Steven Spielberg's classic thriller that made us all afraid to go into the water is finally coming to Blu-ray. The Digital Bits (via AICN) is reporting that Jaws is coming to Blu-ray on August 14, 2012! Apparently, Spielberg has been working on it's release for quite some time.

At this time there is not much news on the special features, but knowing Spielberg it will likely be packed full of enough cool stuff to scare both old and new audiences. This is going to be a definite purchase for me, what about you? Are you looking forward to buying Jaws on Blu-ray?

I bet you never thought you would ever see Darth Vader and Adolf Hitler in a rap battle... I know I didn't until today when I was sent this YouTube video of the two evil bastards spitting rap hate at each other. This just seems wrong on so many levels, but at the same time I can't help but laugh at it. The video was created by ERB and this is part of a video series he's working on called Epic Rap Battles of History. It will be interesting to see who will do battle next. Cinema 2011 - Another Great Video Montage of This Year's Films

Video editor  has created yet another fantastic end of year video montage showing off all of the great films we've seen over the last year. This is the same video editor that created the the [the film of] series focusing on film directors. The video is called Cinema 2011, and here's a note from the editor:

A mix of laughs, kisses, fights, tears and everything in between. Here’s what brought us together this year. God, I love cinema. Each year I’m reminded of the sheer force a couple of frames can hold, and it’s something only found in film. It seems to just fly by, and if you don’t pay attention, you might miss it all. A gorgeous masterpiece about one family coping with the end of the world, the portrait of a young man diagnosed with cancer, the end of a ten-year adventure that reached millions, a cynical writer discovering the magic of Paris… No matter how you look at it, 2011 had something to offer for everyone.

After Cinema 2008, 2009 and 2010, I decided to take a new approach. Artists like Gen and Matt have explored new terrain of the end-of-the-year montage and the urge to keep Cinema’s identity intact became bigger than ever. After experimenting with a more personal vision last year, I decided to focus more on the year itsself rather than my vision on it. The Cinema series has a special place for me because bringing so many films together makes it so very clear why we want to spend hours and hours in a dark room filled with strangers. As always, thanks a million to my wonderful subscribers and viewers, everyone who I’ve had the joy of sharing my passion with and everyone else who’ve made my YouTube career such a wonderful success. This one’s for you.

That being said... enjoy the video.

MTV Producing Geek Reality Show Called FANDOM RISING

As if Beauty and the Geek was not enough, MTV is reportedly set to produce a new “experimental documentary series” about geek culture. The show is called Fandom Rising and is from the producers of Jersey Shore.

Ashton Kutcher produced Beauty and the Geek, which was a reality dating competition that did not put a good light (in my opinion) on Geeks. The fact that the same team that is pimping out Guidos and Guidettes is behind this show makes me a tad bit nervous. Read all the details below in the official press release:

Hollywood, CA (December 20, 2011) – From the masterminds behind “The Jersey Shore” comes a new vision for the future of television.

Doron Ofir Casting and 495 Productions is proud to launch the search for the most passionately obsessed, proudly self-identified pop culture fanatics from the worlds of comics, graphic novels, sci-fi, anime, manga, videogames, toys, movies, and television.

“FANDOM RISING” will boldly go where no fanboy or fangirl has gone before! If you are a guy or girl who gets all the references in “The Big Bang Theory,” quotes the Original Trilogy, revels in spotting Cylons among us, joins the horde, wishes to attend Hogwarts, Starfleet Academy, or Xavier’s School for the Gifted, and reveres masters of science fiction and fantasy — this is the show for you!!!.

You are officially being summoned for an experimental documentary series that takes a deeper look at the lives and relationships of people who love fantasy, fiction, cosplay, comics, gaming and science.

“A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… men and women were free to create their own universes, passionately collect their obsessions, and proudly celebrate their eccentricities without any persecution from their peers. Now it’s time for the nerds to once again have their revenge, and show just why it’s the geeks who shall inherit the Earth,” Doron Ofir, President.

“FANDOM RISING” is currently looking for those who value brains over brawn, substance over status quo, and march to the beat of their own cantina band. If your life is filled with the exquisite, the extraordinary and the exceptional, you are officially being summoned to join the Fandom Rising!

