been filming for a little while now, and now some new set photos have made their way online (via TMZ) that reveal a crashed ship, what looks like dead Stormtroopers, and some members of the cast standing out in front of the shield generator we saw on Endor in Return of the Jedi. Take a look in the imgur gallery below:

A SKYRIM Dragon Causes Panic in The Streets of GRAND THEFT AUTO V

The longer Grand Theft Auto V is out, the more parodies, TV show opening credit recreations, and mashups there will be...and that's totally fine with me. Sure, some are more creative than others, and maybe one day I'll get tired of seeing characters from other properties wandering around Los Santos causing excessive destruction, but today is not that day.

Kotaku points us to a quick video depicting a dragon from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim causing absolute panic in the streets, and a Dragonborn ready to face off against it.

MAN OF STEEL 2 - Intriguing Plot, Character, and Villain Details

0
0

Earlier today, we posted some information regarding Man of Steel 2, the main villain involved, and director George Miller's possible involvement with it. You can read all about that here. We now have some additional information to share with you about what Warner Bros. and the DC Extended Universe creative committee are planning on doing with the sequel.

Heroic Hollywood offers some rumored intel on the plot, villain, and other characters that will make an appearance. The following is the basic plotline that Zack Snyder and David Goyer apparently pitched to Warner Bros. after Man of Steel was completed. You might consider this a SPOILER, but it's so incredibly early in the development process that anything can change between now and when the movie is actually released.

As the previous report said, Brainiac might be the main villain of the movie, and according to the latest info he will be looking for the genetic codex of the entire Kryptonian race. This is the same thing that General Zod wanted to get his hands on in the first Man of Steel movie. The site goes on to say that "he is not trying to retrieve the codex from Superman. You see folks there was another Kryptonian survivor."

Who is that other Kryptonian survivor? Well, that would be none other than Supergirl. Apparently she's always been a part of the plan. According to the report, David Goyer's prequel comic said that "Kara Zor-El was the most promising daughter of the House of El." That prequel told Kara's story "as she nears completion of her training. She intended to become a member of Krypton’s ‘Explorers Guild'; citizens tasked with searching the cosmos for suitable planets, and triggering terraforming projects to make them inhabitable to Kryptonians."

They go on to say that the sequel won't just introduce Supergirl, but it will actually focus on her just as much as it will focus on Superman. This is apparently one of the main aspects of the project that got Miller's attention in the first place, and it's the main reason why he's looking at directing it. The guy is attracted to working with strong woman protagonists.

All of this leads to something, and that is to the creation of Bizarro! That's right folks. To help obtain the codex from Kara, Brainiac creates Bizarro to hunt her down.

This is all unconfirmed, but it's a lot of information here to discuss with your fellow tyrants. As I've said before, I'd be excited as hell to see Miller come on board to direct the movie. I think he could do some great things playing around in this universe. What do you think about the potential plot details that are presented here?

Simon Kinberg Confirms Plan For DEADPOOL, GAMBIT, and X-MEN Crossover

0
0

After the disastrous box office performance of Fantastic Four, it's not too surprising that writer/producer Simon Kinberg said that film's characters live in a parallel universe to the much more successful X-Men. But just because a crossover between those two properties seems unlikely at this point doesn't mean Kinberg has entirely given up on the idea of crossovers.

In an interview with MTV, he confirmed plans for there to be "interplay" between characters like Deadpool, Gambit, and the X-Men moving forward in the new continuity they created in X-Men: Days of Future Past:

“The idea is that we’ve sort of reset the timeline after ’Days of Future Past’ in some ways, and if not erased, certainly allowed for change from ’X1,’ ’2,’ ’3,’ everything from ’Days of Future Past’ forward, 1973, everything we set now becomes canon,” he said. “So the ’Gambit’ movie, the ’Deadpool’ movie, will exist in a world that acknowledges whatever happened in ’Days of Future Past’ and moving forward. Doesn’t mean they’ll always interact with those characters, obviously, it’s not like every movie has all the characters, but they all have to exist within the same rules.”
“There will be interplay between different characters in different movies.”

So how does he keep it all straight?

“I don’t have it up on a wall, but I have it on my computer, and I have it sort of tattooed on my brain now too,” Kinberg said. “Nothing external, so that if I get knocked over the head, no one can read it. It’s literally behind my eyelids. But yeah, we have a clear sense of the directions we want to take them in and in my my mind at least, how we could start to cross-pollinate sort of with those characters that have their standalone movies.”

Notice how he doesn't mention the Fantastic Four characters at all? I don't think that's an accident. I'm convinced that the film underperformed so badly that Kinberg and the other writers associated with the X-Men franchise aren't willing to risk incorporating them into a crossover just yet. That could still end up happening down the line, though, because despite all of that, he's somehow still showing interest in a Fantastic Four sequel. In the meantime, though, fans can get excited about the possibilities of seeing Deadpool, Gambit, and the X-Men eventually share the screen.

