PROMETHEUS - Trailer Preview is live and it's EPIC

Here is a trailer preview for Ridley Scott’s highly-anticipated Prometheus. Even though it is short, it is epic to me. I loved hearing Scott talk about the film and seeing the small bits of scenes we did. This movie looks beautiful and dark all mixed together.

Synopsis:

Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Prometheus was written by Damon Lindelof and Jon Spaihts and stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron,Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Logan Marshall-Green, Guy Pearce, and Patrick Wilson.

The first full trailer is scheduled to arrive on Thursday on iTunes, so stay tuned to GeekTyrant to check it out later this week. Until then, watch the trailer preview below and share your thoughts:

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN - Sweet Fan Made Poster

0
0

Here is a sweet fan made poster for Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man. Unfortunately, I have no idea who designed this because of the lack of sourcing on ShockYa. If I find out, I will update the post.

I was excited to see this movie when it was announced and sold on the Webb's vision after Comic-Con. The theatrical trailer will seal the deal for the masses who may still be wondering why there is a need for this film.

Are you looking forward to seeing this film?

Synopsis:

Like most teenagers his age, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. In his journey to put the pieces of his past together he uncovers a secret that his father held…a secret that will ultimately shape his destiny as Spider-Man. This is the first in a series of movies that tells a different side of the Peter Parker story. On July 3rd, 2012, the untold story begins. And starring Andrew Garfield (Peter Parker), Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy), Denis Leary (George Stacy), Rhys Ifans (Curt Conners), Martin Sheen (Ben Parker), and Sally Field (May Parker), directed by Marc Webb, The Amazing Spider-Man movie is swinging into theaters in IMAX 3D!

PROMETHEUS - Ridley Scott reveals Space Jockey and Xenomorph Details

0
0

As you know there's still a lot of mystery surrounding Ridley Scott's new sci-fi film Prometheus, but the director recently gave an interview in which he definitively revealed how much from the Alien franchise will be in this movie.

Be warned, if you read ahead you will be entering some Spoiler territory. This interview clarifies a lot of things and gives us more of a complete idea of what this films story revolves around.

The interview reveals what the Space Jockeys role is in the story, and addresses the question of... "will we actually see any Xenomorph's in the movie? Here's what the director had to say about the Space Jockey,

I was always amazed that no one asked who the hell the Space Jockey was. He wasn’t even called the Space Jockey. During the film they started to call it the Space Jockey. I don’t know who started that one off. I always thought it was amazing that no one ever asked who he was, and why was he there? What was all that about? I sat thinking about this for a while and thought, well, there’s a story! And the other four [films] missed it! So, here it is.

And this one does actually raise all kinds of other questions, because if someone could, a being, could be as monstrously clever to create something like we experienced in the very first one – I always figured it’s a weapon, and I always figured that [the ship in the first Alien] was a carrier of weapons. Therefore, who is that, inside that suit? That wasn’t a skeleton, that was a suit. And if you open up the suit, what do you get inside it? And why were they going, where were they going?

Freakin' awesome! So after all this time it's been confirmed by the director that Prometheus can in fact be considered a prequel to Alien. Scott is then asked at one point if the xenomorph alien will actually appear in Prometheus, his answer...

No. Absolutely not. They squeezed it dry. He (the xenomorph) did very well. (He laughs) He survived, he’s now in Disneyland in Orlando, and no way am I going back there. How did he end up in Disneyland? I saw him in Disneyland, Jesus Christ!

So that's that. Don't expect to see any xenomorph aliens in this movie. You wont hear me complain about that, this movie looks like it's gonna be incredible! What are your thoughts on what Scott had to say here?

Read the full interview at Filmophilia for some more of the directors thoughts.

The movie was written by Damon Lindelof and Jon Spaihts and stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Logan Marshall-Green, Guy Pearce, and Patrick Wilson.

The movie will be released on June 8th 2012.

Here's the synopsis:

We have the first poster and a new UK red band trailer for the upcoming comedy 21 Jump Street starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. I think that the movie looks a lot better than I initially expected. Tatum and Hill seem to have good chemistry on screen and the movie looks like it will be a solid action comedy.

Synopsis:

Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum)…two guys who join the police force’s secret Jump Street unit and use their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school.

The eager rookies trade in their guns and badges for backpacks and risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring while having to deal with all of the teenage issues they thought they left back in high school just a few years earlier.

