Drew Goddard Explains Why He Isn't Directing Marvel and Sony's New SPIDER-MAN Film

When news broke that Sony had abandoned plans to continue its live-action Spider-Man universe, Drew Goddard's planned Sinister Six movie was a part of the collateral damage. For many film fans, Goddard — who's been involved with majorly geeky properties like Buffy, Angel, Alias, LOST, Cloverfield, World War Z, and Daredevil — felt like the obvious choice to take over Sony's new Spider-Man solo film with Marvel Studios. But that job ended up going to Cop Car director Jon Watts, and now Goddard, who is in Toronto promoting The Martian, has explained to Cinema Blend why he didn't take the gig:

I mean, I think that’s more a question for them, but here’s the good news. I’ve worked with Marvel a lot. The way that Marvel sort of works is they say, ‘Hey, do you have an idea for… Here’s the movies we’re thinking about making…’ They sort of tell the world what they’re thinking of making, and they sort of put out there, if you have an idea for any of these, come talk to us.

And I think, with Spider-Man, I didn’t really have an idea. Part of that might have just been because I had just written one. I spent a year working on Sinister Six, and I think I was like in a head space where I just didn’t… you know, it’s very hard to say, ‘Ok, now write a new movie.’ So, it never got that far. We never, it never got taken that far. They know how much respect I have for them. They’ve been very nice to me over the years, and I know sooner or later, we’re going to find the right project. It’s all about timing.

I never really thought about the situation from that angle before. Sure, Goddard spent a long time developing a story in the Spider-Man universe, but it's a tall order to ask someone to scrap something they've been working on and come up with something completely fresh and new instead. It sounds like he still has an amicable relationship with Marvel, and we should probably expect for him to work on another Marvel property one day down the line. I look forward to seeing what Watts does with his Spider-Man movie, which hits theaters on July 28th, 2017.

Top 5 Alternate Movie Endings You May Have Never Seen

top-5-alternate-movie-endings-that-you-may-have-never-seen

One of the biggest elements that makes or breaks a movie is the ending. There are a lot of films out there that could have been great movies if they actually had a decent ending. A bad ending can ruin a whole movie for me. There are a lot of instances during film productions where multiple endings are shot and tested with audiences before they release the movie in theaters.

ScreenRant has released a video that features what they feel are the Top 5 most amazing alternate ending from films that were never used. Those movies include Terminator 2: Judgment Day, I Am Legend, 28 Days Later, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and First Blood

Writing a movie is a tough task, and arguably the hardest part of that is coming up with a memorable ending to your story. When everything in the film has been leading up to this one final moment, you need to deliver the goods or it’s going to derail the project before it even hits theatres. Sometimes the script will go through a few revisions, leaving some tantalizing conclusions that never see the light of day. Here are Screen Rant’s 5 Amazing Movie Endings That You’ve Never Seen.

Are there any other alternate endings that you remember seeing that you think should be on the list? I'm kind of surprised that they left Army of Darkness off the list, but I included that for you as well in case you haven't seen it yet.

MAN OF STEEL 2 Update - Possible Villain and George Miller's Directing Options

Thanks to Heroic Hollywood we have some updates regarding Man of Steel 2. One of the more recent things we heard about the film was that it was permanently on hold, which I thought was completely absurd, and I was right. The latest report says that claim is "just ridiculous" because Superman is a "key player and part of the DCEU's long-term strategy." They also talk about director George Miller's involvement with the film and also reveal who the main villain might be.

A few weeks ago, it was rumored that Miller might be directing the sequel, which seemed to get fans really excited. Then director Zack Snyder was asked about the rumor, and he gave the following response to News.com.au:

“George doing one of the DC movies? Oh my God, absolutely. George can do anything he wants, in my opinion. We haven’t talked about it, and to be frank I just didn’t know what he was thinking of doing next. But yeah, if I was to think he had any interest in them of course I’m happy to talk to him.”

Man of Steel 2 is an option for Miller to direct, but he hasn't decided what exactly what his next film is going to be. The report says that if he wants the gig, though, it's his. Warner Bros. also offered him the chance to direct Justice League Dark now that Guillermo del Toro is no longer attached.

Whoa! So he has his choice between Justice League Dark and Man of Steel 2?! That's quite a choice! Apparently the people at the studio are thinking that Justice League Dark is more suited for Miller. I personally would love to see him take on Superman.

The report goes on to say that the earliest we'll see a Man of Steel movie would be in 2019 or 2020, sometime after the two Justice League movies are released. That will probably be around the same time that Ben Affleck's solo Batman movie will be released as well.