Video Essay: VANCOUVER NEVER PLAYS ITSELF Gives The City The Credit It Deserves

Vancouver is the third most popular city for filming in North America, and for many reasons (tax breaks being chief among them), movies and TV shows often use the Canadian city as a stand-in for places like New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

Tony Zhou of Every Frame a Painting grew up in the city and doesn't think it's gotten a fair shake on the big screen with an identity of its own since it's constantly being used to trick audiences into thinking we're somewhere else. So he created this video. I feel like people from Vancouver are especially going to love this, but even if you've never been there, it's interesting stuff for movie lovers everywhere:

Liam Neeson Takes the Lead Role in the Action-Comedy THE REVENGER

0
0

All of Liam Neeson's action films have finally hit their peak, and now it seems like he might be ready to start spoofing them. He was just cast in a new action/comedy called The Revenger. The movie is being directed by Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer, and it's set up to be developed at Universal Pictures.

There are absolutely no details on the plot, but the script was written by Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garan. These are the two guys who brought us films such as Night At The Museum, Hellbaby, Herby Fully Loaded, Balls of Fury, The Pacifier, and Comedy Central’s Reno 911. The only movie worth watching in that resume is Hellbaby. I don't care for any of those other films.

I guess we can expect The Revenger to be a completely silly take on a man who is out for revenge. I do like the fact that Neeson is doing comedy again. He's had comedic roles in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, The LEGO Movie, and A Million Ways to Die in the West. The best comedy he delivers is when he plays it serious.

I'm curious to see how this movie comes out.

Fan Art for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS - "There Has Been an Awakening"

Here's a stunningly cool Star Wars: The Force Awakens illustration created by artist Vincent Rhafael. I've seen a lot of fan art for this film over the last year, but this is one of my favorites. It's called "There Has Been an Awakening," and I love all of the elements that it features from the upcoming saga. It brings it all together in such a slick and stylish way.

Elizabeth Banks in Negotiations to Direct CHARLIE’S ANGELS

Sony Pictures is looking to reboot the Charlie’s Angels franchise, and they are in negotiations with Elizabeth Banks to direct it. She most recently directed Pitch Perfect 2, which turned out to be a big hit, and now it looks like she’s ready to try something a little more action-packed. She is already set to produce the film, so if she wants the directing gig, it is hers.

The previous Charlie’s Angels movies were directed by Joseph McGinty Nichol, a.k.a. McG. I just hate calling him McG. I won’t give him that satisfaction, so I think I’ll call him by his full name from now on. Anyway, those first two films made in the early 2000s were terrible. I’m definitely a lot happier that Banks could be coming on to direct it. She’ll be able to at least give the movie some heart and soul.

The story follows the Angels — three detectives who work for a mysterious benefactor named Charlie, and they also have a sidekick character named Bosley. The original Angels were played by Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, and Jaclyn Smith, and the Angels in the previous movies were played by Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Liu.

There’s no word on who will play the Angels in Banks’ version, but it’s not hard imagining her casting three of her Pitch Perfect actresses to play them. Anyone think Anna Kendrick would make a good Angel? Whatever Banks does with the franchise, she seems like the kind of filmmaker that will do these character justice and give them the film that they deserve.

Banks’ next project is a film called Red Queen for Universal Pictures, which is based on the young adult fantasy book series. There’s also a chance that she could direct Pitch Perfect 3.

New Trailer for THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY - PART 2 - "For Prim"

new-trailer-for-the-hunger-games-mockingjay-part-2-for-prim

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 is the final film in Lionsgate's beloved franchise. It's been quite a ride, and for the most part, I've enjoyed the films up to this point. This last chapter in the story looks like it could be the best, though. We've got a new trailer for it for you to watch today. It's called "For Prim," and it focuses on the relationship between Katniss and Prim throughout the entire saga. For those of you familiar with the book series, then you will know what the significance of this trailer is. The studio also released a new poster for the movie that I included above.

With the nation of Panem in a full scale war, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) confronts President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in the final showdown. Teamed with a group of her closest friends – including Gale (Hemsworth), Finnick (Sam Claflin), and Peeta (Hutcherson) – Katniss goes off on a mission with the unit from District 13 as they risk their lives to stage an assassination attempt on President Snow who has become increasingly obsessed with destroying her. The mortal traps, enemies, and moral choices that await Katniss will challenge her more than any arena she faced in The Hunger Games.

The movie was directed by Francis Lawrence and it stars Jennifer Lawrence, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Willow Shields, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone with Stanley TucciDonald Sutherland, Julianne Moore, Mahershala Ali, Natalie Dormer, Wes Chatham, Elden Henson, and Evan Ross.