21 Jump Street arrives in theaters on March 16. Watch the new trailer below and share your thougths:

Blu-ray Review: FRIGHT NIGHT

0
0
I am not usually a fan of remakes, but Craig Gillespie’s Fright Night is a slight exception. I saw this film over the summer and was fairly happy with the outcome. I think that the original is a must-watch for horror fans. It is a classic and will never stop being awesome, but let’s face it, it needed to be updated. After re-watching the original not too long ago, I realized that the picture and sound quality is way below par and the special effects could use an updating. Gillespie did just that with his take on Fright Night. If you did not watch it in theaters, you can watch it in the comfort of your home.

Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin and David Tennant are phenomenal. Farrell brings the intense scare factor while Yelchin and Tennant both bring comedy to the film. I also liked Toni Collette as Charlie’s mom, who also brought some funny moments and great lines to the film. I loved the nod to the original with the cameo, which I am still not goin to ruin in this review for you. Trust me, if you have seen the original film you willl love that aspect of the movie.

My biggest complaints about the film was the story and character of Evil Ed, played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse. His storyline seemed to be rushed at times during the film, and I wish his character had a much bigger role like he did in the original film. It was almost as if Evil Ed was thrown in as an after thought. Evil Ed’s death in the original was one of the best scenes, and this one was far more scary, but anticlimactic.

I loved the special effects of this movie. There is one shot that we were shown at Comic-Con that is truly awesome. It is part of chase scene where the camera essentially does a 360-degree turn, and it is awesome. The amount of blood is amped up in this version as well, which I enjoyed. What is not to love about properly used gore? The picture and sound quality add to the tone of the film. The disc is presented in widescreen (1.78:1) and in DTS-HD 7.1 surround.

The special features of this Blu-ray are actually nothing special. If you are a huge fan of David Tennant then you will love them. The 2-minute segment called “Peter Vincent: Come Swim in my Blood” shows Tennant in character as Peter Vincent, and is rather funny. The obligatory Making-Of featurette is rather lame. It runs 8-minutes, is titled “The Official ‘How to Make a Funny Vampire Movie’ Guide”, and gives a run down of the various vampire rules. I would have loved to see some longer cast interviews and some candid shots from the set. I am a fan of Kid Cudi, but the song and music video he did for the film is horrible.

In Conclusion, fans of horror will like this remake because it is much gorrier than the original film. The action sequences are cool, but few and far between. Fans of the original film characters, such as Evil Ed, will be unhappy with Mintz-Plasse’s portrayal. I think that this is an improvement and would have loved to have seen more Tennant. FRIGHT NIGHT is available on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD, Digital and On-Demand.

Alfonso Cuaron's GRAVITY gets an official synopsis

0
0
Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity seems to have been in development forever. More actors have been attached to the film or have tested for roles than there are stars on the Hollywood walk of fame. Of course I joke, but everyone from Robert Downey Jr., Blake Lively, Scarlett Johansson, Marion Cottilard, Sienna Miller, Abbie Cornish, Naomi Watts, Rebecca Hall, Olivia Wilde and Carey Mulligan were up to star opposite Robert Downey Jr., until he left. The producers finally set up the film with George Clooney and Sandra Bullock.

Aside from casting, not much has been known about the movie that has been described as Castaway in Space. Warner Bros. just released the official synopsis for the film:
Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone--tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness.

The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth...and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left.

But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.
This sounds pretty interesting to me as a fan of science fiction. I love Cuaron’s other films, especially Children of Men. Bullock and Clooney should be good together on screen. What are your thoughts?

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN - Marc Webb Discusses the Film with Scene Details

0
0

Empire Magazine recently conducted a great little interview with director Marc Webb, who is hard at work bringing a new Amazing Spider-Man movie to the big screen. In the interview he discusses the film and explains that it's not a remake and that it's much different from Sam Raimi's films. He also showed Empire a few scenes from the film with Spider-Man and The Lizard that they give descriptions of.

I don't have a problem saying that word. It's not a remake, we're not making Sam's movie again. It's a different universe and a different story with different characters. There are certain mythological obligations people have in any story, but it's so radically different in terms of tone and what Peter Parker experiences that I'm very comfortable with the movie occupying a different space.

I wanted to start from a place where it felt like, if you walked into the theatre, that it was the same universe you lived in. Which is difficult when you have a giant lizard running down the street...