Does this seem like a perfect fit for you? If so, head on over to the Fandom Casting to apply. If I was not working for GeekTyrant and was a little younger, I might do just that. What about you?

Seth Rogen to Star in Action Comedy THE B TEAM

$

0

Seth Rogan has attached himself to a new film project at Disney called The B Team. He will serve as a producer on the action spy comedy and will most likely end up taking a starring role in the movie.

As you can imagine, The B Team is a lower level group of operatives that are not as awesome as The A Team. The film is still in the development stage, but the story focuses on a top secret agent who is kidnapped, leaving his tech support team and researchers to rescue him.

Sounds like there could be some fun elements in the film, but there's not much to go off of right now. According to Variety Disney has been sitting on the project for over three years after they bought the pitch from screenwriters Derek Guiley and David Schneiderman (Chasing Liberty). Better late than never I guess. The reason it kind of got pushed back is because there was another film in development at the time called The B Team at Sony Pictures. It later ended up being retitled The Other Guys which starred Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg.

Rogen will next be seen in Paramount Pictures mother-son road-trip comedy My Mother's Curse opposite Barbra Streisand

Could a Third GREMLINS Be on the Horizon?

$

0
The question may be, do you want to see a new Gremlins movie? Moviehole is reporting that Warner Bros. has renewed the domain Gremlins3.com, which they have owned since 2009. This does not mean that a new film is definitely coming our way, but the studio renewed domains for Green Lantern (GreenLantern2.com) and The Hangover (TheHangover3.com), both of which are being made.

It is also rumored that the studio has reserved domains for the following: Blade Runner 2, Lost Boys 4, Police Academy 8, Lethal Weapon 5 and The Goonies 2. Just about everything that the studio has bought domain-wise has been announced or is in development.

Director Joe Dante is not on good terms with WB, so he has stated that he does not expect to be asked back to direct a third film. Dante had this to say about the idea of more Gremlins films:
I’m constantly asked ‘why the hold up on Gremlins 3? And that’s because those films were such products of the technology at the time. The movie was more limited and created by technology. They were puppets. The storylines, then, were based around what we could do with the Gremlins. Now, of course, anything is possible but it becomes a little more difficult to hone it on what your storyline would be. First of all, I won’t be asked. Second of all, I wouldn’t bring back the original cast because it’s been too long – the kids now would be familiar with the title, and familiar with Gizmo and Stripe, but as far as the actual [live-action] characters and story, they don’t know them.. it.
I would be willing to bet that this may be more of a reboot than a true third film in the franchise. The studio could set up a redirect from that domain to a new site that represents the name of the movie. On the other hand, the studio could be covering all of their bases for possible future projects. Either way, I am interested in seeing a third film.

What are your thoughts? Would you like to see a new Gremlins?

Silly Sweded Trailer for THE DARK KIGHT RISES

Here's an entertainingly silly sweded trailer for Christpher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. This trailer was created by the same team of people that made The Avengers sweded trailer we posted a couple of months ago. It's fun to see how inventive these guys get with what little they choose to work with. It's fun to see them try and pull off the epic special effects sequences.

For those of you not familiar with the term sweded, it comes from the film Be Kind Rewind, and it's a low-budget, homemade remake of a film which is why it looks so gloriously bad. The sweded trailer was made by Bryan Harley, check it out below and tell us what you think! Enjoy!

Comic Review: JUSTICE LEAGUE #4

Tyrants!

We’re back for a review of Justice League #4. Let’s dive right in, shall we?

Review:
We return right where we left off last issue. Victor Stone’s armor has fully integrated with his body, and just in time as Darkseid’s parademons are about to kill his dad and the remaining S.T.A.R. Labs staff. Since Victor has no clue what’s going on, his armor reacts defensively with its crazy weaponry and murderizes his attackers. When things quiet down a bit, Silas Stone explains to his son what exactly happened and why half of his body is now made of military-grade cybernetics. To say that Victor is not happy with all his new situation is an understatement. So naturally, he runs off in a flurry of teenage angst.