As for who Superman will take on in the sequel, sources say that he will fight against Brainiac and that it will be the villain's cinematic debut. This was something that Snyder already hinted at in an interview with EW when he said:

“I remember talking about, ‘What’s the next villain? We can’t do another alien invasion.’ Brainiac was definitely down the road.”

Brainiac is a great villain, and it makes complete sense that Superman would eventually have to face him in the DCEU. We've got a long way to go before we see the Man of Steel sequel on the big screen, but if Miller ends up taking it on, it would be a movie not to miss!

What movie would you rather see Miller direct? Justice League Dark or Man of Steel 2?

Phenomenal New Trailer for CREED

This new chapter in the Rocky saga looks like is has the makings of an incredible film. We’ve got a new trailer for you to watch today for director Ryan Coogler’s (Fruitvale Station) Creed, which stars Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone, both of whom look like they give powerful performances.

Who would have thought that the Rocky franchise would come this far? This could reinvigorate the franchise and start it up again with a whole new boxing lead. I’m not sure if that’s what they planned went they started this project, but if the film is as good as it looks, then it's certainly a possibility.

Adonis Johnson (Jordan) never knew his famous father, world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born. Still, there’s no denying that boxing is in his blood, so Adonis heads to Philadelphia, the site of Apollo Creed’s legendary match with a tough upstart named Rocky Balboa.
Once in the City of Brotherly Love, Adonis tracks Rocky (Stallone) down and asks him to be his trainer. Despite his insistence that he is out of the fight game for good, Rocky sees in Adonis the strength and determination he had known in Apollo—the fierce rival who became his closest friend. Agreeing to take him on, Rocky trains the young fighter, even as the former champ is battling an opponent more deadly than any he faced in the ring.
With Rocky in his corner, it isn’t long before Adonis gets his own shot at the title…but can he develop not only the drive but also the heart of a true fighter, in time to get into the ring?

The movie also stars Tessa Thompson (Selma, Dear White People) as Bianca, a local singer-songwriter who becomes involved with Adonis; Phylicia Rashad (Lifetime’s Steel Magnolias) as Mary Anne Creed, Apollo’s widow; and English pro boxer and former three-time ABA Heavyweight Champion Anthony Bellew as boxing champ “Pretty” Ricky Conlan.

Creed hits theaters on November 25th.

There's no better way to flip through channels trying to find something good on TV than with this Doctor Who inspired Sonic Screwdriver programmable TV remote. The remote is based on the design of the Twelfth Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver. Besides the fact that it looks cool, it's also gesture-based, so you can control your entertainment system with movement. The remote is available at ThinkGeek, and they offer the following specs for the item:

  • Remote control protocols: Learning feature supports all major consumer infrared (IR) protocols, including RC-5, RC-6, XMP, RECS-80, NEC, SIRC, and NRC17 with IR carrier frequency range from 33 to 50 kHz.
  • Electromagnetic emission: Custom manufactured, three-chip 5mm LED; one IR (943 nm) indium gallium nitride and two green (520 nm)gallium arsenide chips, encapsulated in a transparent epoxy lens.
  • Motion sensing: 2 mm x 2 mm x 0.9 mm, three-axis MEMS accelerometer fabricated from single-crystal silicon by a deep reactive-ion (DRIE) process and protected from the environment by a hermetically-sealed silicon cap at the wafer level.
All so you can turn the TV on without getting up.

This advanced, gesture-based, infrared remote can learn the control codes from almost any regular remote control. Using simple and intuitive movements you will be able to use the Sonic Screwdriver to control your devices just like The Doctor. Rotate clockwise or counterclockwise to adjust the volume on your stereo; flick the Sonic Screwdriver up and down to change TV channels or navigate the program guide; and even open your DVD player (if you still have one) by pulling back on the Sonic Screwdriver.

With 13 gestures and 3 memory banks, you can store up to 39 remote control codes on the Sonic Screwdriver: plenty to control all of your Earth-based entertainment equipment. In Control Mode, each gesture triggers a classic Sonic Screwdriver sound effect and the tip illuminates with a bright green light. (There's also a Quiet Mode if you're stealthy.) And because The Doctor doesn't let just anyone use his stuff, there's a Lock Code that allows you to ensure that it's yours... ALL YOURS.

If you want to purchase one, click here. It'll cost you $119.99.

Brad Bird Discusses THE INCREDIBLES 2 Script and Focus

$

Since Disney’s Tomorrowland was released, Brad Bird has been hard at work developing a sequel to Pixar’s The Incredibles. Collider recently caught up with the director and asked him about the project, and he gave an update on how it's going. Talking about the script for the film he said:

"I have the story arc. I’m probably three-quarters through the script, first pass through the script, but we’re already boarding parts of it. I’ve got a lot of people that worked on the first one working on it, so we’re all having a good time with it."