He's the literal embodiment of the theme of the movie, which is we all have a missing piece. He has no arm. Peter has no parents, and he fills that void with Spider-Man. Curt is not as strong as Spider-Man on the inside, but he wants to get back his arm and fill that void, and essentially he becomes a big bully.

I love what Webb says here, and I agree with his opinions and his outlook on the character. I'm really looking forward to seeing his vision in action. I honestly think there's a chance that this could be a better film than Raimi's version, and I absolutely love Raimi's vision! Webb then shows a few clips and here are the descriptions...

The movie starts off pretty small and gradually merges into something that's more fantastic and vibrant and filled with scope," he says, and by way of illustration, runs three scenes in which we see Spider-Man swing. The first is entirely practical, with Garfield - in Parker duds - swinging around inside a disused warehouse, with the giant wired rig to which the whooping actor is attached yet to be deleted via CGI.

The second, from a little later in the film, is the only sequence Empire sees that is even somewhat redolent of Raimi-vision, as Spider-Man swings giddily along a bridge in pursuit of something, even running briefly on the side of a passing truck.

The third one, though, shows that Webb hasn't abandoned CG. Far from it. The sequence - which is from the third act so we'll be sure to tread carefully - features Spider-Man in pursuit of The Lizard (here seen just once, in very rough animatic form, from a distance as he scales a building), while being pursued himself by cops. Following an excellently staged fight with the cops, and an emotionally charged confrontation with, erm, A Major Character, the sequence follows a wounded Spider-Man as he tries desperately to swing across New York in order to save the day.

Damn, I wish I could have seen those scenes! At least it's good to know that one day I will. Webb is then asked about the film being compared to Twilight in which he responds,

I haven't seen a Twilight movie, so i don't know how to comment on that. People may assume because it's me doing Spider-Man, it's more intimate. And it is, but one of the reasons I wanted to do it was to [frick]ing blow shit up, swing through the air and kick some ass.

Empire concludes with...

Webb's Amazing Spider-Man will plant Peter firmly in his teenage years. He doesn't have a job (the Daily Bugle is mentioned, but won't be seen until the inevitable sequel), he likes to skateboard, he has uncontrollable hair, he's a kid searching for the truth about his parent's disappearance.

The magazine comes out next week, and if you want to read more you will obviously have to pick yourself up a copy. What are your thoughts on what Webb had to say and the scene descriptions given?

First RISE OF THE GUARDIANS Teaser Poster Arrives

0
0
Here is our first look at the teaser poster for Rise of The Guardians. The film is directed by Peter Ramsey and William Joyce and stars Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher and Jude Law.

Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire penned this epic adventure that tells the story of a group of heroes – each with extraordinary abilities and based on “The Guardians of Childhood,” a series of highly anticipated children’s books by William Joyce.

Here is a description of the film:

More than a collection of the well-known childhood legends, Rise of the Guardians tells the story of a group of heroes — each with extraordinary abilities. When an evil spirit known as Pitch lays down the gauntlet to take over the world, the immortal Guardians must join forces for the first time to protect the hopes, beliefs and imagination of children all over the world. This epic 3D adventure stars Chris Pine as Jack Frost, Alec Baldwin as North (Santa Claus), Hugh Jackman as Bunnymund (Easter Bunny), Isla Fisher as Tooth (Tooth Fairy) and Jude Law as Pitch (The Boogeyman).

Guillermo del Toro and Michael Siegel exec produced the film which is slated to arrive in theaters on November 21, 2012.

I think that this story sounds pretty cool. Let's hope they don't go the same route as Mirror Mirror, which looks horrible. Check out the poster below and share your thoughts:

David Fincher shares awesome SPIDER-MAN opening sequence that never was

0
0
David Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is set to arrive in theaters this week, and I am very excited. Fincher recently sat down with io9 to talk about the film, and he also talked a bit about the plans he had to direct Spider-Man. He went into great detail on how he planned to shoot the opening title sequence

Before Marc Webb signed on to direct The Amazing Spider-Man, Fincher’s name was in the mix to direct. Here is what he had to say about his plans for the film:
My impression what Spider-Man could be is very different from what Sam [Raimi] did or what Sam wanted to do. I think the reason he directed that movie was because he wanted to do the Marvel comic superhero. I was never interested in the genesis story. I couldn't get past a guy getting bit by a red and blue spider. It was just a problem… It was not something that I felt I could do straight-faced. I wanted to start with Gwen Stacy and the Green Goblin, and I wanted to kill Gwen Stacy.