And along the way, he runs into more parademons. Only this time, Victor’s cybernetic armor interfaces with one of them and finds out its mission objectives. Let's just say that none of those objectives are of the peaceful variety. Wow, Victor Stone has had the worst day ever.

Back to the rest of the Justice League, Aquaman has now joined the scene, which now includes Superman, Flash, Batman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern. Aquaman details how Darkseid’s forces rudely started building a fortress in his ocean and are definitely bringing their hostages there.

It seems that while everyone else believed Aquaman was another urban legend, Batman of course knew of his existence.

The League still has no official name or affiliation, but it is acknowledged that a general leader is needed, which both Aquaman and Batman jockey for. But that can’t be decided until they not only deal with this parademon invasion, but also find a way to shake off the U.S. Army helicopters now shooting at both them and Darkseid’s parademons.

As the League takes down the Army choppers without injuring anyone, Cyborg appears on the scene disoriented and nearly out of it. Guess we got the whole gang together. And just in time too, as Darkseid finally makes his first full appearance to personally deal with the newly formed Justice League!

What worked:
I like how the League is still figuring out their structure and is not quite gelling yet. But everyone realizes that given the situation, they clearly need to work together on this. Plus, the whole main roster for the Justice League is finally together. The bits of humor with Green Lanten are good (him touching Wonder Woman's lasso and speaking way too much truth), but Geoff Johns needs to be careful to not turn Hal into a blustery caricature of himself.

Also, Darkseid’s new outfit looks AWESOME. I guess we’ll have to wait until issue 5 to see if his powers are different at all.

And finally, when does Jim Lee’s artwork not look amazing? It’s a moot point now.

What didn’t work:
I understand the expediency and the need to get everyone together, but the formation of the League still feels a bit rushed and forced. Let’s hope the League gets to figure out its place and structure after the Darkseid storyline ends in issue #6.

Final Thoughts:
Another solid issue with the league now unofficially yet fully formed and Darkseid finally appearing to take on the Justice League. Can’t wait until issue #5! See you guys then.

JOHN CARTER - Awesome Concept Art Revealed

Here's a great collection of concept art for Disney's upcoming sci-fi film John Carter, and I have to say the stuff I see here look better than anything I've seen from the actual movie. I'm thinking that maybe this movie would have been better as an animated feature. I love that first piece of concept art above... that looks like a badass movie. The movie just doesn't have that gritty edge.

Most of the concept art shows off the land of Barsoom, which is the fantasy version of Mars from the Edgar Rice Burroughs' stories. Director Andrew Stanton brought this world to life using Zion National Park in Utah.

Check out the concept art and tell us what you think!

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5 Is Being Pushed Forward

$
0
0

It's really no surprise that Paramount Pictures and Skydance want to make a fifth Mission: Impossible movie. After all, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol ended up being an awesomely entertaining movie, and on top of that it was a commercial success! Moviehole recently spoke with an inside studio source who said,

they’re “extremely happy” with how well the film was doing (going so far as to suggest it might be the big money-maker of the Christmas period; Personally, I think “The Muppets” and “Tintin” are forces to be reckoned with) and that they’ve heard “Skydance definitely wants to get going quickly on [Mission] 5. And a Top Gun” with Tom. Paramount are onboard for both.

The end of Ghost Protocol definitely suggests that a fifth movie would be made, and that Cruise would be back to reprise his role as Ethan Hunt. There was a lot of speculation that this would not be the case after Jeremy Renner was cast in the movie. There was a possibility that he would end up taking over the franchise. Not anymore. Pegg offered some insight on this in a previous interview,

I think that might have been the plan earlier on, but as the film progressed and we enjoyed it so much I think the idea of Ethan Hunt retiring fell by the wayside. Tom [Cruise] suddenly remembered why he loved doing these films so much and suddenly thought ‘well maybe I do want to do more?’.

If “Mission : Impossible 5″ does become a reality (and all signs suggest it will), Pegg says he’d “love to be part of that gang” again. And he says “It’d be nice to see them go into a mission a little better equipped and prepared and have some things that actually work”, as opposed to what goes on in the latest film.