It good to hear that they are having fun making the movie! It means that they're probably all excited about it, and about the story they want to tell this time around. Bird went on to talk about the release date of the film:

"In terms of the release date, we were originally—Incredibles was supposed to happen after Cars, and our wheels just happened to click a little earlier so they moved us up. Release dates are a little fluid when you’re making films so far in advance. Some films are tougher to come together and tough nuts to crack, and other ones comes together a little more quickly, and so I’m just going to work as fast as I can work well with a relatively small team because I like small teams better until you’ve got everything firmly figured out."

He then discussed the superhero movie genre in general, and how it's currently crowding the movie market. It sure wasn’t like that when The Incredibles was released back in 2004. He also talked about the focus of the film:

"What’s changed is there were only two other superhero franchises at the time Incredibles came out. One of them was X-Men and the other was Spider-Man, and now there are 400 billion of them and there’s a new superhero movie every two weeks. What you don’t want to do is trot over the same turf in the same way everyone else is. So we’re trying to keep it focused in the area that our film was, which was a little bit more about characters and relationships and stuff like that, and see where that takes us. But we’re having a good time."

You know what? As long as the stories for these films are good, and there are solid filmmakers developing them, the audience will always be there. The Incredibles is my favorite Pixar movie, so even if it opened up against a Marvel and DC movie, I’d still rush out to see it, as would a ton of other fans!

I’m excited to see where Bird takes these characters in the upcoming sequel.

Watch Disney Animator Glen Keane Draw The Beast and Ariel in Virtual Reality

I've got a beautiful short film for you to watch today called "Glen Keane - Step in the Page." Keane is a veteran Disney animator who has worked on several different films over the course of forty years. In the short, he talks about the art of animation and how the tools used to create these films have changed over the years. You get to see Keane at work drawing out characters on paper. Then you get to see him draw characters like The Beast from Beauty and the Beast and Ariel from The Little Mermaid in virtual reality. He also talks about what it's like to step into this world and create art. It's pretty damn awesome and inspiring.

The video comes from Future Of StoryTelling, and here's the description that came along with the video:

Over nearly four decades at Disney, Glen Keane animated some the most compelling characters of our time: Ariel from The Little Mermaid, the titular beast in Beauty and the Beast, and Disney’s Tarzan, to name just a few. The son of cartoonist Bil Keane (The Family Circus), Glen learned early on the importance of holding onto your childhood creativity—and how art can powerfully convey emotion. Keane has spent his career embracing new tools, from digital environments to 3D animation to today’s virtual reality, which finally enables him to step into his drawings and wander freely through his imagination. At FoST, he'll explore how to tap into your own creativity, connecting to emotion and character more directly than ever before.

Chloë Moretz Battles Aliens in the Trailer for THE 5TH WAVE

We've got a new trailer for the post-apocalyptic sci-fi film The 5th Wave for you to watch today. The movie is based on the book series by Rick Yancey. It tells the story of a teenage girl named Cassie (Chloë Moretz) who is forced to survive after the world has been decimated by four waves of a deadly extra-terrestrial attacks. She is also on a dangerous journey to find and save her younger brother. "As she prepares for the inevitable and lethal 5th wave, Cassie teams up with a young man who may become her final hope – if she can only trust him."

When the first trailer was released, I thought that this movie had potential. Now that I've seen a little bit more of it... maybe not. The movie has an impressive supporting cast that includes Liev Schreiber, Maika Monroe, Nick Robinson, Maggie Siff, Maria Bello, and Ron Livingston. Regardless of the great cast, this looks like it's going to be a lackluster film trying to keep up with movie franchises like The Hunger Games, Divergent, and The Maze Runner. It just doesn't look like it has what it takes to do that, though.

The 5th Wave was directed by English filmmaker J Blakeson (The Disappearance of Alice Creed) from a script written by Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich). It will be unleashed in theaters on January 15th, 2016.

First Clip from CRIMSON PEAK Offers a Chillingly Proper Welcome

first-clip-for-crimson-peak-offers-a-chillingly-proper-welcome

As we get closer to the release of Guillermo del Toro’s gothic haunted house horror thriller Crimson Peak, Legendary Pictures has released a clip for you to check out. The clip is called “A Proper Welcome,” but I don’t know if "proper" would be the word that I would use. It features Jessica Chastain’s character welcoming her brother’s (Tom Hiddleston) new bride (Mia Wasikowska) into the old creepy mansion in which they reside. Chastain obviously isn’t very happy about the arrangement.