The title sequence of the movie that I was going to do was going to be a ten minute — basically a music video, an opera, which was going to be the one shot that took you through the entire Peter Parker [backstory]. Bit by a radio active spider, the death of Uncle Ben, the loss of Mary Jane, and [then the movie] was going to begin with Peter meeting Gwen Stacy. It was a very different thing, it wasn't the teenager story. It was much more of the guy who's settled into being a freak.
Check back to io9 later in the week to read the full interview with Fincher. I am very happy with Webb helming the film, but Fincher would have definitely been cool. I trust Fincher and would have been very happy with the opening sequence he mentioned above.

PARANORMAL WITNESS gets Renewed for Second Season

I don't know if you've seen the new Syfy Channel series Paranormal Witness yet or not, but I think it's a pretty cool series, and most of the episodes I've seen have been scary as hell! This is a entertaining series to watch for any ghost or horror enthusiast. I'm excited to report that the docudrama has been renewed for a 12-episode second season that is scheduled to premiere in August.

The series "re-creates the real stories of people who have lived through paranormal experiences that defy explanation. In its first season, which premiered September 7, Paranormal Witness averaged 990,000 adults 18-49 and 1.7 million total viewers. It ranked as the No. 7 new original cable series in the fourth quarter among adults 18-49."

Have you watch this series yet? If so what did you think about it?

Awesome Steampunk'd Disney Character Art!

0
0

Here's a awesome collection of classic Disney movie characters with a fun Steampunk upgrade. This art series was created by Deviant Art artist MecaniqueFairy, and apparently there's a little argument on weather or not the design is actually steampunk. The art is obviously inspired by steampunk, but here's a note from the artist explaining things...

Recently I received a note telling me that my disney steampunk should not bear the term "steampunk", because steampunk is first and above all the concept of steam power to achieve modern levels of technology, not corsets, gears and goggles.

I apologize to those I have insulted when I calling my fanarts Steampunk, but personally I love them! Maybe my costumes are not 100% steam power, but they are largely inspired by this style. I believe there are hundreds of ways to interpret a style and my disney fanarts are my interpretation of steampunk.

But again I respect and love any other interpretation of this wonderful style, that I find beautiful and I don't want to offend anyone.

Just let the artist be. It sucks that the artist has to defend the style of her work from internet trolls. If she say's it was inspired by steampunk then the art is steampunk, hell it looks like steampunk to me! Check out the art collection below and tell us what you think!

Crazy Red-Band Trailer for THE THEATER BIZARRE

0
0

A new trailer has been released for an insanely crazy looking surreal film called The Theater Bizarre. This looks like the kind of horror film you have to have an acquired taste for. The most looks incredibly far out and depending on the type of person you are... it could be entertaining. I'm not sure what the hell is going on in this trailer other than a punch of random disturbing shots of madness. I will remind you that this is a red-band trailer and is NSFW.

The film is an anthology of horror ffeaturing stories from David Gregory, Buddy Giovinazzo, Richard Stanley, Douglas Buck, Karim Hussain, Tom Savini and Jeremy Kasten.

But, there is a synopsis, and here it is...

Down a seedy city street, a young woman (Virginia Newcomb) is obsessed with what appears to be a long abandoned theatre. One night, she sees the front door slightly ajar and impulsively decides to sneak inside. But there in the vast, eerie auditorium, a show unlike any other unfolds before her eyes. Its host is an odd marionette-like man (Udo Kier) who will introduce her to six tales of the bizarre...

A couple traveling in a remote part of the French Pyrenees crosses paths with a lustful witch; a paranoid lover faces the wrath of a partner who has been pushed to her limit; the Freudian dreams of an unfaithful husband blur the lines between fantasy and reality; the horrors of the real world are interpreted through the mind of a child; a woman addicted to other people's memories gets her fix through the fluid of her victims’ eyeballs; and a perverse obsession with sweets turns sour for a couple in too deep. But as the stories unfold, something strange is happening to the woman. Something irreversible and horrific.

Watch the trailer below and tell us what you think!

The Top 13 Guilty Pleasure Movies!

0
0

Let’s face it. We can’t hide it. We all have those movies that we like that others would shun. These are guilty pleasures: the ones that aren’t that great but we love for some reason or another. Here are mine. Be sure to list yours in the comments, if you’d like.