The film will be released in theaters on November 20th, 2015.

So Mark Hamill Almost Died on the Set of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS?!

so-mark-hamill-almost-died-on-the-set-of-star-wars-the-force-awakens

Whle shooting Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Harrison Ford broke his leg, J.J. Abrams broke his back, and now we have word that Mark Hamill apparently almost fell off a mountain and died during production last year!

While shooting in Ireland, he slipped on a "treacherous mountainside." It happened while he was climbing the steps of a place called Skellig Michael, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site off the coast of County Kerry in Ireland. I included a photo of it below.

The Times (via Daily Mail) reports that he would “have been a 'goner’” had he not been caught and saved by a guide from the Irish Office of Public Works. Good grief, what a terrible thing it would have been had that guide not been their to rescue Hamill. Thankfully the guy had quick reflexes and the strength to keep him from falling. Talk about a close call.

Skellig Michael is 180m-high and "boasts incredible views of an ancient monastery built at its summit and the Atlantic Ocean, however there is a dangerous climb up 600 old and slippery steps to reach it."

Apparently several people have slipped on the mountain and fallen to their deaths in recent years. It’s sad that other people have died there, but thankfully it did’t claim the life of Hamill.

2 New Trailers for Steven Spielberg's Cold War Thriller BRIDGE OF SPIES

2-new-trailers-for-steven-spielbergs-cold-war-thriller-bridge-of-spies

We've only got a few more weeks before a new Steven Spielberg movie hit's theaters! As a long time fan of the director, I couldn't be more excited. He has once again teamed up with Tom Hanks, and together they've made an incredible-looking cold war spy thriller called Bridge of Spies.

The movie is based on a true story that is set against the backdrop of a series of historic events. It follows James Donovan, "a Brooklyn lawyer who finds himself thrust into the center of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on the near-impossible task to negotiate the release of a captured American U-2 pilot."

In an interview with EW, Spielberg talks about the man that Hanks potrays in the movie:

“I think the character that Tom Hanks plays, James B. Donovan, he was what you would call the Standing Man. The stand-up kind of guy who stands up for what he believes in to be a universal truth, which is basically justice for all – regardless of what side of the Iron Curtain you are on. He was only interested in the letter of the law.”

The script for the film was written by Matt Charman, Ethan Coen, and Joel Coen and they capture "the essence of a man who risked everything and vividly brings his personal journey to life." Bridge of Spies will be released on October 16th.

EVERYTHING IS A REMIX Video Shows Movie Elements Reused Over the Years

everything-is-a-remix-video-shows-movie-elements-reused-over-the-years

A few years ago we posted an "Everything is a Remix" video for The Matrix, which shows how some of its elements were borrowed from other movies. There were a series of videos like this created by Kirby Ferguson, and today we bring you Everything is a Remix Remastered, his original four part series combined in a single video.

It features more examples of how several filmmakers have been inspired by the films of the past and used elements from them to tell their own stories. It also goes beyond movies, and shows examples of music, technology, and more. It's really a fascinating video essay to watch, so I strongly suggest to check it out when you get a chance. You might just learn something new.

"In the five years since the series launched, Everything is a Remix has been viewed over two million times and produced a popular TED Talk. Amazingly, Remix continues to change the way people think about creativity, originality, and copyright.
"To celebrate the five year anniversary, I’ve polished up the original four parts and merged them into a single video. For the first time now, the whole series is available as a single video with proper transitions all the way through, unified styling, and remixed and remastered audio. Part One has been entirely rebuilt in HD."

Enjoy!

One Major Cast Member Confirmed for STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII

0
0

I don't know if you would consider this news a SPOILER or not, but just to be safe, I didn't put the name of the actor returning to reprise his role in the title of the post. If you don't want to know who this actor is, then stop reading now.

Star Wars: Episode VIII was supposed to start shooting earlier this week, but the first day of shooting was delayed due to bad weather. The news comes from the Irish Examiner who says that several cast and crew members were in County Kerry to film some scenes off the coast on the Skellig Michael, which also served as a location on Star Wars: The Force Awakens

One of those cast members includes Mark Hamill, who will be back to reprise his role of Luke Skywalker in the sequel. I already figured this new trilogy would include Hamill all the way through it, but there might be some fans out there who didn't realize this was the case.

What's crazy is that Skellig Michael is the place where Hamill almost reportedly died. There's a monastic settlement on the mountain that dates back to between the sixth and twelfth centuries that they are shooting in. This is most likely the place where Luke has been hiding away.

Rian Johnson (Looper) is directing the movie, which is set to be released on May 26th, 2017. There's no other information on who else is set to return, but I imagine most of the cast from The Force Awakens will be back for the sequel.