Everything that I’ve seen from this movie has been eerily awesome, and I can’t wait to see what exactly is in store for us. Del Toro always sets out to scare the shot out of audiences with his films, and I think he’s going to effectively pull it off in this one. I especially love the beautiful dark gothic tone and vibe of the story.

When her heart is stolen by a seductive stranger, a young woman is swept away to a house atop a mountain of blood-red clay: a place filled with secrets that will haunt her forever. Between desire and darkness, between mystery and madness, lies the truth behind Crimson Peak.

Crimson Peak opens in theaters on October 16th. Bring it on, Del Toro!

Dear Electronic Arts: Give Us A Classic SIMS Console Release!

Dear The Sims Studios,

I didn't mean to be rude in my title, but I know you are but a subsidiary who acts under a much larger gaming giant.

Therefore...

Dear Electronic Arts,

The Sims has undergone a lot of changes over the years. Admittedly, I haven't followed the franchise much since 3, and I only played that a bit. My computer situation has never been ideal when put up against the always cutting edge Sims games of the time. Sims 3 was simply too much for my laptop to handle, and my family had to replace our computer after a series of expansion installs for the original Sims caused a 60 second hang up between commands.

For this reason, I played a majority of your titles on my Nintendo Gamecube and PS2 and ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. Sure the Gamecube Sims didn't allow for you to build a second story home, and The Urbz forced you to interact with the Black Eyed Peas...but dammit, console gaming was the way to go when it came to The Sims in my book.

It's been a long time since those days...the series has gone through some face lifts that many fans aren't really into. What once was a living dollhouse where you could execute your visitors via fireplace is now, as Metro said it best, GTA without guns.

I quickly realized in my research on Sims 4 that things had grown far too complex for me to want to dive in...but I'll tell you what I would love.

I want the original Sims with all expansions playable on my Xbox One! What was once a lengthy install on the PC in 2002 surely would be no challenge for the next gen console. I believe this move wouldn't just appease me, but all the fans clamoring for a return to the classical feel! Hell, as long as you don't make me pay DLC for the expansions and package it all in, I'll pay new price for the re-release! If it's DLC though, throw it up for like 20 dollars if you would.

No MySims...no expanded world...just bare bones. C'mon, I'm jonesin' here!

Darren Aronofsky Looking to Direct Channing Tatum in Evel Knievel Film

Darren Aronofsky is on the hunt for his next film project, and it looks like it could end up being the Evel Knievel biopic that Channing Tatum has been attached to for about three years. The news comes from Deadline, who says that the director is in early negotiations.

The Evel Knievel movie is based on a book called Life of Evel, which was written by Stuart Barker. Knievel was an American daredevil and entertainer. The guy was a badass who attempted over 75 ramp-to-ramp motorcycle jumps between 1965 and 1980. Over the course of his career he broke 433 bones, which earned him an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records as the survivor of "most bones broken in a lifetime." Knievel died of pulmonary disease in Clearwater, Florida in 2007. He was 69 years old, and was one of the greatest American icons of the 1970s., In 1999 he was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame.

Aronofsky is the director behind films such as Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, The Wrestler, and Black Swan. The last movie he made was Noah. He's an incredible filmmaker, and I think this would be a perfect project for him to take on. I'd really like to see him make this movie, so hopefully everything works out.

Scarlett Johansson Hypnotizes in First Full Trailer For Jon Favreau's THE JUNGLE BOOK

I didn't personally attend Disney's D23 Expo earlier this year, but I heard nothing but good things about the footage they showed from Jon Favreau's upcoming adaptation of The Jungle Book. Now the film's first full trailer has been unveiled, and I can see where the hype is coming from. Newcomer Neel Sethi is playing Mowgli, and he'll be the only actor to actually appear on screen in the film; the rest of the cast — including Ben Kingsley, Bill Murray, Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong'o, Christopher Walken, and more — will provide the voices for animals like Bagheera, Baloo, and Shere Khan.

Scarlett Johansson plays Kaa the snake, and her narration hypnotizes Mowgli throughout this trailer as we see flashes of animal-on-animal fight scenes and the young man-cub making daring escapes from danger. Take a look below:

Directed by Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johansson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire.
The all-star cast also includes Lupita Nyong'o as the voice of the fiercely protective mother wolf Raksha, and Giancarlo Esposito as the voice of wolf pack’s alpha male Akela. “The Jungle Book” seamlessly blends live-action with photorealistic CGI animals and environments, using up-to-the-minute technology and storytelling techniques to immerse audiences in an enchanting and lush world. The wild adventure swings into theaters in 3D on April 15, 2016.