Last Action Hero (1993)

Rotten Tomatoes: 38%

Actors: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Austin O’Brien, F. Murray Abraham, Art Carney, Charles Dance

Director: John McTiernan/Writers: Shane Black and David Arnott

Here’s the thing: I will defend this movie’s concept till Doomsday. A movie about a kid with a magic ticket that gets pulled into an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie? Genius concept.  Yes, the kid is annoying. Yes, the movie doesn’t reach the heights of a McTiernan/Black team-up as well as one might think. It’s interesting to note that McTiernan’s isn’t working as much as he used to and Shane Black is about to start work on Iron Man 3. Still, I think it’s a one-of-a-kind movie that deserves to be seen once.

Mr. Magoo (1997)

Rotten Tomatoes: 4%

Actors: Leslie Nielsen, Kelly Lynch, Matt Kessler, Nick Chinlund, Stephen Tobolowsky, Ernie Hudson, Jennifer Garner, Malcolm McDowell, Miguel Ferrer

Director: Stanley Tong/Writers: Pat Proft and Tom Sherohman

I’m not sure why blind people got upset over this movie. It’s not like they saw it! Seriously, everybody got so upset and they forgot Mr. Magoo isn’t blind. He is nearsighted. You don’t let a blind man drive a car, for crying out loud! I think was just Leslie Nielsen wanting to do a kids’ version of his famed Naked Gun movies. And really, who else but Leslie Nielsen could play Mr. Magoo?

Sahara (2005)

Rotten Tomatoes: 39%

Actors: Matthew McConaughey, Steve Zahn, Penélope Cruz, William H. Macy, Rainn Wilson

Director: Breck Eisner/Writers: Thomas Dean Donnelly, Joshua Oppenheimer, John C. Richards, and James V. Hart

In the years between Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, there were many movies made to find the next great adventure series. Most notably were the Nicholas Cage National Treasure movies. But there was this adaptation of one of Clive Cussler’s novels, “Sahara”, starring his fictional hero Dirk Pitt played by Matthew McConaughey (there was an earlier film titled Raise the Titanic with Richard London in the role). It’s really light-hearted mostly due to the great straight man-comedy relief team of Matthew McConaughey and Steve Zahn, the great oldies rock soundtrack and America’s introduction to the future Dwight Schrute, Rainn Wilson (he previously appeared as an alien in Galaxy Quest).

S1m0ne (2002)

Rotten Tomatoes: 51%

Actors: Al Pacino, Rachel Roberts, Catherine Keener, Evan Rachel Wood, Winona Ryder, Jason Schwartzman

Director/Writer: Andrew Niccol

I think what really hurt this movie was that it was really ahead of its time. Back then, photorealistic CGI was an alien concept and a movie trying to move that along was swiftly forgotten. That and the Screen Actors Guild were angry that the movie was suggesting that any actor could be simply replaced by a computer program. I give a lot of credit to Al Pacino for doing a rare comedy (yes, I’m fully aware he’s in Jack & Jill). And yes, this is a comedy unlike Andrew Niccol’s previous screenplay The Truman Show (his latest film was In Time), and he even got to walk away with the leading lady as his wife! Disney Channel even ripped off this film with their TV movie Pixel Perfect in a more family friendly way. I questioned whether or not I should put this in my guilty pleasures list because I really don’t see a lot of hate for this film and it’s really not annoying. One of those “smart man’s comedies”.

George of the Jungle (1997)

Rotten Tomatoes: 56%

Actors: Brendan Fraser, Leslie Mann, Thomas Hayden Church, John Cleese, Abraham Benrubi, Holland Taylor

Director: Sam Weisman/Writer: Dana Olsen and Audrey Wells

Would you believe it’s the highest-rated film on this list? I wouldn’t have earlier. I did see this film in theaters when I was 6 years old. It was preceded by the first and only Mickey Mouse short film I’ve seen in theaters, “Runaway Brain” (a very, very underrated film mostly because of its semi-dark nature). Interestingly, Joel Hodgson (creator of “Mystery Science Theater 3000”) had written of a draft of the script that went largely unused. This movie actually led to the producers of The Mummy to casting Brendan Fraser. Not to mention Mrs. Judd Apatow stars as Ursula (he himself wrote Heavyweights) and Oscar-nominee Thomas Hayden Church as the villain Lyle. As a kids’ movie, it’s largely silly and harmless, but I’m not sure how much parents will get out of it outside of nostalgia for the original cartoon

Good Burger (1997)