After seeing Ghost Protocol I hoped that we would get to see another one. It would be great to see this team get back together taking on impossible missions, but only if the same people are involved. I want J.J. Abrams and Brad Bird back to develop the story and direct the film. At one point Bird was offered a suggestion to bring Leonard Nimoy back as his old character from the original TV series in the fifth film, to that he said,

Hey man, what a good idea! cross pollinating the bad robot films!”, Bird says of bringing ‘Paris’ back from the classic series. “I’ll bring that up with JJ. I’ll be sure to discuss it.”

Hopefully he does bring that up with JJ because that will mean that Bird would be back and activily developing the fifth Mission: Impossible film. Would you like to see a Mission: Impossible 5 happen?

New Image from Tim Burton's FRANKENWEENIE

$

Disney has released a brand new image from Tim Burton's highly anticipated black and white 3D stop-motion animated film Frankenweenie. The movie is an adaptation of a great live-action short film Burton made back in the 80's. Disney had no interest in making the film back them because it was too dark. Now Disney can't wait to get the movie released! It's amazing how this industry functions.

The new image features a young Victor Frankenstein laying in bed while his faithful pup Sparky lays beneath it. Frankenweenie is a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor's fellow students, teachers, and the entire town all learn that getting a new "leash on life" can be monstrous.

The films characters will be voiced by Winona RyderMartin ShortCatherine O'HaraMartin LandauCharlie TahanAtticus ShafferRobert Capron, and Conchata Ferrell. Check out the image below:

I loved what I saw from this film at D23 this year, and I'm certain that Burton fans are going to love it, I just hope it will do well with general audiences. I love the fact that it will be in black and white, but not sure if the kids will be into it. GT writer Kristal Bailey had this to say in her first impression review...

The film has a unique look not only because of Tim Burton’s signature style and stop motion; it’s also shot in black and white. The film’s producer Allison Abbate shared with the enthusiastic crowd that kids loved the “fresh” look of a black and white film; while I hate to think of the classic black and white style as “fresh” it is for the young kids and entire generation who have grown up with big budget, explosion heavy blockbusters.

Here's what Burton had to say recently to EW,

It just tries to keep that idea of a very, simple pure relationship. Mix that with the Frankenstein myth, and it causes problems.” But the big beating heart in the story (apart from the re-animated one inside Frankenweenie’s chest) is the sad fact that we all outlive those four-legged pals from our childhood, and goodbye can be a painful thing. The idea of bringing a lost friend back to life? “It has its good side and repercussions. Ultimately, we try to go with the slightly more positive aspects of keeping that [boy-and-his-dog] relationship going.

The movie is set to be released on October 5th, 2012!

I can't say I'm the biggest Taylor Swift fan, but she wrote and recorded an original song for the big screen adaptation of The Hunger Games with The Civil Wars called Safe & Sound. It's really not that bad of a song. It kind of reminds me of the style of music from another band I listen to named Eisley. Listen to the song and hit us up with your thoughts!

So That BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Reboot Is Losing Steam

$

Last year is was announced that Warner Bros. was looking to reboot a feature film version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and fans didn't seem very happy about it. Well, I'm happy to tell you that it doesn't look like that Buffy reboot is going to happen anytime soon.

The studio ended up hiring first time screenwriter Whit Anderson to take on the script, and according inside sources the studio wasn't really happy with the script she turned in. LA Times reports that Anderson "fell far short of expectations and, in the end, was rejected completely."

Ouch, for a first time screenwriter that would be incredibly discouraging to hear, and a massive blow to her self esteem. The studio is now out looking for another writer, but according to the source the project may have lost it's steam. Producers also have a fear of the fans, and the fact most of them were pissed off when they heard about the reboot in the first place. The source went on to say,

If you’re going to bring it back, you have to do it right. [Anderson] came in with some great ideas and she had reinvented some of the lore, and it was pretty cool but in the end there just wasn’t enough on the page.

The fact that Joss Whedon will have nothing to do with this reboot gives me no confidence or excitement in a Buffy reboot. Whedon himself wasn't happy with the idea and he expressed his feeling in a statement he made last November,

This is a sad, sad reflection on our times. when people must feed off the carcasses of beloved stories from their youths — just because they can’t think of an original idea of their own, like I did with my Avengers idea that I made up myself.

The studio should just let this one go. What do you think?