The Jungle Book was originally supposed to open next month, but was recently moved to an April 15th, 2016 release date.

The latest video from The Unusual Suspect gives Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron a Power Rangers: Zeo-style intro sequence. I also included the original opening for Power Rangers: Zeo so you can compare the two.

Woody Harrelson is Playing The Villain in New PLANET OF THE APES Film

$

Following his supporting role in The Hunger Games movies, Woody Harrelson is jumping into another big franchise: THR reports that the True Detective star will play the villain in the upcoming Planet of the Apes film. (The outlet says the title will be War For the Planet of the Apes, but we'd previously heard it'd be called War of the Planet of the Apes, so I'm not sure if that's a typo on THR's part or if the title has been changed.)

Harrelson will play a human character called the Colonel, but plot details are being kept under wraps at this point so not much else is known about the film other than the obvious: it will continue the story of Andy Serkis' ape character, Caesar, who has risen to become the leader of the apes following the events of the two previous films. Gabriel Chavarria will play another new human character, and director Matt Reeves and screenwriter Mark Bomback are back in their respective roles after Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

I would not have been surprised to learn that Harrelson was using motion capture to play an ape, but apparently even after the events of the last film, the story is still at a point when humans are a force to be reckoned with for Caesar's family. These new Planet of the Apes films have been surprisingly great (Dawn was especially fantastic), so hopefully Reeves continues the trend with the new one when it arrives in theaters on July 14th, 2017.

Josh Brolin Shares His Feelings on Losing Batman Role to Ben Affleck

Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. kept the casting process for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice very quiet. The only two names that were serious contenders for the role (that we knew about) were Ben Affleck and Josh Brolin, and we all know who won the role. I think Affleck will be good, but I would have freakin' loved to see Brolin as Batman! I think the fans would have been more excited about it as well. That's OK, though, because Brolin is now Thanos, and all is right in the world.

During an interview with MTV, Brolin confirmed that he was up for the role a couple of years ago and shared his feelings on missing out on the opportunity to play the Caped Crusader. There's no jealous or bad blood between him and Affleck, but he does say fans can be pissed off about the casting all you want:

“I don’t have that thing, I wish I did. It would just be more interesting and more competitive, damn him. As much as you guys want to be pissed off, be pissed off, it’s all good. Start a f–king riot. I’m really curious [to see] what he does. Beyond curious.”

Again, I think Brolin would have been the more hardcore and badass choice, but I think Affleck will be fine in the role. It's looking like Batman v Superman is going to be an awesome film and deliver something fans are going to go batshit crazy over. At least that's what we're all hoping for!

Idris Elba is an Awesome James Bond in This Great SPECTRE Mashup Trailer

For years, there's been a vocal fan movement to get Idris Elba cast as the next James Bond. Many thinkpieces were written not long ago when the writer of the 007 novels called Elba "too street" to play the character, but frankly it doesn't seem like Elba himself is even really that interested in the role these days. When Sony and MGM eventually announce Daniel Craig's successor as Bond, I bet there'll be no one happier than Elba because that means he won't have to deal with constant questions about it anymore.

But what if Sony and MGM had actually cast Elba in the role before the upcoming movie was announced? What might an Elba-led Spectre look like? Vulture decided to find out by creating this cool mashup trailer that combines footage from Spectre with Elba's work in the BBC's Luther, Takers, The Gunman, and more, finally giving fans a taste of what they've been wanting for years. And I have to say...it's pretty freakin' great.

Teaser Trailer For THE DIVERGENT SERIES: ALLEGIANT - "Beyond the Wall"

The first teaser trailer has been released for The Divergent Series: Allegiant. This is the third film in the dystopian franchise, and it doesn't look any better or any worse than the first two films. This next chapter takes Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) into a new world that is a lot more dangerous than anything they've had to deal with before.

After the earth-shattering revelations of INSURGENT, Tris must escape with Four and go beyond the wall enclosing Chicago. For the first time ever, they will leave the only city and family they have ever known in order to find a peaceful solution for their embroiled city. Once outside, old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless with the revelation of shocking new truths. Tris and Four must quickly decide who they can trust as a ruthless battle ignites beyond the walls of Chicago which threatens all of humanity. In order to survive, Tris will be forced to make impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice and love.

The movie also stars Jeff Daniels, Octavia Spencer, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, Daniel Dae Kim, and Naomi Watts. These aren't the best movies, but my wife and kids enjoy them, so I watch the films to make them happy.

The movie is set to open up in theaters on March 18th, 2015.