Rotten Tomatoes: 31%

Actors: Kel Mitchell, Kenan Thompson, Sinbad, Abe Vigoda, Dan Schneider, Linda Cardellini, Shaquille O’Neal, George Clinton, Carmen Electra

Director: Brian Robbins/Writers: Dan Schneider, Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert

It’s hard to believe that the career of Dan Schneider, the creator of such hit tween shows such as “Victorious” and “iCarly”, started out with such a hated film as Good Burger. It’s a 103 minute version of a 3-minute sketch from his first show “All That” that basically starts with the phrase “Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger, can I take your order?” Does this sound like a good premise for a little over an hour and a half? Not really, but this is when nostalgia basically takes over. It’s not exactly a value meal, but it’s a good snack from the ‘90s.

Kangaroo Jack (2003)

Rotten Tomatoes: 8%

Actors: Jerry O’Connell, Anthony Anderson, Estella Warren, Christopher Walken, Michael Shannon, Adam Garcia

Director: David McNally/Writers: Steve Bing and Scott Rosenberg

When you show a talking kangaroo in your commercials, kids expect to have him in the movie longer than 2 minutes. But that’s what happens when Jerry Bruckheimer gets inspired by Snow Dogs. Not sure how this film really applies to kids outside of the CG kangaroo and the opening sequence featuring the main characters as kids (and the “Superman” theme which comes courtesy of their home studio of Warner Bros.; oddly enough, Michael Shannon was later cast in Man of Steel). Is it dumb? Absolutely. Is it as bad a stereotypical film of Australia as Crocodile Dundee? Possibly. But as guilty pleasures go, it’s somewhat watchable.

The Master of Disguise (2002)

Rotten Tomatoes: 2%

Actors: Dana Carvey, Brent Spiner, Jennifer Esposito, Harold Gould, James Brolin, Edie McClurg, Jessica Simpson, Bo Derek, Jesse Ventura

Director: Perry Andelin Blake/Writers: Dana Carvey and Harris Goldberg

Up until Bucky Larson: Born to be a Star, this was the worst reviewed film that Adam Sandler ever produced. Starring fellow SNL alumni Dana Carvey and his many, many impressions, this film came off to most as incredibly annoying. I can certainly see why, but again this is one of those films that I grew up watching and I have certain nostalgia for. People that I grew up with remember most fondly the Turtle Guy as the most popular of the characters that Carvey portrayed. He was ridiculous, but simple. Not to mention, “This is what you’re doing. This is what I want you to do,” is still pretty funny. I assume the “Star Trek: The Next Generation” checks stopped coming for Brent Spiner, as he’s forced to play a habitually farting villain, which gets old extremely fast. It’s clearly not for everyone, but if you want/need something to entertain kids, it will do the job.

The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle (2000)

Rotten Tomatoes: 43%

Actors: Robert De Niro, Jason Alexander, Rene Russo, Piper Perabo, Randy Quaid, June Foray, Keith Scott, Janeane Garofalo, Carl Reiner, Jonathan Winters, John Goodman, Kenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell, James Rebhorn, David Alan Grier, Whoopi Goldberg, Billy Crystal, Taraji P. Henson

Director: Des McAnuff/Writer: Kenneth Lonergan

You might notice that in the original “Rocky & Bullwinkle” cartoon series, Rocky & Bullwinkle only have like 10 minutes of screen time. The rest of the show was divided up into other segments like “Peabody’s Improbable History”, “Dudley Do-Right” and “Fractured Fairy Tales”. However, these episodes were treated like old-time serials. One episode would start where the other one ended; which meant anyone watching a random episode for the first time would most likely be lost, as were the audiences of Rocky & Bullwinkle. It’s clear the filmmakers wanted this film to be as successful as Who Framed Roger Rabbit, even going so far as to reference it in dialogue. I gotta give them credit for casting June Foray to reprise her role as the voice of Rocky and giving famous impersonator Keith Scott the double role of Bullwinkle/the Narrator, but not so much for getting De Niro, Alexander and Russo who don’t do much service to their animated counterparts. The oddest thing I can mention about this movie is that is the feature film debut of Oscar-winner Taraji P. Henson (Hustle & Flow, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Karate Kid) Still, it’s pretty harmless and there are enough jokes for kids as well as adults to warrant a watch.

King Ralph (1991)

Rotten Tomatoes: 20%

Actors: John Goodman, Peter O’Toole, John Hurt

Director/Writer: David S. Ward

This was another film I questioned putting on the list. Sure, not a lot of the critics liked it, but it doesn’t get much hate. As many English scholars will tell you, it’s quite impossible that in the event of the royal family being wiped out that a man, regardless of whether or not he’s an American, could rise to the ranks of King of England. Still, for the first twenty-five minutes, it’s a great wish-fulfillment story. Then it has to get ruined by a half-baked romance that ends up being boring. Still, Peter O’Toole and John Hurt do well in their respective roles. But it’s safe to say that John Goodman has certainly gotten better roles (mostly thanks to the Coens). Other than that, it’s still a mostly inoffensive movie (outside of a terrible Burger King gag midway through).

My Favorite Martian (1999)

Rotten Tomatoes: 12%

Actors: Jeff Daniels, Christopher Lloyd, Daryl Hannah, Elizabeth Hurley, Wallace Shawn, Ray Walston

Director: Donald Petrie/Writer: John L. Greene, Sherri Stoner and Deanna Oliver

I’d like to know who at Disney thought an old show like “My Favorite Martian” would make it in the ‘90s, but looking at today’s film marketplace, one could easily say they were ahead of their time. Christopher Lloyd outweirds himself in this film (think Doc Brown mixed with Judge Doom times twenty) as the alien dubbed “Uncle Martin” who literally crashes with Jeff Daniels’ reporter character Tim O’Hara. O’Hara thinks he’s stumbled upon the story of a lifetime until he learns that Martin’s spacecraft has to be re-launched into space or else it could self-destruct and destroy the Earth. Like in Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle, I gotta give credit to Disney for hiring Ray Walston (the original “Uncle Martin”) in a cameo role. How weird does this movie get? There’s a scene in the movie where Martin and Tim are being chased by the government so Martin shrinks the car they’re in to escape into the sewers. They wind up in this big, fat redneck’s toilet. As they cower in fear, Tim demands that Martin enlarges them immediately. The car drives straight through the toilet into the next wall with the fat redneck on the hood. There are no words; you just have to see it to believe it.

RocketMan (1997)

Rotten Tomatoes: 24%

Actors: Harland Williams, Jessica Lundy, William Sadler, Jeffrey DeMunn, James Pickens Jr. and Beau Bridges

Director: Stuart Gillard/Writers: Oren Aviv, Craig Mazin and Greg Erb

This is the movie on the list that I am probably most ashamed of. I hate to use this word, but the only real way to describe this movie is retarded. I’m sorry, I really am, but once you see this movie you’ll see what I mean. The movie starts with a little boy pretending to be an astronaut, which is completely normal. What isn’t normal is that he’s inside a dryer. The dryer suddenly comes on and the little boy starts spinning around inside it. However, it stops and the little boy pops out without any injuries and a big toothy smile. If that sounds completely implausible to you, stop watching. The movie fast-forwards a few decades later to NASA planning their first manned mission to Mars. However, the crew starts complaining about their supposedly faulty software, which was created by -- you guessed it -- that grown-up version of the little boy named Fred Randall. However, “grown-up” would be a huge compliment to the guy; he truly never grew up and still behaves like a 7-year-old and somehow got a job designing software for NASA. When the team confronts him, Fred demonstrates that the software isn’t faulty, it’s just that the computer engineer, Gary, operating it was mistaken. In trying to prove that Fred is full of crap, Gary tries to replicate Fred’s demonstration and ends up getting himself vastly injured. This leaves the Mars team without a computer programmer for their mission. Well, we all know where this is headed don’t we? Fred is instituted into the NASA training program. He manages to bungle up all the training exercises but somehow miraculously passes. I’d like to mention one in particular: Fred is being tested to see how many G’s he can pull. They put him in a pod and start spinning him around at a very quick rate. Fred does get to the minimum point of G’s but starts playfully screaming that he wants the pod to go faster. The commander of the Mars mission, a guy who really doesn’t like Fred, gets the pod to go as fast as it can possibly go. What eventually happens is that Fred flies off in his chair out of the room. He crashes into a hallway filled with nuns and their students and continues out the door. Gary is shown in a wheelchair (which is odd enough because the movie just showed him getting smacked in the head and he’s in a wheelchair) and suddenly Fred busts through the wall and runs straight into Gary sending him and his wheelchair into triple backflips (I wish I was making this up). Why do I like this movie? It’s just a simple movie I watched when I was a kid and I got hooked on it. For all it’s dumb, childish antics, it’s still somewhat lovable. To me, this is the definitive guilty pleasure. Lock me up and throw away the key.

First Movie Posters Revealed for MIRROR MIRROR

Unfortunately the Tasem Singh directed Snow White film Mirror Mirror looks like crap. At least that's my opinion, maybe there are some of you out there that actually think the movie looks good, but for me it just comes off as being rushed and cheap. I've seen better fantasy films on the SyFy channel. If you haven't seen the trailer for the movie yet, check it out below so you can see for yourself.

Relativity Media has released these two first poster for the film, that really don't do anything for me. There is nothing cool about them. They were basically created to sell the fact that Julia Roberts is the films' star. But, I'm not sure how much star power Roberts even has anymore these days. I've always liked watching Roberts in her films, but it seems like her star is beginning to fade as well. This film just doesn't look good, and I don't think it's going to help her acting career.

The movie stars Lily Collins (The Blind Side) as an exiled princess who enlists the help of seven resourceful rebels to win back her birthright and Oscar-winner Julia Roberts as an evil Queen who steals control of a kingdom, in a magical adventure comedy filled with jealousy, romance, and betrayal that will capture the imagination of audiences the world over. The film also stars Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as the object of their affection, Prince Andrew Alcott, and Nathan Lane (The Birdcage) as the hapless and bungling servant to the Queen.

Rounding out the cast are Robert EmmsMare WinninghamMichael LernerMark PovinelliJordan PrenticeDanny WoodburnSebastian SaracenoRonald Lee ClarkMartin KlebbaJoey Gnoffo, and Sean Bean

The film is set to hit theaters on March 16th 2012.

Walt Disney Announces 2013 Holiday Animated Movie FROZEN

Disney has officially announced their new 2013 animated feature holiday film Frozen, which was previously titled The Snow Queen. Apparently when Frozen was first announced today the trades thought it was the title of a new film Pixar is developing about Dinosaurs which is currently called The Untitled Pixar Movie About Dinosaurs. That is not the case though.

The movie will be a CG animated film, and it will be released in 3D. This story is something Disney has been trying to get off the ground for some time now. Frozen will be a big screen adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson’s story The Snow Queen. This report was confirmed by Bleeding Cool

The original story follows Gerda and Kay who are the best of friends. "They live across an alley from each other and happily chat, play, and tend their lovely rose garden. The children are happy until tragedy strikes Kay. His eye and heart are pierced with fragments of a mirror, and the loving boy Gerda knew vanishes. The Snow Queen has put him under her spell and taken him to her palace of snow and ice. It is up to Gerda to find him and bring him home to the love that awaits him."

The movie is scheduled for November 27th 2013, which will push Pixar's Dinosaur movie into another date. The image you see above is actually some very early concept art for the film. This is a great story that should make for a great film. What are your thoughts on it?

GOON - Seann William Scott Swears a Lot in This NSFW Clip

Here is a new NSFW clip from the hockey comedy Goon, which is directed Michael Dowse. The film stars Seann William Scott, Jay Baruchel, Liev Schreiber, Alison Pill, Kim Coates, Eugene Levy, and Marc-André Grondin. I think this looks hilarious, and am looking forward to seeing this in theaters.

I loved Slap Shot, another raunchy hockey comedy starring Paul Newman. Whenever I see clips or trailers for this movie, I can't help but think of that.

Here is a description of the film:

Goon [goon]

Noun

1.    A hired hoodlum or thug

2.    A stupid, foolish or awkward person

Meet Doug Glatt (Seann William Scott).

He may not be the sharpest blade on the rink, but he’s got a killer right hook.

When his permanently wasted best friend Pat (Jay Baruchel) runs into trouble, Doug’s ability to beat the crap out of everyone and everything impresses a sports coach who signs him up to annihilate the opposition and a feisty female fan (Alison Pill) who digs dangerous sports

Sometimes it takes an unlikely hero to unite a team and soon Doug finds himself recruited by the flailing Halifax Highlanders, who desperately need a goon to protect screwed up ex-star player, La Flamme. In between packing punches and breaking bones, the team bond and find their place in the big league.

But when Doug comes fist to face with notoriously violent pro player Rhea (Liev Schreiber) who is hell bent on putting on a show for his retirement fight, the gloves are well and truly off….

From the creators of Superbad and Pineapple Express comes an ice cool comedy that proves that it’s not the winning, it’s the taking apart of the other team that counts.
